Review Squires Pub & Cafe Ltd - Nelson

As Stoke locals we had surprisingly not been here for breakfast before. While a lovely spot for a cold ale in the sun, we had not tried the food, so off we go! Turning up at 9am, there was a perfect spot out the front in the sun for us to enjoy our breakfasts. I ordered the Squires Big Breakfast: hash browns, mushrooms, tomato, bacon, sausages and 2 eggs on ciabata toast. This was a decent size and cooked nicely. The bacon was tasty and crispy and the poached eggs were cooked well. My wife ordered the Eggs Benedict with Bacon. The hollandaise was very good, and again the eggs were cooked well, nice and runny. Top this off with a delicious flat white, and we were very happy! The service was excellent, with very friendly staff. Very quick, efficient and well priced. If you enjoy good food and sunshine, give them a spin!

We have been there before for breakfast and enjoyed it. Cheerful, quick service. This time we were there for a business meet over coffee. Quite busy, but not noisy. We were served quickly and were able to chat freely without being overheard or interrupted. Nice range of items on the menu, plus nice hot coffee. Worth a visit to this popular local eatery.

My partner and I had lunch at this cafe, and it was an absolute delight. Eva, our waitress, provided exceptional and attentive service, ensuring our food was made according to our preferences, which is something we’re usually too shy to ask for. The portion sizes were generous and the food was all fresh and yum! The iced coffee was the best I've had in a long time. Overall, a fantastic experience with friendly staff and delicious food. Highly recommended!

Stopped for a yummy breakfast. Fresh savoury scones and waffle was delicious and you could feel the freshness of ingredients. Highly recommended ☺️

Good food, good people, good coffee, good drinks. Can be a little expensive but you can always find something that fits your budget. There's always space for you and your group (and wheelchair(s)). Classic chill vibes pub, but I think a little more friend/food focused than most. Happy for you to sit and hang all day and not bother you or your group.

Food is fine, service is friendly and prompt. The atmosphere is often busy but the seating is spacious and comfortable. Menu is affordable, classic café fare.

Very friendly staff. :) Great coffee and a neat place. We love the corner with couches and a fire place.

Very friendly and accommodating staff, we had no booking because it was a last minute decision, but our group of 12 were welcomed, seated and served. The food was amazing. Amongst us, we ordered steak burgers, lamb shanks, chicken parmigiana and salmon risotto.

Not up to city standard of food cooking, recipe and presentation. Coffee was good but the rest is more pub like than cafe. No cafe cabinet food. Crumbed mushrooms from menu was a big ripoff. The veges with cooked meals have a tendency to be undercooked.

The service was horrible - rudest service I've ever had, every communication we had was with an angry grumpy service attendant & for no apparent reason. A small group of us went & all gobsmacked. None of us will go near the place again, & neither will the people I've told about it. Just one staff member - the younger ones seemed to be a bit more pleasant to other tables. It wasn't busy & the food & drinks ok.

"Eggs come as they come"<br/>Stopped in for breakfast and felt that the service was good, nice and attentive. We tried putting preference on our eggs but the server advised "sorry the eggs come as they come"<br/><br/>However, the food was another story. Ordered the "masters" full English breakfast with fried eggs and sunny side up. Received the food after a bit of a wait to get over cooked hard poached eggs. The ciabatta underneath was soggy from the poached eggs and there was a balsamic glaze swirled around the edge of the plate to give it an up market feel which only caused messy sleeves and sticky hands. <br/>

Very good "home-style" service and food.<br/><br/>The garlic bread was one of the better ones we've had.... Anchor and a few others could learn something from these folk..<br/><br/>One had the whitebait omelette which was actually more like an enormous fritter, but delicious, generous and served on a pile of thick cut, crunchy non-greasy chips and a nice wee side salad. <br/><br/>My fish of the day pan-fried with garlic cream sauce was beautifully cooked, it came with gourmet potatoes and wilted spinach which is where my only criticism is... the gourmet potatoes were nice but there were enough for two people and I couldn't even eat 1/2 however the wilted spinach was also nice but only one tiny small mouthfull about 6 x that amount would have been great..... I had to steal salad from the other two people...<br/><br/>So great in general ... but if you want something other than meat and potatoes order them separately.

A last minute catch up with friend lunch before xmas. The food was nice thank you, the service could have been a lot more friendly and helpful. We felt almost like it was an inconvienence to be there. It wasn't that busy to appear that stressed:(

Stopped for dinner on way to movie's.Service was super friendly and meals came out quickly after mentioning we where heading to movie"s.Wife had chowder as has this often when dinning out. Was wrapped and suggested this was the best she's had.I had lambs fry and bacon - enjoyed.WE had time for desert and was impressed with these also.Well done guys.
