Review Speights Ale House Stonefields - Mount Wellington

Arlene Barraca
Enjoyed our stay at this lovely place in Stonefields. Clean and great customer service. Food is yummy. We have mango margaritas which we really enjoyed. Had brownie and calamari, perfect 👍. Though Warriors lost, it was still a fun night well spent at this place. Highly recommended 👏

Went with a group of 8 for lunch. Was very quiet, which was fine by us. We've been there twice before over the last 2 years, and the service and quality of food and atmosphere have consistently been excellent. The pie is what we went for, and it did not disappoint. I found the portions too large, and the kid portions not enough, but it evened out in the end. The cider on tap was fantastic, I highly recommend this for a summer lunch drink.

Pleasantly surprised with the BBQ Pork ribs! đŸ« đŸ– We had a half rack and it fed three of us. They were juicy but still had the chewy burnt bits I lurve - succulent close to the bone and crunchy on the edges. Meaty as all hell!! The sweet chilli sauce was a bit too sweet and as a last minute pour over lacked some of the baked in beauty and sticky, tacky tastiness of what lay beneath. Would have preferred that on the side. Good pints and big dark wood pub hideaway corners. The staff are absolutely outstanding!!

Very popular place with a kiwi homely atmosphere, food was delicious and service is usually on time after chats with families and friends... highly recommend it

Very good location in the decent neighbourhood Spacious venue Very American beer house style Buffalo wings, hmm, very different from what I used to have Good option to hangout with friends

Food is awesome specially the meat platter. The ribs are so tender with sauce selection to top it all. Highly recommended. Kudos to the all the chefs, management and staff. It was really a fantastic experience and very attentive and working hard staff. Highly recommended to dine in, chill out and enjoy the ambience.

It is a very good popular place for local to hang out. Very suitable for families gathering. Saw families with grandparents or grandchildren's. The place also has private area for dining away from the pub gathering people. Always busy during a big games such as All black games, super league games or black caps cricket games. Foods are average. Good choices of beers.

Great local bar & grill. Good selection of beers & always tasty food! Staff are nice & plenty of parking. Just went down for lunch and the new menu is now mainly pizzas, burgers & snacks. It's disappointing to see some of the staples, such as steak & ribs gone. Will keep an eye on it...

Family of 5. 10 out of 10 for the entire experience tonight! The cherry on top definitely was the service. Our waiter was on top of everything, food service was on point & the best part for me is their were no fake smiles. Everyone was genuine & I felt they really wanted to make sure we enjoyed our experience. It was our first time at Speights Stonefield & we will definitely be back 🎯
John
Generous portions and good taste. A decent spot for a local meal out.

We often come here for the weekly pub quiz on Mondays. Compared to other quizzes, especially nearby ones, this is one of the best. Starts at a decent time, doesn't waste too much time and allows us to get out on time. The food selection is also pretty good here, and costs about as much as most other pubs.

I came here on Sunday at 8pm with my wife and the it was nice and quite, I think thats why we got kicked out at 9pm even though it says they open until 11pm. I know we came in late and we understand. We still enjoyed few drinks with shoestring, I will try to come in earlier for next time so you guys can finish up early😁

Speights Ale House Stonefields was a great dining experience! The atmosphere as we entered was very much sports bar but when we were seated around the corner from the bar/TV it was actually very quiet and comfortable to sit and eat. Service was bubbly, our order was taken quickly and the food came promptly. It definitely felt like we were being looked after. The food itself was tasty, and the menu had a wide range of options ranging from pub food to finer options. The drinks menu was the highlight, with the Speights range on tap (yum) and the option to choose between glass, pint or jug. The range of alternatives was also extensive so plenty of options for those less keen on a beer. Staff were very helpful and we had a lovely time. Will definitely be back for another brew soon!

One of our favourite restaurants in the area. Visited Speight's Ale House many times and have always been satisfied with our meals. It has great atmosphere and big TV screens for live sports. Some of our favourite meals are Bangers and Mash, Southern-man Steak, Black Cherry Chicken, Steak and Cheese Pie and Fish and Chips! <3
Marie Stanley
The food was superb as usual. It is a favourite place for lunch. Our waitress was busy but not once came back to see if we wanted further drinks or dessert. And the place was warm and friendly with lots of families. It was lovely

This place is absolutely amazing. Had the best 25th birthday with my man. Staff are amazing live band was so good exceptional. And the food was the bestest food I've had n forever, especially the steak. 100% amazing everyone must go here. 😍😍

Food isn’t too bad, classic pub meal but no longer on Zomato Gold prices it way too high to justify. Takes a while to be served but the staff are nice.
Arianaaa
Venue was nice and big, but we didn’t get served for at least 20 minutes after we sat down even though there were only two other tables of customers at the time.<br/>Food was ok, nothing special but pricing for the food was a bit overpriced and did not reflect the quality and quantity being served to us. <br/>Wouldn’t really go back unless you were to utilise the 1+1 food benefit for gold members on Zomato.
Dean S
The first time we came here, the waiter told us we could not use Zomato. They were very ill informed and we were disappointed, however we gave it another shot and love the place now.
Natalie Van Baarlen
Food was good but if you are planning to go here on a public holiday and use your gold membership don't bother. Went here recently on a public holiday and they would not honor terms and conditions of the membership and give us our entitlement to gold benefits. They talked to zomato themselves confirmed it was okay and then the manager over ruled the decision and we ended up paying full price. Very disappointed as we pay for this membership and are entitled to the discount even on a public holiday - as per terms and conditions.
Mark Jarvis
They are signed up for the Zomato Gold deal but did not give us the discount associated with our deal.Dont sign up if you are not willing to act on your part of the terms and conditions. As a matter of principal you shouldn't treat returning customers like that.<br/>

Pork belly was so delicious, and paired so nicely with the red wine jus! Such nice and friendly staff. Will definitely be back sometime soon!

Visited in a group of 4 on a Monday night. Lively place to be with the pub quiz happening but good atmosphere. Staff friendly and helpful, drink service very fast and meals in good timing considering how busy it was. Food was great, good wholesome pub grub. Zomato was a good saving, we will be back.
Adam Rameka
Great service though was not busy while there. Pork belly was Cooked well and delicious. The lamb shank was tender while taste was good to average. Recommended the tiramisu which was nice, heavy on the cream however. Would go again, and gold membership definitely makes it worthwhile.

I like this resturant :)<br/>Service is warm and pacient 5/5<br/>Ambience 5/5 it is very bright bar<br/>Burger is a standard taste 4/5- before you eat it you already know the taste of it, pizza 4.5/5 is very cheesy and I love it, will come back to try more pizza. Good beer<br/>The price on the menu is a bit pricy unless you use Zomato Gold :)

Came here for lunch, ordered lamb shank and pork belly. Good quantity but quality wasn’t at the top notch. The pork belly was greatly flavored, tasted very good. However, shown in the photo, it’s quite dry and overcooked, so it was a bit too rough, it went down easier with the sauce. Mash potato was great on both dishes, loved it, seasoned very well. For the lamb shank, texture was on point, meat came off the bone easily and melts in your mouth, seasoned very well too but personally not a big fan of the games taste of the lamb. This is a very subjective opinion of mine. Would’ve been perfect for us if the presence of the taste of smell was gone. <br/><br/>Food was on the pricey side, but with gold Zomato membership, it’s worth the try. If you don’t have gold membership maybe try their best dishes or the dishes that has good reviews. Didn’t try their best dishes as we didn’t feel like having pizza nor steak for lunch. So definitely I’m not giving the most objective review. If I have another opportunity, will definitely come back with gold membership to try their best dishes.<br/><br/>Cleanliness- 4<br/>Environment - 5<br/>Price - 1<br/>Quantity - 4<br/>Quality - 3.5

We went on Monday for lunch. It was quiet and the service was very good. We ordered bangers and mashed and also a pizza. The food was ok, worth it with zomato gold!

Large venue with bar and restaurant area however it's recommended that you book for a restaurant table as they get quite busy!<br/><br/>Food is alright nothing special but it's not too bad. I've had the calamari which is decent with nice sauce. I had the garlic pizza which took me my surprise in terms of the portion size - pretty big for just starters. Then I've had the prawn twisters as well which were my favourite for me.<br/><br/>A good place to snack at however I'll be back to try their bigger mains!<br/><br/>Service is average as it gets quite busy<br/><br/>Food 7/10<br/>Ambiance 6.5/10<br/>Service 6/10<br/>Price 6/10

Food was nice and service ok but both my partner and I both got a sore stomach afterwards and we didnt eat anything else that day. I had fish and chips and my partner had a fish burger. Might have been a coincidence but unfortunately we wont be back in a hurry.

The service let us down big time. We were there on Wed night. It was not that busy when we arrived and we waited for food about 45-50mins! We were so close to walk away. Yes food were in big quantity but talking about quality, it’s definitely not like the size. The pork ribs were tough, nowhere near tender and a bit lukewarm like they were in microwave before served to us. It’s totally not worth the price. Lamb shank was good thankfully - the meat fell off the bone with good seasoning. It’s a busy place for the area but I’m not sure if I want to go back again.

Tonight my friend and I had a very tasty meal thanks to @speightsstonefields 😇 I ordered the Southern Man Steak which consisted of Scotch Fillet carved and served with Salsa Verde, Wild Rocket, Parmessan, Onion Gravy & Potato Rosti đŸ™ŒđŸ» This dish was INCREDIBLE 😍 I can see why it’s their most popular meal! The steak was cooked perfectly and I loved the taste of the Onion Gravy đŸ€€ My friend ordered the BBQ Beef Burger which he loved (and is one of my personal favourites)! We also got the Wild Pork Ribs as an entrĂ©e (swipe for the photo)! This was my first time having Ribs and they were amazing!! đŸ€© Overall our meals were great and I loved meeting the manager and other staff members! Everyone was so kind and the atmosphere @speightsstonefields is great! - @delicious.food.finder (Instagram)<br/><br/>SECOND REVIEW:<br/><br/>Wow @speightsstonefields you just get better and better every time I visit đŸ™ŒđŸŒ I’m so happy I joined your VIM (Very Important Mate) Loyalty Program! A solid 10% off the bill made my night 100% better 😝 It’s super easy to join too! Just head on over to their website or sign up next time you visit! <br/>Last night I decided to try a new dish and chose the Lamb Rump served with Potato Gnocchi. I absolutely loved this meal! It was like two meals in one as I got two massive pieces of Lamb Rump and Gnocchi in an amazing Napoli Sauce & Red Wine Jus đŸ· <br/>I also tried the Garlic Pizza Bread w/ Mozzarella Cheese. You can’t go wrong with cheesy pizza so I highly recommend getting this as an entree! <br/>My friends ordered the Pork Belly, Te Anau Pizza and the Steak & Cheese Pie. All the meals were presented really well and tasted divine. <br/>Thank you Adam and the rest of the team at Speights Ale House Stonefields! As always you were so lovely and very attentive 💖

Speights ale house is always a winner a little slice of home in Auckland . Food was on point super delish and generous servings as usual. Can’t fault the food and the staff were super lovely and helpful. Great work keep it up and we’ll be back again soon ... neat time I’ll make sure to keep room<br/>For desert

One of our favourite restaurants in the area. We've visited Speight's Ale House many times and have always been satisfied with our meals.  We have also unlocked our Zamato Gold discount a couple of times here recently which is great value!  We love the atmosphere and big TV screens for live sports.  Some of our favourite meals include Pork Belly, Bangers and Mash, Southern-man Steak, Black Cherry Chicken, Pan Fried Fish, Steak and Cheese Pie and Fish & Chips!  Note - they advised me that they will only do Zomato Gold discount for 2 more months and will be off permanently after that.  So be quick, get your Zamato Gold now and if you use this promo code: DESM9104 you will get a 20% discount ;-)

We just love the ambience of this pub which became our ‘regular’ since they opened. Love their fish & chips and mussels being my favourite. I wish they would bring back the old mussels menu with chorizo & tomato gravy. Today’s mussels were in Thai sauce, although good but it would be nice to have the precious menu alongside as another option. Would have given this review a 5 star but service was a bit slow even though it was not peak hours around 1.30 pm ish. We were in no hurry hence didn’t mind the wait.<br/>The bonus is this pub is a participating restaurant on Zomato gold so we will be here even more often!<br/>You can join Zomato gold with 20% discount with this promo code LITTLETD. Enjoy 😉

Ayooo I'm definitely coming back here.<br/><br/>The atmosphere was great, easy parking, our waiter provided us that top notch A1 service.<br/><br/>Only issue was that our food took a very very very long time to come out. And when we were getting served the waiters (not the guy who took our orders) but others kept bringing the wrong dishes and food that wasnt ordered by us to our table and kept taking them away.<br/>Idk if it was a busy night or they were tired I'm not sure but man it kept getting us excited and upset again when we realised it wasn't our food Haha.<br/><br/>But I'll definitely come here again. The ribs were decent but what got me was the huge portion sizes!

Speights Ale House, lets be real - you don’t come for the food. You come for the beers and TV and stay for the staff that begin to feel like family. Charleston beef pizza is amazing - mixed with a cheeky Monday night quiz and a pint or three? Can’t beat it. But seriously, if you’re looking for 5 star food - it’s not that, and most likely never will be. Take it for what it is, a kiwi classic.

I would rate this 3.5 based on experience. The food was good and well presented. We had the hashbrown meal. The only things that pulled this down was the guy trying to get us not to use the Zomato app, saying it wasn’t working atm, and second thing was ordering a side of mushrooms and it being only 1 portobello mushroom that came. 1 single mushroom for $5. I’d go back but not for breakfast.

Convenient, relaxed, easy parking -friendly attentive staff. There’s a lovely walled semi outside part which with the evening sun is a perfect place for enjoying a beer or a wine as the sun goes down. <br/>Great pub food. I have been here before - consistently good.

Even though it’s a pub, there is a restaurant area tucked away at the back. It was pretty quiet when we came for lunch, and it was a very nice and laid back atmosphere. <br/><br/>We ordered the Chicken Filo and Fish & Chips with our Zomato Gold membership, and we got a great deal for the price. Portions were quite generous and well presented. <br/><br/>There is no more Zomato Gold now, and for the price we will give three stars. Fives stars with Zomato Gold.

Was way too hungry and forgot to get photos of the meals but definitely worth it! <br/>I ate the bbq pork ribs. Came with a massive stack and chips and side salad. Very generous portions!<br/>People at the table bought the bangers and mash (gluten free available!), the pork belly and wedges. Pork belly was cooked to perfection and the only thing the sausages lacked was more salt. <br/><br/>Would definitely come back! Great ambiance and the staff are great

Great little spot in Stonefields , coffee and food was great , great portion size. Pitty I couldn’t use my Gold membership for breakfast but was really nice regardless. I had the Veg Eggs Bene was great!

Orders the vag pizzas, ribs and fish and chips. The pizzas were really good , topping were generous. One came with feta tomato and Other one had artichokes, pumpkin.

Overall: Average pub food, but nice setting and very good service<br/><br/>Food: There is a wide selection of food available and plenty of options for those with dietary intolerances. The food is OK, certainly no problem with volume, it's just probably best referred to as standard pub food. It is a pub after all so don't be surprised, but I think it could carry a touch more flavour. I ordered the caramelised onion pizza bread as a starter but when it arrived, by observation I could see there was no caramelisation at all. The onions were literally just softened.<br/><br/>Service: The service is great, the staff are polite, attentive and friendly. Timing for taking orders and getting food and drinks is very good. We were even questioned if we wanted the entrees we ordered at the same time as the pizza bread, so nice thought to confirm.<br/><br/>Ambience: It's a pub and therefore don't expect the quietest venue. That said, it wasn't noisy. Cool vintage fitout throughout.

Atmosphere and food was good, we ordered the black cherry chicken and chicken fettuccine. Almost finished a bottle of wine waiting on our food, at this point not even our starters were out. Staff were nice and attentive only after they noticed we waited a long time for our food. Would go again, hopefully service improves.
Fai Fairoa
Food was good. Ordered the chicken with Cherry stuffing. The chicken wasnt actually stuffed with cherries but rather topped with it instead. It was nicely cooked wrapped in bacon. Fries arrived as normal French fries and not the curly fries we had ordered. We waited 45mins for our food and it was only noticed by the waiter cleaning the table next over that we were still waiting. Despite that, it was a nice calm atmosphere and would visit again.

Went to the speights ale house to celebrate my brothers birthday waited 2 hours for the food to arrive when the food arrived it was dry and overcooked my dish in particular was gluggy and left me feeling rather ill and my dads meat was not cooked it was still running around in the farm however was somehow cold. I am extremely dissapointed
Birgit Rahm
We came in for a snack and ordered two orders of fries and an antipasto platter. This was below average to say the least. Low quality sausages, chicken wings with absolute no taste (no spices at all), small amount of salami and chorizo and a bit of bread. We ran out of drinks and it took a while to get the attention of a waiter. Won't be back.
Vicky Guo
Came here on a Sunday night and the service was not the best, host and wait staff did not acknowledge us when we were there. As they were fully booked we were given the choice to dine at the bar area. We sat there for 15minutes until we finally waved down a waiter who then came and took our order then food took over half an hour to come out. Overall the service was terrible. Wait staff did not smile once over the 2 hours we were there. The Sunday roast was tasteless but pork ribs and black cherry chicken was amazing ! Highly recommend if you were to eat here!

Came here for an early dinner one weeknight. Everything about this place as “ok” it could’ve been due to the time of day but the staff, ambience and food were just “ok” nothing amazing. The staff were nice, not very welcoming and it felt like asking for a table that wasn’t in the middle of the room was a big inconvenience (again it was early evening - 5ish, so it wasn’t busy) but once we were seated we were checked up on heaps which is nice. Ambience was a little lacking, the decor is pretty cool, but some more music and warmer heating would match the cosy speights vibe. The food and drinks were good. I got the steak pie with the matching beer (I do love that they suggest matches) and it was good, it felt like it had been slapped on the plate rather than made with love, but perhaps I’m wanting to much? Servings were decent. <br/>Overall, it’s a good local spot. A few tweaks would take it from ok to good! I would come back if I was in the area and wanted a hearty meal.
Fred Ade
A local - great range of beers and wines. Burgers are very good. Reasonable priced. Never disappoints. Not top end but one can have a great evening with friends. <br/>

Food average but a bit pricey. Staff inattentive and if your disabled (like my 90 year old father) then find somewhere else to eat. Establishment is definitely disabled unfriendly.

my sister birthday was the 10th Jan so my mother, brother inlaw, sister and me  went to The Speight's Ale House for  lunch. The place was very quiet. the  woman that served us was excellent and she wasn't pushy which is what i like, ,, i ordered and shared the calamari ($18) it was excellent, tasty and tender, i thought the price was a little high but i haven't been to a restaurant in a long time so that might be the going price, , i also had the stack of ribs ($19) ,, the ribs were hot, tasty and tender,  i had trouble eating the ribs,, the first 3 ribs i ate went down great, the rest i struggled eating them, , i think the sauce was too sweet for me and i started to get a sickly taste in my mouth,  my mum ordered the potato wedges ($12) she loved them and they were  the right portion size for her,,  for anyone else, i would say the portion size is very small,.  my sister ordered the Chicken Filo Parcels ($25) , there was 2 good size parcels, my sister said it was really good but she could only eat one,,   i think they should only serve one and drop the price.        my brother inlaw ordered the Seafood Chowder ($25) , i thought that's expensive for soup but my brother inlaw said it tasted great and he didn't mind paying that amount,, he also ordered the garlic pizza bread ($12) ,, he should of read the menu better as he thought it was for the normal garlic bread and not garlic cheese pizza, we also ordered rustic fries ($9) , they were hot and tasty and stayed warm for a long time, the only negative comment i have is the back ground music was a touch too loud, i didn't like their choice  of music but it didn't annoy me and spoil our lunch

I’ve eaten here 3 maybe 4 times in the last month. Nothing is particularly bad. It’s just not good. I have an office around the corner and I live ten minutes away so I end up here often-ish. <br/>The front of house staff are excellent. Top notch. Good people. The place is clean and appears to be well run. <br/>The food is a real mixed bag. The pizza bases look store bought. The fries are too chunky and are never cooked long enough making them not soft and fluffy like they should be. <br/>I’ve had most things on the menu at least once from here. Recently everything seems bland. If it was me thinking that once I’d brush it off as nothing. My other guests said the same thing on multiple visits. But it’s like the kitchen has gone to war against salt and pepper. I’m not really happy about it because this place deserves more than 2.5 but someone needs to find the salt Scrooge and show him or her the door.

We went there last Saturday and found everything was great. There was a good gluten free selection for my liking and the rest of my family also enjoyed their meals too.  Ashleigh Bangar  Shaun Chaney

Very close to work, so I eat here fairly regularly. It's pleasant, tidy, and comfortable.  Absolute standouts are the vegetarian pita (yeah, I know, can you believe it?) and the lamb's fry, but I go with large groups usually and everyone seems pretty happy with what they order.  It's an unadventurous pub menu, but if you want pub food you could easily do worse. I love beer but am not all that crazy about Speight's (though it's easily the best of the Big Three, i.e. along with Tui and Lion Red). Service is great, kid friendly, employees seem to enjoy their jobs. Prices are a tad steep but nothing truly outrageous.

Great location, excellent customer service, good food and beers. We ordered Angus Beef burger, Seafood chowder, dumplings, Kid’s chicken and fish & chips, calamari, Sunday roast and tasting tray. The food was good except for little things like the thick pastry on dumplings and the crackling of the roast pork was a bit rubbery and not that crispy. A family-friendly place and generally the experience was good.
Julia Louise
Nice suburban pub. Given the location it was really humming, quite busy on the Friday night we visited. Food was tasty and served quickly but a little pricey ($18 for the calamari snack plate). Friendly staff and good atmosphere with great live music.

This is our winter netball (across the road from AMI)  go to place for dinner <br/>Good Selection of food , warm and inviting , great atmosophere.

The Speight's Ale House feels a bit underrated (but that's my opinion). Love the atmosphere. The staff is gracious and extremely accommodating. The menu is reasonably priced and lots of great drink options ranging beer to wine. It's also a great place to watch a game.

Service has gone down big time. Very average. We ordered ribs which were chewy as and over cooked. Steak and cheese pie which was literally a supermarket pie thrown in the microwave and dumped onto some potato. Steak in it was chewy also didn't eat most of it. Oysters had about 1cm of batter around them. Nothing was good about any of the meals and service was below average. Disapointing. Wont be back for dinner again
RachaelAlison
Dined here for lunch last weekend and was particularly impressed with the service. We evolved in to quite a large group as more friends joined us for a beer after lunch and we had to be reseated to another area. Staff accommodated us really well despite this and were friendly and attentive throughout. Definitely not fine dining, though it's not trying to be. Tasty pub food with very generous servings. I highly recommend the steak and cheese pie.. delish!

Speights is a handy, reliable option when you are seeking a utility venue for a drink or meal. It is good at what it does and the staff are capable, friendly and relaxed. Not fine dining or award winning coffee but good cooking and cold beers. A shame that the Stonefields locals don't appreciate what it is trying to achieve - they seem to use it in all the wrong ways. When it finds its identity, it will become a great spot.
LilMiss Foodie
Been here twice now for dinner. I'd have to recommend their beer battered Fish n Chips!! Here at Speights Ale, there is a variety of beers for beer lovers. Food serving size is large in portion, but not too big unlike other pub/restaurants - however it is filling and something you will not complain about. đŸ‘đŸŒ Service is a 5/5. Staff have refilled our water jugs without us having to ask for more. Ambience is 5/5. Live music is calm and not too noisy on a Sunday. It's a very busy restaurant with lots of groups coming in, so if you are to dine here on a weekend, I think it would be best to reserve a table prior so that you are seated in the "calm" area. There is a slight wait on the food, but it will be worth it.

A new resident of Stonefields, it was imperative that I try out Stonefields' local pub.<br/><br/>Having tried the Speights Ale house in Hamilton where I enjoyed a gracious evening filled with gorgeous pub meals and flowing drinks.<br/><br/>My]] experience in Hamilton wasn't really replicated here at the Speights Ale House Stonefields unfortunately, firstly the serving plates we received still had food scraps on them (Picture for reference), secondly soggy Prawn Twisters and distant service makes for an rather disappointing experience.<br/><br/>That's not to say that all was bad at Speight's though, their pizzas were flavorsome and were colorful and visually appetizing. They have a decent range of light and vegetarian options which was great for two members of our group. Focusing on drinks, nothing really beats a Summer Ale on a sunny Stonefields day and the pricing for drinks is reasonable<br/><br/>Perhaps I had come here with to much expectation, but I certainly wont be rushing back here for food anytime soon.<br/><br/>Showstopper: Motukeka Vegetarian Pizza, really fresh tastying pizza<br/><br/>Overall Grade: B-
Stephy_NakiGirl
Great location in the growing Stonefields development. It like an old pub but has lots of windows to let in the natural light.<br/>Service was very friendly & efficient from the quiet young man who looked after our table. The lady on the till was lovely too.<br/>They have a wide & varied menu so something for kids, vegetarians, really anyone.<br/>We had the chicken tenders & wedges, fish & chips & the pie & mash. All our meals were tasty, well made & good value. Two of us ordered the crumble for dessert - also really nice & not too sweet.<br/>One of the better gastro pubs we've visited - it seems to have gotten even better over time.

Place was empty apart from my partner and I and one other group of 2 which was fine because it was the middle of the day on a week day, service wasn't great but no one was rude either which is always a good thing. Loved the food though, we only got a few little nibbles like a pizza bread and wedges and some chicken nibbles but it was all delicious and would definitely go back for them. Only thing that would've bumped my rating up is if the staff hadn't seemed quite so arrogant, just sort of felt uncomfortable like the staff didn't want us there
Jason Chow
Went there a couple days ago and got greeted, but had to get the menu ourselves, had to ask for water ourselves, I don't know if it's only speights ale house procedures but had to walk up to the bar and order our food too. Felt as if I should be working there and it wasn't even busy! They didn't give us plates for a shared starter too. Even if these were the procedures they should have told us that's what we need to do. Food was great but service was shocking.
Janice Lester
Pretty extensive menu available at lunchtime.  We arrived around 1pm.  Few patrons, music on the unnecessarily loud side.  Wheelchair access pretty good, just a few big threshold lips here and there.  Indoor and covered outdoor seating available.  You need to start a tab or pay in advance if you choose to sit outside.<br/><br/>The steak and cheese pie was excellent (could have used more cheese, but then I tend to say that about anything with cheese on it!).  The onions were wonderful.  Mash and mushy peas underneath the pie--the whole thing was quite attractive.  Not sure what the jus was exactly but it went down well.  Would definitely order this again.<br/><br/>Guest had the fish and chips--no complaints, it all disappeared.<br/><br/>We certainly plan to visit again.

oFood average, its a pub, felt like a pub, poor service, one persons meal came out 20minutes before anyone else, found out as the rest of us being served that that meal was for another table and waitress got it wrong. When we complained refused a refund. We also had the displeasure of drunk patrons next to us(yes so they serve drunks) tripping and spilling drink down one of our coats, when we complained to the manager, I observed the waitress conversing with that table and laughing - that's a bad look. Poor management of the entire situation, will definitely NOT return.

Popped in for brunch with Le daughter and husband. Love this place! On the menu for us was seafood chowder, cheese pizza, the works potato wedges , I had the fish cakes and I didn't get the daughters burger in. High quality food, great atmosphere , parking good, coffee not toooo shabby, all in all great place to have a meal whether on the run or meeting up with friends/family. Would definitely return to try something else!

Great place to hide from the freezing weather. Friendly service and great atmosphere for a family lunch. Great tasting pub food without trying to be too fancy. It was a busy lunch time and the staff dealt with the crowd very well.
Lyndsay Sykes
great place for food and drink.. I always get the lamb salad.. The food is defiantly value for money, I'm always stuffed after coming here. The pizzas are great.. And the calamari is amazing.<br/>You might want to book if you don't want to sit in the bar to eat, as this place gets very busy.

Went early one weekend with my 2yo and was pleasantly surprised. Staff were lovely and the food was ok - standard pub fare. Speed is the key with a toddler and they did not disappoint. I felt very relaxed, would go back for an easy family meal.

Stopped by for lunch when it was opening. It wasn't bust and we were given options of seating. We were seated outside and it was quite nice until the sun started to come down on us.<br/><br/>The service was quite good, our water bottle kept being replaced as needed. The food was quite nice. I had the fish and chip and the batter on the fish was nice and crispy. Decent size for lunch.

Previously I had rated this restaurant as a 3.0. Great service but the food was lacking. I'm pleased to say the service has gotten even better and the food has improved as well. I had Dumplings as an entree and Caesar Salad as a main. The Caesar Salad was much improved from what I experienced last time. That's great to see. It was certainly much needed. The costs for 2 entrees and 2 mains including 3 beers and 2 glasses of wine were $55 a head. Pretty good. Keep improving Speight's Ale House. Good to see.

Bit of a mixed bag. The steak sandwich was very good, but was roughly put together and fell apart. It also had chewy fat which made it difficult to eat. The staff were a tad rude, rushing us to order and making snide comments when they came back. <br/>From the outside it looks good, and in the waiting area is nice, but the actual tables don't seem to fit the tone and ate quite crammed. Tables small and close together and we were very close to the toilets. So crammed that people going to the toilet had to squeeze past the person on the end of the table. <br/>Price was ok, main and 2 beers for $41<br/>

Speight's Ale House is a family friendly pub where you can get decent meals and friendly service.  It was good for our little one as they had high chairs, a good selection on their kids' menu and colouring sheets and crayons for her.<br/><br/>We had a nice spot by the window on a sunny day and the tables are not crammed together.  We found our meals to be fine, although nothing too different or special, but exactly what you would expect for pub food.  Overall, a decent place for a casual lunch in the weekend.

Huge portions, friendly service and tasty pub grub!  Great place to come for lunch, after work for a few beers or even on a Saturday morning when you have picked the kids up from their activities!

This is one of the largest restaurants I've ever seen in Auckland! There is so much floor space and tables but it is very well spread out. The decor is super fun with a western/70s NZ theme 😎. The staff are very attentive and at your service without being too in your face. I think the menu has a lot to offer but my only judgement would be if you don't like mushrooms - this menu is a little hard to order from in some parts, otherwise there is something for everyone (almost!). If you like beer/lager then you'll love this place, I think a guys night out would be lots of fun here đŸ» The dishes I tried were all a little dry in the meat department but they have lovely desserts and have some pretty well made sauces with both the sweet and savory dishes. I'd definitely come back here, just not in a hurry.

at the last minute.  my mum decided she wanted to go out for dinner on mothers day..  we arrived at stonesfields speight's alehouse and we were told<br/>the place was booked out but we could eat in the bar or outside.. after waiting over 40 minutes  with no sign of being served, my sister went to find a waitress.. the waitress said we had to go to the bar to order our meals as they do not serve food outside,, they could of told us this when we were seated instead of us sitting there getting brassed off with there slack service.. how hard is it to go to a table and take a order.. they bring out the food so they should take the  orders.  we only ordered mains as they cannot be bothered giving service so i don't want to give them any more money...  one thing that spoiled our night was the loud music.. we  had a speaker near us and it was so loud we could not hear each other talking..the singer was dreadful.  my biggest complaint was all the smokers in the outside eating area.. if they are serving food there should be no smokers allowed. we have been to this place a few times but never again.. there menu is boring

Had Mother's Day lunch with my wife and kids. We did not make any bookings but got accomodated anyway, which was great as the place got packed quickly. The service staff were friendly and got our orders promptly. We had BBQ chicken wings, calamari on small plates, seafood chowder, and Caesar's salad. The menu tells you which food items were gluten-free and that was good. My sons had the chicken burger with chips and cherry baked chicken. They finished the food off in a quick fashion. The menu had a comprehensive list of Speight's beer - have to come back next time to try these. The food was good but nothing stood out as being unique or great. Overall, a good experience.

Been here a few times for drinks and meals never been impressed with the food reminds me of lonestar and I hate that place with a passion. Packet mash, ordered the typical salmon sliders and they wernt made with love was very disapointed could have made yummier at home could of stuck with a salad

Nothing too special. You're average bar food. You do get a slightly bigger menu with more variety compared to most places tho. <br/>Food: 3/5<br/>Service: 3/5 (keep forgetting to give us cutlery) <br/>Atmosphere: 3/5 <br/>Value for money : 3/5 <br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/>

Went with the family for lunch was a bit average for the price and the amount of time we had to wait. The service was great though. This is a good place for a catch up over some beers though.
Maggie
Took my family there for a birthday dinner. Waited 1 hour 15 minutes for our meal and it was a Tuesday night. Didn't get offered any nibbles while we waited and waited. The meals were very average and some overcooked. They did offer us free drinks near the end of our meal for the long wait.<br/>Will not return there.

Great food and best fries. Everything goes well with the range of tap beer you can get from Speight's Ale House. I tried one of the platters, fries, ribs, seafood pizza and salad. Everything was perfect and very delicious. The food are fresh, well presented and what makes the place complete is the cozy atmosphere. The furnishing and the decoration is very lovely. Been there three times and will be going back again.
John Nicks
Been here a few times with wife. Good place, trendy, cosmopolitan. Gastropub with excellent choice of beer and good affordable food. Service needs a bit of training as they are not even close to be professional, that is the only issue. Would I come back. Of course!

Like many others, my wife and kids used to love this place and we ate there regularly. But we began to notice how the service was slipping. Tables not cleared promptly, entrees and mains delivered to the table at the same time, spills not being cleaned up. And when we tried to bring this to the attention of senior staff or the manager, our concerns were dismissed as unimportant and it was suggested to us we go somewhere else.<br/>A great location, interesting decor and quite good food totally let down by bad managers. And that poor leadership goes much further as our letter to Speights head office went unanswered.
Jean Hawea
We love this restaurant, we've been 5 times now. It's not often my husband and I agree on food but this place just ticks all the boxes. Delicious food, reasonable prices, friendly service &amp; a nice relaxing environment. We take our 10 &amp; 3 year old and they get crayons and colouring-in pictures. <br/>I quite often get 2 x entrees rather than 1 x main, so I get 2 yummy meals. Love the Chicken Nibbles, Ribs and rustic fries with aoli. My hubby loves the Lamb shank Pie. And you can sit back and have a drink while watching the rugby/league. Totally recommend.

Been here a couple of times and the staff are always friendly. The restaurant is clean with a nice colonial theme throughout. The food is a real let down of this place. The menu is nice but the cooks have no skill to bring out the beauty of the menu. I've had the hayman's steak and it was not juicy or piping hot. The menu said field mushrooms came with the steak. Well, I only got one field mushroom. The creamy mushroom sauce was just mushroom soup in a side little side bowl. Everything just tasted bland and lifeless. On another visit I had the chicken burger. The chicken patty was fried fish and chips style. It was a piece of chicken with batter surrounding it which made it taste bland and uninteresting. The pineapple just made the whole thing too sweet as there was a sweet plum dipping sauce and a tomato dipping sauce for the chips. It felt like a little kids burger that cost 21 bucks, everything was just sweet tasting. Next time I'll just stick to beer and chips. At least they can't get that wrong.
Tobi
I enjoyed my meal here. A couple of beers and a platter. Good selection of cold cuts, cheeses, pickles etc... Service was friendly and the food arrived quickly even though the place was extremely busy. I'll be back again in the future.
Will McLaren
Great friendly team providing good service throughout evening. The food portion sizes were great value for the price. I had the fish and chips which was only $21.00 and i was defiantly well full after this. Dessert pirtion sizes were very generous with the cheesecake you could share quite easily. Highly recommend a visit in this well fit out pub

We went here recently for a Sunday dinner with family, eight of us. We had a awesome time and the meals were great. Bar staff were on to it and friendly, no worries there. The meals came out in no time and my venison burger was awesome, juicy and very tasty. The place was quite busy but despite this the wait staff really looked after our table and we could not have asked for any better. Well done guys, we'll be back and we will spread the word about your place to our friends for sure.
Stacey
I've given this place more than enough chances but every time I go there, the bar staff are horrible. The first time I got interrogated about my ID (I’m 25
) The second time the girl behind the bar was busy txting and looked disgusted that I was there, she was clearly annoyed I had interrupted her. The third time I went I was given a lecture on how to order my drink from the same guy that interrogated me the first time. Great place, terrible service.
Kirsten Holden
Went for a Sunday lunch and agree with some of the other reviews, very average pub grub. My husband had the venison burger and said it was disgusting, an overly powerful cheese flavor. My lamb shank pie was OK but not worth $24. Won't be returning.
Alex Manai
Just another soulless and overpriced franchise pub! <br/>Don't expect anything special or unique about this place. I visited this pub with 2 other friends after work in the hope of finding another local pub we could potentially start frequenting (already regulars at different pub up the road). Entering the establishment I really got the vibe that the staff could not be bothered being there. The staff were all standing around and we received no greeting or even a smile when we approached the bar. When we asked for a jug of ale to share between the three of us we were asked for ID (we are 29 years old). The bar girl (who must have been 19 years old) then proceeded to cross examine us and our IDs. I thought this was a pretty poor way to greet first time customers who you are trying to add to your clientele. <br/>The sign at the front the pub says Speights Ale House “Generous to a fault”. In my ingenuity I thought this might imply that the prices were lower than at other pubs. I was wrong, $29 for a jug of beer. It's simply a clichĂ© line for a pub that is trying to replicate the feel of a Southern New Zealand pub but does so poorly. The whole bar is clichĂ© really. It's filled with stereotype regalia of the NZ deep south that has a tacky feel to it. If you want a real NZ Deep South experience in Auckland just go to the Cardrona in Mt Eden (a bar with real history and story to it). <br/>We left the pub just like we entered it, no smile or good bye. <br/>Average experience won't be going back again.

Went for dinner in a party of 5. I had basic fish and chips which was very sub standard as I had it also on a visit a month ago and it was OK. The fish was pink as in uncooked and inedible. Chips and salad OK. Several other members in the group also had not great meals. Didn't complain... our fault. on a positive side the venue and staff and beer are fantastic.
Kim
Had a great lunch today. The staff were friendly and the food was delicious with generous portions. I had the calamari salad which was yummy, will definitely go back!
Chris Hagen
Had a great lunch there last weekend - I had the Vegetarian Pita which was full of flavours and very nicely presented. It was a very large serving so I went away very satisfied.<br/>Atmosphere was great and staff very friendly. Other diners around me seemed very happy with their meals. Would recommend this restaurant.

A group of eight of us enjoyed a wonderful evening 01.12.2013. Our meals were first class, the service was great and the ambience wonderful - we will definitely be returning. Our meal choices included the Sunday Night Roast, fish and chips, and bacon and lambs fry. All were attractively served and much enjoyed. All the meals coming out of the kitchen to other tables looked very appealing.

Keen to support our new 'local', our family went to the Ale House for an 18th birthday celebration. Our party included 9 adults (18-79) and 2 children (9 and 11).<br/>We ordered steak, pizzas, salmon on bagel, eggplant (the Kate Sheppard), lamb shank pie and hamburgers/fish and chips for the children. Every meal was fantastic. Hot, quick, tasty, generous servings. <br/>Drinks were all cold and we especially liked the taster tray of Speight's classics. <br/>Service excellent. And they even arranged the birthday candles on our cake most artistically.<br/>We'll be back!

Friday night out for a meal - nice place for a drink, very busy.<br/>Ordered the eye fillet steak - looked spectacular when served but had to leave most of the onion??? hash - should have been sweet potato but apparently was potato, onion and s. potato, had a strange taste and looked like it had been sitting for 24 hours. Broccolini was old florets had turned yellow. Steak should have been tender was pretty hard to cut for an eye fillet, would not recommend this dish, very average and disappointing. Will come back for a drink but will not eat. Shame

Went for lunch with 3 work mates, very attentive staff but the food was a big disappointment, typical unimaginative pub grub with a menu used in a 1000 other "same old" establishments.<br/>And I really do wish that these places would realise that a Ceaser Salad without anchovies is just a lettuce, egg &amp; cheese salad, I know a lot of people don't like anchovies but at least give the customer the choice of their inclusion in the dish.<br/>Thought the wine list was pretty average too.
Chris
Missed getting a table first night so as locals waited till 2nite 8/11/13 to enjoy having a good eatery in the area. Well - not so good, wish we had read the reviews before going as the food is truly disappointing. The word 'adequate' springs to mind but even after pointing out to the wait staff that the fish was burnt and obviously by the smell of it not fresh or even fresh frozen and not eaten we were still charged full price.<br/>Could be a real asset to the area but will need the kitchen to up the ante if this is going to happen.<br/>Waiting staff excellent
Michelle Wainhouse
Lovely new bar and restaurant, good portion sizes, great food. Lots of room but can get a bit noisy in the bar area when busy. We have been there several times now, started with a large platter that we couldn't finish. Also had one of their mussel dishes which was fabulous and real good value. My husband loves the lamb shank pie. Staff are quick, friendly and attentive. Desserts are delicious , I would highly recommend. The beer is great too.
Katie Hagen
What a wonderful place to eat! Went there today and had a great experience. Lovely friendly attentive staff, despite being really busy. Meals came out without much of a wait and we weren't disappointed. I had the chicken burger which was really tasty and so big I almost couldn't finish it. My friends also really enjoyed their meals. Great atmosphere and everyone seemed to be having a great time. Will definitely be returning!
Danielle
SO disappointing! My partner and I had a terrible experience tonight at Speights, the food was awful !!!!<br/>Our cheesy garlic pizza bread had a visible layer of grease sitting on the top, the base was soggy (so much so that there was a puddle of grease left on the board when we picked a piece up), and the chef seemed to have forgotten to add the garlic. A greasy, soggy, tasteless, doughy mess!<br/>The wedges with condiments were stuck together, tasted floury and looked like our serving came from the bottom of the packet and had been thawed prior to frying. Miserable serving of cheese and bacon to go with the miserable wedges. We were up at Speights last Saturday and the wedges were top notch- so i would love to know whats going on in the kitchen!
Sam L
Turned up on the off chance that this would be a nice place to eat, and were not disappointed in the least! The staff were really friendly and bent over backwards to help us. The food was beautiful, There was great kids food which they all loved, and all of the adults were very impressed with their starters, main meals and desserts. A lovely place to eat all round and we will definitely be going back!
Mike
Great new bar, just organised a work lunch for 16 of us. Everyone came away happy not one moan. Staff where great and the food was amazing, a few of us ordered the platters and they were great. The steak got a big thumbs up and the beer...well its beer....got drunk.<br/><br/>Would highly recommend this place, can't wait for the summer to sit out on the deck in the sun.
Traci Pleydell
We had lunch here for a friends birthday and I very nearly ate before I went after reading the bad reviews!! However, I did not and am pleased to report that I was pleasantly surprised. The chap looking after our table was friendly and attentive. Food was great, we all had something different and everyone was happy with their meals, in particular, Chowder, Pizzas and Calamari. This is a nice place and we'll be back.
Melanie Grace Ritchie
This is a really cool bar, it is quite big and has cool décor. Went with a group for lunch and the staff were friendly and quite good. The meals here are quite large so defiantly good prices on food. I was surprised the chicken burger came with battered chicken and the beer at $9 a pint is pretty standard. I had the vegetarian pita and thought it was delicious! The holumi wasn't too thick and it was cooked as well. The plum sauce that comes on the side is a very good as well.
Kylie Wirepa
Had lunch here definitely underwhelmed. I had chicken filo parcels, they were dry and horrible, salad was out of a packet without any dressing. My partner had the chicken burger was dry and no flavor. Nice staff but won't be returning.
Bette McCutcheon
Ten of us had lunch here today. Service was a little slow but our female waiter was friendly and attentive. Most of us were happy with our meals, they are very large but very good "pub" food. Two of us had the calamari salad. The calamari was excellent but the salad was not. It was limp and drenched in dressing. It tasted like it had been prepared with the dressing some hours before. The chips were great! Coffee was good. Large cappuccino cups and reasonably priced. I'll certainly be going there for dinner - looking forward to the Lambs fry.
Ian Allen
Poor service, took a long time to be served. Had to get own menu as nobody took any notice of us. $8.50 for a beer and not offered a glass. Was told I needed to start a tab as I was sitting at the wrong table. <br/><br/>One meal came out 5 minutes after the other 2. I had the Venison burger which was disgusting! No taste what so ever. Tasted very processed.<br/><br/>Very disappointing experience.
Mark
I had the Venison Burger &amp; a Porter, the beer was what you expect from a Speights Bar unfortunately the Venison was as dry &amp; tough as it possibly could be. <br/>The staff were friendly enough if a little on the young &amp; inexperienced side. There also seemed to be a disproportionate amount of very young children in the bar, far too many for our liking.<br/>As we drove away we wondered if this was what a licensed creche would be like?
Paul Hunter
Service was good .Had the fish could not eat it was quite dry should have been in a museum salad was limp chips where the worst I have ever tasted. Beer 9 dollars a glass guess I am out of touch with prices but seemed a tad dear to me .
Liza McNally
It was very busy for 5.30 on a mid-week night and it was lucky we had booked a table earlier in the afternoon. Service was friendly and efficient and the menu was good. Kids menu was also good if a little heavy on the fried food options.
Rob
Had a lovely meal here last night. We shared a lamb shank pie and seafood chowder which were both delicious and a very rich mud cake for dessert. The staff were very friendly and the atmosphere was very welcoming and relaxed.
Liz Winstone
I really enjoyed the food and beer at lunchtime here today. Attentive staff were really good.<br/><br/>Big tall windows let in huge amounts of light at the seating around the corner at the end, where tables are a nice distance from each other to allow for relaxed conversation.<br/><br/>I ate a Vegetarian Pita with grilled haloumi. I loved everything about it, except perhaps the haloumi. The mashed avocado and greens and flavours in the plump chickpea / falafel pattie, were fabulous. On the menu, the word 'haloumi' sold it for me... but in the pita itself, the haloumi was not done quite the way I like it - it was sliced too thick, not browned, and it squeaked on my teeth as I bit into it. I think less is more when it comes to haloumi. That said, I ate every bite regardless, and just made sure I poured plenty of delicious plummy-sweet-chilli-ish sauce over the haloumi to stop it squeaking on my teeth (LOL!). The rest of the concoction was fabulous. Also very good value at $16 I thought. I could easily have just eaten half a portion and been satisfied.<br/><br/>Beer was fabulous as Speights always is.<br/>The fit-out looks cool, with its rustic pioneer NZ themes.<br/>Also worth noting are the pristine new bathrooms with fresh flowers in there - nice touch!
Jeff Napier
Had drinks here on their first Friday night, place was busy, and staff did well. <br/>Came back on Tuesday night for a birthday dinner with 11 adults and 5 kids. I was worried after reading other reviews but everyone wanted to try it being local. <br/>Great service, food a excellent. I had lambs fry with wild mushrooms, silver beet and a whiskey cream sauce. Best pub meal I've had. All meals were great value and we all left happy.
Sue M
Fantastic food and drinks selection and friendly staff.<br/><br/>Sad to see people reviewing them negatively on their first night(s) open... they were pushed hard that night and told us as we walked in that the food would take a while.<br/>We were happy to wait and got a free drink in return. <br/><br/>When the food did arrive we weren't dissapointed. <br/>Have been back since to enjoy the atmosphere and the sun on the deck! Great new local.
Lynn Tonking
We were really pleased to see this pub opening in our local area so 5 of us headed down to have dinner tonight. We were unfortunately disappointed. The set up and ambience was great, the staff were very friendly and the service was good. To wait for an hour though at 6pm though was too much and then the food that came out was generally disappointing. 3 salads were very mediocre but the chips were good! The fish was also a hit. Overall felt that the chef must be really over stretched in the kitchen and has a lot to do yet to give Moa a run for its money! Won't be back for a while sadly.
John Wilkinson
Residents of Stonefields area and were so looking forward to first meal there - booked in for 7:30 pm Saturday night - but on arrival we were told that there was an 1 hour wait for even starter- not good enough - disappointing - left after a drink only - will give it another chance - so hopeful after other Speights Ale House positives - went to another pub in Ellerslie and had service and meal within 20 minutes.
Lizzi B
Cool local pub to meet friends.<br/><br/>Fantastic setting, particularly outdoors, will be lovely in summer!<br/>Extensive menu- kids choice good too. Quick service.<br/>Only disappointment was the steak - the cut, size and cooking of it . certainly not 8oz as advertised, a big strip of gristle and very over cooked making it dry/tough.
Shelly Gray
Took our family out for lunch and had a delicious lunch! Amazing calamari salad and seafood chowder and the garlic pizza bread and fries went down quickly with the kids! Good price lunches, and they have a good kids selection too. Great outdoor area, on the day we went, it was cold, but look forward to sitting on the deck with a wine.<br/>We will be back again soon!
Kirsty Wilson
John you must be rich because I found paying $17 for a cocktail (literally 100ml) extremely expensive! The food was very good but let down by the 45 minute wait.
John Farrell
Fantastic local pub, superb food, good service and not too expensive parking is easy. It is a new pub and probably ages since we have had a new pub open in the area. The decor is very 'speights' which is cool and creative
