Review Cappadonna - Napier

Lisa Pearse
Cappadonna Cafe serves one of the best burgers in the North Island - we travel a lot in our motorhome & this cafe consistently serves up a great burger with fries when we visit (better than Burger Fuel!). Lots of other nice food as well. The large coffee is also excellent & we are fussy coffee people. Great comfortable outdoor seating & service is excellent too with friendly helpful staff. Well done!! Highly recommend. A++++

I stopped in for a latte that was one of the best I have had in a while. It was very strong but I love it that way. Then I had to try a lolly cake. I had read that this is a unique thing in New Zealand and wanted to try one. It is like a brownie with lollies baked inside. It is very sweet and could only eat a small portion of it but enjoyed the experience.

Looking for a bite to eat while a little worse for wear. Great little place. With great friendly staff. And outdoor seating. Food was great and the service was fast. Only negative. Through no one's fault. There were three homeless people walking through the outdoor seating area looking for money... Sad to see this at 8 am in the morning. And not the Cafe fault.

Delicious somptous deserts and coffee choices. I had the Chai latte with Almond milk and it was amazing. Rich and sweet with a lot of kick. As deserts, we could wait to try them before I took the picture. It was a thick and creamy cheesecake and a delicious muffins. Good service, polite but slow for the coffee and tea.. We were done eating when they got to our table.

Sit in the sun, sip on your flat white and watch the World go by under the palm trees surrounded by Art Deco buildings ... seriously why wouldn’t you!

Great little Cafe where dogs are welcome at the outdoor seating (they even provided our pooches with water!). Highly recommend the Big Breakfast, well portioned and delicious. Coffee was spot on, although they also do great smoothies! Thanks team!

Really great menu and cabinet food choices. Coffee was also good. Recommend the simple but extremely tasty bacon buttie. Quite a decent size so really didn’t need the salted caramel cheesecake on top.. but couldn’t resist as it looked (and tasted) so good!

Just had lunch here today.

There was quite a wide spread of cabinet foods and lunch menu to choose from. As the cabinet foods looked very inviting, we decided to have kumara & bacon bake, chicken cranberry & Brie panini. They tasted pretty good.

We had flatwhites, they were aromatic and tasted good too. We finished off our lunch with mixed berry cheesecake brownie as dessert. The brownie was very good, moist and yet not overly sweet, real yum!

The staff were friendly and efficient.

Food & Beverage : 7/10
Service : 6/10
Price : 6/10
Ambience : 6/10

Nice coffee, perfect location. Got everything I need in such a lovely city. The cakes are very nice too. It was not at peak time. So the service was very quick.

The cabinet food was presented amazing but it was all very average, the ambiance wasn’t amazing as the interior was quite dark. I would say this is one of the worst cafe experiences

Came here during morning and didn't feel welcome, wouldn't say it was a child friendly cafe, panini was okay and the coffee was great! However I probably wouldn't return especially if I had my child.

Really really like this place it was very busy and that always have the table set up outside so it's easy to find. I had the veggie salad and chicken egg slice

The food was good BUT the service was very poor.
I ordered one Mocha and one cheese cake and they made me wait for 20 minutes. Besides, the waiter was very unfriendly.

Being a Sunday morning, we were looking for somewhere for brunch and strangely, this cafĂ© appeared to be the only option available in the whole of Napier City. Service was quick, which as was the case, is not always a great sign. The cafĂ© feels industrial, not in a niche vogue way, more a factory or chain like way. I wandered out the doors to the seating outside, it was a lovely day on the East Coast and the cafĂ© was brimming with visitors, due to its seeming monopoly over the city’s cafĂ© market. On the way out I passed the glassless watercooler, fish and chip style magazine pile and toy box designed to appease waiting families. The mimeographed structure and implements added to this heartless aroma, confirmed by my meal. The pancakes felt mass-produced, duped with sweeteners, berry and maple syrups. The pancakes themselves had no taste, only a rubbery texture. As I sat outside, under a heavy afternoon sun, which arrived at least 3 hours early, I sucked orange juice out of a single-serve plastic bottle and enjoyed a thick ice-chocolate. CafĂ© Cappadonna provided the goods necessary for a hot day traveling the East Coast and did so in a timely and efficient manner.

Nice sunny but very windy day in Napier. Drove from Ahurriri into town to have lunch. Decided on t the Cappadonna in the main street.

Their selection of cabinet food was terrific. I was very impressed with the variety of treats.

We ended up sharing a gourmet sandwich and had a banana berry smoothie. Yum.

Nice spot, nice food.

Easily one of the best lunches I've ever had. Sitting outside was lovely in the great weather, seems a little noisy on the inside but looks nice. Food was brilliant and the service was too. I had a burger and really enjoyed it, easily the best cafe burger I've had. My friends had cabinet food and were very happy with it and impressed with the added side salad. Overall great experience. Will definitely pop into for lunch next time I'm in Napier

Nice little cafe with around 25 tables outside. Gravity coffee bean is the one they using.

2mins coffee serving time
13mins three dishes serving time. (We are the first order of the day I reckon, second table was longer waiting time next to us)
Staff are all very nice

Cabinet food 8/10
nice and tidy set up, good quality, big value.

Coffee. Two regular lattes been ordered. 6/10
Nice milk emollience and average presentation but espresso been burnt a little bit.

Big breakfast, eggs Benedict, eggs on toast are the three dishes we ordered

7/10 on big breakfast. Cherry tomato, Ciabatta bread, poached eggs, mushrooms, deep fried potatoes with tomato sauce and bacons are on the plate. Bacon can be crisper. Potato can be deep fried less. Personally, I would like hash browns on plate more than deep fried potatoes in the early morning.

5/10 on egg Benedict. Broken egg with Too much hollandaise on plate. Chef might want to cover the egg. At lease it means he does care his dish. This one was the only point and dish made us disappointed.

9/10 kids egg on toast was good.

Overall I would say they are doing well. I will come back if I visit again Napier.

Absolute rubbish. There were only three people coffeeing or waiting for orders when myself and daughter parked outside and entered. We were there for five minutes standing at counter whilst a young brunet and blonde chatted about boyfriends and customers. There were people waiting for coffees and I did not hear nor see coffee machine working once. After five minutes of this and the two girls behind the counter starting to whisper as even they had released their tales of debauchery weren't actually all that debuached, nor interesting, I had to walk out and twenty metres away found excellent coffee and service and a better street outlook at another cafe.

Good riddance to Crappadoona.

Whenever we are in town Cappadonna is our first visit for our coffee fix, always great coffee and the best iced coffee in town.
Today I had the creamy chicken pasta and it was amazing, I've had it before but especially loved it today my husband always has an omelette and as usual it was perfect.
Keep up the good work Cappa, you have a great crew of friendly staff always a pleasure to see everyones smiling faces.

On the 7th of January myself my mother and sister in law went into Cappadonna for lunch expecting a lovely time with lovely food, we were very wrong.
After walking into the cafe I did not see one smile on any of the workers faces no one created us or even took any notice of us being there.
We went ahead and ordered our food and sat down outside, drinks and my mothers food arrived promptly but myself and sister in law had to wait a further 45 minutes to receive our meals. After our long wait we were excited to start eating but sadly the excitement went after I started eating, my pasta dish had no flavour what so ever even after using salt there was still nothing, the chicken and bacon were also very tasteless, I could only manage a few mouthfuls then had to stop, it felt like i was eating card bored. No one came over to our table to see if our meals were okay nor did anyone come when i waved them down.
I have eaten at Cappadonna before and been very happy with the food but the service has always been a little off, this time was it for me I will not be returning or letting my friends and family know about Cappadonna.

Up in Napier browsing the city streets day after Boxing Day and elected to go and a coffee and the proverbial muffin at Cappadonna.
Most impressed with the service, coffee and wait for it....the savoury muffin was the jewel in the crown. How often do you have a savoury muffin at a cafe which is stodgy and flavourless with maybe a speck or two of bacon and some onion. . Not so this one, it was laced with generous bits of onion, bacon and tomato and the muffin texture was fresh and tasty.
I liked the layout of the cafe, sitting at the front with the window open watching all the tourist activity.
Well done....wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place.

I took my boyfriend out for breakfast. Went to Cappadona as it was recommend. The coffee was amazing. My partner ordered the big breakfast, the potatoes weren't cooked properly, the mushrooms were flavourless, the egg was still half raw and to his horror the sausage was rotten!! He is a chef so knows his food and can be fussy but this sausage was un eatable. It was really disappointing after being told by so many friends to go there!

I was utterly shocked at the service my daughter and I received as we walked into Cappadonna Cafe, no Hello how are you, customer service was non-existent. But what we did get was "What do you guy's want" In a rather rude voice, I walked back out of the shop and doing so the lady said the coffee machine has already been turned off. My daughter and I were wanting something to eat, and the cabinet's were still fill of food, but we choose to go else where and spend our money after been spoken to like that. We now refuse to ever go back there again after being treated like that.

Am quite particular about my coffee and have had great coffee each time I have visited which has brought me back again. The decor is slick and modern, but the atmosphere inside is much more relaxed, made more so by the friendly staff and fast service. I haven't had any of the experiences mentioned in past reviews. Tables are always cleared quickly, and I like that there's usually the day's newspaper handy. I've become particularly fond of the ginger muffins.
