Really lovely cosy atmosphere, great food and excellent service
Nick Lawyer
A very friendly and enjoyable experience. The wait staff were fun and joined in on our debates. The food was good (but not amazing). Prices were fair. We went in winter and were seated by the door so it was a bit chilly. A good time for sure, would recommend.

We had a great meal here with the ciabatta starter and the steak and chicken for our mains, the steak was a great cut, cooked to perfection and super tasty. We both indulged in dessert. I would highly recommend for great food and atmosphere. Service was also very good.

Since arrival in NZ in 2020, this was hands down the best Restaurant, Fantastic food, awesome staff and just a great atmosphere, the Beef Wellington was to die for and the Creme Brulee fantastic - best ever!

Really lovely dinner and cosy ambience.
Katharine Good
We enjoyed the pretty little European style courtyard and desserts outside. Inside was busy with good atmosphere. A nice find down a back street, in a gorgeous art deco building. Very pleasant staff as well.

Where do we start! Love love love, the service was perfect, lovely young lady and so attentive. The good was unbelievable, the scallops, fish of the day all cooked to perfection. The Baileys Crème Brûlée was out of this world. 1 min walk from The Crown Hotel , perfect location and lo Ely setting. Don’t go past this one you will not be disappointed, EXCEPTIONAL!

Friendly atmosphere and delicious food. Smoked feta pot, grouper, and scotch fillet were very tasty, as was the date pudding and port at the end.
Cecilia Teixeira
This was the best meal we had on the North Island and we have been going to great restaurants. Excellent in every single detail. We didn’t have a reservation and were lucky they could find a table for us outside, at the patio. Make sure you eat at this restaurant at least one time when visiting the region.
Joanna villaranda
Great atmosphere, Staff was friendly and attentive, Food was good! Will be back again.
Jody MacDonald
The steak fillet was great! My compatriot had the Wellington and said it was quite good also.

A really nice place to dine. Ambience with the soft candlelight and warmth of the heater on a cold night. Friendly service and very nice meals. Quite a quaint place I felt. Have already recommended my family to go there.
Alex Neil
Outstanding. Literally the best chowder, and this is from someone who's usually not fussed on seafood. Have been coming here regularly for 3 years and food is always amazing and service great. If you're in Napier, go there!
Matt Gaffney
Couldn't rate higher!..........Food superb, service awesome, ambience unbeatable......honestly the best dining experience in many years..thanks to all that made for an unforgettable night!
Kristie Mardle
Had dinner there last night and it was superb!! Big portions and delicious! Beef Wellington so tender you didn't need a knife to cut it and salmon cooked to perfection! So on point we couldn't fault anything. Brilliant service can't wait to go back!

Recommend booking ahead! Absolutely loved the quality food and ambience, it was amazing!! Even with a couple minor errors I would definitely say this is a wonderful restaurant worth visiting. Compliments to the chef tonight

Amazing food! So so so delicious. Can't wait to come back
Olivia Rachel
Food was delicious, friendly little place. Had a date night with no kids and was intimate enough to have a private conversation, with a candle on the table and great wait staff.
Chelsea
Service was 100%. A decent selection on the food menu, as for the drinks menu. Small dining area inside, gorgeous courtyard outside. The food is always perfect. The baked feta pot is amazing!!
Anne Mc
Excellent food, service and atmosphere. The owner, Ange was so attentive and friendly. We all enjoyed our mains and desserts, have to say, the best we have had in awhile. Was worth visiting 3 Doors Up whilst on holiday from Australia. Highly recommend!! Will definitely return next time we visit Napier.

Nice cosy restaurant. Warm deco, Excellent service. The food was lovely especially the chicken risotto, probably the best I have ever tasted. It's not your ordinary risotto. Desert was really awesome. Chocolate with Orange and Vanilla ice cream. Nice wine selection as well. Surely recommend this place.

I looked at the reviews, I had a look in the window and was still not sure but we took a punt on Sunday night and decided to give it a go. - and we are glad.we did.<br/><br/>It was very. Yah bit they still managed to squeeze four of us in!<br/><br/>We had the lamb racks (which were brilliant), the chicken carbonara (okay) and the T bone steak (excellent but needs French fries not thin sliced deep fried potatoe)<br/><br/>We had a bottle of the 2016 Te Mata Bullnose which was way too young but a great drop all the same.<br/><br/>The lemon meringue tart was divine but the cheese cake was a bit on the heavy side.<br/><br/>Service was great.<br/><br/>Decor needs work but don’t let the looks deceive you - give it a go like we did!

After travelling all day and getting to our motel hungry and tired, we were wanting a yummy and quick meal to take back to the motel but didn't want any naughty fast foods. We checked for food to go in Napier and Three Doors Up was recommended. I wouldn't personally recommend this place for food to go as it's definitely more of a dine in joint, beautiful, warm and cosy, a shame not to eat in! The lady on the phone was super friendly and accommodating and was fine with setting up our food "to go". We got the fettuccine with chicken, bacon and mushroom and it was flavourful and al dente. My partner chose the pork belly and his comments were that the sauce was quite tasty and the meat was cooked well. I tried a bit and I did like the flavours all put together, the agria fries were OK but a bit too crunchy and salty for my liking, a parsnip mash would have complimented it better in my opinion. Our child had the steak and veges and it was nice and tender and cooked perfectly. Great price too!

On arrival I was greeted with a jokey pun on my surname that I didn't appreciate. The decor is pleasant. The menu is standard and the presentation of the food was pretty good. My final order of a Drambuie was forgotten completely. Overall it was 'Nice' at best. I won't be back in the near future.

We booked a table for three when we turned up we where not greeted we where pushed aside we where made to feel liked we where just a new since they had taken down the wrong name as well as  only booked for two so they put us out side the young waiter was badly trained and rushed we where made to feel so uncomfortable that we left  lv been here in the past and are in a similar business and have recommend  them to our customers but not any more sadly very disappointed

First time I've been for a meal here. Very impressive food, good service, pleasant atmosphere. Very keen to return. Fish of the day, Grouper was perfectly cooked and awesome flavour. :-)
Phil Murray
Dine here whenever I have visitors from out of town. It is consistently very good. A balance of tasty affordable meals, smart service and original decor. Definitely recommend the pasta and risotto dishes.

Had lunch there today and was really looking forward to it...however I ordered chicken salad and the (very little) chicken was inedible and incredibly tough!..and I barely detected pine nuts. The greens (letup) was boring with just an iceburg type lettuce. I expected much more!

We went to Napier for one night as birthday celebration, and i could not emagine to have a better night. Restaurant temperature was just right (i had a dress with out sleaves on), we were very wellcome, Anj is really nice and warm person, very profesional, we were strangers to her, but when i ordered table for us i mention its my partners birthday and we recieved free bothle of vine, which we think it was amazing!!!food was very nice, big starters and steak was great, only my partner set it was a little bit chue, but other then that very nice. we didnt have a space for desert what is shame, because i heard about amazing deserts over there. Guys whoever we asked in town whats Three Doors Up like, everybody set its really nice restaurant with amazing food!!! we def. will be back with our friends and family!!!

When we dined here the other night and were disappointed after reading such good reviews. Firstly, where we were seated was very unpleasant due to a cold breeze. I was very pleased I did not give my coat to the waitress as she offered. I also notice other diners that left their coats on. Secondly, although the food was tasty, one meal came out cold. Overall not what we were expecting and in hindsight I wish I had of spoken up, but in saying that, we did start off with one waitress, who then left and we gained another, who seemed to just pass over us and was quite abrupt. We won't be back

A very dear friend and myself look forward to lunching here every Friday and i can honestly say we are never disappointed. We have between us had most of the menu and still every week we sit and ponder over what we are going to choose. Everything is delicious, well presented, very affordable and served with genuine charm and personality. The atmosphere is the best in town and we think Three Doors Up is a treasure.

Not a huge menu which is actually a plus for us, but adequate choice. We both had beautiful meals. I had the iconic and devine risotto and husband had groper, both meals were absolutely delicious. Service was welcoming and efficient. We are not locals but choose to eat there whenever we are in Napier and have learnt to book so that we are guaranteed a table. Will return again. Lovely environment as well.

We had a large function at 3 doors up. There were problems with the communication re set menu vs price per course. Also even though we kept the proprietor up to date with number changes we were charged for 4 people that were not able to make it. Such a shame as the food was delicious and the courses were all delivered in a timely fashion, left us feeling a bit ripped off :(<br/>Will not be going back in any capacity and will not recommend to friends colleagues

We took mother in law for lunch on Sunday. Excellent front of house staff and food was also excellent. I had Lamb Kofta Salad, himself had Risotto and she had the omelette. All were delicious and left a wee space for dessert. Great atmosphere and look forward to being able to eat out in the lovely courtyard.

Had lunch here today. I eat here every year when I'm in Napier. Every year I'm remembered. Not just remembered as a face but remembered with all the details. It makes me feel special. The meal was excellent but then it always is so I'd expect nothing less. I eat at The Mission and Pacifica - two superb restaurants but you know what? On balance I'd rather eat here at Three Doors up.

Great service, delicious food, very tolerant of kids, food all local and fresh and beautifully cooked and presented. Highly recommended, would definitely go again! By far the best food, service and atmosphere experienced anywhere I've been in Hawkes Bay/Taupo area!

Our evening here could not be faulted. Superb food and service. Our table of six well travelled foodies ordered from the menu and the night's specials. From the coconut tempura prawns to the steak, market fish, and affogato everything was beautifully cooked and presented. A hidden gem that the locals obviously enjoy as the place was packed. The only downside that it was a little loud.

Three doors up is awesome!<br/>Lovely meal, lovely wine, lovely service.<br/>Will definatly be back!

This restaurant has it all: excellent food, service and ambience at a reasonable price. Each dish has exquisite and interesting flavours (e.g. pea puree complemented by cajan infusion and balsamic creme with delicately cooked scallops - clean and subtle). Deserts have real chocolate! The wine selection is both interesting and excellent. Service is unsurpassed in HB. One of the few restaurants I consider worthy of repeat visits.
Mr Mac
a good find! Fantastic food and wine list with friendly service. To the extent that I have now become a regular; recommending 3DD to friends and family. Have also recently selected 3DD as a venue for a business function; a well run establishment.<br/><br/>Recommend the rissotto.

The maitre d was very rude. Turns out she was the owner so not much point complaining to her. <br/><br/>When we entered the restaurant, she took menus off our table for another table and half an hour later still had not replaced them. Things deteriorated from there. She was just plain rude and I will not be returning.<br/>The waitress was nice, as was my meal but I will not be lining this lady's pockets.

Went as a group of 18 ... excellent food and service with a comprehensive wine list. The ordering was faultless, timely delivery and perfect presentation ... this place was very busy but the team at Three Doors Up treated everyone to a relaxed and friendly experience. One of very few restaurants worthy of 5 stars ... I'll be back soon for more!

My husband and I have eaten here a few times, very helpful wait staff who memorise your order and their recommendations on food and wine are always spot on.

Our second dining experience at Three Doors Up certainly met our expectations. Dining with a group of five people, the food was superb, and no one was left disappointed with the meals nor the value. Though the Chicken Parmigiana was no longer on the menu, it was cooked especially by request for 3 of our guests. Though not the same item understandably due to no longer being a menu item, it was still satisfactory none the less. The new staff done a great job. Will continue to dine here at every opportunity. Looking forward to dining again before Christmas, to try the Turkey, which sounds mouth-watering.<br/><br/><br/>----- 05 Oct, 2009 -----<br/><br/>3 Doors Up deserves to be 5 Star. Partner and I ended up here simply by chance whilst driving through Napier City looking for somewhere to celebrate a special occasion. We ended up stopping at 6 (six!) different venues , but were not disappointed with this little treasure. 3 Doors Up has a spectacular Menu selection, with the best service you could ever hope for. A very charismatic interior, cosy outdoor area with external fire which would be great for summer dining, and superb food and wine matching. 3 Doors up is now our regular, we wouldn't dine anywhere else.
