Review Jade Palace - Lake Tekapo

Was pleasantly surprised. From the outside the restaurant looks pretty dodgy but the food is actually alright. Everything is on the salty side but otherwise was decent. Our favourite was the prawn omelette and the braised eggplant.

Jade Palace Restaurant in Lake Tekapo is a true gem for authentic Chinese cuisine! 🥢 We ordered a spread including sweet and sour pork, kung pao chili chicken, tofu, and a combination vegetable dish. The flavors were spot on, capturing the essence of true Chinese cooking. Not only that, but the prices were reasonable, making it even more delightful. If you’re in Lake Tekapo and craving authentic Chinese food, Jade Palace is the place to be. Highly recommend for a delicious and reasonably priced culinary experience! 👍

We’re a Singaporean couple on our honeymoon. I’m soooo glad we decided to dine here despite the bad reviews on Google. Most of the bad reviews mentioned similar things like long wait, bad service, and decent food. When you’re craving for Chinese food, and a plate of fried rice/noodles (with lots of beef) cost as much as fish and chips, it’s pretty much a no brainer. I’ve never posted a review before but I think the current rating does no justice to this restaurant. If you need good service then go to a massage shop or a spa or a high end restaurant at double the price.

Went on a weekday night, was really quiet and food was decent. Hot and sour soup a little too peppery, could do with less pepper. Overall pretty good.

I was hesitant to try it after seeing the not so good review, but went ahead because we were craving for Chinese food. We didn't regret the decision. Everything was delicious by NZ/Aust standards. The duck was so tender and tasty and I highly recommend it! Sweet and sour pork as well as pork ribs were yummy too. Wanted to give 4 stars initially because it was slightly pricier, but food quality alone would be 5 stars. And I'm hoping I can help bring their ratings back up to do justice to their food.

surprisely good chinese food. the 回锅肉 was very good. everything else we ordered was good too. the white rice was the best i ever had outside of asia. glad that we tried even though the google rating is very low.

“AWESOME FOOD, LOVELY STAFF”. Me and my husband just came today to eat our lunch. We were hesitant at first coz of the reviews but then we still tried it ourselves. And to our surprise, the food was great, service was great and the place is big. As a chef myself, I highly recommend this place. Will def come back again! 👍

Nice restaurant. We came in last minute with 34 of us as tour group. For me and my wife we ordered the mixed vegetables, wanton noodle soup and fried noodle with garlic, onions and capsicum. All tasted delicious. Spend NZ70 for 3 dishes.

Despite the reviews we headed to Jade as we were craving Chinese food. They did not disappoint. The food was flavorsome, and service prompt. We loved that it had the option to choose large or small dishes. We had a young guy serving us, polite and to the point. Yes it does lack ambience but I would definitely recommend this place if you are after good food.

After seeing the low stars we were hesitant but I read through the recent reviews and we decided to give it a go. Let’s put it this way, I never make a review but after our wonderful experience I just had to help them out with a 5 star review. Jade Palace has some of the most authentic and fresh Chinese food I have ever had. Truly, this restaurant doesn’t deserve the low rating, it is outstanding! We even went there the following night!

The food was excellent! Each dish was very full-filling and delicious. The staffs were very nice and fast. So many choices from the menu and the taste was very Chinese authentic! Strongly recommend the place!

Very nice food even for a Chinese person, very authentic.

Food is really good. Portions per plate are for literally for 2 people. We enjoyed our takeaway of prawn fried noodles, vegetables fried rice and samosas.

When we reached the town it was late and this was the only restaurant open. Highly appreciated the manager who accepted our request and take our takeaway order for Vegetarian fried rice. The food was delicious and a bit spicy.

Revisited after 5 years. Portions have become a bit smaller. But nice food nevertheless. Had a lunch with Family. Good tasty food. My expectations were set a bit high from my memories from 5 years back. The portions were scaled down from my previous experience. Enjoyed all the dishes. Huge space but not that level of occupancy. The service is very matter of fact and not engaging for whatever reason. The actual lunch/dinner plates they provide are real small.

Despite closed after lunch they offered takeaways at 300pm. We were so hungry! And we took it to for a picnic in our car with the amazing serene view around us! Order gongbao chicken, broccoli stir fry,a tofu dish and rice. Portions are huge. And this place is so underrrated. Which i think they deserve better reviews!
