Review Cafe Figg - Lower Hutt

Eileen Lui
Really loved the food here. Had the Bacon and Eggs, Truffle Omelette (this was super duper good!), Bacon and Avo Benedict, Mushroom Bruschetta (super good!!) And the Fried Chicken Waffles. Also ordered a Build Your Own Toastie. And then for dessert, the Lamington and the Chocolate Cake. Not a single dish disappointed. Service was great too! Thank you!

Cute little cafe with delicious food. Chicken and waffle is one of those sweet and savoury meals, you never thought would be a good combo. But it was!

Went for brunch today and all 3 of us ordered fried chicken and waffles and it was absolutely delicious!!! The staff were very welcoming and the service was on point and really fast. Will definitely be back!

What a delicious lunch. Staff were helpful and friendly. The outdoor area was basic but serviceable. The meal was full of taste despite my mushroom meal being vegan and gluten free. The chef may have removed the allergens but he kept in the taste! My friend really enjoyed her pumpkin filo pastry. Prices were also reasonable at $22 and $18.

Petone: Now open Friday and Saturday night for dinner. We enjoyed our meals, very tasty, service was excellent. This well-known cafe is a usual brunch and lunch place, humming majority of the time. The chicken and mushroom risotto, the other diner had a burger. Both dishes were well presented and filling.

Lovely Cafe, serving a great range of food and good coffee. The chicken feta philo was a fantastic light meal.

I love their lattes and their heated date scones are the best thing ever. Kids love their chocolate cake too. Meals I've had there are ok, nothing special.... but definitely my coffee and scone stop.

We love coming to Figg, have been coming here for years. Ownership changed hands a couple times but the service and food has always been amazing, regardless. Food presentation is top notch and very tasty.

Called in for a quick coffee and something to eat. Nice atmosphere. Indoor and outdoor seating area really good. Try it next time you're in Petone.

Looking around Petone for a bakery, we ended up stopping in for a look in Café Figg, we were not looking for much to eat and they offered a great little deal for an American hotdog and fries, this combined with Lattes fed us perfectly, and I must add that the coffee with perfect to the point I ordered a second to go.

A favourite wee cafe to visit for brunch! Can be hit and miss to get parking directly out front but Jackson Street has so much to offer that it doesn't matter! It's well worth taking a stroll down Jackson Street to stop here. Fantastic service, delicious coffee and a wide variety of food on offer! Our favourite is the mince on toast with a poached egg. Can't go wrong!

Had steak and seafood chowder on deals. Steak was delicious and look fresh. Friendly and fast service.

Wonderful spot to take a break on Jackson street. Great selection of cabinet food, nice menu and some really unique specials that change often. The staff are really friendly, made a perfect temperature hot chocolate for my child, has a great little outside seating section at the back too. Highly recommend this place.

Awesome brunch, great service, excellent coffee

Had dinner there last night - first time it had opened for dinner. Was lovely - food was really nice, good sized portions, variety to eat, and great service. Thanks for a wonderful evening 😊

Absolutely delicious, me and my partner go here quite often, never a disappointment. Excellent service and great quality food and the don’t skimp on the avocado like some places. My partner knocked his drink over and the staff were so lovely and made him a new one straight away with not complaints . 10/10 in our books, first place we recommended to friends and family.

I had mid to high expectations before arriving having read the reviews. The service was friendly, chatty and polite, the cafe was very clean, and there was a great selection of food, but my chai was luke warm. It would've been nicer hot. The smoked chicken pasta salad had 1 tiny piece of chicken and too much chunky vege. It wasn't evenly heated either. Later, the choc cake was pleasant. A tad dry but the cream helped. The music was great but with only 2 of us in the cafe at times it was a tad loud. I'd go back but would make different choices. Not a bad experience but it could've been better.

Excellent service, good food, I had the hash stack and a hot chocolate. Very filling and satisfying , so tasty , I would recommend this place as a great cafe with food options to suit all diets

Nice vibe when you enter the staff are very friendly. I had the hashstack and it was delicious. Im normally hesitant when it comes to cafes as they are generally a hit or a miss but this one hit all the notes.

There were two of us and between us the vegetable stack and one slice of plum cake was enough to satisfy.  The portions were substantial.  The plum cake enterred the realms of my all time favourite cake experiences and the vegetable stack was just so good.  My only complaints are the small size of the cafe and how closely set the tables are, with a small counter for ordering. plus I couldn't get yoghurt with the cake instead of cream.  Pretty minor things in relation to the over all experience.

Absolutely love this cafe, I go in every other week and get the same wedges they are delicious, even with a busy cafe the staff are still able to connect with the customers. I love the environment with the tree of international coins on the wall and the little sit out in the front and back. Strongly recommend this place for others.

Amazing food, quite affordable. Popped in for brunch a couple of weeks ago, was spoilt for choice. Came back to try other options and was pleasantly surprised. Eggs Benedict, Salmon Bagel, and Potato Feta Cakes are to die for. The baked lemon cheesecake is huge and delicious, along the with vast selection of other cakes. The Cafe is always busy, right from opening, so make sure to get in fast! It will be worth your while :) Thank you Figg!!

After seeing photos of chocolate cake I had to give this place a try. The cake is delicious... I even appreciated the yogurt on the side. Location is small but cute... I like the outside seating options in the front and back. The other food was decent but they have nice attention to detail in the presentation (skip the smoothy though).

A good a la carte menu, and generally good cabinet food. The odd cake is sometimes dry, but usually pretty good. However, the coffee has somewhat gone downhill since changing to their new blend. Otherwise, a nice place to catch up for lunch or brunch.

Had the BLAT and an iced chocolate and it was possibly the best BLAT I have had in a long time. The service was really quick and the waitresses were very friendly

We often walk past this place as we frequent their neighbouring café and it always looks busy. Today we decided to try it out for ourselves and our timing was perfect as not long after we had ordered the place became packed. Hubby ordered their 'famous' hash stack while I went with my ubiquitous mocha and then the muesli with fresh fruit and honeyed yoghurt to balance it out (haha wishful thinking). My coffee arrived quickly which was lovely and then out came our meals. The fresh fruit was beautiful and tasty but I thought the muesli came from a packet. The hash stack was really nice according to hubby. Service is friendly too.

Best GF options in Petone and one of the few places across wider Wellington that uses GF bread made in Wellington, it is soft and delicious! It's popular so pick the time you go, nice wee garden section out the back
Carina Chang
coffee's good, also had a chocolate cake which was huge and tasty. Spend $5.5 for such a big cake with cream, you can't find any place like this in town.

I've had coffee here before so thought we would try out the menu. Ordered a caramel latte and some wedges. Wedges took a while to come out. Coffee was good. Asked the waiter if the wedges would be out soon as we saw customers who had ordered after us being served their cooked meals. When the wedges finally came out, no apology for the waiting time and our wedges or should I say our sour cream arrived. Not too sure if this is how much sour cream is usually on the wedges but don't get me wrong I love sour cream but this was over the top. Felt disgusting after eating what seemed like just sour cream with wedges. As no one cleared our table I took the plate up to let them know it was far too much sour cream to be asked if I would like them to "scrape it off" uh no thanks. Soggy wedges? I'll pass. I suggest maybe stating that you will drown the wedges in sour cream so people can opt to have it on the side. Staff were useless.

Early on a Saturday morning looking for somewhere to eat, we found Cafe Figg open.<br/>Although tempted by the cabinet food, eggs on a potato rosti with creamy mushrooms won my vote. The portions are large. Be prepared to leave here very full. And coffee was good as well. <br/> It wasn't too busy when we arrived but as we waited for our meal more showed up. Lots of seating tho. Another cool thing to note is the photos on the wall of local places taken by a local.

I've always passed up going to cafe figg on my Sunday morning breakfasts, but this week I saw they had changed the coffee they use, from mojo to aramo coffee. Intrigued, I decided to visit here instead of my usual. Atmosphere was nice- had a couple photographs up for sale, and they had some lovely leather seats around the tables. I opted for my usual- eggs bene and long black. The coffee was... Not good. It's hard to measure up when you're sat between my two favorite coffee places in wellington (go bang and beannie) but this coffee tasted like sour ash. Disappointing. I did however enjoy the best salmon eggs bene I've ever had here. The hollandaise absolutely immaculate, and eggs poached to perfection. Although j didn't grab any of the cabinet food, it looked really good, especially the cakes- yum. All in all I will absolutely be coming back for the eggs benedict, but will be passing on the coffee next time.

Have been here a number of times but never written  review. Went today because it was possible to get a park near it and a seat in it. I had a pot of tea and the French toast with bacon, banana and maple syrup - hubby had a mocha and a beef burger. He said the burger bun was stodgy and cold, but the mocha was great. My French toast was perfect - plenty of bacon & banana swimming in maple syrup (usually there is never enough) and no icing sugar all over it, which I appreciate. For once my tea was not insipid.  Comfy chairs and cosy decor. Will go back I'm sure.<br/><br/>Here's the hubby's thoughts:<br/><br/>"The missus had a Entertainment Book voucher to use for Figg, so we gave it a shot.<br/> I had the burger, and she had the French Toast which was described as 'perfect'. My burger was underwhelming, both buns were discarded being cold and stodgy, and the innards were just the usual suspects. Nothing memorable. This was accompanied by wedges that weren't fresh or hot, nor did they have a crunch.  The music had gone past 'background' and was too loud, and she copped a displeased look from the staff when presenting the voucher at the time of payment. <br/>On the plus side, if you time it right you can score some very comfortable seats by the wall and my mocha was superb, as was her tea."

Pretty good food great portions very friendly staff members that make you feel welcome will go back again for sure the big breaky and pancakes are great so is the coffee and iced coffee !

Ordered a coffee and a hash stack. Coffee was nice and strong, proper home made hashbrowns and creamy mushrooms, was awesome! Poached eggs could have been a bit runnier but that's just my own taste.

Eating out for brunch each weekend we decided to try Cafe Figg regardless of the last review. I am so glad we did! The eggs benedict was cooked to perfection..the best we have had in the last five years of dining out for brunch! I wish I had the egg poaching ability of whomever cooked today..simply perfect..not to mention the yummy potato cake that came with it.. crunchy on the outside .soft and melt in mouth on inside. Coffee I would rate around the 8/10 mark..was a little bitter but definitely we will be going back. Keep up the awesome food and service!!

This cafe use to be fantastic, we ordered two platters. Both we absolutely B grade. I could have done better. They forgot my drink and just seemed completely disorganised. I won't be returning as there are so many good cafés in Petone now to choose from. These guys need to take a serious look at their menu and systems, if they want to survive.

Cafe Figg is my local cafe and I always seem to be drawn back despite the average food, I suppose this is because of the wonderful staff members they have there, and not to mention their fantastic coffee.<br/><br/>Menu food needs a bit of polishing up, and possibly a re-do of the menu (as it is a little bit stale and predictable).
Lizzy Pokia
I am loving the coffee and the cheese scones in the morning.

My partner and I have gone to this cafe a few times and each time we have thoroughly enjoyed the food, coffee and service. As well as the outdoor seating area with grape vines surrounding a neat sunny spot.<br/>It's a great place to catch up with a friend, not in a big group as the place has an intimate feel.<br/>The chocolate cake is beautiful!! I also loved my eggs benedict which I devoured ;)<br/>Overall a great place to visit A+

Have been a few times now, each time the food and service has been excellent. Coffee was ok - not amazing - but made up for by the delicious food. We had the beef burger which came with a side of crunchy wedges, aioli and sweet chilli sauce, and the corn fritters. The corn fritters are delish, with proper mushroom and courgettes in the batter. Thank you for a pleasant brunch. Sitting in the courtyard out the back in the sun made it so much nicer too!

Have been here twice with groups, nobody enjoyed their meal very much<br/><br/>Below average and HIGHLY overpriced<br/><br/>The fish was simply the fillets you buy from the supermarket (Frozen pre packed) , horrible <br/><br/>The beef burger was "ok" , nothing special<br/><br/>The eggs benedict was "ok" , nothing special<br/><br/>Main point being the price, the food would be fine if the price was half of what it is, however within walking distance there are several cafes with far better food for the same/cheaper $$$<br/><br/>The 2 stars are for the service, the lady behind the counter has been fantastic both times and the waiting staff in general were great.

We've been to Cafe Figg 3 times since November and each time have been very happy with the service, food and coffee.<br/><br/>Last visit was on Friday for brunch: the pancakes with bacon, banana and maple were delicious! And the bacon and eggs with home made hashbrown had by himself looked lovely too. The service was super quick, despite the place being busy, and the coffee was great too.<br/><br/>We'll be going back again for sure!

Went to Cafe Figg today for breakfast. I ordered Eggs Benedict with ham and my partner ordered Pancakes with bacon and banana.<br/>When our meals arrived, my order has been entered incorrectly and I was presented with corn fritters (which actually looked really good) . The girl serving was gone so quick and I couldn't even tell her my order was incorrect. Would have been nice when presenting them if she could have said what they were when they arrived.<br/>When my correct order arrived I didn't even get an apology it was just shoved down in front of me.. I was very disappointed. The eggs were overcooked, the muffin soggy and the ham and hollandaise sauce both cold - not nice with warm eggs. The hollandaise tasted by an instant packet mix.<br/>My partners pancakes too tasted like a packet mix also and the bacon was only just cooked.<br/>We will not be coming back!

I was disappointed as this used to be a great cafe - my friend and I went for AM tea. I asked for strong tea and it was weak as. The cheese scones were so salty they were inedible so I complained (nicely) - no action - I mentioned it again to another person still nothing offered instead of and no offer of money back. The people at table next to us didn't eat their cheese scones either. The lack of response to a legitimate complaint was poor customer service. I won't be back and doubt they will be in business long with this poor performance.

Went here that other day for breakfast, both partner and I got the big breakfast (or whatever its called). Was a nice breakfast, eggs cooked just right and served on sourdough which I love. The bacon was nice, however the mushroom was rather withered and look quite unappetising - gave this to the partner. Very quick service. Overall a good experience.
Joe Smith
really average food, due to the dried tough chicken on both of the meals.service is very friendly, hence the three stars.
Cynthia Chin
Service was good, coffee was good and had the fig breakfast. It was OK, just standard.

We tried Cafe Figg on Saturday afternoon as it is in the Entertainment Book. While the decor was nice and the staff were friendly, the eggs benedict was the worst I've ever had. The eggs were overcooked (solid yolks), the bacon was undercooked, the muffins were soggy and the hollondaise was a pale lemon yellow and tasted sour and out of a bottle of some sort. I definitely won't be going back there.
Georgina
Have been there a few times but today was the worse experience I have ever had. After explaining that I was lactose intolerant and could not have any dairy products they offered to make a Greek salad from scratch without the feta cheese - this wasn't the case. Saw the front of house take the pre made Greek salad with cheese from the cabinet and had to delivered to me after they plucked the cheese out of it leaving residue. This is what not I call made from scratch and if I ate a piece I could have had my throat swell up. Definitely will not be going there again even if my partner did enjoy his meal.
Caffeinated Weka
A small cafe with a tasty menu and good, basic selection of fresh baking. The service was prompt and the cafe interior is bright and colourful with a great lunchtime buzz.
Otago Islander
Really nice place for a hangover breakfast. The place is quite intimate (aka small) so it can be busy easily, but the breakfasts are generally well worth it.<br/><br/>The toilet represents a bit of history in that it is one of those outdoor entrance loos that were once so common in Petone.
John Cornish
Sorry Renee, you must have the wrong cafe(good clue is that you've got the coffee brand wrong for a start). The food is always fresh, delicious, and varied with generous choices for all, including vegetarian and gluten free options.I have always found the staff very friendly and obliging.
Shelley
Went here with my partner on Saturday.<br/>We were very impressed by the selection in their display cabinet and they also had a great menu.<br/>We chose to go with the Vegetable Tart...it was phenomenal...!<br/>Coffee was great too, and for dessert we went with a Ginger Almond Cake and a Blackcurrant Almond Cake - YUM! Beautifully moist and tasty :-)<br/>Great service from the team there. <br/>Would definitely go back (especially for the vege tart!) 5*+!
Tanya
Very very average food. Eggs Benedict my partner had was so bland, not enough sauce and eggs overcooked. I had mushroom, corn and zucchini fritters, it was so terrible. It was just pancake mix with a couple of tiny bits of mushrooms, and a few bits of corn. I think for $14 one can expect better. Will never go back.
