Review Civil And Naval - Lyttelton

The place has got a special character to it and nice ambience. My one big gripe is, I drink sparkling wine only, and my glass of it had very little sparkle left in it. This has happened there before. It stands to reason opening and shutting up sparkling wine bottles decreases fizz. Buying in the small bottles would stop this happening. This is the reason I've left of a star.

I just love this cosy quirky place. Such great ambiance and definitely not run of the mill nor are the colourful patrons who are characters just like this character filled establishment. This is my 2nd visit in the past 4 years. I loved it the first time and this latest visit did not disappoint. The menu is not extensive but it doesnt need to be. The 4 dishes we ordered were superb! Cooked to perfection, tasty as hell! I gave the chef that feedback too. Why wouldn't you when it's well deserved. The bar service person was a little lax I guess it could be interpreted as part of the charm to be honest so be prepared to be pro active to get what you want. Highly recommended

Small cafe-style restaurant on the Main Street in Lyttelton. Popped over to grab some lunch on New Years Day and go for a swim. So glad we stopped here. Ordered calamari, Spanish meatballs (see pic), beef cheek and ginger beer batter fish. Food was delicious. Portions not too big and price was very reasonable. Washed down with coffee, ginger beer, lemonade and a local brew. Staff were young and friendly, and very professional. Highly recommended. Will go back ourselves, sans kids next time so we can linger longer.

Oh wow! The best coffee - I went back in to ask what they did to the milk it was soooo creamy & delicious (fresh glass bottle milk). I have eaten here before & it was fantastic too so I will definitely be going here on my next trip to Lyttleton!

Third time there. Always excellent. Great atmosphere and interesting tapas style food. Cosy logburner... What's not to like?

Great little spot. The fried chicken is outstanding. The hand cup chips are perfectly cooked and seasoned. The Townshend Hazy IPA 👌🏽. 5 stars!

This place is efin awesome. The food is some of the best I’ve eaten in Christchurch. Everything feels thoughtfully put together and just efin yum tbh. Sick wine list and good selection of beers. Sick vibe. One more shout out to the masterminds behind the food. If you’re a true lover, your gears will not be ground by any aspect of this establishment. Get into it Christchurch.

And the cocktails were such a treat- highly recommend the Beef Cheeks followed by an Espresso Martini!!! Warm, professional, welcoming staff ♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡ we will be back to just soak up the positive vibes, great food & cocktails in this wee gem of a place!

Luckily grabbed a table for 4. Had some shared food that was good. A cozy, happening place. I like the decor, feels like the frontier

Had a fantastic lunch today with my partner! Very cosy atmosphere with the warm fireplace and wooden furniture. Coffee had a good kick to it, the fries were bloody awesome! We had the fried chicken toasties with a whole heap of pickles in them. The best toasties in town to be honest. We really look forward to visiting again for dinner or a drink one night 🙂

I've lived here for six years and this may be the best food I've had so far. The seasonal greens were gorgeous and the brie had a light smokiness that made me melt. Also great local beer on tap!
