Review Gogo Music Cafe - Mount Eden

浩哥-奥克兰
This place is satisfying. Environment is good the food is good, danpan ji is yummy, you can see staff members making bbq by the counter. Service can be improved but what can you ask more? Ordering is easy by scanning the QR code. Dishes are large in portion but less in noodles. We will be back again. Other bad comments were mostly due to misunderstandings I believe.

This place is great for friends to gather for a meal; the atmosphere is lovely. However, the portion sizes are a bit small, but you can try a variety of dishes.

This place is busy! And for good reason, food is good quality and value for money is excellent. The atmosphere is alive and that can make it quite noisy so if you are after a quiet meal this is not the one. Ideal for a social event, catch-up with friends or celebration. You won't have an attentive waitperson but it's not required. Make sure your phone is charged. They have a QR code system which is always the best, scan at your table and order off your phone. Bill is paid at the counter at the end. We were three people, ordered enough for five, got a few drinks and it was only $110. Parking wasn't super easy, leave your car at home or car pool if you can.

Great place to catch up with friends, good for large group. Get very busy especially during weekend, allow up to 20mins wait. Tried a bunch of items and loved everything, can’t recommend the spinach beansprout salad is it’s too sour for my liking, the fried bun with condensed milk is a must order!! the combination of lamb and chives skewers are so good!

Taste: 7.6/10 Pretty reasonable price, generally good food. Great opening hours as it’s a good place to go for a late night snack. Would’ve preferred a thinner piece of meat on the skewer but I guess that can be a preference thing.

Cheap and great Chinese BBQ and drinks. The skewers, Chinese buns are all great. Surprisingly the garlic on skewers were great too (Not a fan of the Tofu though). Though it is big and can seat many guests, this place is extremely crowded so ensure you arrive early.

So it was my first time to go to GoGo Music Cafe even though I've been going to the surrounding restaurants for years but never knew about how amazing the food is! One of my friends suggested it and I absolutely loved the food. Who doesn't like BBQ! Great choices for food as well as drinks. The atmosphere and the decorations inside are really cool. Staff are friendly and also efficient. Thank you

It's not the best one you can have in town but it's definitely worth to try at least once! Sometimes I will be craving for Chinese BBQ in skewers style, this is one if my go-to place. It's been here for years, not only is popular in Chinese community, it is also very famous around Koreans and the local citizens. Anyway, highly recommended.

This place feels like a glitch in the matrix. Western saloon themes run the walls with animal skulls and painted cowboys. There’s a stage, but no one is singing. You’re not here for the music anyway. You’re here for the weird and wonderful foooooood. The menu offers a mix of safe options with some really brave ones to boot. We got a bit of both, lots of skewers that are all cooked over charcoal - yesssss! A few of the dishes use the same spice mix, it’s an aromatic mix of cumin, chilli and other oriental spices - the cumin get get in the way of some flavours but really saves some other dishes, like chicken feet - super brave option, we got it and as an experience and to say i have tried them, worth it, otherwise never again. From highlights, the cucumber salad, dumplings, eel, aubergine and the puffy bread with condensed milk for dessert. Get the beer tower, you’ll need it. Will be back for sure, we had a lot of fun.

Very good authentic Chinese food. Also it is cheap regarding the size of the meals while still having really high quality.

Skewers, flavour and cowboys. It is easy to get too much food here. But it is also easy to eat all of it. Like all great places, the food comes first over decor. The big fat hand pulled chicken noodles are A++

The skewers were fantastic- very flavorful and juicy. The Taiwanese sausage was a bit disappointing as it was >$2 for half a sausage, one of which was about 2/3 the size of the other 2 pieces. The needle mushrooms were a bit salty but the shredded potatoes were some of the best I've had in Auckland. Expect $175-$200 for 6 people Pictured: beef brisket, lamb trim, porkbelly, lamb with rosewood, cold-shredded potato, cucumber salad, needle mushrooms, Taiwanese sausage, coconut milk cream, and strawberry crushed ice.

We found a new place to eat. Loved everything we put in our mouths. Eclectic surroundings but I'm there to eat so I sont care about that. I love the passion fruit ice drink too. Still eating here regularly. One of the best late night meals you can get

Great food, and the setting is spacious which is a treat. Ordering is online from your table and water, cutlery, sauces etc are self service.

Had the best spicy fried chicken with handmade noodles ever! They provided such a variety of bbq food with low prices and to our enjoyment they all tasted amazing! I especially love their chicken which are so so so juicy and yummy. Noodles are made well and the bbq beef is beyond expectation. Will come again definitely.

Late night hang out spot on dominion road. This place gets busier when it’s getting late. A good place for friends’s gathering with some skewers, snacks and drinks. Recommended dishes: BBQ tamarisk lamb, fried mantao, squids and dan dan noodle. Food: 🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑 Price: 🌕🌕🌕🌑🌑 Ambience: 🌕🌕🌕🌑🌑 Service: 🌕🌕🌕🌑🌑

Great ambience. You can order online from the table. Chicken skewers, squid tenticles, prawans, lamb highly recommended. Spring rolls are frozen which we can get locally grocery store. Pork and chives dumplings are juicy. Overall 10/10. Booked a table 1 hr before we get there. Please book a table because this place is usually busy. All the foods are reasonable priced. You can get alcoholic beverages here. No BYO. Its not a right place for disabled people.

As mentioned in other reviews, it is definitely recommended to BOOK ahead if possible. We got there on a Friday night around 6pm and alreadt found ourselves waiting in line that extended to the stairs, however, the wait wasn't too long (about 20mins) and table rotations were quite fast. <br/><br/>This place is just fantastic and offers so much more than just skewers! <br/><br/>Almost every table had an order of Xingjiang Big Plate Chicken and portions are much bigger than expected. The small serving was still very large and can easily serve 4 people. The taste of the chicken had fragrances of curry and chillies and hints of sweetness. You can add the belt noodles for an extra $5 which can be a good addition if you don't want too much carbs and want to try something different. <br/><br/>The restaurants menu is so extensive you'll never run out of new things to try. Food comes out relatively fast and fresh and overall environment is clean with self service of cutlery and condiments. <br/><br/>Staff offers great customer service and are the most efficient in such a busy and fast paced service. <br/>

When a friend of mine suggested we go here I ignorantly didn't expect the meal I was about to have. Ordered a bunch of skewers and the Xinjiang Style Chicken with noodles. The skewers were decent and the noodle dish was great. The chew on the noodles were out of this world.
MChow
Food is delicious.<br/>Downside, they should make it to a point to give everyone receipt. DOM at that time shouted at someone for not paying. Turns out person paid already. Embarrassing for the customers tbh.

This place has never failed me, not once. Not packed for the first time as diners were quite cautious about eating out due to the current frenzies. The 'big plate chicken' was still as tasty. The handmade broad noodles were soaked in the chicken broth. Mild hot but it's hot enough for my taste bud. The 'golden needle mushroom" in cold dish style has always been my favorite and the different types of skewers were just as good as before.

I’ve been here countless times, but taking photos is near impossible due to the food coming out at different times and people always being hangry. Gogo Music Cafe has a very unique aesthetic (I guess that happens when you’re an old school steak house gone bbq skewer restaurant). My favourite things at Gogo are the Taiwanese sausages, cauliflower, fried buns w// condensed milk, cucumber salad, squid and dan dan noodles 🍜 One of the best things at gogo is that you get to control the level of spice by adding more chilli oil/powder where you see fit. This is especially perfect for me as I usually come here with people who have mild tastebuds. The Taiwanese sausage is literally like magic and I 10/10 recommend it even to the seasoned sausage haters. I love Gogo Music cafe and the variety it provides in not only food, but also ambience and levels of energy. The only problem which isn’t even a problem is that they don’t let you split pay (ttl for online banking).

Do not get their fresh/non-packaged drinks here. They taste awful and completely artificial at a high price- you are better off going to any of the milk tea places downstairs. Don't get them even with the zomato gold 2 for 2 drinks. They have a variety of kebabs and there are some quite decent ones for cheap prices- as little as 1 dollar per decently meaty skewer. Had their spicy chicken potato dish ($29) with hand pulled noodles (5 dollars extra for the noodles) which was quite good, especially the noodles which are thick and long and very satisfying to eat. The small size of the spicy chicken potato dish with hand pulled noodles is very large and could easily fill 3 to 4 people.

I love the chicken dish with noodles. Was big portion. Kind staff.

Wow I absolutely love this place, the skewers that I’ve tried have all been great. Really loved the big sharing xinjang chicken. It’s really busy and can be abit overwhelming but for me it kind of made it feel authentic. Would highly recommend weather is 2 or 10 of you

The food was ok.<br/><br/>I was asking our final bill to staff. <br/>But, the staff gave us a bottle of beer.<br/>I could understand that it was my falult too. (maybe?) But the staff was angry at me and he also speaks swear at me.<br/>It was terrible experience for me.<br/>I will not be back again.

Lamb skewers are good

Came in yesterday night for a late dinner for two. Got the cold noodles, dan dan noodles, fishballs, mushrooms, corn, potato, chicken, beef, lamb, pork belly skewers, the og milk tea and the lemon black tea with jelly. Absolutely loved everything we ordered. Usually not a big lamb fan but even the lamb was good. Loved how everything was spicy and how I enjoyed every bite of every thing I had. Was nice to have the refreshing lemon tea to cool me down. The cold noodles were drenched with sesame sauce and the dan dan noodles had a strong meaty flavour to it. These noodles were extremely worth for only approx. $4.50 each. The grilled corn is also highly recommended and I will be definitely getting more next time I come.

I got a few beef, pork, squid & lamb skewers, some pork and chives dumplings, and fried buns with condensed milk. It was really packed when I visited, eventhouh it was almost midnight. The skewers are nice but somee of them such as pork belly skewers were too small. Really liked the dumplings and the fried buns though:)
G1k
Be prepared to wait for a table during peak dinner times! <br/>We started off with a few lamb skewers. The size of the meat on the skewers have improved, delicious!<br/> We ordered the Cold Noodles and Dandan noodles (only $4.50 each), they are small but also make a good "starter". I enjoyed the warm dandan noolde better than the cold noodles. <br/>It took a while for our "main" dish (I think its called Xinjian Style Chicken, ordered with hand pulled noodles as per photo) to come out & also they seemed to have forgotten about the three bowls of rice that we ordered initially until we hit them up about it. Drench the wide noodles in the soup of the chicken dish so that they are absorbed with juice. I always find that there is always too much bone in the chicken, but I'm usually going in for the potato and capsicum.<br/><br/>Their dumplings are also pretty good too.<br/><br/>All of this go down nicely with a couple of glasses of Harbin beer or Tsingtao Beer.<br/><br/>If there is room for dessert we eat the deep fried buns with condensed milk (so bad but so delish).
Arianaaa
Good supper place if you want to chill and have some cheap skewers with your friends. But it does take some time to prepare so always order in bulk so you would have a great variety of food when it comes. Their meat and noodle platter is good for sharing between 4 people (their small portion) is considered huge. Drinks are cheap too!

First time tried this restaurant. Was really busy when we arrived, had to wait 15 mins for a table. It seems like a popular spot. <br/>Drinks are nice and cheap compared to other restaurants. <br/>Food was ok, but took really long to arrive. My meal arrived 15 mins before my wife’s food. <br/>Wait staff refuse to get you side plates or cutlery, was told to get it ourself. Bad customer service.

Always been the go to place for quick catch ups with my friends, especially for a mid night munch. The food here has always been pretty good, alot better than the one in botany. Only problem is it takes a while for the food to be served.
Karan Kapoor
My favorite late night spot. Staff is always friendly and helpful with the menu. The food is just amazing and very consistent. Flounder fish is the best one here but they always run out of it.
Pig Cat
Long queuing time and long cooking time! I went three times on weekends, all take about 40 minutes to eat the first skewer of lamb. Don't risk your life here if you are starving. Pick weekdays or somewhere else please.<br/><br/>Typical Chinese BBQ style, Chinese street food style. Price went up a little bit compared to the first time we came here, which I can understand. But skewers are not always good. the cooks there seemed way too busy.<br/><br/>I am not all that crazy about their skewers but I will recommend lamb skewers, roast oysters and roast trotters. I quite like the Xinjiang style chicken with handmade noodles, dandan noodles and clod noodles as well.<br/><br/>Zomato gold member gets 2+2 on drinks.
MCP
A nice shop in balmoral - They’re always busy on the weekend but this doesnt compromise the food! Food always great, quick service though can take a while to get our food.

I’m a regular at Gogo Music Cafe, in fact I believe the staff are beginning to recognise me! This is my go to for a cheap and tasty meal! My favourite skewers are the squid, Chinese buns, quail eggs, beef tongue and pork belly! However for value for money you can’t go past the beef brisket, chicken breast, chicken frame and lamb trim! Their dandan noodles are also a bargain 👍 I usually spend about $14 on skewers here and leave feeling pretty full!
Pankaj Kini
Awesome place for drinks with mates with skewers of flavourful meats and casual ambience. The beer is cold and food is cheap but tasty. Service could be a lot better but what else do you expect at a Chinese eatery on Dom road!<br/><br/>Not sure why it’s called a music cafe though. Never heard any music being played.
Annabel Du
Food was great, however service could be a lot better...<br/><br/>Got ignored twice and when you ask a question it was served with a side of bad attitude. 😅😅<br/><br/>Only the initial lady that took our order was cool, everyone else we dealt with was questionable.<br/><br/>I would go again but don’t expect good customer service lol
Brandon Huang
Not bad, but overhyped. The star of the show was definitely the hand-pulled noodles - so chewy and satisfying! 大盘鸡 was quite tasty but I expected a bit more oomph. The skewers were nice but under seasoned, and the drinks tasted like fake flavouring and were much too sweet. Overall, I would probably go to a different restaurant on Dominion - there’s so many options.

Nice place to have a good Chinese BBQ, love the environment in the cafe and staff are bit friendly.. food is really good especially there Taiwanese sausages are the best.. I wish they have more chicken dishes.. will definitely go again

Food 4/5<br/>Service 1/5<br/><br/>Waited for food for an hour and half.<br/>Food came and found out our lamb skewer was raw half-way through our meal.<br/>No apologies when notified.<br/>Nobody acknowledged their fault till we talked to manager.<br/>Finally talked to someone who took responsibility and we got refund.<br/><br/>I am not feeling well after that meal and am worried that the raw lamb was the cause.<br/>Do not expect polite service from here.
Emily
I ordered only kebabs but got their kung pao chicken last time. Kebabs were Not that outstanding. All good, quick eats.<br/><br/>They are known for their kebabs I'm guessing and not many other options.<br/><br/>Chicken dish was really nice n flavourful
Khanindrakaushish
Awesome environment and food. Service is terrible but I guess that adds to the theme 😂<br/><br/>What we recommend ordering for 2 people:<br/>5x lamb skewers<br/>1x small dapanji <br/>
Jenny Sheng
Such interesting interior. Great comfort food. Great place to share large portions with family and friends. If there was better service I’m sure the place should be well over 4.0
Dxlche
Absolutely love this place! They do a great big plate of chicken with noodles (大盘鸡). Their sliced potato side is the perfect balance of spicy and sour. It is a really good dish to start off your meal. They also do fried buns with condensed milk (in the photo), highly recommend if you haven’t tried this yet. Their mini dan dan noodles (担担面)was surprisingly tasty and very cheap.
SS
Four of us ordered a range of skewers (lamb, beef, Taiwanese sausages, pork belly, corn and cauliflower skewers) and also had the spicy stir fried chicken in Xinjiang special sauce with noodles. Skewers were okay, not the best. The potatoes in the chicken dish were delicious though, so good covered in the sauce.
Suri
Great place for a casual dinner, all skewers are nice. You can taste different flavours. We also had the spicy stir fry chicken with the hand made noodles, loved this dish

Gogo music cafe was the beat bbq in central Auckland in the decade……but i will only want to go back for dapanji not bbq now. service was friendly but slow, bbq meat was too dry. Dapanji still really good and delicious.

2.5/5 Taste<br/>3.5/5 Display <br/>3.5/5 Quantity <br/>2/5 Customer Service<br/><br/>Disappointing disappointing disappointing <br/><br/>This place has been my favourite place since I was young, I’d always drive there, order, happy to wait for an hour to get my dapanji.<br/>Now days, the wait for dapanji is so not worth it.<br/><br/>Skewers were alright, better than before when they were really small and dry, they seemed to be back to standard now. <br/><br/>Dapanji however was so salty one of my friend didn’t even touch it, and he goes to gogo music out east almost every week. <br/><br/>Truely sad indeed.<br/><br/>Il be back to abuse my Zomato Gold tho. 2+2 drinks who wants to join me <br/>
Food2belly
This was my first time here since 2014 and my first time trying fried buns with condensed milk (10/10). The spicy noodles (9/10)were quite spicy which is good for portion control 🤭 tofu skwers (10/10) can't go wrong with.

Their Da Pan Ji (big plate chicken) is amazing! The best in Auckland! Won’t comment too much on other dishes - they weren’t the purpose I come here😛😛😛

This is the first time I’d been to this amazing place, it was honestly really packed but we still managed to get a table for 2. The atmosphere was great and we spent less than we thought! Excellent services and staff were really welcoming. The food was awesome, and it’s a great place to get wasted and eat lots of spicy food! Love love love. Definitely recommend!
Seamus M.
What a great place to come after drinking, to nibble on succulent salty skewers that are well seasoned and flavoured which all skewers have the same flavoring but that doesn't take away the flavour from the meat. Topping it off with juicy dumplings, and a spicy soup. Of course we had to wash it all down with beer. Everyone around us looked like they were enjoying themselves, and they had some impressive dishes on their table.<br/>Not to go away without saying it is a popular place but we were lucky to get a table after waiting for 2 minutes.
Serena Low
TLDR - food 4/5; service 3/5; atmosphere 3.5/5; value for money 3/5<br/><br/>Dishes:<br/><br/>• Cucumber with chilli - refreshing with a bit of a kick, well seasoned<br/><br/>• tofu with spring onion - winner cos I love tofu and this was well seasoned with a whole lotta spring onion<br/><br/>• Lamb skewer - mine had a bone in it so it was kinda hard to eat, gotta be careful to not burn yourself on the metal skewer, meat itself was pretty tender<br/><br/>• boiled dumplings - I wanted pan fried and my friend ordered wrong so I was in a bad mood and it probably made it less satisfying than it had to be<br/><br/>• da pan ji (sp?) with noodles - another winner omg this was so yum and the portion size is massive, the gravy is so thick and yummy and its got chicken and potatoes and tbh I could drink the sauce, the noodles were delicious too. It is quite expensive however.<br/><br/>• pork belly skewer - I only ate one piece cos it was too spicy - if you like spicy food you'll like this<br/><br/>• spam skewer - I was scammed by my friends thinking this was deep fried tofu and it wasn't, I'm not a fan of massive cubes of spam...<br/><br/>We also got a few bottles of beer which were delicioussss (there's one in a white/blue bottle which is nice if you like light beer) and the atmosphere with friends was good in terms of us being allowed to be loud etc.<br/><br/>Interior design is strange for a Chinese restaurant, as they've kept the previous tenants design which I think was for like a Wild West themed restaurant?<br/><br/>It was also incredibly hot and there were no fans around or windows open.<br/><br/>Parking around the area is a bit annoying (off street) - you either park in a 60min and move or if you're around for dinner, find one that is unlimited time after 6pm.<br/><br/>I recommend getting the da pan ji noodle dish with a group of friends (order this straight away cos it takes like 30mins) and then supplement with other dishes in order to not waste food and order too much.
Claudynnlee53
This place has great vibes and the food is quick. The skewers are affordable and you get good value for what you pay for. I especially love the mantou buns, always so fresh and tasty!
Darren Big Belly
Food is decent. I wouldn’t say it’s amazing. Great place to come and eat skewers and drink beer till you’re tipsy. This is one of the OG of chinese skewers.

I love dining out with friends especially in Asian restaurants. I had a bad experience with them last Sunday wherein one of their male servers, shouted at us because of some miscommunication (on their end) the reason why is that we cannot understand his English properly that’s why we ask if he can repeat his sentences. He also did not apologize for what has happened and he also hurt my friend’s fingers because of the barbecue steel stick. <br/><br/>Just an honest opinion, we all live in a foreign country wherein English is the mother tongue of the people here. We are immigrants, wouldn’t it be nice if we can speak English properly? Chinese people should learn how to speak English properly, we are not the ones who will adjust the communication barrier because we know how to speak properly.
Bella Luv Food
Obviously not a fancy place but we’ve been eating here since college and still craving the food here after 5 years. It’s has many options including crazy asian food like beef tongue or chicken knee, feet, pigs ears salad... but they all very tasty. Price is very reasonable. Love the dumplings, super juicy. Suitable for a group eat or just by yourself.
Zxcvb2994
The service was the worst. And we asked 3 times to check the menu and they ignore. Even foods are served very slowike 40 mins even it were 5 chicken skewers. I waste 2 hours in here.

It's 12am and you're looking for a midnight snack? This is the place. Though I don't particularly enjoy the food or ambience, sometimes I might crave a few skewers of a sort or their taiwanese sausages. I don't normally come here but when I do, I often find the environment a bit "sticky" and oily and your clothes will definitely smell like some of the food served there. Nevertheless, I also tried their steamboat as well and they had good variety of dishes to go with that and staff was friendly. However, there are other options on Dominion Road I would normally prefer. <br/><br/>Food 6/10<br/>Ambience 5.5/10<br/>Service 6.5/10<br/>Price 6.5/10
Its Me
Another okay cheap food on dominion. Only thing I like about here is that they open til late. Especially there are way more options for Asian food in town (more non Chinese friendly Chinese restaurant that are cleaner and friendlier lol) I think food here is pretty average but they could be really really busy especially on the weekend so might have to wait. I personally like fat guys? Fat boys? On north shore way better than here tho in my opinion their menu is pretty similar but from what I remember the portion was bigger and price was cheaper
Emily Yang
Food was alright but this rating is for the staffs working there. It was absolutely a terrible experience. The staffs were really impolite, banging plates and slamming our food on the table. Would come back for the food but service is terrible.
Akym
Food is good, but noticed prices have been creeping up and size of meat skewers getting smaller. They don’t take bookings apparently so sometimes there can be a long queue at the entrance, but at least food gets served pretty quickly. Staff are generally not really friendly and can get quite impatient when taking orders.
Marnelli
My friend was super keen on coming to this place and I can see why. It was bustling even on a late night. There’s a big food selection with the cheap skewers being a big draw especially if you’re drinking. Pro tip from my friend: list everything on your phone so that it’s easy to remember when ordering haha. I think I need to try more dishes tbh. The skewers I got didn’t have much flavour for me but was definitely a fan of that cucumber salad. Props to the staff, great service after I had a few mistakes at ordering.
Bijal Patel
Waited for an hour for food, had to ask them twice before they even brought over anything. Not a single word of sorry or any compensation for their lack of customer service.
Quinn Mai
This place is spacious and has quick service. The bbq themselves are quite good. But the Xinjang spicy chicken noodle was a big disappointment despite the generous portion as it has wayyyy to much bones in it. Felt like we were eating a big plate of chicken bones.
Jamez Hill III
Came here for dinner on a Sunday. It’s quite a popular place and music is cranking the whole time (hence the name). I ordered every meat skewer, corn and mushroom skewer, the cucumber salad and the cut potato salad. Every skewer was quite spicy and gets stronger as you eat more. My favourite skewers were the lamb and prawn! The price is cheap! It’s a fantastic late night eat.
Thom
Good Place for hanging, skewers are pretty good although I remember they used to be better. The music most of the time isn't really to my taste but it is a place I would visit if I'm around Dominion.
Diogo Reck
Good skewers, wide range and good price, but not a big fan of environment and music. Would come back again for a late night snack though, specially with friends.
Amanda Grace Leo
Love my Gogo, usually the food comes really quick and it has a great selection. However, in recent times, I’ve been requesting that I get my skewers without the seasoning that is added while they’re on the grill and while this used to be no problem, there are a couple of staff who insist there is no seasoning only for them to turn up with seasoning... however, I do love this place and am always willing to give it another go!
Miae Kim
If you want to try hell service, try it. Worst service. I would never visit again. Poor customer service.<br/>We ordered it waiting for 30 mins and in the end they said haven't started to make it becuz of deep cleaning.
Natasha Geo
Good tasting, cheap food. Best to go with a group and order several skewers to share.<br/>Service can be a bit slow, but this is excusable during busy periods.
Jason Zhang
If you need a late night Chinese bbq snack, I do recommend this place on dominion road or any other branches. We always get the spicy stir fried chicken with noodles as it’s their most popular dish. The spiciness will wake you up with it’s tasty chicken but choose your spicy level carefully. I always get the crispy chicken skin and beef tongue too. The bbq flavor on those two is real tasty!<br/><br/>Taste - 7/10<br/>Size - 8/10<br/>Price - 7/10

My family of 5 came here as per my cousin's recommendation. For a Monday night, the place was quite busy and we had to wait for 10 minutes to be seated.<br/><br/>The wooden floor at the dining area was greasy, which was not a surprise because of what they serve (all kinds of barbecue). Some staff struggled to speak English, but luckily we got all our orders right.<br/><br/>We tried the following barbecues:<br/>Beef tongue<br/>Beef tendon<br/>Meat balls<br/>Fish balls<br/>Pork belly<br/>Chicken skin (tasted a bit raw)<br/>Squid tentacles (slightly chewy)<br/><br/>They all had the same flavour. Hence, I was looking for taste variety at the end of our meal.<br/><br/>The best dish of the night was the dandan noodles. It tasted like Japanese yakisoba. My tongue started to hurt on my second helping, though, due to its saltiness.<br/><br/>My son loved the cold tofu slices with chives! Meanwhile, we had steamed pork and spinach dumpling on the side for 10 dollars. There was nothing spectacular about it, but satisfying nonetheless.<br/><br/>We paid 69.50 for everything (no drinks). Not bad at all.<br/>
Ming
Great place to come for late night outs. Strongly recommend you come with a group that can all eat a bit of spicy because the no spice option leaves the food very bland. Rosewood skewers are the best but they're $4 a pop. Also a heads up they only do one bill per table.
Victoria Consuelo De Guzman
I came here with my brother and father one evening. We came in when it was bang on opening time. I actually would rate this as a 3.5 but I believe although it was a pretty decent quality of food, it can get quite expensive at the end.<br/><br/>Furthermore, there are other restaurants out there that can recreate the same type of food. It is good nonetheless for drinking as I had soju and it is the type of place you would go on a Friday night.
Tabitha De Guzman
Bloody love this place. We've never had a bad experience but there's areas for improvement.<br/><br/>Skewers are always good and cooked perfectly. They bring food in a decent amount of time.<br/><br/>Extremely affordable and so many food choices. Love their skewers, dumplings, cucumber salad and the spicy stir fry chicken with noodles. Drinks are okay but I don't really recommend them.<br/><br/>Just need to improve on their customer service and cleanliness.
AJ
It was love at first taste and I have been a regular since. You can go no wrong with any of the kebabs, delightfully smokey, crispy, and full of explosive spices. We usually also have a big plate chicken with noodles. The ribbon-like thick, chewy noodles coated with the spicy sauce is top notch stuff, though the oil does make you sick of it rather quickly. The portion of this is massive and you can take away your leftovers but they don't reheat too well especially the noodles. Crispy buns with condensed milk are also a wonderful accompaniment. Dumplings are okay.<br/><br/>Service is nothing special but the food and atmosphere is everything here, we've also had dinner with live music here.

Can't find the pictures of the food but I'm sure u can find it online for sure lol...food is amazing there, so does the atmosphere if u like it being little crowded at times...had some amazing nights over the evening with friends which totally worth it...i will definitely going back there again and again 😊😊😊

really awful service. never visit again. They served extra noodle on the dish to our table. Then come and grab half noodle out in front of us on the table with anger.
Rohit
Quick fast food place. Had a variety of skewers - chicken, pork, crab and veges. Chicken was my favourite. Flavours are good. Service and ambience is good. Open till late always a plus. Had the taro milk tea - yum.

Gogo Music Cafe, or "RGB Colour Model" as transliterated into Chinese, is a great spot to hit when you fancy a casual (or intense) BBQ meat fix. It offers a multitude of BBQ skewers selections, including the most popular lamb and beef skewers, as well as the "Dapanji" which is always a crowd favourite. However it is befallen by poor acoustics, and a tired restaurant setting.<br/><br/>The BBQ skewers present themselves in a multitude of forms. The typical meats - lamb, beef, chicken and pork (in order of popularity) are always a must-order, these are the staples of the BBQ skewer culture. The skewers also are available for vegetables, such as potato, corn and mushroom. They also offer other dishes such as cold dishes, for example we ordered "Koushuiji" (Steamed chicken with chilli Sauce and soy sauce). However, the signature dish is the aforementioned "Dapanji"(Chicken stew combined with potatos and thick wide noodles, seasoned thoroughly with chillies). It is a huge platter of chicken that sure is to please everyone. The establishment also offers many kinds milk teas and beers as drinks.<br/><br/>Our order included "Danpanji" (Chicken Stew combined with potatos and thick wide noodles), Deluxe BBQ Chicken Skewers, BBQ Oysters, and "Koushuiji" (Steamed chicken with chilli sauce and soy sauce). The taste was very good, nothing spectacular, but very solid. Price was generally fair.<br/><br/>The ambience is very energetic and lively. However, this creates excessive volumes of background music, and combined with the large tables, makes talking across the table much too laboursome and taxing, especially for extended periods. Gogo Music Cafe occasionally offers live band performances, transforming the acoustic setting into one that's more befitting of a nightclub, and not surprising, customers quickly left in droves as a consequence.<br/><br/>Service was generally positive. Very pretty ladies attending the tables, which always makes the dining experience more eye-watering even if the food doesn't happen to be otherwise mouthwatering.

We ordered stir fry chicken in xinjang sauce which is very popular and a few different types of skewers. The food is quite nice overall, the stir fry is quite good with my type of spicyness and the skewers as well. But the thing is their service is quite slow and not that accomodating, and the place is quite hot and no good ventilation as well, we went their hottest day of summer and i notice the windows are not even open no fan or airconditioning considering their grill is inside the cafe itself that adds heat in the place.<br/><br/>*tips, order all you want in one go because if you add order in the middle of your dine. it takes ages
Jason Yang
Food is okay but I ecommend the gogomusic in east tamaki. The service here is non existent. Staff will never smile. Food takes on average 1 hour to arrive every time I go. Maybe they should have more than one guy on the grill.
Joe HU
Well. The BBQ is just like the homemade. And the price is not cheap. <br/>The chicken with noodle is the only tasty food in there. <br/>The food is so dry
Lina Nguyen
If you want to try out a hell service, feel free to come in and experience it. Staffs were talking behind my back because I told them that they've got my drink wrong. If you can not be nice to customers please do not work in a restaurant.
Supreeth Esturi
Well this BBq place is amazing to go with a set of friends. Service is quite disastrous. But the food is good. Skewers are must try dishes .
J Li
It's quite a busy place but their big plate chicken is amazing, and also nice bbq skewers. Try dumplings dipping into the plate chicken sauce! Service is pretty average to be honest.
Kelly Vilisoni-Richards
Came here for a work dinner. <br/>Lovely atmosphere and interesting cowboy style decorations. The place gets packed pretty quick and there was a line out the door waiting for a table. Personally I did not enjoy the food as everything was far too spicy, despite ordering mild food. Some of our orders were quick to come out, and some weren't. The beers are quite big which is great. Clean and tidy restaurant.
Nibin Purushothaman
Best place for a casual food hangout.good quality and cheap.big fan of the beef bbq screwers .only negative will be the time delay. Recommend the Asian Beer with some good screwers .

I am a regular at this place. Love their skewers specially the lamb, lettuce, mushroom, chicken n fish balls were really good. Their spicy fish dish is very nice n you can add other items like veges n all as well to make it more yummy. <br/>Be careful if you decide to order their signature chicken with potato n capsicum dish as the portion is quite big. Order small one if you are in a group of 3-4. Big one along with skewers n all could be a bit too much. <br/>Service is average but you too get your food pretty quick most of the time.<br/>The ambience of this place is pretty kool, gives you nice vibe n sometimes they have live music over the weekends as well.<br/>Go n indulge yourself over here & you will surely love the food in this restaurant.<br/>And don't forget to order the deep fried buns which is served with condensed milk to finish things off... its yummmm

I just went to Glenfield Gogo Music which was bad choice. No water, no cups, no drink even I asked so many times for it.<br/> I can understand that the food came so slowly but can not accept that staffs being so rude to us. <br/>One of hall manager spilled soup on my bag but didn't even say sorry. She exactly saw what she did to my bag but she just walked away. It's hand made bag. I paid $15 to wash all dirty food things. And the other staff got wrong orders from us (twice) and complained to us "you told me you want this". We quite shocked what they said to us. Bad service, rude staffs, dirty dishes. I have been Gogo Music so many times in Dominion rd which is so much better than 'Glenfield' shop.
Jeffie
Another favourite Dominion rd spot. Service and ambience is very much standard here, can get quite loud at times. We had some bbq lamb, cucumber salad, pork/chive dumplings, spicy stir fry chicken in special sauce, ice cream balls and fried buns. Everything was brought out in good times, hot and delicious. I do like coming here for a consistently good feed a bit later than your usual dinner time.

Finally dined here after hearing about it for so long. The restaurant is upstairs so you kind of have to spot the sign to walk up the stairs to the restaurant like My Kitchen.<br/><br/>The decor is simple yet strange. I really don't know how to describe it. It's like they've taken over a rodeo restaurant during Christmas and haven't changed the decor. The later it gets the busier it is. Lots of young people and lots of drinks.<br/><br/>The food is tasty and flavoursome. The food is very affordable and there is a lot to choose from. If you like grilled meats they have an array of meat and animal insides on their skewer menu. I would have liked the Taiwanese sausage to not be cut in half. <br/><br/>The mini dan dan noodles are quite flavoursome with a bit of a kick. The dumplings are ok. I wish they had pearls or jelly options for their bubble tea.
Nivruti Vora
Customer service is really poor, waiters looked at us and turned away even though we waved. I wouldn't recommend this place and will never go back.
Christina Hibbard
Enjoyed the Xi'an Jiang chicken ordered small portion which we shared between 4. Good sized portion but we did need to order and extra serving of noodles to soak up the all thoughs delicious juices. We also ordered pork and chicken dumplings, cucumber salad and some skewers beef tounge and lettuce skewers, they were all amazing.
Kaye Arguelles (ZOMATO GOLD CODE: KAYE 6954)
Im quite a regular at this place as i always crave for their sticks. But when I came here last night to introduce this late night music cafe to 6 other people, I wouldn't say I was impressed. The service was a bit poor - tried to get their attention several times so we could give our orders in, the guy who took our order acted like he was rush ( we came in at around 11ish and the place wasn't packed), another guy came to drop our food to our table ( he literally dropped it ), and at the end they also forgot one of our orders. Would still come back tho but I don't know if it's still worth introducing to other people.
Delicious
Ordered lamb and chicken hearts. It took around 40min for some chicken hearts to come out but the lamb never came. After 20 more minutes of waiting I asked when it was coming out. "1 min" she said. Nope.... Then they had the audacity to try and charge me for the non existent lamb they never served. The heart was burnt and dry
Audrey Tay
Absolutely terrible service at Gogo tonight.<br/><br/>I ordered a small plate of Xinjian style chicken + ramen and waited ONE HOUR before leaving. 45 minutes in, I approached a waitress and asked her how long more the meal would take. She went to the kitchen to check and came back saying it will only take 1 more minute. 15 minutes later, still nothing. To take 60 minutes to make one plate of noodles on a Wednesday night when the restaurant is only ~1/3 full, is unacceptable. Worse yet, a few tables were served the same meal we ordered, all in one go, but we missed out even though we ordered before some of them.<br/>No warning that service would take long, no apologies for the wait.<br/>Will not visit again.
Coco_Clairy
This is one of my favorite places for Chinese skewers. They have live music and open until really late time. It has been my first Chinese BBQ choice for years. Yummy food and various choices.
Gigio T
The name of this place is misleading. This is a Chinese BBQ joint and perhaps the best Chinese BBQ in New Zealand. A hidden gem until a couple of years ago. The decor is strange and "unique" - a mix of American-Western, old Christmas decorations, Mexican, Italian, and some Chinese posters. The place is a bit grimey and worn, but the food is well priced and fantastic! Ambience is relaxed and casual. Always crowded and opens until 3-4 am. I recommend the BBQ lamb kebabs and the "big plate chicken" with noodles, which is one the greatest dishes in Auckland. The flavours are deep and complex. Make sure you order the "small" one which is enough to feed an army. If you are not Chinese, I recommend bringing a Chinese friend the first few times, to help you navigate through the menu.
Oksana Zhang
Came here during peak hours, we didn't wait too long to be seated, but had to share a table. The floors were really sticky and slippery, not sure what's up with that. <br/><br/>The prices are cheap but the portion you get is pretty disappointing. A lamb skewer for example, was like a finger's length and almost no meat around the thick metal skewer. The oysters were nice though! <br/>Overall pretty average experience, service took ages as well, food was real slow to arrive. <br/>Not a big fan
N Song
I love go go music cafe. You need to order the Xinjiang chicken with ramen, lamb skewers (many of my Taiwanese friends say it is the best in Auckland) and some fried buns with condensed milk. The Xinjiang chicken small can feed 4-6 people! It's super good value, open till 2am everyday. <br/>The service is really bad but I always come here for the food and drinks with lots of friends
Kiwi Eats Asia
I love grilled food on skewers and Gogo does it super well - I recommend the corn (way more for your money than corn at other Chinese BBQ places!), lamb skewers are great (very small amount on the stick though which is fairly standard it seems) and the grilled spiced mantou (steamed bread buns) - a genius way to get rid of day old mantou! So delicious with meat skewers. We tried the classic big spicy chicken dish. It was yummy but a bit oily for my liking with not enough chicken on the bones and wouldn't mind a few more veges mixed through. I also found the service to be friendly and the team were happy to explain anything we asked. Can't wait to go back :)
Vinmanrules
The food is not bad. There are other similar BBQ places in Auckland to choose from. I can gaurentee better service from any one of those other BBQ places. This is probably the rudest food place I've experienced in NZ. Add to that, their prices aren't what I'd call cheap. I would find it very difficult to recommend this place up anyone.
Tony Ma
大盤雞! big plate chicken. Hand made noodles! A must!<br/><br/>I always get wasted here, big bottles of beer are cheap. We go through 4-5 bottles easy then add the Chinese wine and get fxxxxx up!<br/><br/>Great place for a late night snack!<br/><br/>Environment: 3/5<br/>Food Quality: 4/5<br/>Food Quantity: 4/5<br/>Service: 3/5<br/>Price $30-$40pp
Pania George
Food 5<br/>Service 3<br/>Ambience 3<br/><br/>If you like spicy food, I would highly recommend this place. A small xinjiang chicken with a side of ramen can feed 3 with ease. I also like the BBQ beef, lamb and chicken sticks. If you find yourself wanting to try this place on a Friday or Saturday night, be prepared to be waiting a while as this place gets quite busy and you may have wait times of around an hour. The decor is quite bad, staff are not very attentive but food makes up for it all.
Bhagyesh Prabhumirashi
Awesome and favourite place of mine .. Love skewers. Specially chicken, lamb, mushroom and its very cheap in price. Love pork and chives dumplings and dan dan noodles ...
Disha
I was almost itching to give it a 5. This place is my absolute favourite for bbq style food. Their best ones would be bbq lamb, garlic and pork. We need more of these places. The staff has had a massive improvement off late so well done. Coming to the place itself, a massive dining hall which has Mexican decor looks like it used to be a Mexican bar in the pas. Be prepared to wait even on a weekday. <br/>They have the curry chicken which I feel is overrated but seems to be sitting on every table. We like to make use of the skewers as much as possible. It is our go to place when we can't think of anything and also cause we get cravings ;)
Marggie Pascua
Gogo has great BBQ, not enough for what you get so you're always tempted to get more. the prices are a bit too much for the what you get but they aren't too bad.
Arushi Thapar
A really nice place for having Chinese. Great ambience with good music making you feel relaxed. <br/><br/>Spacious seating and a friendly staff.<br/><br/>Talking about the food, I tried xinjiang style chicken and barbeque chicken. Both the dishes were delicious, loved the preparation style and the quantity was also good.<br/><br/>All in all I can say that I had a good experience.
ACO
Our go to place for late late night dinners.<br/>We always order the Xing Jiang style chicken (& potatoes - oh the potato chunks in that dish is soooo yummy) with rice.  They do really good bbq skewers too. Not pricey at all.<br/>Desert :fried buns with condensed milk.
Ben M
Came here for kebab skewers and dumplings late at night. It was pretty busy for 10.30 at night which I was hoping was a good sign. <br/><br/>The kebab skewers are all basically just seasoned with cumin powder and whacked on the bbq. They were reasonably tasty - nothing to rave about, and the quality of meat is pretty poor. If they chose better quality meat and maybe mixed up the seasoning a bit, I think they would be onto a winner here.<br/><br/>The dumplings were OK, there are a lot better in the area.<br/><br/>Value for money was pretty good - 12 skewers (mixture of lamb, pork, chicken, and prawn) and 20 dumplings for $36.00, but the quality of food is not good enough to get me back there.
Ray Jay
Great place for Chinese BBQ and I do recommend the spicy chicken noodle, careful as this dish the portion size is very large. Quite busy on weekends and weekdays u should be able to get a seat without booking. Food tastes great and prices are of expected for Chinese BBQ.
Heartshrooms
Quite a surprising find. Once you walk up the stairs, you're greeted with quite a clean and spacious interior that has a great atmosphere unlike most of the bare restaurants on the rest of Dominon Road. There's a variety of skewers (all dusted with the same cumin seasoning) and dishes to order and it seems like quite a popular place for groups..The smokey smell does tend to cling onto your clothes so I'd recommend wearing something suitable. This place is mostly self service in terms of water, cutlery and condiments, and food comes out quite fast. Bonus is if you come around 8pm, there will be entertainers performing live music :)
Prem C
Great place to hang out with friends, have a few drinks and nice food.<br/>Liked the BBQ kebabs but wasn't an overall choice about an year ago. Not sure if it's a change of heart or management but this place is my favourite now. The way they transformed their chicken curry dish is just amazing. You can now ask for without chillies and they accommodate your request.<br/>Non alcoholic beverages are a bit pricey but hey it's not that bad.<br/>Try their BBQ spuds and garlic - really amazing.<br/><br/>Just one thing though. Don't understand a bit when you get the bill. It is not in English and you wouldn't have a clue if they charged you incorrectly or if you want to review it.
Kelly
Skewers delight! <br/><br/> Came here to feast on some skewers due to some late night cravings. Ordering corn, beef, squid tentacles, beef tongue skewers.<br/> Fairly good value for price as the skewers are of decent sizes. Seasoned well and grilled well.<br/><br/> Staff are friendly, not much I can fault. It's a typical skewer place and proves to be popular!<br/> Will be back for more to satisfy cravings
Nathalie
We ate here because we were craving BBQ sticks at 10pm! Arrived and the place was packed! We had to wait 15-20mins for a table (2 people). Place looks clean and fresh lots of spaces to move around and tables aren't close to each other. Food wise not much choices, we ordered fried/steamed buns, large home made noodle with some potato and few chicken (I was not impressed), dumplings (were okay, nothing special) and some BBQ sticks (chicken was good, but beef sticks were not because they were chewy and over cooked). Overall the place is "okay" and we don't go often as there are better similar places around the area too. However I do like the live music sometimes!
Divjot Singh
Nice place to be. You walk through the shady stairs and enter a vibrant #skewers delicacy place, filled with folks & music. The place is a good hangout for a change.
Ridad
Place is very busy and it'll take some time to get a seat. The skewers were good specially the beef and lamb chops. The chickeb bones wasn't good at all though. We also tried the special fish dish which was great. Would go back to check out their special chicken dish.
Penelope Chua
Their Xinjiang Chicken is fab with hand pulled noodles. I love their skewers, especially the beef tongue, pork, chicken, lamb and chicken skin. Cap it off with fried buns with sweetened milk, and you've got a meal that satisfies. Only set back is the noise, and the crowd. As with any good places to eat, sometimes, it may take a while to get a seat. And, service could be better too.
Anastasia Kadir
Typical chinese restaurant that serve big portion with good price. Ideal for family/ friends dine. Last time we ordered chicken noodle and others bbq for 3 people, I was surprise to see how huge the portion and the taste was so good. Also I came around 5.30pm so there is not much customer with loud voice.
Hugh McGeady
Hey<br/><br/>My partner and I get excited whenever I suggest we go here for dinner. This should be enough though let me elaborate on why we like this place.<br/><br/>- from what we've tried in the 6 or 7 times we've been there, at least 90% of the food has been good. The cheap noodle/disgusting luncheon meat dishes being the only thing I refused to eat. I love the skewers. Every single skewer is amazing.<br/><br/>- Order medium, to medium-hot as hot is unbelievably hot.<br/><br/>- I don't enjoy the favorite desert, though everyone else seems to so deinitely give it a go!<br/><br/>- Admittedly the service is terrible. It takes forever and they couldn't care less about you unless you speak Chinese. Then you receive excellent, quick, almost like pre-booked service. I tried to build rapport with a few of the waitresses but only one considered responding.<br/><br/>I really love this place regardless of it's flaws. They're busy and it makes sense they prioritize quantity over quality. It's very, very affordable and I regularly go there.<br/><br/>Dumplings, lamb chop, cauliflower are our facorite
David Vince
Different type of restaurant, everything is kebab sticks. Everything tastes great but did not try the chicken knee kebabs (probably a bit bony).
Jemimah
This may not be the most accurate review as we visited during the early hours of the New Year.<br/><br/>We arrived around 12.30am, with the place half filled. We ordered milk tea, their known skewers, and fried man Tao.<br/><br/>Food took a while to arrive, especially the skewers. Like most Chinese places, service isn't a priority. Was a bit different here with skewers being their best seller, each table had a long plate where the skewers would be placed, and a metal cylinder for finished skewers. I tried the lamb and mushroom skewers. The lamb wasn't very impressive, needing to be seasoned and further spiced (asked for medium). The mushroom was pretty good otherwise. Their milk tea was a bit funny, being quite powdery, something I wouldn't order or recommend. The best thing we had was probably the fried man Tao which was just fried bread served with condensed milk.<br/><br/>Gogo music cafe is a good place for big groups and late night eats. However, I personally wouldn't come back here as there are better eateries.
Queena
Always thought this place looked far too dodgy and never bothered or wanted to go there. It's got a narrow doorway that leads upstairs to the restaurant. <br/><br/>One of my friends finally convinced me to go with her and another friend. And hey, it wasn't too shabby. Inside looked like nice and proper. <br/><br/>As my friend had been there before, she recommended the xinjiang chicken + noodle dish to share -which was a massive bowl when it arrived. We asked for no spice as some of us couldn't handle it. The noodles were DELICIOUS! The potatoes in it were nice. <br/><br/>We also ordered some lamb skewers. They were great too, for only 80c per skewer. Totally worth it. <br/><br/>And last but not least, their fried buns with sweet milk aka condensed milk, was TO DIE FOR! So crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Normally other places would make them rock solid -so unappetising. <br/><br/>Overall, pricing is good, feed is good. Would definitely come back for dinner or late night snacks. <br/><br/>Service is the typical Chinese restaurant kinda service. Not very attentive and you have to wave for their attention. They can be rude at times.
Edmond Shen
This place is my go to when it comes to late night munchies. We usually get the large spicy chicken with noodles. It is very filling and pricing is alright if shared between a couple people. Skewers are also quite cheap but isn't the best quality meat. Service is pretty awful but I don't come here for that so that's okay. Otherwise, good pricing for what is offered
Jihye Kang
I highly recommend the lamb skewers and the massive plate of chicken stirfry from here. I do try other things from here but I always go back to the lamb skewers and the chicken plate. Good vibe, cheap food, may have to line up on busy Friday nights.

In terms of food quality, hygiene and price, gogo music cafe is great place to have dinner or something to eat after dinner. Just one flaw is that.. it is very noisy. All I hear is... Chinese saying something that I have no idea.
Charlene Weaver
My family and friends recommended this place and finally took me here the other night. <br/><br/>We ordered tofu salad, cucumber salad and the shredded mushroom salad to accompany the mixed BBQ meat skewers we ordered. I really liked the cucumber salad, tasty and refreshing with the spicy meat. I also loved the beef tongue, super soft and tender. All the meats were well flavoured and had that smoky taste from the BBQ. <br/><br/>We also ordered their signature hand pulled noodle dish. This was the highlight for me. Really huge plate filled with a tasty curry chicken topped with hand pulled noodles and we also asked for pork and chives dumplings to be mixed in which were SO GOOD. I actually prefer the dumplings to the noodles!! Try it next time ;) <br/><br/>Would definitely recommend this place to anyone wanting to branch out and try some different places other than the standard Barilla and new flavour restaurants!! :)
FoodLoco
After seeing lots of pics of big noodle dish on zomato I decided to give this place a try.<br/>Ordered the chicken noodle dish and some kebabs..<br/>Chicken - 2/5.<br/>Iam usually a fan on hand pulled noodles, dandan noodles etc.. but I wasnt really of this dish the noodles werent too bad but its the curry like sauce that I didnt like.<br/><br/>Kebabs- 3.5<br/>The kebabs were yum, not enough meat.<br/>

I've been here (and their Burswood branch) many times! Their service have improved since the first time I've tried it. They no longer seem to fear you if you do not speak Chinese. We are often greeted pretty quickly upon arrival. <br/><br/>This place has a pretty cool set up and while it does have a stage for artists, I've only ever seen one live performance and it was rather impressive. Other times they play popular English and Chinese hits. <br/><br/>The flavours are pretty much the exact same combination of spices for all their skewers so really you're ordering based on what texture you enjoy in your mouth. <br/><br/>For the longest time the staff didn't know the difference between mild and medium level of spiciness. We figured it out though and would order "medium" if we wanted mild and vice versa. It appears they've figured it out or someone has finally taught them. It was amusing while it lasted. <br/><br/>A surprisingly good thing to order is their potato skewers. The quality of their lamb chops are a bit hit and miss. So is the size of their chicken knee especially for that price.<br/><br/>My friend absolutely loves the Xinjiang chicken dish but be sure to order the small size unless you're trying to feed a party of maybe like ten people. I don't actually think I've even seen the big option. The flavours of this dish is really good but the chicken seems to be more often skin and bone. I prefer this dish to have actual chicken meat.<br/><br/>There is an extensive drink list as well.<br/><br/>There's no splitting of your bill and they also do not accept credit card.

Gogo Music Cafe is a pretty cool set up; you'll find it through a small doorway and up some stairs. I used to walk by all the time without thinking to go inside. I must have assumed it was a Karaoke bar or something! I was lucky enough to have a friend introduce me to this restaurant and now it's one of my Dominion Road faves. If it's your first time here, you have to try the lamb skewers. You can choose the spiciness - they will add cumin and chilli when grilling, and you can add more condiments when it arrives on your table (just remember not to rub your eyes).<br/><br/>For $1.50 I don't think the Chinese sausage was very worth it (3 thin slices of sausage, not a whole sausage), especially considering a lamb skewer is $0.80. The chicken wings on a skewer are good with lots of spices dusted on. Lamb chops are also not worth purchasing; I would recommend going with the regular lamb. The Xin Jiang styled chicken with noodles is very good but you'll have to share it with at least three other people if you would like to have room for ordering other dishes. I also felt a bit conflicted eating skewers while tucking into chicken/potatoes/noodles at the same time - but that's probably more of a personal observation than a faux-pas or anything. No one will judge you for doing so. <br/><br/>The music at Gogo is a hilarious mix of Chinese faves and NZ top 100 tracks. Decor is Elvis/American/Wild West themed. I would recommend not wearing your nice jacket to this place, because you will leave smelling like BBQ'd spicy lamb. Note that if paying by Eftpos, your bill cannot be split at the counter.<br/>This is great cafe for delicious food and hanging with friends. I always have a blast eating here and enjoy bringing friends to try something new.

Went here last night on a dumplings mission. We shared some pork & chive dumplings which were packed with flavour. Awesome value as well. I loved the fact they have a range of sauces & bowls you can use to mix sauces & make your own sauce. The place is a little run down but did have quite a cute atmosphere.
Lauren
It was really yummy! I ordered xian chicken stlye with noddle, lam, burn with sweet source and Chingtao. I and my friends do enjoy the food. But it took longer than i had thought. So some people were waiting for the seats especially friday night. And there was few chicken pieces in the chicken dish.

Bbq pork is the best skewer in my opinion and the buns with the sweet milk is a nice dessert as well. The place had music playing in the background and always packed! Good place for dinner or late night snacks
Michelle Arden Anderson
This place is one of our favourites, we frequent it fortnightly. It's such a casual, fun, know-what-youre-getting each & every time place; which is exactly what you want for this price point. Cucumber salad followed by chicken heart, mushrooms, garlic skewers on a small bowl of rice with your own mixture of soy, chilli, sauces to your liking is my idea of a good meal. Washed down with a cold Heineken or the ice crushed mango drink is the way to go. The dining experience is even better if you get a great waiter willing to interact, explain the food and have a bit of good dinner banter; one of the ladies is so lovely and chatty.
Ed
Great late night place to snack on different flavoured skewers.<br/><br/>These are delicious and hit the spot on a midnight food run with or without drinks to wash it all down.<br/><br/>Food: 8/10<br/>Service: 3.5/5 <br/>Ambience: 3.5/5<br/>Value: 3.5/5<br/>Overall: 18.5/25

Yummy and only $20 each or less to be absolutely stuffed! Love the deep fried buns. Meat skewers were a bit too fatty, but everything tasted pretty good.
Iris Peng
A great place for late late dinner and night snack. Lamb skewer is the must try in my personal opinion and recommand sweet black rice congee. Still, there are more dishes that worth visiting next time!
Shelly
Cant even count how many times i've been here, the place is mostly always packed full and you have to wait a while for your table unless you book for a big group. The skewers are my favourite even though all the seasoning are the same...i also love the deep fried buns and cucumber salad. Its great that they open late.
Alice Ma
Love this place, can't get enough of it! Plenty of space for everyone. Love the lamb skewers, tried spicy, mild, super spicy. Super spicy was too spicy for me though.

Gogo music cafe is a surprising cute name. Blasting some fine Jay Chou classics, I found it nostalgic and made me reminisce my travels in Asia. <br/><br/>We were a group of 6 hungry yo-pros and we came ready for a feast. <br/><br/>This place as it turns out is brilliant. We were absolutely blown away by the food. Our dishes were packed with flavour, and we didn't have to wait long. The service is what you would expect from most Chinese places limited as in they won't stop and have a jolly chat with you. <br/><br/>I love a place that has great portions and boy did this place deliver, refer to my pictures. The taste of charcoaled chicken, lamb and beef had our group in BBQ heaven.<br/><br/>We had 60 skewers, 40 dumplings and 12 Chinese buns and it came to a modest cost of $84.00. I will be back again this weekend.<br/><br/>Showstopper: Quality and wholesome food for a fantastic price. <br/><br/>Overall grading: A-<br/><br/>

The worst service ive ever experienced in my life. All of the staffs were irresponsible regarding to customer service. They missed all of our order which made us to wait more than 2 hours. We asked for the same thing again over and over again. Brainless staff finally brought our food but our food was cold as my ex's heart. This is not all, they sold the rat looking piece of meat and claimed as a chicken. I got food poison after that. This is serious issue. My friend is going through severe diahorrea as i write this. They need to compensate for this. I do not recommend going this place unless if you are looking for a diahorrea.

Forgot to take photos of the rest. But can't go wrong out here. Filling. Busy as though! Asked for mild but it came out as we were crying after a bite. So spicy!! But it was good :) came with partner and my girlfriend and partner. Nice chill ambiance. Would go back here again.

Came here last night with a party of 15 and I was very pleased they accommodated for us! <br/>When ordering I could tell that the waitress was getting impatient, however understandable, she should've had a better attitude.. <br/>The variety of skewers is plentiful and their small size of chicken and noodles was HUGE! <br/>Our biggest regret was ordering the chicken skewers, dry, over seasoned and just not right! <br/>Some lamb skewers were drenched in oil and as I bit into one I could feel the oil oozing onto my tongue. Was not impressed. Although I recognize no one comes to GoGo Music Cafe to have a healthy salad, I was not expecting that level of grease!<br/>The spicy seaweed salad was sweet more than spicy, overpoweringly sweet! But the cold cucumber salad was decent and we enjoyed it! <br/>Being not so big a fan of spicy we ordered all skewers to be non-spicy and since they couldn't have a plain rice noodle and chicken bowl we had to settle for mild. It was ridiculous how spicy everything was! I was incredibly irritated and went through bottles of water! <br/>However atmosphere was enjoyable, relaxing, and for a cuisine like this it was acceptable. <br/>

Service: -*<br/>Food: 4/10<br/>Cleanliness: 5/10<br/>Value for money: 6/10<br/>Overall: 5/10<br/><br/>* the only service provided to us was taking orders and delivering our orders. We had to get our own cutlery, water etc.<br/><br/>Heard a lot about this place, though it did not live up to its hype.

I have so many mixed feelings about this place. I've been here so many times and the customer service is literally non-existent. Tonight, me and my partner stood waiting at the entrance for fifteen minutes and no one even acknowledged us. To be fair, they were almost full but there were definitely waitresses that saw us and chose not to greet us. What was even more annoying was two men who walked in after us didn't even acknowledge that we were "first in line" for a table (not that there was a line, but we obviously got there before them) and skipped the queue and went straight to sit at a table the waitresses were cleaning. What??!??? I don't even understand how this is okay. We decided to wait by a table that was being cleaned as well because after fifteen minutes, it was clear that we weren't going to be served. <br/><br/>The service is pretty much like this every single time I come here. They're a bit nicer to you if you speak Chinese which is ridiculous and so frustrating! When we were finally seated, it took us another fifteen minutes to order. I waved a waitress over and she nodded and then went to give another table a drink and instead of coming to us afterwards, she went to clear one of the tables!!!??!? We had to wave over another waitress who actually bothered to come over. The whole customer service experience tonight was seriously annoying. <br/><br/>We ordered the small plate of chicken (their specialty) and some lamb skewers as well as chicken skin skewers. We pretty much get the same thing every time we come here! The skewers are decent and the chicken dish is so good! Add a side (or two) of ramen and it comes with these delicious hand made noodles! The small portion is always way too much even when we have up to six people dining with us! I'm a little curious as to how big the big portion of chicken is....<br/><br/>Go to Gogo music cafe just for the food. The food is good enough for me to keep coming back! i don't expect good service from a restaurant like this, but it would definitely make the dining experience a lot nicer if we were acknowledged.

This place is really interesting. I have walked pass this place many many times and didn't know that there was a restaurant upstairs. <br/><br/>I found this place from looking for late night eat in Auckland and literally looked for street number from map. When I walked into the place, I felt like I was in Asia! The decoration, menu, customers...nothing like you are in NZ haha which was good....something different.<br/><br/>I just ordered few of bbq lamb, beef, pork, chicken and of course I ordered them hot..and I can tell you that they know what HOT is! They are tiny meat stick but full of taste! You just want more and more. <br/><br/>This place is really good to hang out with friends and just keep drinking and eating all night long.

Comfort food at heart. Gogo's  Xinjiang Style Spicy Chicken is to die for - after all these years the standard is still there. Service isn't particularly attentive but you shouldn't expect it to be, at a joint like this. be sure to dial down on the spiciness if you're not used to this type of food. Their skewers are amongst the best in town - and perfect for a late night snack after big night in town.

I visit here once in a while with family or friends at night times. Their skewers are just like other chinese skewers but the size of meat on the skewers got smaller than before recently. I THINK price is reasonably cheap compared to other places. Must try is their Xinjiang Style Spicy Chicken! Small size can serve up to 3-4 people and you must add noodles. It's potion is very big for its price and it's delicious! Noodles are like korean rice cake. Chewy and tasty. Dip the noodle in the sauce to eat it! Staff barely speak English and serving is slow when it gets busy. <br/>Some of staff are nice and some of them are not. I don't really complain about it though. Water, cutlery and sauces can be easily found and self serviced. I tend to just bring them myself rather than asking the staff for them. Cant be bothered to wait.

Been to here a few times and enjoyed it everytime. Good value for money with great food that's just perfect for a boozy night out with friends. 600ml beers for $8 and barbequed food and great atmosphere.<br/><br/>If you come here, try their Xinjiang Style Chicken, it's really good and the portion is huge.<br/><br/>Only problem is that you have to get your own cutlery and can't split a bill...

Chicken skin and lamb skewers are always my go to before getting my favourite xingjian style chicken with the ramen. I do love this place but it does always seem so understaff and it's always hard to get anyone to take your order. The random deco and energetic atmosphere does make an interesting food experience that you definitely can't get anywhere else. A good interesting!

Affordable and great tasting food. In all honesty this is the place you'd want to go to after a late night out in the town. Every now and then there are live performances which helps keeps the atmosphere relaxing. All the food has the authentic taste of their origins and service is friendly.
Live To Eat
Famous for their Xinjiang chicken and skewers. The Xinjiang chicken is very huge in portion, the small is enough for at least 3 pax imo and u get the choose the spiciness. Large variety of skewers.

A go-to place for my friends and I, food is great and affordable with a lot of variety especially with the skewered stuff--from beef tongue and chicken heart to vegetarian options tofu and skewered garlic, mushroom, etc..plus they are open till late, convenient for late dinners after work, partying, or just during those spontaneous cravings in the late nights!

Not bad food. Love the bbq lamb there.<br/>However, service there is really Bad .<br/>Ordered takeaway and waited for 15 mins, when I went to pick up, they told me they made a mistake and ask me to wait for another 15 mins.<br/>No apologize and it really depressed me:(.

You should try this place out if you want a big feed with variety! With skewers from just 80c you can go wild with choices. Lamb, squid, chicken, fish..the list is endless. Personally, I thought the lamb skewers were the best! Service was great and it's opened till late so you can always drop by after a concert or game!

This is place is KNOWN for their XinJiang Style Chicken (literally it's called big plate of chicken in Chinese). I must warn you, the proportion is not for the faint-hearted. The SMALL size is enough for at least four people (in my opinion, maybe even five) and of course you have to add their hand-made ramen. This. Is. Their. Signature. Dish. Must try, must have, every time you come here. It is a little bit spicy, but you can ask them to make it mild :) <br/><br/>There's also a huge variety of BBQ skewers available. Everything is full of flavour and looks and smells delicious. Each skewer is so cheap you can order one of each to try if you want to be adventurous. I absolutely recommend the lamb, the lettuce and the mushroom! And deep fried buns with condensed milk. These are my must-haves each time I visit.<br/><br/>Almost forgot. For those night owls out there. Gogo Music is open til late every night. So if you get the munchies at night. Come try it! Definitely worth your while :)

Poor service but the food is good. Would recommend to come outside of rush hour<br/>.............................///////......................<br/><br/>

Come here if you want to get food poisoning, oily diabetes heart attack food and to A-bomb your poor poor toilet afterwards. Oh and also if you want a side of shit service and long wait times. 40 minutes! to cook some meat on a stick... The hygiene aint there, the guys cook the meat without gloves, raw meat mixed with cooked on the ground plastic boxes, stains and slime everywhere, cigarette filled air etc. Oh and that popular chicken/noodle slimey concoction is like 80% bones. Further the quality of the skewers, absolute rubbish, its like meat you chuck out, full of fat , chewy but in fact probably 10% meat ,the rest is grilled fat residue. Go across the road to Shaolin to get REAL meat. Disappointing, came twice, 2nd time we actually walked out because of that long wait.

Great place to hangout with loads of sides and skewers. Little bit disappointed with over cooked lamb skewers but overall, a nice experience.

This place is amazing. Food is great - they can go as SPICY as you want and as mild as you like. Service is good. Great place to come when you're craving more than Drive-Thru fastfood since they're open a little late in the night. Bubble teas are average. Will definitely return here again.

I wish i can out zero star rating. Food is ok but their customer service is just so shameful. Staff are so abrupt and don't know how to serve customers. Only good thing about this restaurant is that they are about the only char coal BBQ open late nite.
Jess
Yummm yummm yummm! Love their skewers, cucumber salad and deep fried bread with condensed milk! NOMNOM
The Incredible Edible
This place is open late and is a great place to meet friends or end up at the end of night.<br/><br/>The decor is random but creates a fun, chilled, party atmosphere - think they must have kept the place as is - with a cowboy western theme.<br/><br/>Our favourite food on the menu-50c lamb skewers half spicy half not, beef tongue skewers, bread ???? with condensed milk dip, Asian beer and bubble tea (not as good as down the road).

Been here quite a few times cos it's my friends' favourite place. We basically just get copious amount of lamb skewers and chicken bone (the ribs area) and Tsing Tao beer. They are always busy and even if you book, you will still have to wait but you will be at the front of the queue. Weird decoration with the western theme hmm... but very cool that sometimes they have live music :)<br/>Food wise, the lamb skewers are the bomb, the xinjiang style chicken is pretty good too and you should get the hand-made noodles with it (they called them ramen). It comes in a giant plate and you just have to look past the chilli oil it's bathed in and pick out the yummy chicken, capsicums and potatoes. For a balanced diet or not, you have to order the cucumber salad (more like pickled cucumber), and if you need add on the fried buns or sweet black rice porridge.<br/>P.S. Put your used skewers in the metal bucket on your table.
