Review Brew'd Boulcott - Lower Hutt

Love coming here, always good food. Had live music too (Friday night). Friendly staff. I am part of the social club and for my birthday I got a free meal so we went here last night. My partner got the half chicken it was yum and I got the pork belly swapped mash for chips, the apple slaw was amazing! We got the Mac and cheese bites as an entree, we ate most of the bites before I took the pic.

Went on a Friday night. Had live music which was really good and created such a great vibe. I had the pork belly which was very good the jus was excellent. The staff were so very kind to swap out the slaw for a green salad for me. The only thing I could say to improve the dish would be for the pork belly crackling to be crisper as it was a bit rubbery rather than crisp. The fish on the fish and chip meal was very stodgy and not very nice. The calamari was delicious but was expensive for what you received. The Mac and cheese bites were very tasty. The garlic bread was OK it was just weird how it had balsamic reduction all over it. The mocktails I thought were not worth it they didn't taste like anything other than juice and think they could definitely be improved. The pasta meal lacked a little and didn't have alot of flavour or pulled beef which was dissapointing. The staff were very friendly and nothing was an issue would go again.

We had an enjoyable night out. My husband said his hamburger was the best he had ever tasted, really delicious. I had the Ceasar salad, beautifully presented and so tasty. Wonderfully relaxed atmosphere and great service. Would recommend.

Had a great time on our valentines dinner. Staff was amazing and the food tasted delicious. To top it off the cocktails were so tasty.

Opposite Hutt Hospital. Nice boutique beers and a HB Chardy for my wife. We didn't dine so hence no comment. Food smelt good.

First family dinner with just us and the kids, Pranay was very accommodating and friendly with our young ones even managed to get a high 5 out of our very shy 2 year old. Food was yummy and decent sized portions. Left feeling nice and full 😇 thank you!

Excellent. Been here 3 times now and food always fab. Kids menu is so great with them putting together own pizzas or hotdogs. Were more than willing to cater to dietary requirements making adaptions to sides etc.

This is a great local bar with amazing decor, very friendly staff and the food was excellent. We had the seafood chowder and a cheese burger which was prepared very well and great tasting pub food.

Great establishment, superb food at reasonable prices. The team is lovely and greatly personable and I find myself enjoying every second I spend there. Would greatly recommend to anyone in the mood for great food, great people and great service ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The selection of craft beer is excellent as is the food. The young guy serving us could do with a little more training. The open steak sandwich was awesome.

We had a wonderful time, food was awesome, service was on point. We will definitely be back soon. xoxo

Just had the WOAP burger (The Revolution) and it was delicious. Quick service, place gets busy so you may need to book in advance. Dessert was just as good too, Thursday 2 desserts for $18 .

Been here many times. Food is always excellent, and there is a wide variety of beer/wine/spirits available. Staff are friendly and helpful, and provide very good service

Great casual place for a drink and/or dinner. Food was very good. Our group had a selection of different meals and all were enjoyed. Excellent cooked Steak, Pizza, Lamb. We will be back

Steak and cheese pie had the most delicious sauce especially after coming from Australia. Some pieces of steak were a little tough so that's my only critique. The carbonara minus mushrooms (as requested) was tasty. Love the blueberry cider!

Really welcoming, friendly staff, great food and service. We had a lovely evening. Thank you so much.

The lamb rump is very poor, considered ram lamb, and highly advise not to order. Rest of meal was ok.

I took my daughter here for her birthday dinner tonight. The food was good, but the service was amazing! The team at Brew'd went above and beyond to make this a special night for her, from taking photos for us to singing happy birthday and even fixing a broken candle on her cake. Well done guys! We all had a great time :)

Everything was delicious. Our party of 4 were all very happy. Great service. Well worth the price. I was surprised at how filling and enjoyable it was.

The staff here are super friendly and welcoming. I ordered the lamb with carrot puree. The meal was avergage, as it lacked seasoning and flavor. Their panna cotta however was amazing! I wouldn't necessarily return here, unless I ordered the dessert only.
Marcus Makiteiaa
Great customer service, the environment had a good comfortable feel alongside the music. Food was a breath of fresh air, however the only downfall I encountered was the desert I ate, tasted like diabetes on a plate still nice flavours..
👍👍👍👍
Dan Herlihy
Great vibes, lovely staff and a good selection of beer. Needs a new chef though. An absolute shocker for meals ie: order the pork belly which was dry and not crackled. A pity because it's such a great place.
Sharon Harvey
Ordered the Creamy mushroom medley with a side of bacon, which I enjoyed. Only negative was the bacon was slightly over cooked. Customer service was really nice and coffee was good.

I love going to Brew'd Boulcott, it's a great local and the kumara wedges are amazing. It can get pretty packed on a Thursday and Friday so I always like to make a booking!
Mike
We had an impromptu lunch here before an appointment at Hutt Hospital. Service was friendly and efficient, food was quick, tasty and reasonably priced. They also have a reasonable selection of craft beers including a beer of the week: today Garage Project Death From Above for $5. What more can you ask for in a suburban pub?

Brew'd was a favourite place of ours once upon a time. However recent experiences suggest otherwise!

The first was the halloumi burger which I'd ordered with chicken. The burger was sent out with no chicken. I mentioned this to the waitress. She returned with a bowl of rubbery chicken which resembled scraps that not even an animal would eat. Also they got my drink wrong! Ended up with a cranberry juice instead of a cranberry, lime and soda. The only saving grace that night was the service and not being charged for the scrappy chicken.

The other week I decided to give them one more chance. Licking my chops in anticipation of my beloved burger and kumara fries, we headed on down. But WOE BEHOLD, what the?! a new menu??? Why? Why? Where's my burger? Surely there's no third world crisis of halloumi shortage, eggplant crop die off? Why fix something if it's not broken?? Nolonger was there an option of subbing potato fries for Kumara chips. Another hope shattered. So sorely disappointed, I ordered the southern fried chicken burger (out of desperate hunger and bitter resentment) The chicken was dry the sauce in the burger was odd tasting. A KFC burger would have tasted much better and I hate KFC lol. Won't come back!

Worst food I've eaten out in awhile! We ordered chicken wings and chips off the starter menu, chicken wings were baked not crunchy and had a really odd flavor! Then found rotten bone in one of the wings. Chips were still hard,I'm not sure how you can f up cooking chips? Then we had the asian slow cooked pork belly for main, pork belly was chewy as hell, crackling tasted like bone and not crackled! No Asian flavor at all, mash was flavorless and veges on the side differed from ones on the menu and we're still raw and also flavorless to the point we couldn't even eat it. My son had the kids menu chicken and chips, he wouldn't eat the chicken as it had a weird flavour and trust me he is not a fussy kid! The wait staff were amazing and didn't make us pay for any of it so that's something good about the place! Other than that I would never recommend anyone to dine here. Obviously the chef (if there is a chef) hates his job and has no care or passion for food!

It's a great place to go to catch up with friends if you don't wany to go into the centre of Lower Hutt. Food has always been great, portion sizes in comparison to the prices not so much. The service here is fantastic, though, Staff is friendly and happily try to cater to requests.

The food when the restaurant first opened was fantastic. However it seems to have gone down hill fast. The portion sizes are small compared to the big price, and the taste was ho hum, wasn't bad, but was just in the middle. I ordered the Lamb rump which consisted of about 7 largish forks fulls of lamb, some potato mash, a sprinkle of whipped peas, and a puff pastry which looked like half a burger bun (wasn't even sure why that was included as I had no idea what to do wit it) . I would not say that was worth 28 dollars.

On top of that, my wife got in my opinion a mild case of food poisoning about 5 hours later from eating the Salmon and was up for a good part of the night. Pretty sure it was the Salmon as she didn't eat much else during the day or after that.

On a good note, the wait staff was excellent.

Would not eat at Brew'd Boulcott again. Used to be a great place, but progressively gone down hill. Went for my husband's birthday. Both shared shrimp appetiser. Husband had lamb for dinner. I had the salmon - it was the special.

Vomited in the nighttime. Hadn't eaten anything else after dinner.

Called Brew'd the next day, in the arvo after feeling better.

The front of house was very friendly, very apologetic (that's great).

The same front of house person called me back to advise what they had done to make the problem better. Her summary: They were still very sorry, they had checked to see if anyone else had reported a problem, they were going to call the supplier.

Since no one else had reported a problem, then they wouldn't resolve this any further. Piss poor response, in my opinion.

Good service but a bit disappointed in the food, very small portions for mains they were almost entrée size, dessert was very average left most of it behind.
Had been recommended to go here maybe we struck an off night..

Dined here last night with another two couples. They ordered the burger of the day...dirty sanchez, and we ordered pizza, wings, fish and chips. All of the food was delivered in generous portions. The flavour was good and quality ingredients used. Everything was properly cooked. It is nice to have the options for decent sides - at this sort of establishment (ie rocket and parmesan salad). The staff were very friendly and offered beer tastings when we arrived. The range of beers was good for a place of its size. Overall would go back again

We came last night 16/7/15 booked a table for 10. When we arrived we were shown to our table and asked if we wanted any drinks. It was fairly busy for a Thursday night, which is always a good sign.
We ordered some starters, I had the garlic bread which I shared with my hubby. $7 but it said a baguette and it wasn't. More like normal bread cut into triangles. Nice though.
I ordered the mushroom tagliatelle $18.90 with added chicken for $3 extra. I really wanted the crispy skin salmon that's on the menu, but they have stop doing it. Oh well. The tagliatelle came and my husband said straight away "jeez the mushrooms are abit burnt" but I tried it anyway, and ate nearly all of it because I was hungry. But it did leave a charred mushroom taste in my mouth, so I didn't enjoy it as much as I'd liked.
My husband ordered the Brew'd prime beef burger $20.90 with added onion rings $2 and it was absolutely massive. Hahaha He loved it though. My mother in law had the fish and chips which looked really good and my son's girlfriend ordered a pizza which looked very good too.
For dessert I ordered the creme brulee and it was good! Very good!
The service was perfect, the atmosphere good, yes it was a good night. But I won't be having the tagliatelle again. We will be back.
Carpark round the back too. Bonus!

Always go here for lunch or steak night and I'm never disappointed with what I order and it's something new every time. Highly recommend to anyone looking for filling meals!!

We went here tonight for a family dinner. We walked in with great expectations only to find we had to eat our meals all crammed in bar stools. We ordered the garlic bread which is extremely over priced an down right not worth the amount we paid for it. I had 1 bite and was disgusted. The kids mains came out very disappointed with the spaghetti & meat balls, our little one didn't eat it all which tells us he didnt like it. I orderd the pork belly very bland, no flavor my partner orferd the chicken basket which was a half chicken not roasted as the menu said. Absolutely disgusting. We will not return to this place nor will we recommend it to anyone. A serious look over the menu is definitely needed and prices to change for what is given. Honestly not worth it

Do you know how hard it is to find a restaurant in Lower Hutt that offers a decent Shiraz, how hard can it be? Thank you Brew'd, the Nugan Estate 3rd gen Shiraz is gorgeous.
Definitely agree with other comments here, Brew'd is well fitted out, other places would do well to take a leaf out of their book. The music makes for a good atmosphere, and the staff provide excellent service, always friendly and attentive.......and, children are well catered for. It is always a good sign if we can dine without the archetypal "when are we going home, I'm bored" phrase chiming in after 15 minutes.
The menu is nostalgic Pub Grub with something to suit everyone. One of my weaknesses is definitely a good burger which they offer a fabulous range, including a couple of Monster burgers - these things are huge!
The Baked Brie is also worth a mention, unlike it's deep fried counterpart which can be found in other restaurants, this one is flavourful, warm, gooey, lovely to share alongside bread n dips on a cold dark Wellington evening!
Love the Schnitzel and the Pineapple Lump Cheesecake too :)
Staff were nice. Everything arrived fast etc. The food was reasonable pub food although a little average and uninspiring. Portions are large and venue pleasent.

Fantastic atmosphere and a great meal. I had the pork belly which was cooked to perfection and my friend had the pasta which was delicious. Would love to go back and try the deserts sadly we had to be somewhere so missed out. Great service too

I really would like to give a higher rating as the decor atmosphere and service and food quality were all above average but unfortunately I base the majority of my rating on the food I'm eating and that's it so The Brew'd salad was average like you would make at home really and the pork burger had the potential to be a great burger but the 2 tiny strips of pork belly (I would guess each strip of pork belly was about 30grams) hidden in the depths of nice fresh salad made feel like I was eating a $21+ vegetarian burger for 80% of the burger, the fries Were very nice

March 2015 - This place ticks all the boxes - great decor, friendly & attentive staff, affordable value for money prices, awesome music and great food. The menu is changing to retro next week so I will be going back! We started with the breads and dips for two - garlic loaf & thin roti with capsicum & beetroot dips - yum! Hit the spot! Then we both had the 250g sirloin with fries, salad & garlic butter. The steaks were cooked perfectly. All the desserts appealed but we finally settled on Eton mess & strawberry pannacotta. I have no complaints about the place at all. It was a dining experience worth repeating.

April 2015 - Went back tonight to try the 'new'menu - had the chicken wings which came with mayo and a celery garnish. Ordinarily, I love the hottest of hot sauces & the smelliest of blue cheeses, but it's good I also like celery. There were 8-10 wings served in a plastic basket. The chicken was cooked perfectly, however completely inedible due to the hideous buffalo sauce they were drenched in. After just 3 I couldn't eat anymore, so resorted to the celery dipped in the mayo. Even worse - the blue cheese mayo looked, smelled & tasted like vomit. Hubby had the schnitzel - he said it was like card board & the coleslaw lacked dressing. My rating for this meal is '0'. When settling the bill & being asked how the food was, I said the sauce was awful and perhaps needed a rethink. The cashier said that someone else had said the same yesterday. There's a hint there maybe ... lose that horrid sauce! It's just not a very nice flavour at all. I'd have taken a photo but the room was so dark the camera on my phone couldn't see anything.

Our evening was like an episode of Fawlty Towers. I booked on Saturday morning for that evening .It was our daughters birthday. I ordered a goat burger , but there was no goat available they had sold out. . Apparently they were nearly out of burger buns as they had had a very busy night, it was 7.30 on a Saturday night. We all ordered our meals, they eventually arrived. They were nice but not amazing. In the meantime 3 elderly people at the table finished their meals, one went to pay and came back smiling, she told her friends " they didn't charge us for our wines" (more on that later). We tried to order desserts. My daughter wanted Eton Mess, they had sold out, My husband wanted the crumble, they had sold out. We ordered 3 Lavendar brulees, only to be told they didn't have any. However they did have vanilla brulees. We ordered quickly before they sold out, after all it had been a busy night. It was now 8.15! one hour later and being the only people still there, my husband asked how much longer dessert would be. Half an hour before a second waitress had approached us to ask if we wanted to order dessert. Ggrr!Unbelievable, THEY HAD FORGOTTEN THEM!!. We gave up, they took our drinks off the bill, we paid and headed to McDonalds to get chocolate sundaes. I waited in the car and looked at the bill we had just paid.Now.... remember the 3 elderly people who were so excited because they hadn't been charged for their wines? ... that would be because we generously paid for them. 1 chardonnay and 2 Savs!!!we drove back to the restaurant, they had just closed, after all it was late, 9.30 on a Saturday night. They let my husband in and refunded us for the wines. My husband told them we had trouble with the meal as most of what we wanted had sold out. The manager said " its been a busy night and it is late" really????To top it off he said they no longer had lavender brulee because people complained they tasted too much like flowers. !! Just a thought.. take it off the menu.We were offered a free drink next time we went there. I'm not game to risk it.

Went there with a group of six, staff very freindly, great range of beers, we ordered starters and mains, the crumbed prawns where full of flavour and the main schnitzel was cooked perfectly, others had a open burger, pulled pork and fish and chips, all enjoyed and we left feeling fully contented.
the meals are a decent size and priced reasonibly.
recommend highly.
Pays to book a table as this is becoming more popular

This place has been well fitted out. The furnishing colour scheme is not quite my taste.
The menu has potential, but based on the lunch we had here the food needs to improve from the pedestrian level we experienced.
Staff pleasant and I will pay another visit in due course. The above review was based on a visit a few weeks back, have updated as per my comment and added some photos from my most recent visit

Have been 3 times. Eggs benedict very yummy though more sauce would have been nice. Second time beef schnitzel which was prepared well and the sauce was better. Third time ordered beef again and was disappointed, do not like paying for gristle and the crumbed mix was thick and meat chewy. Could have been different chefs but they need to prep better and remember eating out for most of us is a treat. Dont ask customers how it was if you are not going to change anything! Wait staff need to double check they have orders correct.
How about a change of menu now - try 3 egg vege of your choice (seasonal) with cheese omelet with a grilled tomato and a sourdough slice of garlic bread with chilli sauce in a little jug, or mince patty melt with swiss cheese on sourdough, wedges with bacon/cheese for examples or a yummy Caesar salad with croutons.
Make seasonal brews - eg mulled wine or cider.

Handy place, service very good. Went for lunch, all very large options, no small dishes to order for a lighter lunch. Ended up ordering a poached egg on toast with a strip of bacon. Not what I was expecting. The Pinot Noir on tap needs aerated as it was tart - or order for the bottle instead. Dinner menu looked good as it offered a variety of sized options.
