Review Buddha Stix Petone - Lower Hutt

Nadine Nicholls
Dined later so easy parking, Great food and the service was amazing. Cocktails selection fantastic not so much for Mocktails (kids did not enjoy) price reasonable and food delicious. Would definitely go again.

The Wellington restaurant worthy of having five star rating. For this visit, we've order the sharing menu for dinner. We were five and opted for the no entree option. Despite the set menu, you can swap any mains with other mains (just asked the friendly staff). For this visit, we've tried the panang curry, seafood boat, prawn tom yum, pad Thai, and fried fish hot plate. It is hard to choose which one was my favorite. Everything was cooked perfectly. The seasoning was done in a way that complimented each dishes. You can taste and enjoy the actual flavors of each ingredients and tasted fresh. The place has a welcoming atmosphere. Highly recommended.

After some good Thai food? This place offers really good food. We had a beef sizzling platter which was really good. The curry without coconut was not entirely to our taste but it was a good dish as well.

Service was good 4.5 out of 5; food was okay, wasn't as authentic as what I expected, especially for the jungle curry that we have ordered... 3.5 out of 5; Dessert was really disappointing apart from the presentation, tiramisu tasted like a coffee cake, cheese cake doesn't taste like homemade, 2 out 5 for dessert. Overall experience should be 3.5 out 5.

Excellent food, Great staff. Compliments to the chef and his team. Will surely visit again.

Great atmosphere, nice sized meals for the price, lovely friendly service. Main meals were delicious however the dessert was a bit bland. Nicely presented though.

30/6/23 1800hrs Delicious food..good serving size, very well presented.. the food aromas in this place were simply appetising on their own. You can tell the mixture of herbs and spices used in their food as you walk in. When you taste the food.. the promise was delivered. ❤️ But what amazed me was the waitress who worked so hard and was so quick, such a diligent spirit. She had a very sweet smile and was so lovely to deal with. I didn’t get her name but she had long blonde, wavy hair. Thank you amazing lady.

Amazing every single time I go. My go to is Gurri Puffs, best I've ever had. No one makes them like Buddastix. And the garlic hot plate. On fire. You won't ever regret eating here.

Went here for dinner on Saturday night 5/11/22. I highly recommend Budda Stix . Great food / reasonably priced . Helpful friendly staff and a lovely atmosphere . I will be back

Love the food, good quality and the service very good. Only let down was the dessert, we ordered Tiramisu, that was not Tiramisu as we know it. However, we would happily go back.
Andrea Tripodi
Lovely but too busy.... you need to book for a spot quite in advance. Food is good and staff is very nice.

Just went tonight group of 7 was extremely tasty dessert was very generous and every meal was very tasty. The wine wasn't what we ordered so we recieved a replacement complimentary. Will definitely be coming back again and recommending to friends and family.

Love the food although I feel that the portions are smaller from what they used to be.

Had dinner here with a mate.

Staff were nice and knowledgable of the menu. I wasn’t sure at first what the cuisine was - but this is place Thai.

Menu was authentic. I tried the pad Thai but was pretty drawn towards a lot there.

My mate had the masaman curry and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Great ambience and lighting. Would go back.
We had dinner on a public holiday and it was quite busy, food came out really fast and the service was great! I had the roti
and peanut sauce was was so delicious it's definitely the best I've had around for main I had chicken green curry and it was Soo flavoursome and so filling I would definitely recommend!!! 👌👌
Seafood laksa didn't taste nice, nothing like any laksa I've had, but had a fair amount of seafood and the prawn pad thai was ok.

We had our date night at Buddha Stix it was a wonderful evening the service was fantastic and the food was so delicious and flavourful. It was busy when we arrived but we were seated right away and the staff were attentive without being annoying. The food came out at good intervals and was so delicious. Would highly recommend this place to everyone.

Wow. Food tasted just like air since that’s all we got. Worst experience I have ever had. Waited 50 minutes for nothing, not even a glass of water, thank god we brought our own wine. Manager couldn’t have cared less and barely spoke 3 words to us when we got there. Weren’t apologetic at all, walking out was the best thing we did.

the staff are great!! But that's where it ends for us. The food is very poor. we ordered summer rolls, deep fried pork and laska. the summer rolls were flavorless. the deep fried pork had no taste to it. we added our homemade hot sauce to it to eat it. and the laska had 1 piece of chicken, full of brocolli and the sauce had this off taste to it. I know this place is fusion cooking but seriously it's more confused than infused. given that our meal cost in excess of $60 I will definitely not be eating here ever again.
Sorry to say it was our first time at the restaurant and we were celebrating a wedding anniversary but had a very bad experience. We had a table booking for 8:15 pm. The first person to serve us was sweet initally but later because the restaurant was not full we were just rushed on throughout the evening. The service was pathetic. Poor hospitality ethics. Table was not cleared from time to time. We had to keep calling staff to serve us. Dinner was served but no one came back with dinner plates and spoons we had to call for it and even when the young lady came with the folks and spoons she just threw it on the table that was very disrespectful. We made it a point to let her know the service was bad. Most of all it was even more of a put off when you can see staff just faffing around talking to mates and co workers and not doing their job. Don't think we would ever like to visit again and also recommend anyone to visit. Would recommend you'll to either train staff or have suitable people service customer on the floor. I would not even want to give a 1 rating for Attitude, Promptness and Service. VERY VERY DISAPPOINTED!!!

The staff here are very friendly
The food is very nice
I had the green curry and is was really yummy
This place is always busy
Will definitely go back

The food here is amazing!Even better- the portion they give you on the plate is so big. Loved the cashew stir fry and fried fish fillet. Ambience is lovely. Definitely going back.

It is an okay place, but wouldn't recommend to anyone. Went here for date night so got to try a variety of dishes. Their chicken wings (starter) was dry and lacked flavor. Their spring rolls had a weird flavor, and their lemon chicken main was not enjoyable at all. Also got to try their red curry, which was flavorsome, but didn't have a lot of chicken. Would not be returning here.

Very disappointing place, it is always so packed so I was very sad when I finally got to dine here. The food was ok nothing to rave about but the service was absolutely horrible. The platters we got were not spaced out very well, we received one dish for 14 of us and then waited an hour before we got anything else. We were on 2 tables 5 on 1 and the rest on another and the waitress kept putting all the food on the 5 person table, we asked her to space them out according to the amount of people per table but she rudely said that it’s what is said on the docket, which is shocking to me because it’s common sense that platters should be shared evenly. She spent the rest of the night sulking and ignoring our questions and even spilt my drink all over my partner, we ended up leaving early without having the rest of our dinner or the rest of the food even being served. Very very very poor.

Don't bother going here...
We reserved a table for 7:30pm and didn't get seated until HALF AN HOUR LATER. What's the point in booking? So you DON'T WAIT....right?
Food was below average....pork ribs were VERY rubbery and one even came out stone cold on my plate while the rest were Luke warm.
(I think someone in the kitchen spotted a rib on the bench and just chucked it on my plate....
I hope to GOD it wasn't from a previous customers left overs but there's not much else I can think!!!)
Very disappointed in this place. Will not be recommending OR coming back.
(I would actually rate a ZERO if I could)
Stu
Food is amazing everytime and very consistent! Staff are very friendly and attendive to your needs without being annoying. The entrees are very tasty and whole menu is fairly priced. If you want a good decent feed with some top quality food without paying a massive bill at the end, then dine here. It's also ideal for functions and very child-friendly. Keep up the good work team! :)
Stephanie
The restaurant is clean and tidy, and not crammed up. The service is excellent and food comes out quickly despite being super busy. Food is literally incredible with excellent options for vegetarians and vegans. Guri puffs are life changing, definitely recommend!

As this place gets very busy I definitely suggest booking.

Only thing that could be improved is either the option of a half size or kids size for children. :)
Varsha Patil
I would say not best in the town for the Thai food , but not bad.
Considering the cost I was expecting a bigger serving of the Thai curry,
Definitely not going back as there are cheaper and better options available for Thai food.
Leima Tu'atonga
the service was TOP NOTCH
the food was TOP NOTCH
the ambience was TOP NOTCH
BuddhaStix was TOP NOTCH👌👌
ordered the combination for our appetizers [spring rolls, guri puffs, chicken nibbles and ribs] $19.50; chicken pad thai $19.90 and the Vietnamese seafood boat $24.50 for our mains...DELICIOUS
I absolutely loved the soup of the seafood boat,: it was kinda like a curry laksa with the coconut sauce, very very satisfying (RECOMMEND), plenty of mussels, prawns, fish and squid 👌👌
got there going on to 9pm and they closed at 9.30pm but they still seated us and we really enjoyed it...loved it...will absolutely return with more people in tow.

Was ages ago that we first dined here and unfortunately were not impressed. Long wait times and the food was less then impressive. However am looking forward to gping back again to give it another go.

In short: food came quick, staff were genuine welcoming and well-presented, slightly loud place but to be expected with such a busy restaurant, would recommend, authentic asian beers and food were top. Awesome experience, the missus was extremely happy with the restaurant which is always a bonus.

Excellent service. Staff provide a welcoming smile and friendly conversation when serving food. Walked in on what seemed to be a majorly busy night for this restaurant on a Sunday a couple of weeks back. Would recommend booking for new comers. We had a five minute wait for a table but it was worth it! Quite loud and tables closer together than my wife and I were used to but it wasn't as bothersome as I expected. Food was faultless. Asked for no sugar in mine and no broccoli - no hitches here, it came as I asked. Had a reasonable selection of beers (good to see some asian beers) and non-alcoholic juices that my wife ordered. Don't be afraid to go off menu, the staff seemed unfased when my wife ordered off-menu drinks. Saw lots of kids at a big table so I guess it's alright for the little ones too.

My partner and I came here for one of our anniversaries. Can not fault the food or staff here at all, was a bit dimly lit so was a little hard to read the menu!
We were recommended this place and I now recommend it to all. Food is to die for!

I am very disappointed in the whole evening, we had chosen Budah Stix nice family meal to celebrate our daughters birthday, as we have eaten there before I could not fault it 23 people service was excellent . Order was menu 1 to share at $30.00 head plus our grandkids to have sweet and sour pork. Great entree came out 1 hour later still waiting, when I spoke to the manager regarding the service the excuse was pathetic, I will give you a chance to redeem yourselves before I go onto to my face book page ask my friends and their friends to share our experience to never ever go to Buddah Stix. The total night was ruined I am so angry at the whole night. The service would have been much better at Macdonalds.

I have never written a review before but after going out to dinner with my family tonight for what seems like the millionth time to Buddha Stix (my family and I absolutely adore the restaurant and have been going for about a year) I decided to have a look at what people were saying online about my favourite restaurant. I was appalled to find a recent 1 star review (that was actually unnecessarily rude) for Buddha Stix Petone on this website. My parents and I have always received AMAZING service from Mohan and the wait staff and the food IS TO DIE FOR. The worst thing I experienced at Stix is finding dried rice on my spoon ONCE (which was immediately replaced followed by what seems to be genuine apology from a waitress). Sure, sometimes you have to wait awhile for your mains after your entree but it nothing ridiculous. I have sometimes waited an hour at other restaurants, but never here. LASTLY, if you ever have a problem with your meal, TALK TO MOHAN (who must be the manager) A couple of times my mother has tried something new and it didn't fit her tastebuds, or even I have ordered something too spicy and needed it toned down and Mohan has ALWAYS sorted out our problems so easily.

Buddha Stix is great and I couldn't recommend it enough to anyone. Don't let the one or two negative reviews fool you - Stix ( as my family and I like to call it ) is grand and deserves every 5 star review in the book.

Not vegan friendly. Last two times I've been i specified vegan and been given egg. Their food can be good but if you specify that you cater for vegans then that should be the case. Shame as have had nice meals here in the past but would no longer recommend
Bex
Absolutely revolting! If I could I would give it a 0. The only nice thing about it was the cheesecake, all other food was a waste of money! (We paid $79 for some small rubbery ribs, soggy spring rolls with no flavour, 2 mouthfuls of 2 mains which got thrown out after those mouthfuls as they were just disgusting (like come on, how hard is it to get fried rice and pad Thai right!?) and 2 cheesecakes - an absolute rip off of a hole. If you are considering going here, don’t, go to a better restaurant! You can get much nicer and actually edible food for a lot cheaper at takeaway stores. I have never written a review for a place before, but after going to this shit shack, I decided it best to warn people not to waste their hard earnt money.

Another lovely dinner had at Buddha Stix, with the Gori puffs being delish. Excellent service and awesome, spicy food made dinner a huge success (again) 😀
Best Indian dine in I've had! Food is cooked fast and the waitress is fast on making sure your glass is topped up with water, which is great! Food is amazing and a lot of variety too.
Andrew M B
thank you soooo much for the food poisoning!!! It’s been a really fun last few days, vomiting and diarrhoea is a great way to enjoy your weekend. you just lost yourself a regular customer!
Kulbhushan Joshi
As usual the food was great and with good sized portions. However this experience fell short of a higher review to the fact that it took 30 mins between ordering and receiving our meal. When asked we were told they were trying to clear the larger tables. Hmmm wrong answer.

I thoroughly enjoyed my first ever dine in here.
Fabulous staff, air con and lighting is comfortable, presentation of food is wonderful, flavoursome and also healthier than other diners.
Timing is acceptable too.
Well done BuddaStix
Chaos
the overall experience was ok the food was a bit bland and sweet (prob not using fresh stuff) yet they had authentic Asians in the kitchen idk maybe they want to cater to European pallet didn't see an Asian inside eating

the wait staff are super good looking and the food is fast but they really need to develop the flavour

I had a great meal. We went for an anniversary dinner and one of the meals that was ordered had a funny smell to it and put people off their meals. It was not too bad.
ALICE
yummy food good portion sizes, had the set menu 3 We did not like the sweet-and-sour pork as it tasted a little to tomatoey for our Liking.Very lovely staff where very helpful and treated us well. Would definitely come back and would recommend this restaurant.
Tootser
I've been here a few times usually have the sweet and sour pork! I've also had takeaways from here also! The staff here are always willing to help and meet your needs. Excellent service!

I recently ordered the Vietnamese fresh spring rolls, chicken wings and marinated pork ribs.

*spring rolls apparently stuffed with minced pork, blanched bean sprouts fresh mint and udon style noodles. Sounded great. However they were just vermicelli noodles wrapped in paper rolls about the thickness of a child’s pinkie finger. No trace of pork, beans sprouts, fresh mint or flavour. The best part about it was the generic off the shelf sweet chilli sauce it came with.

*Chicken wings described as cured to perfection in our spicy marinade served with sweet chilli sauce. These tasted like they had been served to a customer who sent them back and then the sold to me a week later. They have been fried to hell and back. These are without a doubt the driest most tasteless chicken wings I have ever had . Not even the slightest hint of them caring about the food they are selling.

*And finally the marinated pork ribs. This was the worst of the lot. Most of what was served up was off cuts, i think I got one actual rib bone in the lot. This was once again dry and tasteless being that this was the first thing I tried to eat I don’t know how it was the coldest. I wouldn’t give this food away for free this should have all been put in the bin (maybe a few days ago) and started again. I cannot understand how a “chef” in the kitchen was happy to sell this to anybody. May I suggest a change of career as you clearly don’t care about food any more

I have eaten a lot of good food and a lot of bad food. So congratulations you gave me food that was so bad It made me write my first food review.

Delicious and wide variety of meals. Staff were friendly and engaging and happy to answer questions on meal ingredients. Catered for vegetarian and non vege members in our party. Great prices on meals. Will definitely be going back on a regular basis.
Matt
Great variety of Asian foods, along with Gluten free and Vegetarian options. Spare ribs as an entree and had the Garlic Hot Plate with pork as a main and it was delicious!!!

The ribs were smaller than I expected but it was an entree so it wasn't too bad, the two Sauces with the ribs were great, very tasty.

The garlic hot plate was big! Big in size and big in flavour. You could really taste the garlic in the stir fry. It also came with rice and roti.

The roti seemed a bit on the flakey pastry side but that did not let down the meal.

Everything was reasonably priced for the size and quality they were. I do recommend this place again!
Duncan Galletly
I was surprised. After trawling Jackson street for the best Tom yum and thinking it was k sing, I'd left Buddha stix till last simply because it looked so unlikely. Modern European cosy and no hint of ethnic authenticity. Usually it's the other way round but after two seafood soup attempts at each place Buddha stix came out on top. As a nod to non authenticity they call it simply seafood soup but whatever it's name it's delicious.

The service on each visit was brilliant - fast and friendly - the ambience warm and cosy.

Recommended

Wow! Buddha Stix has really improved since my previous experience 2 years ago.

We chose to celebrate a family birthday here last night because the location is handy and we're all fans of South East Asian cuisine. Service is lovely and friendly without being 'too much', the atmosphere was buzzing, and most importantly: the food was delicious. Everyone enjoyed themselves and we all left happily full.
Saleshni Gounder
Been here so many times and they always have excellent service and really yummy food. Always end up going to buddha stix when I plan to go out for dinner.
Rwarmour8
The food was very poor! 3 of us and we were each very disappointed. Pork balls were rubbery and tasteless, only the chilli sauce added any spark and that was clearly bottled crap. Green Curry with over cooked pork and under cooked vegetables. Salad well over seasoned and noodle dish was soggy and well over cooked.
Staff great good service and a tidy looking place.
Went home to cook something to eat.
Went here with a group of friends after trying a few other restaurants in Petone that were unable to fit us in without a booking on a Saturday night. I had never heard of the place but a few friends had been here previously. I was impressed by the design and didn't even feel like I was in Wellington. A friend said that she had the lamb shank mussaman curry last time and that it was their signature dish. I had been eyeing it up on the menu before we came as well. We were seated fairly quickly but the waiter kept apologising for making us wait. We order some wines and they were delivered quickly. The place was buzzing with people and had a great atmosphere. Our food did take a little while but to be fair there were 6 of us and the restaurant was busy. My lamb shank mussaman curry tasted amazing, the lamb fell right off the bone and the curry itself was delicious. I did not want it to end! The roti was yum although was not much different to pastry! My friends were also satisfied with their meals and overall we had a great experience. Will definitely be returning again!!

Ordered takeaway fried chicken entree , nasi goreng and fish curry and roti.paid $54 , I could have got a lot better tasty food at a local takeaway.the roti was the pre made ones you buy at indian supermarket , food was tasteless and soggy.wouldn't go again
Epicurious Nomad
Good food - pleasant service. Smart looking dining room. Nice to have proper glassware in an Asian restaurant. Great steamed fish. Not so great chicken with chilli as it tasted of Fish Sauce! Not what I want with chicken. Never the less, the rest of our meals were solid and fresh!
Amy Copland
I often come here for take away and it always great food but tonight i ordered stirfy chicken and egg noodles No.19 on the menu. When I got home I found it was inedible. It was as if the top had come off the soy sauce bottle ( the dark salty kind) and had drowned the noodles. I took it back as I was gagging with the salt. The chef said he always made it like that but did offer another dish which I accepted.
Damage
Pretty decent food here.
I had the pork larb and was very satisfied.
The dishes were very big.
I had an entree of spare ribs which weren't that good but hey what can ya do.
We had a group of about 13 and there were a few hiccups, like the wrong meal. Also thought the wait staff were a bit inexperienced but that didn't really detract to much from the overall experience.
Good value for money, would go back.
Rajiv Ram
Awesome place.. Lovely ambience and great food. Always wondered why this place is always so crowded. Got the answer as soon as we tasted the food. Only thing not-so-good about the food was the roti, which was ready to eat stuff warmed up. Overall an excellent experience
Sheila
Loved it great food and great service, everything was served quickly and it tasted great, will definet go back soon
Renée Telfer
Was very excited to come back here for dinner - but wow were we disappointed, has the chef changed? We went especially for a birthday as the request of the birthday boy to get his favourite lamb shank massamun - he got the two large lamb shanks - they were fatting, chewy, not falling off the bone and full of gristle. My chicken larb which I expected to be fresh and fragrant was just full of chunky cut red onions (and i LOVE onions) but this was crazy, it took over every mouthful, I couldn't taste any fresh herbs like a good larb should be full with. I can still taste the onions this morning! yuk! Also the prawn Vietnamese salad was ordered and the diner of this meal also said there was far too many onions and barely touched it. The deep fried spring rolls, gurry puffs etc all tasted like old fat, not the nice crisp clean flavours we are use to. The red curry was basic - but the red coconut curry soup was apparently delicious, so that was a bonus that one of the table of 6 was happy. Wont be coming back in a hurry at all.

Picked up a take-a-way the other night to take back to my motel.

The food was great.

Ordered a Chicken Pad Thai from a very friendly Non Thai gentleman.

Waited a short time, I noted the restaurant was quite busy, this was a Tuesday.

The meal was a very generous size, very tasty, LOTS of chicken.

I am going back tonight for more - Yum.

We love Buddha Stix
Liz Oconnor
Friendly and attentive staff. Large portions - the Prawn Laksa is fantastic and lots of prawns in it! I couldn't eat it all so had to take some home. BYO wine only.
Nick Hughes
Have been going there regularly over the past couple of years & have really enjoyed the meals until now.
Lost our booking.
Dirty tea cups which had to be changed.
Waited 20 minutes for our mains when at that time it wasn't that busy.
One main had far to much soy & the other was a glutinous mess of noodles, etc.
Total cost $71 & have had better at a takeaway for half the price.
Won't be going back again which is rather sad as it once was great.
Has there been a change of cooks or maybe a change in ownership?
Wallace Tulloch
They make a great green curry and my wife had a great Pad Thai however the thing I don't like about the place are the acoustics are absolutely shocking. You might as well eat your meal without saying anything because you can't hear the person next to you.
Imogen
Went here with my partner and ordered two Pad Thai (one chicken and one tofu).

The service was excellent - extremely friendly and helpful staff. Food came out very quickly, and staff were quick in removing glasses and bringing drinks.

The dinners were excellent. Tofu seemed a little undercooked, but nothing major. Very good Pad Thai!

Will definitely be dining here again, and highly recommended.
Danielle
I went here with 3 others and a baby last night and was very impressed. I had mucked up the booking, but they were very accommodating and still managed to fit us in and gave us a bigger table so we could park the pram. The service was fast and efficient and the food was wonderful. Big tasty portions that came out really fast, not one of us had anything bad to say about any of our dishes, they were faultless. Place was really busy, fun and clean. The only thing i would say they could improve is the menus, they are getting a bit old and tatty but that's really just a minor nit pick. I will definitely be back!
Emma W
Had a nice meal here late last year, professional service, tasty food and good portion sizes for the price. I like the variety in the menu but am sure there is something for everyone.
Linda Dwyer
Been for dinner at buddha stix twice in the last 2 weeks and going again tonight. Great food at a great price, we do the order for the number of people and share as tasting plates. Awesome food great decor, does get very noisy when busy, but that is the same in almost any good resturant, great service, and yummy food. I am a fan!
Rowan Ingham
Our recent second visit was as good as the first a few months prior. The staff are very friendly and obliging, the service quick, the food excellent, the ambiance enticing and the price - great value. This is without doubt the best Asian restaurant I have been to. For as long as this standard keeps up we will keep returning. No hesitation whatsoever recommending this eatery to all Asian food lovers.
Wayne
Hardy authentic.
If your idea of a curry is that it be mostly broccolli, cauliflower & pumpkin then search no more.
No chopsticks or even offered, asked for "hot " curry was bland to the extreme.
First & last time will be never be back, overpriced and mediocre.
Mary-Ann
My second visit to Buddha Stix I should have learnt after the first time when I swore I would never go back. But I figured two years on they must have improved. The waitress was great. The food was terrible, cold and tasteless. I had to ask that my meal be heated and still it came back cold. When we went to pay the woman at the till asked us if we enjoyed our food I said if I wanted cold food I would get it out my fridge I don't expect to pay for cold food, she then ignored us except to say how much the bill was and when she gave us the receipt she gave us a take away menu. I took the receipt and left the menu. We will never go back.
Debbie Tauvae
Our first visit to Buddha Stix and I am impressed! The food, service, atmosphere were fantastic. There was 4 people in our group and we eat out regularly and particularly love Asian influenced food. We had 4 entrees and 4 mains, everyone thoroughly enjoyed everything, I would definitely recommend this restaurant and we will also be back.
Kelsey Broughton
Very average meal , went there with a group of 16 they recommended the set menu $30 per head which said 5 mains and a entree we had seven sitting at our table. So 5 mains arrived to feed seven people very small mains we were all hungry afterwards and the meals were flavorless We ordered a Thai green curry which came in a tiny bowl was runny tasted like it was out of a tin with coconut cream watered down. And everyone said the little spare rib in the entree tasted like boot leather. Very disappointed and wouldn't recommend it. Tasted better food from a fast food Chinese and Thai take away bar.
Louise Morgan
I don't usually write reviews but I just have to share this one - we went to Buddha Stix for the first time last night for dinner and were very impressed! the atmosphere was buzzing but not over crowded, the decor was lovely, the staff friendly and attentive, the food delicious and a good size portion, good wine list and reasonable prices! I recommend that you book a table because they were very busy. Big thumbs up! We will definitely be back.
Emma
YUMMM love this place, Love the atmosphere and the food.
Chicken Satay for the Entree are devine. Pad thai is very yummy along with the nasi goreng rice. Very good. I always recommend this place to people :)
Norman Wilkins
When we booked we said one of us would have a wheelchair. When we arrived the table was convenient for access; they had expected us. We had nibbles beforehand and some of us hadn't used all the cutlery, what was used was noticed and the correct implements brought to the table. The meals were absolutely excellent, great food and really good value. The table service was also excellent and of a standard that you would normally pay a lot more for. The restaurant was packed because it obviously has a good reputation which made it noisy, but that couldn't be helped.
Claire Hughes
It did not go well right from the very start. Upon arrival I told them of my booking which I had made a few days prior. They had no record of it. To their credit they did find us a table in a good spot and quickly. We ordered our meals and they came to us in less than 10mins! Is this even possible. Mine, the Red Curry, smelled of old socks, even one of my table guests commented on it's fetid aroma. It did taste ok, though was lacking in chicken and the mix of vegetables was odd for red curry, brocolli, pumpkin, peas, bamboo shoots ... it almost felt like leftovers had been thrown in. I had requested medium heat, it had no heat at all. Then there was the roti! I had been told to avoid it, and I should have heeded the warning, it was doughy and apart from the first piece the rest remained uneaten on the plate. We went to this restaurant as we enjoy a good Thai meal and had not been before. Never again! From now on I will stick to my usual Thai restaurant in Petone - but I'm not willing to say what it is for fear it will become even harder to get a booking than it already is. A big thumbs down to Buddha Stix.

went to budda stix in late June for lunch, an amazing restaurant really very modern and stylish, menu perhaps doesn't match the décor though? or that may just be me? mixed platter to start really quite nice but ribs were strangely gristly?... mains were seafood hot plate and thai green chicken curry. seafood hot plate was lovely, but no actual "hotplate" it was served on a regular plate instead of the hot stone as it implied?... Thai green curry was really good and totally genuine but a bit too much lemon grass for my liking. service from young Chinese man was totally brilliant brisk and non intrusive and drinks were topped up regularly which was excellent.

I don't know what you're on about "Miles" as the meals are brillant here everytime we go and I wouldn't hesitate in recommending this place. Everytime we drive past it is full of people and it is probably the most popular restaurant in Petone. I'm sorry to read that your fish sauce smelt like "the back end of a dead cow", I have never once had a dish that I was disappointed with and my spouse and I go here often. I would suggest you go back and try another dish as I am 99.99% sure you will be impressed :)

We made a booking although we were held up and we were very late we were seated immediately. We had an enthusiastic young waitress, she was very friendly and entertaining. The menu was fantastic, it took us a while to choose. We decided to share our meals, starting with a combination and delicious Vietnamese spring rolls. Then we had a Musman Curry, Cashew Nut Stir Fry and then a Black Pepper Hot plate which was recommended by our waitress. They were all amazing. We even got offered to take some of the left overs which was nice. We stayed for desert and split a brownie and sticky date. All the servings were huge portions. I would highly recommend. And the bathrooms were amazing.

Food was great, staff were friendly, restaurant was nice and warm. However...

Went here with my partner and our parents as they were meeting for the first time. Not the best choice of restaurant if you're planning on having a conversation where you can actually hear eachother as it's very noisy. Apart from that, very good.

I recently had the good fortune to be told by friends about this newish restaurant in Petone. We immediately liked the look of buddha stix. Quite trendy and nicely fitted out. We did not have a booking, but being a Saturday night we were told that we didn't need to book but when we got there it was quite full but the staff organised us a table and seated us immediately. The menu was great. The service was quick and friendly. The were lots of options for main dishes, with curries, laksas, stir frys etc. We ended up staying for desert only let down was we had to chase a waitress down to order dessert but we were enjoying ourselves so it was no problems, there brownie was great and a huge serve. Would recommend!!

I recently had the good fortune to stumble upon this newish restaurant in Petone. I had a couple of friends visiting and we basically drove up Jackson Street to see what was on offer. We immediately liked the look of Buddha Stix. Quite trendy and nicely fitted out. We did not have a booking, but being a Sunday night we were seated immediately. There were already about 4 other tables there which I always think is a good sign. The menu was great. We started with the usual spring rolls, curry puffs and satay sticks. The service was quick and friendly. The were lots of options for main dishes, with curries, laksas, stir frys etc. We had a curry, stir fry and noodle dish. Once again they were great! We ended up staying for desert (not something we would usually do at a Thai/Vietnamese rest), there brownie was great and a huge serve which we shared amongst the three of us! We certainly would go back, and in fact did a couple of days later with some other friends who also enjoyed the experience of Buddha Stix. Would recommend!!

Entree was nice but main was absolutely disgusting.

Thought it was just mine, but also my partners....it smelt (I am not exaggerating) like cow manure (being polite here).

We complained...to be told the smell was the fish sauce..Hmmm weird given I ordered a chicken stir fry. Who on earth wants fish sauce that smells like the back end of a dead cow in their chicken stir fry? Both our meals smelt putrid.

We asked for a discount on our meals (needless to say we weren't going to eat them)...but no go.

Do not go to this restaurant.....one of the worst I have ever been to ( and I have been to many!).

Good restaurants in Petone are sadly lacking....

Buddha Stix is a buzzing little place, we arrived at about 7.00pm on a Friday with no booking but the advised that we could have a drink at the bar and there would be approximately a 20 minute wait - didn't mind this as we were silly enough to think that we would walk straight into a table. After about 15 minutes we were lead to a table (great timeframes given).

We started with a combination entree to share which was fabulous and then moved onto the Garlic Seafood Stirfry and the battered fish with soy sauce. Both meals were really big and they came with lots of rice. The fish was a bit of a let down as it was a little dry but the sauce was great. The seafood stirfry lacked in flavour and given that we had asked for extra prawns (which you are charged $4.00 for) we expected there to be more than 3 in the dish! However, the charge for extra prawns was removed when we mentioned the amount on paying.

So would I return? Yes I would for tasty entrees or tasting plates, but not to keen on delving into the mains again.

We found this when a local Thai restaurant couldn't take our booking and we looked up a review of Petone restaurants. WE were taken with the review and rang up and booked on the strength of it. It was great - friendly service, no problems with any questions or requests for changes to the set menu for 6 to accommodate an 11year old. The waitperson (one of a couple who was involved with our table), happily explained the nature of each dish and the one person who had dietary restrictions was easily able to choose a satisfactory plate. Memory for our BYO wine was good and requests for extra cutlery no problem. The restaurant was pretty busy for most of the time we were there but there was no pressure to change our rate of eating and no sense that they didn't have enough time. And the food was good - big variety enough to satisfy both Thai cuisine fans and those for whom it wasn't familiar, more than enough accompanying rice. Big plus - a mix up in understanding of where the entrees fitted in the menu was explained, then we were charged at the lower rate.

We will go again and may never try the other highly recommended Thai restaurant in Petone.

Tues, 29th November 2011. When we were first shown the menu there was a bit of confusion. The set menu was for up to 5 people but we thought it was a set menu for each person.
But after we cleared that up we ordered, and a really nice girl got us some drinks, and within 15 mins our food was here. It tasted divine!
I liked the fish dish in a kind of sauce, and the hoi sin sauce dish with lots of veg was really tasty. There was a green curry dish which was abit hot for us so the kind waiter took it to the chef who put some cream in for us to cool the spice down. How nice. But overall we had an amazing night, great atmosphere, great food and great staff.
I definately would go back again. And the set meal was only $28 and me and my husband shared, which was plenty for both of us. Awesome!
A++
