Review Uncle Man's Eastridge - Mission Bay

One of my go-to Halal restaurants in Auckland. The Mie Goreng is good!

One of the best Malay-Indo food! Very delicious but I prefer Manukau store more. Soto Ayam is sooo good!

Ordered from this store on DoorDash and couldn’t have been happier. Food was so tasty and well-priced. The staff even followed our order notes! Would definitely order from here again.

Good for a quick bite after work. Some classic Malaysian fast food. Tasty and reasonably priced.

Been dining at Uncle Man for years now since it first opened on K Rd. The nasi lemak with beef rendang is one of my fave dishes. Always consistently good and great washed down with a teh tarik. The roti canai is great and the smokey char kway teow and murtabak are also really good. Yum!!

If you have been to Uncle Man on K'Rd, you'll be familiar with the menu and the tasty authentic Malaysian cuisine it offers. Highly recommend the chicken satay, nasi lemak with chicken curry, roti canai and dadar gulung for dessert. Reasonably priced and plenty of parking as it is located at the Eastridge Shopping Centre. However, the eatery is relatively small compared to a typical food court. The place can get busy during peak times and you may have to wait for seats!

Great little Malaysian restaurant located In East Ridge eatery! I tried the Seafood Laksa and the salt and peppered squid ! I was advised by the lovely lady behind the counter to opt for the mild curry level instead of medium which I thankfully followed. It was the perfect level of spiciness. I really enjoyed the mixture of vermicelli and egg noodles. The broth was delicious. The side order of squid was the perfect size for two people to share and it came with a tasty dip on the side. The staff were super friendly and it was VERY reasonably priced. This restaurant is not licensed but you can purchase a beverage on site from Noa across the way. It was genuinely the best Laksa I've has since coming to New Zealand. I would highly recommend a visit! I'll be back upon return to New Zealand. It is based within a courtyard of restaurants from which you can choose food in any of them and still sit together if part of a group with different food cravings. Loved it.

Uncle man’s is my favorite Malaysian restaurant in Auckland. The food is delicious, the portion sizes are super generous, vegetarians love the options they have and the slow cooked meat is super tender and flavorful. Honestly delish!

My boy friend likes this place and took me here today. Very tasty food and very good service. Price is pretty reasonable. I am a very fussy customer but I would give 5 stars this time.

Food tasted great and doesn't seem to contain MSG, portion is decent and didn't take long to come out, plus you don't need to spend over $20 for a meal!

Vegetarian Nasi Goreng is a tasty option. Would recommend medium spicy. Large portions.

Staff was very friendly and supportive. I had to leave in a sudden and they help me to pack my dinner. No judgement.

The Uncle Man's in East Ridge does I believe the best Nasi lamak around that's Malaysian style rice with small salad and peanuts and boiled egg. With you choice of beef rendang or curry chicken. For a reasonable price and excellent servings. Also the tried the beef mee gorang (that's noodle with thin beef stripes) and that was as any mee gorang I had in Kuala Lumpur!! The food service is quick and staff are all very pleasant. Worth a visit.

The best place in town for Malaysian style coffee... and the food is so delicious....

I've always been a fan of Uncle Man's cheap and good Malaysian hawker fare but I can't say that I have been a big fan of the K-Road premises and I could never quite get to the Queen street store so I was thrilled to see that they recently opened a 3rd branch at Kepa Road's new Eatery (a food court style restaurant) at Eastridge Mall (near enough to the folks who live in the Eastern Bays - St Heliers, Glendowie, Kohimarama, Mission Bay and Orakei).

Made a special trip to have my fill of Roti Canai and chicken curry and Kway Teow Goreng before lockdown.

What I liked:

1. They have a much cleaner and nicer environment and ambience being part of a larger foodcourt set up known collectively as Eatery at Eastridge

2. The K Road store looked tired, old - this little corner seemed like a small refreshed version - love it. Good seating, cutlery on the table tops, little takeaway menus.

3. On the topic of takeaways, the staff were friendly and chatty and offered us a little menu flyer to keep and take with us so that if we were ever too busy and wanted to order out to just give them a call and come pick it up.

4. Small Plates like Karipap (Malaysian-style Curry Puff), Tahu Sumbat (stuffed deep fried tofu), Chicken Satay and Salt and Pepper Squid, Roti (all manner of paratha, canai and murtabak), Rice (from Nasi Lemak to Briyani), Noodles (from What Tan Hot to See goreng) and a good selection of basic Desserts like Banana Fritters, Roti Tissue served with condensed milk, Kueh Dadar and Sago with coconut cream and palm sugar and Roti Bom - make this a great place when you have that craving for a simple but effective selection of Malaysian street food that a Singaporean like myself would crave from the local Sarabat stall.

5. Love their Teh Halia (Ginger Tea) - flavourful, not too sweet, thick and creamy enough and hand-pulled with all the bubbles and froth resting on the top layer of the cup - just the way, I fondly remember it.

Most certainly coming back for my next comfort food fix.

Taste 9/10. Really good
Value 6/10. Small serving size for price
Service 3/10. Staff couldn't understand simple question in English and was totally clueless and could not calculate correct change to give

Would recommend staff training and larger servings.
Been here couple of times and their food quality and service is good. I would say best nasi dishes and well made roti chanai i ever had . Keep it up!

I've eaten a lot of noodles in my time and the mee goreng is one of the best I've eaten in Auckland. Absolutely fantastic. The char kway tow, murtabak and nasi lemak were also superb! Worthy of a trek to visit.

The best Malaysian out "east" to be honest. Great tasting and reasonable pricing. Parking is easy and convenient - it is part of Eastridge mall. Keep it up Uncle!

The food here is delicious and very affordable for the huge serving. Always tasty and filling, and it is very nice sitting there at The Eatery. Will definitely be back 😊

Enjoyed my roti and mee goreng, service was good and prompt. Will definitely come back again to Eastridge Eatery, varieties of food to choose from especially when my partner can patronised other stalks. An upmarket eatery place that serves alcohol.

I went with 3 friends to The Eatery on a Friday evening. I opted for Uncle Man’s as it had the best variety of vege food. Since I’d been meaning to try the K Road outlet, I was intrigued to find out why everyone loved Uncle Man’s.
My love for noodles swayed me to get the vege Mee Goreng and it didn’t disappoint! I asked to have it spicy and they definitely didn’t hold back. My meal came out quickly and it was packed with flavour and super filling. Would love to try the stuff tofu starter next time!

Uncle man is, in our opinion, the most authentic malaysian franchise in auckland. Their mission bay branch is situated in a more upmarket foodcourt setting in Eastridge mall.
They have a very nice foodcourt decor interior with several range of different eateries. There are limited spaces to sit though. The eatery was packed by 6.30pm .
At Uncle Mans we had the char kwey teaw, chicken briyani, and the lamb briyani. It was very good value for the entire dinner only cost $50. Our meals came out fast, despite their constant stream of orders coming in. Flavoursome authentic malay spiced flavours. The size was big as well, the lamb shank was massive! Both the meat on the chicken and lamb shank were very tender and moist & came off the bones easily. We had to takeaway the leftovers because we were too full to finish them.
Highly recommend to eat there for its taste, service, and setting.

Uncle Man's is really establishing themselves as an authentic Malaysian brand.

Regardless of which location of their restaurant branch, Uncle Man always succeeds at bringing out the most aromatic fragrance of spices in their dishes.

The menu options at Eastridge is not as immense as their OG K Road branch but would be suffice as they have a wider selection than their IMax branch.

In terms of taste, I'd say the flavours are the same as their other two branches. The aromatic spicy curries paired with coconut rice and zesty sambal sauce never fails to stimulate your taste buds.

An item that caught my attention that I seldom see on other Malaysian restaurant menus is the Dadar Gulung. It's a freshly made slightly chewy pandan crepe filled with palm sugar and dessicated coconut. It's served cold and couldn't be any better! In my mind I did wish it would be served soak in some mild coconut cream as does get a bit dry but the restaurant does provide plenty of Malaysian beverages.

Overall the experience was great! Service was very friendly and food came out fast.
I was a bit confused in terms of seating arrangements as it seemed the restaurant only had two tables designated to them but that is something you can always enquire with their staff.

An upper end food court in the Eastridge Shopping Mall. The rotti tissue was sweet, which was quite different, warm and flaky. The mee goreng was chewy and well spiced.

Taste: 7/10
Presentation: 7/10
Service: 7/10
Ambience: 7.5/10
Value for money: 8/10

We got a bunch of dishes to share from The Eatery and I choose the Beef Rendang and Roti from here. Wow. I was so impressed! I didnt end up sharing very much at all. Good bang for your buck too. Pic after I had already eaten a decent amount.

Overall pretty yummy. Well presented meals and a nice atmosphere. Having an Indonesian wife we have had plenty of Malaysian cuisine before. However...the sauces and satay were definatley a little too sweet, if they were slightly less sweet this would have been the best Malaysian food we have ever had!

Came here on Thursday night and ordered the chicken laksa which sadly we did not eat it as it had quite a strong fish smell/taste, it came with fish cakes that we were not expecting.

Great location and plenty of parking outside. Setting is ok but when it gets busy there will be lots of people surrounding your table as it is close to the counter.

Food is great and the Roti tissue is really nice as with their Mee Goreng.

We ordered the murtabak and lamb biryani rice. Great portion for both dishes but biryani rice is on the bland side, lacking fragrance. The lamb shank is very tender but just too sweet to our liking. The murtabak is also on the sweet side but has great flavours.

Eaten here multiple times, sometimes a hit and miss. But had a majority of good experiences. The portions are of a great size and the desserts are very tasty!!

Great food great service great atmosphere great price great everything...their Mee Goreng, Chicken Rice and Nyonya Chicken Laksa are amazing!! If you want to try authentic yummy Malaysian food here's the place :-)

Updated with some takeaway photos too.

Finally made it to this store having visited the k’road location before. Nice twist on a classic lamb biriyani. Great flavour and love every bite full.

Vegetarian char kway teow was very well done. There was about 50/50 rice noodles to various types of vegetables ratio in the dish, cauliflower, broccoli, carrots, bean sprouts, tofu, onions and egg. I loved it. In other places you usually get too much noodles and not enough vegetables. It came out piping hot, the only downside was that my husband ordered mild and it was mild. Next time some spice is required for a true Malaysian fare!

Absolutely delicious! even the staff are authentic malaysian. Not sure what's up with the other reviews but as a malaysian I thought the food was incredible as well as the price that went along with it. Tried the beehon goreng, nasi lemak with fried chicken, roti planta, roti telur, nasi goreng ayam and nasi biriyani ayam. For drinks had the milo ais and air bandung. Alll delicious and can't wait to go back! favourite would have to be the beehoon goreng!

Having been to the K rd branch gave this a try and ordered mee gorang, good sized serving tasted OK but way too greasy, staff were friendly and this mini foodhall is a most welcome addition to an area that has been a waste land for decent food, will try again may have just had bad luck.

had the char kwot teiow ?(spl) and roti canai, which were pretty good.
service was pleasant.

one star off because I did not like how they had kept the place. Looked pretty shabby for a nice new establishment.. sorry..

Great food, fairly fast service, nice location although it would be nicer if there are allocated seats. Similar taste compared to the other branches. The Nasi Lemak - Beef Rendang, Spiced Fried Chicken and the Chicken Stay were delicious.

Tasty Malaysian food - I had the lamb biryani - everything was cooked nicely. My hubby ordered prawn mee soup but he thought it was a bit bland to his taste, but I enjoyed the soup base, and our friend ordered mee hoon Goreng which we all enjoyed. Will go back again.

Went on opening day today, not busy at 5pm. Got 15%off opening specials, $68 total bill, great deal. Friendly cashier and workers. I haven’t been to Uncle Mans Kroad for a while but the menu choices seem to be reduced and priced at about $1 or so more? Sorry for the ‘not so sharp pics’ - we were too hungry!! We ordered prawn mee, murtabak, beef&lamb satays, char kway teow to go. Waited about 25mins for our takeaways so decided to order Roti Tissue (eat-in). Food is delicious, our favs are the satays. We asked for spicy ckt, and boy it was super hot spicy!! Too much for me but Hubbie likes it. They use brown boxes for the takeaways, make sure you get home fast and move it to a plate straight away because ours got really soggy and the noodles stick to the bottom/side of the box. Good place to eat with family and friends as there are many other choices within the Eatery. One thing we noticed though, sooooo many flies buzzing around the seating space. Hopefully that’s just because it’s a super hot day today and the flies would dissapear by the evening.
