Review Columbus Coffee - Sylvia Park - Mount Wellington

I love coming here for breakfast in the weekend Rob is an amazing barista and does the best lattes, and goes above and beyond for customer service, the supreme omelette is really good and cabinet food always looks fresh and tasty

Lots of seating, quick friendly service, yum food, nice music

I was pleasantly surprised. Haven't been to Columbus in a while and their coffee was really nice! I prefer it to their big competitor to be honest. Ordered a BLAT sandwich and it was yum, can't complain. It's location is a bit far away from the busyness of the mall, which is actually why we went there. There wasn't a lot of cabinet choices for my vege friend though.

It's my favourite cafe at Sylvia Park (least likeable is Coffee Club). We are always welcomed by friendly staff here, what's even better is this delicious keto cheese cake, every cafe should have sugar free option in their cabinet. Cheers to this lovely store!

Friendly staff, good coffee, I had cappuccino and the hazelnut cronut. This outlet is spacious with seats inside and also outside if you prefer.

Got a ice Americano and tasted good. Just the right amount of ice. Kept me going while my kids played at the playground. This place was packed. But the service was efficient. Service: 4/5 Drink Quality: 4/5 Drink Quantity: 4/5 Presentation: 4/5 Environment: 4/5 Price per person: $5-$20

Friendly staff big bonus for me and my kids is the park across the way close enough to watch them while you eat food is scrumptious not to extravagantly expensive but worth every cent the eggs Benedict is the right amount of ingredients eggs are runny but firm bacon is cooked perfectly hot chocolate is the right amount of heat and coffees are not too bitter perfectly roasted well-deserved heavenly spot for sanctuary if you need to regroup and let the kids play it’s one of my favourites Coffee spots in Sylvia park

First stop over for a feed since arriving in beautiful Auckland - so pretty ravenous! Cute corner in the shopping centre so parking is not an issue. Prices are a little steep for ordinary breakfast options. Big brekkie (Columbus breakfast) was $22 - I’ve seen the same amount for cheaper locally. Alas, cute deco, bumping playlist and chill workers :) Sparkling water and normal water on tap which is pretty luxe. Service is “sweet as” everyone is very friendly but what do you expect from Kiwis. Wouldn’t mind popping in again for a spicy Chai latte but perhaps not food.

Lovely environment (very kids-friendly, the playground was next to it) and great foods, the most generous omelette I ever seen! If you are having trouble to find the shop, it is opposite the The Baby Factory. Photos speak louder then words ;)

We love the food at Columbus. Sadly one of 3 X eggs on toast ordered was entirely incorrect 🤪

We had a small wedding here! Worked very well for a cozy wedding with a few close friends and family. The team were super helpful hosts and everything went really smoothly. Thanks for the cosy atmosphere, the food and the memories ❤️

Recently visited this coffee spot in Sylvia park and the coffee and food made our day. The staff and service both were very good 👍

Great place for a coffee and for a small bite. It is usually busy during afternoon as lot of people do visit the place from nearby offices. Suitable for small groups or family. Not very friendly to work on laptops though. Plenty of place to seat and outdoor seating is available too. Plenty of options for tea, coffee and small plates for breakfast and lunch.

July 2023 We chose this location again for its central location. On this occasion we may have pushed the limits on our expectations as all 28 people in our group gathered between 10.30am and midday. Overall the place was clean an tidy and the staff were pleasant. Will continue to return in smaller groups. August 2022 Have been visiting this particular Columbus Coffee cafe for several years. The reason being it can accommodate groups of friends (14 to 16 people) without any prior warning. The food and facilities have always been excellent and over time there is evidence of continual improvements to raise the customer satisfaction. This cafe has excellent outdoor facilties to relax and enjoy your coffee.

A very popular cafe at Sylvia Park; even though it’s at the far end of the mall. Great for coffee catch ups, breakfast for one or lunch with the kids.

Good vibe. Good cafe.

Went into this store for a coffee today. Just a coffee. First off the staff were complaining about wanting to go home. There was a huge line of people wanting to buy food and drinks and this idiot was complaining. Second there was a huge amount of food safety issues. Dirty dishes piling up on a food prep area, and the barista cleaned tables then went to prepare food without washing his hands! This is just disgusting. He also cleaned tables while people were still eating forcing them to lift their plates while still eating so he could clean under them. The milk jugs had also not been washed in ages either. And Cream was left out of the fridge in the sun for a good ten mintues.
Thankfully the coffee was ok, but everything else was just a nightmare.

Ordered a carrot cake and a banana cake which were both delicious. The cream cheese filling inside the banana cake was a pleasant surprise! The carrot cake was moist and the walnut pieces always makes a classic combination with cream cheese icing! Paired well with a trim flat white. My sister had a hot chocolate which she enjoyed. Will be trying more of the menu in the nearer future.

I had the shakshuka with one of their banana spinach blended smoothies. It was expensive. I wish they had more flavors..it tasted like someone opened a can of tomato puree and added an egg on it..the cutlery at the water station needed a good wash as I could see lipstick smudges on one of the glasses

Love the location of this cafe but food was a let down 😞. The highlight were the vanilla and mango smoothies which I didn't get a photo of.

We don’t usually leave a reviews, especially a negative one but this Sylvia park Columbus always shocks me with the terrible service they give. No hi, no please no thank you. Always feels like we bother them. Plenty of people wanting to work, if you hate your job leave. Easy as that.

Update on 2 Sep 2018:

Had our light lunch and coffee here today. This place was packed with customers today.

We had chicken filo, almond & blueberry tart, and flatwhites. Both the chicken filo and almond & blueberry tart were good. The flatwhites were as aromatic and awesome as usual.

👍👍👍

My previous comments:

Having coffee at this store now. Have been here numerous times, love their coffee.

The flat whites are very lovely with aromatic coffee smell and nice coffee taste. Their coffees are certainly above average.

Very nice and cosy ambience. The place is pretty clean, neat and tidy. I like the self service water dispenser, you can see how it looks like in the photos I attached. It is clean and there are two options, still and sparkling water.

The staff are very friendly and polite.

The cabinet foods look very appealing, clean, organised and presentable, much better than a lot of other cafes. Will try their cabinet foods next time.

Food & Beverage : 8/10
Service : 8/10
Price : 6/10
Ambience : 9/10

Seriously one of the worst breakfasts I have experienced. Ordered the Columbus version of a big breakfast, everything seemed to be pre-prepared, scrambled eggs of the Subway variety and a mushroom that looked like a large fried kidney, and bacon like cardboard. Environment was ok !

Very pleasant environment, service is above average, food was very filling, though quite bland like most cafe foods. Albeit last but not least the coffee was superb!

Really good coffee. Not overly impressed with the Paleo breakfast. For $20 it didn't have enough on the plate. That aside, the eggs were overdone and just a handful of greens with 3 mushrooms. My friend had steak sandwich and french toast and they enjoyed it.

The times I've been here have been ok, small space when busy and raining as they can't really have the outside area open so would be nice if they could make a more permanent setting for rainy days similar to what garrisons have. Coffee and scones are nice breakfast can be sometimes as well but overall not a bad cafe in the mall

Disappointing experience. Very polite staff but the food is very very disappointing. I had a veg frittata. Which had egg.now I would be careful calling it a veggie frittata if it's got egg in it. The frittata was dry. Stale and lacked any flavour for an$8.50 piece. It was the size of a muffin or even smaller dare I say. They also forgot ng coffee order. The redeeming factor was the coffee. That pulled it from a one star rating to 3. Possibly even higher cause it was just perfect temperature texture. Loved it. Sadly the food was a let down.

I called in here on Monday for a coffee whilst out shopping. This cafe is usually very good, but not so this time. I tried 3 tables before I could find a clean one, there was crumbs on every seat and on the floor. I will return again, hoping that this was a one off. Also might I add it wasn’t busy.

I'm quite surprised why this cafe is low rated when this actually exceeded my expectations. We enjoyed the hot chocolate and flat white, both quality and quantity wise, i enjoyed the cranberry panini. Customer service was really good and the place was very crowded, so not sure why this is rated 2.5 when it deserves atleast 4 star rating

Worst cafe in Auckland.

Poached eggs were hard boiled, extra avacadonwas unripe and unable to be cut it was that hard.

Told kids drinks were on a specific shelf in the fridge but that shelf had mixed into it other drinks.

Small change to the menu (swap kids drink for frapee) was to hard.

We will NEVER be back

Some people working in there, have a lil bit of customer service, while a big white guy, wearing glasses was ridiculously rude!!! Like, he saw me standing in front of the counter, and he looked at me and walked away, and while in the kitchen the other staff told him, there’s a customer waiting to be served, and he just said whatever... and didn’t come out kept me waiting until another staff, came outside and asked me if i was “alright” and when i said what’s the guy’s problem he said im sorry but he’s just finishing his shift and he has to go... after that, the guy came out from the kitchen again, and took something from the blender and gave the other customer, and by the time to “serve” my coffee, he almost dropped it on me in a freaking rude way. Will never be back there again! Poor customer service, expensive food and really poor service.

We tried Smoked Salmon roulade and ham and cheese croissant from their cabinet menu, chai latte and flat white. The roulade was a little undercooked while the croissant, chai latte and flat white were just ok. Service is fair, considering the croissant has to be heated up. I guess the food could be better.

Although this outlet is at 1 end of the shopping mall, still plenty of patrons. Almost full house. Ordered Large Chicken Pasta Salad and Vienna quickly. Food and drink came out fast. Board menu not huge. Food average. 1 curious is why they used long spoon for a small cup. Also water stain. Service ok.
Delicious Columbus breakfast and flat white. We was greeted politely when we walked In and food arrived within 15. I m happy with what I get. Will visit again.

We were eager to have lunch at PappaRich , but it wasn't open until June. So we visited Columbus instead. Steak sandwich was tough (as expected), but was not at all bad. French toast with bacon, banana & maple syrup; it was nice - definitely better than a 2.5 rating. Coffees were OK.
P.S. We had a Nitro Cow Gelato after lunch & it was special. Fortunately it wasn't listed as it is a sort of food truck.

Some staff provide great customer service and makes you feel welcome and some just don't care. Price is reasonable. Coffee and hot chocolate's taste differs depending on which barrister makes it. Should definitely improve staff on customer service and improved barristers.

I was disappointed with the cabinet menu especially comparing it with the Manukau Super Centre one.

Because the cabinet menu selection was so small I ordered from the menu instead. Their eggs Benedict was ok. You're usual eggs Benedict. Good amount of hollandaise and eggs were poached nicely.

Service was friendly. Hot chocolate was ok.

Stopping off for a bite to eat mid-shopping Columbus was the closest. It was quite busy but we managed to get a table inside.
They mainly have pre-made cabinet food but also have a menu. We weren't very hungry so decided to order from the cabinet. We tried the chicken pasta - small is $6.00, so although it doesn't have much chicken (mostly pasta), it's quite reasonably priced. Flavour was good with some mustard & capsicum. Also the potato & bacon salad, again mostly potato. We also had the scone which was quite dry but okay warm with butter. And the carrot cake - very dry end, but the middle was nice. All our coffees were good.
Wouldn't go here as a destination as the quality is quite basic, but would visit if down that end of the mall & hungry.

Had a brunch with sister and daughter couple weeks back (I've been slack) I had prawn tacos- delish and refreshing ! And pumpkin and kumara soup! Delish! Coffee however was a let down! My soy latte lacked in the soy department ! Maybe it was my beer from the night before still on my taste buds 😂🍻 any hoots bit cramped in there, and the drinking glasses for water needs a serious upgrade! All in all an O.K brunch! Would I return...yes but in no hurry too.

Very disappointing experience from this place today. Went there with a group of friends for a catch up. I ordered a small trim flatewhite while my friends ordered other drinks. All my friends drinks got served except for mine. When a drink finally arrived I was told that was a regular flatwhite. Thinking they got their order mixed up, I kindly told the lady I ordered a trim one.

She didn't acknowledged and walked away with a coffee. 10 minutes later, still no signs of my coffee. I queried that with another staff and she apologised and said will be coming shortly. Another 10 minutes gone pass, when all my friends finished all their drinks. Still no signs of my coffee. I asked again with another staff. This time, I was told rudely that my coffee was served but I didn't acknowledged it was my order!!! The woman then walked away before I finished talking and with here annoyed high volume voice yelling "where is that flatwhite i brought out?!" When my coffee finally came out, I was served a large one instead of a small size I ordered (in the courtesy of the inconvenience I experienced).

However I DID NOT WANT A LARGE COFFEE!! If I did, I would have ordered a large one. A lot of people would think it's a bonus that i got upgraded to a large size. However there're lots of reasons why people don't order large size drinks. eg. for the taste and for dietary reasons! It's now 30 minutes on, I was made embarrassed in front of my friends. You guys stuffed up my order 3 TIMES and yet you trying to make it my problem? How hard is it to make a small trim flatwhite?? it's not like I ordered something obscured or being difficult! THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME I HAD MY ORDER MIXED UP AND SERVED THE WRONG DRINK FROM THIS PLACE.

I didn't enjoy my experience here at al! As a result of that, I don't think I will be back to this place anytime soon. AND I would not recommend this place to anyone base on the attitude of the staff and the risk of not getting your order right!

l love this café but the only thing is they should provide more variety of foods l just found they don't have that much choices. And there is a young girl l found her a bit slow and she couldn't even do simple mathematics. She told me the foods that l order is $10.70 and l gave her $20.70 THAN she was so confused how much she needed to give me back l had to tell her just $10. SIMPLE MATHS CAN'T EVEN DO SAD

Went here for the first time with my sister and niece for a bite to eat while doing some shopping.
Really busy cafe that is cramped but not like any other cafe at Sylvia Park.
Even though it is highly patronised and busy I must say the service was friendly and efficient however because it is busy I feel they should wipe table tops down and have chilled water and CLEAN glasses available ALL the time! More effort needed here!
My sister had PrawnTacos and Pumpkin and Kumara soup. Which looked and must say tasted awesome! Her Soy Latte however did not taste of soy !
My niece had the Columbus breakfast with Avocado and Iced Mocha and must say a Let down. Potato Rosti is pre-made and does not taste fresh at all. A little sparse with the mushrooms and the bacon was NOT crispy! Good ingredients but NOT prepared well all. Iced mocha she felt was no where near as good as Starbucks so really not a great cafe experience for her.
I had a cheese and spinach omelet with salad presented well and seasoned well. But a little pricey at $18. Flat white however was great🙂
So mixed review- the service is good , the ambience is not great and a little pricey. Would not make a special trip to dine here again but would if you need coffee and your hungry and the Mall toilets are really close by LOL😆Recommend Prawn Tacos, Pumpkin soup and the Flat White

We ate big coffee lovers & we had Flat white & Latte here with a pasteriee. Honestly I don't remember the name but it was of chocolate base. Pasteriee was yum & perfect in taste. We loved it.
Flat white was soothing to drink just like the way it should be. I had Latte & I felt like thr was lil difference in the taste of coffee. But overall we had good experience.
They have indoor & outdoor seating. It was nice sunny day so v enjoyed outdoor seating. It was lively.

This Columbus outlet has two seating areas - inside and outside. Both are really nice. Food/beverages are overall good - need to be fresher. Staff is friendly and service standards are high. Overall, a cool place. Will go again.

Called in for a bite to eat - never again!
I ordered a Bacon & Egg pie from the cabinet Mr ordered from the board & came out 10-15 minutes after mine. My meal came out radio active from the microwave so needless to say was soggy aswell. Such a shame as the staff were so lovely.
