Review Java Point Cafe - Lower Hutt

Tony Nuñez
Rather above average in cozy seating, coffee, food taste. Worth checking out. Coffee is NZ Coffee Roasters (probably in my top 8 in Hutt Valley & Petone)
Lowrona Ltd.
Wonderful! The staff were friendly & accommodating, convenient location and beautiful inside and out. Our drinks and food were served to us promptly and were all impeccable. Highly recommend pancakes they were superb. Absolutely awesome. 5 stars all round.

I had the kumara soup Monday and, though a little pricey at $14, it was Fantastic. Just the right amount of sweet and salty. The coffee was also very good, which is always nice. :-D

EXCELLENT eggs benedict (perfectly poached eggs, and a generous serving of their delicious hollandaise). They happily gave me my request of wilted spinach instead of bread (gluten-free bread was another option). The coffee was fab, too. I highly recommend it.

An oasis in the heart of Lower Hutt I took the omelette and coffee option and was not disappointed one bit . It has a cool decor with really nice comfortable chairs to relax in. Scotties Rentals is proud to recommend java point for your next visit in the Hutt.

Great food and coffee with really friendly staff.

Excellent sea food fritter. Java is a licensed cafe so the sea food went well with a cold beer!
Philip Davidson

Love the atmosphere here! The food always comes quickly and tastes delicious. Always a nice place for brunch- iced coffee is delicious. The decor is amazing.

Had breakfast there this morning with the work team. Friendly staff, good service, delicious food but most of all, a really nice setting. Nice and tidy, sun shining through the windows etc. Would go there again.

Really nice interior. Relaxing, warm and inviting. I got a basic meal (eggs and toast), but it was pretty flat. Would have liked fluffy bread and a side of anything for the $17.00. Smoothy was okay.
Octagon Pie
Best cafe in the hutt, lovely owners, amazing barista. Going to miss it! Make sure to go here and grab a coffee before they move back to America! ☹

Great atmosphere. Wonderful and fun staff. This place is the best in Lower Hutt. Ordered the halloumi and portobello mushrooms for lunch along with a peach iced tea!

Had morning tea here with a couple of friends and it was great. Good food, good staff, fast service too and a good atmosphere. I will return sometime soon. Very good.

The owners of Java Point Cafe should be so proud of their business! They worked with us on an event we had catered, they have little room for events with WiFi. Yummy, hearty salads, lots of options. Thanks, Java Point Cafe!

Sweet staff, great eats, super accommodating. We had an event catered and they stuck with us through every single step and change and handled it all with grace and aplomb. Ask about their gluten free options! And DEFINITELY try the cranberry, chicken and brie baked filo parcels. Maybe I'm just a sucker for anything with cranberries, but ridiculously tasty. Compliments to the chef and to Nancy and Steve! You guys rock :)

The menu looks impressive and the food is presented beautifully, however I feel it's a little too expensive for what you get. If you are going to blatantly advertise that free range eggs are used you need to respect the ingredients and not over-cook it. The decor is very nice and the staff attentive - because of that I am willing to go back and try a few other things (eggs Montreal, porridge & pancakes). But today, the deep fried lumpy hash browns didn't do it for me and my tea was somewhat insipid. The hollandaise sauce is a winner though :-)

Fluffy pies and great coffee. Great staff and comfy lounge. Friendly to kids as well with books and a few toys. Great eggs Benedict with loads of streaky bacon.

Decent selection of cabinet food but served 'naked', with not even a few lettuce leaves.  Had to ask for pepper and salt which is not on the tables.  Asked for chutney but they had none and only offered tomato sauce. Poached eggs on toast at $12 is dear and was served on thinly sliced wholemeal sandwich bread toast - the cheapest loaf you can get, not the 5 grain on the menu. Not acceptable and not impressed.

I have visited here a couple of times recently and have been pleasantly surprised. To be honest I had avoided the place as I remembered it from an earlier incarnation and not as it is today.<br/><br/>The decor is pleasant enough, old coffee bean bags on the walls some artworks. The style may not appeal to all, but it is what it is. There are some comfy chairs near the entrance and then your standard cafe style tables and chairs.<br/><br/>Both times I have been here the place was clearly frequented by a number of regular customers who were clearly known to the staff. However, I was greeted pleasantly and looked after by the staff.<br/><br/>My experience of the food was that it is tasty, promptly served and of a good standard. There are one or two minor niggles though, butter comes in those horrid catering portion packs, a real hate of mine; further I felt the serving of banana on my porridge was somewhat niggardly and although my poached eggs were good, part of the bacon rasher was over cooked beyond the point of crispy. I will return as I want to try some of the cabinet food, the pork pasties having caught my eye.

Decided to try this for a weekend lunch. Cabinet salads looked tempting but opted for a toasted sandwich each. They were well filled but not toasted long enough for the cheese to melt so the fillings were cold and tended to fall apart when being eaten. Coffees were great &amp; staff friendly and welcoming.

Myself and my family have been doing brunch at Java for the past 4 months and we continue to go back because we find the atmosphere and the quality of the coffee and food to be very well done and presented as well as tasty.<br/><br/>The Steve and Nancy and their staff are always smiling polite and welcoming.

We love this place. <br/><br/>We have had coffee from here 4 times and it's always of a high standard - close to the best coffee we've had in the hutt.<br/><br/>The cabinet food all looks amazing and this is what we ate on our recent visit on a Saturday morning - very impressed. Amazing scones. We didn't order from the menu but I saw items that appealed so we will definitely be returning.<br/><br/>I really liked the atmosphere and did not find the decor dated at all. We will definitely return!

Popped in for brekky on a Sunday morn. First thing I noticed is the dated decor and how overstaffed they are! The staff are either overbearing or completely vacant. The eggs benedict was served on rock hard toast which flew all over the place as we tried to cut into it. This cafe has since changed its name to Java Point with their sign in graffiti print which is just completely random when the decor is suited for older people. Not quite hitting the nail on the head.

My husband and I decided to try somewhere new for brunch last Saturday and randomly chose Whisk. <br/><br/>While the menu is limited, there is a lot of counter food to complement it. My husband ordered the big breakfast (eggs, toast, kransky, bacon, hash brown and black pudding) and I ordered the blueberry pancakes with maple/bacon/banana.<br/><br/>While, at $22.50, the BB was a little overpriced for the Hutt, both dishes were absolutely delicious. The pancakes were huge and fluffy. Coffee was above average and service prompt and friendly.<br/><br/>There are also highchairs and a small play area downstairs for those with little people, while those without can relax upstairs.<br/><br/>A great new find. We'll be back.
