Review Ali Baba's Gourmet Cafe - Nelson

The meat on chips is THE ultimate hangover cure. They use shoestring fries for the chips which are PERFECTLY cooked and seasoned - even after leaving my leftovers in the fridge for a couple of hours the fries were still crispy!? I got both the lamb and chicken - both of which were delicious. The owner is also super lovely. Would very highly recommend.

Definitely the best kebabs in Nelson!!! Have been coming here for many years when visiting Nelson and the food is always so tasty and full of flavour. Absolutely giving extra point for service too. The (owner?) is super friendly and very accommodating to any dietary requests. Will definitely keep going back!

Have been here on and off over the past 10+ yrs. Love the food. Have dined in a few times. Very pleasant. Love the coffee. Kebabs have always been my fave to get. But I've tried everything on their menu and can't fault a thing. Eskander is a big meal and enjoy it hot. Vegetarian options I actually like and will indulge regularly. And if I'm having a sweet tooth attack I can satisfy that too. Lovely people. Great service. Excellent food.

We ordered nine kebabs. The pleasant, courteous man worked quickly and skilfully to get the order ready in no time. He even 'threw in' some hot chips for the kids! The kebabs were SO tasty...a healthy takeaway that was delicious. Thank you.

I met the lovely Chef at Akbabas on a flight to Nelson and decided to come in and try and a Kebab. The service was absolutely fantastic and so was the food. The restaurant itself has a super cosy vibe and is nice to sit in. 10/10 recommend to anyone in the area, will defiantly be going back when I'm next in Nelson!

Absolutely amazing food, so quick too! The vegetarian zucchini kebabs are flipping epic. Always stop here if I am in Nelson.

Hands down the best Turkish in the south island!! I lived in nelson over 7 years ago... this was my regular weekly takeaways, and I still crave and dream of it! I know live in Christchurch, lots of options but no one has come close to akbabas!! My usual consists of a large chicken and falafel iskinder, chickens always juicy and fresh, the falafel are so fluffy and soft but still Crunchy on the outside and packed full of flavour! Salads are always fresh with the extra option of tabouli, yum!! The rice... omg it's almost the star of the dish I don't no what they put in it but its amazing!! All of this topped of with fresh delicious sauces and two types of hummus!! The service is amazing also, the owner?? (I think 🤔) is so lovely, welcoming and so easy to talk to!! I seriously recommend this amazing restaurant/takeaways!!

Consistently the best kebab in Nelson

I grew up in Nelson and have been coming to Akbabas since I was 19 years old. Absolutely love their souvlakis and salads, both the chicken and the lamb. The chicken is done in a really nice marinade. Great fresh food, good portion sizes with good prices. Highly recommend.

TOP PICK for Kebab!!!For 20 years this was the best Kebab in the South Island. It has slipped a little-not quite the mouth watering juiciness I remember.They were very busy though and still 9.la 9/9.5 out of 10. But very fast service and the staff managed to chat and cook at the same time. Most of the customer seemed to be Nelson locals so that tells you something. If that is a small I am glad I dont get a big. The big must feed 3 people lol. I really liked the guy/owner. SPEAKS CHINESE!!!

Best place in Nelson! The assistant is crack up! Definitely recommend to everyone! Large mixed meat kebab with sweet chilli and mayo is my go to!

I've been going to Akbaba's for about 15 years, the food has always been very good, and consistent, I buy the Ishkenda usually and it's always enough for dinner and lunch the next day. Support these guys.
