Review Dixie Brown's - Mount Maunganui

Rocio Figueroa Salazar
How good! Still happy with the amazing breakfast we had at Eighteight Cafe. We had a hot chocolate and ordered from the menu. Pancakes and the chorizo omelette were fantastic, both of them were made at level of excellence. They have lovely cabinet food too (sweet and savory)k

We loved the atmosphere and they had great customer service. We had the vegan filo wrap and a blueberry& custard muffin and both was delicious. They also had an amazing cabinet selection, but unfortunately none of the items had prices on them which was very frustrating. We also hot the iced moch and coffee and both was delicious, not too sweet, but sweet enough. Overall it was a great experience

came here after watching the sunrise nearby zero wait food is pretty 4/5 i got a paleo chicken with salad (spinach, carrots) it was probably a bit more expensive than i wouldve preferred, but the other food on the menu were good self serve water for yourself

i love coming here for a little breakfast. the food is very tasty, the blueberry caramel is my favorite. and the service is super nice, i always have a good time catching up with the french waitress :)
Bev Bellas
Always great here! Beautiful cheese scones, pesto / feta muffins and sweet muffins! Great coffee thank you.

Superb cafe. Food is extremely well presented and tastes as good as it looks. Very good coffee. Large selection of menu items, as well as cabinet food. There is no table service but ordering at the counter is fast and efficient. I'm sure this would be a strong contender for best cafe at the mount.

Friendly staff, ok food and good coffee. Had a french toast that was ok but could be better if the bananas were also fried. Eggs bennie were good. Nice environment

Everyone loved the brunch and desserts so much that we had to come back again the next morning before leaving Tauranga. Really beautifully presented (and definitely instagram worthy). A really wide range of pantry desserts to choose from but it'll be good to go early as they really are snatched up fast! Drinks are amazing too, especially the hot chocolate and the smoothies.

Love this place , it's our go to when in Tauranga the Mount for food and coffee

After a diabolical customer service experience at Sidetrack Cafe near the mount we were recommended this place for breakfast and thank God because this was divine. The staff are wonderful the service perfect. We had a chat with the lovely Ann the baker at the cafe who nearly had us in tears. A serendipitous encounter which brightened up my morning, erased bad experiance and loved meeting people. That's before I bit into the bacon cream cheese with cranberry sauce brioche that is phenomenal. If you imagine taste of heaven this is it. What are you waiting for....GO!

What an amazing array of homemade baked goods! I chose the Hummingbird Cake - which was a HUGE cake and meant that the slices were also huge! Cream cheese icing covered in large coconut shreds garnished a lovely moist cake...which went so well with 2 x long blacks, also delicious! (Please don't tell anyone that this was my breakfast!) šŸ˜‰
Stuart Ross
The staff friendly and the snacks were outstanding. The chicken wraps were full of tender moist chicken. The carrot cake was something to dye for. I don't know if they do their own baking but it was very good.

A world class gastronomical experience. Been to Cafe 88 several times when we visit Mount Maunganui. My favourite for breakfast is the Granola. Lolly cake for morning tea. Lunch is the Paleo chicken salad. This cafe is out of this world and the best in New Zealand. We can't wait to be back.

We booked a table for 9 people on a very busy weekend at this restaurant. Unfortunately I made a mistake and booked the Taupo restaurant by mistake. Staff were so helpful and extremely accommodating given it was for our daughterā€™s birthday and they managed to fit us all in at a table.
The service was great - the food came out fast and was very tasty ā€“ the portion sizes managed to beat all of us and there were plenty of take out boxes arranged. šŸ˜Š

This restaurant was recommended to us by a local (we travelled from AKL) and I would definitely visit again. (making sure I booked the correct location this time).

Dixie brown at the mount is honestly amazing!! Loved the location, its literally across the street from the beach. And man on a hot saturday you need a place to get some good food.
Service is excellent! It was really packed today and the nice lady at the front took our number down and notified us when a table was available.
Portion sizes were beast level, it literally put us into a food coma for the next 2 hours.
We ordered the lamb, beef burgers and chilli chicken. The burgers were huge and beef patties tasted good but it wasnt overally amazing. I think the mushroom sauce was missing something I just couldnt figure it out what. But I'd come here again
Ken
Despite being busy the staff made every effort to accommodate our needs šŸ‘šŸ¼

The milkshakes here are crazy good and big enough to share. Get the peanut butter!

The venue overlooks the beach front and is beautiful on a nice day.

Food took a while to come out but thats fine of you have company. Breakfast menu has enough options was alright.

I want to do lunch or dinner here as that food looks better

My wife booked a table for a father's day dinner, amazing, best steak I have had in NZ, thanks
Critic
Ambience and service 10/10
Steak (Rump) and Rib (Baby back) Patter 9/10
Lambshank and Mash 8/10
Seafood Chowder 1/10 - giving a 1 because the lovely waitress waived it after she saw what we were served.
Been here several times but the seafood chowder was an epic fail. I had 3 sips and hubby had like 5. It was more of a salty watery soup with a table spoon of grits. Litterally one piece of celery and mussel lips not meat, and tiny shrimps, bits of mussel lips shred. I kept running my spoon to see if there any seafood. No seafood taste, I felt offended to be served a dish that badā˜¹ with no bread either. It was literally soup watered down with salty stock with last nights left over grits. Fish Face has the best chowder in town. Am sorry but am trying to say it was bad and please dont serve that to your customers who have eaten seafood chowders their entire lives. Thanks. I do recommend this place but I just had a crappy experience. Highly recommend the Steak and Rib and their 10% discount on breakfast.

June 2019.Breakfast for 3 people.Ā Corn cake breakfast stack - nice enough, but nothing to write home about, definitely could use more corn in them ! Kiwi Farmhouse Breakfast was pleasant, on the small portion size but still okay for the money paid.Ā Smoked Salmon Bagel with a side of Bacon - nice, would order again.Ā Flat white and Latte both burnt coffee - HOWEVER - waitress absolutely 100% happy to replace, so they get 1/2 a star for that alone.
Ngaire Fifield
Excellent service and food when we as a family ate here. Staff went above thir call fo daty to please us all.Ā
So pleased we tried this place for the first time as it will not be our last visit even though we do not live in the area.
Stacey-Jae Robinson
Delicious Pork Belly! Service was outstanding and prompt without any long waiting time for our meals. We arrived just before 1500 and had an awesome outside table which was perfect for the hot weather that day.
Being a long weekend it was busy but not too busy for us to find a table.
Would definitely return and recommend to others. Also kid friendly and was well enjoyed by 10 year old.
Michelle Li
Excellent customer service, staff very friendly. Food was great. EXTREMELY GENEROUS PORTIONS. I ordered the Omelette which covered half of my plate! Couldnā€™t even eat my bread. Well worth trying! And you even get great views. Very good coffee too.
Logan Waters
Polite staff. Lovely atmosphere. Music was perfect volume lol made it a back ground music not in your face. Steak was beautiful. Along with the baileys triple chocolate from the cabinet was solid. Seriously good food good drinks. Love this place. Clean tidy place. More then happily come back here again.

Great location on the beachfront. Friendly and attentive staff. Kid friendly with good menu. Enjoyed an outstanding pizza and delicious Belgian waffle.

Looking for a breakfast spot at the mount can be fazing with all the specials. We settled on breakfast as they had the 9.90 breakfast specials.
Wait staff friendly and fast to take our orders.
I had the mince on toast which was hearty. My friends had the Belgium waffle and big kiwi breakfast. They also do a selection of desserts which looked decadent. Will be back to try them.
Nishij Nimmagadda
Been here twice now, the chicken pasta is delicious - sooo creamy and so is the pork belly šŸ‘ŒšŸ» but didn't like the mango smoothie. The place has a beautiful view which also adds to the experience :)
John Cran
terrible service, a don't care attitude, had to order what we wanted ourselves from the bar, also took an hr too get food and two drinks. Other people around us were also complaining, 4 people simply just got up and left before being served. Two prime front tables were reserved in the best location of the outdoor area and no one came and used them.
Mun Clair
Yum food and beautiful views!

The buffalo skins here are amazing!! I had the seafood chowder - it was a nice light option. Didn't leave me feeling sick like some others I've tried have. The chicken pasta was not the best I've had but it was still enjoyable.

Would definitely come here again
Wendy Roskruge
Really disappointed, what has happened.
Made a dinner booking. When we turned up the reservation was not on the list. They did fit us in.
It took 55 minutes for the food to arrive. The waitress was very apologetic.
Never order the Dixie or the Tuscan chicken burger.
Burgers just warm, floppy hardly toasted buns.A few mixed salad leaves ,tomato and raw onion.
Dixie burger patty unpleasant flavour under cooked and not a good texture, mushroom sauce, thick paste with lumps.
Sent dish back, the replacement just as bad plus they forgot to put the fries and onion rings on.
Tuscan burger, chicken over cooked , dry and luke warm.
Prime rib, steak cooked well, but baked potato not cooked through.
Noodle dish very nice.
We were still charged for the meals , person taking payment thou apologetic still expected the full payment.

Dixie Brown we won't be back.
Sonam Naidoo
Came for lunch! Just beautiful! Had the ribs and steak, cooked to perfection. Full of flavour, onion rings are my favs! Throughly enjoyed and the view is just gorgeous.

Had an excellent meal here on a wet & cold Friday night. It's a mix of bistro/cafe/restaurant with a wide selection of food & wine available. Steaks, pizza, fish, lamb etc. Also breakfast & lunch offerings.
There were a number of tables with families & the menu caters well for children with their own menu.
My fillet steak was cooked perfectly med/rare & my partner's lamb shank just fell off the bone it was so tender. The veg sides were cooked al dente just as we like.
The only hiccup was the sauce for the steak was not served & had to be asked for, but the waitress very apologetic & throughout was always very polite & friendly.

Good location, food n service. I had garlic bread n pizza which was warm n fresh. Great for afternoon meetings. Would like to go again soon.

Went here on a Sunday morning with a couple friends. The cafe is really nice, open and decorated nicely.

The service was ok, we had our orders taken after a little bit, and meal checked but other than that we were never asked if we would like more drinks during our meal or had our water topped up etc. They also were delivering wrong food to wrong tables which was a bit annoying.

Food was amazing! I had the blueberry pancakes, my friend had the corn stack and my other friend had the farm house breakfast. Everything was really tasty and well cooked.

Would come here again for lunch or dinner to try the rest of the menu out!!

Dixie Browns is one of my partner and I's go to restaurants when visiting Tauranga.
Ā We once arrived at 9.30pm at night as we were travelling through Ā and the staff weren't fussed to let us stay for a meal and did not rush us at all.Ā
The food is always fresh and the staff are always upbeat, I love the beachy vibe as of course you can see the beach from the restaurant.Ā
Lovely restaurant and lovely staff.

I am incredibly disappointed!!!!! We came to have an early dinner to celebrate the arrival of our new born baby and we end up receiving a horrible service and average $30 Fish & Chips. Thank you very much wait staff for taking my husband platte while I was half way to finish my meal; and for asking me twice if they could take my platte again before I had the opportunity to finish my meal. Funny facts: they were not busy at all; the same wait staff took over than 10 minutes to take our order; when booking a table, manager said we would have to leave the table by 7pm as they had other reservations and I agreed as we would arrive at 4.30pm, so no excuse for rushing; afterwads manager made us feel it was our fault the waiting staff ask for the plattes and gave us a lecture on how positioning clutteries on finishing meals. I was not impressed! Sorry guys... there are no excuse for bad servicing

This place is busy for breakfast, lunch and dinner so reservation is recommended. It's popular because of the good selection of food and service is friendly. For dinner, the steak is really good, served with onion rings, vegetables and a choice of fries or baked potatoes. The dessert cabinet has a lot of pretty cheesecake and tarts. We chose the triple chocolate cheesecake and peanut butter cheesecake. So filling though, good to share.

Early dinner at DB's with my 3 year old tonight , appreciated the crayons and colouring page to keep her entertained , it was very busy but they found a seat for us but informed us we needed to be done in an hour and a half , which was plenty of time - we ordered a seafood chowder which was on the table in 5-10 mins , I really enjoyed it - had a nice flavour exactly what you expect , generous portion , I wish it had a few
More chunks of seafood and a piece of crusty bread to go with it would have been nice but still it was nice I'd order it again. 5-10 mins later our main came out - fillet steak with mushroom sauce and baked potato instead of chips - ordered
It well done and it was. The mushroom sauce was nice , it came with a side of cauli broc and carrot with a cheesy sauce, the flavour was nice but the sauce consistency was like water? They need to thicken it up so it sticks to the vege a bit more. The baked potato was bloody delicious. Unsure if you can get that as a side but I will definitely try next time I come, service was good - restaurant was well presented. Is the second time I've eaten at DB's and would not hesitate to dine here again.

Went for there for breakfast. Very clean environment and good service :) We ordered bagel with smoked salmon, cream cheese and eggs. Very yummy ~ The corn cakes with avocado, poached eggs and bacon were very special too :)

Also had dessert there during teatime. The banoffee tart was very good. Love the texture but its abit sweet. Tim tam cheesecake was good

Will definitely recommend to go there for breakfast :)

Went here for breakfast. Very clean and tidy new looking restaurant. Wasnt very busy. Staff were friendly and welcoming. My partner and I both got omelettes, with a side of bacon, was quite nice nothing flash though. I would probably go back here for dinner

Located right at the foot of Mt. Maunganui, such a lovely place that cannot be missed. Cozy place with friendly staff, good pricing too. Ordered a gourmet burger and a craft beer for less than $29. Really love it.

Ate here about a month ago. Definitely not the worst place I've been to in town but not the best. I came here with my family who all got steaks. The steaks were tough and not very tasty. I had a pizza. the pizza crust and cheese was good, but the chicken and pizza sauce were both obviously prepackaged. Not impressed with that. The service was good though and so is the atmosphere. For the price, it seemed fair. I'd go back but it's not high on the list.

Tried Dixie's for breakfast - basically overlooked poached eggs, undercooked tomatoes, okay toast and bacon. The coffee was and service was okay. So basically an average experience and we won't be back.

We came here for lunch as it has been recommended by people we know so we were expecting it to be good. However, we didn't have a great experience and found it to be a bit disappointing.

We sat outside after being greeted at the entrance and were given the menu. After 15mins no one came to our table to our table to check up on us and to get our order. The cafe wasn't busy either and we were hungry so after waiting a few more minutes, we got fed up and my partner got up to order at the bar as we couldn't wait any longer.

I got the fish with rice and he got a big breakfast. We waited for our food but it was disappointing that no one also came to give us water. I had to try a few times to get someone's attention so we could get glasses and water.

Our food came and they looked good. My fish was cooked well and the rice was nice. A few minutes later, staff came back to give us free basket of chips and he said he got my order wrong. They didn't get my order wrong as I wanted the rice with the fish instead of chips so maybe it was for the service. It was a nice gesture nonetheless.

Overall, the food was okay. The service needs to be better though. We were expecting good things and we were let down by the whole experience.

I've been to Dixie Browns in Taupo too and the food is standard/average, nothing really stood out or wowed me.Ā

Despite this, I enjoy the wide variety of dishes on the menu, the desert cabinets always look so tempting and both locations are lovely, sitting right on the lake/beach front with water views.

Reasonable choice if your around the area, due to having such a variety of options! They usually have cheap breakfast specials too.

I love Dixie Browns! Iā€™ve been here a few times now! Once for dinner, and too many times for desserts and milkshakes!

The first time I came here was for a dinner. It was a while ago now, but all I remember is that I had a huge steak! I loved the fact that you could choose your seasoning of a herb rub or a BBQ basted. It was also served with potato hash, vegetables and onion rings! It was definitely a hearty meal!

The thing I love the most about this place is their dessert cabinet! Itā€™s not everyday that you see a restaurant with a turning display cabinet filled with delectable desserts! I could just stand there for hours, watching all the different desserts pass by by my eyes. They range from meringue pies to tiramisus, and much more! Iā€™ve only tried one dessert from their cabinet, as I always go for their menu desserts!

For dessert Iā€™ve had:

-The cookies and cream cheesecake (from their dessert cabinet): After my dinner here I was so full! However, I have a major sweet tooth so I just couldnā€™t resist. Their cookies and cream cheesecake was served a cute little jar, with layers of cookie crumbs, and chocolate cheesecake. It was nice, but I felt so sick from eating so much, that I didnā€™t really enjoy it.

-Warm chocolate mud: This has to be my all time favourite! I always love a warm moist chocolate cake, and this one definitely hits the spot! Served alongside some vanilla ice cream and cream, it is a match made in heaven! The rich chocolatey cake pairs perfectly with the cold ice cream to balance out the flavours! Iā€™ve had this dessert a few too many times now!

-Beligan waffles: I had these once before, and all I remember was that it was one huge waffle! It was nice, but not my favourite. However, if youā€™re a waffle lover, then you will love thisĀ

-Affagato: I tried a bit of my mumā€™s because I just couldnā€™t resist! The presentation of this dessert was pure indulgence, and it tasted even better!

Last but not least, their double thick milkshakes. These have to be pretty close to the chocolate mud, as one of my favourites. When the menu says double thick milkshakes, it really does mean DOUBLE THICK milkshakes. The first time I tried one, I found it so hard to suck through the straw, but this was mainly because it was the banana choc chip flavor, so the chocolate chips blocked up the straw. You could say Iā€™ve had a few too many thick shakes from here now. The flavours Iā€™ve tried include:

Vanilla and coconut: Nice and refreshing, especially if you donā€™t like rich flavours, and want something more subtle, but still delicious! I love the coconut!

Strawberry: Refreshing fruity flavour! But not so much fresh strawberries, more like the syrup.

Caramel fudge: Sweet and indulgent! Almost reminds me of hokey pokey! It came with a piece of caramel fudge on top too!

Lime: Itā€™s the typical lime flavor you can get from dairyā€™s, which is great if thatā€™s what you like. Its nice, but I prefer the other different flavours.

Banana choc chip: This has to be my ultimate favourite! Iā€™ve had it a few too many times now, but itā€™s just so good! The choc chips blended into the milkshake just adds some texture to it. I love sucking them through the straw! However, itā€™s a bit hard to finish when thereā€™s no more liquid left, and only chocolate chips at the bottom.

Overall, I love this place. Especially their desserts. Although there were times where I had to wait a bit too long for my thick shakes to takeaway, the flavours made up for it! Iā€™m lucky to have this restaurant in Tauranga. I also found out thereā€™s one in Taupo, so I went there for dessert whilst I was staying there one day.

Came here for brunch a few weeks and found that their brunch offerings were just a bit average for the price. We ordered bacon and eggs on toast, an omelette, museli and a smoothie.

While the eggs are well executed, the bacon was a bit tough and chewy. The omelette was more of a frittata and we found it to be a bit dry - is worth noting that the portion size was quite generous though.

My favorites were the museli (the stewed apples were a very nice component) and the smoothie which was very fresh.

Over all I enjoyed my experience eating at Dixie's. The coffee was good, the food was tasty and the restaurant was well presented.. Only a few picky letdowns: Food was sent out before coffee, which for me is a no no. Our table wasn't serviced until we left to pay, I don't particularly like chatting away with a used plate in front of me. Also one of the staff members wiped down a table, then continued to wipe down the seats with the same cloth... surely not the best practice....

At first we were told there is a 15min wait but after we told them its too hare to wait with two toddlers they made accommodation of us. Love the wide ranges of desserts available and they were all beautifully made and not too sweet.

I went here for my birthday last year. The food was amazing! The staff was very nice! and the atmosphere was amazing. Since it was in the winter when I wen they had the heaters and and it got a bit too hot. But other than that it was amazing. Their cheesecakes in the cabinet are to die for!

Diana. In need of a coffee on a cold, wet & windy day at Mt Manganui. Spotted this on the waterfront on passing & we enjoyed perfect flat whites & the warm up was for free!!

This place has great food and wonderful service, I highly recommend it if you are in the area. I ordered the seafood chowder which was flavoursome with plenty of seafood. It was accompanied by some delicious garlic bread. My friend had the calamari which was served with rice (an interesting choice) and salad. The calamari was lightly battered and cooked perfectly. The atmosphere here is very pleasant and the service is friendly and efficient. I would definitely come back here if I am in the area again.
Jason Paul Garcia
Ambience. Exquisite especially at night with ample of seating choices. I would imagine the scenery would be fantastic in the morning for the establishment was situated in front of the beach.
Food. Ordered Steak and Calamari. I asked my waitress for my steak to be done medium but when it arrived it was well done. The vegetable side was a bit overcooked. Without salt and pepper the steak was really bland for me but with condiments it was really good. Enjoyed the Savanna Cider with lime which complimented my meal wonderfully.
Wait time. We had to wait for more than 30 minutes for our meal even though the place isn't fully packed with guests.

Great staff and great food. The chicken salad was fresh and a good portion size whilst the pizza was mouth watering and massive (left overs for lunch!). The you waiters were friendly and promt. Would definitely go back there if my partner and I end up at the Mount again.
Roya Rezaei
Worst staff except the owner which was a very nice lady but we have been served by a guy which totally forgot to send our order to kitchen! We were waiting for like 45 min as we were in hurry to go back to Auckland we asked about our food and the waitress said there is no such order!! And she said we can cancel the order! Which was totally not respectful and polite we were waiting for our food that long and the only thing she said is sorry and that we can cancel it or order again! The other staff member totally ignored us we had no tissue and water i think the owner should do something about her staff members .we sure Not going back there again.
Frank
Have been here before so we knew it was going to be good. Great location overlooking the main beach and the friendly staff sat us at an outside table which happened to come free when we arrived. Everything on the menu looked good, but it was the original Dixie Burger with mushroom sauce that tempted me and it didn't disappoint! Overall a very classy cafe and definitely a good choice for tasty eating with a bit of people watching thrown in!
Todd Jonathan
friendly staff, great food and easy restaurant to find.
had a table of 4 of us. we were well looked after and the meals were served with speed. didn't get desserts but they would probably be great too .
Hannah
Went here on a very busy night (due to being labour weekend), staff were lovely and managed to get us a table outside, then offered us one inside when it became available. We ordered the whole baked Brie which was so good, definitely recommend. Also had the welsh fillet steak which came with a pumpkin, spinach and walnut salad, everything was cooked nicely and was delicious. For dessert we ordered from their dessert cabinet - the peanut butter & caramel cheesecake and the tim tam cheesecake. These were rich and so tasty, a perfect end to a indulgent meal :)

First time I was there, great food and amazing deserts. Decided to go back last friday night for desert. First glass cup had what looked like some residues from other meals. Second cup, a little bit less and the third cup had lipstick marks on it. Although I really enjoy their meals, makes me question what their hygiene is like at the back. Won't be going back anytime soon + please get a proper barista.
Maureen
We went there for brunch on a Sunday. It was packed. They managed to get us a table for 10. The staff were so nice and professional. I was amazed how they treated my grandchildren. They made it a fabulous morning. The food was great.
High five to all the staff.
Michelle
Just had 4 nights at the Mount with friends. We had breakfast at Dixie Browns every morning. The service & food was fabulous. Had Dinner there one night, superb. Will definitely be heading back there soon. Thanks for the great service.
Clem
I have been to Dixie Browns for lunch with my partner a few times and everytime I have been there the service has been amazing and when there was a slight problem they went out of there way to make it right. The food is beautiful definitely a favourite of ours.

Stopped by by chance while visiting. Our waiter, Sasi, was excellent. The staff was very courteous. I had this chicken wrap and will come back again just for that! Strongly recommend. We are from Northern California and enjoy California cuisine and this ranks right up there. My wife had the custard square for dessert and loved it. Thank you for the recommends.

My wife and I have just taken my 90 year old Mum for mothers day brunch.
Only spare table was outside in the sun. Just as we sat down a table inside came available and it was offered to us. I was impressed with this.We ordered iced coffees and eggs Benedict with bacon. The iced coffees were to die for. It is Mums favourite drink. They were the best we have ever had and we have had a few. We had to hold back on the iced coffees to save room for our eggs Benedict. The eggs took a while but it was understandable as it was Mothers day and the place was full. When they arrived they were just perfect. The staff were great and very attentive, polite and friendly. We are looking forward to our next visit.

21 April. ..went for lunch today, staff were great and attentive....food was a let down.... dismal prawn and avo salad.... Some of the prawns were still frozen and as for the 3 slivers of avo? You shouldn't have even bothered... Fettucine... for the price it cost I expected a decent portion...I left there still hungry.... we are keen fans of the one I Taupo and would go back any day. ... There is no plan to return to the Mount one anytime at all and we would definitely discourage others from going there too.

Had Breakfast at Dixie's Browns this morning for grandson's birthday. On arrival we wanted to sit outside for 4 but a client was sitting at a table for 4 and holding another close by for 4 as well. Waitress came by as we had gone to another table with 3 and took a chair that was at the top of the ramp this was to stop people having an accident. Fair enough we were told to put back because of OSH regulations. She was going to show us the other table where the lady had put her bag to save for others and I said that was saved. The head? waitress then proceeded to say to this lady she could not hold and argued the pointwith her. We just went inside to another table, happy. The end result was the lady saving the tables left and the restaurant would have lost possibly 8 potential guests. Not handled that well. Breakfast 3 out of the 4 were great but mine was eggs benedict. Eggs had to be returned as they were not softly poached, not a lot of hollandise sauce and toasted bread was hard. It is the worst eggs benedict I have ever had and I have had a few. Coffee was excellent as was the other waitresses this being the saving grace. Water could also have been placed on the table on arrival. To resolve the ramp where people trip could you not put a large pot with a plant in it and remove the chair.

Wrote a review when went to this restaurant for breakfast on 6th of April, rated as excellent. Went back last week with my Mother for dinner. Very disappointed, the meals were very over priced and not good value for money. We ordered Fish and Chips which was $29, two medium sized pieces of fish with a pile of chips and a very un imaginative salad which consisted of some mesculin mix, slightly wiltered with a bit of onion and not much more. I ordered the Tuscan Chicken Burger, the portion of Chicken was large and delicious and the sauces very good but again the salad was very disappointing, a bit of Mesculin mix, some raw red onion and a small slice of tomato, also the bun was a very ordinary white one, all for $19. For dessert we had Affagato for $13.50 which consisted of a very small scoop of very average vanilla icecream with the smallest amount of grated chocolate on top with a nip of Baileys and a double shot of expresso. The Restaurant was very busy for mid week in Winter and the atmosphere and staff were excellent, but I'm sure they could do a lot better with the food.

We went to Dixie Browns a few weeks ago for dinner out and were blown away at the fantastic service and large portions! Great value for money and wonderful service. Food was fresh cooked perfectly and delicious.
Thanks for making our date night even more special!

We went to the restaurant last night for our anniversary. It is a lovely place and very quiet and relaxed. We were greeted with a smile and our waiter was lovely. Our starter and entrƩe we shared was amazing. A slight mishap with the main due to a severe tomato allergy, ( had tomato salsa on top, not on menu) but it was dealt with very professionally and at no time was I made to feel it was a problem or I was being difficult. It was an amazing evening and we will be going back again definitely. Thank you for a great evening and well done on your menu and staff.

I have dined in Dixie Browns both in Taupo & Mt. Manganui. The hamburgers are amazing & I think they are the best I have ever tasted. The Onions that come with meal are amazing. The scones with Plum Jam & Cream are also excellent. On every occasion that I had a meal the staff were very attentive, helpful & courteous. I have no hesitation in recommending "Dixie Browns" and look forward to the next time I am in the Bay of Plenty to visit them again.

Dined tonight.. the menu selection absolutely appeals to all tastes and age groups....great value.... the pizza we had was the largest we've ever seen and just great for families and large hungry groups at the beach.....the decor is superb .. The staff are well trained courteous and so happy to answer your questions... nothing is too much trouble...no one was just standing around but everyone was totally attentive and focussed on their customers...setting a high standard at the Mount ....delivered with sincerity...

Went there for dinner with a big group of us which we pre-booked the table, they were so accommodating for the extra people that came on the night as well. Once seated the waitresses were very attentive checking if we were okay for drinks and helping us with our meal selection. Once the food arrived (where pretty much every meal arrived at the same time and no one was left waiting). The meals were absolutely delicious and value for money, friends also loved the steaks and huge tasty pizza's and the filling burgers. It was definitely well enjoyed by all and even though they were extremely busy we were definitely well looked after.

We arrived and went to counter to peruse the food on offer and order a coffee, lady behind the counter did not even acknowledge our presence. Another lady at the end of the counter also ignored us, we asked if it was table service and was told it was so we found ourselves a table, they weren't busy, and waited, and waited.

A waitperson came out onto the deck walked around and went inside before we could ask for a menu.
We then decided we had given them long enough after about 10 minutes of no service at all and left.

Three staff members were by the counter talking together, glad I don't own that business.

My wife & I have just enjoyed a great meal here, we were warmly greeted & seated straight away. It took abit for us to decide what to order...great range of dishes available! We started with Feta & Rosemary bread which was very nice then for mains my wife had the entrƩe of Grilled Prawns & I had Welsh Fillet (ordered medium rear). We were very impressed with our dishes, my wife luved the prawns & my steak was cooked to perfection!
The service was great & an awesome location. We're looking forward to going back :-)

A group of 4 went on 17/12/2013. Entree came out after the main, entree should have been calamari, but for some reason the waitress and chef served prawns.
Waiter then managed to spill two drinks over one of the party, no apology offered. Tables were filthy even though place was not busy. A dreadful experience not only for those of us who are local but especially for the Australian visitor.

We were promptly served, shown to a table and given menu's. The ambiance was lovely! Our group of 6 were seated at a great large square booth meaning we had lots of space and could all talk - perfect set up for Sunday brunch. The menu had great variety, something for everyone including vegetarian, gluten and dairy free options which we appreciated. Our food orders took a age to arrive at our table..BUT everything was delicious, generous and well presented. The waitress came to ask how everything was, we enquired how long they had been open as we knew they were new - they had only opened the day before! We complemented them, the delays were totally understandable. Overall the views, interior and ambience are lovely, the menu is great, pricing reasonable, staff are friendly and we would highly recommend visiting.
