After driving through torrential rain and wind this Cafe was a welcome respite between Nelson and Greymouth. They have a wood fire in a large restaurant with cosy seating and eclectic decor. Their bakery selections are the largest most generous serving sizes I have even seen! They have free WiFi and friendly staff. So pleased we stopped here!

Great indoor outdoor seating, cabinet good, friendly staff and stylishly crafted wooden tables. The keep cup discount hasn't been invented here yet, along with 90% of cafes in NZ, but more and more are catching on, because cafe owners are discovering that there is a significant amount of time saved when they don't have to wash the cup and saucer. The other 10% are smart cafe owners who reward their customers for saving precious dish water. Yeah nah, even if this cafe doesn't do keep cup discount, it's still the best cafe in Murchison.

Great place to stop for a coffee/pie between West Coast and Nelson :) Perfect atmosphere and kindly staffs. It will be really busy sometimes, just be patient for your order. You will certainly love the meals.

Good food, fast service, comfortable seating. the place is quite big, so you can't really compare it to a cozy cafe. But it gets very close to it. The only thing that might be better is if they exchanged the carpet floor to wood or tile, as the crumbs from baked food tend to get caught in the carpet

Mandatory stop from Nelson on the way to Greymouth. Nice and comfy cafe, you can feel the warmth when you step in. Heaps of couches, wood tables and the newspapers of day. Coffee was nicely prepared, balanced and tasteful. Together with, we ordered their homemade short bread, crunch when bitten and smooth inside your mouth.

It's a beautiful cafe and amazing atmosphere. I was so tired and didn't feel like anything from the menu. What we did end up getting was tasty. Coffee was great too. Would definitely go here again if passing by.

Loved the vibe of this quirky cafe in an old garage. Excellent coffee and the food looked great. Takeaway sandwiches were OK but not brilliant, if I had been dining in I would have wanted to try most of the menu

If you're looking for a cozy cafe with homemade food and top-notch service, look no further than Rivers Cafe in Murchison. This delightful establishment truly feels like it's run with love and genuine passion, and that passion shines through in every aspect of the dining experience. I had the pleasure of enjoying a homemade beef burger at Rivers Cafe for lunch, and I can honestly say it was one of the best burgers I've ever had. The patty was juicy and flavorful, and the homemade bun was the perfect complement. It's clear that the folks at Rivers Cafe take pride in their cooking, and it shows in every bite. But it's not just the food that makes Rivers Cafe so special. The service here is truly exceptional - friendly, attentive, and always going above and beyond to make sure their customers are happy. Whether you're a regular or a first-time visitor, you'll feel welcomed and appreciated at this lovely cafe. Overall, I can't recommend Rivers Cafe highly enough. From the homemade food to the top-notch service to the cozy atmosphere, this is a truly special place that deserves all the praise it gets. If you're in the Murchison area, be sure to make a stop at Rivers Cafe - you won't regret it!

My husband's Date Scone was dense and filling - which he really enjoyed. Beautiful! My Raspberry and white chocolate muffin was a little too moist at the bottom; maybe a little less liquid in the dough would help. It was very sweet - as you would expect; but with the added dusting of icing sugar it made it too sweet for me. Large Latte was beautiful, even when I left it to go cold, it was still enjoyable. Service was awesome, we were allowed to bring our dogs inside to sit with us as it was freezing outside. Really well priced. $22, but the muffin and scone was huge. No photos this time; sorry folks!

Not a bad roadside cafe if you have a long drive through the country or if you're making a stop in Murchison for some of the water activities. Tasty food and good coffee. Hearty breakfasts, some salad (though they had run out the day we came) - either way it's a nice cafe in a small town and nicer than many of the other towns en route down to Christchurch or Franz Josef so it's worth a stop! Mince on toast is good! So are the burgers!
