Review Spices Thai - Mount Wellington

Great ambience and atmosphere for dinner, the food tasted great and we will probably be back! Under $130 for 6 dishes to feed 4 bellies to the max, excellent deal! Highlight: Stir fry cashew and your choice of meat and red curry Room for improvement: The spicy noodles weren't spicy at all so they could be spicier!

Very pleasant and quick and attentive service. Food tasted really good though a little lacking in portion size for the higher prices here. The interior fit out was modern and yet very calming and serene for a late-night dinner. Customer service process was efficient and tables and seating were very clean. Parking was easy to find. Support your local small business!

Wonderful host Po and friendly servers Siri Ana Pat and others. Spectacular food well worth the time and money spent. Authentic Thai, among the best in Auckland I would say.

Super friendly, attentive staff with efficient service. The restaurant is immaculate - so clean (pretty much spotless) with ample space between tables. It has a really good ambience for eating dinner, not too loud or quiet. Loved the decor and how it didn’t feel cluttered. Easy parking onsite and also underground. Lots to choose from on the menu and the prices are what you would expect for a restaurant (on the slightly higher side) but with reasonable portion sizes (we didn’t finish everything so had leftovers as well). Food came out in good time. The only thing we didn’t enjoy that much was the filling in the money bags - they were full of mixed veggies and tasted very dry, but the sweet chilli sauce did help. Overall, we left feeling very full and satisfied and would go back!

My brother recommended this restaurant, Really loved the food. Fresh with plenty of veges and fat prawns!!! Our service was helpful and prompt... Very nice. Check out the pics!

Firstly, let's start with the service - it's excellent! From the moment you walk in the door, you'll feel welcomed by the friendly and attentive staff who are always ready to assist you. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with ample space for functions and small events, making it the perfect place to celebrate special occasions with your loved ones. If you're looking for takeout, Thai on Lunn has got you covered. They offer a wide range of delicious options to choose from, ensuring there's something for everyone. I highly recommend trying their famous Pad Thai - it's absolutely delicious! I also had the pleasure of trying their deep-fried snapper, which was cooked to perfection and full of flavor. So I did both I eaten in and also ordered takeaway. Overall, Thai on Lunn is a hidden gem that deserves recognition for their fantastic food and exceptional service. It's important that we support our local businesses, and I highly recommend giving this wonderful Thai restaurant a try. So, if you're looking for a five-star dining experience, Thai on Lunn is the place to be! Maria Auckland Meadowbank

What a find! This is easily some of the best Thai food I’ve found and their $15 lunch menu is amazing. Our team of five had a great lunch with great service and would highly recommend to all, we will be back soon for sure. James Ashwin Kakapo Business Sales

We had a beautiful dinner here. The staff were friendly and the food came out pretty quickly. I got the spicy Thai Fried rice and my partner got the red curry.

Went in for a quick lunch. Reasonable prices, 13.50 for their lunch special. Not very huge portions but enough for 1 person. All dishes had the usua authentic Thai flavors that most people are used too. Nothing extraordinary about any of the dishes and could do with a little more meat. Masaman curry, chilly and basil fried rice, curry puffs and chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream was our order.

Dined in for dinner with my parents and daughter and the food was absolutely amazing and the staff were very polite and super friendly and also very attentive with efficient service .Great atmosphere and we bought our own wine and will definitely be back!

One of the restaurants along the block between McDonalds and Dunkin Donuts. They have a fair selection of items on the menu. They have lunch specials available too. Plenty of seating and the decor is similar to Spices Thai, the restaurant in the same place before them. Food is alright. Fish cakes were good as was the green curry. Interestingly you can get spaghetti with the curry instead of rice. Almost like a laksa but different. They also have deep fried ice cream which was nice. A nice place for dining.

Lovely flavors. Relaxing atmosphere being small and cozy with friendly tentative staff and kept clean. Parking can be out front or under cover.

Fresh and tasty lunch dishes. Good prompt service, although not busy. Licensed. Great bathrooms, modern & clean.

A very pleasant experience, excellent services and good food at affordable prices. A must visit hidden gem of Aucklabd.

The worst Thai I have ever had - not flavour. Tasted like the meat had been steamed, the veges also but just no flavour. We will not be going again

You can’t get better quality Thai food at a lower price. Incredibly tasty and satisfying meals for less than $15, honestly don’t think you can get any better than this 😍

Great service and good food. We had the Snapper in tamarind sauce, spare ribs, then from kid’s menu - Pad Thai and chicken wings and rice, sundae and banana fritters with ice cream for dessert. The fish and the tamarind sauce was delicious. We may order the fillet instead of the whole fish next time but can’t complain as it was great. Also, we just realised that chicken wings may not be suitable for the kid’s menu or basically for my kids unless they know how to eat with bones. The Pad Thai was tasty and sweet. If only we didn’t have to shoo flies away once in a while it would have been a great dining experience. Will still come back to try their other dishes.

This place was absolutely great!!

The food was impeccable! Hands down one of the best pad Thai’s I’ve had so far

The wait staff was really amazing! They were nice polite and mad this a great experience!

A decent selection of Kiwi-style Thai favourites for lunch. The Penang is great, as are the noodle dishes. Service is friendly and quick. If you like Thai and live nearby it's a good option. I wouldn't necessarily call it a destination restaurant if you don't live nearby, but I'll certainly go back.

We dined here as a group of four on Saturday 24 June 17, as we have done several times in past years. I ordered the golden prawns entree shared between my wife and I and I give them good marks for that dish. However my Massuman lanb curry was less satisfactory, quite bland and lacking in a real Thai curry flavour. Also the meat chunks were large and seemed to have just been pulled apart by hand rather than sliced which I prefer. Others at the table were more satisfied with their main dish choices. The decor is interesting for a Thai restaurant, more suited to a modern European style establishment as it has very little if any Asian emphasis. Service was polite and efficient however the restaurant had few diners as the time clashed with the All Blacks vs Lions game. A place to return to occasionally but not regularly.

The lunn avenue spot has my fave so far, green curry , love the flavour , nice place for a nice lunch with family or friends .☺ It's worth a visit .

Went for lunch today with the extended family including 2 young toddlers. Service was poor, took a long time before our orders are taken. After orders are taken, waited a really long time for our food to come. Table next to us came 15 minutes after us, by the time our food came they already finished eating, that's how long the wait was. Wait staff also got our orders mixed up.

Manager was not helpful despite us voicing our dissatisfaction. Will not be back again.
Chicken Wing
Nice little place for lunch. I usually order the Black and Beauty $13.50 lunch special which comes with rice and two spring rolls. It had chicken (originally pork on the menu), and stir fried vegetables in oyster sauce. The meat seems alright, kinda flavorless (the only flavour being from the oyster sauce) but its tender enough. Some of the raw vegetables on the side seem a little dodgy but the stir fried ones are quite nice. Service is ok, not super friendly but professional enough. Price is reasonable for such a large portion. I'm sure there are better Thai places in Auckland but this is still a nice place for a relaxing lunch.

Beautiful Thai curries! My first time trying Thai food was in this restaurant. Nice atmosphere, decent price and friendly staff, who helped with choosing gluten free option too.

bad customer service was very rude and unprofessional. We walked in and were greeted with a we're closed without even a sorry. Very unfortunate.
Natasha Kumar
Been here a few times. Really enjoy the food and the customer service as well. Tried several dishes (mostly Chicken) and they were great! I would recommend this place !

Great service. My coworkers and I are regulars and they always recognise us. Quick service and yum food! Have not been for dinner but I'm sure the food is as great as lunch!

AWESOME FOOD!!!!! We were greeted with friendly staff when we visited on Thursday evening. Ordered a mixed entrée (which i only remembered to take a photo of after we were halfway through it), fried snapper with tamarind sauce, and elegant ocean queen (prawns).

The snapper was fresh and the sauce was DELICIOUS! We ordered the fillets so didn't have the problem of removing bones. Im not an advocate of eating too much rice but i had to restraint myself from eating extra rice because the sauce was THAT great!!

The prawns have a nice earthy and smoky taste and they are big and juicy. It has just the right amount of sauce to make the whole dish perfect with rice. There are enough cabbage in both dishes that allow us to finish up the sauce without eating too much rice. Its definitely one of my favourite meals ever!

We ended the night with the caramel pudding. Wasn't sure what to expect- we thought its gonna be like mango pudding but it turns out to be a dense sticky cake (which is not very sweet), topped with sweet warm caramel sauce, and served with vanilla ice cream. The whole combination of the cake, the sauce and the ice cream is a delight and a nice way to finish off our dinner.

One negative that we have is that the price is slightly on the steep end and they charge $2.50 per person for rice which i kinda find it ridiculous. Given the amt we paid for the main course, i would have expected the rice to be free.

Would definitely go back again, although i wouldn't go back too often unless they lower their price 😂 a definite must-try IMO.

One of the better Thai restaurants in the eastern suburbs. The satay chicken is a wonderful starter. Personally there are many good choices on the menu but my favourite is the Pad Khing (aka Ginger beef) always excellent. Give them a try

Located on Lunn ave this place is easy to find with plenty of parking. The restaurant is clean and well setup for couples or large groups. The staff are very polite and attentive.

We ordered the Panang curry and the Pad mee prik-poaw. The dishes were well portioned and reasonably priced for $13.50 (lunch special). Loved the presentation of them on traditional looking plates. If you like your curries with a bit of spice I'd recommend the Panang as it has a nice punch to it. You can also requests for the curries dishes to be less sweet if that's how you prefer it.

If your planning to dine here i'd definitely recommend going for lunch as the meals are better value for money and the dinner menu is a little pricey.

Coming from Sydney, where you can find a Thai restaurant on every corner, I must say that this place is rather disappointing. Prices are too high for the quality/quantity of food.
I believe that my spring rolls were supermarket frozen ones, definitely not made in house. Curry dish was ok, but only just average with veg that seems to be from a frozen packet. The whole experience was not authentic and felt more like a food court rather than restaurant quality.

I will not be returning to this place, as I was rather disappointed with the quality and shocked by prices.
Yoyo
Average food. Nothing to get excited by. Had the green curry, fried tofu and beef salad. What really put us off was the service. The waitress looked like she didn't want to be there.
Pad Thai was alright. Nothing great. Asked for medium and got pretty hot. Could count the pieces of chicken on my hand. Service was okay. Probably won't come again unless I was really hungry
STRADS
We had lunch specials at Spices Thai. I had Pad Thai with chicken & my wife had "Jubilation" (beef with rice). Both came with 2 pieces of veggie spring rolls. Side veggie salad was dry & both chicken & beef were tough.
(Food - 2/5; Services - 3.5/5; Ambience - 3.5/5)

I really enjoy Thai food here. It has been consistently good and portions are very generous. We've never had bad service here and we have been here plenty. Curry puffs are always delish and my favorite panaag curry is my usual order.

We have been to this place few times and they have always been consistent with top notch customer service. I loved the whole fish With tamarind sauce and their stuffed chicken wings. Would reccomend to anyone who like Thai food and their hospitality.

My family with my friends went to this restaurant last night. It tastes good, however right after the meal, we found that we found extremely thirsty, my thirstiness even last till next day. I understood most of Asian restaurant use MSG on dishes. I believe that they put so much MSG because of the quality of meat was not good. My husband was sensitive on poor quality of meat, he had diarrhea on next day. I would never go back again as particular with my kids. Not good for health.

Sadly for this redturaunt the only thing of note here is the massaman lamb and the duck panang or delight red gold.

The rest, including the pad thai and the stir fries, seem to be lacking in flavour. Not bland, but not inspiring. They also push the evelope on spiciness at times.

Very accomadating to specific dietary requirements, and while not hard, they're good with tofu dishes- though a bit light on the tofu and veggies.

Always quick for takeaways, but like i said, a bit bland. Lacking.

Very nice Thai food joint. We ordered #PadThai Noodles, #Penang Chicken and #GoldenPrawn Fried. Lovely food and quantity, very friendly staff and the location is also convenient with ample parking. If you love Thai, check this place out.

This place has been part of the LA strip (lunn Ave ) since construction. It hasn't changed. Everytime I eat here its quick staple and no frills. Service is ok but not super but this is family dining not fine dining. Decor along the thai theme is modestly ok but the building structure doesnt help being so generic characterless and more atuned to a hollywood bakery. I think over the years they have maintained a consistently good standard of food serving the work precinct for lunches.
Parking can be hard at nights with the close by pub.
Got a pad thai with chicken. More than enough for one person. Good standard compared to every pad thai meal as I always order a pad thai. 3/5
Couldn't resist my usual spring roll bench test. I found these cooked perfectly really crisp and not a bad taste. 5/5

Only ever had takeaway from here, place looks unappealing to be honest, but the food has always been great. Delicious Penang curry, really tasty satay sauce, nice lycée curry. It is expensive mind..

We were Looking for a good Chinese restaurant around Glen Innes Mt Wellington Kohi StHeliers but nothing exists. Went here while walking around .
Table set out is not attractive - like a train. Food was tasty but over priced and too much inedible garnish.
Worst feature was the big sliding entry door that let in freezing air every time it opened - was cold for whole meal. Won't bother going back
Emily
I had the pineapple fried rice which was delicious (my friends also enjoyed their meals) and the staff was lovely. Overall an amazing dinner!

Flat food no salt no flavours
Ordered Spicy chicken Fried Rice had RAW CHICKEN IN IT
I AM DISGUSTED
SHOULD RAISE THE STANDARD OF THE FOOD AND ADD SOME FLAVOURS.

Been here a few times and the food has always been good. Service is pleasant and the ambience is also nice. I usually play it safe with a Pad Thai because my friends give mixed reviews for the other dishes.

Was looking for the Indian restaurant next door but mistakenly went into this Thai place •_•
Hmm, the food was just so so. Everything was just so so..... That's all, thank you.

Ordered from Lunch menu special, food was terrible !! Spicy noodles had no fresh ingredients and was largely made up of cooked cabbage ?? Would expect this in a cheap Chinese takeaway not a Thai Restaurant. My friend had a chicken vegetable dish with an array of vegetables clearly past their use by date and scattered with chilli flakes! Don't eat here, it's a complete rip off and in no way a real Thai experience.

Restaurant empty on a nice Thursday night but we tried it. The four of us ordered and the Thai fish cakes and chicken Satays had clearly been frozen and microwaved. We asked the waitress and yes they were frozen and microwaved. Both were like rubber. The sizzling beef main was like broiled beef. Really disappointing and won't be back. Such a shame as it's expensive and am not sure they will survive with no customers. The Japanese next door was fully booked. Now we know why. Bummer!
Jay
Only enjoyed the curry there, but portions are too small for the expensive price. Rice is nice, authentic Jasmine rice from Thailand, which we enjoyed. However the salad tasted nothing like what it should be - not sure what happened, and the soup was way too salty to stomach. Had to ask for a glass of hot water to water it down! Won't be coming back...
Charlotte Mara
Had the pad thai for takeaway. Standard was not up to the price. Greasy and not much flavour. I've had better pad thai for $13.

Went for the first time last night with a group of my girl friends and I had made a reservation for 7pm. Got there and the waitress had not written down my reservation and then was extremely rude to me about it.
The restaurant was not busy though so we eventually were seated. About 20 minutes later our orders were taken and about a good hour and a half later (if not more) our food was served.
I asked for no capsicum and was served extra capsicum, my friend asked for mild and was served hot. The waitress was rude throughout the meal as well.
Apart from that the food was good, but based on my experience I would really not recommend it.

I am yet to find another Green Curry Chicken that matches theirs. I always get Take Away and it may be more expensive than most other places but it is defintely worth it!!!
The staff are always very friendly.

I've been here for both lunch & dinner...I recommend it. Love the curry puffs and money pockets...pad thai is good if you have a sweet tooth then try the deep fried ice cream. Staff are friendly and attentive.
Lea Collins
Loved the decor, service was fast and friendly. We enjoyed the pad thai and herb and spices, both tasty dishes. Great for a tasty and quick lunch.
Hayden
Cheap and cheerful
I thoroughly enjoyed my meal (favourite- pad thai noodle) and I loved the live cultural performance. Highly recommend and I ll be back again soon.
Adeline
Good place for a quick and tasty lunch. Nice decor, feels a bit flash... so prices are not cheap as.

We were recommended by family to visit this local restaurant so last Friday we made a booking for 3 at 7pm. We arrived on time however we had to wait approx. 35mins before our orders were taken. It seem that there was one large group of people being catered for and we were wondering if they didn't have enough waitresses on the night. Fortunately our drinks and entrees arrived swiftly but that was the last we saw of any food or service until an hour plus later when I asked why our mains of 3 curries and a vegatable dish hadn't arrived. We were finally served around 8:30ish - 1 1/2hrs after we had arrived. It was clear they had prioritised their service to one party because we also noticed perplexed looks from some diners who were also waiting. And please note, the restaurant was not full.

Quite dissappointing - will not return.
Sumitha
Extremely disappointing to say the least. I ordered Grilled Spare ribs on a friday evening after a bad day at work, hoping that this would be my one chance to feel good that day. The dish was called' wings of heaven ' or something...it turned out to be smelly underarms from hell. I had asked them to make my dish very spicy. it was a takeaway. When I reached home, I found that it was more like steamed or boiled spare ribs-with pineapple juice thrown over it!! it also tasted old and had a funny rancid taste like old oil..it was horrible!! If the owner is reading this - please dont cheat your customers - they will never come back
Rachel Candy Li
We went there for a Friday night without booking, the staff asked us to wait - there are heaps empty seats there at the time, she gave us a corner seat which is very small. It took her a while to come to take our order - we didn't know we need to order rice separately as it didn't say in the menu, we have to ask and she didn't understand - guess she is Thai didn't understand English. Took her a while to figure out what we want and we have been waiting for a while to get our meal served. It was OK but we were let down by the service, don't think we would come back only if we have to. However, the deco is nice.
Aidan
I've been a few times and made good use of my entertainment book discount. I've enjoyed each occasion, and will definately be returning. The staff are very attentive, the wait on food is short and quality of the food is reasonably good (we have ordered green curry chicken, red curry chicken, pad thai, and chicken basil and chilli in the past). It is a very clean and tidy atmosphere, though not very up market if that is what you are looking for. For that you need to go to the Red Elephant in Newmarket.

I dined there with my partner on Easter Monday. I hesitated to go after reading a few negative reviews, but as they didn't have a holiday surcharge and we had a 25% off voucher we decided to give it a go.
It was a nice surprise. The weather was very miserable, it rained non stop, but inside was nice and cosy. The food was nice. We have ordered a mixed entree. I did eat a better chicken satay before, but the spring roll, the curry puff and the chicken wing were very nice. Then my partner had Tom Yum Gai soup and he said it was the best Thai soup he has ever had. I tried a little bit and it was delicious. For main we had Enlightment (beef). I asked for this to be spicy, as I thought if I don't ask we will get it mild, and believe me, they made it hot. The meat was nice and soft.
The service was a bit slow, maybe because one lady served all the tables (60% occupied), but luckily we were not in a hurry. The building is new and they have very nice bathroom facilities. All together I have been to better Thai restaurants, but it was a better experience than we expected.
Lillian
Good lunch special - $13 from a decent selection and includes a small entrees. However food was very average and the service was not great. I wouldn't recommend it unless you live nearby. Probably would not go back.
Yvette
I have given this place a couple of chances (went there when it first opened, so thought it deserved a second chance), and I have to say this is probably one of the worst places I have eaten Thai. Each time very disappointing. Would not go back.
Lisa
I haven't personally eaten at Spices Thai but have been told it is very good. The reason I'm giving them 5 stars is because recently I rang from Sydney to organise a dinner voucher for my sister who'd just had her first baby. The manager and staff at the restaurant were most helpful and even went out of their way to deliver the vouchers and arrange a card to go with them. First class service. Thank you Spices Thai.
Me
We have been to this restaurant regularly and the food is always very good. Ingredients always seem very fresh and tasty. Make sure you ask them to 'spice' it up (for those who like it hot)!
Sunsetkiss27
Food was good and arrived on time. Service was good except the waitress was in a hurry to take our orders though it wasnt that busy. Other than that, the Ambience was great. Parking was convenient.
