Review Monsieur Madame - Mount Eden

Monsieur Madame Cafe & Restaurant is a great little spot in Mt Eden Village where I visit for breakfast. You have to try the croque-monsiieur and the breakfast du monsieur, both are awesome breakfast options. This is a very nice restaurant to go too, the food was definitely top self, every course was served in time warm and well seasoned. We were well looked after by such welcoming amd friendly staf. We will definitely be coming back and with company.

Cute little cafe with an outdoor terrace in the back. Good service. Lots of light. I had a tasty iced coffee and a pain au chocolat that they kindly heated up for me. Good spot for a coffee, tea or meal.

Absolutely lovely dinner! Waiter was attentive- food was amazing! We did a 5 course meal and every plate was a good portion! I’m unable to pick a favourite part of the meal as it was all so phenomenally good! Wine list was interesting and I really enjoyed the atmosphere- the music was present but not too loud which made conversation easy and dinner relaxing.

A really nice High Tea experience, with friendly and eager staff, some delicious food, and a lovely selection of teas. Throw in a nice location and you have the makings of a great day out - one that left us utterly stuffed, very much impressed, and wholeheartedly satisfied with our decision to give a French twist on an English tradition a go. We went in without any idea of what was to come, and very much enjoyed the process of discovery.

Victoria, a lovely, attentive and friendly waitress served us the 5 European courses. The food was well presented, good portion and tasted great. My friends and I are very adventurous lot, so we generally love to order different dishes. I will definitely come back again.

The best steak of 2022. Greeted by a lovely lady who had us seated and with drinks in no time, including a quick read of the menu. The steak was irresistible, cooked to perfection & juicy. Have already recommended this restaurant to several friends!

I personally have been to Monsieur Madame, once on a business-related event, and another one on a personal occasion with family. On both times, the staff members were kind and patient to our requests. The restaurant/café has a wonderful overall atmosphere. The interiors are nice and of good taste, and I have been on both lunch time and dinner. I especially enjoyed the mood lighting during dinner time. My recent visit is with my family and we tried their Five-Course European Dining experience which we had to book for. Our favourite out of the dinner was the sharing platter, the cheesy bread that came with the soup and lamb trio! They are very generous with the serving amount and we were very full at the end. Not a very big fan of the pate, but that is personal preference only. The person serving us was lovely. She was very knowledgeable with the menu and informed us right away when some food items were not available. She was very accommodating to our requests (Like taking photos, etc) as we were there for a birthday. The only thing they can possibly improve on is the timing of food as we felt we waited too long between courses and the availability of food presented on the menu. They have a wide range of food which we appreciate and food are well presented. Overall, our experience was good and we are considering returning to try their breakfast items. Monsieur Madame provided a great dinner! We had a 5-course meal voucher for two people and believe it was a great value for money. Our waiter was great and the food was incredible. We purchased a drink each separately which took us through the duration of our meal. The voucher was off Grab One. We were provided with a soup each and charcuterie board to share and then got to choose our own entree, main and dessert from the menu. We were both full by the end. I would highly recommend this voucher especially for a date night!

We had the 5 course European dining experience and it was amazing! Great portion sizes, incredible food and brilliant service. I think I had the best tiramasu that I have ever had. We highly enjoyed this meal and would definitely recommend.

Came here for a high tea (a special deal by the cafe) which was enjoyable. We were given a generous portion of food for $45 with tea and coffee. The savoury goods were very tasty and the carrot cake was our favourite. The staff were friendly and professional.

My husband and I came here for the five course dinner and we are impressed with the lovely service. The amazing delicious cuisine and the music creates an authentic french atmosphere. If you love seafood you have to order the mussles entrée! Can't recommend their food enough! We can't wait to come back 😊

I purchased the 5 course meal experience on Grabone, our table was not prepped despite a reservation, no seat or drinks were offered while we waited for our table so we had to stand around, we felt rushed, one of the waiters did not know the menu or wine selection, the lamb was over salted, meals were average, the crème brulee was hot with a soft instead of a hard caramel layer, the fondant was overcooked with no molten center. Honestly did not enjoy the experience and probably will not go back.

I bought the Grabone Three-Course Experience for Two People incl. House Beer or Wine voucher for Monsieur Madame for my wife and myself for a special occasion. <br/><br/>On Tuesday I booked a table for 2 for Saturday 6pm. When we showed up they could not find the booking but asked if we would like to be seated out the back (which is outside). They said it is heated so we said OK. There was 2 little heaters there. <br/><br/>We were given the menu from the lead waitress (not experienced) but she was training another waitress too. We ordered or meal 10 minutes later. The entrée was Tiger Prawns and for my wife it was Chicken liver pate. We also added chips to share between us.<br/><br/>It was cold outside and it was an hour before the entrée came out. But only the prawns and chips came out. I asked about the liver and was told by the new waitress yes it is coming. So my wife and I started on the chips but I left the prawns as I wanted to eat my entrée with my wife. Ten minutes when we finished the chips and the new waitress came out for another customer. After she had finished with that customer I asked about the Chicken liver pate. She said that she would ask the kitchen. After fifteen minutes we gave up and decided to leave the restaurant. I hadn’t touched my prawns. <br/><br/>When going to the front counter we passed the new waitress and she asked if everything was alright. Obviously she has forgot to ask about the Chicken liver pate. <br/><br/>We talked to the head waiter about our problems and we took back our voucher. Then he suggested that we book the next time during the week as the weekend is always busy.<br/><br/>Things to note:<br/>• This is the first time we HAVE ever walked out of a restaurant. My wife (being in the trade)and she is very patient and forgiving when we go out for dinner.<br/>• There was people inside that arrive after us and was served before us.<br/>• There was another couple next to us with a voucher and they did not get any meal, so they walked out too. It was like if you a voucher you were treated as second class. <br/>

Disappointed tonight, booked in, nice setting, friendly staff, orders taken, drinks slow to come out, left after waiting over an hour for entrees that they hadn't even started

Here my honest review. Came with a first table discount.<br/><br/>Service: waitress was new. As in first day working kind of new. Very friendly and tried her best. The service to be honest was very average but it's not her fault. It's the management's responsibility to train the staff.<br/><br/>Bruchetta: 3/10 nothing amazing. I could make this at home, so why dine out for it?<br/>Chicken liver pate: 5/10 this is apparently house made special? Tasted like supermarket stuff.<br/>Lamb: 6.5/10 there were 3 pieces. Bit over cooked.<br/>Beef cheek bourguignon: 2/10 seriously? How is this beef cheek bourguignon?? <br/><br/>The only french thing about this restaurant is the baguette.<br/>Looking forward to improvements.

AWFUL experience. Booked and paid for high tea in advance. Waited 1 hour for food - what is the point of booking?! Unfriendly staff & dirty dishes stacked up in kitchen which are visible and unpleasant. Need better staff training and seriously need more wait staff and kitchen staff.

This place is so cute, and has a warm cosy atmosphere. The service was great and the food was delicious. We ordered the Margarita pizza, chips, coffee and the chocolate coffee cake. Everything tasted amazing! Will be going back for sure.

Food was absolutely delicious and so filling. Me and two friends came here for a French experience and enjoyed it so much. Seafood was cooked perfectly, steak was very tender, desert topped the night off very well. Also, service was great. Very polite. Would definitely return.

Really nice place, look forward to going back again

It was disappointing, how could a cafe that was quiet on a Friday evening get it so wrong on absolutely everything we ordered. First the coffee was awful, really bad I ordered a coconut latte the coffee was bitter and it tasted like cleaning solution it was the same for my dads flat white disgusting. We ordered some type of chicken dish in a creamy white sauce beurre Blanc maybe, the chicken was dry, At least they did not split the sauce. We also ordered chips they were very stingy with the dipping sauce plus there was no tomato sauce to go with the chips not to mention they over cooked and over salted.

Paid $55 for a high tea for two, which was not too impressive. Service was amazing, but the “high tea” items were just cabinet food (big slices of cake and scones) cut in half. Plus my poor gran was cold as the back door was opened every few minutes when the staff had to go out to their storeroom. Not a huge area for seating, and ambience ruined a bit by the smoothie blender. Lastly the “loose leaf tea” was a teabag.<br/>However breakfast meals and cabinet food looked great, and we had an attentive waiter!

We booked days ahead. When we got there our name was not in the bookings book. Rather than place us in the restaurant area we were placed in the courtyard with a single mounted wall heater. It was freezing. We were curious to know why you would have a reservations system but then not follow it. The sliding door to our area was often left open as staff came out into the arctic cold, so the indoor patrons were constantly up off their seats to close the door, which has quite a bit of weight in it. We persisted because we wanted to do our bit for local businesses and it was our second post-covid restaurant outing. Our hope was in the food, the menu.The pizza was ordinary, basic and unexciting. Having had pizza in the Mt Eden area many times I was hoping for something on a par. Sadly, not. The base was ordinary and the tomato paste was spicy, the cheese ordinary, honestly you could get a better one at the local Countdown. The green lip mussels were okay, but didn't raise a wow or super response. Our last hope was dessert, yes, that would lift the evening and reward us for our fortitude. When we were given the dessert menu, two of the desserts were unavailable, one being the one we wanted. Lastly, on coming into the main warm section, there were empty tables. I mean, they had two tables of patrons who were left in the cold, who could have been invited through. What a lost opportunity to be a good host. We wish the cafe well, but we will never be back. That's what comes of being spoiled for choice.

Went here for desserts after 2months lockdown period got one chocolate cake and lemon meringue. Taste really nice and yummy. Recommended for desserts here

Fabulous food & service - entree ordered were the mussels in wine - so fresh and incredibly tasty also a very generous portion - both of us enjoyed this entree despite ordering two. Our dinner was divine, lamb was tender & succulent. The Steak was perfectly cooked and the veges were beautifully cooked and presented. Dessert was as good as recommended by other customers in the restaurant and very enjoyable. Highly recommend this gorgeous little restaurant with cosy outdoor dining if you’d prefer alfresco!

I was craving some French style food so we came here for breakfast. Coffee was good, but not outstanding. Cute latte art on the mohcha!<br/>We ordered 2 dishes, the Croque Madame was pretty good - would be better with lore bechamel sauce to make the dish taste richer.<br/>The Breakfast du Madame was very disappointing, the components of the dish were all very separate. It may have all tied together with some slices of crusty bread. The honey cured smoked salmon was the most disappointing part, it tasted a bit old and looked suspiciously like store bought packaged smoked salmon.<br/>I would stay away from the smoked salmon, next time!

My first time ordering from here and the pasta was amazing! I did a phone order for collection and it was ready on time. They were happy to sub the mushroom for spinach. <br/><br/>The sauce was so creamy and tasty, chicken cooked perfectly and the pasta was cooked perfect too.<br/><br/>My friend had the chicken pizza and said it was so delicious.<br/><br/>I can't wait to come back!

It is unfortunate that I had to erase the place out from my future visit list. I understand the weather is still like hot summer so the doors have to be opened but it was unbearable with the flies. There are different sizes of flies from real tiny ones and the big ones flying around (more than 10 around my table) and some of tiny ones ended up going into my drink which made me couldn't finish them. I could imagine it will me my food if I order food, not just drink. The first impression is alway important and the first impression of the place wasn't good enough to come back for next time 😫

We went there on Friday. We had escargots and chicken pate to start. The escargots appeared bitter to my taste. The chicken pate is okay. We then had confit duck and steak for our main, the steak was beautifully cooked, soft and tender! The waiter was attentive and he interacted well with everyone so service was on point! Might be back again :)

First of all, the service was perfect. We were taken care of and the waitress was really really nice and attended to all our needs. We were happy with the food, it was so good. Would definitely recommend this place for people that are feeling european food.

Waited about 35 mins for food, when only 3 tables the service was very poor, the waitress was rude coffee was burnt never go here

The food went down hill as our meal went on. The entrees were great, arancini and chicken. Then the mains were ok. I had gnocchi which had no gorgonzola flavour or walnuts. The trio of lamb was tiny for price. Then the desserts were terrible. Took over 45 mins for reheated rubbish. The fondant was dry and had ni runny centre and the creme brulee was watery and cold. The waitress was friendly and helpful but was servicing the whole place herself so was slow and struggled to keep up. Wont return.

From the moment we walked in, the french music and the friendly waitress, we knew this restaurant would be good. The food was superb. Entrees were tiger king prawns and for me, homemade chicken liver pate with french bread, mains were lamb on stacked potatoes and for me, beef cheek bourguignon with roasted potatoes and mushrooms and for dessert a shared dish of profiteroles in chocolate sauce. All the dishes were very tasty - superb. Would thoroughly recommend this restaurant in the Mt. Eden Village and we will return!

Having been told it was a 30 minute wait we ended up waiting 90 minutes for food that was very poor when it finally arrived. There are much better French cafe / restaurants in Auckland. For any visitors... please try somewhere else this is too embarrassing....

Very well cooked food lots of choice Indian chef but French inspired menu seemed to work!

Despite booking weeks in advance and only 4 other tables being used we were seated by the toilets. My partner could smell urine throughout his meal. Had i known this at the time i would have insisted we moved to one of the many available tables. Absolutely disgusting. Seafood platter was overcooked. Lamb was good. Fish also was overcooked. Dessert was average. Staff were friendly enough. Won't be returning.

Had a wonderful time in Monsieur Madame.<br/>The whole setting of the place was simple but comfortable, the air flow of the restaurant is really good, can feel the nice gentle breeze.<br/>The waiter, although super busy, was friendly and attentive, always made sure he was on top of every table's order and that every dish is served in time.<br/>Food was amazing, to be honest I did not expect to be this good before I went. But the food was not just look good on the plate, definitely delicious as well! The seasoning was not overly salty, and can tell that all ingredients were very fresh. The portion were good as well.<br/>Will definitely come back again.

Went at a quiet early time for dinner, the waiter was attentive and friendly. The meals came out in good time between courses. Beautiful presentation and delicious house made food. The salad dressing, walnuts, breads on the platters. The iced drinks looked amazing. Would recommend the lamb. Great sized portions allowing us to taste more of the menu. Unique creme brûlée. This place is actually sooo Divine from the food to the ambiance and the beautiful French waiter. Couldn’t recommend this place enough. The warm decor and soft French music playing as we devoured our beautiful meals such a dream. Definitely the next big spot.

firstly, no one speaks French, drinks arrived in 2 mn, great, but then we waited 45mn for a boring cheese platter, after 30mn i have asked the waiter and he said sorry the kitchen is small and we are busy !! they had 3 tables at the time !! the Emmental cheese on it had marks from the grater used for another purpose i guess ! the camembert was tasteless, the blue fourme d ambert was nice, the other hard cheese was kind of ok, grapes on it were old. As soon they put the platter i asked the waitress to send the main asap. they arrived after 35mn ! ok the lamb trio was nice, presentation ok, well cooked lamb, tasty only the potatoes had a need for extra salt. will never comeback and they will not be on my recommendation list for best French restaurant

The staff named Phan was nice and accomodating, its puts a smile on your face when you see your coffee. I love it! It feels like i dont want to drink my coffee and just take photo and share it to friends

We had an early dinner here and really enjoyed our experience. Pam was our waitress. She was delightful and really friendly. The food was excellent. I had the Beef Cheeks. Delicious. The entrees and dessert all worthy of recommendation. Well done to the young Head Chef owner. We wish you all the best with your business.

Nice atmosphere and food, server was very attentive and friendly. She kept filling up our water glasses, and came to make sure our food was up to standard which it was. The courgette was very good, especially the sauce which reminded me of an actual spaghetti dish and the pumpkin balls were devine. Will definitely come back again, such a wonderful cafe to have in the heart of Mt Eden.

Went with a friend. The waiters got our dishes wrong twice. Not attentive as the girls were just chatting away. Lamb Trio was delicious. Duck confit leg and the liver pate were a waste of money. Won’t come back again.

Very friendly, fast and efficient staff. French food is good and well served (but it's impossible to beat my mum on the boeuf bourguignon!) The place has a lovely atmosphere is spot clean! I tried the gorgonzola gnocchis which were really nice. The tarte tatin was nice and tasty, served with vanilla ice cream. Loved my coffee at the end... Absolutely fabulous!<br/>I will come back surely this week end!

Sampled the Eggs benedict with salmon at Brunch. Good atmosphere and service was efficient and with genuine smiles and conversation. Enjoyed the experience so we decided to return for Dinner and were not disappointed. The Lamb trio tasty and just right. Will certainly return when next in Auckland.

My husband and I waited for one hour for our meals to come out. The chips also took one hour to make. Food was not disappointing but wasn’t great either, probably because they were made in a rush as apparently there was only one chef. We did get a discount for the wait which we appreciated, and most staffs were nice and felt really apologetic. But don’t think I’ll be coming back again.

Had dinner here and had a great time, the seafood platter was amazing value for money with some of the best clams I have had in a while. We also had the lamb trio, beef bourguignon and the duck. The seasoning was on point and everything was cooked perfectly. Only downside was that the portion sizes were too big, however this isn't an issue if you skip the starters and go straight to mains. We will definitely be back.

Staff was friendy and polite. The fluffy was cute, my daughter like it. However, we waited 50mins for the food. If you want to test your patience, it will be a good place.

Had a great atmosphere and the food was delicious, staff were very friendly. They did give us poached when we asked for scrambled eggs on one of the dishes. They did offer to correct it but we were happy with the perfectly poached eggs. Iced mocha was nice, but definitely more of a Frappuccino than an iced coffee.

Great service. Unlike most cafes in Auckland, all-day breakfast really does mean all day here! We had a beautiful plate of scrambled eggs and a Croque Madame at 4pm, and staff went out of their way to check on us. Will definitely be visiting again.

Awesome French food and pastries! Lovely creamy coffee, even my de-caff tasted great! I had a courgetti and it was delicious! Courgette disguised as spaghetti! My husband had a croque Madame and it was so so good! Highly recommend it!

Love this place. One of my favorite places in the area to get my everyday coffee. Love talking to the staff, they are very friendly too. I get to see some of the best looking coffee I have tried!!

Disappointed. Food took a long time to arrive and staff provided dirty cups with lip and coffee stains inside. When requesting a new cup for the second time staff told me that coffee stains in a coffee cup was normal because that was what they were used for. Shocking response to request for clean serve ware. Will not be returning.

I really wanted to like this place... Ambiance is lovely, menu looks great. Food was actually quite nice. Unfortunately the dirty cups was an issue. We ordered tea to go with our breakfast and unfortunately our mugs were dirty. It had that light coffee ring along the top after you rinse a coffee cup. So it could be wiped away with a sponge easily. The waitress kindly took our cups away to give us new ones and that wasn't an issue at all. The issue began when she returned to give us one clean cup but one dirty cup again. When we told the waitress again that one cup was dirty, she took it away for the second time only to give us another dirty cup. So again we told her the cup was dirty. This time she was a bit frustrated and tried to tell us it was a stain... It wasn't a stain...<br/>

Food was tasty and staff were polite and really trying their best. They seem to be struggling as a new-ish cafe, though. The staff all seemed really stressed! Our coffees arrived when we had almost finished our meals sadly. People’s takeaway orders seemed to be taking ages and we overheard a few other tables near us having problems of incorrect orders etc. Just seemed like they were having lots of issues and mistakes. Might try it again in a couple of months.

Astonishing how good simple dishes can be when the best and freshest ingredients are used. The waitress was obviously new to the job but very sweet and attentive. The coffee is truly excellent. <br/>The decor and ambience urbane. We will be back.

After more than a month, one would expect teething issues to be sorted out. Alas, this is not the case. <br/>Our greeting was pleasant enough, but a 15 minute wait for coffee, only to be served a coffee that was meant for a table that arrived after us, which was then rudely snatched from me as I took it back.<br/>I appreciate you removed the coffees from the bill, but this doesn’t compensate for being served scrambled eggs instead of poached and then receiving my correct order after the rest of the table had finished. <br/>The meals were average as was the coffee. The most exciting thing served to us was the side salad which had a pleasant dressing. <br/>

Great food and wonderful coffee. Wide menu providing options for all diets, and they allowed me to swap salmon for bacon without a problem.  Can't wait to return to try the French pastries that were calling me from the counter top.

Great food. There were a few teething issues of being a new cafe and also not having enough staff rostered on. This meant that one of our drinks arrived after we’d finished our meals and we didn’t receive a side we’d ordered. Those two things aside, the staff themselves were lovely and very stressed. The food tasted absolutely great! Can’t wait to go back.

Had a wonderful lunch here with a group of friends. Outdoor seating was comfortable and enough room for 7. We all ordered different things and every dish was great. Coffee was also very good. The service was friendly and attentive. We'll be back!

We have just had our third visit to this new cafe/restaurant near us in Mt Eden. The menu has the standard but with a some differences making the food is especially tasty. We have not tried the pastries yet but they looked delicious. Best coffee on the street! There are footpath tables as well as an outdoor seating area. They are opening for dinner soon so are looking forward to that.
