Awesome place, Chinese food was so good, very clean shop, staff were very friendly

Ordered two pieces of snapper and 4 fried eggs . The fillets were huge, ended up only eating the one piece and saved the rest for tomorrow . I found the batter nice and a little crunchy on the outside .

First time there, just passed through after a nice day out and honestly was surprised how good it was. I'm not big on fish and chips but definitely enjoyed the ones there. Also, couldn't remember the last time I seen a fish and chip shop that you can actually dine in, beats eating in our car 😁

Best fresh and variety of smorgasboard in town.

The food is always fresh as and yum. Freshly made smorgasbord after 5pm. Great variety to choose from. Prices reasonable. Place kept clean. Service good. Pleasant banter between staff/family gives the place a pleasant atmosphere. Prices reasonable! Definitely a regular spot for take-out dinner.

I love this place! No wonder it won the BIG NZ wide accolade for having the very BEST chips in the whole of NZ! It deserves the illuminated sign that moves around the roof. Plus I love the plastic pots of delicious food that you pick out for yourself! As long as you can securely fasten the lid down before you walk out the door! Top tucker ✓✓✓

First time buying chips and fish, both were tasty. Definitely go back. I normally go after 5pm and get the smorgasbord, that is excellent, lots to choose and well priced.

Nice place. We phoned our order through and they waited until we arrived before grilling our fish so it was freshly cooked. Great job.

Great food, and service with a smile. Also did you know their chips have been voted best in New Zealand three years in a row? Definitely worth a try if you haven't already.

The young staff aren't nice to me but are to my partner maybe it's just a girl thing. I work in a fast food place so I know about the stresses. Just is every time. Doesn't stop me from coming though. Always the most amazing fish. And the mushrooms are to die for! I took my family who came up from Christchurch to Mr Chips and I was so sad the one time I wasn't happy with their fish n chips was that time. The chips were under cooked but the rest was okay. I usually go for Chow mein but went for fried rice this one time. My partner loves it but I found it hard and a little raw. The rice was either over cooked or not cooked enough I'm not sure but I'm going to stick to chow mein . Nick still swears by the steak fried rice, however we are all different. I've had the smorgasbord a few times and love it. Though I have to admit if you are around other customers, the customers will get agro at you. That's not the stores fault! Overall I love this place. I don't come for the service, I come for the food which is amazing. :)

The food served here is delicious, whether it is off the menu or from the chinese smorgasbord. The staff are wonderful and compliment the owners, one who fishes commercial so ya know the fish is fresh! The smorgasbord has lots to offer and is replenished even before they run out, and off the menu portions are big too, making it great value for your hard earned coin! I find the atmosphere and attitude of the staff very friendly and comforting, making one feel right at home. When they're not run off their feet they are more than happy to have a chat & a laugh. I've also had the privilege of being introduced to their young child who is just as chatty as their mum! All in all making Mr Chips a great choice when one is having take aways 😁 p.s. did I mention they also won the bestest hot chips in the whole of Aotearoa just recently???! 🤤🤤🤤

I highly recommend the smorgasbord, I haven't yet tried the fish but the chips are also excellent. The flavours in the chili beef, black bean and the pork belly are punchy. I actually licked my plate afterwards! The spring rolls are also fantastic, I will be back for more quite regularly i reckon. Well done Mr Chips Masterton.

The go to for smorgasbord Chinese usually as there's lots of options and I know what I like there. <br/>Don't get fish and chips often through them but when we did last time we tried the $18 pack with 4 Fish, 2 hotdogs, 2 spring rolls and chips, turned out to be really tasty and well worth the $$$.

Highly recommend Mr Chips Chinese Takeaways!!! Such good customer service I've come across and such friendly kind staff. The Fish n chips as well as the smorgasbord was delicious. The fish tasted really fresh and yummy. Whenever I'm in town this is my go to for a meal!

I recommend Mr Chips they have a grate range of Chinese smorgasbord and also nice fish and chips. Their staff are always polite and help you out if needed.

Have a been a long serving customer of me chips masterton , that is until I went there last week with my wheel chair bound wife ( car accident ) . We were really treated second class and when I went to buy a plate for the smorgasbord I was overcharged by 3$ for the size plate and told by the member of staff it was an "accident" . I then asked for some extra vegetables with my fried rice and heard the worst thing I have ever heard in my life.. You already have extra vegetables looking at my disabled wife with a smug grin on his face . I had recently approached them for an apology for my wife who was obviously distraught, only to be told I was a liar . STAY AWAY FROM HERE!! @Melissabants

I usually love to support local businesses but quite frankly your customer service is shocking. After asking simple questions about whether your food has seafood in it it was replied with in a sarcastic manner which made me feel unappreciated as a customer. After this experience I went onto Zomato to see other reviews and in all honesty I am shocked at the replies on this website. Businesses should strive to value their brand image and customers and its clear that you do not. Sarcasm and blatant rudeness is such a bad look, defiantly would not recommend Mr. Chip. So I hope you appreciate that I "bothered" to do this, just like I hope other customers "bother" to go two streets across to get better service at Chans.

we don't live in masterton but travel up there often as a brake away. have ALWAYS loved Mr chips Chinese until last night it was awful so much so that did didn't agree in mine and my sister tummy. After last night I'm sorry to say i will not be going back. Besides it not agreeing with us the chicken lemon was dry, the pork and vege dimsims were foul and the noodle tasted weird. really wish i didn't have to write this

Most amazing fish and chips I've had in a long time. Staff were stressed but food was on time and not sold out like the Ballon festivel. And was ready when I was told. Most impressed
