Review Beannie Cafe - Lower Hutt

Daniel Stone
Good food which came out quickly. Very friendly and accommodating staff. Huge helpings and good cabinet food. Great prices as well.

Visited today for quick afternoon pit stop. Had the Salmon & Cream cheese hash, friend had the vege option, both lovely and came with small side of coleslaw and relish. We also had a sweet treat, the yo-yo was very tasty, Flat white well made. Behold setting perfect for Jackson Street. Will return to sample their breakfast menu:)

Busy, quirky hidden gem on Jackson St. This was my first visit and I'd definitely go back there again. The counter food options looked amazing, but I had the french toast with bacon and banana, and my partner had the bubble and squeak. My french toast was huge and very yummy, but I would've preferred my banana to be pan-fried to caramelise it which sweetens it nicely. My partner really liked his dish. The coffees were great and the service was really quick. The toilet and lino floor could, however, do with an upgrade as I could literally tilt the whole toilet.

This place is such a surprise. Located in the heart of Petone, Cafe Beannie got the best breakfast deals on the block. Every dish is prepared heart and is experienced through taste.

Coffee was fantastic. Big Beanie breakfast was fabulous, was a queue when we walked in but fast service with a smile made is it vanish. Food was fast to the table. Wide range of choice be warned not over order you don't need a muffin and breakfast lol

I was treated to a wonderful meal, made & served by friendly staff. We ordered a Big Beannie, Breakfast Burrito & Mexican Brekky with 2 Mochas & Iced Chocolate drinks.

Nice experience here, good food, although the pie I had (which had really nice ingredients) was most probably microwaved so I would avoid that on a second visit. Nice little outdoor area out back 👌

Food in a flash. Simple scrambled eggs and bacon for breakfast. Food came quickly as did the coffee and you can't beat the price. Great Havana coffee.

All day breakfast was great value for money, well presented, and hot (without burning my mouth). Highly recommend this café. Coffee was great also. Thanks

Every time I pop into Beanie the staff always are so friendly! Plus the food and coffee are top notch! It's a must, if your in the petone vicinity.

One of my absolute fav Cafes! Service is awesome, coffee is always on point, food is delicious (especially the cheese scones) and the atmosphere always improves my mood

A real hit and miss my coffee was terrible and pie was to salty it was uneatable. But the service was very pleasant. These things happen occasionally so the service is 5 stars but food below average if i could rate seperate i would.

Food was great, service bloody terrible.
Sat there waiting for our food for just over one hour.
Not once did any member of staff ask us if everything was alright or if we were waiting.
They also forgot our coffee that was supposed to come with our meal and I had to go ask where our coffees coming.
The place was not that busy, they just forgot us.
No apologies were given.
We will not go back in a hurry.

Omg probably the best hot chocolate ive ever tried in my life!
cabinet food amazing to and the staff so friendly and chatty
Love the artwork on the wall too

Good coffee and food for a quick breakfast. Cafe was busy when we were there so the food took a little time, it was yum but nothing too special
Jason Leef
This cafe is just amazing, staff are so amazing and friendly, the food and coffee is amazing, even the cabinet food is it to die for, love bringing my vegan gf and her mum here, recommend to everyone
Sally
This place is normally good, but today the service was bad. Tables did not have enough serviettes, and cutlery. We sent a cold pie back to be reheated. Then they forgot to bring it out again. However, the other food was good: vanilla thickshake, Moroccan beef pie, and the potato top pie. Salmon stack didn't come out as a stack. It was deconstructed. Good coffee. An OK experience. Could've been better with less attitude from FOH staff.
Logan
Amazing staff that makes me feel at home serving scrumptious food that allows for pets. When you bring your dog the first thing staff do is bring water out in the great outdoor seating

A very busy cafe along Jackson St. I was after a light lunch and had the soup of the day which was creamy pumpkin - good thing I wasn't hungry as this was the smallest bowl of soup I have ever been served. It was tasty but overpriced for the small portion. The beannie club was also average, perhaps we chose wrong but I wouldn't come back in a hurry.

The specialty stuffed French toast was outstanding! So much fresh fruit and the cream cheese filling was inspired. Can’t wait to order it again. 👍

Absolutely fantastic! We were in Petone for three nights and went here for breakfast three days in a row!! Food, coffee and service all outstanding. It's super busy but be patient ...tables do turn over quickly and it's worth a wee wait!! Very highly recommended!!

Absolutely LOVE!!! everything about this gem and then some. Scrumptious food - both off menu and in cabinet is always served looking devine by AHHmazing staff (to include management). Premises cater for fur babies and by staff who are only too accomodating. You’ll never be sorry you visited here, the only regret would be that you never took my advice

Was super impressed by the vegetarian options we tried (we are in no way vegetarian lol) . Was so filling , portion size was large , and tasty . Food did take some time to come out , could do with a slight better clean on the outdoor area (bird poop around heaps) . Toilets were spotless which is a bonus too ! Will be back 😊

Stopped in one day and was quietly surprised at this wee gem. Delicious food, friendly service and a relaxed, though busy atmosphere. Look forward to our next visit.

Fantastic place, great friendly staff. They have a caramel slice to die for and every time I’ve had eggs Benedict it’s cooked to perfection. Absolutely recommend to anyone!

I've been to Beannie Cafe a few times and every time my coffee is prefect. Also the staff are friendly and the food is delicious. Good vibes
Ian De Terte
Some of the best food I have ever tasted at this cafe. The coffee is above average. The chocolate cake is awesome. I have been here a couple of times and I will go again. The prices are very reasonable.
Kerryn Yeats
Love the food, location, staff and the coffee is just grand. Found it to be busy all the times for it's a little small. But if I can squeeze in I'll definitely go back
Johann Go
Great coffee and friendly staff. Consistently good coffee. My only complaint is how long it can take for the coffee orders to come out, especially when one is in a rush for a takeaway coffee.
Neat Eats
It's ok! Took the 2yo and she was well catered for with kids menu, and they don't seem to mind children being there. That being said, there weren't many in there and I imagine it would only be suitable for children that are happy sitting fairly still. I had the Eggs Benedict and it was fine. Coffee is good - hot and strong. Didn't feel super welcome but that's ok, it was just a quick brunch.

Well I am new to wellington n were lost so fortunately somehow we reached market area of lower hutt (petone) n there we found this gem.
I ordered cafe latte n white sauce pasta n my husband ordered cappucino.
I found the place very relaxed n staff was alright.
I got my coffee in a very cute cup n portion of pasta was of decent size.
I love my food 😊😊😊
I would definitely go to this place again.

The best and most generous serving of French toast in Wellington! Loaded with fruit. The cafe has a courtyard out back which is perfect for weekend brunch.
Steve Plowman
Excellent food and very nice staff. They should consider going smoke-free though. Sitting in the cafe proper with wafts of smoke coming from the enclosed smoking section out the back tends to be a turn-off. There were people queued up inside not able to get a table and clearly not wanting to go out to eat in the smoking area even though there were tables available there, and who could blame them?

Beannie epitomises everything I love about Wellington brunch spots. Super friendly, casual and unique. Great service with a smile, awesome coffee and a menu full of the usual favourites; eggs benedict, mince on toast, creamy mushrooms etc.

I didn't know what I fancied and after much indecision, asked the helpful lady there if I could just construct my own from the extras & sides. The answer was a resounding and enthusiastic 'Yes absolutely!' - now I've asked this question at many Melbourne establishments and so many times, there is a lack of flexibility or change to existing items. I love in Wellington and specifically Beannie, they are happy for you to eat whatever you like. How it should be.

I selected the potato hash cakes, creamy mushrooms, a poached egg, wilted spinach and black pudding. The BP was flavoursome, the potato cakes were crisp and delicious and the mushrooms were creamy and complemented everything else. I finished it off with lashings of Rocket Fuel Sauce - I love when I find this condiment in cafes, such a great touch.

With coffee so good that I ordered a second, Beannie for me is a relatively cheap, cheerful and delicious option out of the city in Petone. I head back every time.

The coffee was fine, nothing wrong with it at all. However, the wait to receive it was unacceptable, given there were only two other diners in the cafe, both of whom had already been served.

Also I found the surcharge they tack on for takeaway coffee quite...umm...really? A small latte cost $4.00 in-house, but to have it takeaway was $4.30. Large: $4.50 in-house, $4.80 takeaway. Yeah sure it's only a few cents but I've honestly never seen a surcharge like this before, and it smacks of desperation.

When our takeaway (for our sins!) latte's came through the male barista announced them, and we took them and said thank you, but he was already walking away. Then as we went to leave, we walked past another worker who was cleaning around the doorframe, and we passed her in awkward silence.

Great coffee and tempting cabinet food, but seriously - forget crocs and moustaches on ladies - unnecessary surcharges in cafes is the ultimate turn off.

I am a loyal beannie fan, i will always make the effort to travel to Petone just for brunch. Coffee is fantastic, food is top notch. Awesome kids menu and great prices. There is something for everyone here. No matter what you order make sure you save enough room for the sweet stuff in the cabinet, you wont regret it! Caramel slice, gluten free chocolate cake, lemon slice are all to die for!
Jayita
Loved the food !
We ordered the iced coffee (amazing), the chicken and bacon burger (huge, got a little messy but sooo good!), the chicken panini ( nice), mushroom, sundries tomatoes and spinach penne pasta (very nice) and the chicken hashcake (different in a nice way).

Food was entirely satisfactory and enjoyable, service was quick and friendly, and the atmosphere was pleasant. I will go there again. Great discovery.

Amazing food. What a surprise to see the most beautiful baguettes filled with simple filings. It was like being back in France on holiday all over! Coffee was superb. Service was a cool and casual. I will definitely come back to this Petone cafe first over the others. My new fave!

I eat at Beannie most Sundays before work, but last week was the first time I had time to enjoy something off their menu. I had the salmon eggs benedict and it was superb. The smoked salmon was plentiful and delicious (which is very important to me, I am a salmon addict and easily eat it 5 times a week). The hollandaise sauce was equally as plentiful and the lemony, fresh taste to it made it a great accompaniment to the salmon. I would also recommend anything from their cabinet, as I have tried a lot of it and it's all very good- I especially like the salmon hashcake or the paninis. The quality of coffee is definitely among the best in petone. The service was quick and exceptionally nice- you always feel so welcome at Beannie.

Big beannie is the go huge plate of amazing breaky great way to start the day. Friendly staff great coffee and awesome iced coffee too! Recommended

Have been loyal Beannie fans for the last few years and still love it! The staff are onto it, Josh makes superb coffees, and I'm yet to try anything I don't like here. Their snickers slice is a stand out star but also love their pancakes (can you tell I have a sweet tooth?). Great café, soo glad it's just a short walk away.
Julia Mc
I've been here a few times but don't feel inclined to back unless I want a value for money pot of tea. The hollandaise sauce they put on things that require hollandaise sauce tastes extremely chemically or processed. It ruins the beautifully poached eggs every time.
Chris
Good food, and good service. I enjoy going there.
Olivia Jane
Food was nice, hot and delicious.
Service at till was awesome, super friendly and patient.
Barista is a legend, nice coffee.
Food was of good size but waitress was slightly boisterous. The younger staff members definitely shine in this funky wee cafe.
Luisa Tuisamoa
Wonderful feel and atmosphere! Big beanie breakfast was to die for and very filling. If you are like me a big eater then this ones for you.
Food well presented and fresh. Passion fruit smoothie was Devine.
I would recommend this place to anyone. Outstanding!

I agree that this cafe rocks! The staff is the friendliest I have encountered in Wellington: ) Me and my son drove from the city to visit a house in Lower Hutt much too early for the viewing time. The viewing time was quite late and we had time to spare. We were searching for a cafe that was still open and found Beannie. The staff were closing it though and they let me in and told me I can have a drink. Thanks guys for a lovely pot of tea and a delicious melting moment!

Judged on coffee alone, Beannie consistently delivers in the morning. Enthusiastic and energetic staff certainly help get you going too!

This cafe rocks! The staff are fantastic, the food is divine and the coffee lovely. I have eaten at this Cafe a good few times now, sometimes for lunch and sometimes just for cake and coffee. The food is home made and most importantly fresh. I highly recommend this cafe if you want fresh, homemade food at a very reasonable price.

This place is excellent, my wife and i met 2 friends for a late breakfast, 2 eggs benny with salmon, blt, surf and turf less the prawns added mushrooms! sooooo good the presentation is absolutely gorgeous and the food is amazing, all in a timely fashion as well, the highlight was definitely the coffee though, the gentleman behind the coffee machine is an absolutle artist! i could only dream of making a coffee that tastes that good and looks even better! big ups to the owners and staff guys really really lovely place.

I saw the Beannie Cafe advertised in a Wellington Business Magazine so my Friend and I decided to try it. I have now dined at the Cafe 3 times. Each time I have had impeccable service amazing food and a wonderful ambiance. I am about to go there today again with my son, which I am really looking forward to. A real jewel in Petone!

I'm part of a yoga group who has started using this cafe because it is close to where we do yoga and we heard it was good and affordable.
But it is more than just good and affordable.
The staff actually go out of there way to help you and the food is gorgeous.
I don't drink coffee but the hot chocolate is brilliant, really tasty. I tried the quiche and it was absolutely gorgeous, and well presented.
Well done to the owners Bev and Annie.

What a great new cafe in Jackson St! Owned & run by the same lady who had Palace Cafe a while back (which has gone way down since the change of ownership!).

I've been back to Beannie loads of times now and it never fails to impress. Great food, awesome environment, and friendly really helpful staff. I'm not a coffee drinker but my friends/family who are rave about the coffee.

Even if something is not on the menu (like the corn fritters I asked about) they'll happily make it if they have the ingredients.

The courtyard out the back is fantastic, especially on a sunny day.

In a street with loads of cafes, Beannie really stands out for me, it's my fave. Highly recommended.
