Review Adzuki Bean Cafe & Restaurant - Lower Hutt

We went in on a quiet night. The food was great. We got the beef wellington and seafood chowder. Our server was kind and made sure to let us know about the dessert special they had that day. One of the best desserts I've had in a long time. Highly recommend.

First time in this place. I like my duck dish very much but my husband think the beef Wellington got too strong red wine taste(I like it though). The smoke salmon on light meal for my little one is slightly over cooked. Overall this is a good place for family dinner.

Friendly staff and atmosphere, excellant meal, beautiful flavours, and attractive presentation. I had smoked salmon fish cake with beetroot, spinach sweated in garlic, poached egg and hollandaise, but wait theres more lol, & then i had the berrycheese-cake with french vanilla ice cream and cream, fuu, ill deffinately be back

Great food. The hardest part is working out which fantastic dish to eat. I am amazed this place is not full all the time. And has not changed. Still worth driving 30km just for the great food.

We went here for a birthday dinner with a large family group, I can honestly say everyone really really loved the food great service and the friendly staff every body got their food at the same time. Not easy to do with a small kitchen. We all highly recommend this restaurant 👌 Be back very soon team thanks so much 🙏

Had THE BEST ever berry cheesecake here last week. It was so creamy and so delicious, I'm going to buy one every week. Highly recommend

This is my momz and I go to...the staff are friendly and we can have a decent conversation without so much noise and the food & coffee is 👌 relaxing & spacious 😊

The best service I have had in a long time. Quick prompt and friendly. They definitely know what they are doing. Had beacon and eggs, toast was nice and thick, beacon was nice and crispy and the scrambled eggs where nice and creamy. Truly well done on every aspect.

I'm not a huge fan of the decoration, apart from that, we spent a pleasant moment to the sound of the piano. Good service, good food. This Isa good spot for a brunch in Petone.

Had the big breakfast recently. Other than the dry baked beans component was more than ok..spinich a nice touch..Coffee was good to. Friendly chat about my dog (same breed as her own) was appreciated and welcoming for a return visit

Great food at good prices. Friendly service and nothing is ever too much trouble. Go to the daytime cafe weekly and love it, food is so tasty. The night time restaurant takes it to the next level and is amazing.

Went there last night for a 3rd time recently and it was again amazing food with lovely staff. Each time I have been the food has been delicious with great flavour, hot and beautifully presented. Doesn’t look much from street but thoroughly recommend it
The venison pie is delicious as is the hash stack. Great place to stop in for for lunch or breakfast and it's in the entertainment book.. Bonus!!

The food is delicious, my favorite dish is the Seafood chowder, and the Salmon fish cake - I'm talking big servings in very big plates. Great chef and wonderful staff. One of the best cafe shops on Jackson, where you can enjoy a nice meal for lunch or a relaxing good cuppa coffee and catchup.

A friend and I came in on the fly for a sunny morning coffee, and I am extremely impressed. The short black I'm consuming is on point. Thanks team!

Absolutely recommend! Service was great, they do BYO wine and have a tasty selection menu - they make a perfect medium rare scotch fillet and an awesome dairy free pavlova for dessert 🎂 Sadly the place was dead but I will definitely be back again and they are with the entertainment book too 👌

Good meal, good service, friendly staff. Decor a bit tired and dimly lit. Had poached eggs on toast, all cooked perfectly. Would come again.

Food was yummy and the staff were attentive. I haven't been in a while but I've never heard bad things. Will have to add that back to my list

I went solo for breakfast this morning (ANZAC Day) and had an excellent vegetarian breakfast. There was one small family group while I was there, and another family arrived as I left, but other than that it was empty. In fact, both times I've eaten here it's been quiet and I'm not sure why!!! Their service was lovely, as was the food, including generous portions - I couldn't ask for better. More people need to try this place as they're doing great work, thanks for an excellent meal!

Wow. We had such a fantastic feed. The duck was not dry, all 3 meals were fantastic. The staff were great and we felt the 30km drive was worth it. We will be back.
Totally love this place.. amazing service and yummy food. If I could rate higher I would. Totally recommend the eggs Benedict with spinach and salmon Amazing.

We've been her a couple of times lately and the food is always fresh and well prepared albeit slightly on the pricey side. The decor is looking tired and has a bit of an identity crisis (wagon wheels, old fashioned lighting, Asian influences and mixed decor). Changing this and lightening the place up I think would only benefit the business. This is purely my personal opinion and observation. The wait staff are friendly and attentive. Definitely worth eating there.

The food here is consistently excellent. I had the individual beef wellington and my wife had the duck. Both very tasty. In fact I don't think we have ever had a bad meal here.
Jay
A very impressive amount of GF items on the menu. Very big portions and friendly staff. The big vege breakfast really is BIG! Would definitely come here again.

Live near by.
Love the breakfast food.
Food is always fresh and delicious.
The beef wellington is always a treat as not many places do it and do it well they do.!

My Dad and I came here for dinner on a Friday night, there were a few groups in the restaurant but it wasn't overly busy. The service was excellent the staff were very efficient and friendly. I order the morracan rubbed lamb rump that came on couscous that had cranberries, sultanas and pine nuts in it and also grilled veges with a dollop of hummus and pesto around the side. It was delicious!!! All the flavours mixed together were so yum!! My dad order the tarakihi that came on bok Choy and veges and said that the sauce on the fish was amazing! We also ordered a glass of wine and a side of veges. Was very satisfied after and will definitely be returning!

Adzuki Bean is absolutely fantastic! I love it!

It was my birthday and my partner surprised me with our dinner location, I would have never guessed this place as I had never heard of it before - a hidden treasure for sure. I have Celiac's and must follow a strict gluten free diet, Adzuki Bean is the first restaurant I have ever been to that offered gluten free alternatives on most meals they served. This had me jumping on the spot because even though some restaurants offer a couple gluten free options here and there my options when eating out are always restricted and it makes eating out a struggle. I loved having choice for the first time in a long time.

I had their five spices marinated duck dish - it was phenomenal! I have never tried duck before and I can't wait to go back, I bit pricey when you see the figure on the menu but totally worth it, the meal was huge! My partner had the pork dish, I don't have much to say on that because I didn't eat it but he said it was yummy and he enjoyed it.

We opted for dessert which we normally don't do because most restaurants don't do gluten free versions of dessert dishes so it was really nice to see Adzuki Bean does. I had Creme Brulee for the first time, having never been offered a gluten free version anywhere else before and it was delicious! My partner had the special dessert that evening which was Ambrosia, both the desserts were so yummy we split them and ate a bit of both they were just too good not to indulge in both.

Adzuki Bean is a bit of drive away because I live in Wellington City but I'll definitely be making the trip again very soon, can't wait to try everything and then repeat. I would absolutely LOVE to see an Adzuki Bean open in Wellington Central!

I have not been for a while, partly because I felt the food was a bit underwhelming. However I did return on Valentines of all nights and the food was average at best. I ordered the scotch fillet and the fat was not rendered enough. There is nothing worse than a steak with chewy fat. The beef jus was more like soya sauce which was strange and the gorgonzola was practically non-existent. The duck fat potatoes left a lot to be desired and if you say you will serve rocket, you serve it rather than replace it with drab lettuce leaves. This dish used to be amazing and my favourite part was the dreamy rich beef jus. This was three years ago and on the whole the standard of food has fallen away. The service was good though.

Overall not going to return anytime soon.

Bad service. Horrible food.
Will not return. We ordered really basic food which took 75mins to come out and tasted awful. My toast had been microwaved so was rock hard as were my partners hash browns. I have no idea to be honest how this place stays in business as the food is awful.

This chef does not know what he is doing. The entree/nibble was horrible. Really cheap supermarket olives and feta - that were very cold - just taken out of the fridge I suppose. The duck was okay, I suppose, but the beef wellington was BAD: Horribly cheap pate and gross bacon around the meat. Wrestling with elastic bits of boiled bacon fat isn't fun, and the crude bacon flavour spoils the dish. There's a reason why you use prosciutto. The best thing was what the restaurant DIDN'T make - the wine! Barren Rock Pinot. Yum!

And to top it off, we got overcharged, had to go back and get the refund with our receipt in hand.

Sunday 27th July at about 9:50 came in to order a large flat white for $5. Took so long to make it that I had to leave to get my train to the city. Paid by EFTPOS... surely you can refund it and I would expect that. Will consider giving you an extra star if you refund me for what you could not provide.

We used to love Adzuki Bean. Sadly, this is no longer. We went today and it was terrible. The OJ was horrible concentrate Keri OJ rather than real OJ, the eggs Benedict was awful, had hardly any hollandaise sauce, said it came with "ham off the bone", which was really cheap shaved ham. We ordered a side with it which they forget, and when we reminded them didn't come until the meal was almost over and were over cooked. We got a side of the wedges which was small and said they came with "tomato salsa" which was really cheap packet tomato sauce. And the coffee has really gone downhill. We are very disappointed given this used to be a favourite of ours. We shan't be going back again.

This cafe continues to deliver great fresh food, beautifully presented mains and delightful desserts. The staff are always friendly and attentive. Its is increasingly rare to find a restaurant /cafe where you can talk to your fellow diners without having to shout over loud music or kitchen noise. Thank you for an enjoyable relaxed evening Adzuki Bean.

Love this place. Nice relaxing atmosphere, attractive decor. We popped in for a late night coffee after dining at a very cramped and noisy restaurant for dinner. We appreciated the quiet and calm surroundings of Adzuki whilst we treated ourselves to a warming and perfectly crafted mochaccino each. The chocolate fish and fluffy marshmallows served on the side were a nice touch....who needs an expensive dessert?

This is one of our very favourite places. Despite having such excellent food, it is usually very quiet with nice ambience. Our meals were excellent as usual and the service very attentive, friendly and efficient.

Wow what amazing food! My husband and I had never been there before, had not heard anything about it but saw the blackboard inviting people to come in and enjoy their 'famous' seafood chowder so we went in and were treated to a fabulous lunch. We started with steamed mussels which were divine! I had the chowder and it is to die for! I have tasted many chowder but nothing as silky, smooth and tasty as this. My husband had the duck roasted potato salad with chicken.......OMG is all I can say....flavoursome food. And the service was awesome too. My husband has demanded I take him back on his birthday. .............

This is our favorite restaurant. We celebrate all of our special occasions here. Never disappointments, magical experience every time, flavors infuse so well together. Have tried something different each and every time and just wonderful.

My partner had pain in his left leg so the waitress came out and started massaging his leg while we ate which was very nice.
Kim
Disappointing!!! We have eaten here before and the food was fantastic so thought we would grab a bite to eat before a movie, we arrived at 7:15pm and did not receive our food until 8:50pm. The scotch fillet was terrible and totally overdone for medium rare, duck fat potatoes tasted like they were microwaved-I didn’t realize you get free charcoal on the $28 steak. The Moroccan lamp rump at $32 was overpriced and nothing seemed to match on the dish  I spoke to the waitress about the food standard and she said they were short staffed so only had 1 chef and kitchen hand. I asked her why they were still accepting customers when they were not doing a good job of food for current customers and she couldn’t answer me! 3 other tables sent their food back whilst we were there. We will not be returning.

Tried this place just because we had not been to it before and WOW, we will go again. Lovely service and food that was brilliant. Four of us went and everyone was delighted.

Excellent food and service.

Went out for dinner there last night, I was really impressed with the service which was friendly & attentive without being too much in your face.

I had the fish of the day and it was possibly the best pan fried fish I've ever had. Really tasty.

My partner had the scotch fillet and sums it up as well cooked and nicely seasoned.

The restaurant is quite spacious and has a nice interior. We'll be back.

This is the first time for me to write reviews for any restaurant. I like eating out, and always use others' experience as the reference. I started going to this restaurant since it opened in 2007. From my experience, I do not agree with those negative feedback. There was a little bit delay during peak time, but the service is always very good. If you say I am lucky, okay I am, I am lucky for the past 20 times! I like this restaurant, fantastic food, nice service, good location. Just the wine list is not perfect for someone who does love wine. Highly recommend!

I really loved this place. It is my favorite. The food is fantastic and the waitresses are amazing. I watched a few people that walked in and were so rude and they handled it very well. I love a place where you get treated like a friend. Love it. The decor is a bit odd but it is a place where you can just relax and enjoy yourself. I recommend to all my friends and they loved it too. Good going adzuki bean you guys are awesome

The Good Bits: tender, succulent steak(good portion), reasonable wait time, good, clean presentation, nice service, friendly staff, fresh seasonal produce, tasty kai.
To Improve on:Waitress(looked a bit run off her feet, seemed to be only one for the whole place) Confusing decor, especially the glass display cabinet and mismatched furnishings, hard to determine what the style of kai was until you sat down to order

This is the second time we have dined at this restaurant and had a bad experience. Twice the steak was very undercooked and then when correcting was completely overcooked. On the second visit all 4 main meals were disappointing, service slow, dessert and coffee not offered and we saw 2 customers turned away. The steak we took home to the dog.

After reading several reviews on many restaurants we decided to book our party of 30 for dinner at Adzuki Bean Cafe and Restaurant.
We were not disappointed by our decision.
We could not fault the meals. Anyone who has worked in the food industry knows what a challenge it is to get hot meals served at the same time and the chefs at Adzuki pulled this off brilliantly. Being a group of 30 we probably ordered nearly every item off the menu (which catered to all tastes) and everyone I asked loved their meal.
The staff were very attentive to our needs without being intrusive and went out of their way to make sure my birthday was special.
I will definitely recommend Adzuki Bean Cafe to others and can't wait till we go back again.
Cindy Thompson
Food was excellent. I had a minestrone soup starter, which was fantastic. Then had the beef wellington which was cooked to perfection. Will definitely be going back. Service was also very good.
Ray
This was our first time here and we had high expectations from reading the other reviews. We were not disappointed. The food was terrific and so was the atmosphere. Plenty of room at the table and attentive staff topped it off. Special mention for the desserts. Make sure you book though. Loads of people were turned away whilst we were there.
Melissa
Lovely food - not exactly the best atmosphere, looks like an old shop with very little changes made for the fit out.
Food relatively pricy - use the e-book, and if you hate salty food dont go here as the salt was over the top. Good sized portions.
MW
Our favourite restaurant. Menu has just been changed and there's some great new dishes on there. Well worth trying.

The food is delicious. Christmas time went with friends and had the special Beef Wellington - superb. Every time we have eaten there either for lunch or dinner, the food and service have been first class. Have recommended to many!
Johanna
interior very spacious, great place to sit down and have a great supreme coffee, my husband had pan seared lambs fry with black pudding, while i had the best hash stack with the tastiest ingredients. We have been back a few times now.

We were in Petone yesterday and thought we would have a spot of lunch. As there was a parking slot outside Adzuki Bean we snaffled that.

I started with a very pleasant kumara and carrot soup. My wife decided to pass. For mains my wife ordered Caesar salad and a glass of Brightwater Pinot Gris; my choice was artichoke, goats cheese, sundried tomato tart. The pastry was very light.

For dessert my wife had a creme brûlée which she considered was excellent.

Overall a very pleasant lunch with good quality food and pleasant service at an acceptable cost
