Review Pronto - Mount Maunganui

Went to try their burger challenge that they have going at the moment. Two of their double BBQ and bacon burgers with chips. We both failed and cost $50 each. You have to complete all the food in 4min30sec, and you get it free. The $50 is definitely worth the food. Cooked very well was delicious

This place is amazing. So many unique and delicious flavours that are typically hard to find in ice cream. I will absolutely be back next time I visit the mount. The staff was really friendly.

Had a very nice breakfast here. The waffle was amazing. The green bowl was OK but left me a bit hungry. Might just be my appetite though! Very nice and accommodating staff. It was very busy and they stayed professional and welcoming and the food came out quickly and tasted great.

Delicious food with good ambiance. Burgers are above average in size, also lots of varieties. We can sit both inside and outside, and that are neat and clean.

Delicious burgers! Portion size was massive, comes with a small but perfect portion of fries..the burger is big enough you wouldnt need to order a xtra bowl of fries.

Beef burgers (cheese and mushroom) are delish. Highly recommend! The coffee is pretty good too (too many places have great presentation but too bitter). These guys are great! The staff were very patient and friendly! A must try and will visit when next in the Mount.

Had the Calamari Salad and it was amazing. Highly recommended. Great view of the beach too.

Excellent. Don’t miss the Big Breakfast followed by a white chocolate 🍫 coffee. Perfect for king’s Breakfast with the perfect views :)

Just had one of the best gastro surprises I’ve had in a long time! Amazing cocktail and frozen rose, enjoyed with garlic and herb mussels... heaven! Capped off with one of the best burgers I’ve ever had. 5 different burgers and all a 10/10! Will be back for sure!

This place had the cutest coffee art! We were totally surprised when we ordered a coffee there. It is also right on the waterfront by the mount - so the perfect place to come for a nice coffee.

Returned after a few years away with some mates, burgers were ok but seems the vibe has changed and the burgers a touch more mainstream. Standard cheeseburger was a touch over cooked and bland but the sides and service were amazing... chicken balls tasty with the mayo.

Best Burger in town.
Fresh Food, cooked from Scratch with local ingredients.
Beer... Burger... Beautiful Beach.
Good location to enjoy in after beach

Came here after my mate highly recommended the burgers. Unfortunately, i think i just made a bad burger choice by opting for the "Beef Parmigana" Burger of the Day.

The patty was more like meatball mince and was far too thick for the bread. I'm not too fussy when it comes to food but i really did not enjoy it at all. The fries were really nice though.

I would say that my other 4 friends absolutely loved their burgers. The Chickpea one in particular got some good reviews.

Maybe next time i'll try something different.

Ordered Chicken Parmigiana burger and serving of onion rings. Burger was okay. I have had much better burgers elsewhere but it's not bad. Onion rings were crispy and perfectly battered. Probably one of the best I have had, even for a uninteresting dish that it is. The location is probably a steal right next to the waterside facing the ocean.

Mr pony back up in this bitch, other than being stared at by a family for 10 minutes straight (I don't blame them at all) the food was sexy, even though money ain't no issue the pricing wasn't bad. We ordered the chicken burgers with a dash of chippies and oh my where do I start, chicken was purrrrrrfectly moist burger overall was better yarns than my date and the chippies were on fleek. The serenity topped it off I definitely would take another tinder date there.

Pony xx

After a walk up the Mount we were definitely keen for a burger! Pronto was right across the road from the beach with the rest of the cafe strip. There were a few empty tables when we entered which quickly filled up. We decided to get takeaway and eat at the beach and went ahead and ordered quickly. Service at the counter was very friendly :) It was pretty slow being so busy, and half our party got their burgers first. One person suggested since we were already at a table that perfectly fit us that we might as well eat here instead of letting half the food get cold. No sooner had this been said before one of the staff asserted that we were not allowed to do this because we got takeway. We didn't find this particularly friendly or accommodating but dutifully watched our burgers cool down as we waited for the others. We ate our food under the trees by the beach which was a perfect spot for a gorgeous day. The burgers were decent, though I was unsure why quite so many options had blue cheese - it was a bit overpowering for me in my beef and mushroom burger. The burger could have also done with more relish to give it a bit of a foil for the strong blue cheese. My beef patty was quite crispy and yummy but a couple of my friends reported theirs were overcooked. The chicken options were a bit of let down - mostly because the boxes had been mislabelled causing the peri peri to be labelled as plain chicken. Even when the actual peri peri was tried, it was pretty weak flavoured - aint no nandos style. The mix-up was pretty frustrating. The scotch fillet was a very thin slice of meat but reportedly tasty. The bread used for the burgers was a pale turkish bread style bun which was ok. Overall a pretty good burger (and decent sized), but nothing to write home about. Still looking for a really good meal in the Tauranga area! Let me know your favourite.
Meet & Eat
Visited Pronto on the first day of summer.

We were super excited and planned to eat brunch, which eventually turned into cocktails and lunch.

Obviously winning with the atmosphere and the food was beyond yummy. Perfect for a bite at the beach but not if you are in a hurry. Service was super slow, yet friendly.

Atmosphere: 5

Food: 4.5

Price: 3.5

Service: 3

One-word: Beachy

Cute little cafe in the cutest small town ever! Loved the food. Very reasonably priced.
Once my training is over I will definitely come back to indulge in their hot chocolate!
Apart from that loved the mussels in creamy garlic sauce!

Love this place!! They make amazing burgers and their fries are excellent! The staff are so lovely and so are the owners. Definitely some of the best food in Tauranga :)

Had the burger of the day which is the pulled pork burger! Its was delicious. The seadfood chowder was so thick and creamy with heaps of seafood. Great service :)

The grown up (alcoholic) milkshakes are to die for! I had the banana, salted caramel, toffee vodka and rum milkshake which was delightfully sweet and creamy but not overly strong in alcohol flavor. The salted caramel and bourbon milkshake however did have more of a kick if that's what you are looking for. Also very tasty. The burgers were good but not as fantastic tasting as they sounded, they were decent sized but be aware they do not come with any sides eg. chips, those are extra. Do get the crispy pulled pork balls, these are really tasty and you won't regret it.

Highlights:

Cold coffee. 45 minute wait for 2 cold burgers. Man... this place. It's bad in every single way except location. So much so that if this place was anywhere else it would have shut down through lack of business. If it's location, location, location, then these guys are the absolute testament because the food is woefully bad, the service is so incredibly vague and half-arsed, and when trying to decide on a score for this review it only got this because of the view which is nothing short of splendid. The passing trade must keep this place afloat, it's the only logical explanation.

I need to point out it wasn't busy when we arrived. 4 tables, 2 or 3 people at each. That's nothing in this industry, and anywhere worth its salt could turn those tables in 30 minutes. Speaking of salt! That's all I remember. I had the chicken parmegiana burger. It was complete garbage. Salt and carbon from the blackened bun are my lasting memories and having to get 2 bottles of water because it was so so so damned salty.

There was also the distinct impression of the burger being made at two separate times. One might find this miraculous, like some hi-tech method of burger preparation had been discovered to get food out quicker but sadly no... why do I think this? Well half the burger was lukewarm, the other was cold. And the cheese, which I presume was meant to be melting quite luxuriously down the sides was nothing but a cold lattice of grill pan dregs... for which we waited 45 minutes.

I understand now why this place has free-wifi. You can pass a lot of time looking on Reddit and checking Zomato for places you should have gone while the teenagers in the back spend 35 minutes picking their noses and 10 minutes doing their job.

The 45 minute wait is something excusable when a place is cranking, or when it's gourmet food that requires prep (like I waited 60 minutes at Clooneys for their degustation platter), but guys, this is burgers and fries. What in the world is going on where a plate of food fit for a trough takes 45 minutes to arrive at your table? On the way out I looked into the kitchen and there were 4 people working back there. 4 chefs. That's 4 more than I ever thought possible in a place that can serve absolute crap while smiling at you.

The coffee was a complete waste of money, and time, and just think that somewhere a hopeful and ambitious coffee bush gave its children to come here, maybe thinking that they're on their way to a better life of freedom and opportunity. Instead they get manhandled and denigrated into some turgid cup of putrid crap. Bitty, grainy, tangy, lukewarm, weak, thin, everything a cup of coffee shouldn't be. Funny then, that you look over and see 4 perfectly good places to enjoy a coffee, all of which would probably know that if the coffee is at room temperature, that's a bad thing.

I don't get it. I try to understand places like this, try and decipher something where the methodology makes sense and I can't think of anything. Is there a reason to serve cold and bad food to someone's table, then charge them $40 for the experience? There really isn't. I gave up trying and concluded that this place is just tragically inept at making what might be one of the easiest things in the world to make.

Do yourself a favour - avoid this place at all possible costs. It sucks. The food sucks. The coffee sucks. The bathroom sucks. It all sucks except the view. And actually... 3 out of 10? these guys deserve no more than a 2.
Though I wish they had a slightly larger selection on the menu, everything I've ordered ended up being a success. In saying that, I've only ever gone here for burgers. Service is great, food is delicious and filling, and prices are good.

First thing I noticed was how friendly and welcoming the staff were! I had the scotch fillet burger with an egg. Steak wasn't chewy or over cooked-the blue cheese dressing and the caramelised onions were perfect together. Nice crispy Chippies too! It wasn't greasy at all and I didn't feel like a fat shit after eating it! I'll be back soon :)

Sensational! Seriously good choice for a good feed. Pulled pork was a stunner, but the scotch fillet was the winner on the day. Great service and better burgers. Cheers

Quiet a nice cafe. Staff were friendly enough. Expected variety of cafe food nothing startling. Coffee was OK.Found it hard to understand the waitress.

Excellent service, location and food. Can't fault it! We shared the pulled pork and pork belly burgers - both outstanding. Beer battered fries were crispy and hot. Perfect accompaniment to our Peroni's. Will be back!

Great relaxed place for delicious food and good service. Burger of the day is a fantastic deal. Would recommend as an ideal place for a beer and gourmet burger.

NO DOUBT, BEST CALAMARI SERVED HERE. Crispy, fresh, soft and not chewy is what you will get when you order calamari from this lovely restaurant. I like how this place is right next to the beach, the location makes it so nice to visit during summer. As for the burgers, they are most certainly delicious. They use my favourite type of bread for the burger buns - ciabatta buns.

Definitely try it out.

Great Burger. Just the Best Chicken burger I've had in loooong time

My friend and I went to Pronto last Thursday, I had a chicken burger w/ fries and my friend had fish and chips, the fish was beer bettered snapper ,my friend love it, and my chicken burger was amazing. To finalise we ordered two flat white ( best coffee I've had in a long time). The staff was so friendly that we felt so welcomed. Will be back soon!!!

I ordered the fish and chips and it was the worst fish and chips I have ever had. It cost $17 for a pathetic portion that barely fed my 3 year old and it took them almost 15 minutes to prepare even though there were only 2 customers in the restaurant. There was one small piece of fish which was not fresh and the chips can only be described as resembling spicy frozen oven chips. Never again!

My husband and I came to Pronto after buying a deal voucher. We had been to Pronto with a large group of friends a few months ago and absolutely loved it.

This last time we went though we were not impressed. We were told it was "table service" so were encouraged to choose a table so that the waitress could come to take our order - if we had known that what "table service" really means is that all the "take away" customers get served first we would have insisted on ordering then and there.

There was a really long delay between being told to take a seat and actually ordering, and we were highly frustrated to see takeaway customers who arrived after us getting their orders placed and their meals before us.

While the burgers were nice, we were disappointed with the size of the chips that accompanied it, and there was a little lack of TLC when putting the burger together - which was a huge surprise considering that we had been before and LOVED them the first time!!!

A friend and I had lunch here a week ago, we both had the chicken burger and by gosh we were not expecting such a massive burger! It was delicious, fresh and tasty, fantastic value for money. The staff were really friendly and warm and even though it was a miserable wet day, it was still a nice place to park up and watch the world blow past. Will return to try the pulled pork burger!

I've only eaten at Pronto for dinner but it's fast becoming my favourite fast & easy burger place in the Mount. The burgers are filling & delicious and the staff are always friendly.

My friend and I went for breakfast here this morning, and we were very disappointed to say the least. Their menu was very misleading, and the table service wasn't great either. The owner kindly let us leave without paying, as an apology for the meal. I feel that if you order Tomato Avovado Mushroom Bruschetta, you can expect something quite nice for $15. Instead we got quite plain bread, finely chopped tomatoes, plain rocket lettuce on the side with a single mushroom and quarter of an avo. Very tasteless. Coffee was awful :(

Everything about this place is good. Great food, especially the burgers, the pulled pork my favourite. Relaxed location with friendly professional owners and staff. Fairly new to the Mount, Pronto prices are excellent value and are worthy of five stars.

Truly outstanding! Wonderful service and the burgers... the burgers were just amazing!! My Scotch Fillet Steak Burger was amazing and my partner burger with smoked salmon was a completely delightful and surprising experience! It was our first time there but we sure come back (soon!!).
