Had lunch here on our first day in New Plymouth. We had such a good experience that we returned again the next day. Highlight was definitely the flat bread that was served with the fried chicken. Good and friendly service.

Had heard great things about the food and it did not disappoint. The Eggs Benedict was wonderful, full of flavor and filling. Carrot fruit juice was refreshing. Nice atmosphere. Outdoor patio seating available.

The best high end breakfasts, great coffee, orange juice. So good we went 2 days in a row while visiting New Plymouth. Superb spot beside the art gallery. Excellent prompt service.

What a gem in New Plymouth! I've been quite disappointed with a few of the places we tried, but Monica's eatery saved the trip! I absolutely love their decor and the food which was made to perfection. We had breakfast, Turkish eggs & and an open omelet and scramble eggs with potato rosti for my child, and everyone was divine! The cappuccino & hot chocolate were great too. Pros: Amazing quality food Food comes relatively fast Great set-up & atmosphere Close to the art gallery It's cheaper than most cafes we've been in New Plymouth!!! Cons: Just a few cabinet food (the caramel eclair was soooo good) Their breakfast/lunch menu order is a bit confusing. At 11:30 a.m., they stopped taking breakfast orders and took lunch orders, but the lunch order came after 12:20 p.m., which is a bit overwhelming. 🤔 No kids menu 😕

Hands down one of the best cafe/breakfast I’ve had in NZ! Great coffee, and even better food - enjoyed every bite of my crumpet with the mascarpone and maple! Also the interior of the cafe is very quaint and pretty😍

One of the most gorgeous cafes in Taranaki!! They have a great range of cabinet, menu and drink options. We had a giant slab of carrot cake loaf with some divine lemon cream cheese icing. It does get very busy, but it’s worth the wait. Also well done to whoever’s looking after all those beautiful ferns!!

Everything tastes better in New Plymouth especially if you start your day with breakfast at Monica's. I had the Florentine. Outstanding. Everything was cooked to perfection. Hollandaise sauce was light and flavorful. Mushrooms were tender and meaty. And the egg yolk is a jewel yellow orange. I've never seen anything like it. The potato side was crispy and out of this world sprinkled with sea salt. Service is also outstanding. The interior is flooded with light and beautifully we'll kept plants.

Went for lucnch yesterday with my family, was really good atmosphere and staff service was great. Food was also tasty. But not suitable with kids as they don’t have high chair and only few spots to sit with baby’s stroller as per there staff. At the end we loved the gnocchi and the beetroot juice.

We visited this place last Saturday because of its inviting vibes. Nobody welcome us so we just look for a place to sit. I don’t know if they are used to have foreign customers like us. The way they stared on us makes us feel uncomfortable. Waiting patiently for the menu to be given to us but I ended up going to the counter to get them myself. It was not a busy time back then. The food was average. A bit pricey for its quality. Nonetheless, the interiors of the shop is outstanding.

Went here at on a Sunday morning. The place was quite busy but we were able to get a table. It was 11-ish so my husband and I asked the server if the lunch menu would be available soon. The server was really nice and handed to us the menu for lunch. Then when we were ready to order we called the server again and she asked the “manager on duty” that time if they can serve lunch. The reaction of the manager surprised me, not the most approachable manager definitely. Anyways, most of the restaurants serve “brunch” but obviously that time they weren’t ready yet so we ended up ordering breakfast. The burger and waffle. In my opinion , the servings was small for the price, and the mocha was a little too sweet for my liking. It was all average. The decor was nice though, very relaxing.

Four coffee takeaway spent half an hour to get it, three shots and double shots coffee exactly tasted the same, I hope they can find out why people need to order takeaway not dine in... Probably hire one more professional Barista?

Monica’s is fresh and stylish, loved the look and feel of the place. Staff are super friendly and so helpful.
I ordered kedgeree for breakfast, probably not the best for breki but it was very yummy. The coriander yoghurt was delicious. Went back for breakfast, was delicious!

I found the food a bit pricey for what it was. I didn't think it was not able and nothing too special. The service was average, a bit slow and not very engaging but the place was a nice place to sit.

This place is beautiful, the hanging plants and the decor is amazing. The food though... disappointing. I actually really like the flavours, and it is all super fresh. It is just the tiniest portions! I don't know anyone who would get full off one of their meals, maybe a small child.
I have been there about 4 times now and leave unsatisfied every time. I also have had some cocktails there, the Bellini is SO SMALL, I was shocked. The aperol spritz, Looked pretty but I'm almost certain it had no prosecco in it. Underwhelming.

Such cool airy and modern atmosphere with the glass and hanging plants! Waiter was really attentive too. I had the salmon bruschetta which was yum except it was just a little bit too salty and I think for the price of $16.90, the portion size was a little too small. My friends had the semolina gnocchi and avo bruschetta and both really enjoyed!

Went to Monica's Eatery to have breakfast for my anniversary and ended up sitting down waiting to get served for over 20 minutes. Was a huge let down and in the end we left without getting served.

Was super excited to eat here as we had come down from Auckland and had been eyeing up this place for a few weeks, unfortunately the service was horrible and we ended up walking out after a 20 minute wait just to order a drink.

It used to be great, now... not so much. If you want a 2 hour long brunch and don’t mind waiting for service - ideal. If you want something quick and easy, this is not your place. Service is a real let down.

The food was so good we came back twice during our short stay in NP. The healthy breakfast option - porridge served with coconut cream was simply sublime. Beautifully decorated, perfectly instagrammable. We thought it was the best cafe in NP by a mile. The staff were friendly and attentive and the locally made coffee was great.

First time here and this place looked nice. We ordered calamari and baby octopus and i ordered the Cajun chicken salad. It was lovely the chicken was tender and full of flavor, personally the salad underneath could have more flavor, the calamari was fine nothing special I have had better ones else where. If you were to offer table service then it would be nice to be meal checked as I could of had another drink, really lost the chance of another sale. After the meal was delivered we didn’t get much after that. Overall it’s a nice change to the usual eatery with generic good just small refinements and this place will be. I would go back

Very friendly service from their waitstaff Sandro - he definitely made our visit memorable. He was relatable and took interest in our table and our grandmother on her birthday.

The food too was nice across the table. Only comment is they could look into some vegetarian options.

I came here with my mates for breakfast. It was one of the best cafes I've ever been in NZ. My chia seed pudding was so smooth and delicious. The coffees are beautiful and awakens your lazy morning soul. Coming from Auckland, I really wish there was a Monica's Eatery here too. Thanks for the warm start of our travel.

Great brunch spot, especially for pre art gallery visit, with s nice range of menu items from your classic eggs several ways through to breakfast salads and pea and ricotta fritters with pancetta (These were amazing) . The only down side was that the service was a little on the slow end of things - especially as they didn't seem that busy. Not enough of a problem
To stop me going back however!

Beautiful resturant attached to LenLye in New Plymouth.
Ambience, decor and service great
We had dessert on a late Saturday night and it was delicious. Defs recommend tiramisu :)

We passed by Monica's while strolling through the streets of New Plymouth Central and thought it looked really nice and inviting. The decor was lovely and so were the staff. We ordered the Shrimp Risotto and the Beef Ragu Pasta. The Beef Ragu was good but it did not have depth of flavour. The shrimp on the risotto were juicy but the rice was soupy rather than creamy. Hopefully the next visit will be more satisfying food-wise.

As a group of friends doing a road trip to New Plymouth, we chanced upon Monica's after the place we originally intended to go to was closed for New Years. Monica's is situated next to the Len Lye Centre, and was quite full when we arrived (about 11am). It was fitted out nicely with copper/pastel tones and had a relaxed atmosphere (with a slight "hipster" vibe).

The waiter was friendly and took our coffee orders, and we decided to get a variety of small plates and mains to share. Even though it seemed to be busy, we weren't kept waiting for a ridiculously long period of time.

The calamari/baby octopus and the Florentine fried chicken came first. While the batter on the calamari was ever-so-slightly soggy, the fried chicken was amazing - light, crispy, moist and perfectly seasoned. Our only qualm would have been how little there was to go around! The french fries (which came with a beautiful anchovy mayonnaise) and the creamy portobello mushrooms were equally impressive. The beef cheek ragu pappardelle and prawn risotto were very good, but nothing spectacular.

In addition to our coffees (which were fine), we ordered some "house-made" sodas (the ginger/lime and pineapple/mint). The ginger and lime soda in particular was refreshing, and perfect for a hot summer's day.

All in all, it is not difficult to see why Monica's is recommended by Tripadvisor as a top eatery in New Plymouth. The price was not unreasonable (brunch plates under $20, pastas under $23), though that would only be from our experiences as Aucklanders. Definitely try it out if you are in the area!

What a fantastic spot! Such amazing decor and food! We had breakfast here as we were staying across the road at King & Queen Hotel Suites. The waitress was very friendly and was most accommodating. The food was very enjoyable and well presented. It came out quickly and the coffee was awesome. We did find it interesting after going back the same afternoon, the same waitress didn't even recognise us to say "great to have you back!"

Beautiful breakfasts, great coffee, lovely decor. Pea and ricotta fritters and breakfast salad is outstanding. Return every visit to New Plymouth.

Great location. The atmosphere and decor is really light and has a lovely feel. The staff are friendly and attentive. Breakfast is a delight, their poached eggs were perfect, bright orange and fresh. Dinner on a Sunday was a quiet affair, but the beef meatballs are the best I've ever had, I had to lick my plate. I will always eat here when I'm in town.

beware of the rude hipster barista - we visited Monica's on Sunday morning and had an amazing breakfast on the small terrace - only two tables - great coffee, great food and very attentive service. hence we returned next Monday for same but we ran into the hipster barista. unfortunately he got my first coffee order wrong and that ruined his day, he poured my overheated, burnt coffee into a take away cup and slammed it on my table with such an attitude that the table next door commented on it. we promptly canceled the rest of our orders - probably it was all cooked as it took for a while to the rude hipster barista to prepare the wrong coffees - and we left to enjoy our day, our vacation and our breakfast somewhere else. It's a shame as the cafe is very nice, location is good and we had a lovely first experience - table next two us had similar difficulties with same barista - clearly he was on a mission to ruin everybody's day. Must be hard for the business to survive with staff turning away returning business and the manager on duty allowing it despite raised it twice before leaving.

I love this place so much! It is comfortable and cozy.

The food served was so yummylicious! I especially love their clam pasta! Something not to miss. The coffee was good too.

A place for friends to get together!

Food was pretty good but service was very slow. We waited at least half an hour for our mains and restaurant wasn't even busy. Also, somewhat expensive.
