Review The Village Grinder - Masterton

Limited availability of items in the cabinet was a bit disappointing, (only one Salmon & Cream Cheese tart left), however what we did order was tasty. The tart was delicious, the Chicken Leek Pie was also good. The Savoury and Bacon Toasty was bordering on having too dry a base, but the accompanying beetroot chutney was a good relish. Coffees were good. we enjoyed some of the comments written on the blackboards (Yes, thank you, ,my coffee DID kick in before reality did!)

Nice spacious cafe, food is good ....could do with a slightly more adventurous selection.

Highly rate the food and service. A very busy Cafe but our food and coffee was delivered quickly. Staff was very friendly. I will definitely go back next time I am in Masterton.

We had the smoked chicken and Leek pie which was excellent and tasty. The food is old style home cooking and suits the location and Cafe type. Friendly staff and fair prices and portions. Overall a great place to eat if your hungry!

Cosy little cafe on the corner with outdoor seating. Good coffee and food. Parking out front. Sunny spot on a nice day. Good selection of cabinet food as with the menu. Reasonable prices.šŸ‘

Great to go to a Cafe at 1.00pm and they still had a good standard of food available. Prompt service. Clean

Got a great breakfast and good coffee. Friendly and efficient staff if inflexible menu options. They need to do more substitutions and consider people who have dietary issues as lot of the select had bread as part of meal. 3 if my party have cealiacs so it made for some careful considerations

Beautiful coffee, lovely food. Had the BLT, the tomato was raw which is how I like it. It had plenty of bacon, just the right amount of lettuce and a delicious chutney.

Breakfast muesli was the best ever tasted with fruit made of fresh berries a banana with honey and yogurt all beautifully prepared and a large serving. Friendly staff in a nice sunny location. The place was clean and generally nice to be in. We noticed that it was frequent by groups of cyclists and families, busy but not noisy. I'll be back!

A rare but return visit did not disappoint. Smiles all around, hot tea, extra water without asking (a standard with tea often missed by modern day servery practices) oh and a great scone, maybe slightly too much baking power for mg personal liking but generous cheese......great. as I did this time, I'll automatically return. Place was full at 1130 on a Monday says it all

ordered a large size flat white, and got a medium, obviously they didn't check the bill.Ā
Also seemed toĀ want to get rid of customer - took away cups even we were still drinking , maybe we were staying past closing time , sorry didn't know the closing timeĀ Ā - we went in about 2 :20 pm - but they could have let us know - thereĀ were a couple other customers as well when we left. Overall not good service at all.

I'm being genuinely honest rating the village grinder. Looked promising however service underwhelming. Waitress didnt know if an item could be swapped out and had to ask. My scrambled eggs were watery and the bread had gone soggy. My mushrooms barely hit the pan and were almost raw. Overall presentation was hit and miss.

Really enjoyed the waitresses they where the nicest part of my outing the food very under welmed is it hard to make a nice coli or nice compote no but defrosted frozen berries with pancakes I will be back to try it again food looks rustic but nice.

The worst coffee I have ever tasted. Like the leftovers from an old pot of coffee, watered down. Just bad. There are many other places in Masterton that will make a decent cup, avoid this place if you like Coffee.

This Cafe ticks all the boxes for me, very good coffee, great array of attractive food on display, and the friendliest staff! I ve tried several things here and enjoyed them all! IF I can make one tiny observation as a "seasoned Cafe owner and sandwich maker", youre club sandwiches would benefit greatly from Iceberg lettuce rather than Mesclun- the person who created Mesclun should have been made to eat platefuls of it, they would then understand why there are things like Cos and Iceberg! See you next visit to the big city!!!

My favourite coffee shop! the coffee is rich and deep, the best Masterton has to offer. The service is friendly and efficient. I love the quirky music playing in the background. While waiting for coffee I love to browse the products they have for sale - things you don't see anywhere else.

What an atmosphere, loved our Grilled Veggie Panini's along with the Toffeenut and Gingerbread Latte's. So much ambience and choice of beverages, food and desserts.

We'll definitely be back
