Review Sidetrack Cafe - Mount Maunganui

We came to this cafe every day for a week after walking up or around the Mount. Every time the service was amazing, the coffee delightful and the Banana/Chia loaf perfect. Best place for a coffee and always buzzing with people

A popular cafe on the waterfront! Great location, friendly staff and delicious food…it just lacks GF/DF options, especially in the cabinet.

Amazing service with a smile! Enjoyed the BLT and Moroccan lamb roll. It wasn't so crowded and the view of the beach was perfect!

You know where to buy a great coffee when u spot a cafe full of locals. So Sidetrack was my go to coffee spot voted by a resounding local presence. I have to say my decision to not eat was a terrible one. The food cabinet had a full offer of delicious and fresh fare. Gourmet sausage rolls and pies, slices, scones, muffins, wraps plus a ton of wicked looking sweet treats. Great place to stop after burning calories climbing the mount. Staff were attentive and the coffee was one of the best we had tried (on a par with Tay Street Cafe which is also great). Nice work Team!❤️

Across the road from the beach you will find this busy place, that makes great coffee. The food is also good. Well worth the tricky search for a carpark.

Walked down from campground bout 7:16am ish to grab brew.. place was packed!!! other cafes were all empty.. have been here before and Im familiar with Allpress coffee. 12oz 3 shot TA fw was good.. I wasnt gonna sit there to have the brew amongst all gossiping 40 somethings 😩 so preferred to walk across road to sit on beach which was by far better to welcome the morning sunrise watched by feather beach guardian.

Just absolutely brilliant and would recommend to all! Come early if you don’t want to wait long because these guys are popular!!

A great vibe and very busy even on a Monday which shows how good they are. Rasu the barista made me two awesome coffees on the day I went in and both him and Laura were just vibrant and chatty at all times. A great experience that made me go back the next day where there were different staff, but equally as energetic and engaging.

Been around forever, still good. I had a good decaf coffee (not easy to find in Tauranga) and a delicious halloumi stack. Pretty expensive but hey, it's a pretty sweet location so I'm not surprised at that.

Really helpful and friendly staff and a great food selection. The acai bowl is so good !

Petralee's Cafe has food to die for. Freshly prepared muffins are a signature item.

On visiting Sidetrack today, my friend and I ordered our meals from a very personable assistant. Our delicious food was delivered quickly and our table was cleared of empty plates promptly after we finished eating. We were asked if we would like anything else and fresh cold water was suggested and brought to the table. We were not hurried off but left to chat over our drinks. Everything was clean and all staff were very pleasant. Will call in again. Thankyou.

Very disappointed in this cafe. I purchased an iced latte which was $7, I was then given a small takeaway coffee cup with a disgusting coffee in it. This is outrageously priced. Not to mention the staff were rude and very unwelcoming. I highly do not recommend this place. Very angry customer.

The food isn't bad, average at best. Coffee was great (Allpress) but what really affected our eating experience were the wasps and we had a 14 month old baby with us! Funny though, it was the only resto teeming with wasps. Shame because a little spray could have made a difference to our experience. Also heard other customers complain. Real shame.

My breakfast was really good and original! Coffee was amazing, but a little bit of attitude from the waiter staff! Smoothie was really fresh and tasty... Nothing as using real fruits for it! I wish my dish was a little bit bigger, because the lunar a stack with bacon was yummy! I would probably come back !!! Nice work guys!

In amongst the melee that consist the cafes along the Mount's Marine Parade, sits one gem in the middle. Often recommended by locals, and apparently the place to go and be seen at, this place has the right mix of style, informality and great food to appeal to more than just us unqualified amateur diners. I had a Swiss omelette (with chorizo?) not entirely sure what was Swiss about it, but it did the trick. It is limited with space so might be hard to find a table at peak times, but the cabinet food looks sensational, just take away....!

I love coming here for brunch/lunch after I’ve been for a walk at the mount with my mum. It’s a great place to eat if you’re feeling like something fresh and healthy. I’ve been here several times now. So their menu may have changed. I’ll list the meals I’ve had here below:

Salmon Asian salad: This was from their cabinet. It included red and yellow peppers, rice noodles, purple cabbage, salmon and cashew nut. It also came with a sweet dressing, but I had it on the side. It was a nice light and fresh meal!

-My mum had their chicken bun that was in front of their counter. She said it was nice, but the bun was really hard and stale. We thought it might of been left out for a while.

Salmon and avocado sushi: They were selling a plate of sushi in their cabinet. I love avocado and salmon sushi, so this was perfect for me! I got to choose how many pieces I wanted too! I also asked for a side of their pearl couscous, feta and roast vegetable salad. The sushi was so fresh and tasty! It contained more filling than rice, which is how I like it! The salad was nice too, but I think next time I’ll just have more sushi
.
-My mum had the chicken rice paper wrap. It was quite a big fat wrap! She enjoyed it, but found it quite hard to eat.

Energiser stack: This was my first meal off their menu. It was a well-deserved meal, after running up the mount with my dad that morning. This dish consisted of 2 pieces of seeded toast, hummus, avocado, spinach, beetroot, carrot, a poached egg, grilled tomato and sprinkled with pumpkin and sunflower seeds. I also asked for a side of smoked salmon because I love it! This was a delicious meal!! It contained all of my favourite foods, and it was so fresh and “Energising” ;) I’ll definitely be getting this again.

-My dad is quite the opposite eater from me. He had potato stacks, mushrooms, bacon, avocado and tomato. He enjoyed his hearty meal.

Falafel wrap: I had this for lunch one day, and it was alright. Im not a fan of fried foods, and I didn’t realise that the falafel was fried. Other than that, it was still nice. There were lots of roast vegetables inside, but I did find it really messy to eat!

Grilled salmon salad: This was from their menu. It consisted of a fillet of grilled salmon, roasted kumura chunks, avocado, rested on a bed of salad leaves. It was delicious! The crispy skinned salmon was to die for!

Overall I love Side Track Cafe. I always come here for a meal after walking the mount! As you can tell I love my salmon, and this cafe is always providing me with it in some way!

One of the few places in the world (I tavel a LOT) that does not offer free wi-fi. Management is either ignorant of the modern basics or extremely tight fisted. Put me off the place even though all else was ok. They need to learn that being up-market means offering what their competitors offer.

I enjoy my visits to sidetracks, the staff are always friendly & the owner goes out of her way to remember customers names (even their children). The food is nutritious & tasty and the cabinet is always well stocked. I'm surprised to see negative reviews here but I guess some people just find an issue wherever they go.

Stopped in for lunch on a sunny weekend with the man and the dog. We got a table outside and were instantly offered a bowl of water for the parched pooch.

We both ordered the chicken burger, a smoothie for him and a pot of tea for me. The food arrived within a reasonable time and looked beautiful on the plate.... And big portions too. It was very tasty, just hit the right spot.

Service was great, friendly and helpful (always helps when the dog gets a bit of love too!)

Overall a very good experience and I would go back.

What a mess! Stopped in for a coffee place was a mess, all young staff with no-one that seemed to be in charge, coffee was average little to milky & spoon was dirty, granola slice was not very good. Just felt a bit to grubby for me to go back.

The food here is consistently fantastic, the staff are friendly and accomodating, this is our cafe of choice when we eat at the Mount being locals, we try to get to all the other cafes in town however we compare them all to Side Track Cafe and end up here at least once a fortnight because of their consistent service and food. The Eggs Benedict is the best in the Bay and the Breakfast Burger is delicious, their coffees and hot chocolates are always perfect and the prices are very reasonable. PLUS you cant beat the location.

I went there on the weekend. The barista was very friendly and the coffee was very nice. Food there looks great and well-priced. I will be more than happy to go back for a cup of coffee again. :)

Great coffee and nice food unfortunately the manager choose to question the integrity of my husband over two coffee stamps!! Told him she had already given him his coffee stamps for our first two coffees even though she wasn't on the counter at the time.

Very busy restaurant/cafe over Xmas period and weekends. Very popular with coffees etc. Great hot chocolate and good variety of food.

This cafe is by far the best the bay has to offer, the coffee is fantastic, the food is amazing and the staff are really friendly and if that is not enough it is right at the base of Mount Maunganui on the waterfront!

Wow, Unbelievable coffee, never had better! I only go in when on holiday and the owner always remembers my name and makes genuine conversation. The food is always fresh and comes out in a good time frame. Portions are generous and the meals are delicious. I have tried other cafes and always feel disappointed. Sidetrack always great..
