Review Mama Cod - Nelson

Omg we went here on New Year's Eve and it was amazing. It was that awesome we actually went there 2x while staying in Nelson. Just for the cocktails and well we loved the vibe of this place. We had ordered the Seafood Tower and I must say it was amazing. Everything I love about seafood it was fresh and tasty it was a perfect dinner for two. This place had the best selection of cocktails we tried about 3each I think and if your here I highly recommend the Rose and Hibiscus Daiquiri was the best!!! Service was fantastic, the vibe and place was very cool. If in Nelson 100% worth checking out.

Great service. Good pricing for lunch, and when our dessert was late in arriving we were offered coffee which we were not charged for. Would highly recommend. They have a large selection of alcoholic beverages as well. Nice location and they do have outdoor seating. Food very good.

Absolutely love this place, I drink and eat here at least once a week. The staff have incredible service and are so amazing at what they do. Nick and the team at mama cod are always welcoming! You MUST try the blueberry chichi cocktail and the salmon poke! Fresh delish food and 5 star cocktails. Highly recommend

A 'must visit' when in Nelson if you are a foodie...superbly cooked meal with an array of taste delights in what we had. Cannot speak highly enough about the whole dining experience. Staff were great, atmosphere was spot on and well apointed...a great location for a group dinner or romantic night out for two...strongly recommended.

Must come! Great ambience, service and quality food. They’ve got lobster roll lunch sets from 11-4pm! Must try their lobster bisque, platter was slightly underwhelming but will come back to have their individual big plates instead!

This was a very memorable meal. Fine dining at its best. One of the best sea food meals ever. Fantastic ambience and even better service. Highly recommended!

Only got to spend a few days in Nelson yet this place was so amazing we had to go back twice with no regrets. Top notch service friendly and personalized. Extensive cocktail menu which was to die for and the food well that was just the cherry on top. Highly recommend thanks guys for everything

I was expecting a great meal, good service and not a loud atmosphere. Guess what I got? A perfect night with a very nice meal. The beer and wine were also outstanding. Go along and enjoy the experience for yourself ��

We dine here regularly for brunch, lunch and dinner. The staff are friendly the atmosphere classy and comfortable but what we also love & enjoy about this upmarket restaurant is the amazing wine list that you are able to buy by the glass plus their stunning cellar wines, they stock the finest spirits and of course make fantastic signature cocktails. After a two year battle to get my partner (who used to be a burger and chips kinda guy) to accompany me to the cod and lobster we were warmly welcomed and seated in the dining area. Even though the owners were not around the customer service was still second to none, which in this day and age is hard to come by. Once we were served our mains my partner then stated 'I can't name a single thing on this plate other than steak but everything tastes amazing!' I can't recommend cod and lobster enough! Thank you Nick and Kymberly! Keep up the awesome work!

We had no reservation but were fortunate that early diners were departing. We preferred to sit in the bar area and were thoroughly impressed with efficient and knowledgeable staff. We were advised of daily specials when the menus were delivered, which was prompt. It was an ultra busy Sunday evening whereby we enjoyed a superb, relaxed dining experience. I only ordered a small meal; my husband really impressed with his 2 courses, especially the Whitebait fritter. Extensive wine card, realistic prices with a good range of wine by the glass. Reading the cocktail selection was entertaining - can recommend the Lavender Margarita! 128 Gins - should keep any soak satisfied. We shall return, without a doubt.

I went there expecting top notch food. I wasn't disappointed. Service couldn't be faulted. If not in NZ, I would have tipped the waitress. She was delightful. Wine list extremely comprehensive. First class experience for me. I'll be back!

My partner and I brunched here yesterday and have nothing but good things to say. He had the Pork and Apple sausage brunch and I had the baked eggs. We both agreed how flavourful our meals were and definitely good sizes for brunch meals. Definitely recommend to anyone who is thinking about going but hasn't yet. You'll be well impressed.

Not 100% forgot our entree, lamb was overcooked but still loved every bite was delish cocktails went down a treat !!!

Excellent food, very prompt service and attentive service. Friendly staff took a moment to chat with me. Blue Cod was amazingly delicious. A must stop for anyone on holiday in Nelson. And worth several stops if you are in this town for a long holiday.

We had a very delicious snapper dinner. We sat outside and listened to a fabulous guitar player who played Neil Young, Cat Stevens and James Taylor songs. He had a marvelous voice and actually sounded like Neil Young. He also sang some original songs as well. It was a very special evening for us!! Thank you. What was the performing artist’s name?

We recently hosted a suprise 60th dinner at Cod and Lobster for my Mum. From the minute I contacted them about hosting a large group they were helpful, easy to communicate with and above all, friendly. Jen put together a fantastic set menu and the Cathedral room was the perfect setting. Jake looked after us on the night and there are no words to explain how good at his job he is! He knew everyones name (all 24 people!) and what they were drinking! He was friendly, helpful and just all round perfect at his job. The food was incredible and served beautifully, cooked to perfection. All these factors combined ensured we had a wonderful night and Mum was just blown away. Thank you so much Cod and Lobster, there aren't enough stars on this rating so 5 will have to do!

Nice tasty food. Very small portion. Friendly service, ellegant restaurant. I think a bit overpriced for the quantity, even for a fine dining restaurant

Food was really good with great taste , friendly staff but i have only complaint -i ordered beef and was served tuna , I couldn't complain at first because i have never had tuna before , i wasnt sure what i was eating until i paid the bill ,but food is good

Service excellent, Food ho hum. My lamb was excellent with its broad beans accompaniment. My friends ordered the sharing fish platter for 2. It was " average." A lot of bread and some calamari that they wouldn't eat although they are calamari fans. My young friend had a pawn dish, falling off the sodes of a lunch plate. Would have been better on a larger plate. We won't hurry back.

My favourite place in Nelson for a treat! The seafood platter is deceivingly filling. You get so many different things on there which you don't necessarily see at first sight. If you're not starving, this would make a really nice meal for 2. If you are, just order some of the beautiful sides, or a main. This is what my husband and I usually do.<br/><br/>There are also seasonal variations to parts of the platter, just to keep this interesting.<br/><br/>I love the service, atmosphere and drinks list here. Pity we didn't live in Nelson long enough to fully explore their menu (perhaps we just stubbornly stuck to our favorite seafood platter too each time we visited..... ;P)

<br/>It's not as good as the hype. It's an average restaurant with average menu that is trying to be up-market. I think there is an identity crisis here. If they focused more on the food and less on trying to be up-market, then it would be okay. Overpriced for average food. The only good thing going for it was the service, hence why it's getting a generous 2 and a half stars

We both started with the twice cooked hoisin pork belly and it was absolutely beautiful. For my main I had the blackened Ora King salmon and it was perfectly cooked. I didn't love the corn that came with it. We shared some truffle fries and they were lovely - not greasy, crunchy outside and fluffy inside. I love creme brulee so the French earl grey creme brulee was the obvious choice even though I don't drink tea. The tea flavour was quite subtle and the texture was amazing. The service was friendly and knowledgeable.

This place was recommended to us by the moteler and was well worth the short walk to have dinner. Steak was great cooked to perfection as was the Blue Cod. Good size meals - you will need to be hungry to finish everything. Only negative would be the waitress who tried too hard and ended up being OTT. Definitely go back if I was passing through again.

The cocktails here are highly recommended & the service is outstanding. We were treated with friendly & unobtrusive service & were served freshly prepared produce with prices which were not over the top
