Review Dark Sky Diner - Lake Tekapo

My partner and I enjoyed our experience here. Apparently the pork ribs were 5/5, super tender and good portion size. I had the vegan pasta dish which had beautiful real flavours...not too salty which was nice. The vegan pizza starter was also super tasty. A bit of a wait on the main meals but not too bad and worth the wait. Would definitely dine again.

Honestly speaking, we didn't have much choices for restaurant while visiting such a small town. We're lucky to come across Dark Sky Diner. They don't have too many menus but that what kept their food in such goof quality. The beef was really tender and the appetizer was already quite filling for me. The organic ice-cream was really nice and yummy.

Came to check this out Sept 16 late afternoon with a plan of booking us for dinner later at night. Beautiful location, great atmosphere and the coffee was so good. I would like to give a five star but one of the lady staff kept yelling on people everytime they tried to seat on the other side of the restaurant. Could've handled better but boy oh boy, she was so rude, very unprofessional when she speaks to customers. I wasn't surprised customers were in and out. We didn't end up having dinner here as it wasn't a good customer service experience.

First time in this relatively new restaurant and we enjoyed so much that we decided to dine the next evening as well. The lamb rack was marvellously cooked. Our group was served by Lucia and she was very professional and made sure everything was in order. Highly recommended restaurant in Lake Tekapo!

Title: Culinary Delight at Dark Sky Diner - Lake Tekapo's Finest! Dark Sky Diner in Lake Tekapo offers an amazing dining experience that stands out! The atmosphere is delightful, and the menu is a culinary journey. We indulged in the Grilled Salmon, Tomahawk Steak, and BBQ Pork Rib - each dish was a burst of flavors that surpassed expectations. The taste and quality exceeded many other places in the South Island of New Zealand. Dark Sky Diner is a gem in Lake Tekapo, providing not just a meal but a five-star culinary adventure. Highly recommended for those seeking a dining experience that goes beyond the ordinary!

Had a wonderful dinner here on our first night in Lake Tekapo. Unfortunately the rainy/cloudy weather obscured our views of the beautiful mountains somewhat but did not dampen our experience at all. The food was delicious and generously portioned. The South American dessert crepe was amazing! The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. A must visit for anyone staying in Lake Tekapo.

We always enjoy dining at Dark Sky Diner when we stop at Tekapo for a stretch.. Food is amazing, service is great with the view of the lake and the snow capped mountains, a wonderful place to experience.. Also try the dark sky experience tour, it is a 45mins tour, family friendly, indoor and mind blowing.

We came by for dinner when we were in Tekapo on a Monday evening. They were quite busy and we did have to book to secure a table. The restaurant is located inside the Dark Sky Project building. Once inside, the diner is located by the windows on the far end. There is a waiting area where you wait to be seated. The menu has quite a few interesting items and they seemed to have a South American flavour to them. Interestingly, the three-course menu is only available when you pre-book as a group. We ended up just making our own three-course meal. I had the lakefront cocktail and that was quite nice with the coconut and pineapple. We started with the empanadas. There were 2 empanadas of the three different flavours they had. I quite liked the sweet corn and cheese one but they were all quite nice. I had the tomahawk steak as a main and it was decently sized and cooked really well. The steak came on its own platter with a really tasty salsa and chimichurri. It came with mash and a salad on the side. I also got to try the BBQ ribs and they had a nice flavour and they were quite tender. I got the panqueque as a dessert and I really liked it. Tasty dulce de leche rolled inside a pancake that was bruleed. It was a nice place to grab a tasty dinner. Service was quite good considering they were really busy and there wasn't very much staff. The area did die down around 2000. The food was tasty and it was something a bit different.

Food was overall good. We had the pasta of the week, creamy mushroom and spinach fettuccine and the salmon. The meals were tasty. If doing the tour, definitely give yourself a 2 hour time frame to eat since the service was a bit slower than expected.

They were understaffed when we visited but you wouldn't have known given the amazing service. The food although pricey, it is a tourist town, is very delicious and the portions are on point. It pays to book in advance. We will be back :)

Brilliant food, brilliant service, struggled to not give 5 stars, but not perfect. If i could give 4 and a half stars i would. Started with pizza bread, awesome. Mains i got ribs, ive never had ribs as tender, i was going to ask for a meat knife but did not need it, stunning ribs, only thing i didnt enjoy was ribs were rested on the chips and turned chips into mush .... thats why not a 5 star. My wife got vegetarian canaloni and loved it. Desert i got crepe, amazing, could not fault, wife got quince and cheese tart, she said very unusual but very nice. Highly recommend.

Dark Sky Dinner was a very wonderful place to experience! First of all the view is amazing! The atmosphere is not like your usual dinner, it was more modern yet rustic. Secondly the staff are incredible! The wait staff are super kind, accommodating and quick! You can see the chefs from wherever you sit and they work like a phenomenal team. Now onto the part you are here for, the food! It was wonderful! I had Milanesa de Pollo Plain (breaded chicken) and it was super crispy and juicy with the perfect amount of seasoning. The fries were thin cut but crispy and fluffy with the perfect amount of salt and the salad was a nice cut to the richness of the chicken. Super delicious! Some say it is a bit pricey but for the quality, it was well worth it! I would come back for sure!
