Review Doughboys Bakery And Cafe - Lake Tekapo

Who would have thought a cafe could pull off selling rice noodles? But surprise, they nailed it! You might raise an eyebrow at the 24.99 price tag, but trust me, it’s like a flavor explosion in your mouth. The pork? Tender enough to make you question if they’ve been training pigs in martial arts. And the food? Faster than a ninja – 10 minutes, you’re in rice noodle paradise! This spot is Lake Tekapo’s best-kept secret. Everyone needs to experience this flavour fiesta. Next on my hit list? Braised Beef Rice Noodles in Soup. The chef’s rice noodle sorcery is real - who knew rice noodles could be this enchanting.

Great food! Needed a refuel after a hike and the noodle soup dishes really hit the spot. Braised beef and pork belly were both really good and hearty. Portion sizes were decent too

Awesome, can't resist the smell of beef noodle from outside so I had to come in😭😭. Ordered A1 (braised beef rice noodle soup) as recommended by their staff. The broth is nice and flavourful and portion of beef is generous. Paid 24$ for the noodle but portion is good. Will recommend dropping by if you crave some Chinese noodle soup :)

I think you mean Lake Tekapo Noodle Cafe. This place is clearly under new management and is no longer a bakery cafe. The sign outside still says Doughboys but inside it’s Lake Tekapo Noodle Cafe. Naming aside, their noodles are actually pretty good, the braised beef noodles look bland but taste on point. They still have your standard takeaway shop menu of burgers and chips but they definitely specialise in noodles now.

Ordered beef and pork noodle bowl. Rice noodle tastes great while the beef/pork is a bit dry and though. Overall i would reckon a hot bowl of noodle after half day hiking~

Stop for a tea and a cake. The service was nice and helpful as well as the price was reasonable. The atmosphere was just ok, but compared to the cafe opposite there is room for improvement

This is not a cafe. It is a noodle shop. And some pretty decent noodles at that!! Definitely do not get the tomato and egg. That was a big miss. The braised beef 红烧牛肉汤 was very good. The 米粉 was better than the regular noodles

The noodles were AMAZING. We had the pork mince and the pork belly and both were authentic and fantastic. Staff were super friendly too! If you’re bored of your campervan meals this is a way to treat yourself. Stock of really good pies inside too.

Noodles were sooo good (ordered the braised beef). So glad I found this place. I can't believe the line was so long next door when this place is here. The steak mushroom pie was good too! Will definitely be back!

The best place to have food. Yummy, too many varieties with nominal price range. We had Veg and chicken burgers which was more than sufficient for a person. Taste was awesome. Restaurant is Specious and staff was too humble and sweet. Totally recommended.

We had the beef braised noodles and the pork mince noodles. So so good. Definitely worth trying. One of the best noodles we had in south Island NZ. We arrived tekapo at 3.30 pm when not many restaurants are opened so this place is definitely a blessing.

The mince and cheese pie was the best I’ve had in NZ! As an Australian, I don’t eat pies at home because they’re full of gristle and fat - yuck. So every time I come to NZ, I eat as many as I can and this was hands down the best I’ve had on this 2.5 week trip. Cheese was proper cheese, and so tasty, zero fat and gristle - perfect! Service was also great and friendly. Will definitely be coming back on the next trip <3

These guys run the fish & chips shop next to it in the evenings. If you're around town looking for a quick fix for dinner, you won't regret trying them out. They serve absolutely brilliant fish & chips, and burgers, with a plethora of sides and add ons. Their burgers are really good and I'd be back just for them. I personally like the battered fish than the crumbed ones though.
