Genuinely the best steak sandwich I've ever had. The steak was so perfectly rare, the aioli cannot be matched, definitely going to come back every time I'm in Matamata. Not one to be missed, and the staff is so friendly too!

Great, lively atmosphere. Excellent food. Super friendly staff. Loved the fettuccine dish! And the boss's white shoes were spectacular!😆 Thanks for giving us such an enjoyable dining experience - absolutely delighted that we came!

Fantabulous Recommended by our b and b hosts and not disappointed. Plates of fresh snapper, cakes and cookies to die for and great friendly service. A warm welcoming laid back atmosphere. Perfect. :-)

OMG what a place, amazing interior indeed. Welcomed by the staff ordered bacon & egg pie, chicken & mushroom pie, chips and a couple of milkshakes, the food was absolutely fantastic and so tasty and the milkshakes were served in the old metal shake makers. They could not have done anything else, our experience was so good we will be back. A1 all the way.

Stopped by for bunch, food was quite filling, nothing special. Coffee was okay. Prices are what you'd expect for a tourist town. Lots of vintage adult humour on the walls.

This kiwi retro gay-friendly place has excellent coffee, good food, excellent service. We need a place to change our clothes because we were heading to a wedding in Tauranga and the manager went out of his way to attend us. He's so kind that we decided to come back next day...same great vibe, beautiful coffee and yummy slices. Eggs Benedict for $22 and a very reasonable portion. Highly recommended!

Workman's has been in Matamata for more than 2 decades. Still owned by Sid Workman! In fact it's so old to the town that no one working here today could recall the exact date when it first opened. Does the actual date really matter? It's still doing great business. It's become an institution and really transformed the cafe culture here. I remember Matamata in the 1960s; a bastion of National party - no cafe like Workman's then. Thank you for such a positive change in this fine rural be town.

This is a little gem, very good value for money. Pork belly (lean cut which I preferred) with additional veggies, and pan fried fish( smaller size).

Looking for great food while in Matamata. Look no further. We ate here twice and really love it. Funky quirky ambiance. Excellent coffee and service. Inside and outside seating, right on the main drag. Friendly service, the food was outstanding.

Called in for early lunch on our way through Matamata. Partner had Eggs Benedict with seasonal vegetables and loved it. I had poached eggs with bacon, the eggs were cooked perfectly. Coffee was good. Staff were friendly and services was prompt. Looked like a good selection of cabinet food as well as on the menu. Worth a try if you are in town.

The owner (at least we think he is since the staff said he was the boss at one point during our dinner) was absolutely wonderful. He could easily tell we were tourists having a hard time figuring out where to eat, so he helped out by making suggestions, not just from his menu, but of other restaurants around him. After debating a bit we decided to eat here were the food was good and the staff friendly. The owner even sat down and had a wonderful conversation with us. The interesting atmosphere and the good food was hard to pass up.
