Review Langkawi - Milford

Ordered a Beef Laksa and Sambal chicken. The laksa is very thick and creamy, and full of flavours. Lots of beef brisket pieces too. It was delicious. Sambal chicken was spicy and delicious 😋

Swung by this sunday evening for a convenient dinner takeaway meal. Heard some good things since the new ownership. Meals were well packed. Meegoreng is pretty authentic imho, has the wok hei, good portion size and well seasoned. I would go back. Hainanese chicken rice. Everything about it was great, chicken eas soft and succulent. Ample sauce. Great tumeric rice with seasoning, would be perfect with a bit of fried shallot. Comes with an amazing home made chilli sauce! I would go again! This will be a new local for me.

Delicious meal , we went just after 3pm and they let us in which was sweet they could have easily said sorry were closed , the waitress were both very kind and well mannered and great prices will definitely be going back to try some different dishes ,

Lunch special, great value! The environment is good, the service is good, the taste is better, and I will go there often in the future

Lovely staff & wonderful food. We live just down the road and will be back! Vege spring rolls and the pepper chicken were amazing 😊

The chicken laksa was divine! The chicken was perfectly juicy and tender within the soup! A testament to the skill and care of the food. Dipping my roti in the rich laksa broth was next level. Enjoyed the beef rendang and chow kway teow.

First time, impressed with the food especially the special Nestrum prawns. The friendly Chef owner, came to say hi. Going back next week again. Recommend.

Food portion was good, though could perk up the tastiness. The char kueh teow lacks the smokiness that Iwas looking for.

Good food, kind of quiet atmosphere. Only two staff so when is busy be prepared to wait. About 30pp

Fantastic food- great flavours, authentic Malaysian style food. Roti Chanai was perfect. Definitely coming back here!

Probably the best Malaysian food I've ever had and I love all of the colourful lanterns inside! Def a new favourite

My absolute favourite restaurant! Makes me so happy every time I eat here and the staff are super lovely!

We came without a booking and got the Murtabak, Chow Kway Teow, and Beef Rendang.

All the dishes were delicious, but had a bit of a different flavour from other Malaysian restaurants serving the same dishes. Food did take a while to come out, so we were quite hungry by the time that it did. Prices were also a bit steeper than other Malaysian places. The owner was very chatty which made you feel welcome, but was a bit difficult to get his attention if you wanted something or were ready to order as he would be talking to all the other tables.

I really enjoyed langkawi. Honestly one of the best in Milford. Customer service was great and friendly. The environment itself seemed a bit confined but it didn’t affect my comfort because the food was amazing!!!!

I recommend eat ins as nothing can beat the taste of fresh food served straight after being cooked. I also recommend making advance reservations as it can get packed quickly, especially the weekends.

All in all- good food, friendly servers and comfortable place to be.

Ordered their food via delivery service so I can’t comment on the ambience or service but what I will say is that their food was REALLY GOOD!
I’ve never had Kang Po Chicken before but it was full of flavour and lots of sauce so perfect with rice. I also got a roti cause I was feeling it and this also was really yummy with the stir fry!
Lots of big pieces of NOT DRY but perfectly cooked chicken and heaps fresh crunchy veges.
Also their portions are generous and it ended up being two meals! Dinner and lunch for the next day wooo hooo đŸ‘đŸ»
Will definitely try again and hopefully eat it there one day:)

Very expensive compared to the amount of quality of ingredients and very small amount of pieces of meat. The taste isn't bad but bad customer service and I would never buy a meal for $23.90 with 8 pieces of small meat (Ayam). Tong Yang had around 6 quarter pieces of mushrooms and 6 pieces of prawns. First time I tried the place was an okay experience but never returning after the recent meal and experience that I had.

Been comming here for 2 years and it has always been consistent, friendly and great value.
The Host, Rodney has created a wonderful atmosphere and his scallop halia is superb

Not the best place to try Malaysia food. The food is all over cooked and overpriced. Mama rich is way better if you don’t mind the drive and it’s just a lunch bar.

Gave me food poisoning as they knowingly used 'off' ingredients. DO NOT EAT THERE, STARVE! They knew the food was bad but told me it was too late as they had already made it. They offered to make me a new dinner and told me they would not give me my money back if I complained to the food health and safety authorities. They tried keeping the food so I could not complain further.

Fantastic food!We got takeaways here last night - Wife had Mee Goreng and I chose Beef RendangBoth dishes were very flavourful and delicious - next time we will go into the restaurant to check it outprice was very reasonable and food was ready pretty quickly

Our favorite little restaurant on the shore. Delightful decorations and friendly staff. The food is beautiful, my favorite is the Langkawi delight. My partners favorite was the tiger prawns. We often get takeaway or come in for the BYOW.
Justine
I’ve been going here for over 20 years and the food just gets better and better! Our family’s favourite takeaway meal, simply DELICIOUS. Don’t miss Ayam Kachang and Mee Goreng!

Popped in here quite late after a day at takapuna beach. I was craving some satay skewers! The fries were crispy and not oily! And the chicken was delicious!

The guy who owns the restaurant was such a cool dude, an old man who just had so much life in him! After we finished our meal he came over to us and asked us how we found the meal etc. he gave us the history of the restaurant and taught us a lot about traditional Malaysian food!

The decor tho lol it was pretty wacky all the walls were covered in random soft materials, like table cloths plastered everywhere. But I guess that’s the vibe.

Would probably visit again just to talk to the owner lol

Great food. Wow. Will be going back again. Great flavors and fresh food. Very enjoyable night. Nice small restaurant and cosy................

How can I explain this. Magnificent food! All the flavour and excellence that you expect from Malaysian Food they have!. Beautiful balance of flavours. I should know im a chef. Absolutely wonderful owner Raymond he is the nicest most sincere owner I have ever met. Interacting with the guests too see if their needs are met. We even met one old guy who has been coming to this restaurant for at least 22 years.if that's not dedication I don't know what is his reason was that the food is absolutely exquisite everytime he goes. But don't take my word for it experience it for yourself this time was my first but I will be returning for as long as I walk this earth
Raspberry Beret
Friendly and seemingly simple Malaysian restaurant with a good menu. The Kung Po chicken is absolutely divine. Nothing wrong with this place at all, but it seems to lack some pazazz - can't quite put my finger on it...

We bought a couple of dishes for takeaway and we loved them all. The vegetables were so fresh and crunchy. The sauce was well balanced. We will definitely come back in the future 😊

Good food reminded me of the taste from KL the mains were a lot better then the soup and the appetizer though. Would go again to try a few more dishes definately.

This place is a Milford institution and for a very good reason - it consistently produces good Malaysian food for a reasonable price. We went there this week with a couple of friends and had a good meal in a comfortable environment. The service was very accommodating and friendly. We all shared the Langkawi platter of Murtabaks, Satay chicken, Fortune Bags and Spring rolls. All were tasty, and set us up for what followed. For mains we shared, Daging Lemak (beef), Kapitan Chicken, Babi Lemak (pork), Tamarind Fish and garlic roti chanai. All dishes were good, but the spicy Tamarind fish and the chicken Kapitan (with its surprisingly complex curry sauce) were the stars of the evening with their balance of flavours and taste.

I lived in kl for more than a year and I have to say this is not Malaysian cuisine. The roti canai was a paratha, the sambal wasn't sambal made with chili padi, sugar and tomato sauce, was simply caramelized onions with vinegar and hot sauce, the murtabak wasn't really the famous omelette fill up with meat and onions, it was another paratha filled with meat and peas. Didn't eat the rest of the food cause I was already to disappointed, I have to give credit to the attention it was very polite from the owner's son to not charge me and let me leave with my hopes for trying Malaysian food crushed.

Really slow and very bad service. Waited over an hour for food, waiter forgot to put in our order. When we "complained" about other diners who came in after us and were served way before us, the owner and waiter did not seem to care, just shrugged their shoulders. Only one waiter working, need more waiting staff and much better training.

Very good food with intriguing spice combinations. Very tidy place. Quite a busy place on times, so better make a booking before you go. Also good takeaway service.Recommended, especially at that price

Took the family to Langkawi Restaurant in Milford for a fathers day treat and was very impressed with the quality and authenticity of the food. Every dish which is off the menu was well presented extremely tasty and delicious. The service was excellent as well. I would thoroughly recommend this restaurant and would certainly be going back again. Probably the best Malaysian food I've had in Auckland yet. My wife is Malaysian and she thoroughly agrees with my review.
Karen
great food, every time. Been a dozen times.
Could be a little faster when getting takeout.
Lovely people , always nice to deal with.
Service always great when we eat in .

Great Malaysian food in a traditional setting. This place really makes you feel overseas with its decor and ambiance. Enjoyed both dishes we ordered - very tasty and authentic. Service was very good and our waiter was very helpful. Would return again if we're ever over the shore.

Came here for dinner before concert. When we walked in the restaurant, it felt like we were in northern Malaysia. I just love that atmosphere.
We ordered kapitan chicken (curry chicken), sayuran kachang (vegetables in satay sauce) and daging lemak (beef in lemon grass and coriander) and nasi lemak (coconut rice)
The sayuran kachang is one of the best I ever had! The authentic flavour of satay with peanut (and the peanuts were crunchy) mixed extremely well with veges, and I am sure it is not a sauce made out of peanut butter! I had more coconut rice than I normally have because of the sauce.
The beef in Daging lemak was quite tender and juicy. Though, I was a bit disappointed about the chicken dish.
Service wise, the waiter and waitresses were pretty busy with all the takeaway orders from phone, and hence need to wait in order to get their attention. If we were in a hurry, we would not come here.
Otherwise, I was pretty happy about the food!

Food was ok, authentic. Service was nice and atmosphere was nice. Our water was warm though and we didn't have a lot of space

Back from overseas. Dined at my favourite restaurant. Our meals were still as good and consistent as ever. The service was excellent. Ambiance has changed a little bit but still as good as I remember it.
Vicki Williams
Food great. Service very poor. Staff did not want to be there and did not care about the patronage. Would not go back to dine.

I don't live round Milford but I always try and make a stop here because I love their food. Their mi goreng is fantastic here. Their prices are reasonable and the owner is very friendly. Place is nicely decorated.

We love this restaurant! The food is delicious and plentiful. We recommend the Langkawi Platter - even our 9 year old loved it. We ate so much we couldn't fit in dessert, but I'm going back for it, as the have the traditional banana pancake! highly recommend this place!

Dined here for my parents wedding anniversary on a Tuesday night, and it was busy. Very delicious Malaysian food. Staff were friendly especially the owner, he was very welcoming and gave us complimentary bread which was delicious as well. The wait time for the food took a little longer than expected but it was worth the wait, the food was excellent. All the dishes had quality and was very tasty.

If you want to try Malaysian food this is the place to go. I definitely recommend this restaurant.

A great little Malaysian restaurant that has been around for years.

The owner is very talkative and keen that you have a good experience and enjoy their style the food.

We had a range of dishes from the menu and they were all tasty, spicy and a good match for a cold Tiger.

If you are looking for something a little different head to this place.

Yummy malaysian food at reasonable prices. Deco is a bit 'kitsch' though, by Malaysian standards... but hey, I understand they are trying to preserve their authenticity... but mixing Balinese deco/music with Malaysian...cmon... lol

Ordered the murtabak (basically meat stuffed chappati) - okay, not that great... and the cha koey teow (of course!). Main was nice tasting too.

Service was great, very courteous and attentive waiters.
Cheryl Yates
Assuming the service was a one off. Food however was lush and environment, rich. Thoroughly enjoyed food.

We love Langkawi!!!
It's always a special treat to eat there. The wait staff are attentive and you feel really well taken care of and like part of the family. It's warm and welcoming and the decor adds to the experience (lovely batique cloths and woven mats on walls, and interesting knick-knacks from Malaysia, some slightly kitch - but in a good way), without making you feel like you're in someone's living room!
If you're after resonably priced, hearty, delicious and flavoursome traditional Malaysian food, Langkawi is the place. They have been there for a long time and I can understand why. Worth coming to North Shore for, wherever you live:)

Great take aways at reasonable prices. Have been there a couple of times and always been very hapy with the service and take aways.

Went on a Saturday evening the place was busy. Meal was lovely and staff were very friendly. Cost of meal was reasonable, will go again.
Les Howe
We had dinner last evening (a Wednesday) Only two other tables occupied so not busy.In & out in one hour. Wife & I had the platter entree of 4 examples, which now cost $8.80 each (IE $17.60) not $6.60 each as shown on menu here. Seems very expensive for the small amount on the plate. Takeaway menu seems to be more extensive than that for those dining in!
Only 2 choices from the beef menu (not 4) no venison nor seafood items on the menus we were given.
Erin Spencer
Very tasty food. Nice cosy restaurant. Would highly recommend to all.

What a secret treasure we have discovered in deeepst Milford.
Really great food from a menu that tells me that repeat visits are a must. Been a few times now, and service always OK, although recommend avoid table bookings during teahour on Saturdays, as they do restarurant-takehome, and this can slow the kitchen down a bit
The decor screams Malaya, and we love it
Rochelle Hilton
Very cute & cosy restaurant, food was divine! Service was a bit slow, but could have been just that night. Certainly wouldn't stop me going back! Love it! Love Malay Cuisine :D

A "must do" Malaysian experience. Fresh, authentic and very moreish! Have been going there for years and always had a great meal and evening.

Wonderful food and service. Try the Daging Lemak and Kungpo squid. A malaysian foodie paradise!

Good service, always seems to be busy. Having been to the island of Langkawi and loving the variety of food there I was a bit hesitant whether this restaurant could match the quality on the island, but am pleased to say they do a good job and my favourite Beef Rendang was up to scratch. We need more Malaysian restaurants in Auckland, in my opinion they have the best food in the world because of the different cuisines eg Thai , Chinese and Indian and obviously there own. My wife and I go to Melbourne a lot and they have a more Malaysian than Thai and Indian. They also have a restaurant called Papa Riche which is a franchise - hopefully it will get to Auckland.

Cheap and cheerful, not bad for some takeaways.. Dressed up kinda like a tiki bar with butterfly's and stuff it's a bit gourdy but the food is pretty tasty..

Definately recommend for takeaways but not sure if I'm keen for a dine in experience..
