Review The Tannery - New Lynn

Annuskha Dunstan
I didn't realize Bagels were the only savoury food available when I googled for a cafe with Vegan food, and I'm not a big fan of bagels but I actually did enjoy my "Build your own bagel" I also tried one of the vegan slices. Overall fairly nice experience but enjoying the bagel definitely surprised me. Definitely add Mushrooms ($5) I think they were the best part (Recommend by the staff) Thanks

Industrial style, the space is relatively large. The coffee style is distinct and three-dimensional. It seems that the menu only has bagels, which is very refreshing. It's a bit far from where I live, otherwise it's worth visiting often.

I am rating the efficiency of the online order I made recently through their shop. I purchased the rhino milk jug and rhino shot glass for espresso. I am very pleased with the quality of the product, well packaged and was safely delivered. Highly recommended place to get your Barista needs.

From the interior design perspective, the cafe displays the design principles by the utilizing the design elements well. The pine boards has been applied to make lines, Shape, form & patterns neatly. The contract of textures are reflected by the old steel beach, the old barn concrete floor, the natural wood, the plants leaves and even the rug coffee bags etc. The natural light came into through the old high celling vertical windows, which makes the paint and wood pattern look beautiful. Apply green theme are shown obviously into the toilet by bushy wallpaper and green paint. The open board window are connected the roasted coffee space and hospitality area well. There is good balance between Negative space and positive space. In general, all the materials & design do help transfer this very old barn into impressive modern cafe with its personality.

Nice place you would not think it is a cafe from the out side. I like the simple modern decor. They are a coffee roaster and ice cream maker. Mocha was okay, lunch they only served bagels from Best Ugly, which is yummy. Ice cream was good. Parking is limited as no on street parking. Staff did not look like they were enjoying the work, not that friendly, otherwise it would have been a five stars.

This place is perfect for bringing kids for a Sunday brunch. The food is healthy and delicious and there's a fabulous play area for kids. Excellent coffee, and an old school New Zealand caravan kitted out as a playroom. Really good atmosphere and friendly service. Their ice cream is out of this world and they are very generous with it! We couldn't finish our two scoops..!
K
Beautiful trendy set up with viewing areas into the icecream making area, through window in kids caravan. We came here for ice cream and was sadly a bit disappointed. The service was very average. After standing looking at the icecream flavors for a bit no one greeted us... you are instructed with a note to buy it first at register then go pick your flavour. Ok fine. I ordered a kids single scoop and an adults double. The kiddy single scoop, it didn't even make it over the edge of the cone - ie you couldn't see it .. In my double, the 2nd scoop with a bit of encouragement to the server and mention that the scoops were a bit small, the top scoop looked a bit 'healthier' than my first which I felt was on the small side not much bigger than my childs 1 scoop. So as I handed my daughter hers, her face looked so sad - i couldn't, so I asked if they could put a little bit more on, and with consultation with the girl making coffee and or someone else... they very reluctantly agreed to put a shave more on. Had I of known, I may have ordered just the single scoop for her. The icecream looked a bit hard maybe and difficult to scoop, looked like it may have helped to dip the scoop in hot water between scoops? Taste was good however. The flat white for my tasting was a bit burnt, some people strangely like it like this after living in Cambridge for a while and this appears to be the preferance? Ah well, I dont think the staff were in any mood to have me reappear now complaining about coffee and tbh I didnt want to deal with the nonchalant begrudgingness. Chocolate and beetroot muffin came out.... it was really good, must have been the touch of butter added in the really neat paper twist. ;) butter is so good. I eventually ordered the fluffy and I always appreciate when price is $1. $2 and over I think is far more than neccessary... cute choc marshmallow was well enjoyed. Seemed like a lovely place to meet with friends, some were having business meetings it seemed with plugs for laproos and phones to charge while seated with them. Really wanted to like this place more, but stingy icecream serving and attitude with me stating so just really tainted it. EDIT: The owner has been in contact regarding this and has wonderfully offered his own service next time I come in to ensure a better experience here. I'll update later after I visit again. EDIT 26.2.21 for visit on 20.2.21: From the above review which I rated as a 2☆ I have finally returned and experienced what can be described as very satisfying beautiful large ice creams on a hot sunny day. Lovely service from the girls, and who served me gave a free icecream for the disappointment of the previous experience. 2x adult ice creams and 2x single scoops for the children were ordered. So so good!!! Highly recommend the Salted Caramel flavour, it's just every bit creamy and caramelly sweet like a good ice cream should be, and the Double Chocolate I think they call it. Almost like a rich chocolate mousse. Mouthwateringly good. Thank you so much for this wonderful last minute experience. It was a real treat. All the best with the business in future. *Pic numbers 7 on. *Really sorry I cannot add further pics of the latest icecreams, the app keeps stopping and kicking me off.

Amazing service, really friendly staff, loved the coffee, had to buy some even though wasn't planning to. Thoroughly recommend a visit .

Whilst having my first coffee & visit here, I had had a revelation. My writing took off. That means the quality of everything there is 5 star

I had the very good fortune to visit the new Mt Atkinson Coffee Shop at 44b Portage Rd New Lynn! The old Tannery has had an amazing makeover and The Coffee Shop is a very cool space with an awesome vibe. The team is buzzing, the coffee and bagels were perfection as always and every cup you have contributes to the provision of clean water for the good coffee farmers of Kunungu in Western Uganda. All round terrific experience - doing good by drinking good - a definite go to for locals and visitors alike 😊

Great coffee and yummy bagels👍

Their bagels are epic as always! What amazed me the most is their raw macadamia chocolate caramel cake!!! Supper delicious😍 Wanna try other flavors next time!

Friendly service, quick coffee and food, the atmosphere was great, plenty of people around but still quiet enough to be able to chat undisturbed by others' conversations.

This place has got a cool industrial look. An interesting nice place to have your weekend breakfast/brunch. They have a decent selection of bagels. Food wise I rate them 3.5 I had ordered the New Yorker bagel with sesame bun. The bun was pretty good but it didn't come with any cream cheese! My husband ordered "whip-it" that also with no cream cheese :( bagel without cream cheese is no fun! But I must admit once I made my peace with the absence of cream cheese, it wasn't all that bad. The coffee & got chocolate is good, nothing extraordinary. Would go back to try the other bagels.

I overall enjoyed my visit, but found it really hard to study or think about a conversation with the noise that was coming from the surrounding areas/part of the same building? They have peppy music playing over the industrial noise, which is a vibe, just not quite the chill one I was hoping for. I also ordered a bagel with toppings, which was lovely, but difficult to eat in the small basket it was served in. It would have been easier on a plate :)
The Takeaway
GOOD coffee. Staff are on to it. A unique place in a semi industrial area of Newlynn. There is a campervan inside that kids can investigate while you enjoy your beverage. The layout is spacious and has wheelchair access to left of front door. I was surprised how good The Tannery actually is. If you are like me and you enjoy visiting quaint little places for your coffee fix then I can recommend The Tannery.😘

Best. Cafe. Ever. Coffee’s the best I’ve ever tried and the food’s real good too. They’ve got new menus so they’re a must to try. Place looks aesthetically pleasing and defs instagrammable lol. Customer service is superb. All the staff are wonderful. Their coffee beans are also simply the best. I personally get my beans from them always cause other brands just simply won’t do 😩💕

We had our first brunch there today as a birthday celebration and it was the perfect place and atmosphere for the occasion. Friendly staff, very cool decor and a real Westie feel in the design. We enjoyed the lattes, a New Yorker, brisket and salmon bagel with the works tots on the side. The tots are a great snack to share. My personal favourite was the New Yorker. Dessert was a nice vanilla ice cream and fejoa sorbet. Yes, we will come back for another special occasion.
Alex
Nice place to have a bagel and coffee for a busy work day. Service is quick. Will definitely come back sometimes.
Angie
I really like this place, Coffee is fantastic! variety of bagel to choose and its delicious. The place is big and suitable to bring kids along. I definitely will go there again to try other flavor of bagel.

Loved their bagels😍😍😍
Julie
thanks for zomato gold. I could explore great coffee and food in a nice place 😍
Edwar Changwai
Lovely coffee!<br/>Bagels were delicious 👌 and interesting flavour combinations<br/>I recommend the salmon king and pulled pork. This is coming from someone who doesn't eat salmon, it was actually quite creamy and less fishy than I expected! The pulled pork had ranch / slaw and this interesting sesame flavour combination<br/>Great service! Thanks for a nice light lunch was a new and pleasant experience<br/>Use ur gold privleges to save on Cost :)!

Easy 5 stars for this cafe. very good environment and friendly staff. food is nice, and different to most cafe, eg dont have the standard big bfast etc. Good price too. Had the salmon and the beef bagel. would go again if going past that area.

Fabulous place for brunch! Came here with my partner ordered granola, nuttynana bagel, and BBQ Brisket plus two flat whites for drinks. Awesome coffee, amazing food and nice staff. Whole venue is decorated based on a garage with industrial style. Thanks for the pleasant dining experience😍😍

One of the rare gems located out in an industrial area of New Lynn, The Tannery is one of our regulars when it comes to spots to work whilst consuming excessive amounts of caffeine. Every time we go we talk about how we need to try the bagels here, and finally the other day we actually followed through. They have Zomato Gold here so we literally got two bagels for $12, which was truly a bargain for Auckland standards!⁣<br/>⁣<br/>𝐆𝐫𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐁𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐥 🥯 As soon as I saw a vege bagel option with halloumi on it, I was sold. As well as the halloumi, this bad boy was topped with onion jam and strips of grilled capsicum, all on a toasted seasame seed best ugly bagel. The onion jam and capsicum brought a lot of sweetness to the bagel and the saltiness of the halloumi balanced things out nicely. I think it would have benefitted from something fresh to cut through the sweet and salty flavours. The bagel itself was quite small but had a nice density 8/10 ⁣<br/>⁣<br/>𝐓𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐬𝐚 𝐁𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐥 🇮🇹 This is the Tannery’s special bagel of the moment and I would highly recommend. It comes packed with toppings... Pizza sauce, pesto, melted mozzarella, diced tomato, red onion, a sprinkling of parmesan cheese on top (and prosciutto for the meat eaters). There were so many flavours going on but they really went wonderfully together and in my opinion you just can’t go wrong with pesto on a bagel, particularly when paired with so many other goodies. 8.5/10

A trendy scene with great staff. The coffee here is top shelf!

Lovely atmosphere and friendly staff and the food is great.

Been here a couple of times. The staff are the best. The layout of the place is very simple and chill. The loaded tots are my favourite. The king bagel is really nice and fresh too. The chimichunga is very tasty too, but it is rather small for its price. They also have a very nice selection of tea.

Great service and food.... brunch was good and would go again once we have tried all the other cafes in Auckland... staff was friendly and nice

This place have a friendly environment and the inside is definitely what you wouldn't expect when looking from the outside. I went at 10 am; it was busy then but there was space for everyone. I personally think the place is bit pricey. The bagel in the image below cost $14.90; only with Zomato Gold did I think it was worthy of a purchase. They lack in vegetarian and vegan options and I think that is a bit of a downer.<br/><br/>Overall it was a good experience and would definitely visit again.

Our new go to place out West for great bagels and excellent coffee. <br/>Used to walk past the old tannery that smelt awful back in the day. What a great cafe it’s turned out to be today. <br/>Love the kick back atmosphere- not pretentious at all. Good place for families, friend coffee catch up. This is a cool and hip cafe with a variety of seating options. Excellent coffee and the bagels got the big tick from both of us. Service with a smile from everyone working today. <br/>We will definitely go back!

Cute and chilled atmosphere. Portions are a bit small but tasty. Had the Knackerbröd with Pizza topping. It was really tasty. Long black coffee is good.

If I wanted to make my own bagel I would have eaten at home if I’m paying 10$ for a bagel I expect it to be assembled when it arrives not be handed to me on chopping board with the spreads in tiny spread bowls, I didn’t order a deconstructed bagel so don’t give me one.
Tony Ma
Very tasty bagels. The no carb was great too. Icechocolate has lots of Kohu icecream! very satisfying and will be back again.<br/><br/>Service: 5/5<br/>Environment: 4/5<br/>Presentation: 4/5<br/>Food Quality: 4.5/5<br/>Food Quantity: 4.5/5<br/>Price per person: $15-$25

The interior is really cool in this place.<br/>The coffee isn’t fab - but perhaps there was just a bad barista on the day.<br/>Their ice cream gives the café a unique spin.<br/>Nice to see something new popping up in new Lynn.<br/>Shame they don’t have a wider selection of food on their menu, the location and size of the café could handle it I think....

Came here for breakfast, such a nice big local cafe, have kids changing table and toys. They put a huge scooo of kohu rode ice cream in Ice chocolate, taste luxury and smooth. King salmon bagel was soooo good, my husband can't eat bagel so he change to salmon salad, both taste pretty good. Service nice and friendly ,Just a bit slow. But it's worth to wait

Excellent customer service with great smile and friendly. Very nice n big scoops of coconut , matcha and cookie n cream ice cream. We will return again.
Pawan Devaiah
Great ambiance, retro industrial look, kids friendly and good coffee of all the places I have tried so far, bagels is their specialty. They roast their own beans, so if you fancy good beans you can pickup in house
Shanley Jayne
Awesome bagels, huge variety and my favourite place to go. The potato tots are so yummy. Friendly staff, 100% recommend. Great for functions too
Jay
Really great cafe hidden amongst panel beaters in New Lynn. It's quite the Oasis actually. The food is simple - bagels. And it's delicious. The salmon one I got was really fresh and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Same goes for the Coconut Banana smoothie.<br/><br/>The decor, service and style were all really good, and the provision of subtle child friendly things was really nice to see - this is a place for the whole family.<br/><br/>The only downside which isn't their fault is parking - good luck finding any.
Ray Lee
The beef brisket bagel was nice, but too much bbq sauce kills the flavour. Coffee was horrible, had 2 flat white and the beans were over roasted, way too bitter and barely any milk in a flat white.
Ana
Been meaning to try The Tannery for a little while now and can happily say it is my new favourite local. A great range of bagels on the menu (we got The King. The Brisket and some loaded tots), delicious coffee made from beans they've roasted themselves (my partner raved on about the nitro cold brew) and Kohu Road ice cream to treat yourself at the end (the matcha green tea is my favourite but the flat white is also amazing!). Not only was the food and ambience great but the customer service was above and beyond. The staff made us feel very welcome and were easy to talk to. Will definitely go back numerous times!
#fatlyfe
Came here for brunch on the Sunday. The staff looked really stressed out and honestly felt a little bad for them. Could have been understaffed. The food took like 45-50 mins to come out . But when it did it was a knockout. I had the beef brisket bagel along with the loaded tater tots. The tater tots were freaking amazing!!! That brisket needs to be bottled!!!! I will gladly pay for that any day

Very popular place. The King bagel was Yummy! This had salmon, cream cheese, red onion and anchovies. My husband had the fresh cold pressed juice - carrot, apple and orange and I had the chocolate milk shake.<br/>Atmosphere is old school chairs, tables and bench dining. Background music and the constant buzz of activity meant for a pleasant environment. Even though I am not a coffee drinker there was a steady stream of coffee lovers showing appreciation for the local Mt Atkinson blend and if you fancied an ice cream after there was a great supply of Kohu Road to choose from. Owner is friendly and welcoming as were the rest of the staff. If you're in the area you must take the time to call in. There is food and cakes in the display cabinet and a menu board to order from.

Excellent cafe but poor parking provided. The staff were friendly and attentive. Food was quite nice. They got my coffee order wrong but corrected it immediately.<br/>Would come back if around the area.

Went today for lunch with my family. Amazing bagles, Mum who's a vegetarian enjoyed the bagel which onion jam and Halliomi. I loved the chicken fiesta bagel which was nice and<br/>spicy. Great service and a really good find!

Nice to have a quality cafe partnered with Zomato Gold around my area! Ambience is really good, has a sophisticated rustic feel. <br/><br/>Coffee was good as per recommended by a couple friends of mine. We got the The Kings and BBQ Brisket bagels, taters and large pancake. <br/>Loved the coffee, bagels and taters and would definitely come back for those. Pancakes were a hard miss and were dry. <br/><br/>All in all a good spot around my area and would be back again! (But probably would skip the pancakes)
Vaqara_Kana
The star of this hidden gem is the coffee! The bold caramel flavours of their freshly roasted beans come through in the perfect marriage with the skillfully textured milk - first sip nearly brought me to tears lol<br/>Let my first paragraph not over shadow Tannery's menu - first thought upon reading their menu board is where are the usual suspects eggs benedict and smashed avo? Aha, but that's Tanery's secret. An uncomplicated and limited yet confident selection which brings fresh ingredients and amazing combinations to centre stage. We had the pulled brisket and king salmon bagels. We also had a sneaky mango smoothie and ice coffee with dark chocolate ice cream. I'm actually getting emotional just re-living this morning's Breakfast. Complete the experience with the tranquil setting and the friendly staff.

My sister and I came here on a Friday lunchtime with her 2yo and my newborn. The place is well suited to people with kids - the caravan and multiple toys were a hit with my niece. Staff were very friendly. We ordered the halloumi bagels, mango smoothie and passionfruit smoothie. Everything was delicious!<br/><br/>Used zomato gold which was easy and one bagel was free!

4.5/5<br/>We ordered Beef brisket and salmon ones. The dish is very yummy. My friend love a lot. The only thing is I think can be improved the bagel is not that crispy as I expect. The place is coZy. Would like to go again

My partner and I came this morning to try it with the new Zomato gold. The place is great - its a lovely big space with plenty of room between the tables which is nice because even though it was busy we didnt feel crammed at all. The service was lovely and I was slightly starstruck when I realised the owner (who served us) was an actor from one of my favourite shows. She was so lovely and friendly. Between my partner and I we had the works bagel, the bbq brisket bagel, loaded tater tots, ginger cruch slice, iced mocha and a long black. First the coffee - it took a little longer than we would've liked to arrive but it was faultless in taste and the iced mocha was amazing with a delicious scoop of icecream! The bagels were so delicious, I had the works and it was fresh and super tasty and I was really impressed with the presentation. The bbq brisket was also delicious! The loaded tater tots were a must try with the brisket, cheese and sauce it was a match made in heaven. Finally, the ginger crunch slice was delicious, not too sweet but a great balance. Overall this place was great, amazing spot, lovely service and delicious food! We will definitely be back.

Amazing place, amazing food. Love the veggie version of the pizza (halloumi instead of pepperoni) - great coffee.. never to fail disappoint my hunger pangs!! Must try.
Jack
I love this place. We’ve received amazing customer service, feeling like we are noticed and never in the way when bringing in our bubbas. Best coffee. Great food. Cheers.
Jen
Love the coffee, the food is so different and yummy . Great place for family and grandparents to take children as has an amazing play caravan . <br/>Really enjoyed my time there .Great vibe.

Have been to the tannery numerous times since we live in the area. We aren’t spoilt for choice when it comes to cafes, which is why we have returned on occasion. <br/>Every time I go, the takeaway coffee takes far too long. The staff seem to be galavanting around not worrying about customer service and just joking amongst themselves. <br/>Frankly the coffee leaves much to be desired too. Often burnt, or the wrong coffee arrives. <br/>Every time I go I vow not to return following a subpar coffee and poor customer service. This time I’ll stick to it! <br/>On the plus the bagels are good, but can easily pop to best ugly for my fix.
Medium_Rare
Located at a rather obscure place, where the street is filled with autoshops and mechanics, I would have never noticed The Tannery unless I specifically Google Mapped its location. Rated as one of the top cafes in West Auckland and New Lynn, The Tannery was a must visit for me. Coming into it you’ll appreciate the amount space there is, perfect for those families who have kids and are worried about bringing kids out, at the Tannery you can bring your kids out and not worry about disturbing other patrons. <br/><br/>In terms of menu, I like how they have limited the amount choices you have. This is a good thing in my books because it means that the kitchen is confident in its usual and less choice means your selection will be easier. <br/><br/>We were two guys dining in, we aren’t particularly huge eaters but we wanted to have an experience so we opted for two long blacks, the slow-cooked brisket and salmon + cream bagels and a banana ice cream pancake. The food was fresh, flavorsome and mouth-watering in terms of appearance. In particular the beef brisket was the favorite while the pancake came in a close second.<br/><br/>Showstopper: Brisket Bagel and Pancakes.<br/><br/>Overall Grade: A

Lovely service! Amazing food! Never disappoints, always a go to when catching up with friends or family. Personal favorite is the classic salmon bagel
Yafa_josk
Got a good cafe vibe, very modern and industrial. It is as advertised; bagels and ice cream. There is not much else on the menu so it is quite a specialised cafe in terms of bagels and ice cream but it does what it does very well
Vicki Bishop
A bit disappointing for our first visit. Arrived at 12.30 for a take away coffee, smoothie, slice and lemonade in a bottle. Half and hour later we get our order. Slow service. Rude staff. Other customers came in after us and got their order before we did. Coffee was like warm. Wont be back.
Michelle Chua
Love the bagels. Amazing. However the customer service isn’t that great, wasn’t attended properly and I really didn’t like all the birds flying on top of us. I would take away but I would not really have my meal there. <br/>
Michelle Ma Belle
I loved the chilled industrial vibe of this place. The interior is spacious and relaxing. There’s a cute little trailer strung with fairy lights that is also perfect for little ones to play in! <br/><br/>I have always liked places that specialize in one thing - you can be assured that they are done well! In this case it is bagels :) The menu selection was extensive and made my mouth water. My friends and I each picked a different flavor. The bagel texture was amazing. My ‘the grill’ with halloumi cheese and onion jam was divine! I also liked ‘New York’, although my friend found the mustard flavour a touch too strong. The favourite of the day was the beef brisket - slow cooked for 12 hours, it was perfectly tender, and the chipotle sauce was a real kick!<br/><br/>The only thing was that as yummy as the food was, the bagels were quite tiny and the toppings were quite thin - I’m not certain they are quite worth the value for money. Very instagram-worthy presentation though!
Shelly
The Bagels were very delicious and great coffee, very nice and unique atmosphere, love the casualness but the staffs didn’t seem as welcoming. Will be going back for the food :)
Jeffie
The mrs and I just came in for a quick bite. Service is your usual good standard and the ambience is nice, a little of a trendy, hipster vibe. We had the works, the king, New York, a flat white and a peanut butter milkshake.<br/>Everything came out in good times, the place was only half full though. Also everything was delicious, hard to pick a favourite and a least favourite. Maybe a little bit on the pricey side though.
Kaydeen Manukia
Kid friendly!!! :) that wins over everything. <br/>Although the food, ice cream and coffee were so delicious too. This place is perfect! They pretty much only have bagels, ice cream, coffee, smoothies and cold pressed juices, so don’t be going in expecting an eggs bene! Everything is delicious though!!!! The iced mocha blew my mind. They also have a caravan in there that is for the kids to play in, with a table and chairs in if you want to eat in there too or just the kids! So cute! Kiddies can also watch how they make the ice cream from scratch through the window that’s connected to the ice cream factory. <br/>P E R F E C T !
Misscocolitten
A place where you can get a gorgeous coffee (coffee roastery on site!) for the adults and delicious Kohu Road ice creams for the kids, what’s not to love!
Jay
Food : 3.5/5<br/>Price : 4/5<br/>Atmosphere : 5/5<br/>Service : 5/5<br/><br/>Cabinet brioche was rather too dry although bagels were good. However their bagels are nothing special to other bagel stores such as best ugly. Coffee was good and the service was great. It’s really hard to find a good cafe around New Lynn area so I would like to visit here more often for a quick brunch.
Linlin
From the moment I walked in I was greeted by the friendly staff. As a first timer at this place I was impressed with the service and food. Will definitely be back again ☺️

The Tannery is a neat place tucked in New Lynn, that has amazing bagels and equally amazing ice cream. This morning I had ordered a bacon and egg brioche, sweet yet savoury is always the way to go, and though ideally I would’ve liked it a bit hotter than it was, it tasted delicious and wasn’t too heavy for breakfast. I paired it with an iced hibiscus tea that was incorporated with soda-water, it was quite refreshing though I wouldn’t order again (as I prefer still-water.) My partner had ordered the Caesar Bagel and it was packed with deliciousness, it was paired with a hot chocolate which he liked also. Overall, this place is great for its food and prices, though we didn’t know it’s food was focused mainly on bagels; definitely would recommend to others especially with their speedy and friendly service.

I stumbled across this place early this morning on zomato when pondering what to do with my day off. Needless to say I'm glad I found this place. This place is very close to new lynn mall, the other side of portage road, although parking is limited due to all the other business surrounding it.<br/>The decor and atmosphere of this place is amazing. At 9.30 there were a few people in here ordering bagels and coffee. I ordered a cappuccino and a grilled bagel. My friend ordered a flat white and a smore bagel. We both loved our bagels and the price of them is very reasonable. The coffee was equally as good, just what I was after this morning to kick start my day.<br/>Bonus that they have coffee cards, which can be used for coffee and ice cream purchases!<br/>I will definitely be returning back to try out some other goodies!
Harumi
Delicious bagels, drinks and icecream! Beautiful decor and ambience, good service. We recommend the New York bagel, and their coffee and smoothies.
Michael MacLean
The Tannery's the best in the West. Such a nice team, their sweets are moorish and their selection bagels are really delicious. Supreme coffee, hard not to love it all🤙Cheers team.
Amanda Dalgado
Amazing bagels, amazing service! Coffees are a must and you can never beat their ice cream! Been here twice in a week!! I tried their iced mocha today. On such a hot day, it was perfect and can honestly say it's one of the best, if not, the best I have ever tried!! Have to say though, I really miss their chocolate caramel slice- hopefully they bring it back! Will probably be here again next week haha!!
Ashvini Chelliah
Was recommended by a friend about this place in New Lynn so me and a couple of friends went here on a calm Friday morning for brunch.<br/><br/>The service was excellent and the food too was really good! We all ended up picking the same thing on their menu which were their halloumi bagels. It my was my time trying that bagel and wasn’t the best but still good if you’re vegetarian, would suggest you try it! <br/><br/>I also ordered a hot choc while my other two pals ordered and iced chocolate drink which we all very much enjoyed. I loved the interior decoration and contemporary feel inside the cafe with all the plants, magazines and the caravan inside giving it a little retro vibe. Super cool theme and overall glad I finally discovered an AMAZING little cafe close to me that I had no idea existed, for sure not the last time I make a visit!
Phillip Shoebridge
I came here for breakfast but was disappointed to find out they only serve bagels, I don’t eat bread so there were no other options for me. The coffee was very good though. Also they have a children’s caravan with toys in it but it is not suitable for small children because you cannot see them when they are in the caravan, the bagels were a bit overpriced as well, a small bagel with beef on it cost $14
Sakshi Chadha
Went here for dessert on a week day. It’s a spacious cafe with amazing lighting. You know how good sunlight feels after a few rainy days? I know that sounds a bit poetic but it’s lovely in there. <br/>I had two scoops of ice cream in a cup - Flat White and Dark Chocolate; but I did try all of their ice cream flavours and I’m not sorry because omg they were all so good (except for the orange chocolate chip - I mean come on why mix orange with chocolate, disgusting). And I should probably mention that the Flat White flavour is a MUST have because it tastes like a piece of heaven (try it even if you’re not a big fan of coffee). <br/>My friend had a Flat White milkshake and he really liked it as well. <br/>
Manuela Ovalle Herrera
This place is great! I'm so glad that I don't have to go to town to get best ugly bagels!! (Especially because I live out west) <br/><br/>My boyfriend and I ordered the king bagel, the sweet treat bagel and a coconut and blue berry sorbet smoothie. It was all very delicious!! <br/><br/>The decor of the restaurant is awesome and I love that there's a really big area for kids to play in too! <br/><br/>The staff was very lovely and the service was so fast! Thank you tannery!
Kylie
LOOOOOOOOVEEEEEEE!!! ICE CREAM IS SO GOOD BAGELS ARE TOO AND THE COFFEE IS 👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌 SERVICE IS ALSO REALLY GOODDDDDDD 10/10 WOULD GO AGAIN

I went to The Tannery for a quick coffee and a scone. The woman who served me was pleasant and polite and I was served very quickly at the counter. <br/><br/>I ordered a single shot mocha and a cheese scone. Both the scone and coffee arrived in 5 minutes. The mocha was excellent, the shot was very flavourful and the milk itself was very creamy and the<br/> perfect temperature. The scone was heated and served with butter however it was slightly too dense and a little to sweet for a cheese scone.<br/><br/>The cafe environment was really pleasant and being and able to see the coffee roasting was really cool. It has a quirky caravan for children and the music suited the vibes well.<br/><br/>Overall it's a great space with great coffee, sadly the scone let me down however I'll have to be back to try the bagels!

The discreet is great. The coffee is okay and if you like bagels this is a place for you. But sadly the menu is too limited and the service is a touch below to get me as a regular. Easier parking on the weekend as the week days are very hot and miss with finding a space.

Pretty happy with this gem! Yummy best ugly bagels and great space for us with young kids. The caravan is a hit! Will def be back again. Thank you.
Ravi
Awesome customer service with a cosy environment. It's been organised really well inside. You have a range of options in feed and drinks. You can also try the Kohu Road ice creams here. In the hot drinks you can try Matcha or Gold Latte. The Gold Latte goes well in winter .

Went here on a rainy weekend and there are people like us who were needing a brekkie boost in the tannery. I like the open space of this place. Not much parking infront but you should be able to park on the first road past it. Staff are really nice. <br/><br/>Ordered the king which is pretty much a salmon bagel. But hey their bagel might be simple but it was yummy! I enjoyed the fresh salmon with the cream cheese on the soft bagel. Normally some bagels are a bit hard but this one had the perfect softness to it. Would recommend! Mochachinno was perfect as well no need to add sugar. <br/><br/>Might come back again to try the rest of the menu

Cafe serving Beat Ugly bagels and Kohu Road ice cream. Got a caravan as children's play room which is handy. Well decorated place with a nice vibe.
Rosemary Cook
Good bagels and coffee. Nice vibe and good location in New Lynn. Must try the ice cream! Pretty good value for money. Overall a good place especially for the weekend brunches.
TheMʌverick
Amazing bagels! I had the "Nutty Nana" and my mate had "The King", both toasted to perfection with just enough toppings to compliment the bagel itself. Service was quick, decor and ambience gets two thumbs up from me but more than anything, those goddamn bagels impressed me the most

Visited during the late afternoon and there was only one other person there. I would hate to see what the parking situation is like when its busy- its in a industrial area so parking is very limited. <br/><br/>The inside is nice and airy, with modern furnishings, and there is plenty of seating available.<br/><br/>The only really serve bagels (Best Ugly) and local ice cream and some cabinet offerings.<br/><br/>Bagel was yummy, I'd recommend the Whippet and the brioche was ok. Coffee was nice.Staff were friendly. <br/><br/>Overall a decent bagel spot, and a nice addition to the local offering.

So after hearing so much about this place we decide to come have a coffee and afternoon tea here. As soon as we walk in, we didn't see a clean table insight in which I thought Ok they must of been busy. With 5 staff on and the cafe not even half full I still couldn't see any staff clearing tables. Ok so we clear a table and my partner orders for us. I got to say that the lady who served us who was either the manager or owner was so cheerful and welcoming and it was great to see. If it wasn't for her I probably wouldve just walked out. So we ordered an ice mocha, orange choc chip milkshake, mango sorbet, caramel slice and a brownie. Ok so the milkshake was horrible I couldn't even drink it. It had some rancid taste to it that it left a bad taste in my mouth. The ice mocha was so strong and sweet but it was better than the milkshake. Mango sorbet was beautiful. The brownie was ok as well as the caramel slice. Over all i was a little dissatisfied after hearing good things about this place. Work on FOH staff would not go astray here. A friendly smile goes a long way.

Came here for the 1st time today with my son and niece . We order the king and smore , 2x hot chocolate n the banana n berry protein shake:) first time my child has finished a hot chocolate usually doesn't like it but today he did.. told me it was nice 🤗<br/>N his smores. The king was good too much cream cheese for me and my niece but was still good n that goes with the drinks aswell...

Excellent coffee and Local ice cream is a winning combo. Soy, rice and coconut milk is available for the dairy alternative seekers. The Matcha ice cream is amazing. You can buy Kohu Road to take home - cheaper then the supermarket! Large open layout, family friendly, food and treats.

It's now called kohu road. It's a great place to be with kids, they have taken time to create a small playground for the kids which they can enjoy, and who the heck doesn't love Ice creams. My favorite flavors are Vanilla, salted caramel and some of the fruit flavors. The cafe menu is I would say average with something you would get somewhere else as well, but that's not kohu road is known for to begin with. Staff is polite and service is good.
Emily Skye Parsons
Love this place, The coffee is roasted on site by Mt Atkinson coffee, I had a small flat white is it was great brew, strong but very well balanced . We really enjoyed their cold drip coffee too. The King bagel was delish. The salmon was really fresh, when ask I was told comes from Akaroa. Tried the Ice cream too, with already being a fan on Kohu Road I did love trying the seasonal flavours. Friendly and helpful service.
JungYun Lee
Great place to go if you have kida as they are kids friendly. <br/>Variety of ice cream flavours to choose from which they all taste amazing. <br/>I don't really enjoyed their coffee, it is too bitter and sour.

My sisters and I went here for brunch on a Saturday. <br/><br/>Getting there:<br/>The cafe was easy to find and very accessible.<br/><br/>Parking:<br/>There are a few parking spaces right infront of the cafe. You could also park on the grassy area. If there are no more spaces, you could park on the side of the road.<br/><br/>Ambience:<br/>The ambience was nice. I like how it has a relaxed and cosy feel to it. I like the lightings, the interior decorations, the fresh flowers. There's also a little truck where the kids could eat and play. <br/><br/>Service:<br/>You would need to go to the counter to order your meals. The staff were friendly. We did not have to wait very long for our food to be served. It was a good service.<br/><br/>Food:<br/>They serve fresh bagels from Best Ugly Bagels. They have a nice selection of different toppings, and we find that the menu was healthy and organic. We got the BBQ Brisket, The Works and Pizza bagels. The prize ranges from $9 to $15 and we think it was well priced. The portions were not that big - and so it may not be as filling as you'd expect it to be. I had The Works and I find it a bit dry but the overall taste is good. They also serve Gelato, which my sisters said tasted nice. They also have other merchandise that you could buy like Peanut Butter that comes in different flavors (dark chocolate, spicy, crunchy) and Cake Mixes.

Bagels are always tasty and the Huia Food Store goodies always tempting. Coffee is hit or miss depending on the barista. And it's all just very slow.

We arrived early on a Saturday morning and the place was quiet - only one other customer. This is probably why our coffee came out so quickly - there was hardly time to open the newspaper! (By the time we left, there was quite a crowd and the cafe was bustling - obviously a popular spot.)<br/><br/>This is a good place to go if you like bagels, since that's pretty much their entire offering (plus a small cabinet and ice cream.) I had the "whippet", which was whipped feta with pesto, tomato, basil and added prosciutto. I'm a big fan of a pesto, tomato and bacon bagel, and this was similar. The feta and pesto were a very tasty combination - my only quibble was that the feta was quite salty which meant that once you added prosciutto it was almost TOO salty. Not too much to not enjoy though! <br/><br/>I felt the need for a sweet treat and tried a "smore" bagel. At $5.90 quite affordable, and very yummy. It's Nutella with marshmallows on a sweet raisin bagel and I loved it - the half-melted marshmallows with their crispy top were perfect. <br/><br/>I chose a blackcurrant summer spritzer for a drink. At first I thought I'd made a mistake since it was quite bitter, but as it went on and the sweet frozen blackcurrant ice block melted it was delicious. By the time I got to the end with slushy frozen blackcurrant, mint and lemon I was thoroughly enjoying it - a very refreshing summer drink. <br/><br/>The atmosphere is modern, clean and open. I liked the liberal use of fairy lights, and selection of gifts available. There is a caravan with books and toys for kids to explore too, which our toddler liked. (She also enjoyed a fluffy, kids bagel and some of mummy's marshmallow bagel!)
Maiya Richmond
My absolute favourite place to go and have breakfast (options are limited but what is available is delicious!) only disappointment was my spritzer; found it to be to watery but overall great cafe!
Ana Kristi Soniega
Good choices, nice spacious area, good for quick snack or catch up with friends or workmates, although was a bit disheartened by the bagel portions, you defs get more of a decent amount of toppings from best ugly bagels. However tannery still had some good customer service, so that's still a thumbs up from me

An iconic cafe in West Auckland, great coffee, food was very good. Very good service. A great place to go for ice cream because of it's many variety for all types of foodies (gluten, dairy free) - Kohu Road etc.
HelloimAngela
If you love bagels you must come here. There are many options and you could go either super adventurous (eg. Pulled pork) or super basic (eg. Tomato avocado and pesto). I went for the simple option and it was sooooo good. <br/><br/>Nice open environment, lots of tables and spaced out well. Great service and friendly staff. <br/><br/>I did find the coffee to be average, my mocha was quite bitter. <br/><br/>I would definitely 100% come back for bagels tho 😊
Tiana Meintjes
Found this place on Zomato as Im not really familiar with the area but had a appointment for work in New Lynn. What a little gem! Their coffee and bagels are absolutely delicious. I highly recommend!
Jade Lim
Love this café, but unfortunately I had to do a takeaway due to work. The atmosphere is a good as their coffee; which is as good as their bagels; which is as good as Kohu Road ice cream offered at The Tannery.<br/><br/>Oh, joy to be at this hidden jewel out at West Auckland!
Kate Key
Today was the second day I've had a bagel at The Tannery (usually we just pop in for their delicious ice cream and sorbet) and it was another winner! I had The Works without cheese and it was so good. A little dry, but that's probably just because I had it without cheese. I also had their Raspberry Sorbet which was so fresh and tangy, exactly how a sorbet should taste.<br/><br/>The decor at The Tannery is also rad, I love their industrial styling and the simplicity of the place. They know their product is good and they're not afraid to just let their food speak for itself. <br/><br/>I've purchased their dairy free chocolate lovers ice cream and I'd love to see it in their ice cream cabinet, makes a nice creamy alternative to the dairy free sorbets on offer at most ice cream places.
Carmella @ Easy Food Hacks
The Tannery is a joint venture between Mt Atkinson Coffee and Kohu Road Ice-cream. It may sound like an odd pairing, but it actually works remarkably well. Besides, who doesn’t love ice-cream, and I know plenty of coffee-addicted people. The Tannery absolutely lives up to Mt Atkinson’s tagline: Refined Westie. The building’s previous life was a tannery but it’s all grown up. The space uses the exposed timber framing to full industrial chic effect and panelling to recreate the Mt Atkinson peaks.
Vivi S
I would never have come this way normally on my own, so I'm always appreciative when M makes me try places outside of Auckland CBD. The cafe is spacious so they were plenty of room for the kids running around the place while their parents brunched. . The Tannery has their own roasting room, and serves Ugly Bagels.
Eleanor Purdey Smith
If you like ugly bagels then you'd definitely like this. Bagels are fresh and delicious and largely under $10 each. There are large sorbet smoothies and kohu rd ice creams to shut the kids up for at least 20 minutes. Coffee isn't bad and the place has a caravan for kids for you to stick them in so you can have a few more moments to yourself before they go wild. Sunday morning bliss.
N Bishop
Would recommend it if you like overpriced, stale, over done bagels with toppings that look like it was put together by a 3 year old. So many much better options in New Lynn now.
Charlene Weaver
Excellent little cafe spot in the upcoming suburb of New Lynn. <br/><br/>The interior is rustic, industrial, modern and character filled with exposed wooden beams, high ceilings, drop down lights and vintage fittings. <br/><br/>Staff were friendly and attentive, clearing tables as soon as we finished. The menu is simple, providing coffees, drinks, bagels and Kohu ice-cream, proving simple is more! We ordered the king salmon bagel and seasonal bagel, both were fresh and tasty. I didn't enjoy the drinks as much, we ordered a chocolate milkshake and iced chocolate. I hope they improve these, as they both tasted quite watery and bland. Other than this I will definitely come back for bagels, ice cream and perhaps try the cabinet food which looked divine. <br/><br/>

Really cute little place with tasty coffee, and their fruit juice is to die for. A good assortment of nibbles and a great atmosphere to enjoy a pleasant morning in
Marina Samountry
The Tannery has a very simple menu but does it so well. The bagels were generously topped with quality ingredients. My salmon bagel was very fresh. A relaxing environment which would be great to get a bit of work done too. Great, friendly service.

I love this place! <br/><br/>Great coffee roasted on site. All the baristas are top notch so you can count on a great coffee and conversation while its being made. They also have a cool retail section where you can get advice and buy aeropress, chemex and all the accessories.<br/><br/>Everyone loves bagels, and if you don't then order it as a salad. I have massive cravings for the Grilled bagel (onion jam, halloumi, capsicum and basil) and I always add avocado when its in season. The King bagel (salmon, cream cheese, red onion, capers and dill) looks amazing as a salad, which I would order if I liked salmon.<br/><br/>You have to try the CARAMEL SLICE. Oh my goodness this is a slice of heaven (get it? haha)<br/><br/>All in all service was friendly and prompt, the atmosphere was light bright and cheerful, and its easily affordable. I'd recommend this as a place for groups large and small or coffee on the run.

Food and beverages ordered: the work, french toast, donuts, lemon loaf, ice coffee and flat white. <br/><br/>Environment: welcoming and passionate<br/><br/>Services: very friendly <br/><br/>Costs: $20 per person <br/><br/>Will I return: definately<br/><br/>Comment: A hidden jewel in the heart of a upcoming town. Tuck away hidden, this place is a must try for the coffee enthusiast. They roast their own coffee and produce their own ice cream. The roast is well balance between bitterness and acidity. The bagels are awesome (no further comment needed). The lemon loaf and donuts are great compliment with the ice coffee on a sunny day.

We love going here for breakfast or brunch. Fantastic bagels, very good coffee. Can be hard to find, but worth it! Pick up some kohu rd ice cream when you're there :-)
Amy @ My Dining Journey
Wanting a quick breakfast before heading for our hike at Waitekere Ranges, we ordered the only thing on the Tannery’s menu, Al Brown’s Ugly Bagels. My freshly toasted New York bagel with pastrami, Gruyère cheese and cornichons was superb. Delicious combination of salty pastrami with spicy mustard and melted cheese, the cornichons gave a nice tart finish.

Nice big space serving delicious coffee. Good cafe in new Lynn given there isn't too many choices out here. <br/><br/>Service is average as the staff are not too attentive of your presence. However order is taken at the counter so no issues there. <br/><br/>They only serve bagels (from ugly bagel) with delicious toppings. I had the grilled haloumi which came with yummy chutney and grilled capsicum. They also do ice cream but unfortunately I didn't get to try it! <br/><br/>It's a nice place to catch up with friends and family and I can see lots of families coming here due to the kids running around. <br/><br/>Overall food wise, nothing special if you are coming from town... However the coffee did taste very good! Must have been the roasted coffee beans they use. However I requested my cappuccino in a small tulip cup which they didn't have. This would definitely be my go to coffee place if I was out west though. <br/>Vivi S

I love this place! Best bagels and best ice cream! It's close to home, one of my fav places out west. Avocado and tomato basil is my favourite! Lovely staff and pretty set up! Easy to find parking also!

It might be a little bit difficult to find parking on a weekend, but I managed to squeeze into a spot right out front when I visited to grab a quick takeaway lunch. <br/><br/>Interior - excellent. Salmon bagel - delicious! Beetroot, carrot, apple and ginger juice - better than the last one I had from another place. Service - a bit slow.
David Blake
Don't bother with this place.<br/><br/>We tried to book a table for a soccer team on a Saturday, and were told we couldn't.<br/><br/>So we just showed up anyway, and then they said to us "Wow we weren't expecting this many people."<br/><br/>The only actual food they have is over priced bagels.  But if you're there after 3pm the kitchen is closed and you can have ice cream or cookies only.  Despite the place being full of people wanting food.<br/><br/>They also don't serve alcohol, so basically they're useless and there's many many other places to go to which are better.
Thanya
Their bagels taste good, I love their coconut and blueberry smoothie. Spacious space and lovely interior design. Small option on their menu is the only thing I don't like about this place.
Rubab Sultana
Never expected such a beautiful interior in new Lynn..very spacious, wooden architecture and matching chairs and tables! It's a really chilled out place and their service is super quick! Bagels were so good I wanted to eat them all and the kohu road ice cream is just the cherry on top! And how can I not mention their impeccable coffee! All in all one word to describe this place - delicious!
Justin Leung
Another day of ugly bagels hunting! Not an easy place to find but its worth a try. Ordered "the works" bagels, lovely prosciutto with soft avocado on top, what a combination! And the Cronut, stuffed cream in the middle, and melt with the caffe latte... fantasic
Jasmine Sweetie
Best coffee around. I have my coffee black so the raw and quality taste of coffee is important to me! Love the atmosphere and layout. My partner and I had our first date here and it was the perfect place for it - nice but also relaxed!
Frederick Juan De Leon
Spacious place. No outdoors area. Place can be hired for gatherings. Serves bagels and ice cream. They use ugly bagels and the combinations they do are tasty. I ordered the new york it has pastrami, mustard and cheese with jerkins, it was good. Mrs just had the bagel and cream cheese with conserve. It would be nice if they have more options other than bagels.

Great find out of the central city. The Mt Atkinson Coffee rocks and the team were super lovely, making me a delish 'off menu' salad from the Best Ugly Bagel bagel topping of the month (chicken Banhmi). Half point off only for the limited menu choices (coffee - bagels - Kohu Rd ice cream - some sweet slices etc)
Seamus M.
Mmmmm Bagels! They're so good and pretty. I would have more but I'm on a diet plus I had a caramel slice - chunked with caramel and the chocolate on top was deliciously chocolatey 😍 my friend got bagels and hummus, the hummus was so nice I could eat it by itself.<br/>Coffee was amazing too. Such a cool Cafe in an industrial area in New Lynn. The interior is factory like with a couple simple design and spacious to have a group.<br/>So glad I came here it was worth the experience.<br/><br/>Can't wait to visit again.<br/><br/>Really worth visiting
Two Dark Coffees
Now even if you're out and about New Lynn you can subdue your bagel cravings. <br/><br/>New Lynn's hippest cafe The Tannery is home to Al Brown's very own Best Ugly Bagels. An instant crowd pleaser, you can top yours with halloumi cheese, fig paste or even smoked salmon. <br/><br/>The space itself is fit with concrete floors adding an industrial feel too the shed-like building. With a communal table and smaller group seating options, The Tannery caters for all group sizes. <br/><br/>A bit of a drive out from the CBD but completely worth it, even if you are just after an ice cream treat. And if you are that way inclined, how about trying their salted caramel affogato? Constructed with a scoop of Kohu Road salted caramel ice-cream and then topped with shot of espresso - I can guarantee you'll be raving about it afterwards. <br/><br/>Additionally, The Tannery has a cabinet stocked with fresh cronuts and slices prefect to go with a coffee of your choice. <br/><br/>I place I want to revisit shortly and I recommend you do too!<br/><br/>Sarah Reynolds  #challenge

The tannery has been a long time favorite of mine, through a change of name and a big of a change to the menu. <br/><br/>I love this space firstly because of how beautiful it's large, industrial interior is. It's spacious but still has a whole heap of character, the perfect setting for a big group meal or to bring kids (there's even a caravan inside for the kids to hang out in). <br/><br/>Their menu consists of bagels, and I've never wanted anything different from it. Our pick is the one with caramelized onion, haloumi ca, roasted red pepper and fresh basil. These flavors are simple but go together so perfectly. Their French toast bagel is also pretty damn delicious with cream cheese, banana and chocolate. <br/><br/>The freshly squeezed juice here is always super tasty but the coffee is hard to pass up, made with the beautiful mt Atkinson coffee beans and then done to perfection. <br/><br/>For the most incredible end to the meal I totally suggest you try an affogato with their kohu rd ice cream and espresso (salted caramel is the most incredible flavor). <br/><br/>Il keep coming back time and time again, despite the limited menu, because everything they offer is fresh and delicious.

I spent a lovely part of my Saturday here and it seemed many other Aucklanders did too- as The Tannery was filled to the brim in the 3 hours I spent there. Families, couples, groups- the lofty space and their foodie offerings catered for everyone.<br/><br/>For brunch, I enjoyed a bahnmi bagel, hot chocolate and Kohu Road ginger ice cream. The veggies in my bagel were fresh, the peanut butter was of the faultless Fix and Fogg persuasion, and the chicken was tender. It was a joy to eat, and I could use my hands (trust me, it's the easiest way with this one!). A dressing through the salad would have given it an extra punch and helped the peanut butter sticking to the roof of my mouth.<br/><br/>You can try before you buy when it comes to the ice cream- so go for gold! I tasted the Macha, Strawberries and Cream, and Salted Caramel before I settled on the Ginger. If you can pass up the more sugary options, I hands-down recommend this one, and so does the lovely waitress who served me with a smile and patience! <br/><br/>The service is mostly at the counter, and because we were a large group, there was a big wait between the delivery of food amongst us. <br/><br/>I live in the city but if it was easier for me to get to New Lynn, I'd be a regular at The Tannery. It has a great space, atmosphere and personality, paired with simple but great food. I'll make it back one day for the epic-looking caramel slice!<br/>
Emily White
I'm going to be honest. Had I not been invited to brunch at The Tannery, I would never have chosen to go there. Mainly due to the location and small menu.<br/><br/>I need lots of options in a menu and The Tannery basically only provides bagels. Which is fine, I like bagels, but sometimes I need something a little bit more.<br/><br/>However, I was pleasantly surprised with the cafe and food, and would definitely return. <br/><br/>At first I was worried about parking, however down the street a little bit there's a side street with plenty of parking. <br/>The atmosphere of the cafe was great. It was a wide open space with a high roof and quirky decor. It looked like it would be a lovely place to take photos. They also had an old caravan inside the restaurant which you could eat inside - I thought this was a nice interesting touch.<br/><br/>I ordered "The Works" bagel ($14.99) because I was hungry and anything with avocado is a winner in my book. When it came out it looked really small, however upon eating it, I found that it was packed with flavour and actually filled me up quite nicely. The bagels were Best Ugly Bagels and although I have no idea what this means, it was well promoted on their page therefore I assume it's important and they tasted really delicious.<br/><br/>The presentation of the food was really nice (good for photos) and they used quality ingredients. <br/><br/>I am sad that I didn't try any of the elaborate drinks or ice cream, instead I ordered a soy Mocha as I needed a pick-me-up. It was delicious and was quite strong (which I like). <br/><br/>One of the people I was with ordered the most amazing looking caramel slice which was about 6cm thick with caramel. It looked divine and I will definitely be back to try that out.<br/><br/>The staff weren't rude but they weren't over-the-top friendly, however I was happy with the service I received. The cafe was pretty busy which was also a good sign.<br/><br/>Next time I'm in the area I will definitely go back. Nice coffees and delicious food. Reasonably priced, but I wouldn't come here if you want a huge meal or if you don't like bagels. Otherwise, if you're in the area - have a visit! It's definitely worth a look.

I went for brunch here on a busy Saturday morning. It was a busy morning, but the staff were the perfect blend of attentive while also not being too annoying. They picked up dirty dishes in a timely manner, while keeping an eye on the customers needs. There were lots of families with small children, and couples out for brunch, and there was constant demand on the staff. We had pre-ordered our meals, which should have made it a bit easier, but it still took about 20 minutes for our entire group to be served, possibly because their kitchen facilities appeared to be very small. <br/><br/>The food itself was fantastic! I had the granola, and it was delicious. Full of almonds and hazelnuts, with plenty of whole grains. It had fresh fruit (strawberry, pear, and tamarillo) on top along with yoghurt and honey. The honey was a deliciously sweet touch. There was plenty of granola, I only ate half of it. Despite this, I didn’t need to eat for the rest of the day. The bagels the rest of the table ordered looked delicious, although I didn’t try any myself. <br/><br/>I will be heading back to this place for brunch again, and to try out some of the other things on the menu. Yum!

We came for brunch on a Saturday. This is probably not somewhere I would normally stop at and definitely not somewhere I would choose to go based on their limited menu. But I'm really pleased I did go along because the food was good and the venue is amazing. <br/>They hire the space out for private evening events and I can definitely see that being a fantastic thing for dinners, cocktails and the like. <br/><br/>I had an iced coffee which came with a scoop of ice cream in it. That was a lovely surprise and it was really tasty. <br/>I ordered the French toast which is a cinnamon and chocolate bagel served with cream cheese, honey, banana, strawberries, hazelnuts and chocolate chips. It's a lot of stuff on a bagel people! <br/>It was tasty and I enjoyed it. It was served on a wooden board which was cute. <br/>The decor was really lovely and well thought out. They have an old caravan which serves as a playhouse for kids and I did notice that there were a lot of children around. Most of them were well behaved. <br/><br/>I liked that we weren't bothered by staff even though we stayed quite a while and I liked that atmosphere as it turned from brunch to lunch. <br/>A bigger menu would be good. I don't know if the cafe has very limited space regarding kitchens because I could see them making the bagels behind the counter but it would be good to invest in some more equipment. A hot breakfast like bacon and eggs would have been perfect. <br/><br/>I'd go back here for a girl's brunch or even lunch but I think I'd hold out for something from the cabinet instead. The doughnuts looked amazing and would go well with their coffee.

I came to The Tannery for brunch today with a group, and I was very pleased! I have to say I was a bit hesitant, as it's located in a fairly industrial area of New Lynn, but it was a diamond in the rough. The decor is cool, semi-industrial inside but nice and airy, and it was bustling with people. The coffee was nice - I had two! I also had the It Works bagel and it was amazing. I love Best Ugly bagels so much but I don't often get into the city, so having this was great. I was sorely tempted to get another one! The baked goods looked amazing, and my friend who had some said they were delicious.<br/><br/>The service was great, they asked if we wanted more coffees/drinks which so many cafes don't do. They also cleared our plates (boards! Why boards everywhere!) and kept our water jugs topped up. If I lived near this area I would definitely become a regular.

Met here with a dozen ladies from our bloggers club and it was a great venue! I had The Works bagel (gluten free) and the Magic Mike. I mean Magic Slice. Loved both things. Staff were lovely and friendly. I only gave it 4.5 out of 5 because I desperately wanted every slice to be gluten free and it wasn't. I cried a little on the inside 😂

Yum, yum!! Delicious bagels! Not much on their menu but bagels and ice cream but you get different varieties of bagels, sweet and savoury, and also get the option of making your own! I mean I didn't like bagels before.. I came a bit yeh nah, it's just bread, and woah! Delicious! Definitely converted me. I am no doubt about it returning. The whole place has lovely decor too and is nice and open, nicely set out. <br/>
Aimee Young
I visited here for the first time on Monday, lovely simple decor, and not too crowded with too many tables. The coffee was fantastic and I had the smoked salmon bagel which was good, just the right mix of red onion and capers but I can always have more cream cheese. Not somewhere to go if you don't like bagels but the ice cream looked delicious so I will be back with the kids and I am sure they would love playing in the caravan they have especially for children.

Ice cream!<br/><br/>Kohu Road Ice Cream is exceptional, and this is where you'll find it. Pour one of their lovely espressos over a scoop of vanilla and you're well on the way to achieving affogato perfection.<br/><br/>I've heard they do other stuff - but seriously, ice cream.
Angela Reys
The Tannery was a recommendation of a co-worker sometime ago. <br/><br/>As I got there, the menu more focused on bagels! Time to satisfy my bagel crave! The New York is my favourite! I don't think I have enough of it!!<br/><br/>They also have Kohu Road ice cream, my man and a friend of ours love the Salted caramel ice cream. We thought of having one is enough, but they continue to try out other flavours! <br/><br/>The place cafe itself is white, no fancy decor, but I love how they detail by reuse beer bottle as vase. I bought a keep cup there!<br/><br/>Love it!

Love this place. So much space for ma bubs to run around and not be on top of anyone. Cool as look, love it! Coffee gooood and cronuts = amazeballs. Just need to make more cronuts cos a few times ive been and they have run out and my tastebuds may have cried a little!

I kinda like this place. It's industrial, so it doesn't feel too flash, while being in an industrial area means it has heaps of parking nearby. The coffee is nice and the cabinet food looks great. The main items on the menu are bagels which were tasty and filling for a reasonable price.

Like it a lot here. Really great use of space, fantastic coffee and I thought the bagels were great with pastrami and dill pickles. Just superb.

Coffee coffee coffee. The best coffee in new lynn by far. <br/><br/>An official roastery, making there coffee fresh all day every day. The smell is amazing, the coffee is even better. <br/><br/>With great music playing most of the day, and bagels from holy bagels, with avocado. Mmmm <br/><br/>Well done guys on the great spot.

Coffee was good and prompt. Bagels were slow to arrive (we could see the girl faffing around while making them) and were poorly made, my tomatoes were sliced with an obviously blunt knife :/ they also forgot to make my drink. Was delicious when it arrived though definitely try the spritzers

Good brunch place and a decent price. Recommend getting their cronuts! :) seasonal bages tasted kind weird to me. Probably the mustard... unless ur into that?

Beaware if you are after some usual cafe food such as eggs, hashbrowns or a large mealetc, then you will need to look elsewhere.   The Tannery serves grilled Al Brown's best ugly bagels, soup and French toast, Kohu Road ice cream and Mt Atkinson coffee as well as a decent selection of primarily sweet counterfood items.   This place is more of a place to grab a coffee and a light bite on the side.<br/><br/>The cafe is quite spacious with an industrial feel with a caravan for the kids to play in.<br/><br/>Please refer to my site for a more indepth review.

Popped in here for an impromptu afternoon tea about 3pm on a Sunday. I'd been here before, when it was called (I think) just Kohu Road. The layout is very similar to what it was and still have the signature caravan for kids to play in.<br/><br/>They have amazing sounding bagels and Kohu Road ice cream available to buy along with baked goods in the counter. We grabbed two cold drinks and a slice of brownie. Upon ordering I felt the drinks were quite expensive, but receiving them we were happy enough. They were big and presented well and obviously not syrup out of a bottle. Hubby got the cookies and cream milkshake, which was devoured quickly - I managed to grab a sip and it was delicious, like drinking ice cream. I got an iced mocha, complete with real ice and ice cream. The brownie we got came by itself on a large plate of wood, I was a little disappointed it didn't come with an offer of cream or yoghurt, but it was delicious none the less. Very chewy and not overly sweet.<br/><br/>The decor is rustic and beautiful - I think it would make a stunning venue for a wedding reception just quietly.

These guys make the best bagels, a specialty! The salmon and capers one is amazing. Their mochas are just great as well. Best service, Paul is a great guy to chat with and the manager was so welcoming and prompt with orders

Really nice coffee here. One of the best shot blacks I have ever tasted before. Nice contemporary layout and it's really trendy. Love the beautiful lady working there, she is gorgeous. Will head there for coffee there again.

Friendly service, excellent coffee, delicious fresh bagels and some fantastic sweet options in the cabinet. <br/><br/>We are now Saturday regulars at this cafe and, when visiting, take the opportunity to stock up on Best Ugly bagels and Kohu Rd icecream (both of which you can buy in bulk).<br/><br/>A great addition to New Lynn.

I met a friend here for coffee and was very impressed. Polite, friendly service and the young man answered all my questions. Nice presentation, the food came out on cute little bread boards. There is a caravan inside for the kids to play in, complete with books and toys. The cronuts are amazing! And you can get the beautiful Kohu Road ice cream by the scoop. The tables are nicely spaced out so you're not listening in to the conversation next door (and plenty of room for push chairs!). Planning to go back here again today as I have to try the caramel slice!

The story behind the coffee makes this cafe somewhere you want to go anyway. However, when you get there, it is amazing. The coffee is roasted on-site, and is frankly beautiful! The cronuts are amazing though I would say that the food is a wee bit dear. However, for good reason. I like my coffee in a specific way, and they really work hard to give you what you want. Friendly, relaxed and open, this is my new favourite cafe. <br/><br/>It is child friendly, but unlike the chap posting before, I have had no issues with rambunctious children or foreign objects in the food, and whilst things like this will occasionally happen anywhere, it does seem like an inordinate dose of bad luck! I have to wonder if this is someone from a rival company. :-)<br/><br/>Anyway. I am off to meet a friend there now.

Rebranded as the Tannery, formerly Kohu Rd.<br/><br/><br/><br/>Yes it's child friendly which is a good thing, but since when does allowing children running around a café screaming with delight, playing hide and seek in the caravan mean its a fun experience for others? Yes, its the parents responsibility to get their kids to tone it down, but as a host you should remind some parents that there are other patrons who may not appreciate shouting kids when having a quiet coffee.<br/><br/><br/><br/>Coffee was excellent. <br/><br/><br/><br/>Food. Ummm... does finding a long blonde hair in your food sound like fun? When the manager? was informed of this the food was replaced. Sure. But how about throwing in a free coffee for the inconvenience rather than a limp apology? Or even better... an assured apology, followed by a 'sir, of course we will replace your food and since you have to wait for it again we wont charge you for it? I suggest you ask your staff to wear a head net when preparing food.<br/><br/><br/><br/>Was I tempted to take home some beans or ice cream? Nope. At over $60 for a kg of beans and $20 per litre of ice cream I am not paying Herne Bay prices in New Lynn. As of 24/05/14 I see you didn't enter the national ice cream competition...so to claim 'best ice cream ever eaten' on your website makes me chuckle. <br/>12-09-14 Thought I'd give this place another try. Low and behold we waited 45 minutes for a feckin bagel midweek lunchtime with only 3 other tables occupied, none of which were eating. To rub it in the bearded fella made himself a friggen meal before us, his paying customers. Poor.
