Review Goldensilk Thai Restaurant - Kumeu

Food was delicious. The curry was good but not my favorite the pumpkin was a bit undercooked and too watery for my liking and coconut flavor was too strong. This is my personal opinion but if you love coconut and soupy curry this one would be for you. Chicken strips was okay. The Pad Thai was the best. Would probably visit again yo try their other dishes.

The meals are great and reasonably full too. We got takeaway food for the family, which worked out well. The containers were much fuller than some we got previously from another Thai just down the road ! Generally, it is a great feed for an OK price. It's a little pricey, but what isn't these days.

Golden Silk Thai is a special place where very good food can be found. I am not unfamiliar with Golden Silk as the family have been getting take aways there for years. They provide a very authentic menu and is well worth spending time in the restaurant too as some of the best dishes are only served in the restaurant. Highly recommended

Great service, all the waitresses were very attentive and helpful. Food was fairly priced and we had leftovers to takeaway. Everything was tasty! Would definitely recommend

One of the best Thai restaurants we’ve been too. We thoroughly enjoyed every bite. Even our fussy 5 year old managed to eat all his dinner. Will definitely be visiting again & highly recommend. Compliments to the chef 💯 👨‍🍳 & staff for excelling in their services 👍😁

I truly believe you can tell a restaurant is good by how customer friendly their staff are. Of course the food is delicious here but I was blown away by how amazing the staff was on a quiet Christmas Eve night. As soon as you walk in, you are greeted in Thai and promptly seated. They notice when your glass is empty and fill it up without you having to ask. I was clumsy enough to knock a glass over and shatter it everywhere. (I was choking on water because a friend made me laugh too hard. I even made the table behind us leave. To be fair we were being rather rowdy and I guess they had enough lol. Apologies.) But again, they noticed immediately, promptly re-seated us and sweeped everything up. And to top it off, they gave us a little parting gift! People of Auckland, you need to come here just for the staff! They humour you, they notice you and they are so so welcoming. And they give you presents! This is a bf material restaurant #justsaying 💯💯. Also I'm so sorry for shattering your glass!!

Food and service was fine, just the atmosphere was a bit lacking. Maybe that was because few were dining in but had a constant stream of takeaway customers coming in and out at the front of house.

One of the worst meals I've ever had. The mixed starter was ok.i ordered the Royale fried rice with crab meat and prawns for main. The rice was stuck in clumps, overcooked and dry. Everything was tasteless. Totally bland, and not worth the money I wasted. Won't be going back

Really felt like having some Thai for dinner. Ordered from here as it was local and has online ordering. <br/><br/>Chicken Curry puffs had no chicken in it, was just filled with a sweet curry purée. Chicken pad Thai was very eggy. Not sure if I’ll be back :(

I usually go to Golden Silk when I feel like having Thai food locally , it’s not really authentic but it’s nice. Friendly service and doesn’t normally take long for the food to get to the table. Nice presentation and flavours

Would rate 0 if I could. Been going to this restaurant for many years, and had never been so disappointed until tonight. We suspected they changed chefs, as my "curry" was a watery mess (more like water) and the vegetables were so overcooked they fell apart. Everyone else's meals was just as disappointing. When asked how our food was, we told them the honest truth and suggested to give the feedback to the chef. The Manager offered to take 10% off ONE meal - so insulting, as we didn't even finish the meals, so we asked to talk to the owner, who conveniently disappeared out back of the restaurant for ages I suspect she was avoiding us. The Manager wouldn't budge when we mentioned we shouldn't have to pay for such a terrible meal until we had put our foot down. So so extremely disappointed as this was our local go-to - NOT ANYMORE. Such a bad experience but it was especially the way they handled it really was insulting.

Stopped by for some lunch and ordered the classic Pad Thai, Green Thai curry with a side of spring rolls and curry puff pastry and a beef fried rice noodle dish with spring rolls. <br/><br/>Everything was served beautifully and all dishes were served hot and not just warm, which was a definite plus for me!<br/><br/>The spring rolls were a delicious compliment to the curry and the rice noodles however I wish they would have that as a side for the pad thai also. The flavouring on the pad thai was quite strong where I would normally prefer something lighter and less intense on flavour. <br/><br/>The place was cozy and quiet as this place is located on the outskirts of Auckland but the staff was friendly and attentive!<br/> <br/><br/>Food 7/10<br/>Service 7/10<br/>Ambience 6.5/10<br/>Price 6.5/10

Friendly service but food is way overpriced. I'm a Thai national by descent and sorry to say food is definitely not authentic Thai :( The "world famous'' hot and spicy Tom Yum soup on the menu taste more like ones made out of the bottled paste one can purchase in grocery shop and the peanut fried rice was all soggy. Pad Thai noodles was a little too soggy was well and again tasted like bottled paste ingredients. The three dish plus a glass of wine cost $72 ! Sorry friendly staff... food let you guys down. Local guides will of course grade it 4 stars .. go try for yourself :)

Went for lunch on Saturday. It was very quiet and only one other group there. Very friendly staff and service was good. We ordered pad Thai and chicken satay. Loved the nutty sauce. Satay dish was very simple but tasty. Would love to go back for lunch again.

I wrote down my order/numbers from the menu on zomato but when I rang the lady I talked to had no idea what I was talking about. Not very happy as I was ordering for a large group. Their menu should be the same as the one on zomato or what's the point in having the menu on there at all? Absolute waste of my time will not be going there again.

Amazing place. We had a grabone voucher, and got a main meal with sides, drink and a soup. Don't undermine the soup, the most amazing tomyum soup I ever had! Great customer service as well, both by the person serving and the chef, who came to serve the mains.

We dropped by for a quick dinner coming from tree adventure. The place was elegant but the foods were quite pricey. I had pad Thai chicken and a banana ice cream dessert. The taste were okay but nothing special.

what a lovely find. The best Thai food that I have ever had. Lovely clean place with very friendly staff. Quick in taking our orders and delivered our food to our table in a timely manner. I would recommend this place to any lover of authentic Thai food

Been here quite a few times, seems quite popular. Tried many of the dishes and can't complain about any of it. Takeaways are easy to order and ready when they said it would be.

Went here for lunch 30/12/15 as a random place due to other local Cafes being closed over Xmas/New Years. It was very simple, I enjoyed my red chicken curry, maybe a bit more spice needed for medium. Hubby liked his crispy chicken. Fast service, cheap and nice if you want a quick Thai meal. Nothing flash and not the best Thai I've had but would go back.

Been here many many time for multiple birthdays. I've tried a lot of the dishes and perfected my ordering, every time i get the yellow curry or the chicken cashew dish. A lot of the other dishes aren't on the same par and flavour as those two. The chips and chicken tenders are amazing as well. The service is always lovely, but the food can sometimes be inconsisten,t as you could one day and the food will be delicious and a month later it doesn't have the same beautiful taste.

This place has won so many awards for its authentic Thai cuisine. In fact we have celebrated so many times here for our family and friends wedding anniversaries over the past few years and the quality of the food and service never change. My picks for the entree are the money bags, for the main - pad med with succulent prawns. My hubby always loves a red curry with pork or beef. However he would rather rather duck but this is not an option. The decor is appropriately thai and the staff are traditional dressed in thai outfits. Must try!

Good restaurant! Always delicious food and made to what I would call a great Thai standard!!! If you ask for hot you get hot if you get mild etc you get mild so great!! :) the staff are friendly which is always an added bonus. Lastly however I do feel that compared to other Thai restaurants it is a little on the pricey side.

I've been to a few Thai restaurants in Auckland, but this one is (so far) my favourite. From the friendly, attentive service to the food, I can't find fault in any of it. My girlfriend and I went on a Monday for dinner and ordered the King Prawn Spring Rolls (so tasty), a peanut-based curry and a "surf 'n turf" stir fry from their special menu. The presentation was good, but more importantly, the flavours were excellent. What made it more impressive was how the total cost remained under $60. For such a classy-looking restaurant, they're extremely good value for money.

This is the second time i have been to the Golden Silk Thai and certainly will not be the last. The service is prompt and friendly. The food is good and the atmosphere is relaxing and quant.

I always enjoy eating here, lovely food, cooked well. I recommend the curries, all are perfect especially the yellow curry. The Tom Yum soup is delicious. Always great service and value for money.

My husband suggested we go to Golden Silk in Kumeu for our Fathers Day dinner after he had a very good experience when he dined there a couple of years ago.  This restaurant must be under new management from the time that he dined there last because everything was totally different...in a bad way.  The quality and quantity of entrees were shocking! We ordered crispy chicken tenderloins and buffalo wings.  What we got was about 6 pieces of skinny crusty chicken strips which were the size of french fries (this was chicken tenderloins) and the buffalo wings were just boiled pieces of chicken nibbles cooked hurriedly in some soy sauce and totally lacking in flavor and seasoning.  The mains that we ordered were no better. The garlic and pepper chicken that I ordered was bland, I only ate the vegetables from it because the chicken was totally disgusting! It was boiled chicken pieces that looked to be mixed with the veges and gravy for a few minutes.  When I ate the chicken, the stench of boiled chicken was overpowering.  I would suggest to Golden Silk to cook their chicken while cooking the actual dish as the boiled chicken does not absorb the flavors and seasoning of the dish.  Also they have different quantity sizes of the same dish if you order chicken or lamb.  My hubby and his sister ordered sizzling lamb and chicken (he paid extra for the lamb one) but when the food came out, the size of the lamb sizzler was tiny compared to the chicken one.  We were all disappointed that the quality and taste of food at this establishment has gone really downhill since we came here last.  Would definitely NEVER dine here again!!!

Has been a while since I've had food from Golden Silk but felt absolutely ripped off. $40 for 3 dishes for takeaways. Mixed entree consisted of the driest smallest piece of satay chicken, miniature spring roll, curry puff -ok, money bag ok. Red curry dish was tasty but not cooked fresh and a beef fried rice. Description of fried rice was with cashews and vegetables. I'd just like to point out the veges in this dish included onion and a few peas carrots and corn (like the frozen chopped type) approx 5 cashew nuts and the rice was decidedly average. Won't be back to Golden Silk...sorry guys your meals have gone down hill big time!

I was really disappointed with my takeaway meal. I placed a telephone order for a green curry (chicken) for my lunch - I went down an picked it up. When I got home and sat down to eat my meal I was very disapointed in the quality of the chicken that was used - it was very dark meat and looked perhaps to be thigh meat. I am totally addicted to Thai green curry and have never had such low quality meat in it. <br/>I will not be going back - it's far too expensive for the quality of food.<br/><br/>******UPDATE***********<br/>After the last experience I decided to give them another chance - this time I dined in and it was a fantastic experience - I chose the same meal and it was delicious!!<br/>

Always ALWAYS delicious!! the food is so tasty consistently! I would eat here every night if I could! We often order a variety of dishes and they are better than expected, and well priced for the quality. When we eat in, food is always served so quickly!! :) highly recommended.

Really enjoyed the new lunch menu - so cheap and tasty! A great alternative to a dinner date. The decor is stunning too. The place has a lovely ambience. The service was super quick when we went. Very impressed! Overall a great dining experience and a Thai gem in Kumeu.

Had not been in for dinner for a while and have eaten here tons so although not expecting 5 star we did expect the same service and quality of food we have come to take for granted over the last 7 years. We got that wrong. the menu taks about a nice calamari entree - cant remember the exact wording - in any case a handfull of crumbed squid rings was along way off. My duck main was really yummy except is was very mild - like no heat but the menu said medium - previous experience has taught medium is still pretty hot and dont eat the whole chillis. I think one of the staff has taken the place over and toned it down? Worst thing was that our table was sticky which is pretty yuck. i watched a member of staff wipe the mats and table next door. 1. They dont wash the mats just wipe them half assed I also checked the table after and it was stuicky as well. I told the manager about our experience but there was only a half ass apology and I got that distinct impression that as she was nodding yes she was thinking yea what ever. There is another thai place in huapai so im going to go there from now on.

Went there on Saturday with my family, the place was very busy but the waiting staff was at the door to greet us. We were seated very quickly and given water. We ordered the banquet for 4, the starter came out within 5 minutes, it was piping hot and scrumptious! the mains were amazing, they have this egg net with prawns and pork, it was divine. The night was enjoyable and the waiting staff were attentive but not intrusive, it was a very pleasant and enjoyable evening.

Went there for a birthday dinner, food was 10/10, great. As for the lady in purple who waited our table, she was very inpersonal, rude and we just felt she wanted us to leave. Although we'd taken our own beverages we felt as though we were not welcome as we even had to ask for water!<br/>We would certainly recommend this restaurant for food but if you take your own alochol you will not get personal service as they certainly made you aware that they are not making money out of the beverage side of their business. We also certainly did not appreciate being watched in a bored manner while we finished our meal.

Visited restaurant tonight after 18 months. 3 hours for 3 courses. Food ok but service very poor. I had to ask for table to be cleared as nobody seemed bothered. <br/>Not what I remembered from Golden Silk and very disappointing.

I went there last night after reading the fantastic reviews. I was very disappointed. I had the prawn,pork and sweetcorn baskets. They were filled with frozen peas and carrots and very Little of the filling advertised on the menu. The twice cooked Duck sounded fantastic on the menu. The sauce was very bitter and the duck was dry. The service was very poor, the tables were not cleared away and we sat for ages with dirty plates on the table waiting for the waitress to take our order. The only saving grace was the banana split, I decided not to try anything unknown as the starter and mains had been so poor. I did tell the waitress on the way out when asked "did I enjoy my meal" that it wasn't the best I had had but just got brushed off. No I wont be going there again even though it is just around the corner.

thinking of where to have a good meal last night. One of our friend said drive to West Ak and try this authentic <br/>Thai from Golden Silk. All we can say after our meal is we will definitely be back. My juicy big prawns is so yummy!!!

This is a fabulous restaurant, unlike any other Thai restaurant I have been to. From the moment you walk in you feel welcomed and the ambiance is impressive. A bit noisy but in an exciting kind of way. The service is prompt and efficient and the food is out of this world. For an entree I tried their spring roll, a test of a good Thai restaurant is their spring roll, then I had the twice cooked duck, mama mia it was delicious. I have been back 3 times since then. The price is very reasonable, did I mention the portion (generous)

We were invited to go there with some friends that dine there as frequently as they can. And we enjoyed our experience so much that we now go there as often as we can and we live out in East Auck. So that must give you an idea of how fabulous it is.

LOVE this place, always! Super impressed with service and consistency. A little pricey, but the yellow curry is worth it.
