Review Abode Cafe - Lower Hutt

Key Man
Had a nice lunch here. Nice and clean, plenty of seating. Friendly staff. Meals came out pretty quickly. Great coffee. Kids meals were a good size, perhaps a tad up there in price. Adult meals were pretty good.

I went here to try their pumpkin spiced white hot chocolate and it was delicious. The lace was clean and tidy. Lots of seating and friendly staff. It has some parking outside and is wheelchair accessible.

Beautiful, fresh, healthy, clean and delicious food here. Great for kids with the play house attached. Staff even gave us a few extra chocolate fish to keep my son happy so i could catch up with my friends. Plenty of room for our pram. My fav cafe in lower hutt as it meets my needs perfectly.

I've been to this cafe more than 8 times. It’s has been a bumpy road in the first two times and later it’s turns out the cafe is not that bad at all. My wife and I enjoy a lot the keto meals and low carb menu. Well done guys.

So happy to find lovely keto food here! Friendly staff. Great place :) There was a delay with our food but the server was so lovely about it that we liked the place even more after waiting!

Always fantastic food here, we go every month or so and have not been disappointed yet. Fresh healthy ingredients, staff and cooks seem consistently passionate about food.

really nice caramel latte, but was confused as to why I had it given to me in a takeaway cup! staff were friendly, would love to return to try the food.

Abode Cafe is my weekend coffee spot. They make great coffee, have a new menu, the staff are friendly and helpful. Pop in for a visit...try the butter chicken .

Very nice food, staff seemed friendly enough. The only drawback is the expensive food!

Great staff, super fast service and fresh food. I had a bacon and egg bagel from the cabinet with coffee. Everything was simple and good.

Been here twice now with the same experience both times. No sugar free drinks in the fridge either time, wasn’t even offered water. Women behind the counter was clearly wanting to be anywhere else, not rude but pretty unhelpful. Won’t be returning!! Such a shame as it’s a great location and could be so much better.

Great place!! Had waffle and coffee just the made perfectly!! Friendly staff . Bit disappointed with hash browns as they were cold from inside, but otherwise good place to go!!

A very nice and cute little cafe slightly hidden from the main road, with pretty good service. Food items are decently priced - you pay for everything you get, good value for money. The food itself was very nice and vibrant, my steak sandwich was on point. I would defiantly come back to try the rest of the menu.

I want to start off by saying a big thank you to Professionals (which is situated next door) for the $30 voucher. Much appreciated.
I ordered a pot of English breakfast tea and a raspberry and white chocolate slice. My husband ordered a mocaccino coffee and a raspberry crumble. But we had $11 left on the voucher so we picked 2 muesli slices and a thin chocolate bar for later.
Drinks were great, and food was good. Staff were very helpful and friendly. A nice afternoon refresher.
I might have to come here for lunch one day (and I will update my review hahaha) The couple on the next table was having a full breakfast even though it was the afternoon, and it looked and smelt amazing. Might have to try that. Yum.

The Wendy house is pretty unmistakeable on the out as well as in-side of this modern, clean cafe. The orange and brown striped banquettes add to an odd eclectic interior that is reminiscent of the 70s except for the odder addition of great-grandmotherly Edwardiana in the corner.
At 12.30 it is starting to fill up - it's seemingly popular.
Cabinet food has five levels of reasonable slices, rolls and cakes. I chose a New Zealand classic cheese roll from the deep south and a cup of tea.

I'd forgotten how good cheese rolls were - a single piece of white bread rolled to encase the cheese and toasted with slight compression. It came with a good chutney. I'd have it again - in fact I've recommended it to several friends.

The range of teas is good - t-leaf tea. The only black tea however was an English breakfast tea, which I ordered. I wasn't asked about milk.
It arrived in a pot containing one of the hand filled sachets with a little jug of cold milk. The cup was cold but was thin walled China providing less of a heat sink than the standard thick cappuccino cups.
After 5 minutes it poured a pale brown, interesting citrusy flavour - good body, pleasant. On my tea scoring (see Astoria review) I gave Abode 17/30, well behind the current leader (milk crate) but close to Louis Sergeant and Clark's on 19, Kilbirnie's The Little teapot and Silverstream's The Fig Leaf Cafe on 18 and both Le Maquis and Chocolate Frog on 17.

Despite the comments of previous reviewers about service I found the lady in question to be ok - not effusive but not warranting a significant alteration in zomato score.

Basically an ok cafe with the cheese rolls and tea pretty good.

Popped into Abode for a quick coffee. The place seemed very child friendly with a playhouse to keep them busy.
The staff on the counter were helpful but gave the impression that they'd much rather be somewhere else.
There was a large choice of both counter and menu items.
The coffee was okay.

Only popped in for a smoothie after the gym but the cafe was presented well and had a lot to choose from. Our smoothies were yummy so looking forward to trying out some of the food

The coffee was excellent and our small group enjoyed the decor. The 3 star rating is due to the woman at the counter my friend referred to as 'grumpy britches'. I notice the previous review called her 'Lil Miss Unsmiley'. Thumbs up to curly and the other staff for putting up with it and delivering SMILES! and GREAT MUFFINS! Yum. Deserves 4+ stars.

Went here for a flat white today. Great coffee, shame about Lil Miss Unsmiley (LMU) though. She made eye contact with me at the till and then turned away. Props to the tall, curly-haired, friendly gentleman who took my order though.

LMU brought the coffee to my table and as I looked at her and thanked her for it, she proceeded to not look at me and ignored me completely.

Wow.

Perhaps she's new to the customer service game?

You have all the right ingredients for a great cafe but you have to serve great coffee to keep me going there. This has proved very up and down and my last visit the coffee was just not up to par. Shame as environment is so good.

Went to Abode for brunch today with a friend. I found the staff helpful and friendly. We both got the big breakfast and everything was lovely. Although I would have preferred a fresh hollandaise rather than a store bought, but it was still nice.

I would go back for sure.

hi! i booked a high tea for my mum's birthday treat. we were 30 m late, but our table was still ready for us when we arrived. The table was beautifully set, and we were treated like princesses. Service was great, food loverly, tea fine and live acousitc guitar music made the finishing touch. Would love to go again, and am recommending to friends. thank you!

I booked High tea here for a Sunday afternoon treat for my partner and I. I could not have been more disappointed!! My partner (born and bred English) asked for English breakfast tea but was given Lady grey. Which took half an hour to arrive. Partner not happy. It was a down hill ride from there. The food was shocking which i presume were leftovers from the catering side of abode. The tables were far too close together. Hearing my partner was difficult as we were stuck between tables of pensioners. The concept of a dainty high tea in a 'modern' white building was absurd. Ghastly metal tea pot/jug and English pottery....not something i would consider traditional. All and all it was terrible. I just regret not walking out as soon as we arrived.

A lovely place. Always a yummy cabinet and the slices are to die for (especially the brownie - I think it's the best I've ever had!) Great little playhouse to keep the kids occupied while I read the paper and enjoyed my beautifully made ripe coffee. Clean and friendly service. Will be back.

Great setting - shame about the service and the coffee. Appears like a great place especially if you have children in tow - but the service is just appalling, have never come across such rude cafe staff. The coffee was insipid & bitter & the food average and overpriced. Would never go back.

coffee is great, food is fabulous, great place to go for a coffee when you have kids, the playhouse is fabulous.

Booked 'High Tea' but was disappointed. Compared to other 'High Tea' environments priced at $25 per head this didn't meet what I expected.

The tea cups were lovely but the stainless steel tea pot didn't fit the image. Limited choice of tea you could have either Eark Grey tea or English tea, ours arrived stone cold, but it was replaced by a hot pot. We could see other tables that had cute tea cosy's and it would have been nice for all tables to have them.

The food arrived, we didn't receive any information about what we were eating - but it was nice, simple slices, scones and club sandwiches.
Nikki
Love it...the Food is beautiful. Coffee is great - fast service. Love it.
Andrea
Expensive coffee, badly made by a rude barista in a noisey environment. Won't be going back here in a hurry!
