Review Butlers Chocolate Cafe - Mount Wellington

I saw this store and had to go in and check it out A intimate cosy cafe A few tables availableto sit and enjoy your orders.. I liked the chocolate gift 🎁 choices .. amazing for the chocolate lover's. The lemon coconut đŸ„„ muffin 😋 was delicious and the signature Sunday 😋 Staff was great even explaining the different types of chocolate. They serve coffee and tea with milk shakes and sundaes 🍹 etc. Most definitely will be coming back for some more treats

While shopping at Sylvia Park I called into Butlers Chocolate Cafe. I had a wonderful piece of carrot cake, washed down with a delightful long black. I was pleasantly surprised to select a complimentary chocolate and I chose the chilli đŸŒ¶ïž chocolate. Which was surprisingly spicy and very delicious. Because the popular cafe was so busy, seating was at a premium. I invited a wonderful couple to share my table and we had a wonderful conversation which added to the experience. Will definitely return.

Loved all the chocolate flavors I tried, specially the one with coconut. Thanks to Emily for the suggestions. Great food and friendly service. Amazing!

Had a lovely cup of flat white while enjoying my afternoon session of Animal Crossing. The coffee was perfect and for the price you still get a choice of a piece of chocolate, compliment of the cafe. The cafe is very clean and the staff is friendly and helpful. Highly recommended!

As a coffee lover~ coffee is definitely thumbs up! As for Chocolate mousse~ mmm~~~melts in the mouth. Chocolate and coffee, good match (sorry about pic always forget take it before.)

Portion sizes look suspiciously small, but the food is so decadent and rich that you won't end up finishing whatever you order, to be honest. Chocolate lava cake is a must have, as are their small delectable bite sized chocolates. The milkshakes were also good!
Christina
Strong coffee but with a piece of exquisite chocolate, it was fantastic
csibpip
Coffee was ok but not especially good to be honest. The chocolate we had was tasty
Odette Sassman
Haven't been to this place in a while. Their hot chocolate was good. The chocolate mousse cake was yum. We even got to choose 3 chocolates for us. Was yum all around.
Imran Mohamed
They’ve got a good dark hot chocolate. Nice selection of Chocolates too.

Nice chocolates, make sure u try the chillie chocolate...its weirdly nice... Chocolates are less Sugary 6 for $12 is real deal.. U get a free chocolate with every coffee too..

The chocolates are so yummy. Took milkshake and chocolate and ice cream. Just lovely. Go for dessert

This cafe has been on my frequent list for a while now. They specials and every other hot chocolate flavor is delicious. But I feel all of them have been super sweet off lately (even the no additional sugar ones) making it a bit hard to have much of anything else.Their desserts are decadent and amazing, I am yet to find one that I don't like. But the best of them all are their chocolates and I love trying new flavors each time I visit.
Natasha
Looks like some yum chocolate waffles....nope it’s just burnt and crunchy. They even put chocolate sauce under the waffles to try and play if off. Not the best wouldn’t recommend spending $15.90 on those again..
Ella
Its ok but a little bit pricey. Coffee orders comes with a small chocolate. Well, I order mocha but I don’t really need the chocolate

Went here before this pandemic started, spent nice afternoon with a glass of ice dark chocolate and nice chocolate. Love their place and their chocolate.

Mum and I came to Butler’s for a cup of coffee after doing a bit of shopping. I got the almond milk flat white and she got the regular milk flat white. What I really like about Butler’s is that the chocolate comes with the coffee so overall, it’s an absolute deal. We tried the Irish bailey’s cream chocolate and the coffee chocolate and honestly, it wasn’t that amazing. The coffee chocolate didn’t have a strong coffee flavour (could be because we were drinking coffee lol) but the baileys chocolate was alright. The coffee here is pretty good, super strong and rich in coffee bean flavour! The man who was at the counter was kind too! He recommended chocolate to us.
Renie
The tiramisu was good but the chocolate cake was average. Overall nice cafe in the Sylvia Park Mall. Good to satisfy the sweet tooth.

This place is really great and all. What put me off was we were going in to buy my son some choco treats. As we were picking which chocolates we wanted, we noticed a fly siting on them. I thought these products were covered from the back-side with a sliding door or cover, but there not. Like I said the cafe is great and all, but that is a real put off. Wont be going there again

We had waffles w/ ice-cream, chocolate and bananas. They charged an extra $3 for the bananas which was only a quarter of a banana. The waffles were OK, nothing great. Coffee was absolutely rubbish. Tasted like I was drinking very watery milk, burnt coffee and burnt chocolate. Very overpriced. Won't be going there again.
Arianaaa
Best chocolate milkshake in the area! They use actual chocolate ice cream for the shake and it’s so thick and rich too. Always drink it there cos it’s definitely more worth it

We went to the Lambton Quay branch in Wellington which is not available for review (at the time of writing). We discovered it after walking around the city to look for a warm place stay while waiting for the rain to subside. Their drinks are very affordable and each drink comes with a piece of chocolate you get to choose. Their chocolate cheesecake mousse is also very tasty and not too sweet!
CrazyCatLady_EmmaC
Lovely chocolate and cakes, coffee were alright. The table we had were wonky and the service was slow. They do have good variety of chocolate gifts which is great for many occasions.

I got the Signature Waffles - it was very average compared to other waffles I’ve tried. The chocolate sauce isn’t very sweet but also not tasty. I would have preferred a drizzled chocolate sauce. The ice cream definitely made it so much better and gave the right balance of hot and cold.

I paired it with their Mango Iced Tea which is mango syrup mixed with tea - it was very sweet but surprisingly still matched the waffles.

Our orders also come with a complementary chocolate which was very nice - I got the almond!

Bougie. Beautiful sweet treats on display, fell in love on the spot. My hot chocolate was amazingly melted chocolatey milky goodness, with a complimentary chocolate that was to die for. A date scone to keep it real. Light and perfect. Tables were clean, staff were nice. Thank you!

Saw the pictures and thought the waffles looked delicious. Upon entering the store the staff did not greet us- the store only had 1 customer. Ordered the signature waffle and was very disappointed. Looked flat, not nice and fluffy/crunchy like the photos. The ice cream was on top of the waffle making it soggy. Maybe the person making the waffle wasn’t as experienced? Not sure! As other reviewers have posted nice looking waffles. I just think if you don’t know how to make waffles.. just tell the customer you don’t so we don’t feel disappointed and can order something else.
Coffeequeen
Bought a regular Mocha, which was so good, chocolatey and milky. Cute and fancy looking takeaway cup. Think they give a free chocolate piece with their coffees, which was pretty cool.

Many kinds of chocolate u can choose. also have chocolate drinks and chocolate cakes. Bigger space than Starbucks. Good to talk with friends.

Had some very average dessert here today. The ice cream sundaes arrived and were mainly melted. Was like eating soup. The flavours were basic and tasted like no real effort had been put into it at all. When we arrived I asked the lady behind the counter if they had a menu to look at, without saying anything she just pointed to a pile a few feet away from her. The man serving was nice enough.

My partner and I were both craving a sweet fix so we decided to stop in at Butlers in Sylvia Park Shopping Mall. We ordered two signature hot chocolates which came with a complimentary little chocolate each, signature waffles with bananas (swapped chocolate sauce for maple syrup) and a chocolate lava cake which came to a whopping total of $36.

Our food came out quickly - the hot chocolates are thick and creamy, not too sweet but oh-so chocolate-y, my partner enjoyed his very rich lava cake but commented that it came out on the colder side of his liking, my waffles were good, nothing extraordinary but definitely hit the spot.

I would recommend only ordering one chocolate based item per person as everything is very rich and sweet and can become quite the chocolate/sugar overload.

The staff weren’t particularly warm or welcoming, and a few tables in the cafe were dirty with leftover food despite there being about four staff on hand and it being relatively quiet.

If you’re after a nice cafe with good hot drinks or a place to fulfil the ever present sugar cravings, and you don’t mind spending a little more money than I would recommend Butlers.

Alternatively, they do packaged or boxed luxury chocolates which are admittedly very nice and lovely gifts. However when buying chocolates individually they are shoved into little plastic bags, nothing special at all for the price you pay.

3/5

Mum and I’s favourite place to go when we visit Sylvia Park! The matcha latte is not too sweet and you get a chocolate with each drink. Their baps and sandwiches are okay but the scones are bit doughy. But just based on drinks they’re awesome and the service is good too.
Dolce Far Niente
This is the best coffee in Sylvia Park. Have been going to S.P for years and have tried everyones coffee and have found Butlers to be consistently good. Raspberry & white choc muffins are delicious. The staff are friendly & efficient.
Paki
This was good, nothing more or less. Paid $18 to create my own waffle w/choc sauce, marshmallows, berries, banana and ice cream. For that price I definitely think they could’ve been more generous with the berries and marshmallows. Their extensive mini chocolate range is quite impressive
Janey 😋
My partner and I came here for a sweet stop. The service was not great and communication was not clear. We ordered the butlers signature hot chocolate, butlers signature waffles, salt caramel sundae and butlers signature milkshake. The hot chocolate was average although it did taste like real chocolate was used. The salt caramel was only in the sauce not the ice cream which was a shame but the chocolate chunks were a nice touch. The waffles and milkshake were the better parts of our order. The location and ambience was spot on. In saying that I won’t be coming back here.

Was excited to buy some chocolates for a friend's birthday here. All the chocolates on display were neatly and carefully stacked together with finesse. After choosing my chocolates I was surprised to see how the "boutique" chocolates were handled

They were just dropped into the plastic bag like a pick and mix/Binn Inn. What's the point in carefully laying out all the chocolates on display if they are going to be handled like factory seconds.

Why bother selling loose chocolate at $2.60 a piece if you can have the boxed chocolate, which are beautifully packaged and wrapped.

I don't know if Butler's train their staff to handle their chocolate but the chocolates looked worse than the supermarket reduced chocolates after they were bagged. Really disappointed in the handling of the chocolate. I'm really disappointed the staff don't even give care to at least place all the chocolates facing the same way.

I've decided not to gift these chocolates because they look so cheap despite the Butlers Chocolate Cafe bag.

This is my second experience at Butlers Chocolate Cafe, definitely an better experience then the first time.
Had a chocolate lava cake, was nice but the cake itself was very dense and dry. Was not pleasing to eat
Enjoyed my Hot Chocolate though was very delicious thank you for putting extra chocolate as requested.
Overall, was a nice experience defs will be coming back for the coffee and especially the hot chocolate 😊

Good location inside Sylvia Park Mall. Always busy most of the day. Staff were ok, prompt service. They sell a good range of loose and boxed chocolates. Few selections of sandwiches and slices a bonus. Self serve cutleries and water so convenient for customers. Must visit chocolate shop at Sylvia Park.

Coffee has always been great here and the free choice of chocolate is always a fave. Beautiful rich chocolates, which are great for gifts. Caramel flavoured sweets were amazing.
Annie Ren
Great cafe specializing in chocolate treats inside Sylvia Park mall! They have a range of handcrafted chocolates as well as waffles and delicious chocolate desserts! Certainly a great place to relax and reward yourself after some shopping at Sylvia Park!

Decided to have cake and hot chocolate for lunch one day in April. Cookies and cream cheesecake was delicious. Chocolate mud cake was real rich. The chocolate we bought was smooth and creamy. The white hot chocolate was really sweet and the marshmallows complimented the drink really well.

Very convenient location, fast service and great green tea frappe. We normally get chocolate brownie but was in a mood for something different. We had the green tea frappe, mango tea and cookies and cream cheesecake. The frappe was refreshing and I can really taste the matcha đŸ” in it. However, the cheesecake and the mango tea were just ok.

This is great for the kids if your like me and need your coffee fix.. this will keep them entertained as they dip away into chocolate.. silence is gold..love it. Situated in a great spot when you need to rest your legs from the shopping and refuel on a coffee.. the cholocate treats got the kids covered. Nice

After a quick bite at Pakuranga, I had an appointment at Sylvia Park. Having arrived too early, we visited Butlers for coffees. I had a cappuccino & my wife had a Mocha latte frappée. All coffees came with a free chocolate of your choice. The "Chocolate Temptation" was good. My orange crunch was special.

Visited again today. Good environment for a chat with friend. May give it a try if you are a chocolate lover. They serve variety of hot chocolates.

Went on a Friday night for dessert with friends and it was really nice. Great service and even more friendly staff. Everything was just worth the money so would definitely go back and recommend to others. Thank you :)

Came here on a lazy Sunday and ordered the white choc and lemon sponge cake, lava cake, Iced caramel macchiato and a vanilla milkshake. For the price of this I expected it to be amazing.
The sponge cake was delicious and the macchiato was okay. I did enjoy how strong the coffee was 👌
The lava cake was far from a lava cake. Now, I'm a person who looks forward to pressing the spoon down the middle of the cake to watch the gooey hot chocolate sauce run out but unfortunately this one didn't do it. Was completely solid :(
The service here is okay. I didn't like how they grabbed my sponge cake out of the display and popped it on the counter for me to take to my table while i was paying. I'd expect the staff to bring it out with the lava cake.
Overall for the price and quality I probably would never return

Butler's is quite hidden in Sylvia as it's not on the main shopping line or in the Food areas. This was my second visit here and both times I've found it quite empty. The service is pretty good, nothing too special. The ambiance is also very average, the corner of the cafe smells a bit off maybe due to wet areas. We ordered a Butler's Signature Hot Chocolate and Butler's Signature Waffles. When they say a "full" stack of waffles they just mean one waffle cut into four pieces and stacked. I found the serving size very underwhelming and not worth $11.90. However they were tasty. The hot chocolate was very rich as expected since it's made with real chocolate. As a bonus we got a free chocolate with our purchase which was nice. Unfortunately I don't think I'd come here again unless we really wanted dessert and nothing else was open.
Des
Average food and high price. Also I personally don't recommend to buy their vouchers from deal websites. On deals it show more value than actual price.
Janice McCartain Dagg
Managed to get one of those coupons online, we got 10 chcocolates for $10. Which I thought was a bargain price for these handmade chocolates. We did have to drive a bit to get here as we are from west but it was well worth it. They were decadent and delicious. I would love to go back and try some of the cafe menu items if we are in the area again.

A good place for a chocoholic. This is the cafe I keep coming back to at Sylvia Park Mall, mainly because of its quieter ambiance. The coffee is ok and there are lots of hot chocolate options. You get a free chocolate with your drink order. The cabinet is full of the usual options, this last visit we got a chocolate mousse cake and a pecan tart. Both were very good and very sweet.
JungYun Lee
Too pricey for the value of food you get.
Everytime we go the tables are not cleaned and there's bunch of flies flying around.
Their ice coffee tatse good but waffle was bad.
Lakna
I feel like the quality has gone down. So many flies flying around in the store including inside the shelves holding food and chocolate. Also found a hair (not belonging to my friend and I) in the sundae we ordered. Disappointed.
Lucille Sia
Ordered the brownies sundae after a stroll around the shops. For someone with a sweet tooth it was definitely good and not overpoweringly sweet. Loved that it came with vanilla ice cream apart from the sundae itself. Only one person behind the counter but service nonetheless was excellent. Price on the high side. A must place to visit if you come to Sylvia park.
Jessica
Was an alright price to go for something sweet after myself and my friend went shopping at Sylvia park. I was afternoon time and unfortunately they had sold out of what I originally wanted to order which was a shame so I got a chocolate lava cake instead. I would suggest to give it a try if you are craving something sweet after a big day of shopping they have lots of yummy chocolate options on the menu.
Neil Fibbens
Go almost every weekend to get another great hot chocolate. In my view its the best hot chocolate in town and sets you up nicely with the bonus chocolate treat selection prior to a wonder around the shops.

Great Flat white this morning at Butlers Chocolate Café in Sylvia Park - lovely bacon bap and cheery chatty staff - it was a very nice start to my tuesday - will be back !
Michelle Hwang
Grabbed one chocolate and ice-cream combo there. Could not remember the price but acceptable. The chocolate cheese cake was quite sweetly, it's better to have it with a bitter coffee or tea. Friendly staff.

As one who isn't swayed by the persuasive powers of chocolate, it was nice to stumble into a space that turned out to be a pretty swell addition to a mall that's otherwise an enclosed version of every other franchise-dominated area in Auckland City. After discovering that shoving cookies into hot chocolates are a thing, I may never look back. It was well worth the price-of-an-ordinary-chocolate-drink, and also something I'd recommend pitching to every child who still believes in Santa Claus. And in spite of the chaotic line building up behind me, the guy behind the counter still managed to point out that yes, on top of all that moose and cookie and liquid chocolate, one gets to claim complimentary actual chocolate. It's even fancy stuff so take that, every other artisanal chocolate eatery! Enjoy your 4.1 out of 5, Butler's, and not just for the bearded, guylinered man behind the counter's sartorial efforts.
Natasha
Haven't really tried the food her but the drinks are so good - so chocolate-y! Especially when it's cold.
Have had the waffles here but I wasn't the biggest fan.
Decided to give it another shot and ordered the chocolate temptation cake, chocolate decadence sundae and a White choc and berry milkshake.
The waitress messed up my order and I had to go return the cake the specify I wanted the dessert plate, despite the fact I pointed to it on the menu and go through the refund process.
The cake, choc sauce and ice cream were good. The milkshake was nice too, couldn't really taste any berries. The choc decadence sundae had huge chunks of Oreos in it which I think would've been better a bit smaller.

Had a really enjoyable experience here 26.03.16, most made by the lovely waitress. Time would have approximately been 2-3pm.
I was by myself and ordered a Chicken and Cranberry Panini and an iced caramel mocha from memory. Panini was delicious and served nice and hot. Cheese melted, like a great cheesy Panini should be. Drink was also very lovely, but I'd say of an average cafe standard. Also had a bailey's cheesecake slice which was absolutely beautiful! Fast service, made even better by a waitress who cared. Most impressed!

When I first entered Butler's Chocolate Cafe, I noticed their clean, prestigious and pristine looking environment. I like the design of how everything is placed. They also offer soft comfortable chairs, not just wooden. We had a good staff member serve us when we ordered. The only thing was that we felt a little rushed to choose something because there were selected choices to choose from.

Order:
-Marshmallow hot chocolate: Four marshmallows were in my drink. It had a nice concentration of sweetness and I liked the size of the drink
-Butler's dark chocolate brownie: strong richness in sweetness
-Foiled heart (small chocolate): sweet with a chocolate coated outing and gooey insides.
-Chai latte: Very nice taste.
-Chilli Verde (small chocolate): Interesting taste with slight burning sensation in the mouth later.
-Macadamia slice: Just right for me as it was not too sweet like the brownie

This place feels awesome to eat at and a nice place to treat yourself.

This is going to be one of my fav dessert place in sylvia park! I just love the store concept...very stylish and spacious.

The milkshake is awesome and the chocolate is Devine. It's a great place to take your date or a large group.

The service is great. The staff is very attentive and they make you feel welcome.

A must go ...after shopping around the mall ⭐

The chocolate is delicious , Took my littlie here for a quick afternoon treat . â˜ș
BUT
The manager who was on that day wasnt very nice , she was quite rude which annoyed me so it ruined the spontaneous visit . Given it was my first time there I doubt il return . Just because of this lady...
Biohazard
Their chocolate is nice enough but I must say I never crave for their chocolate or chocolate drinks. I recommend their praline or chilli hot chocolate, but they have good selection of other hot chocolates. I do find their hot chocolates a bit too sweet and lack the richness that I prefer. The location of the cafe inside Sylvia Park is a very convenient place to meet with friends, or relax after a long shopping session!
Emily
Brought a grab one voucher for this place so came on a Thursday with a coworker for lunch. Yum yum yum! We both brought a savory items as well as a slice, a hot chocolate and a handmade chocolate. We couldn't finish as we had overindulge. I will be coming back with the hubby and kids.

Nice change :)
Have variety of chocolates, quite lively.
Please be prepared to wait for 10-15 mins but waiting was worth it.
Found Staff quite friendly.

Pleasantly surprised. I went in for a try despite the previous posters comments I ordered my difficult version a hot drink, being a single. Short. Black. Mocha. The counter girl was very friendly and had a big smile, impressive considering my big demands for a very special order. The Barista surprised me when he asked how much chocolate I wanted. I said probably only a small amount to which he began pouring generously with a smile. I ordered a decadent 60 percent dark chocolate brownie with my drink and both were delightful. I cannot comment on table service, but the counter service was excellent

Nice place to have chocolate and desserts. Loved thair inside sitting arrangements. Taste is good. Service is also good. Price is ok. Recommend to all.

Amazing chocolates. This place is my go to place for some mix and match chocolates. Each piece is $2.20. My favorite is the chocolate truffle.

It's always a treat when there is a chocolate cafe situated within a mall. I've visited this cafe 3-4 times and believe that it's pretty average. The coffees are ordinary and the desserts are neither very good nor very bad. However, the range of chocolates they provide always excites me - they look like little balls of happiness :)))

Overall, Butlers is not my favourite cafe in Sylvia park but it's worth visiting at least once!
Mandy
A super busy chocolate cafe in Sylvia Park

I found it particularly difficult to rate this cafe but I came to the conclusion of 3. We've been here twice this year and both were grabone vouchers of two lava cakes. It is always very busy and because they take a while to clean the tables, it's hard to find a place to sit. We had a really bad experience where the staff completely ignored us and when we told them what we wanted, they said they had run out and to come back a few days later when they were in stock. In my opinion, I feel that if you recently promoted a grabone voucher for lava cakes, you should make sure you had sufficient lava cakes to serve therefore that left me with a bad opinion about them. The lava cakes are really good but to be honest, I wouldn't pay full price for it. It is very expensive and although it was tasty, I wouldn't say it's worth to empty out my pockets.

Picture:
- Two lava cakes with vanilla ice-cream and warm chocolate sauce ($5 each with grabone voucher, usually $9.90 each)

I would only go back if I had the grabone voucher and I wouldn't go to try anything else, it is extremely overpriced and the cafe itself is messy.

This place has very nice chocolates. Desserts are fair. The quality of drinks and other counter food vary - need more consistency. The staff need more training to keep up with modern service expectations.

Visited on Easter Monday. Wish I hadn't, the worst coffee experience I have had for a long time. Waited at the counter, while 3 staff members ignored me, one was the manager. Then after 4 mins, which is a long time to be kept waiting. I was able to get their attention. The manager and male staff member, had a brief argument on who would be available to serve me. The male staff member approached, no greeting, I ordered my coffees and paid. Watched the inexperienced barista make a coffee, which was overflowing and she was told not to serve in by the manager, but did anyway. Waiting for coffees, asked for glass to get some water, as there were none at the water station, told they were all in the dishwasher. Got coffee , which was slopped into saucer, got an iceblock stick stirrer with my cups. no teaspoons, same place as glasses! filthy cafe, lots of tables with dirty dishes. Grumpy staff, no excuse, that we were busy after being closed for the day before over Easter. You only rostered on 3 staff. Won't be back -ever. Note for store manager, get a job you enjoy.
Shannah Kim
Really bad service, the staff wouldn't pay us any attention and carried on doing other things instead of serving us. The drinks were equally bad, the iced latte tasted like nothing and the hot chocolate tasted like nothing special. Would not come back again.

Tucked away at one end of Sylvia Park, this cafe beckons to the chocoholic with its carefully arranged rows of gourmet chocolates. Many a time have I fallen prey to the siren’s call while shopping, but on previous occasions, I usually managed to restrict myself to only a hot chocolate. Today, however, the new(?) menu removed any possibility of such prudence. There was now a tempting array of cakes, tarts, and waffles to choose from, accompanied with chocolate flakes, chocolate sauce, ice cream, and a Butlers chocolate. Obviously, I succumbed remorselessly.

I selected the Baileys cheesecake – which was good, if a bit small. The accompaniments went well with it, though the chocolate sauce was disappointingly watery. Their hot chocolate was rich and satisfying as always – I typically go for a simple dark hot chocolate, as the marshmallow and cookie varieties are a bit over-the-top for my taste. All hot chocolates come with a piece of Butlers chocolate of your choice, which is probably the main reason I usually end up here instead of Theobroma at the other end of the corridor. :)

Food was above average nothing majorly impressive, but the service was pathetic the worst ever experienced. The place was dirty and messy the staff was rude disinterested and lacked politeness. Not going here again unless I hear about any changes in service and attitude.

I'm so excited to find Butlers in Auckland. Its always been a great place to over indulge in all things chocolate.
Took my family in for coffees and ended up with Chocolate Sundaes. Yum!
I'll be back again soon

I've been wanting to try this store for sometime, and since I also got a deal for my family and I, I thought this was great timing.
They were extremely busy as it was a weekend and a Saturday. The staff were prompt and didn't keep us waiting. I was with four thirsty and hungry teenagers eager to see what was on offer. The staff were also very friendly and patient as we took some time to decide on what we wanted to order, even though there was about five to six other people waiting. We all ended up with the Butler's hot chocolate, gluten free brownie's and chocolate brownies. We also got complimentary chocolate's to the kids delights. My teenagers are quite fussy when eating and drinking. I must mention this, make sure you've had a solid meal before this as the chocolate drinks mixed with the devine gluten free brownies, downed with the complimentary chocolates can be quite overwhelming and very rich. That's what's to be expected when you come to a chocolate store.lol. I had the caramel hearts with a peanut. This was devine and I would tell everyone to get the gluten free brownies as the kids raved about them. Soooo moist and goooey, my other teenager got the normal brownie and couldn't finish it off as it was too much. Hence the other teenagers with the gluten free brownies were devoured. Great store, attentive and friendly staff made a good impression on us. It does get rather busy so try and order quickly, and get a seat quickly as this store does fill up fast.

I had a $10 deal for which I was supposed to get 2 slices 2 drinks and 2 chocolates, I thought its a super deal, when I went there I could see it was really busy and lovely cafe!! No wonder!! So I waited in the long queue, but by the time it was my turn the blonde hair lady looked so pissed off already!! Didn't even attend to me properly, I gave her a benefit of doubt that she might be having a bad day, but when I asked her which slices I was supposed to have she literally shouted at me in the rudest manner "these slices from TOP SHELF ONLY"!! And later added a cunning smile, first of all I wasn't deaf!! Neither do I deserve this kind of service!! Since I had already paid for the drinks I completed my order, after my coffee arrived it was too poor in taste I ordered a Mocha and being a coffee addict I know how much froth a Mocha has, and mine was a wobbling coffee no froth at all!! Too watery to be called a flatwhite even!! ah! I went back to the barista who was nice and polite, I complained to her about my coffee, while she told me she will make me another one the blonde hair woman started counting the barista's mistakes in front of me and not that she was apologizing, it was more like hating her colleagues!! Ridiculous this woman needs to learn to behave!! Won't be going there for sure again!! Worst experience of my life!!

Stumbled across this place yesterday - escaping the rain. I was particularly cold and miserable so I was in the mood for a Hot Chocolate.

The young lady who served me was smiley and chatty - this place has a whole menu of Hot Chocolates so I asked for some suggestions and I settled on a Dark Hot Chocolate. You get to chose a chocolate here also so I picked a Dark Truffle to go with the Hot Chocolate. The decor is bright and warm with seats and some long leather benches - the leather seats at the back looked more inviting as I could watch the rest of the what was happening in the mall.

My Dark Hot Chocolate arrived in a glass - it looked very rich and tasted quite strong - it's definitely not a drink to be rushed - but I savoured every last drop - rich creamy dark chocolate - just the warm-up I needed on a wet Auckland afternoon.

Visited the Sylvia Park cafe today for a bite of lunch. Not busy at all. The server was unfriendly and indeed disinterested. One of the keys to a quality food experience is cleanliness. Every table had crumbs and evidence of previous diners. I asked the server if a table could be wiped ready for me to sit at - she did so in a cursory manner telling me that they were short staffed - not my problem. Even the chairs were dirty. Who owns this place and allows a sullen woman called Susan to front the customers? Food average in taste and overpriced - all because you get a "free" chocolate I suspect. Would love to know that the owner of the cafe is reading the feedback here - both good and bad - and adjusting the service accordingly.

Visited the Sylvia Park store over the weekend, it was very very busy, to the point that while I was waiting the line was out the door... however the staff took it all in there stride, greeting my family as we got to the counter, talking to the kids and even giving them a free chocolate even though the kids didn't get anything to drink... The service was fantastic, the food was amazing and the coffee was just how I like it, strong and well made.. I think that other cafes in the mall can learn a thing or two from this cafe...

Got a $10 voucher deal (2xhot drinks, 2xslice, 2xchocolates) and took my Mum and two kids there today, 24 May 2013. I had read the reviews on this website and was a bit concerned, but it was totally different from what I'd read - it was brilliant. The ladies on the counter were so great- my little girl can't have dairy so they went and got a special chocolate for her that doesn't have dairy, and my Mum had a green tea which she said was lovely. I had a soy latte which was delicious, and we also got a chocolate brownie and caramel slice to share. I would definitely go there again, and I did see that you get a free chocolate with every coffee so that sounds great too! It was a great day out. Would definitely recommend. Tables all very clean, and all staff very friendly and helpful.

Went to the cafe with my mum today to redeem a voucher for 2 slices, 2 hot drinks and 2 chocolates. I ordered a macadamia chocolate slice, dark marshmallow hot chocolate and a praline chocolate. My mum ordered a mocha, ginger slice and an almond crunch chocolate. The person who took the order was very nice.

The slices were quite nice but the drinks weren't up to standard. Upon the arrival of my dark marshmallow hot chocolate both my mother and I noticed there were no marshmallows. So my mum commented to the barrister asking "Doesn't it come with marshmallows?" to which the barrister responded rudely "No". The mocha was weak and underwhelming and when I drank the hot chocolate there was a burnt taste to it my mother also agreed. So my mum took it back and said that it was suppose to be a marshmallow dark hot chocolate and it tasted burnt. The barrister was again rude to my mum and reluctantly said she would make another.

Had there been better service from the barrister my mother and I would have been fine with it but unfortunately the barrister had a bad attitude. I'm very embarrassed that I took my mother there and my mother had to put up with that attitude.

If I go back there I will definitely check to see if that barrister is there and making the drinks before I order.

Was at Sylvia Park on Saturday with my mother from overseas, we wanted to try something different.
We ordered a lemon cheesecake, a milkshake and an ice chocolate, all the tables were dirty inside so we went outside, of course it's not the same, anyway we were happy outside, when our order arrived it was in takeaway cups, so I said sorry I didn't asked for takeaways, so the girl (I can't even call her a waitress she was so rude) said sorry we run out of clean glasses, so I refused the takeaways cups and she was back within 2 minutes with 2 glasses, so I said well that was quick and she replied yes I had to wash them. Mum had a bite of her cheesecake, it was so bad that we decided to leave, demanded our money back, the manageress was as rude as the girl, so it's not a place I would recommend.

I went to redeem a voucher for chocolates, they are really very good rich and decadent like good chocolate should. The service was fine so no complaints, did not have food or coffee.

I was excited to try out Butlers as Sylvia Park is my local and I've tried almost every eatery there so far. I went along with my sister on Friday 17 August around 3pm. We ordered the ham and cheese quiche, chocolate pecan tart, chocolate brownie, a mocha and an ice chocolate (with extra chocolate). Because it had just recently opened I didn't mind that the cashier took a while to put through our order on the system. I was asked if I wanted the quiche to be heated which I found very strange. Of course you would expect a hot quiche when you buy one at a cafe. I asked for my the brownie and tart to be heated also (sure fire way to make sure food isn't too dry). We didn't have to wait too long before our drinks were served. The mocha was very bitter, but my ice chocolate was spot on (though it could have been a different story had I not asked for extra chocolate flavour). I was very disappointed when the food arrived. Our sweets had no cream on the side. The cheese in the quiche was very strong and salty. The waitress gave me a knife and fork for my quiche and tart but only a knife for my sisters brownie, which was very soft inside and needed a fork to be eaten properly. I struggled through the food and gave up half way through the quiche. I desperately needed water afterwards, which I was glad to find on hand for customers (self service). Overall the decor is lovely and the service is ok, but I would not go there again considering the 5 things we bought came to around $31. Not worth what you pay. Maybe they'll get better over time.

Butlers is a sweet place to take a break when you're in Sylvia Park. Originally from Ireland, the Irish chain of cafes is renowned for their complimentary piece of chocolate chosen from their cabinet with every beverage ordered... And this one is no exception. My friends and I ordered a few coffees and cakes, coffees were decent and the cakes yummy. The chocolates were also tasty and really sets the cafe apart from the other chains. Service was friendly but I would suggest for them to perhaps jazz up the decor a little as the ambiance is a bit plain. All in all, Butler's is a good place to go when you need a caffeine fix or some quality chocolates.
