We ordered the Duck Red Curry and Tom Yum Soup. The duck red curry has an interesting medly of green grapes, lychee and pineapples which gives a fruity sweetness to the mildly spicy curry. Contrary to the name, the red curry is actually creamy and scrumptious. A must-order for me.
The Thai Tom Yum was authentic and not watered down, with loads of spices and generous serving of prawns and mushrooms.
Will visit again if in the area.

Everything was Fantastic ! A cool rainy grey early evening ... Nice and warm and cosy inside with relaxing chilled music playing in the background. Great friendly attentive service. We ordered a mix of entree's that couldn't be faulted. . Fish Cakes, mini pork ribs, melt in your mouth lemon salt pepper calamari, chicken nibbles... then a main to share of "Chef's Special " spicy crispy crumbed chicken and fried rice ... Absolutely Delicious! And I Loved having Chard Farm Chardonnay : ) Thank You for a beautiful dinner !

This is the first time we have dined here. The table really was not big enough to fit glasses, extra drinks and our dishes. The food was good, the lamb Shanks were falling of the bone!! The sauce was a bit to sweet. The beef in the red curry was a little chewy... but loved the bamboo and Mini corn!! Appetizers were ok... nothing really stood out. Not a fan of the soup. What did stand out... is the service!! The staff was very professional and friendly. The service was outstanding... and many restaurants could learn from Tongtara Thai. Thank you.

This is the best Thai food and restaurant in Nelson and I would go as far to say the best we have tasted in New Zealand. Great subtle flavours in every dish and clearly fresh ingredients carefully prepped. The service was friendly and efficient. We were here on a cold winters night and it was warm and welcoming from the minute you stepped through the door. As we are locals, this is now our go to restaurant for Thai food.

Pretty spicy. Nice spot. Attentive service. Price is reasonable. Got a windrow seat and waitress took order promptly. Entrée arrived quickly and was tasty and enough to share. I ordered Thai hot and the waitress Das careful to check that I actually meant hot. It was hot and not overpowering. Overall a pet good meal.

The most closer taste to local Thai Food!And, I have been going 3 times in a month with my friends! Recommend the tomyam seafood soup, pineapple fried rice, pad thai and curry puff!
It's has special price during lunch hour, but there have dinner set too which can serve for 4 people.
If you are miss the Thai food like me, don't miss out this restaurant when you passed by Nelson!

Ordered for take away. The Golden Puffs actually used real puff pastry dough, so they were flaky and delicious, even after a 15 min car ride back home. The vegetarian Pad Thai (the small packs a lot of noodles in!) and the fish fillet with Panang Curry were both solid. They also threw in a free portion of rice. Service was lovely and is definitely return.
