Loved this place ...Lovely view and outside seating ...Had Beer Battered Fish bites and plate of chips ..Shared and it was enough .. Beautiful cup of coffee ..The beer battered fish melted in your mouth ..Tasty..
Can't recommend this location enough!! The staff, food and atmosphere are top notch and pricing is very reasonable. We've been two nights in a row and have a reservation for tomorrow. Our new local in Napier :)
We had dinner. The menu is pretty standard along with the quality of the food which was above average. The service was a mixed bag, good and nasty. The positive thing about this place is the affordable price. I had 2 mains and a desert with 2 craft beers for $99. I may come back..
Excellent tasting food, friendly staff, nice atmosphere, will definitely go back again for dinner. Highly recommended. Visited here with my wife and daughter, we all had something different for Dinner. I had oxtail stew, it was cooked to perfection, and tasted amazing. My wife had fish of the day, which she said was delicious. My daughter had roast pork, she loved it.
I visit Napier a few times a year, we will definitely be returning to The Thirsty Whale.
It had an awesome menu, and the food is delicious.
Staff were very friendly and helpful. One of our party wanted an item from their lunch menu which had just finished but they were willing to do this for him. Wonderful atmosphere and reasonably priced.

Absolutely excellent !!
Being from out of town finding this gem was a highlight of our trip to napier! The staff were exceptional and so friendly nothing was an issue, seated and drinks came out promptly. We had the salt and pepper squid for our starter and it was Devine!!!! We eat s&p squid everywhere we go that has it on the menu. We actually base our restaurant choice on if it has it on the menu. We have eaten alot of squid dishes but this one was our very favourite!!!! Absolutely cooked to perfection so buttery melt in the mouth and the way it was done asain inspired was so good and we've never had it this way before with the teriyaki and Japanese mayo WOW! onto the main course I had the seafood chowder which was actually an entree but was sooooooooo delicious and the perfect portion for me with prawns, fish, mussels, salmon and the most velvety creamy sauce it was very good.
My fiance had the burger he said was good but needed a special sauce to Amp it up to be amazing.
The only negative we could say was it did take a long time to recieve our starter about 40 mins and then about 1hr 15m to recieve our main. However the staff were really apologetic for the wait which went along way for us to be acknowledged.
Would highly recommend this restaurant and would be first on our list to stop in next time we are in town thanks again 😊
Great impromptu dinner. Service was outstanding, the food was great and it was a great atmosphere, being quite busy.
First time eating here and I have to say, it was definitely one of the best eat out experiences I’ve had here in the bay. Highly recommend, will be one of my regulars now, prices are fair and staff were lovely. Bathroom facilities were very clean. Absolutely loved the mushroom garlic sauce on my steak. Thank yous for a great experience, will be returning again soon with the family, children’s menu looks awesome as well and has something for all kids to enjoy. Also the cheesecake and vanilla ice cream was easily my favourite dessert, I’ve ordered many cheesecakes from other restaurants and none of them compare to thirsty.
DELICIOUS! We ate here for dinner and it was lovely. The bar is awesome all lit up and the fireplace was great on a cooler night. The meal was great and the cocktails were super yum! We would definitely come back. Thanks so much!
Visited just after Christmas when most places were still closed for the holiday, as such it was very busy and you needed a booking to get in. As it was busy it took an hour before our starters arrived, as a way of apology we got the garlic bread free 😋. I had fresh green muscles which were delicious 👍.
The vegetarian burger was disappointing along with the fries. The roast pork my wife had was very fatty (she doesn't like fat) and didn't include roast potatoes like she was expecting 😔.
The seafood extravaganza, lamb shank and Caesar salad were delicious and enjoyed by the others in our party. There were some really nice deserts
All the staff were friendly and exceptionally helpful.
I would highly recommend the moctail drinks, they were delicious if you fancy some Summer Loving or a Tropicana 🤪
Would come again when they were less busy.
Great service right from the start. We had no booking today, went next door for a beer to wait and they came and got us to be seated within 30 mins. We ordered the Sirloin and Seafood Extravaganza (see pic). Steak was perfect with the Dianne sauce, chips and salad. Seafood was fresh, tasty and cooked to perfection. Well worth the price!
Loved the food, loved the layout, loved all the stuff to look at inside. The skeleton band was a nice surprise.
