Review Juliana's - New Plymouth

So far, this place has made the most delicious burger I have had in years. I recommend trying this beef burger full of fillings with a delicious radish kind of sauce. It was so filling. The price was okay and matched the food. Very worth it 👌

The food was very nice and they are very helpful and friendly too. But it took an hour to get our meal

Friendly, knowledgeable and professional staff. Dishes were well presented and very tasty. We had the jaegerschnitzel and the pork belly. Both dishes were cooked to perfection.

Wow, what a great atmosphere. Dinner here was amazing. Service was brilliant, had the best steak I've had in a long time. The waitresses were so warm and friendly. Meals arrived at the same time and REALLY quick. All in all great experience and we will definitely be back next year.

Lovely atmosphere, plenty of room between tables so not crammed in. Staff wereovely and attentive. The food was beautiful. The brisket was so moist and melted in your mouth and the pork belly was cooked beautifully also. Portion sizes were decent. The toffee dessert was large and I couldn't finish. Was an enjoyable night and would go again.

Absolutley wonderful restaurant located in Devon St East in New Plymouth. The food was delicious, moreish and the servings were large. The prices were very reasonable, far less than I would have expected for such a fine dining experience. The restaurant itself is elegant and the decor is very classy. However, the best thing about this restaurant was the service. Our waitress was brilliant, she was so freindly, helpful, polite, professional, attentive and interacted well with both my parents and my kids. Everything you could possibly want in a server. Bravo. We would definitely go again and I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great dining experience.

Friendly staff and good food. Went here for dinner with my family and had a great experience.

The waitress was very cheerful throughout the night and also had a great wine recommendation.

All mains come with the choice of mashed potatoes or potato gratin and vegetables or salad. I had the sirloin with mushroom sauce, mashed potatoes and vegetables. The sirloin was very big and the quality of the meat was great. It could’ve used more seasoning though, at least more salt. The mashed and veggies were good. My family was happy with their mains too (lamb, pork belly and fish and chips).

We also ordered a few appetizers including the gnocchi and chicken wings which were very good. The fries were a bit average and came with just tomato sauce, was expecting aioli too.

Lastly, we shared a creme brûlée which was delicious.
Lifting the bain marie on bake beans is the kiss of death for me at any continental breakfast. The bacon was undercooked. Eggs and mushrooms okay but luke warm. The only thing recommending this is the convenience if you're staying on site.

What is it with hotel restaurant menus always seeming the same? Anyhoo..... there was a small hiccup when we were told at 9pm that the kitchen was closed despite the advertised hours being longer - however this was swiftly rectified by reception who incidentally have been great our entire stay.

The vegetable slaw that came with the pork belly was a little bland and overdone - however the pork itself and particularly the crackling was amazing.

Good garlic bread, and generous serving sizes.

AVOID if you are vegetarian.

I went to Juliana's for a Christmas lunch, with a pre-booked party of about 50 people. Several people in our party had given the restaurant almost a fortnight's warning that they were vegetarian. There were no vegan orders. While I understand that it is extremely difficult to cater for such a large party, unfortunately Juliana's will have to go into the vast basket of those restaurants for whom vegetarians are an after-thought, and are lumped in with vegans as having exactly the same needs. While the main was good and had a little flair, with a wide variety of vegetables and tastes designed to enhance each other, there were no eggs, cheese, cream or yoghurt to lift this dish out of the ordinary. The dessert was very disappointing - fruit salad. Not tropical fruit salad, or fruit salad with any slightly adventurous tastes, or even a little spice (I asked for cinnamon to liven it up a bit). Again, not even any yoghurt or cream, AND made with the cheapest fruits available. Considering this lunch was $35 per head, the meal was very poor value indeed.

The service: This was planned with military precision - the choice was from two options on the menu - with the exception of the vegetarians, who had no choice at all. The wait staff practically ran down the tables, to get all the dishes out quickly, which was great. Everyone was served promptly, which IS a major coup with such a large group. The problem was that there was no emotion or pleasure at having to serve us - we were just a task to be dispatched - a sea of faces to be dealt with as quickly as possible. It affected the whole atmosphere which became almost sterile.

I have never been to Juliana's before and I will not go again.

My husband and I had dinner here on 24/1/14 and we thoroughly enjoyed it.
I'm not sure which planet some of these other reviews are from as we found our experience to be one of good food, excellent service and care, taken with everything connected with the meal.
The staff were very pleasant and the service was good on this busy evening. We would recommend this restaurant as one to put on your list of enjoyable dining experiences. Bon Appetit

Terrible food and waitress were rude when confronted about the sub standard food. Free dessert was offered but damage was done expensive for a low quality restaurant would not advise anyone to dine there!

Been here a couple of times, second time as was given a gift voucher.

Juliana's is a perfect example of why hoteliers in general shouldn't operate restaurants.
Although the food is adequately cooked, the menu is boring and uninspired. It's cooking by numbers. The staff are perfectly adequate but have no enthusiasm and seem to just be going through the motions.

Life is to short for average.

We went for valentines was disappointed that no effort had been made to enhance setting expected there to be candels on tables at least. Staff were very attentive to the point of being intrusive, I did not need to be asked three times how my meal was. Unfortunatly steak was not cooked to order. Weird to have fried gnocci.

About waht should be expected for a motor lodge restaurant

Food was standard restaurant fare, quite well presented, nothing wrong with it but not special either. Friendly and attentive staff. New decor quite sophisticated but not very welcoming. High-backed chairs are HORRIBLY uncomfortable - couldn't wait to leave. Won't go back again because of them.

Went for the first time on Saturday night with 2 other couples. The new restaurant does feel a little like being inside a fish bowl looking out to Devon Street. Although I had a very nice meal and I thought the staff were very good. Handled the birthday boy well, I don't this it is anything on the old Juliana's and they have "short-changed" their brand. It is a nice middle of the road, venue & menu and not the high end that the name draws anyone that had dined at the Juliana's on the 1980-90's.
