Review Ruby Red - Mangere

Komal Singh
A regular favorite whenever I'm in Auckland. They serve great coffee and offer a delicious assortment of pastries. Their French toast is AMAZING! During this visit, it started as a quick grab-and-go coffee stop, but I couldn't resist trying the delicious sticky cinnamon pecan scroll, which led us to enjoy our coffee right there (much better that way). We also decided to get their house-made scone. No regrets! The service was prompt, even though they were quite busy, and the outdoor seating provided the perfect setting to enjoy the sun and breeze.

Treat yourself to the Big Brekkie. A slight upgrade from the usual mixed grill, in the Mangere area. Comes with a gourmet pork sausage (gf), creamy mushroom (nice and light), bacon, eggs (any style), wholegrain toast with butter and tomato. A decent sized plate of brekkie goodness. Others dishes to try are their Omelette and Beef salad 👌 I've ordered a few times now. Lovely staff and great service.

Really chilled out, community village vibe. The coffee is exceptional. The barista is soooo good. I keep coming back just for her, and I've been doing so for 6 years. The pancakes are super fluffy, and the portion is generous. The breakfast salad is perfect. Well seasoned and portioned. I'd probably add another two poached eggs to increase the protein content, but still its very, very delicious. The selection in the cabinet is also delicious. If you're looking for a place that has a relaxed vibe and has a great community feel, this is the place to go.

We walk and pass by this shop, found that really crowded, so we walk in and give a try. The staff here are so friendly, and the food portion is worth the price. The size big of drinks really worth it too.

Lovely food! It’s always fresh and hot. Corn fritters are a favourite of mine - they’re packed with goodness and come paired with a lovely relish. The coffee is more than halfway decent (excellent in my opinion) and I’ll admit, I cannot resist their gingerbread men. The staff are friendly and always provide quality service.

Really fast and friendly service. I asked for French Toast with bacon the first time but still got bacon, then I ordered again today and asked for blueberries instead of bananas and bacon and I got it. Still too sweet for my liking but it ain't too bad.

Cherry smile at the counter and great service at our table. We both ordered an omelette which was to include Salmon, at an extra cost. Would have been fine if we could spot or taste the Salmon. Otherwise tasty. Great coffee - nice and hot. Price would have been fine if the Salmon had been just a little bit visible. We have been here a number of times now and there's always a good vibe.

The coffee is superb. The food is great. The staff are genuinely friendly and attentive. Prices are very reasonable. We frequent Ruby Red most weekends... it's that good 👍 Our go to brekkie is the Free Range Eggs on 5 grain toast, mine is with bacon and my wife's is either with salmon or avocado (the tomato relish is a perfect accompaniment). I also highly recommend the Big Brekkie. Best cafe in Mangere Bridge hands down!!! We love Ruby Red ♄

I’m from australia and this was the best breaker I’ve had in years!!! 10/10 for coffee 10/10 for food Price may be deceiving but it’s worth it for the portion size you get! I will be back!

Great coffee, excellent salmon filo, scrumptious Carrot Cake, moist, full of flavour. Outdoor dining, welcoming staff

One of the best cafĂ©s Auckland has to offer. <br/><br/>Ruby Red locally sources their produce; something that really shines through in their affordable breakfasts. I’d reccomend the bruschetta - two slices of garlicky ciabatta topped with avocado, tomato, and pesto - which was delicious, filling and only $9! Their hot drinks are also incredible value for money, on top of being very well made. <br/><br/>This cafĂ© is a clear hit with the locals, and with a welcoming interior, great food and an affordable menu, I can’t say I blame them.

Food was delicious & hearty. Wonderful portions. Reasonable prices. Was very busy on a Saturday morning. Limited seating inside.
Chan Can Eat
Great cafĂ©, sunny in the morning, just when you want it. The outdoor seating is perfect, summer or on a rain-less day. The menu is a perfect size and they’re great in regards to customisation. The coffees are great too. It’s a lovely place to meet friends or read the paper. The prices are good too

Enjoyed breakfast here with my family. Downside is that us adults were served first and kids were left waiting longer but I guess that may have been something to request for next time. Staff were friendly and very helpful. Loved the Salad breakfast. Food looked appetising and tasted great too.

When you're not feeling as frugal as I am most days, head to Ruby Red and treat yourself to the Big Breakfast. A slight up-grade from the casual mixed grill. Comes with a gourmet pork sausage, roast potatoes, creamy mushroom (nice and light), eggs (any style), wholegrain toast and tomato. A decent sized plate of brekkie goodness so make sure to go on an empty stomach!

I’m obsessed with this place! It’s often my first choice. Their blueberry pancakes are perfect and come with plenty of yummy extras. The pancakes themselves are always fluffy. The coffee is very nice and the staff are never rude. Corn fritters is also a favourite in our family. The seat height sometimes gives me anxiety but other than that, it’s lovely. There are also plenty of tables outside.

We come here most weekends to grab a coffee, something from the cabinet and sometimes a breakfast. The coffee is lovely and very consistent! The paninis are delicious and I love the morrocan chicken and the ginger crunch slice but having tried a couple of other more average things those are the standouts for me. Breakfast meals are nice and reasonably priced. Its my favorite place in the area to get a coffee and something to eat.

Ordered the scotch fillet with eggs. Food came out in reasonable time. The potatoes & mushrooms were drenched in gravy which let down the overall meal. Needed a side salad to balance it out. Was a bit pricey at $24. Would not be a first option when in the area for a feed. Service was good, no problems at all.

Went here for brunch. Restaurant is nice enough and the service was pleasant. Can't fault the portion size and for the price it's well worth it. The food was ok but nothing amazing.
Rowan Rebecca
Enjoyed our brunch there yesterday. Welcomed but attentive staff, great coffee and my husband said best chocolate milkshake ever! He had the mince and said he'd be back for it. I ordered the omelette... it was delicious. Very happy with our visit.

Nice atmosphere, good food. I guess what’s missing is personality, warmth, a smile, a better customer service from some staff member. We were totally ignored as we sat with no hello? after saying good morning. Water was served to other arrival customer when I had to get our one from the fridge. The girl taking our order at the till so need to smile and make conversation. Was an experience

Food was amazing. Service phenom. What a gem! Highly recommend! Healthy, hearty and delicious! We can’t say enough about this amazing cafù. 😀

Best Salmon eggs benny ever!! Great team behind and always friendly. Other food items are just as great. The chicken and avacado sammy is the bomb and their big breakfast is beautiful.

I haven't really checked out Mangere Bridge before but we decided to meet friends there for brunch. The cafe was cute, the food good and the coffee large! Basically ticks all boxes.

Enjoyed sitting outside two weeks ago observing the local world wandering by. Good coffee and tea on a calm day with regular amusing visits from the delightful pigeons that have developed effective tactics to avoid the supervision of those in authority.

1st visit ordered from breakfast menu. Really good food, great service, great portion size not too big....kids pancakes perfect portion (7year old) eggs Beno with bacon and spinach was very satisfying not to much 😀

Staff are very friendly & welcoming , portion size could be reviewed though. great experience meals are delicious. Would definitely recommend to friends about this place, large groups probably not so much as the indoor space is a bit cramped

Average food, average service, portion size was big but the food was just a bit of the classic home made meal. Good local cafe based in mangere bridge/
Diner8Here
back in the days mangere bridge was a quiet village and the western side was a block of general stores just like the east side is now and today is now a block of cafe and restaurants.  As a former village person here It looks like the west side caters for the yuppies/tourist and the east side has take-out shops catering for the locals. <br/>Anyway came down to Ruby for cappo for the long weekend here and i can tell it's all tourist/visitors here for this.

Great food, great service, great coffee, great drinks! A great local cafe that is always a pleasure to visit! Friendly staff are all ways willing to help if you have an problems!

Dine here maybe once a fortnight . Breakfast is great - wholesome organic and quality is the best out of the whole strip in MangereBridge. <br/>Coffee not so great- ordered Hot Choc & Mocha both came out so Flat the waiter was struggling to walk with them without spillage. so i wouldn't recommend coffee but food is Delish !

Had breakfast here yesterday. Sorry to say the food was really awful. We both had scrambled eggs with bacon and toast. It all tasted like it has been cooked on a dirty hot plate. The eggs tasted burnt with black bits in and a fishy taste- bacon burned black and even the toast had a horrible fishy taste. The prices here are still on the expensive side and at $14 each for two horrible breakfasts which we couldn't even eat this was not good. I realise it's holiday time- but if you're going to be open and charge high prices, you should at least have staff who know how to make nice food. Will not be going back.

Came here for brunch with a friend we both got eggs benedict. I had a hot chocolate with mine and he had a flat white.<br/><br/>Good portion size. Cooked well. Good service. Of the few cafes and restaurants along this strip Ruby Red serves more organic and wholesome foods but is more expensive compared to the other cafes.

Popped into Ruby Red with the hubster for a mid-morning coffee and snack - we were glad we did. Hubby had the Cajun chicken wrap and he loved it. I had the frittata and enjoyed it with the side homemade tomato sauce. The coffees are well done and staff are warm and efficient. We're repeat customers now:)

We had lunch there today<br/>Nice day to sit outside<br/>Good service<br/>Nice coffee<br/>Excellent Mince on toast with a Fried Egg<br/>I will go back which says it all

Friday morning, rainy and cold. Visited this Cafe for the first time, but I was so happy to see a familiar face with a warm smile there. The barista staff worked for another Cafe which I almost visited on every weekday morning before. Where not to meet! She made a nice large Flat White for me as well as before, mellow and long aftertaste but only for $ 4.50, a lovely price. Another surprise was found on their loyalty card, grab 8 coffee and get the 9th one for free. (I post reviews on Zomato in order to improve my English, please for free to let me know the syntax error and more better sentences.)

Oh no!!! The lovely people have gone, and we are left with mass produced food.  How sad, always was a quaint place to eat.  Now just like everything else in Mangere Bridge.<br/>My rating would be 0 for the food selection if you could put that.

This place usually has the most amazing food! Coffee is always great but with a recent change over the food cabinet has gone down hill and when I got home with my slice realise they are actually buying from there local bakery (they left a tissue with their logo on the bag) hopefully the food will pick up until then it will just be coffee from there for me!!

Been to Ruby Red several times in Mangere Bridge with family and friends. Always a busy cafe, but staff are efficient. Have tried several meals on the menu - French Toast is amazing, Eggs Benedict and Chicken Salad. I have also tried the food displayed in cabinet. Their smoothies are lovely too. Have not been dissapointed.
Kelly
I love this place. Felix makes an amazing coffee and the food is fantastic, especially the French toast! Is a small cafe with a teeny kitchen, it gets very busy and as such the food can sometimes take a wee while, but it's worth the wait and the Service is great. Highly recommend Ruby Red

I was asked to remove my RR post from my database based on my first experience and rating of my coffee...I noticed previous Zomato foodies were not asked the same although some scored much lower than my coffee experience.<br/>Let me make it very clear that this rating is for the coffee not the service or the food as it was too full to sit in and try the food which I wrote looked good enough to go back and try later.<br/>Disappointed with the request but my review was by no means scathing. <br/>Update: arrived and managed to find a table. Extremely busy so the wait for our coffee was a bit long although our table was cleared wiped down promptly while we waited. Coffee was good when it arrived.<br/>Food was hot tasty and plenty of good bacon for each meal. He was happy with his big brekkie. <br/>

Lovely little café with good quality food. I ordered toast and the bread that came out was extremely healthy bread filled with seeds etc. That was good for me but I can imagine that would not be for everyone's tastes so I think as the bread they serve is quite special they should note down what it is or give customers the choice. They didn't make milkshakes but didn't mind me going next door to get one and bring it back which I thought was nice :) The food also took a little while to be served - but when we received our dishes it was great food so we were happy.

Little, hip Ruby Red. It's always nice to have a cool local. Felix and Amanda, the owners are always happy to say hi and this place gets packed on a Sunday and Saturday morning. The music and decor are great and the food's really good. Even though Rr's small, there's a kiddies corner out back and a back entrance/exit.

I eyed this cafe up yesterday partner wanted something different BIG MISTAKE.  I had the Eggs benedict with salmon perfect amount of salad which was 3 leaves the sauce was delicious and the lemon wedge topped it off perfectly.  When ordering coffee i find it can often be too milky this was not it was a good strong coffee the lemon slice was very nice it had a good zing to it.  Mangere Bridge is such a beautiful charming little village and its a very nice place to enjoy a meal.  The staff were very nice they enjoyed taking the time to talk to their customers.  I am looking forward to returning.

Went in and thought it looked nice . The price was way to high for what you get. I got the waffles and i only got two waffles with fruit and yoghurt for $16 dollars. I ordered before my friends yet my waffles took a lot longer. I waited 30 minutes. $18.00 for eggs benedict which is way too over priced. Service wasn't too great either. Disappointed.
Pauline Bennett
The coffee and mocha are good. The eggs benedict was good, served with a chunk of baked salmon - my daughter demolished this and throughly enjoyed it. My bacon buttie wasn't too impressive though.  Well toasted grainy bread was so crisp it was more like a cracker, with a swipe of relish and aoili and a  such a small amount of bacon I had to open the bread up to make sure there was actually bacon inside. They were very busy on Sunday morning but service was friendly and tables were cleared promptly.

Mangere Bridge's best for diverse, real, good quality food and coffee. I recommend you go there for breakfast, brunch and lunch. Oh, and afternoon tea (before John Key and the National Govt strip you of that small pleasure).
Barb Burgess
So pleased we moved to The Bridge as we now have a fantastic 'local' to visit. Service is friendly, staff are so cheerful and make you feel at home. Have been in with husband, a toddler , family and many friends have joined us for late breakfast on a Sunday and all have been most impressed. Food is great...Have had many things from the menu and haven't had any problems. All enjoyable. Will continue to be a regular.
Julia
My favourite cafe, best coffee, a little pricey but worth it for the quality ingredients and delicious home cooked baking. Little play area is perfect for the kids. They use proper baked salmon in eggs Benny or you can order it as a side and create your own breakie.
Isabella Lascelles
Went here because Metro said it was good. Well it's not, coffee was average and my partners had too much sugar in it. Pies were magically dry and soggy at the same time. Had better food at Hollywood bakery. Will not return.
Brent
Ordered a big breakfast which to 40 minutes to arrive at my table and was pretty average. Toast was soggy, no sign of herbs of the burnt herbed potatoes. Presentation was poor. No apology offered. Used to be a great place to eat but looks like it is starting to go down hill.
John Atafu
Very disappointed with service and food, the coffee guy was across the road talking to friends and when they yelled out to him to help out, there was a bit of a crowd. The wait was long for coffee, which came in wrong size and the big breakfast was average and expensive. Only checked this cafe out due to reviews and was surprised that it was below average. Don't think I will come back to this cafe.
Em .
Best cafe in Mangere Bridge!<br/><br/>Excellent coffee, lovely homemade pies &amp; savouries,<br/>fantastic blackboard menu!<br/>The mince on toast with an egg is super yum!<br/><br/>Play area for the kids,<br/>outdoor seating under the trees.

Visited Ruby Red Cafe in Mangere Bridge for the first time last week after our biannual visit to mother homeland from across the ditch. Normally eat at the cafe next door but my hubby liked the look of Ruby Red. He had the big breakfast and liked it. He said the coffee was the best he has ever had. I ordered a peppermint tea and was in heaven. We took two slices away, a ginger slice and a lemon slice (individually wrapped and bagged) delightful tasting. The next day before we left I went back for a decaf soy with cinnamon on top (yummy) and a yoghurt rhubarb slice (refreshing). Definitely will be back on our next visit.
David Boshier
I am a sucker for mince on toast for breakfast (Rudy Red's has an egg on top). That along with good service and coffee is 4 stars.<br/><br/>Hunt this place out if you want to have a Sunday breakfast in a different location.
Peta Davy
Real local feel, great food and great coffee (if perhaps a little pricey). Recommend the French Brioche.
Dane Grierson
Great coffee, cute place, obliging staff and very, very nice food. The quality is just great, and they use top grade, fresh ingredients. I skip Onehunga/Royal Oak completely to come here and it's worth it every time. Getting a bit busy now though, so maybe I shouldn't rate it so highly..hmmm. At the end of the day, there's a reason as to why it's rated as one of Auckland's Best Suburban Cafes.
Andrew Deakin
Really enjoyed the food and service, would quite happily go back again and recommend it to friends!<br/><br/>Well worth going too!
Wench Nat
I love this cafe ... the food, the kids area out the back, the staff are awesome and really helpful and the food is quality and not expensive. Recommend!!!

After reading a very positive review decided to try Ruby Red cafe for breakfast with friends. Service was good, person at the front very friendly and welcoming. Not much variety to choose from on the breakfast menu.<br/><br/>I ordered Eggs Benedict. Very nice, quite steep in price - $17. Big breakfast is $18 - have had better at a cafe further down, and it was cheaper too.<br/><br/>Our friends do not eat bread or meat, so asked for an omelet instead. Unfortunately they don't do omelets here. So scrambled eggs, mushrooms and tomatoes it was. A busy morning so the wait was understandably long. Our friends received their scrambled eggs with toast. Instead of taking the toast away, they took both plates away again, and after another 15min wait scrambled eggs appeared and were burnt (there were black pieces on their plates) and was very watery. Very disappointing.<br/><br/>Thanks for the experience Ruby Red Cafe, but we most definitely won't be coming back again if we want value for money.
Good Food
Mangere Bridge is an excellent place to wander down for breakfast; a couple of weeks ago I saw 'Ruby Red' and with a friend, tried scrambled egg, I wanted light scrambled egg and the chef knew exactly how I would like them; I have been back three times for the same. Coffee is a bonus too as is the service; In my view Ruby Red Cafe is about quality and not quantity. Guess what, heading back tomorrow with another friend! will I try something different? watch this space
Rebecca Keesing
At last a decent cafe in Mangere Bridge with an obvious appreciation and understanding of what good food should taste like!<br/><br/>I wandered in there this morning after having my usual cheap n cheerful eggs on toast at a cafe next door, just to have a look as 'Ruby Red' has only been open for two weeks.<br/> The food looked delicious and I could not resist taking away a Lemon Slice, and a couple of Melting Moments and Belgian Biscuits.<br/> (for my workmates of course!)<br/><br/>I ate the Lemon Slice as I drove (I'm pretty sure that's not illegal yet)<br/> It tasted like REAL food. It was buttery and lemony, the texture was perfect.<br/> The girls I work with just sampled the other treats and declared them very yummy.<br/> "Totally worth the calorie content!"<br/><br/>I'll be going back there to try out their breakfast menu.
