Review The Queen Charlotte - Linkwater

Awesome place, a really comfortable and old school tavern with an open fireplace for the cold days. Delicious food, the beef burger and the peperoni pizza were really yummy! The owner Sam is incredible friendly and such a nice person! The vibe was just welcoming and friendly!

Genuinely shocked to have one of the best vegetarian burgers I've ever had here in this random tavern sitting by the roadside on it's own - and I'm a regular attendee of Burger Wellington! Lovely staff, was quiet and sunny with plenty of outside seating when we went. As a visibly queer person, I also didn't feel uncomfortable here, but I didn't engage much with the staff or other customers other than to order and sit outside and eat in the sun!

This is a really interesting and rather quaint old country pub. The setting is in a picturesque valley surounded by bush clad hills. Some friends and I had lunch here yesterday. I suppoes the first thing I should point out, is that there was no cabinet food available. However my friends had a pizza between them and I had a Thai beef salad. Both of which were tasty and satisfying, although we thought they were a bit on the expensive side. It is certianly worth the trip out, especially if you like slightly eccentric suroundings.

Came for the vegetarian burger, wasn't disappointed. All food servings are huge. Friendly service and interesting old home - the journey to the bathrooms (which are clean and modernised) is a fun behind the scenes. Highly recommended.

We went for lunch. And coffee. We ordered the fish and chips. O.M.G. that was the BEST fish and chips i've had for years. The fish was so fresh and delicious, the batter was crunchy, the chips were very crispy, all served with a delicious salad. Very generous portions and very affordable price. The staff were delightful and the service fast and efficient. I would recommend this place to everyone. We will definately be back!

Just as you thought that stay at Anakiwa is going to a desolate dining experience after completing a hard day on the Queen Charlotte Sound Track, we were made aware by out accommodation host of a rural pub at Linkwater (which is eons away from Anakiwa especially after a big walk), however our concerns were put to rest when the Tavern owner operator happily picked us up for a meal there (and drop us off) . 5 stars for that, but to top that, just when you assumed that you will have to put up with rural pub grub, gosh were we mistaken, the food was amazing, better then some of the fine dining offer on the QCS track. Also the lovely lady whom runs it also happily accommodates Te Araro trampers as long have a meal there. What an amazing kiwi hospitality.. 👍👍👍👍

We popped in here for dinner not sure what to expect but boy, we were happy we did. The tavern itself is super quaint, lots of character and set on a beautiful bit of farmland with cracking views of the surrounding area. Staff were super friendly and the menu was surprisingly quite varied. I got the Chicken Parma Sandwich which was the special. Honestly, that plate should be a permanent dish on the menu. Marinated chicken, tomato sauce, cheese stacked between two doorstops of garlic bread oozing with pesto relish, plus decent chips and a proper side salad, not of this three pieces of lettuce as a side salad, it was proper. It was a big meal but I couldn’t help finish every crumb. The atmosphere of this place is a mix of locals, transient folks before/after hiking the track (camping is available on site) and passers by like us. Highly recommend and I’d come back just for the Parma 😂

Fantastic little place, perfect to stop into for lunch after the ferry across from Wellington if you're on your way straight to Nelson. Great food and drinks available for a really good price.

Sorry for the badly timed photo. How to start with this cool little Tavern. The owner and staff are wonderful. Absolutely lovely warm and welcoming. We felt at home right off the bat and like a well seasoned local. The hot coffee and vegan lemon cake was a fantastic little start on a cold wet day. We chilled in the restaurant/bar on the rustic style furnishings. Listen to chil beats before ordering lunch. We got the open steak and chicken sandwich that where fantastic from start to finish. We will absolutely be back especially for the market days and music festivals to come. Thank you everyone at the Queen Charlotte Tavern for your warm hospitality.

Absolute gem of a pub - maybe one of the best in the country. Great character, a few great local beers on tap, and hearty meals which were welcome after finishing the QCT. Worth spending a night in Anakiwa after finishing the walk just to stop by the tavern!

The best burger we have ever eaten! Lovely local tradition pub. We had such a delicious meal here when staying at the nearby campsite (Smiths farm holiday Park - also recommend!).

We enjoyed a delicious lunch here. The owner was delightful and the service fantastic. The menu is extensive, we had the pumpkin soup, chicken burger, open chicken sandwich and prawn cutlets. We finished with the sticky date pudding which was also delicious. We sat outside in the sun but there were tables inside by the fire. This tavern has a lot of character and the staff were friendly and helpful too. Highly recommend stopping at this tavern.

Great country atmosphere and fantastic food. Well worth a visit and you're supporting that great Kiwi traditional country pub. Use them or lose them!

We happened upon this quirky pub quite by accident. Absolutely wonderful friendly service (Sam) . Plus the best fish and chips in the District. The scenic drive from Havelock to Picton is a treat . 👍👍👍👍👍👍
