Review Cleaver & Co - New Lynn

Daniel-Jarrod Potter (ShadowS.I.C.K66)
The food and drinks were AMAZING and TASTY! The only reason its not 5 is because. A: After we were greeted and seated. The staff seemed to ignore us for quite awhile to the point where i felt i had to get up and take the menu to the counter to order. B: Personally the chips were way too cooked to the point where it was like eating on wood in my personal opinion. But other than that, the Steak...Was the BOMB!

A great place for a Monday night dinner, excellent service and food, the 2 for 1 burgers on Mondays was a nice surprise! First visit to Cleaver but won't be the last.

Lovely atmosphere. Great service. Food delicious.

Atmosphere; warm and cosy. Service; top shelf. Food; scrumptious! Enjoyed our visit, absolutely loved the food, and the service was attentive, professional, and just perfect. Only improvement could be with regards to the cook method of the steak. Whilst I asked for medium, what I received was mostly medium rare, with one corner of quite rare. I didn't mind it personally as flavour wise it was excellent, but it may not be everyone's cup of tea, so something to be mindful of. Also, the steak sauce made the chips very soggy, so I would recommend serving these on the side so that they remain crispy and allow the customer to use the other hot sauce options available.

Staple restaurant for family and I. Really nice and attentive atmosphere, prompt service. I find the dishes to be consistently delicious, generous portions, just note that all meat dishes seem to be quite fatty. But apart from that, wonderful dining experience every time.

Cleaver and co never disappoints. Delicious food, fast service and good prices. Love the outdoor seating as well and lots of space indoors too. This picture below were the $16 lunch specials.

This place does some amazing smoked meats! Highly recommend the brisket, ribs and pork belly! The staff are awesome, really accommodating and so friendly! They fit 3 adults + a baby in at short notice, we were served both food and drinks so quickly! 10/10 would recommend, we’ll definitely be back again :)

Awesome service and good food. Love the smoked meat options. The chicken burger was crispy and tasty. Beef brisket burger is the ticket. Veggie option there as well with a patty burger. Monday is 2 for 1 burger which makes the decision to eat here easier.

This is our GoTo place for a great meal, it never disappoints. Staff are helpful and efficient, the food is delicious, and it is family friendly. Whether you pop in for nibbles and drinks, or a full on meal, this place is a gem. Standouts are the brisket, so juicy and tender, the ribs, sooo good, and calamari - but you can't lose with most of the menu. Make sure you get the apple pie. You're welcome!!

Three of us went last night for my cousins pre birthday dinner. The place was busy luckily we booked. Ambience was really cute and cosy. <br/>We ordered the pitmaster platter and some extra sides slaw, wedges, extra lemon pepper squid and onion rings. <br/>Platter was so good glad we ordered extra squid that was my fave of the night besides the slaw. <br/>Everything was delicious but the brisket was just a little dry but everything else was perfect. <br/>Highly recommend for a family dinner or if you're craving American style bbq. <br/>Also enjoyed all the sauces aioli was soooo delish. <br/>Dessert platters would've been perfect but they only 3 dessert items<br/>Will go again.<br/>They had $10 cocktail specials but it was a Thursday so we had to abstain lol.

They live up to the expectation of superb meat dishes. I’ve tried their steak and their burgers and I’ve never left disappointed with a meal. Full of flavour, beautiful presentation and awesome staff who are always attentive. Love coming here for a drink or two. I’ve dinned both inside and out and it’s great seating. And social atmosphere. The price is affordable and well worth a great time with friends and family and amazing food.❤️

Finally came through to Cleaver&Co and was definitely not disappointed!<br/>Came here on a hot sunny Saturday afternoon and brickworks was popping.<br/>Had amazing vibes/ambience with suitable music.<br/>Got seated down straight away and had the option to choose wherever to sit down.<br/>Service was top notch!<br/>Food came out pretty quick and portion sizes wre standard<br/>Ordered the St Louis Pork Ribs (1/2 kg) and the Rindless pork belly<br/>Ribs were pretty good but I feel (just my own opinion) that it should've had some more sauce but otherwise satisfied with what was received.<br/>Pork belly defs needed more seasoning or flavour!<br/>Overall, very happy with Cleaver&Co. Will definitely come here again and maybe try the Beef ribs instead.

Went here for a lunch with a friend. Ordered the bbq chicken wings, jalapeño bombs, Mac and cheese burger and the fried chicken burger. Everything was yum! Only thing was Mac and cheese burger patty could have used a bit more of a cheesy flavour and could have been slightly hotter in temperature but still tasty!

My partner and I love going here for our date night! We always get their smoked ribs, they are delicious. The Mac n cheese bites, Nutella milkshake and cocktails are super yummy too. <br/>If you’re a meat lover then give this place a go

Best meal I have had in a long time brisket was amazing will definitely come back for more

Loved the menu and service ♥️ We tried the Cleaver Fried Chicken Burger, the Brisket Po Boy and the St Louis BBQ Ribs. Total value for money as their portions are quite big. The burgers come with a side of fries and the ribs had a massive heap of fries as well! The ribs were definitely my fav, one of the best I’ve had and so well cooked that it’d simply fall off the bone 😊 All in all, this place is a must try for all your foodies and I’d totally recommend the ribs 😋
Hannahmareecarr2
Been here a couple of times and every time, their burgers are delicious. The staff are always warm and welcoming, with excellent service. There has sometimes been a delay in receiving our food, but that is a very minimal part of an overall good experience

Exactly as I expected amd the only reason I left the house today. We had the Texan Stand-off platter, which is perfect size for two of average hunger. The chicken nibbles were so crispy and the rib meat melted off the bone. We tried all the sauces.. If you mix the aioli with the bbq or hot sauce, it makes things even better. And the waffle.. The berry compote is amazing. I did feel it was a bit strange coming out on a wooden platter, and the waffle definitely needed a knife to cut it, but we had fun having spoon wars (: overall the waffle was delicious. The ambiance is set nicely with the decor and the country music. 12/10. (Bonus points for a super clean bathroom)

Good food, good atmosphere and not too badly priced. There are some great happy hour deals to take advantage of at off-peak times also.<br/>Their mac’n cheese balls are pretty epic.<br/>Their baos..... hey, they’re good for a “western-fusion”<br/>Their ribs.... I was a little disappointed.... whilst good, for a place that sort of alludes towards being experts in this arena, they weren’t what I was hoping for. I have had much, much better.... but... I am a fussy customer - I know good ribs<br/><br/>I do recommend this place though, don’t get me wrong<br/>Great for a group and pre-movies

The food was excellent absolutely delicious no complaints about this, but the service there was not on par a young blonde lady served my family <br/>She was rather incompetent and a little rude well more uninterested I should say <br/>will not be returning sadly, customer service is so important when it comes to your dining experience and unfortunately she completely ruined it which her attitude and she coughed while carrying my food which wasn’t pleasing. <br/>Sorry she has ruined it because the food was amazing!.

Yummy meal , the pitmasters platter is definitely too much for two people but worth ordering to try the items. We are on a keto diet and the staff were happy to accommodate by swapping the carbs out. <br/>Jalapeño bombs are amazing
Shawny Tipene
Decent food for decent prices. I got the slow cooker brisket and it was so soft i couldn’t pick it up with my fork lol <br/><br/>The service was good and our food came rather quickly.

ideal location in brickworks.<br/><br/>nice tasty european food. Food with a twist. service is great and staff are friendly. great place to grab a beer after doing some shopping

Today is our second dinning at Cleaver&Co, the first time was a Friday night, it was very busy, enjoyed everything! Today’s experience was let down by the poor customer service, food was excellent but the two waitresses seemed unhappy and unfriendly. We will definitely go back, hopefully the service improves next time

Excellent Food! the orders were fast all the food was cooked right - meats were juicy and tender. Pitmaster platter was really great and can easily feed 3 including a child! Children’s meals were also good came with drink & ice cream/jelly. Couldn’t find any fault in food as there were mixed reviews previously.. Enjoyed our Sunday lunch and will be back again soon :)

We had a reservation thus we're seated quickly. However we spent nearly 10mins trying to get the severs attention to place our order. <br/>The restaurant were not packed or had many food orders that were coming out. What it look like was that the staffs were just not very aware or paying attention to their surroundings and customers. <br/><br/>Once we managed to get the attention of a waitress, the service was friendly and the food came out relatively quickly. <br/>The jalapeño bombs and onion rings was amazing 🤤🤤. The mac and cheese bites were not too bad either. What was disappointing were their meats 🍖 .<br/>Our platter had the beef brisket and the ribs, both were average even though they were supposed to be the star of the platter. The ribs were tough and dry, beef brisket were not as tender nor flavourful.<br/><br/>The food looks aesthetically pleasing in term of plating but overall taste is average at best and is not worth their value.<br/>I felt let down as I was seriously looking forward to some good slow cooked BBQ 🍖 but what I got was just food court food.

Setup was nice, food looked good but the wings for the Texan platter were bland, fries were over seasoned, ribs... okay but didn't have much flava was just swimming in watery bbq sauce. Personally wouldn't recommend. Friends liked their steaks though.

Went last night, thought I’d try something new with 12 of my friends. Some ordered steak but the knives we were given barely cut the steak up. Water was straight from the tap and was not cold until our 6th bottle. I ordered pitmaster platter and was really disappointed with how small the chicken nibbles were and the fact there was a massive fly in my sauce. Waiter didn’t really think it was a big deal but replaced and apologised. Brisket was so dry and over cooked if was inedible. We ordered nibbles as a starter and it was drowned in a pool of sauce. The rest of the food my friends enjoyed. But definitely won’t go back and will not recommend to others.

The meat is here is like straight from the smoker. Super tender and juicy with a great inhouse sauce on top of it. Very close ti my close so i often go down.

This shop running a grabone voucher back in new year time and unfortunately we couldnt use it in time. With in 30days of the expiry we tried to dine in but the manager was so unfriendly and didnt know about T&C of voucher Guarantee. Bit of drama explanation from him the business is for profit etc. Unwelcoming and terrible experience.
A Different Critic
Initial visit. Great staff. Atmosphere can be a bit dim & dull but I solely base this rating off of the beef brisket burger which I’m a returning fan for. A regular attendee of this place. <br/><br/>Under new management. <br/>Place has really dipped in food quality. Dry brisket on multiple visits, Mac & cheese is bland, Really unfortunate. Do not get the snickers Sundae... abosolutely attrocious.
Mani
Carnivores’ haven with apparently acceptable vegetarian options. Short ribs - done to slow-cooked perfection. Excellent burgers and san choi bao. Decent bar. Slightly pricey but great ambience & location in the Brick Works dining precinct.

The atmosphere was welcoming and the staff were friendly and lovely. We were seated right away and our orders were taken quickly, and drinks arrived shortly after take. My sisters had ordered the Cheeseburgers x2 while I had ordered the Earth Worx burger, with Mac n bites and Garlic Bread as sides. They all arrived on time, and still hot from the oven. The sides were quite filling and tasty, as with the burgers they were delicious. The Earth Worx Burger filled me up, and had a good amount fillings. I would definitely come here again, and the staff (just one woman in the front and one man cooking in the kitchen) were very nice and timely, even with it being a quiet lunch 😊
Aquapiyo
Food was excellent. Meat, meat, and meat! Great place for meat lovers. Staff are friendly and helpful, I enjoyed a lot and would love to go back again.

Came in for brunch today with a friend. Saw the lunch meal deal board and decided to get some buttermilk chicken from this place. Buttermilk chicken was fried to perfection. The perfect crispiness allowed for the soft tender inside to give a contrast in texture to the outside. It was flavoured very well and the croutons were nice and crispy. Bacon was delicious and egg was soft. Absolutely loved the buttermilk chicken.

Dined here tonight. Restaurant was busy and packed but spacious and comfortable. Excellent customer service. My group were looked after very well, we didn't have to call out to be served as we were always being checked on throughout the night even though it was a packed house. I ordered the pork ribs with swaps and changes and it was easy. Don't remember if we had to wait long. Ribs were nicely flavoured but a little bit dry. Overall it was a good meal.
Kelvin
Clever & co is nice and has a lot of space,<br/>Ive had a few things but i do end up getting the full meat platter and sharing it.<br/>Ive gotten it twice and some of the things arent to bad, the garlic bread is nice and soft, and the beef brisket isnt to bad, the ribs sometimes are hard and dry.<br/>The sides do change, they have swaped some in and out every time i get it.<br/>

Went here for dinner the other night with my partner.. we were seated fast.. checked out the menu and the waiter was back to take our order.. we got the pit master platter and their coleslaw.. I didn’t time it but it didn’t seem too long before our food arrived.. the pit master platter is recommended for 3 people which we came to the conclusion is about correct.. lol.. the coleslaw was awesome! We devoured that fast.. everything else was decent.. not amazing but not bad.. I was a little disappointed because I was expecting to be blown away and find a new go-to but alas! Would possibly come back again and try different dishes but probably not soon..

Great place to eat if you are going to the movies . Or want to watch live sport .<br/>The food is delicious , The meals are huge. Fun lively atmosphere . The price of the meals are quiet expensive, but you defiantly get your money’s worth . Highly recommend .

Dined in on a busy Saturday evening. Pub/Eatery. Had a little wait at the front before being seated at an available table. Water was served and menus were readily available. We ordered the Pitmaster Platter for 2 of us. Food came out in a timely manner. Helped the All Blacks was showing as a distraction from the wait. Food was ok. Beef Brisket & Ribs were the highlight on the platter. The Mac & Cheese Bites were average, the buffalo wings the same. The garlic bread & fries were quite disappointing. Given the price would consider returning to try another item off the menu.

Went here yesterday and the service was insanely bad. No hello, smile or goodbye. The guy who was serving us looked like he didn’t care about anything or anyone. We also wanted takeaway boxes when we had finished our food so we waited.. and waited.. for our server to approach us and never did even though he was clearing the table next to us and could clearly see we were finished. I evenly had to approach him I said excuse me.. then he walked away so I waited again then he did the exact same thing until my friend when to ask and he walked away again!!! Just couldn’t believe the lack of care! There was one waitress who was very nice though but all and all food was good if you want a hearty meal but if you care about service would not recommend.
Nikki
Often come here and it’s so good! Such a nice place to eat and have a drink. Staff are always really nice and helpful. Cocktails are delicious and the ribs are always great!!

Came here just yesterday for an early dinner with my partner. It was pretty quiet when we arrived as it was a Sunday afternoon, so we were able to pick wherever we wanted to sit. <br/><br/>We ordered:<br/>• BBQ Rib Fingers<br/>• Buffalo Chicken Nibbles (hot & spicy) w/ range style dressing. <br/>• Brisket Burger w/ chips<br/>• Onion Rings/Aioli<br/><br/>I would have to say everything we ordered was delicious. The BBQ Ribs where soft of the bone and not tough at all. The Buffalo Chicken Nibbles has to be my favourite out all. The Nibbles were cooked perfectly, nice tender meat anHd the range style dressing made it even better. Such an amazing combination, I will definitely come back for the Buffalo Chickens Wings again. <br/>The Brisket Burger was lovely, the beef was tender and delicious. The onion rings were perfectly cooked. Wasn’t greasy at all but tasted great. <br/><br/>The service here was lovely, everyone we were served by had a smile when they approached us and was lovely when they served us. Wonderful customer service!<br/><br/>Ambience of Cleaver & Co is very neat, spacious and lovely. <br/><br/>Overall my experience was great, I do recommend this place and I will definitely be coming here again.<br/>⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

The food here is amazing! The pork in ya belly burger and rindless pork belly are both incredible and a must try! Service is also always really good and the food arrives very quickly. Cleaver & Co is definitely worth going to!

Service was unbelievably poor. We were the only table there and we had to wave the waiter over to order and then were ignored for the remainder. We had planned to spend the afternoon there having some drinks and watching the rugby but got tired of waiting for staff. When we went inside to pay one staff member was on his phone and the other was watching tv. <br/>Food itself was awful. I had the chicken burger which was so soggy the bun was wet and just tasted like supermarket coleslaw. Then it came to $70! Definitely will not be going back and would suggest to everyone to avoid at all costs.
Terri Clayton
Been 4-5 times , unfortunately the care seems to be low. Average chips and huge chunks of squid 'just' cooked but so wide the texture wasn't so nice. On the good side their aoili + tartare sauses made were great. New Lynn has 2 restaurants that do sport tv music food and people skills better sorry<br/>
Natasha Matila-Smith
The servers was very attentive but the person we paid to was quite blunt. anyhow i bought my burger, mistakenly got mac n cheese bites ($14.50) instead of mac n cheese side ($9)(a mistake I've made more than once, thinking that they're essentially the same but one has breadcrumbs on it...), and a coke, and it came to over $30. So, I think it was pleasant and nice, but for over $30 not entirely worth the experience. SO expensive for what is essentially a chicken burger $14.50 express menu, a side $14.50 and a drink (approx $4-5). I was actually taken aback and as I said the person we paid to (guessing they were the manager) wasn't very nice. It is only a 2 because the food was decent, the server was nice and there was complimentary water (lol) but way way way way way overpriced sides.<br/> <br/><br/>i was expecting it to be expensive but I didn't realise it would go over $30 and be an extra $5.50 to crumb the mac n cheese.
Kate Williamson
After a few visits and being underwhelmed we have just gone for burgers the last few times. The beef brisket burger is a winner. Smothered in slaw and sauce it's messy to eat but so worth it. Preferred the old chunky chips instead of shoestring fries. Friendly staff.
Yash Shah
Always bring an appetite when you are visiting this place. The barbecue sauce and the pork ribs is a deadly combo which sweep off of your feet. A must visit is what i would say.
Shelley Bedggood
Food is not that great considering the amount of time they supposedly take to cook it. Last time I dined here the staff were quite rude and pretty much ignored us. We also had issues paying the bill, as we noticed we had been overcharged for drinks we did not get. However the style of restaurant is appealing.
Vina
Love love looooooove the ribs! Would be 5 stars but the only let down was the chicken nibbles. They tasted like they were covered in chicken salt 🤮 other than that, Everything was gr8!!!!!
Georgia Vossen
This place is fairly average in my opinion. Although in saying that I’m not the biggest meat eater in the world, and their main focus is meat. But I’m a big burger person, and these burgers are fairly average too. Bread is meh, not the best sauce or pattys. I’ve had a salad from here, which I had to avoid certain parts of as it was not very nice. <br/>Not a big variety really on the menu, expensive and not a fan.
Jessica Maile
Food was good, service ruined the experience. Was waiting longer than usual to be served and after waiting for 20 minutes we raised a hand for a waiter to take our orders. We ordered starters to share and it took more than half an hour to get to our table. Finished our starters and waited another 20 mins and again had to beckon a waiter to take our main orders. Later had to raise a hand AGAIN to order dessert after finishing our meals and waiting/looking for a waiter to approach us. Nobody approached to ask how our meals were, finished my drink within 10 minutes of waiting for our starters and wasn’t asked for a refill. Really disappointing considering the food is usually good.
Yasmina Dervishi
Came here for dinner tonight and the food was well below average. The garlic bread as you can tell is from dominoes and the serving of fries was terrible. <br/>The cheese burger didn’t even come with cheese which was a let down. Would NOT recommend this place.
Renee Arihia Mihaere
Been coming here since it opened. Love the food, the atmosphere & the staff are always more than happy to help every single time no matter what ! Love love love !<br/>
Shaina Bernard
We got the buffalo wings, ribs, kids cheeseburger and a beef burger. The buffalo wings weren’t worth it so don’t bother getting it, they were skinny nibbles that didn’t differ too much from a Chinese takeaway (I actually prefer some takeaways better). The ribs were nice and I altered the slaw for mash, which came with gravy. I didn’t get sweet corn though and I’m pretty sure I got it last time? I enjoyed my daughters cheeseburger more than I did the adult beef burger and I think it was the addition of the mustard (with the mustard it just tasted like a Burger King burger with a massive patty). I loved the Aioli sauce that came with the chicken more than anything. Ambience was warm and really family friendly. The staff were helpful and very accommodating. Would love to give a 3.7 as it doesn’t quite reach a 4 with the food/price.
Laura
Got the pittmaster platter everything was very dry and bland the calamari and garlic bread were the only things worth eating. Very disappointing
Food_adikt
It's our local. The chicken wings never disappoints. Tried their other dishes which is ok. Desserts are amazing especially death by chocolate after some wings. Service is a hit and miss at times but overall staff are attentive.
Tania Buckingham
Went here for our 15th wedding anniversary looking forward to having a great night. We ordered our entree and mains, the buffalo wings are amazing, garlic bread had no flavour and was burnt on the bottom, hadnt even finished our entree and the mains had arrived my pork belly was dry and the crackling was old and burnt, my husbands meal was fine except on the menu it did say broccollini but instead got raw untrimmed beans, the waiter was very nice and was very helpful, even though we were not charged for the pork, this did ruin our night very dissappointed must likely never will return here for a meal.

If you are looking or a snug place on a rainy night Cleaver and co is the place to try out. We ordered the Pit Master and an extra dish Jalapeño Bombs with salsa.<br/>This is for a shared platter amongst 3 people.<br/>- The Jalapeño bombs are amazing filled with Jalapeños and cream cheese.<br/>PitMaster Platter<br/>- Ribs<br/>- Pulled beef brisket<br/>- Mac n cheese bites<br/>- salt and pepper squid<br/>- Alamo beef balls<br/>- buffalo wings (not spicy)<br/><br/><br/>
Averyl Antonette Rodrigues
We had the pitmaster platter and it was brilliant! The squids were just perfect (very few places get it right)! Each dish on the platter had its unique taste and came with a different but apt dip. The pork ribs were a little over cooked but when I pointed that out to the staff, they were kind enough to not charge me for that. The ambience was lovely, very chilled out and so were the staff. Definitely recommend this place!

I've been here on a couple of occasions in the past, mostly with friends for birthdays etc. Large restaurant floor space; so well suited to casual catchups/large groups. The burgers are great! Quite a fun dining atmosphere... feels very modern and the decor feels appropriate...  seeing into the kitchen makes you feel that much more connected to the experience.. Great place to hang out with friends... The outside seating area is lovely.. great spot to grab a drink and food on a sunny day.
Matthew Wallis
I have been to this restaurant twice and on both occasions have been amazed by the quality of the food. The burgers are juicy and made with good cuts of meat. The food isn’t cheap but it is also not outrageous either. The staff are always friendly. I definitely recommend this restaurant before you go to see a movie at the local cinema.
Delphia Pae
The burger that has burger rings in it forgot what it was called lol , it’s so good ☺️. The chips however are a small portion that come with burger combos. But would defs come back to this place for a feed to try more of their food.
Leeza Quiana Krause
Portion of food was small, didn't taste great the only good thing about this place was the hostess that was very attentive other than that I wouldn't come here again due to it being over priced for what we got .
Linda Moayed
Ordered the Buffalo wings in BBQ sauce and the fries with aioli, it was the best! Tasted amazing and great value for money. The chips were light crispy and fluffy on the inside and the aioli was the best I've had! Service was very friendly and always checked up to see if we needed anything :) 100% recommend to everyone!
Charlotteraju
Nothing was seasoned to be honest and chicken wings tasted a bit off. We werent able to finish our food so we asked the waitress to pack our food and she packed everything but our mac n cheese which we barely touched so i was very dissapointed
Siobahn Armstrong
Cleaver and co is always nice but only thing I dislike is how Smokey their ribs are. I just find it too overwhelming for me but you are always guaranteed to be full after coming here.
Josie
I F@#king live for this place. It’s so delicious. We always seem to end up here before movies and it makes me so happy. You get a good meal for what you pay! It’s always super busy too.
Emilyy
Have come here a number of times. Food portions/quality seems to vary. Loved the crumbed chicken burger (it was MASSIVE and so tasty) but recently have taken this off the menu and the replacement chicken burger is the same price but seemed much smaller - wouldn't come back for it. Staff always nice and friendly.
Barbie-Jane Tomokino
I ordered your St Louis half kilo ribs via Uber eats and all i can say that it was disgusting the pit slaw was yuk the chips where soggy and the ribs were dry ive had this meal before via dine in and it was delish but this time it was disgusting i kinda want a full refund ae totally disapointed
Aimee.
Came here with a bunch of friends as we wanted to try the new Brickworks area in New Lynn. The staff were helpful and attentive and looked after us. The food was just normal burgers and platters. Nothing too special or amazing. We liked the presentation of the food.
Miss M
Great vibe to this place, some really cool 90's classics, which you'd love if you were a 90's student in west Auckland. We had the pork belly, which was juicy and succulent with an exceptional reduction. The chips here are as good as Macdonald's shoestring chips (yes that is the benchmark) and the aioli was creamy and delicious. Hot n' spicy buffalo chicken nibbles were slightly on the dry side but tasted soooo good! The winner though is the mac n' cheese bites! Holy moly.. perfect much? Portions are very generous so that was too much food for two people, had to doggy bag most of it. Top tip, order one dish at a time each. Very quick, efficient and friendly service.
Xavier Ronati Siosaia
My new favourite place to eat! wasn't busy on a Saturday afternoon. We got the pitmaster platter and a rodeo burger. I underestimated the platter thinking it would be in small portions but it really does feed 3 people ha! still finished everything we ordered though. Amazing staff with a great sense of humour. Everything was full of flavour and didn't leave me feeling bloated. Definitely coming back here
Samantha Young
Came in here for a late lunch, picked to try this place over the others down Brickworks. Was greeted straight away and seated by what looked like the manager. Came back about 15-20mins later apologising that he hadn't taken our order yet. No probs. Time ticked by and two more tables were seated around us. Those two tables made their orders and then received their meals shortly afterwards.. Nearly 40mins had passed and we still hadn't received our drink, entree or mains. Continued to wait a little longer thinking they were making my pasta from scratch haha. Just as I was about to flag down the manager to ask if our orders went through, he walked passed our table for the fifth time until he realised we had no food. It so happens our order didn't go through the till and to the kitchen and no one realised until 40mins later. Within the next 5-10mins our Pork Bahn Mi, Miss Carolina Burger, Chicken and Bacon Linguine and Fanta came out. By the speed of our order to come out made me question whether our food was fresh or not. The chicken in my pasta was dry and tasted like it had been reheated; and the Pork in our Banh Mi was luke warm. My partner wasn't too impressed throwing shade at the manager. By that time our appetite had died and we had to take the majority of the meal away in doggy containers.<br/><br/>Not the best first time checking this place out. Food is average here, service as you can tell was lacking majorly. We were constantly overhearing apologies and mistakes being made by the manager. The service and the long wait made the meal unappetising. If we are to ever come back here we hope it changes this review!<br/><br/>(I also reheated the pasta for dinner that night and look at all that butter and oil)<br/>

I've gone here a few times and every time the service has been fast and friendly, and the food has been really good! Love the mac and cheese bites!!!

Great service A+ First time dining here and would definitely come back again. We travelled quite far so had high expectations and they did not disappoint. We ordered the Pitmaster Platter and extra sides and the ribs were delicious. Perfect platter for a family 2 adults/ 2 children. Had something for everyone! We'll be back soon
Miura Elikana
The staff here are very welcoming. My friend was disappointed with her dish, she ordered the lamb which was overwhelming. The marinade for the lamb was overpowering despite it being succulent. I ordered the pork belly which was good. I ordered a snickers sundae which was enjoyable but only 1 scoop.
Ravi
Good customer service with a good location. It has an awesome environment as well . There is TV inside the restaurant showing sports . It has a relaxing vibe. The food here is amazing with a good serving size.
Bryan
This is one of our usual places to go eat when we feel like going local and eating non-asian cuisine. Have been here quite a few times and it never fails to impress in all aspects. From entry to exit the service is very good....efficient , with a smile and once served they do ask how everything is, but not to the point of being annoying. Far from it. The decor and atmosphere is great.....on the television there's sport if something on or music videos playing. As for the food...well...on the first time here we tried the Pitmasters platter which is a bit of several things off the menu. It is some ribs, Mac & cheese balls, pork balls, chicken wings, beef brisket and squid. Since then the ribs has usually been the main choice ...and as I said before it never fails ( except once when seemed to be not so well cooked, not so juicy and a little bit dry) . And everytime I got to have the Mac and cheese balls....they are so delicious!! More so with one of their Little Creatures Pilsners to wash it all down makes it a great dining experience. Oh , and yeah i love the varied assortment of butcher's knives that act as beer tap handles at the bar. Nice touch. Highly recommend this place...especially if you love your ribs.

Worst meal we have had in our lives . Starters Squid and Ribs . Both terrible squid over salted and Ribs tasted funny apparently slow cooked .....not . I had the Caesar Salad was terrible slop , my partner had "Sirloin" - rump tough as old boots . Don't go there .

Great atmosphere but everything else is very average. Menu sounds delicious and the food looks mouth watering but there's no flavour or freshness to everything I've tried

Had to call a waiter to get service as no one noticed us sitting and waiting to order. Food was okay, got the scotch fillet from the grill. Cooked well but was disappointed the way my plate arrived overcrowded. Preferred if the vegies were served on the side. The vine tomato was an instant killer as it made my dish watery. I had to quickly eat my food before it all became a soggy mess. Gravy was delicious but no use if your plate is already soggy. Glad I ordered it on the side. Lastly we were also confused that one of the customers got their food packed for them but we were given a box to pack our own. Not a biggie but I expected the same service for all customers not based on race or colour. Wouldn't come back as I have eaten better but I thought to give my local places a try. The lamb shoulder needs mint sauce, nothing "BETSEY" about it. Sorry guys but am not impressed.

Long wait for food which was pretty average. We got the heaver Cleaver burger and the 1/4 chook. The 1/4 chook was just a leg and some bland mac and cheese which was really disappointing.

To be fair, I should have known better. I mean, it wasn't expensive but it wasn't good either...<br/>I had a burger (because there was nothing else I wanted) and it was of that, rural pub/ anywhere chip shop standard where the ingredients aren't fresh or tasty and the breads lifeless. Certainly big however, but just generally low quality ingredients and low quality taste. Everything else we had just tasted like it had cupfuls of sodium in it to make it tasty. No serious complaints just is what it is...

Been here 3 times now and it just gets better every time, pulled pork burgers, ribs and the mac cheese...gotta love it. Atmosphere is top notch, and so is the staff i will be coming here many times more.

First time coming here and was not disappointed. Small group of 6 and the service was easy going didn't feel rushed or as though they forgot about us. Food was wonderful, everyone was greatly pleased with what they ordered. I had the earth burger and it may have been the best burger I've ever had! Can't wait to get back to try something new next time.

Menu can be found at all American styled restaurants. Rubbish service. Gets the menu wrong. Rushed and unresponsive to callings. Had to do my own cutlery.

This place is sooooo good! I really didn't expect it. Best ribs I've ever had the meat falls off the bone it's so tender! And you can't come here and not order the mac n cheese bites, they're so good and the sauce that they come with makes them even better! Have also had their burgers & steaks all were great too, honestly do not by pass this! Service was outstanding too

I ordered Pork Belly.<br/>Very plain ..besides the smokey flavor, a bit tasteless .. under seasoned .. coleslaw a bit meh.<br/>Strange to have mac and cheese as a side with pork belly?<br/>And Cheesecake for desert. <br/>Lacking in flavor completely. The Passion Fruit sauce on top is not enough. Needs flavor in the cheesecake itself. Suggestion .. White chocolate cheesecake with Passion Fruit sauce ?<br/>

Mac and cheese bites. Mmmmmmmmmmmm excellent snack.<br/>Beautifully presented.<br/>Crispy on the outside and cheesy on the inside. Great sauce accompaniments.

The brick works addition to New Lynn Mall has really brought up the area ~ Dined here for a work function the other night, and I was excited to dine here after seeing some great photos. <br/><br/> A table of 13 people, we were seated upstairs on a long table. Now, there's only one fan upstairs. . And by the time our food came out and we were eating I was sweating, red in face, and I had to excuse myself to the bathroom to remove a singlet because it was so damn hot. . No air flow and the low hanging lights did not help. I wasn't the only one, the whole table was experiencing the heat. Throughout dining the heat just kept going up and the our table ran out of water. <br/><br/> I had to call for the waiter, and I'm sure after my red face and asking for another fan or more water (because the whole table ran out) they must have switched the fan on max because it go better, still hot but there was some air flow. They need to install some sort of ventilation, the single wall fan upstairs only really serviced half of the room and not very effective.<br/><br/> Not happy at all with this, its Autumn 17 degrees outside not even a cold night but it felt like a humid Summers nights dining in here. <br/><br/> Besides that. . Me and my partner ordered the Pitmasters platter for $63.90 and a side of seasonal vegetables. <br/>Vegetables were okay, but for $9 for a small bowl? The platter was a good mix of things from the menu, so was very excited to try this platter. <br/>I enjoyed the mac and cheese bites, crunchy on the outside. The salt and pepper squid was good well. The chicken wings were really good! Saucy and flavoured well! Homemade bread was really good! Nice and fluffy and went well with the spread. <br/> Pork balls were heavily salted and seasoned, really needed more of the tomato sauce to cut down the intensity. Brisket and ribs were a disappointment. . Dry meat, very dry and the sauces couldn't save it. <br/>Great platter to sample things on the menu but 50/50 some good some bad. . Seeing everybody order mains we should have stuck with mains. <br/><br/> Staff were friendly, but our water bottles were empty and considering how hot it was. . More refills to accommodate for lack of ventilation.<br/><br/> Interior has a great feel, but after my experience I won't be back.

This was my first time attending Cleaver & Co, I have eaten a bit at the surrounding restaurants. The staff were really professional and friendly, checking to see if everything was okay and if we needed anything( with a great smile as well which was very welcoming).<br/><br/>I had the Crispy Kick'n Chicken WIngs, not very crispy but wow they were Kick'n alright!!!! My partners eyes watered just at the smell of them.<br/><br/>My partner went for the 1/4 Chook which he didn't enjoy very much, there wasn't anything special to it, my Father went for the Squealer Pork Belly(which he said he needed a sharper knife to cut into).<br/><br/>We went on to dessert( I needed something to cool my mouth down as it still tingled after two drinks) so I had the Snickers Sundae(nothing resembled snickers other than the nuts), my Father loved his Mud Cake and my partner found his Banana Split a bit much.<br/><br/>All in all I found the place a bit pricey for what we had but it was nice. I applaud the waitress on her excellent customer service and I loved the relaxed feel the music gave.

Absolutely amazing!!! Staff was extremely friendly! Food incredible! Best burger I have eaten. My husband had the 1kg rob and was more than satisfied with the quality, amount and flavours!
Vanessa Morris
Great causal dinning. We told the waitress we were in a hurry and she didn't disappoint. 4 ladies dinning. Ordered a shared platter ($63) plus chips and we left food behind! Good hearty variety like ribs, chicken nibbles, squid, garlic rolls etc. Great cocktails too. Definitely go back with the family.

Was a pretty quiet weekday night when I went with three others. Staff were friendly buy we were told bar closed at 9 then asked to leave just before 9:30 which was a shame, expected them to be open later being a restaurant in Brickworks. Heaver cleaver burger was so delicious and worth every cent. Need a bit of work on their food display and chips at this branch, looked pretty scruff and was lucky to get 10 chips scattered on plate. Cleaver and co north west have beautiful food display and much bigger serving of chips with burger meals.
Tatia Adams
Staff were friendly and attentive and the atmosphere/surroundings were pleasant. We ordered Onion Rings to start and they were tasty but greasy. Then the Pitmaster Platter. I was disappointed with the presentation, it looked like leftovers and the Brisket was some sliced meat swimming in gravy, a bit like left over roast, and no smoke flavour at all. Smoked Pork Balls & Mac N Cheese bites nothing special but the Gunpowder Prawns were very tasty and the Chicken wings gave a kick all right. Salad was really tasty with good variety.
Shanae Tipping
Very beautiful setting, tidy and good vibes. The staff is very friendly and smiley. The food is absolutely amazing especially there burgers and the chips :)
Kai Finder
Atmosphere is great, 5/5 for music! Food is delicious and servings are hearty. The smoked meat is great. Plenty of options for eating and seating.

The first place i have been where the chicken breast wasn't too dry, it was juicy and perfect with decent amount of butter on the potatos, beans and tomatos topped with gravy. They had amazing desserts as well, passion fruit cheesecake with vanilla ice cream and whipped cream. Loved the food and its a really good restaurant to go too.

Great location ( a part of the Brickworks). A good place for a hangout where you can have burgers, lamb ribs, chicken wings and usual drinks.<br/><br/>I had a chicken burger with some fries and was happy with the serving portion. I went here very hungry and came out too full! <br/><br/>The taste was decent although I felt there was nothing special about the food. Service I received was amazing and the staff was very courteous.<br/><br/>
Alessandra Ackroyd
One of my favourite restaurants! Food is ALWAYS high standard! Husband has had Ribs every time (best he's had). I had the Nacho burger - sooo goood!! Cocktails are awesome, atmosphere is awesome, service is awesome! Love the decor too 10/10 :)
Alas
Service is great. Atmosphere pretty good. However, the food lacks a bit of love and passion. The ribs felt boiled or was smoked with too much moisture so the meat was so wet rather drier and smoky. They were good when they first opened but think the recipes have been altered or cooks have been replaced with inexperience. Not sure. Food is not that great, just ok.
Laura And Peli
So so good!! We had the Lamb Shoulder and the pork belly! And omg we will be back! Absolutely delicious melt in your mouth meat! Coleslaw was really good! Very Nicely dressed and not dry at all! I'm not a big fan of their Mac and cheese but my partner thought it was ok and ate both of ours. <br/>We finished our meals off with a chocolate cake and snickers sundae! Both very good! A bit more caramel in the sundae would have been perfect and the cake was deliciously moist! A place we will definitely come back to.
Kirstie Jory
Good value for money and was pretty tasty. Patty was slightly over cooked in my burger. Generally pretty good experience overall. Great desert menu all good good. I had donuts and my friend had the cheesecake which was the best part of the meal
Dee
Come here a few times now because I just can't get enough of their steak and burger. Being a steak lover myself, I am quite pedantic with how my meat is cooked and served. Generous portion, big thick juicy steak, tasty and very delicious! The burger is really tasty as well. Make sure you come here hungry because the portions are quite big. The steak comes with roasted potatoes and veggies and definitely will fill you up. Their mac and cheese bites are delicious too. Chicken wings are also finger licking good. The shrimps are worth a try as well. We will definitely be back for more! Thanks Team!
Roger
Awful, really struggling to find anything positive to say. The final insult was the bill. Haven't felt so disappointed and ripped off in a long time. Never again...

Highly recommend Cleaver & Co for your next function. We took a group of 61 people on Sunday night which was a huge success. Joe and his team have been awesome to deal with and accomodating to our needs. We were seated in the upstairs area, seperate to the other diners, which gave us plenty of room to move around and talk to people within our group. We pre ordered our meals which I believe was helpful to the staff. The food was amazing, the kids meals were very generous, which came out in a timely manner. The feedback from our group was postive. Everyone was able to pay seperately without any hassles at the end of the night, an added bonus was kids 12 and under ate free with a paying adult. A huge thank you to Joe and his team at Cleaver & Co for making this experience relaxing, hassle free and memorable. We will be back for sure.

Just the right ambience, with the music not killing your eardrums and denying you any conversation... just satisfying! The lighting, too, fits. Seating depends on how busy; you could end up in a comfy, corner-ish spot or the middle area.<br/><br/>The Chicken Wings with the heavenly Homemade Buffalo sauce (best sauce ever)... I order it every time. They also used to have Dunkin' Dogs which were superb and popular... dunno why that's been discontinued! I've been there just for these two, at times, that's how insanely delicious they are!<br/><br/>Had the Barnyard Burger (Chicken, Bacon & stuff) - the quantity was massive, it was made of quality ingredients, looked amazing, so there's value for money... except for a main thing. Flavour/taste... I think the sauces weren't right & the spices in the chicken pattie were nonexistent.<br/><br/>As advertised, great place if you want to feast on meat! Needs certain flavour-related improvements, though. The service has always been pleasant in my experience.
Donna&Shane
We popped in here for an afternoon snack, service was quick and friendly but we were the only ones here. We got the prawns and a salad with grilled chicken. Nice rustic place/atmosphere. The prawns weren't great. The salad was a "man salad'! Very big chunky pieces, the chicken was nice and tender the beetroot was undercooked couldn't cut into it. Didn't really hit the spot.
Lily
Really really nice steaks. The sides and the sauce are really tasty. I liked the restaurant a lot. Polite staff. Fast service. Everything good. But the chairs could be more comfortable and short! I'll go there again.
Sunny
Been here so many times now with my family. Service is fast and friendly and we've never been disappointed with our meals. Outdoor dining in the sunshine makes for a very relaxing Sunday lunch! <br/>

Great location within the new New Lynn Brickworx area, nice building and lovely atmosphere, it definitely sets the mood. Service is OK, a bit forced but at least it's nice.<br/><br/>Food came out quite quickly and it was OK, not what we expected but it was still tasty. My suggestion would be hotter meat (temperature wise) and the coleslaw could be a little fresher.<br/><br/>Nice serving sizes and nice sauce. Would definitely come back :-)

The pitmaster platter is to die for. Wasn't a big fan of the ribs, ive had better but they were delicious, a bit too smoked for my liking <br/><br/>Update<br/>Recently came back to this restaurant after a great experience with it the last time I went. Came to find out that the menu has been remastered unfortunately. Which concluded me on getting a steak, which I asked for it to be well done but ended up being medium. Wanted to send it back but it was entirely impossible to get the waitress to look our way let alone come towards us. During our time eating here we weren’t once asked how our meal was which wouldn’t bother me any other day but seeing the waitresses hanging around the bar implied they weren’t busy. We weren’t escorted out and it took a good 10mins for someone to let us pay for our meal.

Everything is fine. Staffs were nice and the food also good. I feel satisfied and enjoy the time been here. I will come back if have chance.

My friend and I attempted to do the 'All you can eat ribs' night - we booked in advance & made it in time to start our 6-8pm session. <br/><br/>Honestly, I tried. I felt a little judged when a waitress came past & asked us if we wanted refills & when we said no, she asked us how many rounds we got through... Shamefully, I only got through 1 round after the initial load. My friend, 2. <br/><br/>The ribs are slathered in sauce - and if there isn't enough, there's more in the cutlery boxes on the table! They come around with pre cut pieces of ribs - most of which have more meat on it than the rack you're given in the start. <br/><br/>The smokiness of the ribs do eventually get over powering & even with the help of a beverage, for me, it's too much. I would only recommend the ribs - and the fries, slaw & corn it came with as it's definitely a hearty meal to have if you've got a big appetite. <br/><br/>I ordered an old fashion with johnny walker black and was extremely disappointed. It tasted like Johnny walker black, ice & water.

Busy as on a Friday night! I can't say anything bad about this place just for the fact that it has Emerson Pilsner (my home town beer!). I had a jug of it and a few burgers. My one was the lamb with hummus and my mrs had the Westside Philly. The burger was ok... I couldn't tell what's what to be honest till I found out my one was the one with hummus. But the fries was freshly fried and crunchy!
Christine Ula Ainofo
Went with my aunt and niece. Waiter quickly seated us and got some colouring things for my niece. I ordered the beef burger & chips. The burger was tasteless and trying to bite into it was such a mission and very messy. Next visit I won't be getting the burger.
Samantha Chris Hurring
Went to Cleaver & Co tonight with the family. Absolutely stuffed and very satisfied. Great dining options for kids and adults. A cozy, rustic atmosphere. Friendly staff. But it's the food that I loved. The sauces and smoked food are amazing. I got the ribs and my wife loved her pork belly. The kids enjoyed Mac & Cheese bites.<br/>We'll be back 😄

I went to Cleaver & Co for lunch. It had a nice little atmosphere, love the open kitchen and the smiling faces as I was seated. Service was great, burgers came out really fast. The burger was really tasty and a nice size, not too big, not too small. Would definitely recommend. I might have to come for dinner next time and grab a steak!
Ky
Been here for lunch and dinner both were great. I had the burger and the pattie was a little on the dry side other then this the burger wa great value for money. The second time I went I had the steak which was perfectly cooked. Great value for money!
Diogo Reck
Great place. Got there a bit late, when the kitchen was already closed, but they were nice enough to make the last burger. This is minding about the customer!<br/><br/>Well, besides that, I should say that the place is beautiful, butcher style and with nice paintings of pigs on the wall.<br/><br/>But the star of the night, as it was supposed to be, was the food itself.<br/><br/>I would say that it was the best burger I ever trying in Auckland, and I've been to quote a few places. Great meat, the onion was delicious and the same about the sauce.<br/><br/>My friend had some onion rings that was crispy and with a yummy dipping.
Benedict Uy
Came by for dinner after a movie. From the outside it looks like a really nice steakhouse but the insides looks more like a pub. Lost of things on the menu which looked appetising but I went with the ribs. The ribs was a bit dry for my liking but the sauce and coleslaw made up for that. The chips were quite good since they stayed mostly crispy even with hot ribs and sauce over the top of them.<br/><br/>The service was really good, the waitress checking up on us throughout the night to see if we needed anything else.
Eric Lee
Great service. Great food! Thank you to the lovely lady who served us. The atmosphere is wonderful. Can't wait to come back. Will recommend this place to my friends.
Benny Whiti
This was the second time dining, first time was marvelous but the next, not so much....<br/><br/>Got the 1kg ribs which were very dry and chewy, the first time I had the ribs they were moist and the meat just fell off the bone<br/><br/>We ordered the kids beef burger for my daughter, however a burnt to a crisp chicken burger turned up and also no juice with her meal as advertised. When we asked our waitress to swap the burger and where her juice was, she rudely replied, "well you need to choose one" sorry but she never gave us the options.<br/>The beef burger finally turned up, a burnt dry patty with half melted grated cheese, which my daughter wouldn't eat.<br/>With her meal you get the ice cream and jelly dessert, which never turned up.<br/><br/>We decided to cut our losses and just pay and leave.<br/><br/>Worst thing you can do in this situation is never return and let people know about such a poor dining experience.<br/><br/>2/10

To eat: texan smoked pork balls & a not yo nacho burger.<br/><br/>Taste: delicious!! I highly recommend. Please note that the pics are not an accurate reflection of the portions... the food just looked too good that I had to eat some before I took these pics lol<br/><br/>Price: reasonable, depending on what you order. Including 2x drinks, i spent under $35.<br/><br/>Service: excellent. The staff were friendly and patient and knew enough to make good recommendations of what to order. It was a busy night - all tables booked - but our food still came out in under 20 minutes.<br/><br/>Reason why I didnt rate it a 5: it gets a bit noisy and overcrowded and the lighting was kind of dark. I get how this helps set the atmosphere for some. But I can barely see during daylight so it was a bit of a struggle to see anything without my phone light.
Chelsea
Have only tried the ribs (because why would you want to try anything else?) and they always deliver. Great portions, delicious sauce, plenty of chips. I think they even do all you can eat rib nights. Cool atmosphere. Staff a little grumpy but easily overlooked.
Babygirl88
Loved it, I tried the half pound ribs meal and my daughter had the squid with chips. Very impressed with service and food. Will definitely be back to try other dishes.
FoodieCritic
This place sounded & looked cool but just didn't impress me much. Our waitress looked like she couldn't be bothered serving us and didn't smile at all which set the tone for our night. Okay, she might have had a bad day who knows but it doesn't help if you want customers coming back. There weren't many people in the restaurant but there were so many workers that night and all standing around looking at each other for ages which we found hilarious! The food was very average. I ordered the rashun burger. I didn't realise they were actually putting rashun chips in there. The only thing that gave that burger taste was the bbq sauce in it, but it was okay. However not enough for me to suggest going there in future when thinking of a place to eat out.
Misty
Thought this restaurant was pretty cool in the new Brickworks development - nice vibe and good food (service was average).<br/>We ordered the platter + 3 sides and it was plenty of food for 3 people. They must've changed the menu recently coz the price has increased slightly and a small change in the items included in the platter. <br/>I liked most things in the platter and it was good to try a variety of different meats and sides, so highly recommend getting the platter to share! A disappointment was the bread- it was so hard like a rock almost inedible. <br/>Overall a good experience.
Gavin Leat
came here for lunch , got the heaver clever burger and fries, not much fries , the burger was nice patty a lil dry but not bad. just a classic hamburger i guess but over all was good. partner had the Butlers blade burger which she was very satisfied ! over all was a pleasant lunch, However, decided to come back for dinner, got the pork belly with mac n cheese. Pork belly was really tough was hard to cut though and the crackling was half missing on top! The mac n cheese was cold, which was dissapointing! overall happy with the burgers but pork belly dissapointing ! hopefully next time will be different!
Alysha Powell
I really want to rate this place higher unfortunately i cant. The pork belly, calamari and kids chicken burger meal were wonderful however my partners steak was terrible he said all he could taste was a burnt taste. The service was great till the last point where my son received his kids dessert. The kids menu failed to mention any sort of nuts in the brownie and my son is allergic to nuts. A lovely dinner cut short by having to rush home and give him a dose of his allergy medicine. We were very lucky that his allergy is severe to cashews and not every single nut in the tree nut family.
Queena
My friend said this place had better service than the restaurant opposite it so we went here (I wanted to go to the other one but I hadn't tried this place out so I agreed to it). <br/><br/>Went on a cold rainy Sunday night and they were quite busy. Very warm inside and we were greeted as soon as we walked in. <br/><br/>Ordered "cheese and smoked bacon tater tots" ($15.50) to share and we both ordered a burger each. I had the "heaver cleaver" also $15.50. It was just a classic hamburger. Nothing too impressive. The side of chips was pretty disappointing. Normally there's like a whole heap of chips but this was literally a small handful scattered onto the plate. There was no wow factor with the burger. The "tater tots" we're delicious but very pricey for 5 pieces. <br/><br/>All in all, service was good. Food is average and the price range is a tad on the pricey side (considering the quality and quantity you get).

Great location at the revamped New Lynn Mall especially before or after a movie. Order BBQ Ribs first time ever wondered how I am supposed to eat it then found the food comes off with a fork its that tender. Amazing tastes just know its bad but I will be back. <br/><br/>Could have done with some Stout or maybe some smoke infused beer
Christina
We had been wanting to try this place for a while as their menu looked interesting so finally went on a Saturday night. <br/>Place was a little busy but not so much as we were seated right away. <br/>We ordered a lamb burger and a beef brisket with slaw and mac n cheese.<br/>Food took a while to arrive though, and I was pretty disappointed when I tried it. Beef brisket was soft and tender but the taste was just bizarre- it was too tart and a bit bland at the same time with not enough seasoning or spices. Mac n cheese was terrible as it was gluggy and had a strange cheese sauce. Portion sizes were rather small too so I left still feeling a little hungry. <br/>On the other hand I was told the lamb burger was ok although different to what they expected. <br/>Overall wouldn't come back in a hurry due to their pricey menu and average quality food. It seemed they were trying to emulate a Texan bbq restaurant but failed.

Our first visit I tried the Bock bock (chicken burger) the aioli, slaw and chicken is a delish combo! & very filling! Our second visit, I had the rashun round burger (pulled pork). You will love the rashun round burger if you love rashuns. This nifty burger has rashun chips inside :) and the pulled pork was outstanding! We are now regulars here! The atmosphere and service is good 😌 Would definitely recommend 👌<br/>Yes I agree that there is a lack of fries as other reviewers have mentioned but the burgers are very filling.

We went tonight had pork belly it was tough dry not worth the money the mac & cheese was awful the corn bread was awful won't be backthe rest of our group meals were OK not the best we go out a lot won't be back

Callum McCarthy Busy place, service was friendly & relatively quick. Ribs were massive & on a rib scale 3/5 I had Salmon Steak. Very enjoyable meal 4/5 only criticism too much oil. Snickers Sundaes were delicious! Price was good for decent portion sizes. Great experience overall 😊
Natalie
My partner and I decided to try this for the first time tonight, I got the pork belly and he got the ribs. My pork belly was quite dry and chewy, my partners ribs were very dry and stringy and tasted like you were eating an ash tray with how smokey they were. I presume the smoker is what caused the very dry meat. However, service was good and quite fast (Tuesday night so was relatively quiet). Overall quite disappointed and won't be back.
Michele
This place absolutely exceeded expectations. We've been going to much more expensive BBQ places in the city and Cleaver & Co blew them completely out of the water, for a much better price. The flavours are insane! We got the Pit Master platter to share between the two of us and there was more than enough for 2 people. All of the meat was tender, smokey and delicious. The ribs and the chicken were absolute highlights. <br/><br/>The service was a little bit slow but everyone was friendly and the food came out quickly once we had managed to get someone to take our order. Honestly, just go. Order everything. You won't regret it.
Adeline
Good food-had the platter for 4 people, the buffalo wings was delish, as well as the seafood and the mac n cheese, the side of fries came with delish aioli. The only downside was that it took ages for staff to seat us and we were moved to two different tables due to miscommunication between staff.
Stango
Nice food and generous portions. The meat inside the pulled pork burger was tender, not stringy and didn't get stuck in my teeth like some pulled meats can. Towards the end of the burger, the bottom of the bun started getting pretty soggy but maybe that's because I took some time making my way through it. One thing I didn't like about the burger was the Rashuns (yes, as in the chips). Texture was just a bit weird and half soggy for my liking. I don't know why, I just assumed that the pulled pork would be a sandwich and also contain bacon strips (I guess it was after seeing the image of a pulled pork sandwich from the Viva mag review). <br/><br/>Onion rings were great. Did not like the cornbread at all. Usually I am a huge fan of all things cornbread and cornmeal based but this was super dry and there was no jalapeno or anything in the batter to vary the texture - a pretty boring side which could have had so much potential. <br/><br/>The wings are great if you eat spicy. It's the type of spice that singes your nostrils a bit if you inhale, but I enjoyed it. Spicy, even for a person who generally eats very spicy. I'm not sure if I could have eaten a huge amount of them, but they were a nice side as long as you have a cold drink to go alongside it.

Popped in to Cleaver and Co after seeing a movie. Place looked inviting and so my husband and I walked up to the menu. Everything sounded so good. We decided to dine in, I ordered the pork belly and my husband ordered the ribs. Cant go wro g with ribs and he enjoyed them. I was shocked to receive my order with coleslaw just splattered on a tray which was lined with paper. My pork belly was cold in the middle as was the bowl of mac and cheese. I was so disappointed because I was soooooooo looking forward to digging in. When he waitress asked if our meals were ok, I asked her if I could have my meal heated. She took it away and brought a new meal which I was happy about until I took the first bite. Nothing different. It seemed like I got the same meal back. Anyway, the place itself looks so nice. I hope that based on these reviews that this establishment will work towards improving their service and use bowls for coleslaw. It's so wrong to serve coleslaw on lined paper.

I have been here 3 times now & at all 3 times the food was AMAZING!!! My son loves the ribs & the atmosphere is great. We will be going again the is Saturday 23 April as this is where my daughter wanted to have her 16th birthday dinner. There will be 14 of us so should be a good night & for some of them it will be their first time there. I hope they well love the place as much as we do.

We went there for our anniversary dinner, ordered the $95 platter with a bottle of wine. The platter & service was dissapointing, the wings were extremely salty, spare ribs cold and insipid, told the waitress about it when  she asked  us is everything was OK, seemed helpless. Corn bread was bone dry and crumbly, had to ask for water. Only saving grace was the wine. We have had better food in lesser known pubs. Not sure we would visit again

Visited Cleaver and Co. for dinner with my family. <br/>We got both the large (pitmaster) and half (half dog quattro) platters, 2 sides of chips, and a side of coleslaw. Surprisingly a lot of food for 8 people! The sides were delicious but probably unnecessary for a group of 8 <br/><br/>Loved the bacon tater tots - recommend highly! The mac and cheese balls were quite good too. Although I prefer savoury, the ribs were coated in a sweet sauce which was quite good!<br/><br/>Awesome atmosphere and good service! Platters were packed with a good variety of foods, a good way to satisfy everyone's taste buds.

Came here on a Friday night - was a bit busy. Took a few mins for staff to find us table. Kinda looked like they didn't have a system because two staff members were trying to find us tables thinking we had just come in and nobody else was helping.<br/>Had the Mac and cheese bites as a starter - very let down. They were flavourless.<br/>Had the bock bock chicken burger as a main - burger was good. Came with too many fries and the fries became very dry after a while.<br/>Would like to try other things on their menu though.

It was my first time here, my partner had been for lunch with work once before.  <br/><br/>Were treated and seated very promptly, and our drinks order taken and delivered quickly.  We chose to go with the meat platter so we could try a bit of everything.  Prawns and meat balls were great, ribs and beef was good, chicken wings were just spicy enough without taking you to that place that  makes you regret having them.  Mac n cheese balls were good, especially if my partner who hates mac n cheese liked them.<br/><br/>I was impressed with the service, each person who interacted with us was pleasant engaged and timely in their service.

Tonight I had the worst burger of my life. I got the steak burger and It literally tasted like I was eating air, it was so flavourless and gross I didn't enjoy one bite. I cannot believe this place thinks it's okay to serve and charge $18 dollars for a really shit burger. My partner thought his burger was dry and average, I tasted his and it was way better than mine. Chicken wings were okay, but it did say crispy on the description but it wasn't faintly crispy. Best thing about the meal was the chips and the BBQ sauce on the table, I literally covered everything in that sauce so I could actually taste something.

Great beer on tap (Emersons). Great service...very friendly, although she messed up the Burger order (I don't understand restaurants that don't make sure their staff use a pen and paper when taking orders?)<br/><br/>We ordered a burger, the meatballs and a salad, all of which were reasonably fine (nothing to get too excited about).<br/><br/>Is it better than Goode? Yes. Better than Bodrum? No.<br/><br/>We'll definitely return, but this is more of a mid-week kind of place, rather than something special.

Clever and Co has a great vibe and it is a great addition to New Lynn, however we were slightly disappointed with a couple of things, firstly the waitress who took our drink orders spilt red wine all over one of us, with no apology or an offer to help clean it up, with this been said i do not fault Cleaver and Co with this, i put it down to the waitress being flustered as it was a busy night. The second thing was my meal, i ordered the burger but i couldn't pick it up to eat it as the bun was completely soggy, i ended up eating the filling and leaving the bun to the side. Apart from that everyone else enjoyed their meals and it was a great atmosphere, i am keen to return and give them another chance

I decided to try out some food and had the squeler pork belly it was fantastic <br/>The biggest highlight was the c&c donuts the staff were friendly and the place had a nice little outdoor part.

Massive, delicious, greasy burgers that just melt in your mouth as you take a chunk out of it! Such a cool place to go to and take your family too! Super family-friendly place with a great location! We went for lunch and it was a great lunch, the wait time however was a bit longer than expected.

went here today to try it out. although I was skeptical after reading the not so good reviews on here I still wanted to try the ribs. And what a disappointment it was. Ordered the 1/2kilo bbq ribs. I tell you it was a wasted 14hours of slow cooking because it was dry even though it was covered with bbq sauce and it was way over cooked. asked waiter to change my meal but of course it was the same. overall it was not a good meal but I still had to eat most of it because I ddnt want to waste my money. And the sad part was when the 'waitress' not the chef tried to defend the establishments not very good dry ribs by telling me that its the norm for their ribs to be dry. how pathetic but ups to her for doing her job lol.. my companion ordered the chef's special burger with the rashuns in it and it was not good. very simple food for high price. and they even had the same salad in the burger as the ribs haha.. so much for glamous brickworks. all in all 2.5 because the waiter that greeted us was nice and they even gave 50%off my ribs meal which was fair enough.

My partner and I went to this restaurant last night (valentines day). We had a booking at 7p.m. We did get served straight away, for our drink and entrée orders. Our drinks arrived quite quickly and entrée followed not long after. That is where the good hospitality stopped... <br/><br/> Our mains did not turn up to the table till 8.15.We believe they had forgotten about us. My partner had the bock bock burger with fries and I had The Cleaver Special with chicken.<br/><br/>When his burger finally arrived the fries were cold...so was the burger. We sent it back only the fries must of been reheated. Then the salad arrived it was not what was described on the menu at all it was the worst salad I have ever had. Presentation was also unflattering. Everytime we go out for meals I always have a salad, this looked like ingredients chucked in a bowl with some chicken thrown on the side.<br/><br/> As I had worked the times out as we had a booking somewhere else after dinner. It should of been plenty of time for us to get a full meal, including dessert. But we were totally rushed for time as the main meals turned up so late. Quickly ate some of the main as we were so hungry... and then had to leave. This had spoiled our valentines day experience.<br/><br/>My partner went to pay the bill and explained, so the staff said they would take care of the bill. Unsure about going back to this restaurant again?????

Came for lunch with my partner.   1. The starter of prawns came out with the main. So that would have been nice to enjoy them before our mains.     2.Cold glasses with the beer would have been nice and the water colder too.                                                                                                                                    3. My chicken burger was cold and i do mean cold, so i returned and they did me another one, so this meant we couldn't enjoy our lunch together.(my partner did enjoy his lamb burger  .I haven't been feeling the greatest for the rest of the day,  We were given a voucher for Xmas so i didn't have to pay but it was very disappointing don't be about pushing food out fast really think about the quality.

Came here on a Saturday night for a early dinner..glad we came early as it was packed by 7pm... Service was great! Drinks and food came out fast. We ordered a 'platter' for $60. Everything was delicious only meh was brisket needed more flavour and the corn bread was dry. We also ordered dessert - salted caramel ice cream and a snickers sundae... These took longer to come out and was pretty average for $7. Will come again!!
Paige Venter
Been here a few times. Food is alright but overpriced, except for the burgers. It took us a whole hour to receive our food, and the burger bun was cold. We were not impressed that it took 40 minutes for the chefs to simply start cooking the food, this was at peak time on a Saturday night. We understood the restaurant was near full capacity.

I love this sweet cocktail. And love this Tanks beef rump more, what pretty color! That's the real medium. Very satisfied with nice service and great music there. Reasonable price.

What a great addition to New Lynn's rising variety of eating places!<br/>Food: 8.5/10<br/>Had the Pitmaster Platter with a jug of Macs Gold for $79 split among 3 mates. It was real good! All of us were stuffed! Ribs are absolutely delicious, would come back to this. The only thing that let it down was the odd sauce that came with the chicken wings, perhaps you guys could give an option to change it to something else?<br/><br/>Service: 8/10<br/>Been here twice and the service is above average than most places. Most servers came with a smile and were attentive.<br/><br/>Ambience: 9/10<br/>Love the decor, the attention to detail in this place is fantastic. You can really tell the amount of effort was to design the place with an Texan butcher style ranch. Especially the door handles with cleavers! <br/><br/>Will definitely be back for more of the delicious offerings! Keep it up guys!

Haven't tried the food yet but dessert was really nice and loved the atmosphere/service. Only thing that I was confused at was the fact that I am usually an advocate/lover for Emerson's beer and Emerson's pilsner is one of my favourite beers ever. I am unsure if it is the fact that it was tap beer or perhaps maybe someone installed a different beer to the tap but when I ordered one the hop in it was far too overwhelming for me? I asked the waitress if she ordered me the right one and I watched the bar man pour for me another glass of "emerson's pilsner (?)" and when I first had a sip it was fine but as I drank more the hop flavour just became too intense. I was not really bothered so I left it but I am positive that the beer I was served is not the same as the Emmerson's pilsner I can usually thoroughly enjoy putting away multiple bottles of! I was rather perplexed by this as to whether my tastebuds failed me, it just tastes different on tap or if they had hooked up the wrong beer but regardless would love to come back to try the meals though and I'm going to see if they sell it by the bottle rather than ask for it on tap!!

I have been here twice first time had a heavers burger and that was alright my patty was a bit Burnt but it was nice. <br/><br/>They're generous with their fries which makes the meal even better! Next time will try something different. <br/><br/><br/>Second time was better had the Rashun burger which is pulled pork with slaw and Rashun chips in it. The rashun didn't sound very nice but it actually tasted good with the bbq and cheese taste. <br/><br/>Service was good and received our food (the second time) within good timing. They have faster service than the first time I came.<br/><br/> Will I visit again of course!! I like coming to Cleaver and Co. Esp. <br/>

We went here and the service was great. We ordered the shared platter. Didn't really enjoy it much. The ribs were dry and didn't fall off the bone, I didn't like how the sauce was under all the food, the sauce wasn't particularly nice and ruined the flavour of the food. Service was great as always but the food was a major let down.

I enjoyed the food here but I thought the lady that served us was rude and let down our whole experience.<br/><br/>My dad asked the waitress a question about a bottle of beer. He didn't want it if it wasn't 750ml. I clearly heard her answer him and was like yea yea yea... Fully giving us the impression it was. He even asked her again to double check because she didn't sound confident with the answe the first time. So she brings out the beer and it's a regular sized bottle and he said no... I wanted the 750ml. She turned around and said we don't have it in that size. He said no, remember when you took our order I asked you about it and we talked about. She said "I was saying it's a regular size". I told her no thank you then we didn't want it and OMG if looks could kill... I'd be dead. She was so shirty with us after that she didn't serve us or speak to us again and another waiter took over our table. My dad is the sweetest and felt terrible even though it wasn't his fault and it really spoilt his lunch i think. <br/><br/>Beef burger - decent sized portion so I thought it was good value for money and it tasted great. Patty was flavoursome and juicy.<br/><br/>Pulled pork sandwich - pork was really nice and so were all the fillings out together. Another big sandwich so I thought good value for money BUT the whole dish would be improved if they toasted the bread. It came on super soft grainy bread which was delicious but gave the sandwich an uncomfortable stodgy texture, like the bread and fillings melted into each other when you took a bite but not in a good way. Easy fix tho... Just toast the bread.<br/><br/>Jalapeño poppers - these were super spicy. Between 6 of us we only ate 2. We all live spicy spicy food but This was overkill on the jalapeño.<br/><br/>Donut stack - wouldn't get this again. Was disappointing portion size. My dad thought it sounded amazin and I thought he was gonna cry when he saw how small the portion was lol. <br/><br/>Overall the place is nice and I would give it another try, unless that not very nice waitress is there. But nothing super stand out in my opinion, except the nice atmosphere and great location.<br/>

First impression was nicely set up, nice menu and super clean! Staff were great, friendly and attentive =) Food was a bit of a miss, one word: bland. Ordered a Book Book burger, while the chicken breast was massive, it was dry (even by looking at it) and only came with coleslaw, missing the bacon, sauce and cheese, was unseasoned. The fries that came with it were unsalted too, as well as my squid. Pitty the kitchen let down the great FOH staff!
TheMʌverick
Came here for dinner with the missus. Rustic/ old western type decor presented beautifully with a modern twist. I had the pork belly and my missus had the beef rump (medium rare), the pork belly was so tender it literally just melted in my mouth. The mac n cheese was good, it's kinda hard to stuff that one up. I loved the pitboss slaw, not overly tangy it went well with the pork, no complaints about the rump steak from my gf, I had a bite and it was seasoned & cooked perfectly! EDIT: Our 2nd visit, the quality in food had somewhat depreciated, prices increased a bit and everything served on our platter didn't appear to be fresh but reheated.

Really enjoyed the meal tonight.  The scotch fillet (though a little chewy) was perfectly cooked & the flavour was amazing; pairing it with perfectly cooked broccolini and ranch potatoes (yum!), was delicious.  Had a taste of the pork belly & I'm having that next time!

This place gets packed so I recommend reserving a table beforehand. Excellent service and great environment. Love their appetizers 👌 I recommend the ribs for a shared platter. It's excellent!! ( it's 1kg. Emphasis on the 'shared' unless u knw, ur super hungry u can eat a horse kinda deal)

Long overdue review of a darling restaurant, came here three nights in a row and finally drew my conclusion. <br/>I had the pulled pork sandwich one night and the pork was so tender and every bite was bursting with flavor, the chips simply completed the meal. The bock bock despite gaining brownie points on the real chicken breast in the burger, is a pain to eat. Ended up having to deconstruct it and that is not the way to enjoy a burger. <br/>On another night I ordered the half kilo of ribs, considering the price I was expecting a lot more from the ribs, the smoky flavor shone right through but that's all that really shines. The bbq sauce on top really felt like it was a last minute decision and didn't quite compliment the ribs. I did really enjoy the corn, the maple butter just made every bite of corn a morsel of joy, the savory butter just melted into the sweetness of the corn with an ever so subtle undertone of maple. Loved it! <br/>Now for dessert. It's slightly disappointing to see the limited selection of desserts but boy oh boy do they make up for it in taste. <br/>In all honesty I would go to Cleaver & Co just for the dessert. <br/>I had the snickers Sundae one night, the C&C donuts on another and the key lime cheesecake on the first night I was there. <br/>The base of the cheesecake was so soft and if it weren't for the pistachios the entire dish would've had no texture at all. The cheesecake definitely was quite borderline average and I would most definitely not give it another go. <br/>But the donuts and sundae on the other hand are different stories. I have quite a sweet tooth so when I had a deconstructed snickers sundae in front of me I enjoyed every mouthful, especially their beautiful caramel sauce, although it wouldn't hurt to ease up on the whipped cream. <br/>The warm delectable donuts were bites of heaven served fantastically with salted caramel ice cream. It's really a dish you must taste to understand. <br/><br/>Cannot wait to be back

Went here on a Thursday nite after a movie. The place was half - two thirds full. We were served drinks right away and our food was served super quick too. Good food and good service means I will recommend to friends and be returning!

Very busy place which had a great vibe. Was seated and served very quickly. I understand that it is a steakhouse which had great delicious options, but would like maybe more variety amongst the dessert options, but overall great restaurant. Surprisingly great coffee for a steakhouse.

Been here 2 times now and have gotten the same thing because it was just that good! The pork sandwich was so juicy, the chips nice and crunchy and the Mac and cheese was great too. Last time I went was quite busy (full house almost) but I didn't have to wait too long for the food and the staff were friendly and attentive too. <br/><br/>The dessert came out a little bit early but I'm a slow eater, and the snickers sundae looked too good not to go for immediately so I had to take my sandwich home 😩 Still tasted great later that night tho and I'll definitely be going back often 🍔🍰🍹👍🏾

Lunch today.   First time at Cleavers, I don't usually do ribs but the  'pit master platter' was a sumptuous feast for two at a modest $59.  I would concur with Sally and others before, this is a good substantial and more-ish meal.   A mix of spicy and smokey flavours and a tasty variety of meats.<br/><br/>The staff we came in contact with were friendly NZ folks and most helpful, and the service was efficient.   Recommended for a substantial informal meal.

I absolutely love the addition of the Brickworks area to Lynnmall and was excited to try Cleaver & Co. I was definitely a fan of the amount of seating they had inside and out but given that it was a extremely hot day, we sat inside. Absolutely love the decor; it was rustic but in a very modern way. <br/><br/>We ordered the 'pitmaster platter' which at $59 included 1/2 kilo ribs, beef brisket, chicken wings, Mac and cheese bites, Texan smoked meat balls, gunpowder prawns and a smoked pork sausage. <br/><br/>For two people, the platter is more than enough and I'd say we were both pretty big meat eaters. My favourites were the gunpowder prawns, the ribs and the Mac n cheese bites!!!! The bites of were cheesy and had a very very thin deep fried crumb and was seriously a ball of delicious. The pork sausage on the other hand was very dry and firm and neither of us were very fond of it. Although normally a big fan of smoked brisket, I can't say I enjoyed it either. I was also not impressed seeing that they put the sauce in each compartment with the respected item. I.e. Blue cheese sauce with the wings. I find this quite annoying I am not very fond of blue cheese and would have like the option of dipping if I wanted it. <br/><br/>The service was ok - some were very helpful and friendly and some although noticing we had no water left, walked straight past. Hmm.

Came here on a Tuesday night it was my first time entering the brickworks area and it is so fancy I love it . Entering cleaver and co was such a fun filled atmosphere it seemed like one of those places that "man vs food" come into . It was actually quite busy for a Tuesday night. Because my one year old son was with us we waited for a table that was suitable for a high chair . The wait wasn't too long, the manager was so polite and nice her customer service was amazing . Went upstairs to our table the man serving us was just as amazing lovely and very friendly. There were two girls who were really nice but at some point you could tell they didn't know all the table numbers, we saw our beer jug go to another table. Sometimes they would talk in the corner and wouldn't pay attention to the customers. <br/><br/>Food was delicious. Pit masters platter was the highlight of our meal, so many different things on there and also some of the meat had a yummy smoked flavour with it. I guarantee if you get this it will make you full. I got the burger but after sharing the platter with my partner I was too full to eat my burger . But the burger has this succulent flavour to it and the aioli sauce makes you drool over the tasty flavours combined with it .<br/><br/>I really enjoyed our time here.<br/>You will see us again soon.

Visited from the North Shore wasn't too sure what to expect, greatly exceeded my expectations. Had the pulled pork sandwich and the snickers sundae, very reasonably priced and great food!!

Pretty good place to dine for lunch or dinner.  Staff are friend and efficient.  The meals are not too bad either.  One of the most popular meals is the pork spare ribs. The Burgers are amazing also.  The Platters are totally amazing too!! Must check it out if you are in New Lynn Brickworks.

We stopped in for lunch at about 1.30. I was very surprised at the speed our food arrived as there were a lot of people there. We ordered a platter to share with Chicken wings, prawns, pork spare ribs, brisket, meat balls and macaroni cheese. Also a very nice salad. The platter was great and very hard to decide which was best. An easy decision to make We will return.Paul & Lesley

Wow! Those ribs were amazing and the snickers sundae so good! Greats kids menu too. Everyone is very full, very happy and in need of a little nap..
Brendan Mackie
Service was great! But the food was disappointing the meat platter had way to much sauces all over it, the desert was doughnuts they were so hard a knife couldn't get threw them! And the chef burnt something and smoked out the place! Must of had a bad day

Today I visited the new Cleaver & Co which has just recently opened in the New Lynn Mall. I was very disappointed as the food was disgusting. My Sargent Peppers salad was not fresh, the flavours did not compliment one another and I didn't eat any of it. My friend got the Chicken Breast, the potatoes were doughy and flavourless, the chicken was dry and the Broccoli was uneatable. When paying for our bill at the front desk, they had no idea what table we had been sitting at. They need some sort of number system on their tables.  Would not recommend their food or service.
Robyn Atley
I ordered the chiken breast from the grill, but it was the equvilent of a peice of chiken breast oven cooked no flavour not even salt. Funny that because the betsey lamb that people ordered on the table were over seasoned. Good vibes in the restraunt, all orders came out at good pace. Desert was average i ordered the snickers icecream but the portion size compared to the brownies is alot smaller so for ten dollars you get more brownie for your money. I think they excell in their platters not their mains Vanz Talisa Niko Lilo

I was looking forward to eating here as the ambience of the place seemed chilled out & relaxing. We sat upstairs 10 minutes in appetizers came the entire table seemed to enjoy the mixed platter. I however, downed the water bottle as there was more spicy food which i wasn't told of. Mains was served 10 - 12 mins after and my choice of the grilled rump steak came. It was grilled like a piece of burnt coal - black as midnight, and tasted like chalk. However, I did manage to eat it....just! Dessert was ok. I would recommend this place it's good I would hope my next visit is far better....food wise!!<br/>Robyn Atley <br/>Niko Lilo

Looking forward to going back to Cleaver & Co, the food was outstanding... you have to try the smoked ribs and the spicy chicken wings! Great atmosphere as well but definitely going back for the food!

I can eat anything, anywhere, but will not be going back to this place.<br/><br/>I assumed it was a meat place, but they have 2 steaks on the menu, rump or scotch fillet.  The rest is brisket, ribs and salmon, chicken etc.<br/><br/>A (small) glass of beer starts at $8.95 and goes up to $11.20.<br/><br/>The 'brisket' meal I had was basically a kind of stew, which just tasted of the sauce they put with it.  The pineapple juice is apple juice and even the kids complained about their meals.<br/><br/>Parking is also terrible at Lynmall now.

We had an amazing meal at Cleaver & Co last night. Super tasty food accompanied by even better service. Even though the place was jam packed we were looked after so well. Definitely recommend it 5 stars!!!!!!!!!!!!

Exceeded my expectations! For being an American style, food chain-type, steakhouse, I honestly wasn't expecting much. But boy was I wrong! I thought from the meat and butcher knives adorning the otherwise rustic chic restaurant, that I wouldn't get a great dining experience as I don't eat red meat. But.. <br/>Food was absolutely delicious and tasty!! Full of flavour and hearty servings with delicious sauces, we ordered the platter - a steal for $59 which feeds 3 people. I devoured the prawns, squid and cheese and mac bites, and would absolutely absolutely recommend the chicken wings! So well flavoured with the most delicious blue cheese sauce. If you think the menu sounds a little hard on the arteries.. They also have a range of salads which you can add meat to. I had a salmon and quinoa salad. <br/><br/>Overall, if you're after a hearty, full flavoured American style meal. Hot off the grill and house-smoked.. Definitely give Cleaver & Co a go.

For a Tuesday night this place was packed. We somehow got the table upstairs. Nice ambience and well designed place . There was a lot that we ordered but the best was Buffalo chicken wings. Also all their dips were really nice ,Food was on time no delays even they were busy ..didn't take too long but they definitely have to look for better staff as there were 4 to 5 staff moving up and down with no clue and every time we ver served by different staff. Over all not a bad experience.

Don't like complaining as I was in the business and realise the long hours and hard work that is involved. However I do find it pertinent that the owners are given feedback on experiences. I have been here 4 times and all 4 times, I have had a very "average" experience. At one of those times, a quiet Thursday night, the waiter/manager seemed to be arrogantly arguing with my companion and myself as to why we could not eat our food outside. We had our table inside and wanted to eat outside on a hot summers night, but we're sadly refused. The staff seem more engrossed in their own personal lives than attending to customers. On one occasion they were all gathered around a table eating on their break.... The tall barman/manager was tapping the waitresses on their backsides with the bottle opener. You are about to open my bottle of beer with that.... Keep it proffesional guys. I had such high hopes for this place, could be good if some changes were made.

Have been to Cleaver and Co a couple of times now and just love it!!<br/>It has a great vibe, brilliant music (I could toe tap all day) and feels warm and cosy.<br/>First time I went I was outside in the sun on a Sunday afternoon having a few sneaky vinos... perfect!<br/>Second time I went (this Wednesday evening before a movie) we were advised that there would be a wait on food - this was fine as we had given ourselves plenty of time before the movie started... we were seated straight away, drink order taken and delivered quickly followed by our food order taken. We shared a platter and few of the 'small bites' all were delicious with a great smoky flavour.  Our food came out a lot faster than they advised us which was ideal as it meant I could have dessert... OMG the 'snickers sundae'...amazing!!!<br/>Our waitress was super attentive without being over the top... when we left to catch our movie, several staff members said thank you, see you next time.<br/>We will be back for sure... loved it!!

Came here on a Saturday night when it was packed and we had a large group (15). Amazed with how quickly food arrived given the size of the group and how busy it was when we were there. Ribs, brisket and steak were delicious. Ribs fell off the bone as you picked them up. Chicken wings and meatballs were good. Prawns and mac & cheese bites were bland, as was the sausage on the platter. Others in our group also said the coleslaw was bland. Service was pleasant & friendly, attentive, fast and efficient. Food arrived warm. Only negative was the warm side plates for the platter were brought too soon, so were old when food arrived, it that's reasonably minor. Whatever problems they may have had previously they seem to have sorted them out (unless we just got lucky).
Beverly Semu
first impression, wanted to try the meats straight away. got told upon arrival that there's a 40minute wait on the food, said algood. got seated and he whole time, a lovely lady was always taking care of us asking if we're OK and needed anything until the food arrived which actually came in usual standard restaurant time - about 15-20minutes being there. we ordered a platter cos we wanted to try out all their meats and this is what it looks like. meat was really nice, so many flavours involved tho had to take it easy lol but really enjoyed the prawns & the meatballs the best! pork ribs weren't bad but overall the platter is definitely not for just two people lol probably four! it's really good overall and enjoyed being here. will definitely be back to try out some other stuff! thanks :)

We had a share platter for $59.90 for 3 people and it was super filling! The food was great and the service was awesome! My fave were the prawns and the wings. The food came out very quickly and the waitress kept checking if we were alright and if we needed anything which was lovely. Negatives were that we had to ask for cutlery that should have been provided with the meal such as steak knife and spoons. Also they did not have some of the items on the menu which was strange. All in all it was a pleasant evening!

UPDATED REVIEW 13/07/17: We came here for dinner before a movie, wanting both quick but special enough for a rare date night. <br/><br/>We ordered the "Pitmaster Platter" which was juuuuuuust on the satisfying "almost but not QUITE too big" size for two people. We liked the variety of things to try - ribs, lamb balls, spicy chicken wings, macaroni bites, salt and pepper squid, and bread. <br/><br/>All the dishes came with loads of sauce, and very tasty. If I have any complaint it's that the three small dinner rolls weren't really enough to help soak up the sauces, and seemed more mass-produced than the authentic home-made bread I was hoping for. <br/><br/>Service was exceptionally efficient and friendly, giving us ample time to sit back and consider digestion before our movie. <br/><br/>********************************<br/><br/><br/>Visited for lunch on Sunday. I was a bit cautious given some of the negative reviews, but found the the restaurant fine.<br/><br/>The service was great - we were seated quickly (with room for our pram beside the table), and both the drink and food orders were taken promptly and brought out after a very short wait. The atmosphere was light and airy, with modern concrete and wood decor and funky blackboard-style signs and info-boards. Nice indoor-outdoor flow with big open doors.<br/><br/>The food was mediocre - nice enough, but not spectacular enough for me to go out of my way to go back. I had the beef burger, which had a tasty selection of fillings but the patty was slightly burnt and too big (too much height; I would have preferred a flatter, wider patty). It made the burger difficult to eat with the bun falling apart around the patty. The chips with it were completely unremarkable either way.<br/><br/>My husband had the pork belly, which he was pleased with - very tender and tasty.<br/><br/>I might have liked the food better if we were visiting at dinner time and I was in the mood to try one of the larger smoked-meat dishes. As it was the burger was something I could have eaten anywhere, and wasn't special enough to make a return trip for.
Manic Diner
Dropped by for a meal after the movies and although I was reluctant to dine here due to the negative reviews, my sister insisted we try it as she had a hankering for bbq meat. We ordered the pitmaster platter, fries, drinks and dessert. Service was excellent and food arrived within 15 minutes. Loved the beef brisket, Mac n cheese bites, prawns, wings and oh boy, the st Louis pork rack ribs just fell off the bone!! We were in meatlover's heaven. That platter was more than enough for four hungry diners. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. I wasn't expecting dessert to be as nice as it was. It was delicious. We shared our desserts and practically devoured the c&c donuts..loved the caramel salted ice cream and the snickers sundae was divine..I loved the texture of the oreo cookies and what tasted like peanut brittle. The key lime pie was delish..smooth and velvety. Couldn't fault our experience here at all...the whole table was impressed 😊

A group of mates and myself went here for lunch and the atmosphere was amazing nice and friendly staff. The food was brilliant, real good value for money. Huge variety which we enjoyed, would recommend to my friends and family

My Partner and I wanted a date night and thought we would look around the new Brickworks area in LynnMall. We looked at all the menus and 'Cleaver & Co' won our hearts over , by far! We were greeted as soon as we walked in, it was very busy but the waitress still asked whether we would prefer sitting inside or outside. We ordered drinks whilst looking at the menu and they came out almost instantly. We ordered entree's, and once our entree's came out we placed our order for the mains. As soon as we finished eating our entree's our mains were served. Normally I would like a 5 minute break but I love ribs waaay too much so this was a good thing for me! During our meal we were well looked after. Waitresses making sure we were happy with our meal, asking if we would like a refill on our drinks etc. Service was very friendly and fast, and I do recommend to dine here.

Enjoyed my dinner. Daniel (polish guy) amazing service. Loved my pork belly macaroni cheese & slaw. Affordable. Fast 15mins food was served. Dessert > donuts was good<br/>Love the ambience of the place. Good music.

Came for lunch with a colleague. First intro to staff was a long list of what they didn't have on the menu that day and an explanation about needing another deep fryer because the chef didn't like cooking donuts in the same fryer as meat (good to know the chef has some standards). The food that was available was ok but for the price ($90 for two without any alcoholic drinks) it wasn't great. Service was disorganised with 3 different wait staff all a bit unsure of whether we'd ordered or not they got there in the end after a wait. A disappointing start I thought with a lot of other choices nearby that I'd try next before I came back.

I am a bit surprised by some negative reviews here. Must have been a bad day for the crew. For us it was a great experience. It was fully packed for a Sunday evening but the helpful attendant found a nice place for us. Great food great atmosphere and great service.

I actually feel pretty awful to do this, but this is based on two seperate visits to this establishment. <br/><br/>Menu reads awesome, so we came here quite soon after it had opened. Absolute disaster, I legit almost cried it was that bad. <br/><br/>I ordered a wine and 20 minutes later it hadn't arrived. I could see the wine sitting at the bar along with my table number. Since the tables aren't physically numbered it appeared that the waitresses had NO idea what the numbers meant. I saw 3 waitresses go up to my drink, look around the restaurant, kind of shrug their shoulders and leave it because they had no idea who it belonged too. Eventually I had to go over and ask for my drink (FYI wine sitting for 20 mins tastes bad). <br/><br/>Our food didn't come for 1 hour and 10 minutes. We were not warned of any wait time at any point. Place wasn't even that busy. <br/><br/>When you're waiting for that long, you can't help but look around and start noticing the negatives. Waiters, smile please? At least pretend you aren't absolutely hating every moment of your life. Your moods are infectious. One thing I noticed that was just terrible was a chicken burger was sitting on the pass, ready to be taken to a customer. It sat there for honestly I'd say about 15 minutes. During that time frame, similar to the wine incident, waitresses would come and pick it up wander around, couldn't find the table it belonged too and put it back. I overheard one conversation in fact:<br/>Waitress 1: do you know where table 7 is? Need to give them their chicken burger. <br/>Waitress 2: na who knows <br/>Waitress 1: true /puts chicken burger back down. <br/>HELLO?! People want their food! I was so invested in this chicken burger story and I was pretty bored waiting for my food so my eyes followed it around the entire restaurant and surprise surprise, when lil chick burg found its owner, he was sent straight back to the kitchen because he was cold. No? Would you believe it? <br/><br/>Anyway heaps of this shit was happening, could hear almost everyone around us complaining. One couple actually got up and started screaming about how terrible it was. We were approached 5 times by different waitresses asking to take our order. By the third time I was laughing in their faces. <br/><br/>Finally our food came. 70 minutes later. At this point I'm pissed off. I'm praying the food is so good everything was worth it. <br/><br/>It wasn't. It was cold. Every single thing was cold. We sent it all back and asked for it to be returned hot. My boyfriend actually saw the waitress put the meatballs down in the kitchen and then bring back the same plate. When we said they are colder than they were, she just shrugged. At this point I'm in the mood to punch someone in the face. I ate my sad cold Mac n cheese and felt sorry for myself that I was eating something I wouldn't feed my dog. The food was just gross because it was cold and not fresh. <br/><br/>End of the meal, we barely ate it and we asked to speak to a manager. She was actually super nice and fixed our bill for us and gave us a voucher to come back and give them a second chance. Teething problems she called it. I said to her no you just hired some awful waitresses. <br/><br/>Everyone deserves a second chance right? So today we go back, given it some time and Monday Lunchtime the restaurant was empty. Straight away I thought yay at least our food will come out fast. <br/><br/>Ordered our food and were told a couple of things weren't available - weird? But that's alright. Still the same issues with the waitress. We were literally the ONLY people there and a second waitress came and asked to take our order directly after we had just ordered -___- is there no communication in this place? <br/><br/>Waited about 30 minutes for our food. We ordered the New Leaf salad with grilled chicken, mac n cheese bites and pulled pork sandwich. Mac n cheese bites were hot and yum I was genuinely pleased with these but our mains were honestly disgusting. Chicken was so bland and tasted off, didn't want to risk continuing to eat it. Don't even get me started on the salad which was minuscule for $21. Boyfriend said pork sandwich was gross (literally a sandwich on a piece of molenburg bread or whatever) and side of about 5 fries lol. He has also spent the whole afternoon on the toilet so who knows what's happened there. <br/><br/>Shitty experience times two. I appreciate the managers attempt to fix the issues, but really no fixing has been done at all. <br/><br/>HIRE NEW STAFF. A RESTAURANT CANNOT RUN WITHOUT GOOD STAFF. HIRE PEOPLE WHO ARE ENTHUSIASTIC ABOUT WHAT THEY DO AND THEIR PASSION WILL FLOW ONTO THE SERVICE AND FOOD AND MAKE FOR A FAR BETTER DINING EXPERIENCE. PUT POSITIVITY OUT THERE AND IT WILL COME BACK TO YOU. <br/><br/>Good luck for the future but I truly can't see it getting better with the way they are running things now n

Service - not good, didn't seem to be any structure. There were different waitresses serving us with very little experience. Entrée came, a shared platter, no plates, no knives and forks. The mains came  -  my chicken sandwich was pathetic, coleslaw, lettuce and very dry chicken, no toasted bun and a very small container of fries. I waited until everybody had their meals placed on the table, and then again we had to ask for knives and forks. I know they had only been open for 9 days but it was no excuse for the lack of cohesion. And, everybody at the table commented on how everything tasted very smokey, not just the ribs :-(, Won't be going back, sorry.

Went here for the first time on a Wednesday night. Our second visit to the new Brickworks in New Lynn. Atmosphere was great! Loved the set-up, Great summer seating. Menu was very exciting, especially for a lover of meat. I had the Heaver Cleaver burger at $14.50 and Blondie had the Smoked Pork Belly for $27. When they came to the table, we were definitely impressed. Unfortunately, the excitement stopped after the first bite. Pork belly had no crackling! It was tough and very hard to cut. Smokey taste was beautiful and did sort of make up for the lack of crispy skin. The burger had a very nice taste but "where's the beef?" Ended up with way more bun than burger and had to steal some of Blondies pork to fill up the bun. Fries with the burger were unfortunately a bit undercooked, but I was so hungry, I ate them anyway. All in all, food was no more than a 7 out of 10. Will probably go back, but won't be having the pork again. Had a beer and a wine, but not convinced the beer glass was a pint as stated on the menu?

The most amazing authentic food!! Great platters to share and really filling, great tasting meat & prawns!! Staff are really friendly despite a few 'opening teething problems' the place has a fantastic atmosphere. Can't wait to go back there & will be using the take away services too!

Great food and friendly staff! We had a platter between four and couldn't finish it, but a great way to try a wide variety of the menu! Little Creatures on tap too!! Great vibe!

Okay, I realise the restaurant had only been open a week when we visited but even so, the service was as bad as it gets and the food was 'average' at best.<br/>We arrived just before 6pm on a Thursday night and were seated upstairs.  The lighting up there is so bad we couldn't read our menus, and the tables were so close together that you're constantly getting bumped as people walk past your table.  (None of those could be blamed on it being the first week.)<br/>Eventually ordered and waited and waited and waited.  After other people around us (who ordered after us) had received their meals we questioned the waitress who assured us our meals were almost ready and would be coming up in 'parts'.  Um, excuse me? <br/>Slightly bewildered we waited another 15 minutes before asking again.  This time we were told there would be a delay of an hour.  So we asked to see a manager.  While waiting for a manager our meals came up, in bits (as promised).  First a main, then another main, then a couple of entrees, then another main, and then a good 5 minute delay for the last main.  The manager did finally get up to apologise and offer a round of free drinks.  (Just as well because we had had to lasso a passing waitress to get some drinks as no-one was offering).<br/>Meals were extremely average.  Cold (the corn on the ribs was still frozen), and smothered in bbq sauce.  Our daughters had chook chook burgers and they seemed okay.  My pulled pork sandwich was pulled pork on a sandwich (not even toasted) and was over powered by sauce.  Our waitress kept going on and on about getting a work-out chasing up our food.<br/>We didn't stay for desert, instead cutting our losses quick.  Our bill was an interesting mix of our drinks and somebody elses food.<br/>Okay, they had only been open for a week, but come on, there are a lot of very good waiting staff out there, yet they'd obviously hired all newbies.  Sure they were busy, but then you lock off part of your restaurant (i.e. the upstairs) and keep the numbers to a level where you can provide good food and service.  We won't be in a rush to go back.  They'd have to offer a reasonable reward to have us venture that way again.

We went here as it looked nice and was a new restaurant in New Lynn. We were nothing short of disappointed.. Service was slow perhaps new staff still feeling their way. Chefs looked scruffy and food was disgusting. I ordered a slider which was literally two small slices of bread, not buns, covered in what looked like and tasted like 3 day old KFC coleslaw and too many onions plus 3x slices of stringy tasteless meat. The side of fries was minuscule. My daughter ordered a burger with a side of mac and cheese, her favourite, but was bitterly disappointed and had two pieces of the pasta then left the rest.. My husband had the burger also. Drinks took ages to arrive and cost for this lack lustre simple meal was expensive at $99. It wS my daughters birthday so a very unfortunate choice. We walked away hungry and peed off. No return customers here. Overpriced, bad service, sub standard food. Yuk. Go to Deco in titirangi instead, always delicious and satisfying.

Checking out the new brick works venue seemed rather disappointing after being stuck with lacklustre service and long wait times of over one hour. It seemed as if the staff had also neglected the top level of the restaurant . Apart from this The food was good and prices seemed okay. Because this is a new venue I won't let this stop me from coming back and hoping for a better experience :)

Yummy ! We had the Mac & cheese bites, tater tots, dukin dogs & chicken wings everything was really yum , the place has a great vibe and defiantly will be pumping over summer, we will be back to order sandwiches and ribs they looked amazing , recommend that you book at least for now as its really busy , only problem was they had run out of doughnuts and corn bread :-)

Went in on Saturday for dinner with some friends.  Food was delicious!  Had some nibbles to start in the bar area while we were waiting in a table (I would recommend the jalapeno bombs), then were seated in a cosy booth.  I had ribs from the smoker and they were falling off the bone!  My friends had burgers and the lamb shoulder and they loved them as well.  Meals were really big, great value for the price.   Will return again!

A great place to have Sunday arvo drinks in the sun - exactly what we did. No snacks or food this time but definitely next time we'll find room for food. This time round for service, atmosphere and $28 for a jug of cider I'm certainly not complaining. Lovely Sunday spent just chilling and enjoying West side.<br/>Update: Tried dinner service tonight and it was busy but we were told upfront it would be a 45 minute wait.<br/>Our drinks came out in good time.<br/>Our waitress was a lovely young lady who was attentive to our needs for the most part.<br/>The manager was fantastic and very personable esp walking our meals over with an apology for the wait. Not to mention a free drink each on the house as part of the apology not to mention upsizing Hubby's main. Now that's superb customer service and for that alone we'll definitely go back but just for the drinks esp the $28 jugs!!<br/>Unfortunately our meal orders were mixed up and not what we ordered at all. Normally I would say something but for the simple fact we had the red carpet apology rolled out not just by management but also our waitress we decided not to ruin their genuine apology. It was a long wait but the fact we were told upfront made it palatable. Think the fact we moved to the next table may have mixed it up?<br/>What we ended up with wasn't what I would order so I didn't like it lol...chicken wings isn't squid rings and pork belly in gravy isn't a pulled pork sandwich...hubby's much awaited steak was pork ribs lol which he wouldn't order. Our meal expectation was disappointing especially when he thought the massive plate the manager delivered personally was a 1kg steak but turns out to be 1kg of ribs LMAO!<br/>The ribs and belly tasted the same the only difference being the over generous smothering of sauce and the belly sat in gravy. The chips under the ribs soggy, the slaw drowned in dressing.<br/>New busy joint which has its mojo just not tonight for us in terms of our food order everything else was great.<br/>Update: service attentive and fast. Should be for Sunday arvo though 👍 drinks nice and cold 👍 salt and pepper squid rings, today should be called salt and salt squid rings...too much salt guys and I couldn't eat anymore than 3...even after trying to convince myself it was just me. It wasn't.

Had lunch with the family yesterday it was so well done we all loved everything about it will defiently be back especiailly for the chicken wings...

We ordered the platter and were excited. 1/2 kg of ribs slow cooked and falling of the bone. Home made pork sausages. 1 hr later i ask if my child can at least get his meal chips and squid. He starts eating and then our meal turns up. WTF is this ! no ribs or sausages ! The waitress looks perplexed, weren't you told there is no more? To add insult to injury a table who came after us had ribs ! What kind of restaurant is this. The poor couple behind us had only had a drink each and were still waiting after 2 hours. My wife doesn't want to go back ever again. The manager said sorry its our second day. SO day 2 and you run out of food? Did the cows and pigs run away? why charge full price for meals you don't deliver.

Went here last night for their opening night and loved it. It's all about meat and we had the ribs to start - to die for. Followed by a couple of steaks of course. The portions size was good for the money you pay and the presentation was great too. The Mac and Cheese Balls were the highlight, if they would do them as a main, that would be me all day. It was busy, but the staff did well considering it was their first night, very friendly service from bar and wait staff. I will definitely go back.

We got there for opening night dinner. Loved the look of the diner and was excited to get our hands on some tasty grub. After being seated we had to get a waitresses attention after about 20 minutes to place an order. The entrée came our promptly and the tater tots were great. However we then had to wait an hour and a half for our steaks. During this time the same waitress asked us if there was anything else we wanted? The food once it arrived was delicious and well presented. I guess this is all down to opening night jitters. We'll be back! But if this happens again maybe not a third time.

My partner and I went there for our anniversary dinner at 6.30pm. We were seated and told that the food would take 40 min as they were busy. After waiting for 45 min just to order, we were then told that they had run out of all meat and only had chicken left. Really poor organisation and service. Such a shame.
Ben Ross
Meat restaurant and told they have no meat at 7pm. First night in action what a let down sat for 45 min before we were even told. Thanks for wasting my time. <br/>
