Review Curry Heaven Petone - Lower Hutt

Dave Whitmore
We dine at Curry Heaven normally once a month. The service is always very good and the curry is the best in the Hutt. They do the best heat in the Hutt as well. Prices are very good, BYO and never need to book. ** 2 Nov 2013 - Now under new management and the meal was superb. I would rate even better and service excellent. Try it, we were very impressed.

Me and my daughter had a lovely meal, very reasonable priced. Recommend this to any one who enjoys a lovely curry with good flavours.

Wide variety of dishes. I had Lamb Malabari. The lunch portion for $11 was enormous! I took half of it away for later. Clean surroundings and polite staff.

We traveled across NZ Islands in November 2011. As being big fans of the Indian cuisine and staying at Lower Hutts Top10, we stopped at the curry heaven to have dinner. We had the chicken tikka masala and the chicken tariwala. Very good. Also nice: the naan basket.

Went there a few weeks ago, with two mates. Really good curry. Maybe the best in town. It also stayed in my stomach well. Lolz.

Love their Malai Kofta and breads. Good quantities too. Thanks to Curry Pot, I don't miss restaurants in India anymore.

Easily my favorite curry in Petone, consistent and able to reliably produce requested spice level every time!

Best Indian my friend and I have ever had! Navrattan Korma was perfect, honestly best korma I’ve ever had (I order veg korma all the time) . Packed with fresh vegetables, flavour, creaminess and a bit of heat (chilli)! Was perfect. Palak Paneer was also really good. Entrees onion Bhaji was amazing and crisp and paneer tikka was full of such flavour! Garlic naan was one of the best naans we’ve ever had. Garlic naan wasn’t oily, very generous size, sprinkled with coriander and fluffy. I’ve been here 4 times so far and it has never disappointed!!! My friend and I are sad we’re leaving the country to go back to Melbourne (which also has some amazing Indian but nothing compared to this!)

Really yummy, one of my few fave places to eat curry! I also like the fact they have a kids butter chicken option for the children instead of buying main meals they won’t eat!

Petone's one stop curry shop - don't bother going to any of the other Curry Houses on Jackson St, these guys just do it better.<br/>Thick, creamy sauces paired with delicious protein and vegetables, their naan is fluffy and light, yet rich and full of flavour.<br/>True homestyle curries - at the same cost as other, subpar restaurants.

Beautiful food and quick service. Some good vegan options (excellent biryani) and great value wines & beers too. Excellent value overall and a nice quiet setting. Would recommend

I went to this restaurant 1st time with my friends. I ordered Chicken biryani which was mouth-watering and so delicious. I craved for good biryani in town but couldn't find any better restaurant. I am in love with your food. Service is also quick. Keep it up!!

Have always LOVED this restaurant, and am so happy they have changed their name back! I am a Butter Chicken lover and this place makes AAMAZING butter chicken, always has! And the Naan is fluffy and fresh, deeelicious. Would highly recommemd if you are looking for a good curry in Petone.

Stopped in for a takeaway, I ordered the Kheema Dosa (just thought I'd be daring and order something random).<br/>I loved it! So much flavour! Took me back to my time in India :) <br/>Will always come here when I'm in Petone!

Went here for lunch the other day. They have a great really inexpensive lunch menu. Had the vegetable thali and the rogan josh both were really flavour some and a great portion for lunch time. Will be back for sure.

Whilst this restaurant has changed hands and recently some of the staff have also left the food continues to be superb, don't sit by the door though, it doesn't close and many people leave it open :(<br/>The meals are a good size. and the Okra (Bhinda) Masala as well as the Eggplant  (Baingan) are absolutely delicious as is the unimaginative sounding Mixed Vegetables, a vegetarian delight. Yum

I go here every two weeks. It is GOOD Indian food at ok prices. The takeaway price is a bit better. The service is lovely. There is a Nepalese girl who is our front that is super friendly. I go back just to see her. You can BYO at a stupidly cheap price. The food is always big enough to take some home!

We had a group of 9 and went there after reading good reviews about food. Was not disappointed. The service was great, it wasn't busy on a Thursday night though. We shared nearly all the dishes between us for entrée one tandoori and two mixed platter were good enough for us. I liked the Lamb Madras specially and it was hot spicy.  With the entertainment book, worked out very economical - $24 (for entrée and main) - will go back with my team again :) and thanks for the good night
Caroline
This is our favourite Indian restaurant - lovely location, decor/atmosphere and fantastic food. They have great onion bhaji - and sizzling tandoori platter! I always have vegetarian curry or Dosa, try the egg dosa its reaaly nice we try and go at least once a month - great service and great value as you can share main courses.

Went to Curry Pot with a group of friends celebrating a Birthday and we all really enjoyed the food. I personal got the Mango Chicken (Medium) which was delicious. The service was great, and I accidentally broke a glass but there was no fee. <br/>Great food, great prices, great service! I highly recommend :)<br/><br/>Cheers for the good night

Went there last night with my girlfriend as my mate recommended. At first, we couldn't find the place as they have changed the name to Curry Pot now. Well, we were greeted by friendly wait staff and given the choice of a corner window seat we shared an entrée, Tandoori platter, I’ll bet most places just heat them up but not this restaurant because it was simply amazing. As soon as we were finished with our entree it was cleared and the mains were bought to us!<br/><br/>For mains we ordered Chicken Chettinadu and Lamb Roganjosh absolutely lovely food plus the music was really really nice , in the end we ordered the yummiest Indian drink mango lassi.<br/><br/>Now it's my turn to recommend this place to anyone who enjoys real rich Indian food, excellent customer service and a kick-back relaxing evening. <br/>chur

Visited here with a group of 12 (pre-booked etc) for hands down the most average dining experience I've ever had. The restaurant was perhaps half full with most dinners having finished their meal. The decor is old and very 70s. While it doesn't smell, it looks musty and visiting the toilets requires going outside (the toilet could use being kept cleaner -this wasn't end of day mess but built up grime. I'd shudder to see the kitchen....). We all decided to share the banquet at $30 a head. It took an hour for the starters to come out. The Samosas tasted only of chili. While they weren't overly spicy, chili was clearly the predominate spice used and nothing else came through. The chicken however was tender and juicy. And then it was another hour wait for the mains. During this time, we had to request water three times before receiving it (there were now 6 other diners in the restaurant and two staff reading the paper). No one was asked if they'd like another wine or beer. We had ordered a selection of medium and hot curries and I added a Prawn Vindaloo. What was the point? The heat level was the same and everything in a tomato base tasted the same -tomatoes cooked with a pinch of chili. Absolutely no spices or herbs seemed to even pass over the pots. If you're going to keep me waiting two hours, your food had better taste like it came from the hand of god. For an extortionate price $100 for two, I expect much, much better. Frankly, I cook better curry at home out of a jar.

New owners and just had a meal there tonight. That was the best Indian meal I have had ever and Saagwala Indian hot does not get any better. Flavors stunning and heat spot on. Service great and total meal cost under $50 for 2. Cannot fault.

The chicken tikka to start with was lovely and so were the dipping sauces. The spring rolls however were not!, not sure they wern't bought in and they were only lukewarm. Popadoms, as dodgey as all other popadoms in New Zealand, weird weird weird!! Pataks style popadoms all the way!!?? Ordered Lamb Goan curry and Lamb Kadai for mains, very very good, really good flavours and tasted authentic too. Peswari Nann also very good. Would definitely go back. Despite a couple of expected disappointments.

I had a takeaway yesterday, Palak Paneer, and this was the worst Indian curry i've ever had. This was a very bad experience at an Indian Restaurant.... I will never come back... food was terrible... there were uncooked onions in that curry.. and like 70% onions and 20% Palak. I am an Indian, and I know very well how to cook Palak Paneer. Food was not worth eating at all..... I don't care, hows the customer service... when I can't enjoy my food... if you guys were not ready to prepare this takeaway on time or cook well. You should have ask us to order something else, instead of giving us that food.

We came here for dinner and it was fantastic. I had the butter chicken (mild) and my wife had the chicken madras (medium). My grandmother had the Curry Heaven Special. The chicken was cooked absolutely perfectly. The lamb in the special was also perfect. The flavours were all excellent and the naans were the best we'd ever had. <br/><br/>Would come again.

This is mine and my partner's fav restaurant. Whether you dine in or takeaway it is always 5 stars. Excellent efficient service and the food is incredible every time. I recommend the platter for two. Will definitely be going back! =)

Very welcoming, child friendly, fantastic service. The owner has a great sense of humour and recommendations. The Chicken Khara Masala is too die for..."A dish that words cannot describe"...very authentic flavours. Curry Heaven is a new favourite for our family.

Woohoo, as good as it gets! When it comes to curry this truly is curry heaven. Whether you get takeaways or dine in, you are in for a treat. Staff are awesome and if you like hot but not fire-out-your-mouth hot, ask for kiwi hot. They will know what you mean and get it A+++ every time. Super delish and we recommend the appetizer for two. It is amazing with a variety of things to try and beautiful dipping sauces.<br/>Perfect in every way, we live for this place and bow down to the chef.
Martin Dutton
Always fantastic service whenever we go in there. Curries always freshly cooked to perfection and always steaming hot.....I would definitely recommend any of the lamb dishes! We go to Curry Heaven with our 18 month old, and he is always treated well no matter how much mess he creates for the friendly staff. 5 stars :-)

Great curries, friendly staff

Great service, I had the buffet and ut was perfect. Loved the flavours and they don't hesitate to bring you more when you are done. Only problem is lack of Naan; you need to order those.

My partner and i went there after we had done some building work. The service was good and the food was excellent. We made sure we got Indian Hot. Boy!! It is so hot and have no complain. The owner said how can you eat Indian Hot. We both said that was what we want, it was very nice and NO complain. Yummy!! Great value. I had an entertainment voucher but didnt used it but still find it very cheap. Good size of serving. Will definitely go there again!! :)

Butter Chicken is the best in town! As someone said, if you are in a rush this isn't the place to go but if you have some time to wait for a really good meal, go here. Have dined in and had takeaways and never disappointed.

I haven't been here for dinner but have had lunch several times. Highly recommend the butter chicken, delicious. The naan bread is always fluffy and beautifully cooked. The price has gone up a bit, it used to be about $7 for lunch but now $9.50, still good value for money.<br/><br/>The food is a bit slow getting to you so don't go there if you are in a hurry.
Currycrazy
I have been visiting the restaurant since about 6 month at least once a week for lunch, I personnly think it has the best value for money lunch in greater wellington available.<br/>The Butter Chicken is out of this world and the naan bread is always hot a freshly baked.<br/>The service is very attentive, perhaps the jokes of the owner/staff are not the best but for this cheap lunch special i am willing to cope with any bad jokes if the food is that consistant and yummy...well done

I've had great experiences here when dining with groups of 2-6 people. The food is great. Last night, with a large group, the service was appalling. The maitre d' was constantly in our faces, yet took forever to take our orders. (Still not sure why entrees and mains had to be ordered separately.) When the food eventually arrived, some meals were mixed up, a few of us didn't get cutlery (could the table not have been set beforehand?), and then there was a huge stuff-up over the bill, which was incorrectly calculated and left unresolved after a heated argument. Disappointing.
