Review Wafu Bistro - Nelson

Was visiting Nelson and dining solo, so sat at the only spot left - at the sushi bar. It was mesmerizing watching the obviously very skilled chef making nigiri and sashimi right in front of me! The service was fantastic and friendly, the food was great and overall vibe really nice. It's a cool room, and a very pleasant dining experience. Highly recommend.

The sushi is absolutely delicious, the environment is beautiful, and the service is very attentive. The Thai waitress is a treasure here, she is gracious and welcoming. I will come again next time.

Absolutely amazing. By far one of the best sushi places in New Zealand. Authentic. It's pricey but worth it for that special occasion ☺️ Really quiet and nice atmosphere too. Make a reservation because it can get busy sometimes!

Excellent quality and very fresh fish. Better booking in advance because there are not many tables. Nice seating in front of the sushi chef.

Soooo delicious…. I thought I didn’t like seafood, but went to tea with a group here and found no chicken donburi on the menu 🤣.🤷‍♂️ Couldn’t really pick anything so ordered the Rata (mix of different sashimi nigiri and poki?!) and loved every single bite!! I’m genuinely amazed, as is my partner!

What a great place. Visited alone, was seated at the bar in front of the chef, and had a chat with him - he's Japanese, you'll be in good hands. The tuna sashimi were fresh & delicious, followed by a sushi roll, so smooth. Fresh beyond doubt. Wish such a place was in my town, would come back any time...

I've spent some time in Japan.... living and working in Nagoya for almost a year. I like to think I have a bit of experience with Japanese cuisine. Had a very nice dinner at Wafu Bistro in Nelson NZ Fresh delicious food, courteous friendly staff. Presentation was beautiful, food was delicious. One of my best Japanese meals outside of Japan. Will definitely be back.

The thing I loved most about Nigiri and Sashimi in Japan was the vibrancy and presentation of the food - like eating a meticulously created work of art. It's great to know that now I can get the same experience in Nelson. The food was fresh and amazing. The service was thoughtful, without being suffocating (I immensely dislike being asked how everything is every ten minutes) and the Sake options were on point. If you want to impress out of town guests, or have visitors from Japan that are pining for a taste of home, or just want to take that special someone out for something well... special, then I HIGHLY recommend this place. This is not a paid endorsement lol. We'll definitely see you again soon! どうもありがとうございます!
