Review Speights Ale House - Invercargill

5 stars all the way for food, service and atmosphere. Invercargill might not offer much to some, but to us it's a great little spot. We were in town to look at the motorcycle museums which didn't disappoint us! We stayed at The Langlands across the road and this looked a good option for a feed. Walking in on the ground floor was a mix of bar and seating for dinner with upstairs being a mezzanine floor with more seating for dinner. Their choice of local beer covered most and trying a few I was impressed! I got the Stag main while partner got the seafood bowl, she was said it was amazing with the mix of seafood and sauce that had her saying 'wow' every bite! My vension...well, I'd have say it was cooked perfectly that if I used a spoon as a knife it still would have sliced through it. Will we be back next year, yes on our yearly travels we will be back. Give out thanks to the chef and kitchen staff for food that will have us coming back. Thanks guys!

Taste very good and the service was great — polite but very personal and friendly.

Never disappointed when we take visitors to the South here for an ale or two and a meal. The food is always perfect and the staff super friendly and welcoming! Even better when you get the table in front of the fire on a blustery, wet southern day!

Nothing to fault hence 5 stars. From the easy online booking system and email confirmation, to Tony's service and easy going demeanour to the great food, dinks and atmosphere for a mid Sat afternoon I just wish we lived locally so we could do it more often.

Awesome kid-friendly dining option! Kids were happily occupied with their colouring and sticker sets and kids' meals. Food was lovely and portion is generous!

Food and beverages were excellent. Staff friendly and mostly attentive. Had one staff member clear some of our dishes while talking on her mobile which I thought was wrong, particularly as I wished to ask her something and she didn't notice me trying to catch her eye. Atmosphere was good too. It was unfortunate that the smoke from smokers outside was filtering under the window where we sat. All in all, a great choice for our anniversary dinner out.

Nice and warm atmosphere. Can't argue with the drinks. Reasonably priced food and hearty portions. The food we ordered were ok. Would have been better if the pork belly skin was crispy enough to eat...unless it was really meant to be just a decoration. Overall it's great place to gave dinner especially if just visiting Invercargill.

The best steaks I've had outside of America! Fantastic, friendly staff and the beer was great.... what more do you need in life! Big thank you to the team for hubbies birthday cheesecake too.

Cannot speak highly enough of the service we received and the delicious food. Great price too!

Great food plenty to eat Great service. Didn't wait long for meal. Only thing that let it down was the Southland Stags rugby team blocking the way out . We had to dip and dive zig and zag past other people just to get out..

We walked in here at 9pm expecting to be given the menu for bar snacks but we were seated and given the full menu. We ordered the the ribs and pork belly. Both were very generous servings and full of flavour, coupled wonderful southern service and good beer would dine here again!

Depends on the night you go and, how late you wanna stay out. But for a family bar meal, (yes) party on a Friday night (yes) if there is a band. Service is the best, treat them well they will look after you.

My husband and I had dinner here. Very pleasant place , quite trendy. There was a guy and a young dark haired girl working when we arrived and they were both lovely and friendly and warm. Made us feel welcome. We both ordered the roast pork and it did not disappoint, the service was very efficient, we waited less than 20 minutes. We left feeling very satisfied. Well done!

Brilliant place. Service was spot on. So many great choices on the menu that you'll need to visit more than a few times. Plenty of seating up stairs and they can cater for larger groups. Pays to book ahead during busier times .

We normally visit Speights ale house if we find one in the areas we visit. Love ultra low carb beer with their food. Nice atmosphere with great hospitality from the waitresses.

No other pub I'd wanna be at . Great vibes best beer on tap!! Heavenly

Good value, warm welcome and excellent service. If you like Speights, then there's a good selection of beers along with wines, spirits and soft drinks. Impressive fireplace and lovely historical photos that are worth searching out. Toilets are clean. The fries to share is huge and the chicken caesar salad is very good. Definitely worth a visit especially if you are on a budget.

Food was great and staff were fabulous especially the guy who remembered everything perfectly without writing it down!!!

Went out for a meal tonight with a large group for my partners 30th and was just amazed at their service everyone was was outstanding in particular a young guy who was our main waiter he had such good people skills and was so nice. The meals were perfect we had all bar 2 served at the same time and had apologies for the other 2 that the waiters weren't happy with sizing so ordered more to be cooked, and they were only a few minutes behind the rest. Brought in our own cake and they plated it nicely and put candles on it for us and even sang along with the happy birthday. I cannot fault a single thing and am so happy i picked here for our meal would definitely say it's the best service from any restaurant I've ever been to. I cannot thank everyone who made our experience so wonderful enough!!!

Went for a meal last night and was pretty disappointed! My son ordered the children's waffles- I've never seen waffles so overcooked! They were black the entire way through. We asked for new waffles which in all fairness were beautifully cooked- and they didn't charge us for the meal. Disappointing that they saw it as acceptable to even present the meal like that though. I ordered the chicken entree. Out of about 6 chicken dishes it was the only one that didn't contain bacon. Why must nearly every chicken meal contain bacon? 2/4 meals at our table were of decent standard. Hopefully next time we come back it will have improved- we were told the chefs were "frazzled" which we thought was an unusual comment when over half the tables were empty.

The seafood chowder was wonderful and the staff very attentive and super friendly- thank you 😊 the only down side I could say was the music 🎶 a bit outdated and loud but a great venue

Went in for lunch it was relatively quiet. Ordered our meals, boyfriend was unhappy with meal (the menu didn't properly portray was he was ordering - the salmon) I told him to stop eating it or we'd have to pay for it. Told the waitress whom wasn't as helpful as she could have been. He didn't want to wait further for another dish, so he left and I ate quickly then was partially charged for his the meal anyway (she didn't say how much) on the grounds that he didn't like it wasn't a good enough reason. I was too tired to argue the point. The second waitress at the bar was incredibly rude.

Awesome place! The staff are the best and it really goes off on nights when they have a band on! Deffo will be back one day

Just an acknowledgement would be great if you pass a message onto the chef. Pan fried Fish tasted like ammonia. Battered was fine. Service was � great!

There as a work function, had a buffet meal, was really looking forward to it! Not very impressed, chewy meat, three potatoe dishes, a lettuce salad that I could of made, the chicken was tasty but everything else was very bland. Service and atmospherie was good

Absolutely loved the seafood chowder and it was big enough for us to share, it was awesome. I've raved about it so much that two groups of my friends have gone in to also have it and they agree �

We just got back from the Bluff Oyster Fest and thirsty, but experinced the worse customer service.. a young girl with the listening skills of a brick and knowledge to match managed to serve our drinks in the same time it takes to get a meal in a Macdonalds drive thru... then had the cheek to be sarcastic whilst serving our drinks Will be advising my friends and family to avoid this place... but head to Oshea's

Quiet meal by myself on a work trip and the staff were awesome! Food was great too�

Absolutely great evening....and last nights waiter Ben was awesome....will always continue to go back to the Ale House...always a great feed...and great beer...and great atmosphere

After waiting 90 minutes for my lunch was hoping it would be nice ordered a pretty basic meal oysters fries and eggs yolks off eggs were broken during cooking so no nice yolks fries and eggs were both stone cold only positive oysters were hot didn't send it back because I didn't have another 90 minutes to spare while I waited on replacement no surprises the waitress didn't ask if I enjoyed my meal! ! I am a taxi driver no prizes for guessing where I WON'T be recommending people to eat

Had a booking but didn't get seated for nearly 30 minutes later. Told meals would take awhile, would we like to order bread while we waited. 20mins later bread still hadn't arrived. Meals finally served nearly 1.5 hours after arrival.

Speights Ale house is just great,the staff are just great too very friendly keep up the great work guy's n girl's we will be back �
