Review Tides Bar And Eatery - Nelson

First time here and we were incredibly blown away. The atmosphere was so warm and welcoming but feels like fine dining. The service was extremely fast. We received complementary appetisers. The meal was incredible and was out less than 20 minutes after ordering. We shared a lamb platter between 2 and still had a whole meal left over from it. The meat was succulent and was perfectly paired with a delicious selection of vegetables. We added the roasted broccoli and it was topped with the creamiest garlic butter. The desserts , weโ€™ll look for yourself , incredible. Will be returning everything we visit Nelson.

Wow!! Second time in Nelson...first time here...damn...the food is good!!! Classy, tasty, well presented...and beautiful flavour combinations....The staff is super friendly and super efficient!! They really look after their customers...The outdoor setting was amazing even with warm, fuzzy mini blankets just in case the weather doesn't play along. I would love to go back again and explore other dishes....AND...we had tasty entree samples ( for free)!! Well done staff and management.

Good meal. Bit pricey but a premium dining experience. Bring some sun glasses as it's very bright outside in the evenings. Staff were nice and food was tasty. Lots of GF options also which was great. Warning though, theThai salad is a bit more spicy than advertised on the menu

Great food, service was over and above, especially for our 6 year old. Very helpful, friendly staff and meals were quickly provided. A lovely family celebration, thank you Team The Tides.

We had our dinner there last week. Great dinning atmosphere especially if you can book a table by window. Very friendly staff & good service. we have not seen hot tower service for a while in most NZ restaurants. Food taste very delicious. especially the seafood chowder The chief use very fresh ingredient & portion is good too. Definitely recommend this restaurant to people.

We went out as a large group for dinner. Service was quick, the staff friendly and professional, the food was nicely presented but the alcove where we were seated was a sound trap and you could barely hear each other also while others food was good my pork parmagan was more gristle and tough. Not nice at all.

We dined here for dinner 3 times in one week while we were staying in Nelson. The food & service was excellent without fault. The fish, ribeye, venison & confit duck were cooked to perfection along with beautiful sides of veges & potatoes. Kudos to the chef. The best place to dine in Nelson!

Friendly staff and good drinks selection. The meals were delicious and catered to different sizes and diets. There is a nice view and a bunch of games and things for kids to play which takes the pressure off us to entertain our little one while enjoying a meal. Plus they got us in with not a problem on short notice when a couple of other places in town turned us away. A little on the expensive side but overall happy with the experience

over all a nice place to dine at, food is nice and well presented, service is great and all staff are kind and friendly, ok why not 5 stars then, what on earth is that piece of A4 paper you put on the table for the menu, surely you could afford some nice folders to put the menu in along with a drinks list which you dont have. and whats with having tap beer but none was available, come on guys this would be simple to fix, i would also like to thank you for replying back to your customers on this site. kind regards robin and elsa

Only thing is it is pricey the food when eating out for two people, would be great if they had some options on specials each night that is discounted.

We celebrated our 60th wedding anniversary at Tides last Saturday. It was an outstanding success made possible by the thoughtful and efficient staff. There were 25 of us for lunch and everyone was so impressed and happy with the venue, service and food. Thankyou Tides from all 25 of us.

We were staying at Trailways and went to the Tides for a drink to cap off the evening. Great bar service and range of drinks. Barman made drink for one of our party in request even though not on the menu.

In Nelson for work for about the 4th time in 9 months and each time I seem to be put up in a different hotel, so it was Trailways this time around. I was here for a couple of days, so my review actually spans a couple of dinners and also breakfast as well. Note that both my dinner's were room service ordered so I can't comment on too much about the restaurant and how busy or not it was in the evening, although I was in the same restaurant for breakfast 2 mornings in a row.

The hotel is located right next to the main city centre so you don't have to eat at the Tides Restaurant if you don't want to. The restaurant is sparse, but well presented and modern looking - but has a stunning view of the river alongside it.

Staff that I dealt with for breakfast and those delivering my meals were friendly and attentive, dressed in uniform black. In fact I thought the breakfast staff were really friendly and quick to clear my table.

The breakfast consists of what you would normally expect; a cooked breakfast selection and a continental buffet with the option of combining and having both or having an express breakfast which just consists of juices, coffee/tea and toast. There is also an a la carte selection on the menu as well featuring the usual breakfast favourites. The cooked breakfast selection is a choice of bacon, hash browns, sausages, eggs (to your liking) and grilled tomato. The breakfast isn't anything to scream about - the hashbrowns are standard store bought hashbrowns etc but it comes out hot and and if your eggs are scrambled, the eggs are nice and creamy. Considering the price of around $20 it was a pretty sparse plate of food for the price, but what was there, was nice.

Dinner on my first night, I opted for light meals on both nights - I had pork schnitzel, which came with a potato bake ( I added a side of veges), spinach and not quite an apple sauce I don't think. There was a drizzle of balsamic around the plate as well, which actually really added to the flavour of the pork. I wasn't so keen on the sauce itself however. The veges, not a huge amount of them, but what was there was great.

On my second night I had a chicken, bacon and mushroom pasta with a creme fraiche sauce. Can't say much about this other than loved it. It was probably one of the better pasta dishes I have had in a while. Again, not quite enough of it, but it was a light meal - but a light meal pitched in the mid 20s is a bit rich (excuse the pun).

The prices generally on the menu are high but the quality is also fairly high, however based on the number of hotels and restaurants I have eaten at, this has to rate as one of the more expensive with some mains into the high 30s - but credit where credit is due, it is also one of the better hotel restaurant meals I have eaten as well. Whether I dine here again isn't actually up to me but to my workplace, but I would happily recommend it for a special occasion meal - and hope to take my wife to Nelson one day and have her dine here as well.

What are you thinking, clearly not here for the locals?? How can you justify $36 for a steak and scallop potatoes then having to pay $4.50 for vegetables on top, this style of pricing is so 90s with 2014 pricing, would not ever go back

I bring a group of 20 or more people to The Tides most months for a business luncheon, and I have to say that every single time it surpasses our expectations. The food is always beautiful, the desserts are heavenly(!) everything is fresh and portions are good. The management are always very helpful and glad to see us, the staff are friendly and nothing is too much trouble. They've gone the extra mile for us a couple of times, and that means a lot. We always look forward to our luncheons by the river at the Tides.

Very classy restaurant. The decor is minimalistic with a nice fancy candle and no tacky artwork. Had a few vegetarian options one of which was a filo pastry which I ordered and thoroughly enjoyed. My only issue was that they had a full bar running, yet when I ordered a lemon, lime and bitters I was provided with a Bundaberg one in a bottle when I would have expected (and preferred)one that was made by the bartender as the taste is quite distinct. Anyways, the dessert was also very good and we left the restaurant with a good taste in our mouths.
