Review The Garden Shed - Mount Eden

Korina Kellingham
We held a baby shower brunch in the Garden area for 15. The atmosphere was pure magic, it felt like a secret garden. We took many beautiful photos of beautiful food and great memories. Service was very good, everyone got what they ordered. A 20min delay when we arrived due to delays with the last party packing up, I would book for 12:30 rather than 12 if I did it again. Food was lovely, presentation on point. Smore's were very cool. We had fun exploring the drinks list. My vegetarian friend was very happy with her meal. $20 deposit pp was cited for group booking, which I dutifully collected from my guests, but payment of an individuals balance on the day could have got pretty messy for guests as they left, because the system wants payment for specific items, rather than payment of a arbitrary amount towards an overall bill. Thankfully the manager knew the system well and could make it work. Overall, myself and my guests had a wonderful time and will happily recommend the Garden Shed as a gorgeous little jewel of Mt Eden.

The restaurant's interior design is really cool and captivating. They've put in a lot of effort into the garden decorations, and I quite liked it. The staff members were friendly and accommodating. When it comes to the food, I was pleasantly surprised. The steak had a smoky flavor and was cooked just right. The vegetables and sauce were equally tasty. I also indulged in a dessert - the creme brulee. It had a lovely and balanced cream, the sugar coat on top was delightfully crunchy, and the biscuits were soft and of good quality. However, I found it a tad too sweet for my liking. All in all, we had a great time enjoying our meals. While the prices are a bit on the higher side, they do offer some good deals on specific dishes.

Good selection on the menu. The coffee and hot chocolates were made very well and the food was delicious! Staff were friendly. Highly recommended and will come back again to try the other food items we weren't able to fit in our tummies.

We hosted a friend's babyshower here recently. Booked the table for 12pm for 15 people and a few arrived at 11.45 to set up some things. Unfortunately there was another group booked back to back so we didn't get our table until 12.30. Unfortunately by than the mum to be had arrived along with our group of 15 that had to huddle at the tables out front. Once we got to our table though the staff and service was AMAZING. The area at the back by the water feature is gorgeous, the food especially the dessert was also amazing so they were able to turn the day around šŸ™‚

Very nice steak, very nice house terracotta bread. Excellent vibe and great service. Always happy to come back. Even the kid's steak were nicely done

I took my parents here under the ā€˜First Tableā€™ arrangement and we had an amazing time. We got a whole assortment of dishes and were really impressed by all. Also a special thanks to the girl who served us, she was awesome. PS. Sorry to quiz you on the accent, it sounds like you get that a lot! Hamish Dorrington Kakapo Business Sales

Probably the most beautiful restaurant in Auckland! The courtyard is stunningly designed. Garden is the theme of the restaurant so every little thing is related to the theme. How about the food? Yummy! Beautifully cooked. We enjoyed every meal we ordered even vegetarian one. Kid loves the burger with extra beacon. Highly recommended šŸ‘

Love this place, frequent it often. the servers are always pleasant and accommodating and whilst I took pictures of the menu, they change frequently, but the farmers board shared between two was a winner. Would recommend booking and asking for a seat out back in the garden, busy most nights. Also bonus with decent beers and a good wine list that wonā€™t break the bank

The Garden Shed is a pet-friendly and beautiful place. I would recommend it as a great place to get a drink and a snack. The food is good, slightly more expensive than similar cafes nearby.

Have been at The Garden Shed for dinners before and gave it a 5 star rating. However tonight at Valentines Day dinner was very disappointing. Set menu mains I ordered the mushroom tortellini which turned out to be lumps of deep fried heavy dumplings with sauce over it rather than what i expected as true Italian pasta dish. Hubby ordered a spiced kingfish which looked good on the set menu but failed to impress at all overly spicy oily chilli salsa sauce all throughout the dish. The Mexican waiter listened and acknowledged that we didnt want our champagne that comes witg the set menu 3 course meal until after we finish our initial order of beer and cider. But a lady waitress couldnt bring the champagne out fast enough as soon as the set menu was ordered. Then the waiter offered to bring kids colouring paper and pencils out for our little one but never followed through until i asked him to bring it while we try to settle a restless child over the dinner. Last and worst of all, as my mushroom tortellini wasnt great i had asked for it to ve packed up so i can take it home. The waiter came back with a takeaway box and didnt even offer to pack it for me! We explained to the front of house girl fish was too spicy, we explained to the waiter food wasnt great. They said its supposed to be that spicy. Never once did they apologise or offer to credit or throw in any free drinks to make us feel valued. I'm afraid we won't be going there again. Disappointing this time and it would be our last.

Booked a large table on a Sunday for brunch and it was so amazing, had the best waiter, super friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is so relaxed and nice and the food was amazing! We had 18 people with us and every single person loved the food and would come back! Great options for dairy free and gluten free as well.

Mine and my partners first date night in a long time, and we weren't disappointed! Service was friendly, efficient and the food was to die for! The best restaurant and service we've had in yonks! The ambience was lovely; loved how it catered well for families that we saw dining their too. (we're expecting our second child, so good family restaurants are hard to cone by!) I cannot recommend this place enough, and will be back in future ļæ½

What a great place. Very pretty setting, lovely attentive friendly staff and delicious food. Having 2 coeliacs in the family it was a treat to go somewhere with so many gluten free options and even a big choice if desserts. Felt so relaxed eating there as the ingredients were real food so felt confident it was truely gluten free. Thankyou so much!

Great food & good location. Ideal place for brunch or just to grab a delicious meal. A refreshing take on rustic & Iove that the name does match the overall decor of the place.

The Garden Shed is honestly in the heart of Mt Eden and one of the best restaurants Iā€™ve been to! The food was vegetarian-friendly, the decorations were beautiful and the drinks were nicely made <3 The service was especially AMAZING as the staff members were always funny and easy-going but yet very focused on their tasks. Unlike some restaurants, the friendly staff members actually made sure you are having a good time and they certainly put their 110% effort in delivering the best service ā˜ŗ Once you sit in the garden shed, youā€™ll seriously feel a wave of warmth and happiness. This place is one of a kind and Iā€™m so grateful to have spent my birthday here. My friends and I all loved it so much and it was definitely a night to remember!!! <3

Excellent evening , delicious food at the Garden Shed, very friendly happy staff. The homemade apple pie with Vanilla Bean ice cream is well worth the 20 min wait. Hot from the oven, it was just heavenly. Will definitely be returning. šŸ‘šŸ˜Š

Great service. Our waiter was very attentive and the food was great. The smores are highly recommended :D

Service was very slow (well over an hour), we think they forgot our order. The food was also a bit hohum. Was a shame, as it's in a lovely sunny spot.

Been to the garden shed a few times its always great, today had our first hiccup with a slightly stale bagel,we let them know and they replaced it instantly and was super happy and obliging then took the price of a coffee off which was a bonus. But over all super freindly staff (had a lovely Brazilian guy well we think he was brazilian), great food and nice cosy environment + you can take your dog how cool is that.

6 of us for lunch, fab service and delish food. Lovely wines and good beer selection, and a great setting. Really enjoyed the experience.

A tad heavy on French staff who like to be inappropriate otherwise best place to eat in Mt Eden village by a long way forget circus circus!

Venue lovely staff friendly...Portions on the smaller side but very tasty. Would come again!

Terrible service and food. Wont be returning and wouldn't recommend it.

Went there without any research and were very surprised with the amazing food.. the Terracotta bread was such a great dish that we went back for seconds.. Other stuff was nice too...

First time back after reopening, food still great as far as i remember. Dreamy interior and very instgramable! Really impressed with the food and its generous portion, staff were very friendly as well. Price is a little high than other places but overall very pleasant experience :)

Service = 2.5/5; Taste = 3.5/5; Value for money = 3/5; Menu options = 4/5; Vibe = 5/5; Hubby rating = 4/5. <br/>The Garden Shed is a great place for an intimate date night in Mt Eden. It was the first restaurant we went to after lock down for dinner. The food was quite expensive, so I donā€™t think we would go back without a First Table reservation. <br/>For my full review go to honestfoodiereview.com or follow @honest_foodie_nz

Great food, amazing & cozy garden ambience and very friendly service. We have requested to write a ā€˜Happy Birthdayā€™ on the dessert plate for my friendā€™s birthday and they willingly did it. Some restaurants will hesitate or will say ā€œthey canā€™tā€ but the garden shed didnā€™t disappoint us. Will definitely come back and highly recommend this place. ā¤ļøšŸ‘šŸ„³

Went there for brunch last week, love the cozy and relaxed atmosphere. The cocktail menu looks intriguing, will definitely give it a go next time. The burger and fries were awesome.

Nice atmosphere and friendly service. Food was rather average though.

Nice ambience here with rustic botanic themed. The food is ok, for big breakfast bacon can be cooked more crispier on the side but middle still moist, this one still soggy for me. Pancake is good taste but only lil bit too flat & maple syrup can be separated because its got absorbed on the pancake then its gone and become dry pancake. Overall, its nice place to chill and have a brunch and the food is just ok.
Dennis Wong
first of all, your staff are super friendly and thank you for running after us as we had left our bag there when we had left. your two lovely ladies were amazing. 5/5 stara for services<br/>Atmosphere was great, it was so nice to have an outdoor area while can relax and chatted while having a dog friendly place. My pup was super happy to find a place to chill instead life staying at home while we go out for dinner<br/><br/>My friends and myself enjoyed the food there. we ordered the sharing platter, slightly different than I would imagine as I was expecting my meats.but it was completely my fault that Ii didn't read the whole menu and just ordered a platter.<br/>we have also order the market fish and the lamb.<br/>All the food are exceptional and we enjoyed every bit there.

Iā€™ve heard some good reviews on this place and was super excited to try it out when they reopened after a period shutdown. This rustic looking restaurant bar creates an excellent ambience and offers an one-of-a-kind dining experience.<br/><br/>There is a indoor dining and a courtyard dining area. The outdoor dining patio is beautifully decorated by pots and garden tools, a great escape from the hustle and bustle.<br/><br/>They serve big portions of American dishes. The dishes were nicely presented however the taste could be better for the dollar you pay.<br/><br/>The Eye Fillet was a little over cooked, the hand cut kumara was good though. The Lamb Ragu was nicely flavored, but the pappardelle was a little meshy.<br/><br/>The Farmerā€™s Shed Sharing Platter was great. Massive portion with a great variety for small tapas. The bread was warm and tasted nice and buttery. The fried chicken was nice and crispy. The fried onion rings were super tasty. The cured meat, meatballs were nicely flavored as well.<br/><br/>The waiter and waitresses were very friendly and showed good hospitality. The dining experience overall was excellent but the food was slightly disappointing.<br/><br/>Taste: 7.5/10<br/><br/>Presentation: 7/10<br/><br/>Service: 9/10<br/><br/>Ambience: 9.5/10<br/><br/>Value for money: 8/10<br/><br/>Price $30-45 per person (excl alcohol)

Very good! They were closed for some time but have reopened!<br/><br/>The lamb ragu was the only dish that disappointed. The noodles were overcooked hot and soggy. A bit too hot, almost like microwave... so bit disappointing.<br/><br/>The steak however was matched with really nice beef jus, the burger was bloody amazing and delicious, fries were crunchy and yummy, the pork belly was crunchy and delicious. <br/><br/>Had a great enjoyable experience. Just the lamb ragu was a bit silly. Otherwise would be 5 stars!<br/><br/>Service: 5/5<br/>Environment: 4.5/5<br/>Food Quality: 4/5<br/>Food Quantity: 4/5<br/>Presentation: 5/5<br/>Price per person: $30-$40

Wanted to love it but for the price some of the food lacked flavour, risotto rice was undercooked and ā€˜sage butterā€™ was watery. Cute decor and good vibe however and the hummus was delicious! Also really enjoyed the craft beer selection!

Great food, great service as usual. Their fries are the best!

Cute little place. Good service, clean and will definitely be going back. Loved the idea of eating in a pretty garden. Food was ok too :) :) :) :)

I miss this beautiful place, hope they open again soon. We took a friend here for brunch and seated at the courtyard, she canā€™t stop taking pictures. They do a pretty platter and humongous burger. Coffee and beetroot latte quite nice too.

First lunch after moving home and it was the Fish and Chips that won the day. The staff were very friendly and the outdoor area had heaters that kept the cold at bay. Highly recommended for a catch up lunch with friends.

This place is amazing!! From the ambiance, to the food presentation, the taste and the service. Came for a weekend brunch for a cheat meal, the cheat was so dam indulging.<br/><br/>Ordered the Platter, onion rings, fries. which was way too filling for the price. The bread was so very fresh tasted so damn amazing.<br/><br/>The wait staff, very pleasant and friendly around. With me clicking pictures of the food one of the staff asked to tag him there. (Hey there if you are seeing this I've done it)šŸ˜›<br/><br/>

I absolutely love the vibe of this place. Very warm and welcoming on a cold winter evening. I had hibiscus flower soda, mulled wine and crispy chicken with hot sauce. The hot sauce wasnā€™t hot enough for my liking but I still enjoyed it. Definitely going back to this place.

This is an unique cafe with green and eco friendly interior design.<br/><br/>If you like to have your meal either alone or with company in a peaceful, serene and cosy environment, this may be the right eat out place for you.<br/><br/>The foods and coffee are excellent, waiting staff are averagely friendly. This place always appears to be clean, neat and tidy.<br/><br/>Have been here several times and will definitely be back again!<br/><br/>Food & Beverage : 8/10<br/>Service : 6/10<br/>Price : 6/10<br/>Ambience. : 10/10

By far the best restaurant I've ever been to. Antonio the manager was really good, great service and good sense of humour. Look forward to coming back.

Always a great time at The Garden Shed. Such great atmosphere and food. The staff are always the friendliest! Special shoutout to Antonio for all the laughs šŸ˜‚

Atmosphere was great, itā€™s a cute restaurant - never been to a place with such well thought out outside areas, went on a cold day and was toasty warm outside. The food was good, perhaps looks better than it tastes, ultimately if the prices were cheaper Iā€™d definitely recommend it. But worth trying if youā€™re in the area.

It was really good place for brunch :) really pretty place! I recommend to go garden side:) Decoration on my drink was really pretty with flower. Had a good time in here.

Came in to try their Mulled Wine and ended up staying for dinner. Such a lovely place and warm and inviting. Mulled wine was gorgeous and such a great price. One very happy customer.

Garden shed is a very good place to have your cuisine. I went there 2 times, first with my vegetarian friends. We have mexican flavoured cuisine which was pretty awesome but second time , the non veg was not good so much , i was disappointed from that but service was good.
Matty Krelle
Love this place, the interior is great - perfect ambience for both a meal early in the day or dinner! The lamb ragu was very generous and filling - the meat was cooked to perfection. Great service - everyone is super friendly and helpful

I went here on two separate occasions, both times with vegetarian friends. First time I went for a brunch and I had a really good meal and was really impressed. We had some Mexican flavoured beans and eggs. Second time I went, I was highly disappointed. I had a seafood pasta but nothing special at all, worst one was this ā€œaioliā€ that tasted like nothing. Not sure if there will be a 3rd time. <br/>

Service from wait staff was perfect. They were very friendly and helpful. Would even go back just for the hospitality!<br/>Food was delish and just what you would expect from a popular destination in Mt.Eden.<br/>The flat white was beautiful with the milk froth done properly. I am a fussy eater sometimes but today I was very happy as a first time customer!!<br/>Took one star off because the meat patty was a bit on the dry side.

I was really really looking forward to trying out The Garden Shed and laboriously went through the Zomato reviews before heading there. I read that the burger, apple pie and smores got the highest recommendations, but I went for the Pork Belly dish instead (hard to say no to 'crispy crackling').Ā <br/><br/>Unfortunately I was let down by the dish. My preference would be a 'dry skin' crunch to the pork belly piece but that was okay - I could put up with the sticky-hard-but-still-slightly-crunchy skin.. but what really put me off was that i got an extremely fatty piece with very limited meat to pull away from. Being Malaysian, I usually clean up every morsel of food on my plate, but I was so disappointed in the dish i left it with gobs of fat sitting on the plate.<br/><br/>I went for the apple pie dessert and while I appreciated its combo with beetroot, etc, - it was severely undercooked and doughy. We didn't even finish this either.<br/><br/>The only thing I enjoyed was the mulled wine. I'm not sure if your chef had an off day yday, but it was very very disappointing. When asked about our meals at the end, I only managed a polite smile, sorry.Ā I tried really hard to like the food but it was a total letdown.<br/><br/>Apart from that, the garden ambience outside was beautiful (even at night) and customer service was second to none.

Sā€™mores, sā€™mores, sā€™mores, sā€™mores, sā€™mores......... thatā€™s all I can say! <br/><br/>And that courtyard, such a beautiful place to sit and sip on some Lake Hayes.<br/><br/>Bread served in a flower pot... soooooo cool!!!
Miura Elikana
This place is a popular local. The food is delicious. I recommend the pork belly, good combination of flavours both sweet and sour with the apple puree. The apple pie is divine! Thereā€™s a rustic ambience that they have. If given the choice dine in the courtyard, even on a cold evening. The heaters & garden give a relaxed environment deceptive to the busy Mt Eden Rd.
Foodstyler
Im a regular here and visit probably atleast once a week, love the courtyard at the back and on the side, sodas and teas are nicely presented, they stopped using plastic straws aswell and replaced with paper ones, would be great if they had variety of desserts so that we can enjoy our drinks after a meal
Charlotte Lucas
The Garden Shed is the place to be in Mt Eden. The menu offers a wide variety that caters to unique tastes. I was suprised at the range offered on the drinks menu and really impressed with the effort that goes into their presentation. The stand out dish was the beef burger with onion rings and the salted caramel/pretzel sundae is highly recommended. The outdoor courtyard area out the back is a nice escape from mt eden traffic. Maple coldbrew and beetroot coffee well worth a try! Having been to other eateries in the area this one stands out to me!
Emily
Our brunch was unfortunately disappointing. Food seemed to lack seasoning and care, and my vegetarian breakfast was so dry it was verging on inedible. Back courtyard area is seriously cool though... sigh...
Sandra Judy French
Had Easter Sunday dinner here.<br/>We started with the onion rings, which were crispy and served with aioli.<br/>My main was a seafood linguine - a very generous portion, the flavours were there but it lacked seasoning. Also two of four mussels were gritty, so not pleasant.<br/>My husband fared a lot better with the pork belly, which had some delicious crackling. Tasted a bit over done to me but he liked it fine.<br/>Dessert was by far the best course, apple pie baked in a skillet, served with vanilla ice cream and fresh cream. Delish! That alone is well worth the trip and probably the only reason Iā€™ll return.<br/>The ambience is nice and three courses for two was $92 (including 1 beer).
Zoe
Have come here for dinner a few times. The dishes are a little on the pricey side, but the decor is nice and the staff are very friendly. I would recommend checking out the outdoor seating area.
Chelsea Lopez
The service was good! <br/>Not the best food though - Iā€™ve been here 3 times now (not by choice) and every time nothing has really impressed me.. The breakfast platter is lacking - poached eggs came out hard poached, there was only one tiny mushroom and 2 tomatoes and the baked beans were bleh really. I would say that the fried chicken is not bad but it lacks flavour. The onion rings are way too battery and also lack flavour. In a previous visit I had a salad that was very basic and also a fish dish that wasnā€™t great either.<br/>Moreover, the coffee was overly foamy.<br/>Overall not the best experiences Iā€™ve had eating out so I wouldnā€™t recommend it in all honesty.
Rosanne Choy
Came in for a lunch today and ordered a garden smoothie bowl and a shed burger. Service was very good. <br/>The fruit in the smoothie bowl was very fresh and the granola tasted very healthy. Shed burger was massive and the fries were very crispy. Overall, it was a enjoyable lunch. Highly recommend ordering a shed burger if you're feeling extra hungry or a garden smoothie bowl of you're up for a light and healthy lunch. Would come again to try the fish and potato cakes.

Nice place for a date or catching up with friends. I love the atmosphere and the interior design. Staff are friendly but a little bit unattentive. My steak was disappointing because it was too dry. The 2 kingfish dishes were okay but not too impressive compared to the price. Kumara chips were awesome and highly recommended. Will come back next time for kumara chips again and give myself a try of the pancake on a good day :)

Extremely dissapointed that my return to what was a benchmark has fallen so so short! Given this was my weekly go-to place for over a year, the drop in standard is noticeable. <br/><br/>Extremely busy could have been the cause of the lack of ingredients however does not explain the indifference that is on display by staff. Small things seem to have fallen by the wayside. What more the size of the meals has shrunk to a point I thought they would be fitting for a kids meal. <br/><br/>Here's hoping we were the exception but fair to say we won't be returning in a hurry! <br/><br/>Note: we provided feedback to the manager and received apologies and free coffee.... (Did bump the score up by two) <br/>

This place used to be amazing - something has changed. The decor is cute, the outside space is lovely, but the vegetarian selection has gone downhill. If I go here I just order a few sides to pick at, nothing more now. Cocktails are ridiculously overpriced for such tiny, ice-filled things. Stick with breakfast/lunch time and a coffee/juice.
Lishyali
Went there for Dinner. Food was average and 100% overpriced!! $28 for roasted chicken and what I got instead was a overcooked chicken breast covered in ketchup and 4x tiny size gnocchi šŸ™„<br/>No point having a beautiful shed but customers leaving still hungry!
Praneeta
First photo is the breakfast board with gluten free option. This was very subtle on the flavours ,the only enjoyable items were the hash browns and spicy chorizo. Wsnt the best poached eggs ive ever had. The second photo was the curious chook also as a GF option. Chicken was well done but this meal also bland in flavoues. I also had the maple iced coffee which was divine. Overall a nice place for brunch on a sunny day, great ambience but the poach could do with some perfecting

2 people ate dinner here on. Friday night. We had olives soaked in olive oil with bread sticks and truffle dip. Our mains arrived. Pork belly with pickled cabbage, braised veges and apple purĆ©e. I had king fish with asparagus, edamame beans and brocolini. The food was plated well and the service was fast and warm. The decor/ atmosphere is a country barn/ garden theme. The cost was very reasonable. Sadly what stuffed up the meal was the waitress who reached over while we were eating to take empty plates. Give her some etiquette trainingšŸ˜£. A lovely restaurant. Weā€™ll will be back. ( hopefully the waitress will have read this).

Have visited this place many times and have had a variety of experiences from great to average.<br/><br/>For breakfast a few times-the beans were amazing but when they are busy the service can be a bit slow so get here early or late.<br/><br/>Lunch menu is concise but with great options- we had the chicken sandwich, shared Kumara chips and my friends had the vege handmade pasta. All were tasty... <br/><br/>There is a nice outdoor area out the back and their wine list is good so good for an evening or afternoon drink/meal.
Chantelle Wolloner
The Atmosphere was amazing, sadly food took an hour to come out, which was average. They also forgot part of our meal, which we got refunded.
Aimee.
Nice atmosphere and ambience - lots of cute decorations. Service was average (waitress forgot our order multiple times and asked questions that were unnecessary). Food took quite a while to come. Not a lot of vegan or vegetarian options at all.
Jan
Had lunch with a friend here, scorching hot day and we ordered the shed sangria to start. Very disappointed as you can see in the photo the amount of ice vs the actual drink. $25. <br/><br/>The sharing plate is good - fried chicken and cured ham were tasty also came with a variety of sauces and dips. Not likely to revisit.

Good, attentive service, fresh and tasty seafood pasta- although i got a fettuccine and not linguine as per menu. The eggs on quinoa cakes were scrumptious too. Great casual vibe to the place. Cant fault it.

Came here for an anniversary. The service was great, all waitresses had a smile on their face and the girl who served us was wonderful and clearly knew all about service. The layout of the store was also very nice and stuck to the theme. We ordered some onion rings for nibbles and they were really nice and crispy. My partner ordered the seafood linguine and this chocolate infused crafted beer. The beer was nice but the seafood linguine had a tomato-based sauce which was slightly over-powering for a seafood dish. It would've been nice to make the linguine with a more light and creamy sauce to make the seafood deliciousness stand out. Also not enough seafood in there. I ordered the Angus rump steak with shoestring fries and salad. The steak was nice but was a bit cold and a little unevenly cooked. The fries were good but a tad too salty and the salad was too sweet which was the only thing I didn't eat after the first bite. I would come back though because the breakfast and lunch menu looks really nice and it's worth giving it another try.

Had lunch here today sitting outside and it was a beautiful day. Food was good and so was the service but after the meals, no staff come to check whether we want more drinks, coffee or dessert. Back again after few weeks, the service was excellent and so the service.

Don't get over to Mt. Eden very often but we were heading to a concert that way so decided to give it a go.Ā  Great local restaurant.Ā  3 of us shared a big platter and had originally ordered a main each.Ā  The platter came out and was so generous that we cancelled the mains (which the friendly waiter did without any problem) and just shared another couple of entrees - plenty of food and very tasty.Ā  The empanadas were a highlight with a nice zing.Ā  Only slight niggle is that once we had our first drink it was hard to get the waiters attention for further drinks - but this certainly wouldn't stop us going back.Ā  Particularly if we didn't live so far away from it.
Simone
Service was horrible! We arrived and werenā€™t even greeted and ended up standing around for 5 mins before one of the staff members helped us. They werenā€™t even friendly and seemed as if they wanted to be anywhere else but at work. We then wait 20 minutes to get served when people that came 10 mins after us already had their drinks. Food was average but definitely wonā€™t be visiting again due to the service.

We got the onion rings to start, a raspberry lemon soda, Gardenerā€™s Brunch and the Curious Chook. <br/>The onion rings were amazing. Perfectly fried and crispy, it went really well with their tomato sauce. <br/>The soda is delicious and refreshing too. <br/>The chicken for the Curious Chook was slightly over cooked and that ruined the whole dish for my fiancĆ©. <br/>For my one, the quinoa cakes were delicious and went really well with the mushroom and poached egg. Only found out today that Iā€™m not a fan of Salsa Verde at all, but thatā€™s just a personal preference. <br/><br/>The atmosphere is really nice sitting in the garden. The staff are super friendly too, so no problem with service. I just hoped the food would have been a bit better.

We dined here tonight with a party of 6 adults, two young children. The service was great and the food we found to be outstanding! I ordered the roast turkey which was delicious, hubby got the crispy pork belly which was cooked to perfection (very crispy crackling skin). My brother and his fiancĆ© ordered empanadas as one of their sharing plates which hubby and I also tried - they were out of this world! So tasty and the chorizo added a kick. Iā€™ll definitely order a whole plate for myself next time. The kids shared the fish and chips which were of a much higher standard than your regular fish and chip shop. The apple pie dessert was divine, baked fresh when you order. We all had a great night and we will definitely be back!

Heard a lot about garden Shed. Always wanted to go and finally had the chance of going. Love the theme ! Feels like nature :) <br/><br/>Got myself some chicken as the entree and had burger as the main meal! It's a beef burger and it comes with shoestring fries! <br/><br/>Would love to go back for more and try out the other dishes! :)

I came to a function here and the atmosphere and flare of the place is outstanding! The garden shed has a great vibe and fantastic outdoor space for every event - my only down side was when my meal came out everything was cold (except my meat - a plus as obviously everything else had been preplated). However we were a large (40pax) group so this may not have been avoidable and overall I really enjoyed my experience

Great food, great atmosphere. Hard to fault! Love the vegetarian breakfast, will definitely be returning, keep up the good work! Great little addition to Mount Eden Village.

If you like courtyards then check this one out. Its gorgeous. The food and service is consistently excellent. Local produce, fresh vibrant ingredients, and some salivating dishes. Fresh aoili makes their fries a must. The coffee is very good and they have a great range of beer. Enjoy!

The Garden Shed has a lush environment with lots of greenery. It's a great place for family or to hire. The staff are friendly and the premises are very clean.<br/><br/>The starters are filling and delicious - Marinated olives and the House Terracotta Bread is a great starter to a beautiful meal.<br/><br/>The portion and quality of the food are well worth the price - look at the Shed Burger. There's a wonderful vegetarian option - the veggie patch. The drinks are beautifully presented. A great location outside the city. I would highly recommend this place.
Kim King
Food and staff were amazing.Ā  We had such a variety of food between the five of us and not one of us was disappointed.<br/>Such a wonderful atmosphere .Ā  Cant wait to go back again.
Cnjo
Delicious food and beautiful atmosphere - perfect for a sunny day or a cosy rainy day. Staff are amazing and very attentive! Highly recommended!

Recommend the beef burger and vibe but disappointing list of wines. Sadly service from management seems to be the worst esp. response time in contacting a customer bit of a joke.
Adeline
Great food. Had the house baked bread, arancini, and empanadas. The pesto and chimicurri was great. The starters were really filling so didny end up having mains.

Beautifully decorated cafe right in the heart of Mt Eden village. Amazingly tasty food and best coffee around. Literally best coffee.<br/>I go there almost every weekend for breakfast and despite place looks busy there are always tables available and friendly staff will promptly serve you drinks and bring out menu<br/>Definitely worth visiting!
Caroline Rowe
So good! Platter enough for 3 - 4 people and fresh and delicious. <br/>Very creative platters and garden theme is consistent throughout. Nice atmosphere and friendly service.

This is a cute and slightly more intimate location. The food portions are huge and tasty = well worth the price in my opinion. The service received was really good. The only minor 'pitfall' of this place is the limited wine selection.
Anna
The Garden Shed is a very cute cafe located in the busy Mt Eden. Parking can prove to be challenging with only 30min zones on the side street. <br/><br/>Am absolutely in love with the atmosphere and the decor. The place may seem busy, but the service is excellent and the food comes out quickly. For two, we ordered the beef burger and fish cakes. The beef patty is so tastey and filled with such fresh herbs. We would have liked it to be a slightly more medium rare. <br/><br/>Can't wait to be back to try more of the menu!
Holly Swallow
Dined for dinner with a friend, she had the ravioli and I had the vege patch salad. Not many options for GF/DF. Was okay - not the most amazing salad and quite expensive for a salad. <br/>Atmosphere was great and the staff were friendly. Would probably come back for coffee and drinks again.
Rina
Visited over lunch on a weekday, after having been once before for dinner a few months ago. It's still pretty busy over lunch! The service is rather light and the waitresses always look busy, but they are totally on top of checking whether you need a new drink šŸ‘Œ read my full šŸ¤” on instagram: @rina.eats<br/><br/>Pulled pork burger<br/>There wasn't much sauce in the pulled pork, but the flavor was suitable for a burger, and the consistency tender and juicy! The slaw fell all over the place though, so this was quite the mess to eat šŸ˜‚ <br/><br/>Although the salad was very much a DIY salad (massive lettuce leaves), the balance of veg-meat-carbs was perfect for a lunch, and all the veg were super duper fresh šŸ’•

Great place for any occasion. Wonderful ambience in each section of the restaurant. We were sat at the back in the garden area which was beautiful with a fireplace going as well as the heaters and blankets on each chair keeping everyone warm. Great strong coffee and good food. <br/>
Crackerjacker
Loved the setting and ambiance of the place. The food was an absolute delight especially the smores that you construct yourself, make sure you shares this with someone else because I could definitely not eat all of it, coming from someone that eats a lot šŸ˜Š food took a bit of time to arrive possible because we were a group of 7
Sue Wood
Lovely food, friendly staff. Pleasant outside area or more intimate areas inside. Can be very noisy outside at peak times and also cold in winter despite heaters and blankets
STRADS
Seafood risotto with prawns, clams, calamari & saffron was excellent. Fish cakes with poached egg, potato & salad were nice too. We had a skillet pie, baked with pear, vanilla bean ice cream & caramel sauce, for dessert to share. Again, lovely. Chai lattƩ & coffee were hot. A well-deserved high rating. (Food - 4.5/5; Service - 4/5; Ambience - 3/5)

My boyfriend and I went here still morning, and we're super hungry after a tough workout. We both got a smoothie the summer garden and the energiser with added protein powder. Both were nice. The food was also good. I ordered the gardeners brunch which was flavoursome and super filling! The atmosphere of this place is also something to mention. There's something nice about being surrounded by nature and loads of plants so big ups to the garden shed for delivering on that as well.
Nikki
Came last night, quite busy on a Monday. Got free breadsticks which were awesome. Staff were lovely and accommodating. Nice and warm inside. Quite expensive and not a lot of mains to choose from. Fries were amazing!! Smores were a cool thing to do as well! Overall good time but expensive :)
Jasmine Woods
Really good food, although the options were limited. Great atmosphere and reasonably efficient service. Would definitely go back for another round, maybe on a day which is less busy. I would have like to have sat outside in the garden which was full on the Sunday which I went. Overall, a great spot for a feed and a chat.
AA
Came here last week on a rainy weekend. Its a garden in Mt Eden serving beer. - Yes indeed, you will be given a flower pot to put your utensils and you could see spades and watering can glued on the wall. That's how wonderful the ambience was. Such a shame the outdoor garden was full when I came.<br/>Cold brew coffee and beer to accompany me while watching rainfall outside.<br/>The egg benedict was delicious and Chicken wings was crispy ( wonder whats their secret)<br/>Great place to hangout with friends! šŸ˜„
Olivia Hammond
The food is good (I had the vegetarian shed burger) and it came out relatively quickly, however the service is average. The staff were not too friendly and seemed annoyed by our presence, in fact they acted as if we were a burden to them. I might consider going again because the food is nice but the customer service was a real downfall.
Georgia Vossen
This place is freaking awesome, I was amazing by the decor and the atmosphere of the place as well as how big it actually is! Doesn't seem to be that big from the road. It has a very cool vibe, plants everywhere, very comfortable and cozy. The menu is one of those that is difficult to pick something because just every dish sounds so bloody good, they even have cheese board platters you can share.. my god yes. I got the quinoa patties with poached eggs that were beyond perfect (if you like your yolk runny) meal was a good size and EXTREMELY delicious, lots of flavours and subtle tasty twists. Staff helpful and lovely, you even get a couple cute bags of seeds when you pay and leave, such a cool place.
Brandon Li
My gf and I went there for lunch today and ordered The Shed Burger and 2 smoothies. The place is nice and there are blankets if you sit outside. Food wise is a bit overrated. The burger itself is quite overpriced and it taste ok. Food took awhile to get to us due to being weekend so that's understandable. Service is not bad. Not sure why they didn't offer more for brunch on weekends.
Ieseon
Love this place, although pricy still worth the food and the ambience! They have great vibe with friendly staff. Love love love the garden at the back mimicking a small waterfall, if it's as though I was within nature. Love the decor in the inside too with the old a school wheelbarrow and garden tools. The food is well made and tasty. It's great for dinner and lunch
Emily
Had fish cakes and the shed burger here on a sunday. It took about an hour for the food to arrive which was a little frustrating and would have been good to know there was going to a be a wait when we ordered. Had a toddler with us so he was getting agitated and bored. Not the most child friendly cafe but the food was delicious. Had a summer smoothie which tasted like nothing else but banana which was a shame.. would have liked to taste a bit more zingy passionfruit! Probably wont be back here with a toddler but maybe again with a friend :)
Lukas Montecristo
Easily located on the main cafe fringe of Mt Eden.<br/><br/>Excellent atmosphere!<br/><br/>The menu options are limited- therefore vegetarian are also limited. But the quality and flavours are delicious.<br/><br/>Presentation of the dishes are great.<br/><br/>Not much options for vegetarians though.
Sid
Really enjoyed this restaurant, they have a pretty garden in the back. Awesome customer service and the food was really good. Decent price for what I ordered. Totally would go Again.
Joan Sinclair
Great atmosphere, lovely staff members however we tried the smores that were advertised on Facebook and were underwhelmed. The chocolate ganache that came out was like runny, watered down chocolate icing made from icing sugar. Ganache is meant to be made with chocolate and cream. Having said that, other reviews are shown to have better consistency so maybe we just had a one off.
Desiree Jennifer
I went with a couple of my friends to try the Smore's they have newly introduced. The menu states that you will receive marshmellows, graham crackers and chocolate ganache.Ā <br/><br/>I can see some of the photos below and when the platter came out for my friends and I we received big marshmellows, giant graham crackers and something far from chocolate ganache. First off the chocolate we received did not come in the bowl like container I see in photos below, it came in a little jar similar to the candles they have burning on the table, with not even half full of chocolate "sauce"Ā <br/><br/>When I say sauce I mean it was made with cocoa powder and water because that was not thick ganache that we received. The taste was cheap and unsatisfying as well as being way too runny to even have it on the cracker and marshmellow without it totally sliding off.<br/><br/>It was one of my friends birthday so we were somewhat excited to try the smore's but were dissapointed with the what we received. I would say this is more just for show and to take nice instagram photos. The biscuit was like eating a ginger nut and I didn't mind that, marshmellows were nice and plump and caramelized nicely, but the sauce was not very nice and didn't give you the decadent feel you would be expecting.<br/><br/>The price for them was astronomical paying a whopping $25 for 3 biscuits.<br/> <br/><br/>I have tried the coffee also - and would like to add it would be nicer if the machine was clean as not to give a bitter taste. The juices were nice however and the fries good too.<br/><br/>I would be willing to try something else on the menu but would not recommend the smores or coffee to friends.
Tanvi Kumar Rao
Nice ambience and customer service.<br/>Menu had limited options for the lunch.<br/>Wish they had more healthy meal options.<br/>Will try them again for dinner to explore options in the menu.
Christina Hibbard
Came here for mid week for a family celebration dinner.<br/>I was impressed with the range of beers on offer and the salty seaweed wheat beer was delicious. Food started off okay but was overall not impressive. Onion rings, ribs and onions soup were tasty. The Rissotto was less enjoyable. The prawn in the were over cooked and not very flavoursome. <br/>If I was come back I'll stick to the beer and shared plates.

Partner's parents came up to Auckland and wanted to try a nice place for breakfast/brunch. With a little research settled upon The Garden Shed and quite pleased we did so. The place was bustling when we got there but we were greeted promptly, seated and given water while we were deciding what to have and drink.<br/><br/>Decided on fried chicken, mug of the harvest soup (tortilla soup), two of the breakfast boards, the shed burger, the curious chook. Drinks we got the cherry & pomegranate and lemon & raspberry shed sodas, and mochas. Almost everything was delicious! The fried chicken was done so nicely and the hot sauce was yum with it. The burgers were huge and super yum, cooked perfectly and the fries were salty deliciousness. The sodas were very light and refreshing.Ā <br/><br/>Only two complaints were the service could have been a tad better, just waited a bit to get our orders and find/hail our waitress, but really wasn't too terrible. The mochas however were not chocolatey at all, a bit burnt and needed a good amount of sugar added to make drinking it manageable which was disappointing.Ā <br/><br/>The atmosphere was charming and well done. Easy to hear people you were with not loud at all. Touches like pots to hold fries or cutlery were cute and the decor was wonderful and made the experience feel like you were part of the outdoors and garden life without all the mess. Would go back for sure!

This is a very cool little cosy place. Was impressed with the get up and ambiance of it. We did brunch and I got the breakfast board which is like the big breaky and it was delicious. The high light for me was their spicy chorizo. They make good coffee and have friendly staff that greet you and even help with suggestions if you are undecided on what to get. All in, was a pleasant experience and would definitely visit again.
Mona Krsteva
Discovered this place last weekend! Beautiful atmosphere and ambience inside, excellent service, coffee was perfect. Tried the eggs benny and buckwheat pancakes. Eggs were cold (only negative about the whole experience) otherwise very tasty food. Would definitely come again.
Priyanka Champanerkar Nayak
Decor and ambience is fantastic. <br/>Food is below average. Ordered the ravioli which was tasteless. Not many options on the menu. Would not visit again.
Saskia Vitas
My friends and I paid about $14 each if I remember correctly, for the smallest glass of Rose I have ever come across. Ā Not too impressed. However the food, atmosphere and service were great.
Sahar Izd
Both food and service was very good. Very cosy environment. And staff were very nice and helpful. Enjoyed my night there and will definitely go back.

The place looks amazing inside and out is spacious and has an incredible garden setting so definitely impressive. Me and my partner came in for brunch and we're excited and expected great quality food...<br/><br/>...When it came to the food part we were very poorly let down, the meatball dish my partner had came out dry and blsnd and the only seasoning she could taste was cumin (which was disappointing).<br/><br/>I had brekkie with the usual eggs, bacon and sourdough...the sourdough bread that I had was hard as a rock to cut through and when eating it was chewy and wasn't the best, rest of my meal was alright.<br/><br/>The place offers so much potential but was severely let down by the food on offer expecting more from it, hopefully the next time I go they can make it better

Todayā€™s post is about one of my favourite food places in Auckland. I shouldā€™ve written about The Garden Shed a long time ago because Iā€™ve been here multiple times butĀ I was only able to take better photos during the weekend when I went with other NZ Bloggers for the monthly Brunchclub.

Our experience here did not start well, it was very busy and, after we couldn't get anyone's attention for several minutes, we seated ourselves. Cue another 15 minutes of trying the get the staff's attention and being ignored. Once we finally did get a waiter to help us, he was very friendly and attentive. We ordered the Spanish eggs and a beef burger, both very tasty, very impressed. Nice selection of craft beers too. Will return.

The garden shed is super lovely. Very cute inside. Great for a special family occasion. <br/>I went with my boyfriend and his mum and it was perfect. The food was really good. Great menu and awesome wine selection.

Came here today for a bit of lunch. I had the beef burger and my partner had the pulled pork bun. Both were really nice. but the salad with the pulled pork had no dressing on it at all which was a shame. Our fries were unseasoned. But they are both minor issues really. Friendly staff. We will be back. Thanks.

Very lively for a very rainy Thursday lunchtime. Popular with a wide range of people from couples, to mums with their kids to ladies who lunch. I had the Pulled pork roll with pickled onion and skinny chips and a pilsner. The food was delicious. Tasty and a nice variety of textures. My companion had the beef burger and fries which was big and tasted great. Nice to see them not shy away from cooking a burger so it's still retaining some pink centre and moisture.<br/>Great meal.
S&G Take Auckland
Came here this arvo for a cheeky lunch and boy was it good !<br/><br/>Ghaz and I shared a beef and cheddar burger with fries and aracini balls.<br/><br/>The burger was delish. You could see the patties were freshly made with herbs right through them. The onion rings in the burger were crispy and juicy. The fries were hands down some of the best fries ever made! Shoestring cut crispy and hot. The aioli was a beaut too.<br/><br/>Aracini balls were good again and a for 4 in a serve we were both super full after.<br/><br/>Our waitress was so lovely and all the staff were super friendly. <br/><br/>We were sitting in the front of the restaurant but then spotted the secret backyard . Make sure you sit there because it's a lovely sheltered shed with excellent plant displays . I was going to give this place a 4.5 as I'm scared of birds and the sparrows that kept flying in were freaking me out, however Ghaz wouldn't allow it this place does deserve a 5/5! Thanks guys can't wait to be back PS the blankets they have in the outdoor area are soooooo fluffy and comfy !
Bri DiMattina
Ceviche was my choice and really well done - fresh slightly spicy ceviche and super fresh taco chips make a huge difference. My tip - I had real food envy for the burgers, that arrived at the other end of the table (I think they had inside info!!) so if you come here really hungry - grab that burger!! Ā Ā <br/><br/>The grand finale ... A large sharing platter of S'mores. Delicious, interactive, messy (check out the amount of marshmallow on the 'flame pot') but so much fun. Toast your own GIANT marshmallow square - dip in runny chocolate sauce and squish between two homemade honey biscuits and try to bite into it without landing all the filling on your lap!!! Go with friends ...

Despite being busy all the time, The Garden Shed is certainly worth the experience.<br/><br/>I've dined here for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Some of the things that keep me coming back are extremely attentive customer service, excellent coffee, delicious food - particularly the sharing platters and an excellent selection of beer.<br/><br/>During the day, I prefer dining in the back of the restaurant, which has a beautifully designed garden theme, with an organic, earthy appearance. Ideal for a social experience as it has a nice buzz to it. At night, I prefer dining indoors, which has a warmer, more intimate vibe. Ā <br/><br/>The food has never failed to disappoint and comes across as fresh, organic and flavourful. There is nearby street parking as well which is also a bonus. As it is quite the hot spot, it would certainly pay to call in and book in advance, but if you find yourself waiting for a table, it is totally worth the wait!

The vegan tortellini was so delicious. I will definitely be going back to The Garden Shed, and recommend it to anyone keen on a filling vegan meal full of flavour.

Monday lunchtime, not at all busy. Dining alone. Inventive menu, lots of well-thought-out options.<br/><br/>Friendly, upbeat greeting from front of house lady, shown to the seat of my choice and I was asked if I would like a drink. I ordered a flat white and was left with my menu. For 15 minutes. No wait staff. No coffee. I was seated outside, down the side of the building - perhaps that was the problem. Regardless, it shouldn't be mine. With the low level of busyness I figured a fast turnaround on coffee, and an offer to take my order when it arrives. I was ready. <br/><br/>A waiter eventually arrived to take my order. I should have asked about the coffee but didn't. I saw the same waiter a few minutes later. He put a coffee down at an empty table and then disappeared for a minute or so, then picked it up and disappeared again. <br/><br/>Finally a different lady brought my coffee. I hoped it wasn't the one that had been abandoned. I think it was though. It was pretty cool, and the crema had sunk. I caught waiter on his way past and said the coffee was pretty cool, was it the one that had been doing the rounds? Yes he said, they must have mixed the table numbers up. I had moved up ONE table in a row of four. He had taken my order - was it that hard to put two and two together? And please, don't abandon a coffee then try to serve it to a customer. Yuck!<br/><br/>However, he caught on and said they will make me another one. Meal arrived shortly after that, and then the coffee.<br/><br/>I had the gardeners breakfast (quinoa cakes) which was really nice, beautifully cooked. I was two thirds of my way through the meal when the waiter returned and asked me how the meal was, while surreptitiously putting down a set of salt and pepper. I had wondered where that was, but as I couldn't see any on other tables, and didn't want to go looking and leave my food and bag unattended, and I saw no wait staff out there in the desert, I just got on with my food, which was ok without it, which shows the calibre of the actual food. However, I did use the salt and pepper because I like more seasoning.<br/><br/>Never saw the waiter again. Was a warm day and would have been nice to have had an offer of a water top up, or a bottle. Would have passed on the comment that the service seemed a bit of an afterthought, and left it at that, had I been asked at the till. I normally don't bother with a review, but off-hand, lazy, dim service, annoys me sufficiently to go to the effort. I would have given a 1 for the service, but that wouldn't be fair to the quality of the food which was about a 4.5.
Coco_Clairy
It's really a nice experience in this restaurant. I have been there twice already. The burger is amazing, and so do all other food I tried. Waiters are friendly. They offered us burgers even though we missed lunch hours.
Lisa Stirling
My food this timeā€¦ the burger here is perfection. Fries were hot, aioli dip well prepared. Meat cooked to perfection (medium rare). Service just right: not too much or too little, polite and attentive. Food and drink arrived in perfect time.<br/>The Food<br/>Itā€™s tasty, freshly cooked food by a proper chef (no bought in ready-prepared meals), and is value for money<br/>The Decor<br/>The atmosphere is great, lively and the elbow room is sufficient.Ā Ā Ā  This interior is simple with room for dozens of indoor potted plants.Ā  Many have been arranged on recycled wood, and even hang from the walls and ceilings.<br/>The Staff<br/>Prompt friendly and welcoming.Ā  Always available, constantly checking in and refilling our drinks without being intrusive.

Going to Mt Eden for lunch? Be sure to stop by and have a wonderful experience at The Garden Shed on Mt Eden Rd in main block of shops. European themed food offering king sized burgers , served on a wooden board with skinny fries and very nice salads. Lovely beer and wine, smoothies and kombucha available too..Really delicious desserts ..with two in our group having apple pie ..and one had pannacotta...Popular with the locals and visiting public .The staff are very friendly and helpful. .
Ann R
Very lush and trendy cafe tucked away in Mt Eden. Reminded me of garden center cafes the way it's decorated in the outdoor area. Delicious coffees and sweet treats. The food caters for a range of appetites from morning to night.
Leonardo Law
What a cool place in the heart of Mt Eden! I have recommended this place to many of my friends and they all loved it there. They also have healthy protein smoothie options! Great for me!
Alienbabe
A girls lunch out was delightful here. Food was tasty and interesting. Each of us enjoyed our meals. I had gioat cheese pate, another had salad, and another had a sandwich. <br/><br/>The courtyard out the back was a treat, on this rainy day, e are under cover in a cute garden setting. <br/>We've planned a return trip. A lovely spot where the front doesn't do it justice.
J.T547
I have come here a couple of times for lunch and dinner and the service was impeccable! Very lovely and attentive staff. The food was super fresh and tasty and beautifully presented. I would recommend the mushroom ravioli, it's a very unique take on the dish. Book a table here as it gets very busy!
KG
My partner and I arrive at 7pm for dinner. We were greeted by a lovely bunch of employees which made for a good beginning to the night. We were lucky enough to get a seat outside which I recommend as their outside decor is beautiful - lovely colourful plants as far as the eye can see. We received a complimentary item from the chef, as did everyone that which was a bonus. We order the bread for an entree. Which was served nice and warm with a unique twist as it appears to be baked in the flower pot shown in the picture! Next up was the burgers and chips. They did not disappoint! I couldn't even finish the meal! Would definitely recommend this place to friends. Would love to return again. Overall great customer service, food and atmosphere.
Good Food, Good Mood
Awesome cafe in Mt Eden. Service was a bit slow if you're sitting outside. Eggs beni on potato rosti was simple and great but they didn't have any asparagus. Freshly squeezed OJ which is always a plus in cafes.
I_like_pickles
Came here with a friend for an afternoon drink. Busy place during the afternoon with most people opting to sit outdoors. Service is quick and friendly but they did try to get us to leave lol. They put the bill on the table and told us where to pay haha<br/><br/>I love the decor and the garden theme of the restaurant. It's a very family friendly environment and I love how they add the flowers to the drink. They also give you a packet of seeds when you leave.<br/><br/>It sucks that it's so busy in the Mt Eden Village that it's incredibly difficult to find close parking.<br/><br/>Update: I love the different flavours you can get for the lattes like red velvet and Matcha. The S'mores board is very interesting as well.
Steph
My friends and I went to The Garden shed today. The food was good especially the Skinny Fries however they were a little bit too salty. My Buckwheat Pancakes were very average however the other two savoury dishes we ordered were above average. The most upsetting thing was that they took at least 30 minutes serving our food.
Christine Yeh
If the amazing food there isn't enough, go there for the wonderful decor and atmosphere and the inviting staff. <br/>I had the veggie patch salad and you could just tell the ingredients and produce were fresh and good quality. Will definitely be back sometime!
Heidi M
I had the Veggie Patch which is a salad and a summer garden drink (very yummy).<br/>The salad was very good everything complemented each other. My only issue <br/>would be to make a few pieces of lettuce smaller and I'd prefer it without olives.<br/>I also quiet enjoyed the Atmosphere would return here when in the area.
Bella Qian
Came here for valentines dinner and it was amazing. We had a reservation and were promptly seated next to the fireplace, the atmosphere was amazing. We had their raspberry and lemon soda as well as their cola soda for drinks, both which were really good. For main we got some things to share. The goat cheese and flatbread was really good and light. Their fried chicken was absolutely amazing, the hot sauce it came with was so flavourful. We also tried their onion rings which were oily but really tasty as the batter had flavour. We also had their shrimp which was nice but a bit boring. For dessert we had their apple pie which me and my partner loved, it's baked to order which is something you don't get often. I also tried their coffee which was so silky and smooth. Overall a really good experience.

Excellent service, faultless food and beautiful atmosphere! Also reasonably priced, will definitely be returning! We had the Crispy Chicken to start, for mains the Curious Chook and Shed Burger with a soda each- great portions and everything so full of flavour!
G
Such beautiful surroundings. Sitting outdoors in this nice summery weather was lovely. The food was equally amazing and beautifully presented. Pancakes were great, maybe a little over done but still good. The fish cakes were apparently really good too. Not too long of a wait. They give you seeds to plant when you pay, living up the name of the cafe, which was cute.
Travis
If I could give it 6 stars I would. Best burger had in Auckland. Absolutely cannot go wrong with this place! Great craft beer, superb food but greatest burgers.
Amy Nicol
This place is yummy.Ā  A little pricey but comparative to many places in Mt Eden.Ā  Best thing about the place is the dĆ©cor and beautifully presented food
Jazmin Lee
The best! Atmosphere was amazing, the service was amazing and they gave us free snacks! We had lamb meatballs for starters and I had mushroom gnocchi as my main. My boyfriend had the Angus beef burger and we had cherry and Pom soda + lemon and raspberry soda. The menu was full of variety and I can't wait to come back to try them all! The food was filling for a very reasonable price! 10/10 recommend! They even give you kale seeds after to plant šŸ˜‚šŸ‘ŒšŸ¾ definitely worth the drive to come here.

Mt Eden Road has another good lookin' bloke ā€˜round the corner. Next to De Post and Scarlett and Slimms, the Garden Shed is a haven of rustic charm, wholesome food andā€¦ lots of synthetic ivy. Upon entering the bistro-cafĆ© you'll see metal buckets adorning the ceiling, mini trowels as bar taps and business cards disguised as seed packets ā€” everything from the fully-turfed restrooms down to the waiter's muslin/leather get-up was so on theme, you almost get overwhelmed. Almost. Our waiting manager was jovial but laid back, even serving us an extra bowl of fries in apology to the long waiting time (it was peak hour on a Friday) ā€” there was nothing to forgive but all was forgiven. You'd fall in love with Joe's prawn & quinoa salad, and Annie's mushroom dish (the portobellos were almost the size of our faces). We'd definitely return for the dinner menu, perhaps on the outside porch (adorned with a mini-jungle, outdoor fire, corrugated water feature and garden gnomes).Ā <br/><br/>Check out our individual comments here: husk.co.nz/lunches/the-garden-shed-july-2015

They stuck to the theme...friendly staff...the order was fulfilled quickly and tasted nice. The music wasn't great but everything else was. Overall a good experience.

Really so so. Walked in and the place looked great and we were warmly welcomed and sat to accommodate a toddler. Then things drifted down hill. Three requests for water (after they offered) and half a glass turned up. Normally I'm a pessimist so this didn't dose well. I can see the window in a glass of wine being classy but in water I want to drink like a savage! Both the chicken burger and green salad (veges patch)were only average with the chicken tenderloin a little dry. Struggling to see how what was essentially a cos lettuce salad (yes the olives were great and the pomegranates added great tang) was THE most expensive dish on the brunch menu. Good think I'm on a diet or I'd be really let down and still hungry. <br/><br/>Let down from the hype, reviews and good gf menu options.

My partner and I decided at the last minute to eat out on New Year's Eve and thought we'd try our luck here.Ā <br/>The service was fantastic, we were promptly greeted and offered different locations for seating. The waiter timed his check ins well so it didn't feel overbearing but we never had to wait for what we wanted.Ā <br/><br/>The presentation and taste of our cocktails (Maple Whiskey Sour and Bramble) was impeccable and our entrees arrived quickly. We were also presented with complimentary pastry/bread sticks with pumpkin hummus which was delicious. Our mains were the roasted chicken breast and the pappardelle which were heavenly with portion sizes that were just right.<br/><br/>The only slightly disappointing thing was overhearing a manager (we assume) telling our waiter off for conversing too long with the customers behind us. It wasn't very busy and he didn't seem like he knew them, just being genuine and friendly. However, we'll be back again because otherwise I couldn't think of a single fault with our experience. The seeds given to us with our bill was a lovely touch.

Our first impression walking through the main entrance was that it looked like just a bar but later found there is plenty of seating and the place is a lot bigger than it looks! The atmosphere is very relaxed and as if your sitting outside in a garden ā€“ as the name suggests. They have quite a few good areas that would cater for large groups. <br/><br/>Starting with drinks, I opted for the Cherry and pomegranate soda. The flavour sounded unusual and I was keen to try it out. It was definitely worth it! Loved the flavour combination and freshness to it. My friend ordered ā€˜The Essentialā€™. Both drinks were well presented but we preferred the soda out of the two. <br/><br/>The menu is long with a great assortment of dishes. We were both interested in the Bloody Mary which they describe as ā€˜breakfast in a glassā€™ with some unusual ingredients such as Waiwera vodka, spicy pickles and pork crackle. We also saw the Shed burger being served to several tables nearby ā€“ it was huge and the presentation gave us food envy. Despite this we ordered the Gardeners brunch and the Line caught potato and fish cakes. The Gardeners brunch was not what I thought it would be. From the menu and comparing to other cafes I thought it would have been a bigger portion. Although it was presented well it looked small and was a stack of the ingredients listed on the menu. The quinoa cakes were a little bland for my liking, but I enjoyed the mushrooms and salsa verde. The fish cakes were presented much the same. Itā€™s not something my friend would usually go for but she was happy with her choice. <br/><br/>Love the look and feel to this place and the design of their menus.Ā <br/><br/>They have a lot to offer and plenty of options on the menu. Worth a visit if youā€™re in the area, even if it's just for a soda.

Great set up and vibe. Food presentation also amazing. Food itself could improve given the price - meat was dry, sangria was bit bland. Service from Natalie was brilliant though.

Today was the first time i went to the garden shed. The place was quite busy but we were seated promptly. Ā The first thing that i noticed about the place was the lovely and warm staff, funky decor and the yummy smells! I ordered the fish cake and my boss ordered the gardener's brunch. We were both very happy with our food! Hence there were no pictures as the food was quickly demolished without hesitation.Ā <br/><br/>My boss ordered the apple pie and he loved it! unfortunately i was Ā too full Ā today, but I will make sure next time i go back, I will order the apple pie! Their coffee was also good!Ā <br/><br/>Overall I would looove to go back soon to try their dinner menu and will definitely take pictures then!

Amazing place for a sunny day. They were great catering for our rather large group of 7, and accommodated for different diets. Portions are large and the atmosphere is lovely, highly recommend.

A warm welcome from a smiling staff member set the tone from the offset. The ambience was suited to the gorgeous outdoor area<br/>Great selection of food and staff members were attentive and quite funny...<br/>Will go here many times in future

Love love love this place :), I fell inlove with the vibe and how lovely the staff were the look and design of the place is great and the food and coffee couldn't be better it will for sure become a local no doubt about that I just wish it was a wee bit bigger
Travels4Food
Main was average. I had the pasta but it was a bit bland instead of pack full of flavour you would except from a Ragu. The dessert is good. Had the chocolate biscuit and a classic apple pie.

Held a birthday brunch here last weekend and the staff were so accommodating to our requests and were lovely to us. We requested to be seated outside in the garden area although they had to prepare the area for another private function. They didn't rush us and were very polite. When it was time for the private event, we were moved to our indoor reserved seats as planned. The friendly staff helped bring out the birthday cake we brought and served it (with no surcharge). Overall a very smooth experience and we were well looked after despite the cafe being in the Sunday morning rush.

This place is such a hidden gem. Defiantly the most beautiful indoor and outdoor decor in a restaurant I've come across in a long time! Went here for a late lunch with my mum and loved it. Defiantly keen to come back to try their breakfast and dinner menu! Service was also really good.
Roana Bilia
Great place for big groups and family meet ups, the back garden is really nice to sit in but then again so is the inside and the front. All the food is pretty decent, pricey but youre paying for the area and the atmosphere. Sparkling water isnt complimentary for all of you out there who cant seem to brunch without it.
C
Food was ok, not amazing though, expected more for the price. Poached eggs were not runny and completely over cooked, defeating the point of poached eggs. Got charged for an extra coffee we did not order. Won't be back.

Such a pretty cafe! I came here when I was on a special boring diet where I could basically eat leaves but I wanted to hang out with friends. Everyone LOVED their meals and even my leaves were made super interesting with macadamias and haloumi. It was delicious and such a nice environment for a Sunday brunch.
KTY
Beautifully decorated and great service. Tried the breakfast/brunch, potato and fish cakes and the breakfast board, food was tasty but it seemed to fall a bit flat. Guess I was expecting more based on the ratings. I think this place is good for coffee and it has a very romantic outdoor seated area though there are many other breakfast options elsewhere in Mt Eden..
Aleks Lazic
It's really a lovely place. Ā I think it's quite good. Ā I just think it's quite pricey for what it is. Ā I'd rather spend less for the same elsewhere. Ā But lovely little spot.

First time coming here tonight. They have done a beautiful job of theming the restaurant, even down to minor details like the steak knives and water jugs. Feels like somewhere my grandma would love. <br/><br/>We were offered a choice of sparkling or still water, and given complimentary breadsticks with an absolutely beautiful hummus mix, followed by an entree of calamari, mussel and prawn arancini with watercress. Both were presented well, again with very fine attention to detail. <br/><br/>They have a wide variety of drinks available as well, including a full cocktail menu - regrettably did not get the Bloody Mary, though it seems like quite a unique and interesting one.<br/><br/>We both ordered the 250gm steaks. Only complaint - I ordered mine rare and it came out very much a medium rare. Still very pleasant with the mushroom sauce. <br/><br/>Service was quick and polite. No complaints here. I didn't walk away with the wow factor, but still a very enjoyable night out, with fantastic food.

Stopped by on Sunday with a friend - our first time here.<br/><br/>Great environment- out the back is definitely farm house / shed themed :)<br/>Open fire place and blankets to use if your a little cold.<br/><br/>We only stayed for a snack so we ordered a couple of iced mochas - delicious :) <br/>The bread, spicy chicken & skinny fries :)<br/><br/>Food was nice - the bread in the flower pot was a little small but would suit for 2 people.<br/><br/>We will likely come back and try some mains.<br/><br/>

Love the feel and look of this place - very warm and quaint; perfect for an unwind on a Sunday arvo. Great service and delicious food - will definitely come back here again!!

Great place to hang out with friends! Brunch is really good and I like the environment here! It has lots of dishes can choose and everyday many peoples come here

Garden Shed is one of those few places that gives you a feel good over all experience! Amidst the busy streets of Mount Eden, Garden Shed right away takes you to a different dimension upon entry. The aesthetic details will definitely make you admire more and more. The lightings, garden, wall decors are innovative and full on but won't give you the hustle and bustle feel of the actual location. The food selection is not too much to confuse you of what to order. I have to give the chef a hats off as he definitely nailed the fusion of flavours in every bite that you take. Take the fish cake with eggs benedict as an example. The fish cake with a little topping of egg will give you that orgasmic feeling as you bite and flavours blend all together in your mouth. This isn't even their most popular dish, their burger and cheesecake can keep me going on and on and on. The staff are friendly and every space of the room is utilised well. The restaurant is appealing both night and day time. I recommend it highly to other people who have been eyeing this place. May it be for a group drinks or dinner date, go for it!!!

We had rump with creamy mushroom sauce and potato purƩe and tiny vegetables. Amazing food. The ginger beer was lovely too. Very polite and professional staff. Cosy and warm environment. Creative decorations. Loved it. I'm so going there again. And again.

Just went here for some crafts. So this review is purely based on the bar experience. The brews were few but very good. Bartender was extremely good too. Loved the place, ambience and simple decor. Have to come for a meal here.
Gavin Verhulst
I went here for a quick bite to eat and a coffee. I ordered a charcuterie board that consisted of pate, two slices of sour dough (i think ) toasted, some roughly shopped pickled veg and two pieces of lavosh for $19 odd. When it arrived i was dissapointed at the size of it, i used less than a quarter of the pate on the bread and lavosh. I did say something to the waitress and she conveyed my feelings to the front of house manager who did discount my bill. But please fix your dishes up.

We had a mixed experience... had two staff serve us. One was a friendly chap with big smiles, and the other was a rather grumpy lady. We only had lunch there - the haloumi salad looked abundant and had plenty of haloumi. I had the fish cakes. It was nice, but not amazing. It came with a tasty caper dressing and a simple garden salad. A good solid meal. The interior is pleasant... and it has an outdoor seated area for drinks, and a back indoor garden area. Great ambience.

I have been to The Garden Shed several times now. Compared to many other cafes and restaurants I have been to, the food is average. I have only been here for lunch. My first visit I had the Curious Chook - was ok but wouldnt pay $19.90 for it. My second visit I had the Potato & Line Caught fish cake had not much flavour from the fish cake except the capers in it. Was quite dissapointed with a poached egg that was not that runny and just a plain simple salad with lettuce a sliced piece of tomato and 3 pieces of cucumber on the side. My recent visit I had a soup it was amazing - I really enjoyed it. I do want to come back and try other meals on the menu. And hopefully dinner sometime. The staff are really warm, friendly and efficient. I absolutely love the chai latte and smoothies. I love the way the cafe is decorated - Absolutely amazing.

<br/>I wanted to sit inside the garden area but it was fully booked so I had to sit by the window. <br/><br/>I love their ambience matching well with the concept of the restaurant. <br/><br/>Most of the Main menu were over 30$. Quite pricy. <br/>I was served promptly and nicely by friendly staff.<br/><br/>We ordered beer battered onion rings. They were very crunch and batter was perfectly seasoned. My friend ordered schnapper and I had chicken breast. Perfectly seasoned soft chicken breast with salty prosciutto, creamy goat cheese, sweet apple pieces and creamy potato puree. It was a perfect meal. Portion is very generous I felt very full after my main dish. I couldn't finish the potato puree but I kept eating it because it was so creamy and delicious. I can't wait to visit again and try different menu!

This place is spacious both indoors and outdoors! Myself and a friend got the shed burger. It had such an impressive layout the way it was served! I questioned if I could eat it all but managed! It was tasty and delicious. The service here is also very polite. Also, props to the garden shed for employing attractive staff. The goodbye from the goodlooking bartender (i think he was Malaysian) made me weak at the knees hahaha just kidding.

Came here for dinner with a friend. We saw a salted caramel dessert on social media that they did so we decided to try it out. But when we got there the waiter said they didn't do it anymore. It's a different menu now. Like F*%kkkkk. We missed out šŸ˜¢<br/><br/>But we still ordered there. Had some onion rings to share -and that was pretty average. A bit oily. Kinda like those onion rings you get at... One of those fast food joints. Burger King? I can't remember. More crunchy batter over here though. I ordered their risotto. It was very nice and was a great portion! Very filling. <br/><br/>Service here was great. The waiter there came over to ask how our meals were and stuff and was just very friendly. But yeah overall, nothing too special about this place šŸ˜•

Visited this fresh and healing place before dinner time this afternoon. So I just ordered two small plates. The skinny chips was wonderful with light crispy texture and very matched with tomato sauce. About another plate, also delicious but actually it was not spicy to me. Paid $20.80 for them in total, could not say it was cheap but really reasonable. Staff were kindly.

What a lovely ambience: lots of plants and every little thing match in theme. I was there with my boyfriend about one month ago and took a bread with pesto and butter. It took a while to get it but when it finally came I was really impressed! It was hot (srtaight from the oven) and delicious. The price is quite high (and I thought twice do I really want to pay so much just for a bread) but the bread was worth it. Service was good.

Tinder date time I'd heard the Garden Shed had top notch burgers. Turned up and both waiters were foreign with banter that made me look like a friendly guy from the get go. The waiter from Malaga in Spain deserves a medal. Great service. The brioche bun melted with the meat and the presentation was on point. Great balance of flavours. Would recommend for a future tinder date or even normal dating. When my date hugged me she smelt like burgers which was just unbeatable.

Went there on saturday evening, some people were already sitting down. We were seated promptly, given menus and water. But 15 min later no one had taken our order. A few waiters made eye contact but never approached. Eventually the manager asked if we were ok and apologized. <br/>But it was all upwards from there: <br/>We ordered bread with pesto, marinated olives to start<br/>And for mains we got the eye fillet and ricotta panzotti. <br/>Appetizers arrived quickly, were flavoursome and fresh. <br/>It took about 20 minutes from when they took our appetizer dishes to the arrival of the mains. The flavours were spot on. Panzotti was pure yumminess. <br/>With the steak: the fries were the hero, salad was fresh, sauce was cold (a bit strange), beef was cooked medium as requested:..<br/>Ambience was great and the place nicely decorated appropriate for the theme...<br/>Overall a pleasant experinece and everyone wished us a good night on the way out.. I will definately be back!

This is one of those cozy places that I would just pay to sit in. I visited on a rainy freezing winter evening and we were seated in the garden right next to the roaring fire place,it was the perfect place to enjoy drinks and nibbles! <br/>The food is decent and offered something different from the ordinary.I ordered the Onion rings which were tasty and crunchy but a bit on the oily side. The terracotta bread was warm and tastefully presented. <br/>The house sodas are really tasty and refreshing. I will be back again to try their mains!

Decided to try The Garden Shed after I read several good reviews on Zomato. We had rung up to make a tentative booking on a Wednesday night, and despite being later than we said, the waiter (a lovely Spanish man) who we spoke to was extremely accomodating and seated us almost instantly. Two of us ordered the eye fillet steak with chips, one of us ordered the burger and one ordered the fish. The steak was beautifully cooked and the mushroom sauce that it came with was to die for. The burger and fish were also excellent. Perfect portion sizes - all of us finished our meals and were not overly full or still hungry. The food may be a bit on the pricey side but it was definitely worth it. All of it was delicious and was served with a smile. Definitely somewhere to return to!

Five of us had lunch here last Friday<br/>It started very badly with the booking having been lost<br/>But the staff dealt with that well<br/>The food was all very good<br/>I had some onion rings and goat's cheese pate as entrees both shared<br/>Excellent<br/>then I Ā had the Chicken Bacon Avocado sandwich<br/>The Curious Chook<br/>Excellent craft beer choices

Date night! Should we go for a romantic candle lit choice by popular Ponsonby, soak up the artsy atmosphere on K Rd or have a quiet night in with a bottle of bubblies?. A and I both had had a full on week with great news and wanted to celebrate. Out first choice wasn't open on Sunday nights unfortunately so...
Rachel Sun
Came here on a special occasion. Prices are on the expensive side. I had the fries, and fish cake as they were not surviving pancakes yet. The food is alright, nothing special. The juice tastes great, especially the apple one. But again nothing special. I do like how they have (limited) vegan options as it is hard to find.vegan friendly foods in Mt Eden

I came here last week with my cousin for brunch. We both hadnā€™t been here before so we thought we should try it. Itā€™s a cute little place that reminded me of a cottage. The name of this place certainly lived up to the interior dĆ©cor. The chairs and walls outside are wooden, and theirs lots of garden items to be seen, like plants hanging on the walls outside. We were seated out back, kind of behind the door. It was a little bit squished, especially since there was a big plant on the wall at our head height, so we kind of had to lean away from it. <br/><br/>We both ordered the Gardenerā€™s brunch. It was absolutely positively soo good! I loved the presentation of it, and how we got two little stacks of everything. The quinoa cakes on the bottom were delicious. It was almost like there was potato in it, because the crispy exterior reminded me of a hash brown cake. The two Portobello mushrooms were so big and juicy! And the two eggs were perfectly poached. The crispy shallots added some nice crunch, and the salsa verde was quite tangy, but it balanced out with the rest of the dish.<br/><br/>Overall the flavor combinations worked really well together. I loved the textures of everything and the portion size was perfect.<br/><br/>Overall I enjoyed my dining experience here. The service was good, the food was excellent, and I loved the environment of the whole place. I definitely recommend if youā€™re in Mount Eden.

Came here for a weekend brunch and we all enjoyed it - my Curious Chook and maple coffee were delicious. Wanted a small sweet bite after the meal but unfortunately they don't have any cabinet snacks/dessert, so we had to order dessert from the menu which is double the price than if you were to grab a little cake/tart from the cabinet.

Have been to this great addition to Mt Eden village on several occasions now and have never been disappointed.Ā  The food is excellent, maybe overall a bit pricey but you do get quality.Ā  Service is good, friendly and attentive.Ā  Our last dinner here was on a Wednesday evening and we hadn't booked, not realising just how popular it is.Ā  They were very busy and offered us a table outside but as soon as we sat down we decided we didn't want to be there as people on the next table were smoking, so we went inside and in a flash a new table was brought out and there we were right in the middle of things - couldn't have been more accommodating! It was actually an anniversary dinner for us and this made our evening.Ā  Kent and Tina are fantastic hosts and we highly recommend this place.

Was here for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. The service was quite good, had a very friendly waitress. The food was okay, nothing particularly spectacular about any of the dishes ordered (curious chook, burger, their version of a big breakfast, onion rings and empanadas) aside from the plating of the burger. The onions rings to me were actually quite delicious but the curious chook that I ordered was lacking in the actual "chook." With a name like Curious Chook I expected it to be a chicken based main but it had one thin piece of chicken breast and 3 - 4x the amount of bread. Despite the fact that it was raining the decor was still beautiful, more so in fact because of the rain. Wouldn't be back for a weekend lunch but the weekday lunch and dinner menu sounds promising.

Beautiful outdoor area with fireplace and blankets for warmth. Wonderful french waiters and the Maple Iced Coffee is one of the best Ive ever had.

We came here for a last minute dinner and they accommodated us with a nice little table out the back which is really lovely. Service was a tiny bit slow but the drinks and food were amazing. We ordered the spiced chicken for an entree and we had a surprising amount of appreciation for the dipping sauce in particular. We also had the burger and the coriander tortellini, would go back for that pasta any day, not too heavy a portion which is often the case with pasta and a great flavour; the burger I was told was good but didn't end up trying it myself. I remember the drink I ordered was amazing but I can't for the life of me remember what it was - great drinks though šŸ˜‰

After seeing this place reviewed as one of Auckland's most beautiful cafes, the aucklander in me couldn't pass up taking the chance to check it out. While it is beautiful, we are here to review the food afterall šŸ¤”ā˜•ļø. The service is fast and friendly. I would definitely recommend sitting in the courtyard out back for the full 'garden shed' experience that is so critically acclaimed šŸŒ»šŸƒ. As a sweet coffee lover I was very disappoints in the fact they have NO FLAVOURINGS (not a real word) for coffee... No caramel... No hazelnut šŸ˜Ŗ. Mocha was good though. The food was delicious and came relatively quickly, I definitely vouch for their bacon - quality, quantity and deliciousness šŸ˜. All in all, definitely a cafe to put on your radar

I've been here on every visit to NZ in past year. The staff are always friendly and helpful and the food outstanding. Almost enough to make me move home!

Id heard great things about The Garden Shed and I had about 40 minutes between appointments in Mt Eden so it was an easy choice. The menu had so many yummy options, I went with the curious chook, an open chicken and salad sandwich. Super fresh and generous serving, heaps of avocado which was a bonus. I would have liked by bread to be a bit more toasted but a minor issue. I also had a latte but it was a slightly burnt tasting. The best part about the Garden Shed was the service. I was greeted and seated straight away, and I told my waitress I didnt have much time and they made sure I had my food and coffee very quickly. Everyone was so friendly and nice. <br/>I also loved the decor, so cute and rustic. <br/>I will definitely be dining at the Garden Shed again šŸ˜Š

Loved the set up of the place and the garden theme. The staff was nice and friendly, gave good recommendations in ordering food and wine that complimented well. I ordered the sea food ravioli and my friend got a lovely salad. Both tasted nice. For dessert the panna cotta was ideal, the chocolate and caramel cake was too heavy.. Overall enjoyed the experience.

Had heard about The Garden Shed from a friend who had eaten there a few times - she mentioned that the burger was to die for & the salads were delicious, so when the opportunity arose, this was the logical choice for dinner one night.<br/>It's quite a surprising location - on busy Mt Eden Rd, but if you are out in the courtyard you are so tucked away! If you can get a seat this really is a great location - a lovely garden full of beautiful plants & ornaments plus a fab fountain. Really like you're in another world. The other areas of the restaurant are good to though.<br/>Service was really good - polite & friendly without being over the top. Good knowledge of the menu.<br/>Drinks wise - lots of great variety particularly when it comes to local brands. Awesome to see.<br/>Today we chose cocktails from their range - both well made & nicely presented.<br/>Menu wise again a good variety of entrees, mains & sides. Definitely has that 'garden' theme of fresh simple produce. Good to see.<br/>Tonight we chose the chicken breast which was flavoursome & tender. Delicious fresh seasonal Veges accompanied it. We also had the harpuka - again with garden Veges. The variety of carrots was particularly good to see as they have some great heritage options. Unfortunately the fish could have done with another minute or so as was not quite cooked enough at one end, but was otherwise fresh with a nice caramelisation.<br/>Desserts were next - chocolate & caramel molten pudding with berries. This was very nice although not the molten texture the name suggests. Would be great to see this served 'gooey'. We also ordered the fruit crumble which was nicely presented. The gelato was a little icy in chunks but very refreshing. The crumb was delicious - tasty nutty flavours.<br/>A great visit & can't wait to come back & try more of the menu. Again the courtyard is the place to be so it pays to get there early!

What a beautiful place. šŸ™‹šŸ»šŸ’žšŸŒø Especially the garden at the back! Came here for the afternoon tea, we all enjoyed it very much. Will try the lunch menu next time

Always a great spot for breakfast. The environment and decor is amazing. Exactly how you would expect dining in a garden shed would feel like. You seem to get some sort of calming effect by eating in a "garden" surrounded by plants, flowers, water features, etc. <br/>Food is always on point, range of beverage offerings is more than you could ever need, service is great and pricing isn't too bad either. Would definitely recommend if you were looking for something close by yet delicious. My go to cafe that never disappoints.
Bhavya
Love this place, mostly because of the super friendly service, and the ambiance. Food is average, but I'd recommend this place to anyone who wants to have a relaxing evening, with decent food and very good service. Try to get a table towards the back...the ambiance is even better
Michele
Have only ever have things from the sharing plates part of the menu, but come here for coffee a lot. I love that the flat whites are small & strong. Today we got the fried chicken, fries and the bread with whipped butter. The fried chicken was quite nice, but a little dry - the dipping sauces covered that up pretty well, though!
Maylene Gautusa
Great food and an excellent selection of healthy options. The staff were friendly and helpful and the outdoor garden adds to a relaxing ambience. Will definitely visit again :)

Went to the Garden Shed last night. We were a group of 8 in celebration for our Netball Team Win! We were seated out in the courtyard area which was a really nice look and feel. I got the beans to share and I got the Hapuka fish. It was really filling surprisingly for 3 Main ingredients but felt that it could have been portioned better, I was struggling towards the end. The boyfriend got the chicken breast which he enjoyed. Will definitely come again.

We had brunch today at the Garden shed, it was my first time and I think it has just become one of my favourite places. I was amazed by the interior, I did feel like I was sitting in the back of a garden. :) the food was delicious and staff are super friendly and kind. I will definitely return and will recommend this place to my friends.
Helena
A very beautiful restaurant. The whole interior is decorated to imitate a garden shed (hence the name). A bit disappointed that the plants hanging all around us were fake but hey, at least it looked real until the point when you touch it.<br/> There is a good selection of food, not a lot but just enough. Since I went with my cousin and sister, we ordered the steak, chicken breast and the risotto. It was all delicious but bit on the pricy side. However, the portions were more than enough. The staff were all friendly and the overall atmosphere was good.

One of favorite hang out place of late... With fam and folks...<br/><br/>Spot on customer service every time... Interactive and polite staff...<br/><br/>I find the food served very fresh, well presented and tastes immaculate...<br/><br/>A regular diner and absolutely recommended.

One place I keep going back to for dessert! A very relaxing and beautiful atmosphere provided by the garden and the friendly staff, ideal for a chill time with friends. Their dessert portions are quite variable, very difficult to finish a chocolate tart and fruit crumble but the penna cotta is quite small.
Thegreeats
This was one of the first cafes that me and my bf visited together and we loved it! From the cute garden decorations and outdoor seating area !<br/>Their goji tea was lovely but their burgers are a must !! Mine which resembled a BLT was quite average which you could find anywhere else but their burgers šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜<br/>A gem in mt eden !
Nidhi
We just had a few drinks and starters to which were good - taste wise. The price was a bit on a higher end for the quantity. However staff were all very friendly and its just a cute little place to relax with family and friends.
Tania Ostick
Delicious food! Excellent service! The farmers board was great lots of variety! Love that they have almond milk on the menu and even a paleo dessert option (wasn't as fluffy as I would have liked a little too much almond meal I suspect). Love the variety of craft beers!
Apple Pi
I ordered a flat white coffee and they gave me a coffee like a short black with a dash of milk, with so little foam that when away after 2 minutes or so. My curious chuckoo or whatever the chicken meal is called- is so dry, the chicken was so burnt that I had to drink water to swallow the chicken.. The service was really good though, the staffs were really friendly and offered to remake my coffee which turned out fine. Atmosphere and the decoration is really cosy and pleasant, but in saying that you really need to improve your coffee..
Veronica Turner
Went to this place for breakfast a few days ago. Was told I would be made eggs Benedict within 5 minutes - this was accurate but it was the smallest portion and worst tasting eggs Benedict I have ever tried in my life, it being a common breakfast choice in every cafe that I eat very often. The eggs Benedict were on two half burnt potato rostis, with a puny amount of spinach, two long pieces of salmon so salty that it seemed inedible for a human being, and two tiny eggs with a sauce that tasted like just butter- it wasn't hollandaise it was a rip off of that and this cost me 20 dollars. It was new years day and I didn't want to make a fuss plus was hungry so asked for some bread since the rostis were crap. Was given two pretty burnt toasts and told they were free of charge, as though it's not obvious that it's free since the food that I was served was a rushed stingy portion that tasted off. Seriously, maybe they bought the wrong fish that day but it was so salty it was insane. Will never go back again and will inform all my friends and colleagues of the horrible food. Although this could be a one off and cannot judge lunch menu etc, to me personally it says a lot that the chef does not put in an equal amount of effort and quality into each dish she makes (it was a lady with brown hair). Thanks for the waste of money

Bahasa: Pelayanannya bagus dan ramah sekali, suasanya nyaman juga. Tapi makanannya dikit porsinya, dan rasanya standar, apa saya salah pesen y :S<br/>English: Taste is so so and the portion is relatively small. The Service is excellent but fortunately Taste is everything for me.

Hello 2016! First review of the year! Went here on the 31st for some dinner before the big count down, I live down the road from this place and me and misses hadn't had a chance to check out the food; We were impressed. The service was great, genuine and efficient, both the staff members who served us (Spanish dude and a lovely lady) were awesome, it's nice when staff make you feel at home and guide you in making a good choice in regards to a menu that your not familia with. The food, well that was bloody fantastic. My steak was perfect, just thinking about it makes me hungry. It really was delicious. I whole heartedly encourage all of my 500+ followers to check this place out! Definitely try go out the back, it's got a sweet as rustic garden theme going on, very chilled and very cool. This could definitely become my local. A++

Presentation was great! The iced chocolate was fantastic! But the ricotta and coriander tortallini was dry and lacked seasoning. Would go back for the drinks but nothing fantastic vegetarian wise

This place has always caught my eye when driving through Mt Eden village, it's so pretty and floral and rustic and I finally tried it today. Flavours wise it's on point! My curious chook was delicious and I tried some of my friends tortellini and that was also very yummy :) I just feel like the portion sizes are a tad on the smaller size and the food is not exactly cheap. The service was super friendly but food came out slow. The decor is beautiful though :) overall I enjoyed my time here but I'm not sure if I would come again just because I feel like for the amount of food served at their prices is just not really worth it

Our family had dinner here once and the service was pretty good, the food was not so impressive. We ordered 3 appetizers the waitress recommended, and they turned out to be just mediocre. For mains we ordered two roasted lamb, 2 steak and 1 burger and 1 tortellini. The lamb was good, the burger was tasteless, and the 250g steak would have at least 40~50 grams of gristle. The food was not worth the price we paid for...

Came for brunch. Very busy cafe with excellent service. Food was quite tasty. Tried wantons for entree. Eggs bene and baked eggs for main. All pretty good but not that memorable. Main negative was coffee which was too strong and quite bitter. Outdoor terrace was very pleasant space. I would come back.

We came here for breakfast it was busy but the tables outside down the side are nice and quiet .... Nice service... But the food is mediocre ... Bacon under cooked no crispy parts what-so-ever....the shed board was much smaller than expected and no butter with the ciabatta... The fish cakes were ok... Came with one poached egg, abit of lettuce 1 slice tomato and 4 tiny bits of cucumber.... Very underwhelming really ...

Went here for family brunch. Excellent efficient service and very good coffee. White goji tea was bitter in flavour. Kids menu decent value for pancakes only - kids bacon and eggs was terrible value at $12.50 for one bacon rasher, one poached egg and one piece of sour dough bread. Adults pancakes average with insufficient maple syrup and fruit. Won't be back as wasn't overall good value for a family brunch at $84.

In short (full details of my experience below), I love the interior and the theme! It has a sunny courtyard so be sure to pop by on a sunny day to check it out. Service was really good and staff are well trained. Food and coffee though, is average but the ambience itself could be nice enough to come back. Also it can hold large crowds if you are looking for a venue. We had table of 12 seated comfortably.<br/><br/>I have been here twice.<br/>Once when it first opened and it was lovely because it was not too busy. Had a lovely smash avocado type salad but they changed the menu when I came by the second time. <br/><br/>Round 2, it was such a busy cafe which is really good for them! we made a booking for a large table but somehow it was missed. Luckily we got a table in the end. As they were busy staff seemed flustered but still manage to be under control. <br/>We all ordered but some orders were sold out (pancakes sold out at 11.30!). <br/><br/>The coffees came and it seemed like the coffees have been sitting somewhere waiting to be served as the milk has settled (below the rim of the cup) and started to bubble. Friends who drank the flatwhite said it was over extracted, bitter and really not very good at all. Luckily I changed my order last minute and had an iced maple coffee instead. Refreshing but couldn't really taste maple. <br/><br/>Food came relatively quick despite the large group. I ordered the baked eggs and it wasn't too bad! Best part was the bread that came with it (not sure if they bake it though) Yum! I can't remember as I don't have baked eggs too often but my eggs were solid where I ate them instead of slightly runny. Also the tomato and black beans sauce had quite a sour taste to it. Spicy sausage was added for $5.50 but totally needed it to give it a different flavour. I liked the sausage but friend would have preferred it to be a chorizo of sorts. <br/><br/>I heard the eggs benny with salmon was really salty due to the salmon. We told management and they seem to take it into consideration which is great! <br/><br/>We were always attended to and water was topped up regularly! <br/><br/>At the end when paying the bill, I wondered about the bill I paid as it seemed a little too high. So I checked and yes my eggs were overcharged by $1.40. I know it is a small amount but do make sure you check your bill as every cent counts! <br/><br/>Overall the ambience here is lovely! At the end you even get kale seeds which totally matches with the theme of the place! Great idea!

I have wanted to visit the Garden Shed ever since it opened but have never found the time until I went for brunch with a friend.<br/>We were warmly welcomed and seated quickly. The decor was amazing and so cozy. There was quite a long wait for our food but we were kept up to date by the staff about it's progress and the setting was so nice that it wasn't a problem at all!<br/>I ordered the maple iced coffee and man was it good! Just the right amount of sweetness and ice. It was definitely the best choice of drink. I followed it up with the Shed Burger.<br/>The burger came with onion rings and shoestring fries and aioli. Luckily there was an extra side plate for me to pop half my bun onto because the burger was huge. I took a long time to get through my meal but it was definitely worth it! Perhaps it was because of the wait etc but the patty could have been a little juicier. It was a bit dry and did fall apart slightly but I didn't have a problem with the taste at all.<br/><br/>We were not rushed. We sat for a long time enjoying our meal and the atmosphere and no one ever made us feel unwelcome. I love this about restaurants, especially as the price point is a little higher than others in the area. It was definitely worth the few pennies more and I will be coming back soon!

Really enjoyed the atmosphere and the layout of the place. Ordered the salmon Benedict and the eggs were cooked well! Great colour on the dish and was happy there was an option to switch the bread to hash.

A great little cafe with a warm feel to it, lots of plants scattered around the cafe that gives it very much a garden shed sort of feel. Ā The staff are warm and welcoming and presented very well, seems a very easy going yet professionally run little cafe. Ā We arrived with a table of 6, we were seen to almost immediately for drinks orders, soon after for food. Ā The food that was delivered looked very attractive, presented very well on the plates. Ā <br/><br/>I ordered the vegetarian breakfast (with bacon), this came with Quinoa fritters, roast portobello mushrooms with a smattering of micro herbs and salsa verde on the side. Ā The fritters were quite dry and a tad bland, the salsa verde helped to add a much needed zing to the dish, not enough of it was served to fully complement the dish unfortunately. Ā <br/><br/>We will be back to try more of the brunch menu as it is certainly one of the better cafes in the Mt. Eden area.

I saw their advertise on Facebook several times so I decided a few days ago to go for diner with my partner. I loved the decor at first sight, once you're inside you're not in the city anymore. We started with a plate of wontons : yum ! Then my partner chose the shed burger while I went for the lamb belly. The burger is huge and absolutely delicious, and so is the lamb belly. Perfectly seasoned and well presented. To finish I had the apple crumble which was really good. Great service, great food, will come back for sure !

The garden shed is a lovely place to have lunch. They have such a warm welcoming staff that greets with big smiles. The interior of The Garden Shed has a amazing feel to it, it really feels like you're in a fairy tale. I ordered the quinoa cakes with portobello and poached eggs . It was delicious but would liked a bit more of the herb sauce on the side as the taste was quite bland. My friend got the curious chook she said it was great and recommends it to many others. Would most likely see me again soon at this gorgeous place.

This cafe is full of yum healthy options. Everything was fresh and I did not feeel guilty eating anything from their menu. The waiters were really funny and nice. Food was fast and beautifully presented. I had the veg haloumi salad and tried some of the quinoa hash.
Irene
This place was beautiful as soon as you come in your greeted staff were great the food was so yummy couldn't even finish my food good pricing big portions on plate which was good first time there and you should try this place especially the style and setting of it yah boom

We came in here for a dinner pre drink. <br/><br/>The staff here were impeccable! (Quite an attractive bunch I might add). The guy at the bar ran through all the local tap beers and told us his suggestions. We got a drink and people watched. <br/><br/>A nice relaxed location with full sun. Outside tables and indoor. Old fashioned workhouse type decor. <br/><br/>I really loved it here. We didn't have any food but I'll be back to give their menu a go.
Flora
Fantastic experience to having lunch here. Located on such busy road, the garden shed surprises me by its secret garden at the back. You will be surrounded by plants, flowers on the table makes me feel summer is finally coming. <br/>For the main, I choose gardener's brunch and it tastes yummy., flat mushroom on the top is juicy and fresh. The base and pea shoots on the side tastes great as well. My friend's chicken bacon sandwich looks nice too. <br/>For dessert, we tried lemon panna cotta which is light with mango flavor. We prefer the hazelnut crumble which is new to us. This dish is served in a hot pot with a wooden board, the ice cream will be melting after you pour the milk on the crumble. Sweet, chewy and match each other so well.<br/><br/>They also give us the seed as gift which is eatable or you can just plant by your own.<br/>We will definitely come back here and next time we want to try other dessert and the "look nice" burger with chips.
Av
Great venue, location, staff and meals. I came here a week ago and was blown away by the high standard of the dishes and the layout of the cafe is beautiful! <br/><br/>The food and drinks both tasted really good and came out really quickly. The serving sizes were very generous and filled us up. We will be back :)

When searching for place to go in Mount Eden, The Garden Shed always pop up. So We went there for the first time, we sat out the back, really nice deco, friendly foreign accent waiter, and delicious meals. We had garlic prawn for entree, then She ordered beef shank and I had the rib eye, both came with quite large portions. With the meals and deco, well worth it!
Coco
I tried this place for the first time today and wow it put me in a super good mood. The atmosphere and decor is on point and just so pleasing to look at. I was tossing up between the prawn quinoa and the quinoa cakes/poached egg dish which I've forgotten the name of. I decided to go with the prawn quinoa after hours of deciding and I'm so so glad I did! I was in heaven and I couldn't fault anything except maybe it wasn't spicy at all despite 'chilli' being in the menu discription. I was hoping it had a bit more of a kick! <br/><br/>Service was okay, quick and attentive but could do with a bit more enthusiasm. Overall, I can't wait for the next time I come back to the garden shed and even though I would love to try other things on the menu, I would be happy to just order the prawn quinoa every time because it was just so delicious.

Been eying up their weekend brunch menu for a good while as everything sounds amazing. Decided upon the buckwheat pancakes and did not regret it, they were made perfectly and the winter fruits, maple butter and Canadian maple syrup which the lovely waiter suggested I get because it is "legitimate" all came together really well. Good service and good foodšŸ˜ŠšŸ‘šŸ¼

Beautiful atmosphere has been created at The Garden Shed, you really do feel as if you're in a green house/grotto, removed from everyday life to relax and unwind! <br/>On par is the service with very friendly, helpful and attentive staff, and the food is de-vine!!<br/>Definitely going back to try the dinner/desert menu! Love love love! The food is delicious and the service is fantastic. I have been here a few times now and it's still one of my favorites. #gidschallenge

Really good service and food. Quite busy on a Saturday morning, cute decorations and smells so fresh with all the plants. The coffee was abit small for the price and a tag too bitter. But the food was amazing. I had the gardeners brunch. Im already wanting it again! The burger looks massive on a chopping board. Has such a friendly and lovely vibe to this place
Deborah Ruth Thompson
This place is my sweet obsession - Buckwheat pancakes with Maple Syrup, ginger butter, and apple and kiwi fruit.<br/>When you have to go gluten free, it doesn't get much better than this.<br/>The coffee is excellent too, and the staff are friendly.

This place is a hidden gem! I really adore the feeling of this place - plants make everything so much happier! šŸƒšŸŒ¼šŸŒæšŸŒø the food was a good portion and had really good flavours. Loved the chicken at lunch and the detox smoothie was also really good. Coffee was also killer. New fav place for sure
Lisa
Really cool setting, we sat out the back, lots of room and warm enough with the heaters blasting.<br/>Food was a pretty good, but not amaze. We had the prawns and the fried chicken to share- prawns were lovely but fried chicken a bit average? Could have turned the spice up a bit.<br/>I had the fish cakes which were freaking delicious- capers and Parmesan yummm, but the poached egg on top was over done.<br/>The boyf had the burger which was enormous and v dramatic skewered with a steak knife. Tasty enough, but could have done with more cheese and better pickles.<br/>Service was lovely though and v friendly. Would return.

Came here for brunch on Sunday for Fathers Day. When we arrived it was a bit confusing whether we were to sit ourselves or not as the first thing you see is the bar with the rest of the dining area a bit separated by a wall.<br/>Staff were friendly, seating us, as well as offering us blankets to keep warm as we were seated outside.<br/><br/>We ordered the Shed Board, Eggs Benedict and the Veggie Patch. Food arrived promptly. Would have to say the Shed Board was the best value for money, only being a few dollars more than the other dishes. Eggs were cooked perfectly, with delicious bacon and sausages.<br/><br/>The eggs Benedict was okay. We ordered it with bacon on a potato rosti (option for bagel). Eggs were cooked perfectly, and the bacon being very nice. Kale was the star of the dish, being seasoned perfectly, making you want more. The potato rosti was disappointing. It was crisp on the outside but as soon as you left the edges, you couldn't taste any potato, and the whole thing became mush. Later discovered rice grains within it, possibly used as a filler and the cause of the softness, letting down the dish.<br/><br/>The Veggie patch came with halloumi which was lovely. The olives were very tasty, not salty at all. However, wished that the avocado was sliced rather than smashed, unless there was bread on the side as you could taste the avocado with the rest of the salad.<br/><br/>The Garden Shed is a nice local cafe. However, wouldn't really travel the distance again to eat here.

What a dreamy set up! The Garden Shed was truly a beautiful experience. I took my friend here on a Sunday morning/brunch hour for her birthday.<br/><br/>It was such a gorgeous setting - a lot of greenery and a secret garden/shed sort of vibe. I will definitely be back. It was so busy when I went, but service was still very good. Our order arrived in 15 minutes despite being a full house. <br/><br/>The halloumi was DELICIOUS! The beer-battered outside was so light and golden. Seriously, combined with the eggplant dip, the flavours just melted in your mouth. My breakfast was the grilled chicken. Simple and delicious. My friend ordered the fish cakes and absolutely loved her order.<br/><br/>This place is almost perfection, but just wish that the menu was more distinguished. It has the potential to be 5/5!

Amazing food and very great service! The decor of the cafe is beautiful! <br/><br/>Coffee and food came quickly and both tasted really good!<br/><br/>Serving sizes were very generous and a special mention for the buckwheat pancakes and its delicious glory. <br/><br/>Definitely a new favorite cafe! <br/><br/>
Irada Salam
Decor and ambiance was amazing. Had the best buckwheat pancakes there, which I find is very unique and smells so gooood. My friend had the Gardener's brunch and it tasted really good as well. Worth every cents.

My first time at Garden Shed, they say it all depends on the first impression. The food was delicious, staff was super-friendly, really, what more can a customer really ask for?? I even received Lettuce Seeds upon leaving the place! Great idea guys! Well done and keep it up!
Tony Kato
Been here twice and the first time I ordered the beef burger and it was actually pretty good. I like the shoestring fries they provide. The atmosphere is really like a garden. Good food

Lovely cafƩ and will happily return! Ordered the curious chook and the veggie patch. Was very satisfied with the portions and the taste!<br/>The staff were very attentive and even gave us lettuce seeds to plant at the end of our meal! Will order the burger next time as that looked impressive!!
Erika Tutiya
I had a terrible experience!!!!!!!!!!!! I ordered a burguer w/ fries and the whole dish was a contradiction. The fries were too salty and the burguer was bland!! I couldn't finish to eat them. The service was just ok, though they took some time to attend us. I will never ever put my feet on this place again!!!!!!
Vanessa
I came here for lunch with a few friends and we sat in the outdoor courtyard at the back of this cute cafe/restaurant.Ā The food was delicious, it was well priced and very filling (I had their 'Shed Burger' and the burger was very big.)Ā There wasn't a long waiting period for the food and the waiters here were so so nice and friendly.Ā <br/>I love how well the interior fits with their name! There was a lot of greenery with flowers and plants inside (it's like you're literally in a garden shed), even the restrooms were decorated nicely too :)
Helena Chen
I came here for dinner with a friend on a weekday, and sat outside in their courtyard area. I absolutely love this area; it's so fitting to their restaurant name/theme, with beautiful greenery everywhere and clever garden style decor. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. We ordered drinks first, and tried out the shed sodas at $6 a glass, which was quite reasonable. They were nicely presented, fresh and not overly sweet. For food, we both ordered the Shed burger, which ended up being a massive meal for two small girls, as they also came with a huge side of fries. The burger was great though, a classic beef style with all the trimmings, and the chips were nice and crispy as well. I've heard this place also does a killer weekend brunch, so will definitely be returning to try that soon!Ā <br/><br/>Sarah ReynoldsĀ #challenge

We came here today (Monday) for lunch around 12pm and were greeted as soon as we entered! The interior is quite cute, it literally looks like a garden shed! The cutlery comes in little plant pots and there are plants and flowers everywhere for decorations! Super cute. <br/><br/>Also right after we were directed to a table, the waitress immediately asked us if we needed any coffees! This was so considerate considering most people are caffeine deprived and are tired in the morning! Hahaha. I ordered the maple iced coffee and my friend ordered the large mocha. My maple coffee came out ombrĆ© which looked so pretty ā€” a lot like the Starbucks iced caramel macchiato! It was quite sweet and still had a strong coffee taste which was perfect for my coffee taste! <br/><br/>I ordered the buckwheat pancakes with caramelized winter fruit and maple butter. My friend got the curious chook which was essentially chicken, bacon and greens on a bun! An open chicken sandwich or burger. The customer service here was so good! The waiters and waitresses were so nice and occasionally came over to see how we were doing and if we needed anything else. They also made the occasional jokes and were quite nice to talk to!<br/><br/>My pancakes were fluffy and tasted pretty good! Though without any kind of syrup I felt like it was quite dry. Next time I'll opt for the Canadian maple syrup option :) <br/><br/>My friend said his meal was really good! I tried a piece of chicken and it really was good. Not dry at all! <br/><br/>I am so impressed with the service here! We were also given lettuce seeds after our experience here, which was such a cute gesture! I will be coming back for sure :)<br/>

Was having a late lunch with my sister and we stumbled upon The Garden Shed on Mt Eden Road. I was amazed by the decor inside and out. Very natural and funky! Ā <br/><br/>Service was great, waiters were friendly and attentive. And the food came out very quickly. I had the Gardener's Brunch which had quinoa cakes, topped with portobello mushrooms, poached eggs and fried shallots. It would have been really amazing but unfortunately my poached eggs were overcooked.Ā <br/><br/>My sister had Grandma's Granola served with sliced fruit, yoghurt and milk. She said it was nice but muesli can be a bit of a chore to eat. Prepare your jaw for a workout!<br/><br/>We ordered mochas which were also really nice. I would definitely come back to try their other dishes and drinks :)

The Garden Shed lives up to it's name with the decor and a beautiful back garden area. I came for lunch on a rainy day so it was a pity that I had to sit inside instead. Even so the whole place still has a nice and refreshing charm to it.<br/><br/>We started with the Garden Board to share, I highly recommend getting one if you come in with a group. It was beautifully put together, my favorite things were the confit duck rillette with beetroot jelly (I almost asked for more) and the terracotta bread which was hot and steamy as we grabbed it from the clay pot. However with everything on the board I felt like there should be a little more bread; or maybe that's just me craving some extra carbs that day. <br/><br/>The "shed burger" was delightful. Our gnocchi had a beautiful texture to it however we found it to be a bit bland. I craved a little more flavor, especially with the broccoli being there (I didn't feel like it adds anything else to the dish flavor-wise).<br/><br/>Will definitely return to see what they have to offer for dinner.

Perfect place to spend a wet winters morning. Decor on point. Service fantastic. Food, fresh and marvelous. Coffees on a different level ā˜ Really charming place to eat. <br/>Update: fantastic service this morning. Equally fantastic coffee and the buckwheat pancakes are still to die for. That maple butter though...nom nom nom<br/>Thanks guys for a great start to our weekend!

Amazing (gf) "Best Ugly Benny" rostis replaced the bagel . Also fresh "Detox" smoothie was yummy! My friend's breakfast burger looked delish, served in a nice brioche bun. Nice and attentive staff, and some free seeds (score, not that kind of seed...) to polish it off!
Sarah
This place is really charming. I loved the decor and how the food reflected the 'garden shed' theme. The prawn entree was delicious. I wasn't a big fan of the hard thin bread served with the goat cheese pate. The pate itself was great. The chicken shnitty main was huge. I loved the fresh veges and mash it came with. I had the cacao smoothie which was quite bitter as expected. It was also very refreshing. It was really busy the night we went but the service was great. The acoustics of the place, as no music plays, can make you feel like your'e in a hen house when people next to you get loud and chatty. Overall was a yummy meal and a fun night. We look forward to going back and sitting in the garden courtyard next time.

I barely give fives but this was hands down one of the best restaurants I've ever been to! First of all, I know many have commented on the dƩcor but it is seriously so brilliantly thought out! Everything fitted the Garden theme and I just loved it all, I even wanted to photo the toilet, this dining experience was one to remember, The Garden Shed staff greeted us politely when we entered and this kind of lovely service carried on throughout the night, we were then escorted to our seats under the heater. It was such a pleasant surprise to see that they provided blankets for their customers!! At this point I already felt like I had been won over. And this was all before we even got to the food! <br/><br/>For entree we had the Maple Pork Belly Bites, OH MY MY! They were little morsels of heaven! Amazing delicate flavor, both my friend and I agreed that we could just fill up on them really! <br/>For the main I had the Beef Shank with Ginger Lemon Kiss tea whereas my friend had the Chicken Shnitty paired with the chocolate fix. My meal no longer felt like food, it was an indulgence! The aroma of the spices captured my senses then I tasted the beef. The meat was falling off the bone and oh so tender, I lick my lips thinking about it now! Went wonderfully with the fresh ginger and lemon tea. It really did feel like my lips were being kissed at every sip. Beautiful beautiful meal! <br/><br/>My friend enjoyed her Chicken Shnitty but personally I found it a little too pizza like, slightly dry and there was an excess of butter in the mash. The chocolate fix really wasn't what we were expecting, my friend described it as 'too healthy to be chocolate' and didn't finish it. But that wasn't enough to affect my night at all! It goes without a doubt that I'll be returning soon to try their dessert menu, excited already! Definitely recommend!

This is another very popular place on Mount Eden. It's located almost in front of Circus Circus. We ordered some maple pork belly bytes, the mushroom and red wine risotto and chicken schnitty. This place has a very nice atmosphere, the food was good but the services lack of some quality, specially regarding the waiting time. Even to have the dessert menu it took a considerable amount of time. Aside from that it seems a great place to have a dinner with friends and family.

Attention to all Nike-clad health food addicts and/or lovers of cute cafes, here is some good news and #fitspo for you. Perfect for Junk Free June, I went to The Garden Shed on Mt Eden Road to see whatā€™s the dealio with the new cafĆ© block. Mind you, Iā€™m too weak for Junk Free June but I do my best to ingest goodness into my body most times.<br/><br/>There I was in my Adidas gear and we went on a fine day where the outdoor area really had a chance to shine. So shiny that I felt like a bit of a pom sitting in an outdoor/indoor area with my sunnies on but girl, there are just days when the flu makes me feel like my contact lenses had been soaked in onion solution. It felt a bit like I had gatecrashed into someoneā€™s garden party with a waterfall trickling in one corner and beautiful plants overhanging. The attention to detail was amazing ā€“ from the waiting area which had a sign saying ā€œPlease wait to be plottedā€ to the garden spades with tap beer names, The Garden Shed truly lives up to its name without being too tacky.<br/><br/>There were so many things I wanted to order from the ā€œShare with Friendsā€ menu like the Spiced Chicken and Goats Cheese Pate but strictly there for brunch, I could not muster the energy to convince everyone else to share. The Weekend Brunch menu was enticing itself with lots of healthy options like Buckwheat Pancakes and Grandmaā€™s Granola. I opted for the Garden Breakfast with quinoa cakes, portobello mushrooms, poached eggs and salsa verde. I recently had a round of obsession with quinoa, because itā€™s so fast to cook and makes my salads more filling so I was keen to see this quinoa cake goodness.<br/><br/>When it came, alas, the poached eggs were overdone! I could literally bounce it on my plate and I actually pushed my knife on top to squeeze the egg yolk out. You can probably tell I like my poached egg yolks runny like that waterfall next to me, but the nice girl in me said ā€œitā€™s ok, itā€™s just an eggā€.<br/><br/>The boys at the table ordered the Shed Burger which came like a drama queen with a knife stabbed in the middle of the burger. Filled with giant onion rings and a big patty, it looked like quite the deal. Bonus, it even came with chips.<br/><br/>My friend ordered the Maple Pork Belly Bites and I have to say, the small size does not make it ideal for sharing! There were probably six pieces in total, and while they looked scrumptious it was a bit pricy for $15.90.<br/><br/>The staff were gracious and friendly, apologising several times for moving our group to a smaller table which was totally ok ā€“ we were hogging a bigger table for some of our friends who didnā€™t end up making it.<br/><br/>The last cute gesture was the sachet of seeds of a mystery plant which came with the bill (which I have still yet to plant). I appreciated the small gestures which elevated the experience and made you feel that bit more special than in an average cafĆ©.<br/><br/>I want to go back for dinner ā€“ I had spotted Salted Caramel Chocolate Pot on the dessert menu. Going there with the flu wasnā€™t ideal, I felt like I had the top layer of my tongue stripped because I was adding an unnecessary amount of salt and pepper to my food when I knew it was my senses being muted. Which makes it another excuse to go back and try their food. If youā€™ve been to The Garden Shed, let me know what to order next, and tell me if their food is naturally low in salt or if my senses were really off that day!

Went to the Garden Shed, Mt Eden's new kid on the block for brunch with two friends on a Sunday. They also do shared platters/dishes after 11am.<br/><br/>Verdict: great ambience, decent food, mid-range priced brunch<br/><br/>The price range is around $20 for breakfast and we wanted to try their version of the kiwi classic big breakfast - the Shed Block. The portion was generous and tasty.<br/><br/>The one thing that was a bit hard to deal with was with so much on the plate there wasn't much room to cut up the food to eat.<br/><br/>I was quite impressed with the latte art on my mocha. My friend thought her chai latte was too spicy and the staff were more than happy to swap it for another drink for no additional charge.<br/><br/>The wait staff were friendly and attentive with a relaxed vibe that suits a cafe environment.<br/><br/>The decor had a country living vibe with plenty of greenery, living up to its name. They even gave you a pack of lettuce seeds to bring home and start your own veggie patch!

Okay. This place. Food was good but a little overpriced. The amount you pay, you will get disappointed but the food was good. Service was alright, the lady that serve me and my mate didnt seem too happy. She came and asked if we were ready to order and i told her to please give us two more minutes as we were looking through the menu. She just walked away without saying anything. This place is beautiful but it can get quite messy if its a windy day because the pollen and leaves does fly into your food.

This is a nice spot for a catch up drinks and grab a bite. There is ample seating both in and outdoors. We went for the Farmers Platter and a few drinks which total to around 66$. DecĆ³r and staff was pleasant.

After visiting The Garden Shed for lunch previously, I really wanted to go back with my partner and try their dinner menu. The restaurant was quiet when we arrived, meaning we were able to get a quiet table, but it filled up quickly. The decor was appropriately garden themed and I really appreciated all the little details that carried through the style of the restaurant. The staff were friendly and attentive, the wait for the food wasn't too long but I did find the restaurant quite cold. In order to try as many things as possible (which had to be done because everything on the menu sounded so good), we shared dishes, starting off with the beer battered haloumi with roasted red pepper and aubergine dip and the maple pork belly bites. Both dishes were delicious, but we declared the maple pork belly bites the winner (and in fact the stand out dish of the meal). The mains were quite large (perfect if you're super hungry), my partner had the Shed Burger and Fries and said it was delicious (albeit enormous) and I had the 250g Rib Eye Steak which came with winter vegetables and a baked potato that was filled with bacon and mushroom sauce, topped with aged cheddar. Holy mother of all things delicious, while everything was tasty those potatoes were something else. I would go back for those alone! Dessert was probably not needed but ordered nonetheless - an apple pie with gingernut icecream that my partner declared to be okay but not amazing, and a lemon panna cotta with mango coulis and ginger crisps that I thought was the perfect end to the meal. The panna cotta was just the right amount of tart and the mango coulis tasted fresh and delicious. In terms of drinks we tried a couple of the Shed Sodas, with the blueberry and fennel being my favourite because the flavour was fresh and not too sweet. <br/><br/>My partner and I were hosted by The Garden Shed, but all views are my own.

I tried the garden shed with three colleagues for lunch earlier today. We all went for the three course set lunch ( 3 x garlic and herb baked bread, 3x Parmesan fish cakes with poached egg, desert - 1 x lemon panna cotta and 2 x Grandmas pie with Kapati ginger ice cream) washed down with house wine and coffee for $40.<br/><br/>The food, coffee and service for the price was fantastic but the wine was awful. They would have got 5 but for the wine............but to be fair it was only $40 per head excluding the coffee. <br/><br/>Give it a go.

Came here for my first time with my partner, she has been before and brought me here for a surprise. All I can say is WOW! fantastic meal and a good price, the tap beer is totally delish. Great set up of the restaurant and the staff are very friendly, I highly recommended this restaurant to anyone looking for a great feed.

Well, it's so unfortunate that I had to write my first ever one star review.<br/><br/>You see, it was my birthday a while ago during exams and my friends threw this great surprise birthday for me now that exams are over. The six of us went down to the Garden Shed and the environment was great! I highly suggest checking out its little courtyard in the back, summer or winter, since they made it amazing and you could tell from every little detail that they put their hearts into it. Keep reading.<br/><br/>My friends ordered some food to share and two of us decided to order mains. I ordered the Rib Eye Steak, (btw it costs 35 bucks or something), since it's my birthday. We got good service and everything's going perfect.<br/><br/>The food came and my friends enjoyed their shared food while as I took my first bite of my medium rare steak (cooked to the right point), I was shocked. It was so salty my tongue was tingling. I thought it must've been me so I tried a few more bites and the vegges were salty too but tolerable. Baked potato was awesome. But after a few bites my tongue began to hurt. Yes, you read that right, it was so salty my tongue started to hurt. I passed my steak to my friends to see if it was just me and they all agreed it was salty beyond belief. We told the waiter and he kindly took it back, said the kitchen would cook a new one for me. They made sure I wanted medium rare. So far, not bad. (Although I must say, my friend took it back for me, because she's a super hero, and you can hear it through the doors that the chef was very upset)<br/><br/>Another waiter (darker haired) returned not long after explained to me that they won't be serving me new vegges alongside my steak but simply reheat the bits I left behind. He didn't look like he was happy to explain all this but oh well, I was disappointed but agreed as to not affect the mood of the group. <br/><br/>A while later they brought back a piece of unsalted steak and my (now over cooked) half a portion of vegges, my lovely baked potato was gone. I tried cutting into the piece and it was well done. I wanted to make sure so I cut through the middle and it was barely medium well. <br/><br/>That's it.<br/><br/>There went my appetite. <br/><br/>On the other hand, my friend that also ordered a main had a few pieces of shockingly salty vegges in her plate too.<br/><br/>It's not like they were busy, we were the ONLY table there tonight. So they honestly don't have an excuse for how poorly the whole thing went. I'd assume cooking steak is on the 101s of being a chef.<br/><br/>We decided to go, and brought my plate of steak back to the front. We explained what happened and we can hear the chef/kitchen staff in the kitchen, through the door, having a go at the whole situation. He sounded and seemed very upset and pissed off, also pretended to shoot us with automatic rifles. (There's a huge delivery window, we can see you for gods sake)<br/><br/>Now most people of our group had worked or currently works part time in hospitality. We know what the poor waiters must feel like so tried not to make a fuss about it. But please know that the kitchen staff was beyond imaginable and so incredibly unprofessional.<br/><br/>I don't know if I'll ever go there again. And sure as hell I will not recommend it to anyone I know ever.

Tasty and fresh food with some good vegetarian options. Coffee delicious. Beautiful interior. The staff are very friendly and patient! Love coming here on a lazy Sunday morning.

Firstly, the interior of this cafe is absolutely stunning! The garden layout is absolutely gorgeous and its just a cute spot for a cafe on Mt Eden road.Ā <br/><br/>My friend ordered the 'Shed jams and spreads' which came with the popular Best Ugly bagels, and I ordered the Breakfast Burger which came with side of onion rings.Ā <br/>The Shed jams and spreads was a decent dish.<br/>My Breakfast burger was yummy. The downfall of the dish were the onion rings. They were a bit too bland for my liking, and could have been better.Ā <br/><br/>Overall, it was a a decent meal.

Great place. Awesome variety of beer. Friendly helpful staff. A place worth going to more than once.

Beautiful interior brilliant staff gin and tonics to die for been many times for breakfast dinner once have never been disappointed great job guys!<br/>Could do with some sweet treats to go with coffee or after breakfast though on counter maybe? But I'm a real sweet tooth and simply have to finish every meal with cake hehe! High 5 kids! X

Let me start saying the decor of this place is fantastic and the staff are great. But the whole idea of a cafe that is known for brunch is to get the basics of brunch right. I ordered the shed board and the mocha. I asked for no mushrooms and to take the onion ragout off. The mocha came to the table quite quick however it wasn't hot it was lukewarm. Breakfast arrived next. Now poached eggs the egg yolk should be runny and the white should be solidified but not dry. Both eggs the outside was dried out and the inside wasn't runny. The sourdough bread wasn't toasted. And the biggest sacrilege the bacon wasn't crispy. Though the pork sausage was fantastic and so was the potato Rosti. The potato Rosti was perfectly crispy on the outside. The ragout made an appearance on the board however I didn't taste it but the others on my table did and weren't too impressed. The coffee and the shed board came up to $27. Unsure if the chef was just having an off day but the breakfast was unimpressive I might try something else next time as I'm not ready to write this place off just yet however with places like Olaf's just around the corner this place definitely needs to up their game.

Been here twice. First time trying the ugly eggs benny with ham on a potato rosti. Love the option of a potato rosti. Delicious hollandaise. Kale is a nice change from spinach. <br/><br/>Second time tried the maple pork belly bites, from the share with friends menu but shared with myself. Such a nice flavour to accompany the pork belly but definitely would've liked to have it as a meal!

Love the environment here and the green juice is really good. Food wasn't good and not bad but anyway this is really cafe to hang out and catch up with your family and friends !

Such a beautifully decorated place! Absolutely love the whole garden theme going on, it's seriously super cute. I spent a good 10 minutes staring at everything around me before I even took a look at the menu haha!<br/><br/>We both got soy lattes, the shed burger, prawn quinoa and skinny fries to share.<br/><br/>Pros: the service was great! Our waiter was friendly and attention. Subtle banter! Twas awesome. Coffees were perfect as were the fries. They're super generous in terms of both portion size and quality ingredients. My burger was huuuuuuuge.<br/><br/>Cons: my pattie was super dry, to the point where I had to chase it down with my coffee. $22? I kinda expected a decent burger. The prawn quinoa had a significant amount of oil at the bottom. At least half was left uneaten as it was just drenched in<br/><br/>Revisited November 2019<br/>- service not accommodating<br/>- not really good value for money, overpriced<br/>- underwhelming taste wise.

I came here for a late brunch on the weekend and the place was quite full. It's very pet friendly and for someone who does not have a pet, this still makes me happy haha. <br/><br/>The food tasted really fresh and light. I got a salad and it came with both cos lettuce and mixed salad leaves. The range of garden veggies were really nice. They had regular red cherry tomatoes as well as sweet yellow cherry tomatoes. <br/><br/>The coffee shakes were really nice but a little too foamy.

Great atmosphere, awesome service and brilliant food.Ā  Thanks guys A Great Mother's was made all the better for being at your establishment.Ā  We will be back again very soon.
Zoe Yzendoorn
This definitely won hands down best cafe! The service was absolutely amazing! The staff were quick to our needs and made sure we were satisfied with everything! The atmosphere and lay out of the store is really nicely done. The skinny fries and the shed soda were super good! Definitely recommend!

A really nice and tranquil place to eat. Sat out in courtyard. Plants and gardening tools and the like everywhere. Whomever designed this place deserves a big thumbs up. Nice friendly staff and very neat and tidy.

This place is pretty awesome especially for a good dinner catch up with a friend. They were not at all shy with the quantity of foodand the flavor was great! I've read a lot of reviews about this place and it definitely lived up to the hype! My friend and i ordered a bucket of vodka and apple/lime/cucumber/mint punch and although you couldn't taste much vodka, the overall drink was amazing and not too heavy on alc! And we both got 4 glasses out of it each!! So defs go for the bucket option cuz its tastier and cheaper! I ordered the quinoa risotto which was flavorful! The staff were super friendly as well. Overall, a really great experience :)

One of our locals this place is cute ! Only ever been for brunch but the portions are very generous. I always overeat. Go hungry not so so. They give you a pack of lucky dip seeds too when you pay !
Chloe-Mae
Yummy what a cool little spot, such a cute concept, great choice on menu- only advice in the salad maybe slow down on the oil it doesn't need to be so oily (other wise it would have got a 4.5) other the. That no other faults will be back soon :-)

POOR STAFF ATTITUDE.<br/><br/>"Save yourself the possible wrath from Miss 'sour pants' and leave the Garden Shed for the tools"<br/><br/>Sad to say it but a certain staff member tarnished our visit. Now our waitress was that of the impatient, mildly passive aggressive kind. We were pleasantly admiring and discussing the decor as we took our seats so hadn't looked at the menu. Miss mildly passive aggressive maintains professionalism when taking our drinks order like shes trying not to lose her calm. Great start.<br/><br/>She gets my friends sparkling rose wrong (brings out sparkling white) but she's not one to make a fuss so drinks it anyway. We've just had a few sips. And impatient is back. Woah lady cant we just sit n chat? Shes obviously forgotten there were supposed to be three and continues with her fake smile.<br/><br/>Our late comer arrives and orders a Pinot Gris. A red comes out. Wha? That's two errors now... (This error was rectified) I've read in a previous review, that the order has gone awry at this place before. We ordered a few snacks to share but left to continue our evening elsewhere.<br/><br/>Despite the PMS-y attitude of the waitress. I will focus on what was good about our visit. *Gasp* Did she really just write PMS-y!?!?!<br/><br/>The Garden Shed is a beautifully decorated place. The Greenery out the back would be a cute spot for a date! There's an interesting beer selection on offer so if you're looking for something a little different to wet your whistle, try the seaweed beer. Yes SEAWEED beer! If you're not afraid of a little salt, this Gose has a wonderful twist. (See photo for flavour description) This beer prevented them from getting a score of less than 2.<br/><br/>If you're curious about the Karengose, check out: http://kererubrewing.co.nz/where-to-buy.php

I was really impressed with The Garden Shed when we came here for lunch one weekday during the school holidays. It was pretty busy and their ample seating was running out, we managed to grab a table out the back outside.<br/><br/>The menu is full of lots of delicious things, we decided to grab a bunch to share. <br/>Fries, onion rings, the pate and the bruschetta.<br/>By far our favourite was the bruschetta, it was divine, so much flavour and I've been thinking about it ever since. The onion rings were really juicy and crunchy, the fries were nice and the pate was really delicious and different!<br/><br/>The decor is amazing and everything is really well themed and creates a cute and romantic atmosphere. I'm looking forward to going back and getting some more of that Bruschetta

<br/>Came here on a weekend for a brunch with friends and unfortunately due to its high demand, we weren't lucky enough to get a table out in their garden.<br/><br/>The way their interior is decorated is amazing with the obvious garden theme as we can all tell from the name of the restaurant.<br/><br/>We ordered two Shed Boards ($20.9 ea), Deep Fried Sandwich ($12.9) and Quinoa Risotto ($18.9). Although the waiting staff were friendly and nice, I felt that it took far too long for our dishes to arrive on our table.<br/><br/>There wasn't any wow factor in the Shed Board but friends said it was nice. The Fried Sandwich I was told was moist and not too greasy considering it's fried. The Quinoa Risotto was pretty flavourful and I enjoyed every spoonful of it.<br/><br/>I'd like to visit again for a tea and it would be nice to be able to get a table in their garden next time around.<br/>

Strolling down the street of Mt Eden, hungry and looking for a good place to eat, my friends and I stumble upon the Garden Shed. We were attracted by its green and wooden themed boutique resto that conspicuously stands out from the rest of the restos down the street. We were even more enticed to come in and stay for dinner after looking at their menu. Their food entrees were unique and described wonderfully that it made our mouths water while browsing at it. Inside the resto was like going to an indoor garden, complete with vines hanging on the ceiling and garden tools on the walls. The ambience made us feel calm and relaxed after a long day. The staff were all so nice, accommodating, and always smiling. We decided to order the quinoa risotto and the rib eye steak. I've never had something so healthy and delicious for dinner! It taste even better than we expected it to be. We were all full and happy with our experience in the Garden Shed. Definitely a must-try resto.

We came here to catch up with a friend who was visiting Auckland for the week. Ā As most of the other reviews mention, the decor is lovely and on a nice day, the courtyard out the back is really pleasant, filled with plants and a nice water feature. Ā The little ones definitely had lots to look at and explore.<br/><br/>The service was efficient and friendly and I enjoyed my meal, which was the quinoa risotto. Ā It was generous with the prawns and the chorizo and it was also a large serving. Ā I also ordered a tea which came out in a lovely cast iron pot on a wooden board.<br/><br/>Hubby had the big breakfast (shed board) and enjoyed it. Ā We both liked our meals but it would have been good if there had been a kids menu or something for the little ones to enjoy - especially as you couldn't order any of the small sharing plates before 12. Ā There aren't a lot of options for very young children here. Ā (Edit: apparently they do have a kids' menu, but for some reason we weren't offered it!)<br/><br/>The others on the table also liked their meals, although one person found her hash brown to be really salty and couldn't finish it. Ā Another ordered a breakfast meal with some sides, but the sides were not very big and so I suspect he was still a bit hungry at the end (he does have a big appetite though!).<br/><br/>Overall, a pleasant meal in a lovely setting. Ā We will probably be back.

Great service, excellent coffee. Amazing venue, back garden and ambience. <br/><br/>Was disappointed by the food options. <br/>Fish n chips, and beef burger etc didn't really align with the look and feel of the venue and name 'garden shed'... Felt I could have gone anywhere for the burger or fish n chips served - nothing to write home about. <br/><br/>Will try a different meal option next time to see if it was simply that I chose the wrong menu option for me. <br/><br/>Room for menu improvement.

This cafe is nestled in the Mt. Eden shops and when you enter it's like walking into a plant barn or something similar. It really is very cute and has a great feel to it.<br/><br/>I was mildly hungover when I entered this place for brunch and I was so glad to see such an extensive menu. I ordered the burger and everyone else ordered items from the brunch menu. Our server seemed to forget what my friend ordered and it always makes me nervous when they don't write it down and just memorise it. We had to repeat ourselves twice and when the dishes came out he still got it wrong. We had already been waiting ages for our food so she really was hoping that it would not be too long for him to rectify it. <br/><br/>I really enjoyed my burger. It totally hit the spot and I was thankful for it. The bread was still soft and meat was well seasoned so it was great to see I wasn't going to leave disappointed. <br/><br/>It's real busy here on the weekends so go early if you plan on getting a seat!

Really enjoyed being here - they looked after us from get go. And were careful to take orders from all of us, and gave their full attention, even on a public holiday, when it was bustling!Ā <br/>The coffees were very good, and the food was tasty!<br/>Definitely going back here!

"Can I help you. Can I help!" I'd spotted the rest of my group but first I had to pass the bartender's challenge. I'd come straight from work and in a collared shirt I wasn't hipster enough to look like I belonged here. After my reason checked out I was allowed to my table.<br/><br/>For what is essentially a classy pub, aimed at artists and other unemployed, the wine list was surprisingly good. If in doubt always get a south Australian Shiraz. Even the bad ones are OK.<br/><br/>"That's unheard of!" It was seven o'clock and they'd run out of steak. One of my guests was not taking the news well. At least the burgers looked good. In fact presentation really is their strongest suit. <br/><br/>It's great that you eat with your eyes first, because when I tried to eat with my hands the grease residue turned the napkin transparent. But I choose onion rings so I blame only myself.<br/><br/>But I appreciate the garden decor and at least unlike the bar back my waitress's last job wasn't a border guard, so credit where it's due.<br/><br/>Rationaut rating: 3.5 annoyingly placed hanging flower pots out of 5. Worth a visit, unless you have more than 12 piercings in which case you are probably already a regular.<br/><br/>

Nice courtyard at the back. Even though it was raining with thunder it was fairly sheltered. It was a rather calming feeling eating outside with the rain surrounding you. We ordered the burger and hot dog. The sausage nfor the hot dog was good, lots of herbs and spices gave it really nice depth and flavour. The bread however wasn't ideal, it fell apart and you couldn't eat it together with the sausage. The onion rings it came with were perfect. The beef patty for the burger was a bit dry, could do with some eggs or onions minced in. Also ordered an ice mocha, slightly heavy on the coffee side, not balanced well enough.<br/>Iced mocha rating : 4/5<br/>Would come back tho.

Loved this place!! The staff were friendly, the exterior and interior were adorable, the food was amazing and had generous portions! Planning to take my other girls there. :)

Great food, above average service and cool decor (quirky but different to the cliche mismatched hipster places that are trending right now).

Read the reviews so thought we'd give it s go - very busy (not unexpected). Got a table straight away with lovely wait person. Water and drinks very prompt. And then we waited, and waited and then waited a bit more. Finally asked lovely waitperson who checked and said " just coming now". 10 mins later it was still just coming!! Meals did arrive - 6 prawns for $15, vege patch - advertised as smashed avo, halloumi, roasted tomatoes, olives, parsley vinaigrette and salad greens - what arrived was a plate of old cos leaves, less than a quarter of avo and a slice and a half of halloumi no vinaigrette and 3 olives. We also ordered a chicken dish which was very average. I suspect our order got lost hence the further 10 minute delay when we enquires as to where our meal was. Upon paying I made comment and they did deduct $15 off the bill and were most apologetic. Sorry guys but we won't be rushing back. 1 out of 5.

Came here last weekend with a small group of friends for a catch up over brunch. Upon entering, they have this plant with a sign saying "please wait to be planted", which I thought was super cute.<br/><br/>The Garden Shed has quite a few indoor tables, as well as a lovely courtyard area at the back. I found the small vases of flowers around to be a nice touch to the overall place as well.<br/><br/>From the weekend brunch menu, our table ordered the Parmesan & Caper Fish Cakes, Free Range Eggs on a toasted wholemeal, the Best Ugly Benny and the super yum Quinoa Risotto! I really loved the quinoa risotto but regretfully could not clear my entire plate :( <br/><br/>For drinks, we got a hot chocolate, The Essential and a raw apple juice. Very good!<br/><br/>Our meals came out quickly and was presented really well. Sadly, my camera could not capture it as perfectly due to my poor photography skills.... <br/><br/>Service was excellent and the waiters offered just the right amount of attentiveness and were not afraid to embrace a little bit of humour. One waiter even offered to take a group photo for us! Sometimes its the little acts that counts.

Beautiful - love the theme it's a lil escape from the busy main road of Mt Eden. The decorations of both in & outdoor areas kept my eyes really busy but very relaxing!<br/><br/>Delicious - there's heart in their food & beverages. Seasoning and presentation weave in with their theme really well.<br/><br/>Welcoming - the staff are friendly, quirky and very down to earth. <br/><br/>Highly recommended and definitely adding this to my favorites!<br/><br/><br/><br/><br/>

Mt Eden village is my local and so am always keen to try any new offerings there. When I saw The Garden Shed had opened I knew it would be top of my list the next time I needed a brunch venue.<br/>So on Waitangi Day I was heading out for brunch with my cousin and we went to The Garden Shed.<br/>I was pleasantly surprised by the outdoor area as I didn't realise there was one. The atmosphere was lovely with lots of greenery, indoor and out and plenty of garden decorative items. <br/>The place was busy but they seated us straight away and although warning us food would be 30 mins it was much faster.<br/>I had the chicken dish and it was delish and my cousin had the garden breakfast which also went down a treat.<br/>I will definitely be visiting again!

I wen there for Auckland Anniversary day and the experience was lovely. A beautiful day to be out and about and a great meal to kick start the day with. The Garden Shed's ambience is very warm and charming. It has both outdoor and indoor seating areas. It wasn't at all hard to find, being bang on Mt Eden road. The food was delicious and fresh. The staff were so friendly and constantly checking up on us. The food was served quickly and hot. The shed's burger with onion rings, was a delight! Highly recommend it!

Ordered coffee and bagel there. Bagels came with jam, butter and lemon curd. Coffee was great. Awesome and efficient service. We sat outside and it was really nice with flowers and waterfall. At the counter they've got tap drink and to go with the theme, they've used spades to label names. Really cool idea.

Firstly whoever did the interior design here should be commended. Gorgeous. <br/><br/>Service was great.. We arrived at 1.45 today and the place was packed, however table found and our waitress advised that it would be a 35 minute wait from the kitchen. Understandable given how busy they were, but we appreciated being told straight away. <br/><br/>The wait was shorter and the food was delicious. I had the chicken open sandwich but Bryce (husband) had the seafood quinoa...that was outstanding. I would come back for that. An excellent experience, we are returning for sure, next time for dinner.

Having completed the Oakley Creek walk (highly recommended) to work up an appetite, we headed to Mt Eden village for lunch. Ā We were attracted by the menu at the Garden Shed, and it turned out to be an inspired choice. Ā We were seated in the courtyard garden, surrounded by luxuriant plants Ā and lovely rustic touches in keeping with the shed theme. Ā The menu offered a number of sharing options and interesting lunch items, with vegetarians well catered for.<br/>We finally decided on the Parmesan & Capers Fish Cakes, the Tarte Tatin, and a side of onion rings. Ā The fish cakes (2) had a nice savoury bite from the capers and were served with a spicy sauce and a chunky tomato, cucumber and mixed leaf salad - so crisp and fresh like they'd just been picked. Ā The Tarte Tatin of baby beets and goats cheese was also accompanied by fresh salad, and the lightly battered onion rings came with lemon aioli.<br/>All the food was superb, the surroundings so charming and relaxed, the service prompt and attentive and always with a smile. Can't be faulted!!
