Review Sri Thai - Napier

Graham Watson
Great Thai food with lots of flavour and variety. Unfortunately, the service was not up to the same standard. The servers were inexperienced and not that interested in doing their jobs. The bathrooms are old and dirty, not what you expect in a restaurant of this standard.

Incredible food. We had chicken sate and Thai filled chicken wings for starters which were veey tasty. The crispy potk red curry was next level for flavour ans we alsoloved the chicken peanut sauce stir fry. YUMMY!!

Amazing dishes and excellent service! Be sure to make reservations as this place was BUSY! Delicious eats made for sharing (or not lol) and guaranteed to fill you up!

Delicious fresh and fast Pho is the best I have had in nz My go to is the house curry stir fry. Takeaway does not seem as delicious for some reason.

Absolutely delicious Thai food! would recommend if you're in the area.

Had a lovely meal where both of us tried new dishes that we had never had and were both super happy with our choices. So flavourful that my partner almost scraped the dish clean. Also with friendly helpful staff it's easy to see why Sri Thai is so many locals favourite.

Probably one of the best Asian restaurants in Napier Food quality is good Service is great too The owner of this restaurant really knows how to run a good business But recommend to make a booking advance. Otherwise, it is almost full every night during weekend

I acquired a love for Thai and Vietnamese food while on an Asian cruise/stay vacation a few years back. I always read the reviews when traveling in areas where Asian food is common, like New Zealand. I was pleased to find a highly recommended restaurant offering both. Sri Thai lived up to its reputation... The food was authentic and very tasty... The service was inexplicably slow. We arrived rather late in the evening. You know, not too late that the kitchen is closing down, but after the rush, where most tables that empty are not reseated. For this reason and the fact that the server promptly took our order and delivered the wine, I put the blame on the kitchen crew for taking over an hour to deliver the main course, including the soup. That being said, the Fancy Thai Prawn Appetizer arrived in a somewhat timely manner, but it took the kitchen another 45 minutes for the Tom yum soup, the Spicy Basil Noodles, and the Chicken Lemon Grass. Maybe the 45-minute wait heightened our appetite, allowing us to appreciate the food even more. Regardless, even after the wait, the food was great. So... if you find yourself in Napier craving some authentic Asian cuisine AND you aren't in a hurry, Sri Thai might just be for you!

Decor dated and too much noise. Pretty cramped in there. Food and service great. Chicken Pad Thai on point. Chicken Thai Fried Rice on point for him. Roti bread was more flaky pastry and very oily. Forgot to take photos.

It's an authentic Thai n Vietnamese restaurant, liked Pho n Vietnamese spring rolls. Roasted pork Salad is not bad, but it can be better if the roasted pork was warm n the salad dressing was not spicy...in general, a good place to enjoy Asian food.

My family of 5 went to Sri Thai for dinner last night 24/10/21. We got the fish cakes, stuffed mushrooms and satay chicken as starters and they were absolutely delicious! Our 5 mains were absolutely delicious also! We all share the plates! The service was fantastic, lovely staff, we often were asked if we needed anything extra. Very busy night so small wait time! 😀 We will be back!

A little torn between this place and Thai Chef. Still it delivers great food with great service. Spring rolls are pretty good here amongst the entree menu items and definitely worth the visit if you live or are visiting the Bay. Get in there... oh and BYO.

Really yummy vege noodles. Great flavours and decent serving of vegetables. Friendly service. Perhaps could look at more eco friendly alternatives to the polystyrene container?

Overall average food and experience. Not sure if cuisines are made differently in Australia but coming from Asian background seems to been interpreted differently to what I’ve grown up on. Food was highly salted had to purchase a few drinks to wash it all down.

Had a really great meal here. It was very busy so the service was a little slow, but they made up for this with their fantastic quality food. I ordered the yellow curry with tofu, great portion size and decent amount of spice. Also ordered tom yum soup - amazing flavour and a very large portion. Definitely got our money's worth at this restaurant and will be returning next time I am in Napier.

Really lovely suburban Thai restaurant. Usual kitsch decor, but the food for is much better than expected.

Started with chicken satays and Thai spring rolls. Both lovely. Then the crispy pork Thai salad. Wow. Absolutely scrumptious. The highlight of the dishes. The pork belly pieces were moist yet crisp, whilst the dressing on the salad was mouth watering.

Then the yellow prawn curry which was all a bit bland, and then the ginger beef. Yum. The kids adored the pad Thai chicken, always a winner, but this was better than most.

Gewurtztraminer always makes Thai sing. This was blessed with rose and peach on the nose. Delightful foil for the Thai flavours.

Nicely presented Restaurant on entrance.
We ordered a selection of entrees which were ok, but not great. Tom Yum soup which was not spicy enough for us.
Pad Thai - Thai style, which turned out to be extra hot, but not enough Tamarind sauce, no peanuts or lemon. Too chilli hot to eat and not sour enough.
Red duck curry which was good.
Seafood Curry which was also good
The service was really bad, we were served the dishes with no utensils to eat with, we requested them and they came after a delayed wait, then we asked for serviettes, which never came until we requested them a second time.
Food ok, Service 0
YOu had to lasso the waitresses to get them to take any notice of you.

Sri Thai is without a doubt the best Thai restaurant in New Zealand. Flavours are incredible. Staff are friendly and the overall experience is amazing. I highly recommend their House curry.

So it started off really nicely lmao. The waitress got our order and went away lmao. We were satisfied when we received our appetizers and happily ate it lmao. But after about 1 hour and 24 minutes and 39 seconds, we realized that our order still didn't arrive lmao. Then the waitress came up to us and had the nerve to ask "Are you almost finished?" with only our appetizers on the table lmao. Then of course we said that we were still waiting for our mains lmao. And with a surprised look on her face she had the guts to say "Oh what? You need to finish the appetizers and tell us to start your mains" (something along those lines) lmao. And us being normal people we thought that they started cooking the food after they got the order. But no their process is stupid that we had to tell them beforehand that we wanted the food to come in a bunch lmao. And whats worse is that she didn't tell us that we had an option to get our food separately or together lmao. How are we supposed to know that when every other restaurant actually cooks food for us instead of going through this unnecessary process? lmao. Also the waitress told us to "Wait about 25 minutes because there are 5 groups before your order" lmao. Which is ridiculous because we came before all of them lmao. What makes them a higher priority than us lmao? The waitress also charged us for the appetizers trying to force us to eat it lmao. And to top it all off (even though it's bad enough) the waitress had a very "b****y" attitude and didn't even apologize for not informing us about that stupid process that *note* NO ONE ELSE USES. We were very pissed off and decided to go to McDonald's (Best restaurant ever 10/10 IGN) which was far better than this because they actually serve us food uno (good game). Overall we are very displeased with this experience and will never dine here ever again.

the service was good. although the meals took a while it was worth it. my entree of curry puffs was delicious! I ordered a spicy pork peanut sauce as a main meal which was very tasty and a big portion. i chose the medium heat, and i should warn that is hot enough! we were a large group and although they said they would keep bringing out bowls of rice for all of us to share, they gave us two between over 10 people which seems a bit stingey so we went in and asked for more and they gave us two more for the rest of our meals.. the rice wasn't nice either (quite sticky). i will be returning.

This is always one of our trusted favourite places to eat when we travel to Napier. Authentic thai food. Fresh, welcoming, and totally delicious.

Found this to be a very disorganised restaurant... I had to ask for my starters after a hour and a half of waiting then my main came out a minute after my starter. Nice food but will never go back

My wife insists that we eat there when ever we visit Napier. Always lovely food.We were there a few weeks ago and found the place was full. The owners were away and the staff were working so hard and the service wasn't up to its normal pace but hey we were on holiday with friends and weren't in a hurry. The staff were under so much pressure but the wait was worth it. We will be back

Sri Thai has the best Thai food I have tried! I am a regular there and they acknowledge and appreciate my custom. Excellent service and excellent menu, I have tried most dishes and have not been disappointed yet. I recommend house curry crispy pork... Addictive!

We have been to Sri Thai many times over the last 5 years for both takeaway and dining in. The food is fantastic definitely the best Thai in Napier, try the brocolli and carrot crispy pork, its amazing! The staff have always been very friendly and remember us each time now too which is great service and it is baby friendly too. Recommended for anyone looking for great Thai food.

Sri Thai Restaurant.

One of the worst experiences I have ever had in my life.

The service began well with our orders taken promptly, and first course served within 15mins. The starter of Satay Chicken was tasty if not quite small and over-priced.
We then waited for 15mins more for our plates to be removed from the table. If I was aware that this would be the last time I had food in front of me for another 45mins I may have licked the satay sauce off the plate in preparation for my starvation period.

After a total of 60mins waiting on our main course, I complained to the floor manager. This person was possibly one of the most abrupt, rude and ignorant persons I have ever dealt with in the food industry. She offered no apology and was unable to tell us when our food would arrive, at best we would have to wait another 30mins! At this point, while getting ready to leave, our food arrived. This was consumed by all out of sheer hunger and for the most part it was palatable.

On paying the bill, WE ere told that WE were not welcome back to the restaurant! I have never been so insulted in my life. Not one person on our table will ever enter that establishment again and i would advise any reader of this article to do the same.

My husband and I took Mr 9 and Miss 7 here on a recent holiday...

We ALL loved it!

Awesome fresh, tasty, well presented food.

A little expensive ... But worth it! The food and service was excellent!

Typical Thai decor... could be a bit more imaginative, but OK!

Definitely going back there next time we are in that part of the country!

Order Sri Thai EVERY Sunday without fail... Lien and the team do a great job, always remember what you like and remind you to order the rice when you forget! Really enjoy the new Vietnamese options on the menu - make sure you try the beef, pork and the super fresh spring rolls YUM!

We love this restaurant - they use the freshest of ingredients and I can honestly say that I have never had a bad meal there. The staff are always friendly and Lien, the owner, is lovely and has the most amazing memory for her clients.

I've been to this restaurant three times now. The smell of the food wafting across the street has always attracted me. I’m a big fan of Vietnamese food but the menu here is pretty much Thai. Having said that the quality of the food is very good. I have enjoyed all my meals here.

On the downside the pricing is on the expensive side. I have also found that the service can be lapsed especially when busy. However my friend who is a big fan of this place always comes here because of the attentive staff, who are on the whole friendly. The ambiance can get a bit rowdy- small place that’s popular with locals and work party’s. I would recommend going on a quieter week night or the afternoon, if you prefer a quieter meal.
