Review Donburi-ya - Napier

Seoyon Park
I love this place, have done since their opening. Their food never disappoints and is very filling, good portion size for a big eater and healthy, too. I think their Sushi is top-notch having lived in Japan and traveled multiple times there. The variety they offer in both Sushi and Donburi are just amazing! Highly recommend.

Delicious food, polite service, and generous portions. We were there just a bit after the lunch rush, and there were still local business professionals, groups of Chinese friends, and Japanese families enjoying themselves. I definitely recommend!

I love this place. Everything is super tasty. The space is quite small so it can get very busy.

One of the best Japanese restaurants in Hamilton! The prices are very reasonable and the sushi is the best I've had in Hamilton, the ramen is also very authentic and delicious. The only downside is that they are only open weekdays! The sushi selection is superb and you must try it without soy sauce as most of the sushi have great flavour already.

Beautiful Donburi and Udon noodle soup, lovely pot of tea too. Reminiscing about our treks in Shikoku. Thank you

My go-to sushi cafe. Always fresh, always tasty. Excellent welcoming and friendly staff. Look no further if you're after good sushi.

Absolutely fantastic. By far the best sushi I've had in NZ, the donburi's are delicious and quite sizable. Everything is really well priced. Just go.

First time here. Very good front of house service. Great food. Had pork katsu, very tasty and good size serving. Well worth a try.

Drive from Auckland for the spices noodles. 10/10

A decent Japanese establishment in Hamilton (rarity for it to be authentic). The dons are reasonably priced and service was good despite the lunch time rush. Hefty serving of vegetables which was nice.

Absolutely loved everything we had!! We got spicy tonkotsu ramen and a shoyu ramen, the broth was delicious, noodles were cooked perfectly and the pork was stunning! We also got sushi and every piece was delicious as well, its rare to see Unagi (eel) sushi in Hamilton but the ones here were delicious! Would definitely come back again :) Only bad thing is that it isn’t open for dinner or during the weekends :(

I just love this place.
Fave Japanese place in Hamilton for sure.
Their ramens are the best ive had in NZ! Ive only been to Auckland & Wellington but still!
Vegeterian spicy miso & just vegeterian miso.
Also, they have insanely delicious donburi with the best flavour! Excellent proportion with rice & salad. No picture.
Wish they would open on Saturdays as I work too far away to visit during weekdays but when I have time off, I always make the effort to come here!!! Plus they are so lovely!

Real Authentic Japanese cuisine
Always a little busy place during lunch and it's because their food is so good!
The sushi, ramen and donburi is a must try!
You can also customize your donburi by adding more rice or salad!

One of my favorite places in town for Japanese donburi, decent portions with fresh salads served. They also have a variety of sushi and ramen on the menu. Good place to have a cheap and satisfying meal.

Pretty nice ramen, have a tang to it. Ramen is springy, not too soft, not too hard. Love it! Tonkatus ramen. Oh and the Ramune carbonated soft drink is good too.

Really love the donburi, especially the salmon. Super dissapointed that they don't do dinner anymore though - used to eat here most weeks before the change. Service is really good and the atmosphere is nice. More affordable than most japanese places

I was a bit disappointed when they changed focus from specialising in donburi to sushi, I've always felt like this city has more than enough sushi places already, but the sushi turned out to be a level higher than most run of the mill sushi places in Hamilton, they taste quite delicate and proper. Some donburi dishes are also kept on the menu so it's sorta like a win-win.

Friendly service. Big portions. Feels satisfied after food.
Ordered lunch set kariyaki chicken and chicken katsu. Came with miso soup as well.

I have been wanting to come here for sometime now. Got in today to get the lunch special. Super good value for money!! I would defiantly recommend it. My only complaint would be that the shop is rather small, it was packed around lunch time.

Donburi Ya is a fantastic authentic japanese restaurant and a great cultural experience. This is a great alternative to the common Donburi Takeaway

My partner and I dropped in lastnight were just going to do takeaway but dined in was nice service, clean, tasty food and so affordable couldn't believe what we got for our money and it was quality food.

Great place to eat if your after a tasty well presented Japanese meal but wish to enjoy a cafe style atmosphere. The staff and service are excellent and attentive and the prices are fair and affordable. Highly recommend.

Authentic, tasty Japanese food. Extremely good value for money. Staff are always helpful and the restaurant is always immaculately clean. Can do smaller main portions - good for kids.

If you love Japanese rice bowl dishes, this is the place.
Amazing donburi served here.
The ingredients they use are fresh (seafood ones taste great) and service is great.
I would come here every time I'm in Hamilton.

A great place to come to after a year in Japan and having a hankering for proper Japanese donburi! (None of that food court 'make-your-own-donburi' business, thank you very much!)

The food always tastes fresh and delicious- and it is the only place that I know of where I can buy taiyaki!

The staff are fabulous (and always willing to converse with me and my terrible Japanese), and the place is very clean and cosy.

This is one of my favourite Japanese restaurants in New Zealand, if not my favourite. A lot of its success rests on the limit of the menu- they make a certain thing and do it well (which is how restaurants work in Japan!).

Everyone should visit at least once, if not many times!

Really love this place . The owners Meg and Ken are great. Always smiling and happy. The food is delicious and fulling . Its a very clean and well presented little restaurant. The wait staff are awesome. Highly recommend this place , have been a few times now and the owners already know my name.

I was really impressed with the customer service when I went to Donburi-Ya with my 2 children tonight. Staff were really friendly and helpful and the food was great. They were thoughful about the childrens meals eg offering to ommit or put the dressing on the side for the childrens dishes. We all enjoyed our meals and even my daughter commented on their friendliness.

Newest Japanese restaurant in Hamilton and we found it almost by mistake. WOW is all I can say. Having been to japan a few times it is like walking into a small cafe in Tokyo. Warm welcome, small and cosy, and GREAT FOOD. It is what most Japanese would call home cooking or comfort food and it is wonderful. They even have Japanese beers. The owners are both native Japanese that are now "kiwis" and here to stay and are behind the counter and in the kitchen. For a truly Japanese experience it is a must stop. Definitely going back and telling all my friends.
