Review Marbles Buffet Restaurant - New Plymouth

Wow. Absolutely amazing. I tried lots of little bits of everything and every mouthful was perfect, flavourful, fresh and moreish. There is so much choice and just the amount of what's available is mind blowing. I had to come straight back to my room so I could take my pants off. The staff are fantastic, clearing plates, checking drinks and generally just keeping the buffet tidy. I was very well looked after. I thought I was going to go on a cruise for my half life birthday next year but now I am changing my plans to come here and stay at The Devon for a weekend. I am already excited to come back.

A fabulous meal enjoyed by the 6 of us. Such a variety of food. The beef was my favorite, tender, full of flavour and the chickpea & lentil curry OMG, yum yum yum! Will certainly go back.

Food was amasing, very well presented. It was so busy though, could hardly move at times to get food. The young staff looked like they did not want to be there unfortunately, not alot of happy young staff, no smiles.

Great place to stay at when you are in New Plymouth, Nice and clean hotel and Rooms are great and the Restaurant was amazing with lots of different things to eat for dinner or breakfast.

Great tasting food and a good variety. Many different cultures shown with their food. The service was not very good as many plates were piled up on the table before they cleared them up and many kids were yelling and screaming. Overall definitely worth it as the food is delicious and the service and atmosphere is ok.

Good buffet spread. The salad n cold cuts were better than the cooked mains. busy place so do book esp weekends. With 50 bucks per head they don't need to charge $5 for a glass of coke.

Busy but lots of variety with the buffet. The Toblerone cocktail is delicious!

Super friendly and helpful staff easy to navigate around the buffet area. Eating area very well lit and comfortable. food was beautiful

1st time in quite a while but much better than the last time we ate here. Good selection, hot and cold dishes, nice desserts.

Not the same as it used to be but still a good old reliable place to go for dinner.. You can always find something to eat that's a favourite.

Shaun Preston delivered a great show although our group found it loud.. The meal I was surprised at the almost sashimi salmon and the asparagus served with both entree and main.( My husband can't bear asparagus!) Delivery of meals we found efficient with pleasant service, Eye fillet steak was lovely. We enjoyed out night as out of town visitors!

Lovely food and such variety. $45 is not a bad price to pay for a nice buffet dinner. Buffet begins at 6pm and it began to fill up quick for a Monday night so it only shows what a great restaurant this is. Loved the seafood and the mussels. Not a fan of the ice cream but the quantity and variety of everything else made up for that. Clean and well presented. Great staff ⭐️

We frequent marbles for family events, birthdays, anniversaries etc. It’s a great place to bring the kids who are always entertained. Although the last couple of times have had us disappointed, the rise in price is high for the quality of the food, particularly when you are only having 2 plates. We will continue to come back but much less now. Would love to see a birthday club implemented like similar buffet restaurants. “Dine free on your birthday” would be amazing!

Stayed for a couple of days and had both breakfasts and dinners in the restaurant. Buffet style was good. Good range of seafood dishes. Also a variety of desserts. Good value for money but don’t go here for a romantic night out.

Ate here three times in three days - by fate not choice! The food's a bit hit and miss - the beauty of buffet is though that you don't need to suffer through anything for long.

What a great family dining experience. Food food and more food, so many dishes to choose from, all so fresh and delicious, very hard to try everything on offer. The staff, although very young, were great. There were heaps of kids there but never once did I hear screaming or crying babies. For the amount our family ate the price was acceptable. I did feel a bit cramped at the table but would definitely dine there again.

Went to Marbles for a special treat on friday 27th February for my Birthday. Was not a very nice experience at all. The food was cold and the pork chops had hardly any meat on them and were almost unchewable and stringy. There was not a large selection of meat at all. When we were asked if we would like drinks and said NO the waiter then took the wine glasses and tipped the serviettes onto our table. The waiters went past our table many times and our plates ended up sitting on top of each other before they finally came and collected them. Honestly this was not an enjoyable experience and for the price we were not happy. We will never be returning and would be telling others about the way we were treated and to avoid this place. They took our cellphone number when we came in and when I complained I expected that someone would have rung me to speak with me. really not good enough I feel

It is what it is! A family buffet. We had not been for many years and then went to two "big family" gatherings in less than a month. Best advise is go on a busy night when the food is replenished often. It is not a seafood buffet of note, but the oysters and prawns are normally very nice. Some smoked fish is often worth a try. They have Asian, and European selections. Huge selection of mass produced desserts that aren't my thing but the kids love them. Seating is tight and there will be kids running around depending on how bad their parents are! For the occasions when you need to get everyone together Marbles is a reasonable option.

Went there for a dinner with my family, but to me it was unsatisfied. Dessert was flavorless, boring and dry. Hot food selection was less options to choose and it wasn't fresh.

Probably made a mistake to dine there, i should just walk out that place.

Took our girls for their 5th birthday. We had one of the supermarket 20% off vouchers so couldn't complain about the
value. We all had an enjoyable night and the food is pretty
good for a buffet. The desserts are slightly disappointing, especially the soft-serve ice cream.

Only complaint is the drinks are quite expensive (standard restaurant prices) but I guess they have to make their money somewhere. Keen on returning sometime as it is a great place for kids and the staff are friendly.

Husband received gift voucher every birthday from company he worked for. He had worked for same company for over 10 years so yes pretty qualified in reviewing Marbles Buffet. Guess what? Food has not changed in that time...go figure? Neither has the theme, the ugly looking tables, but the amount of ugly tables have increased and be nice or they may sit you under or near the air conditioning unit that is on cold!! Best time we had was leaving the screaming babies, naughty kids and people that didn't even bother showering. Thank goodness they stopped the dancing. And they like topping up bottles with tap water...tepid tap water...that you have to ask for. I guess Captain Pete goes on holiday at the diner's expense! Yes I have children, who have grown into well respecting young adults with children who are well behaved.

Terrible food. Way too many salad selections and not enough main meal options. Obviously most of the seafood comes pre frozen and then thawed and thrown on a plate. Only the older people like it because it's cheaper for them and they like buffets anyway. Over priced. Peter Tenant needs to review the budget in the food department so that people will return. Also a very cramped dining experience.

I am dissapointed in all the negetive reviews on here as it was recommended to me by a lot of taranaki locals.
i enjoyed the food and there was plenty of variety. It wasnt 5 star dining but i dont think you should expect that from a family friendly restaurant. it had a fun and busy vibe for birthdays of all ages and i liked it

I didnt have a problem with the price i thought it was reasonable and if you come to a buffet and dont eat what you pay for then thats your problem
Nicky
Seriously not worth nearly $40, the food wasn't that great and dessert was terrible!! staff were ok but a bit lost, tried charging us for drinks we didn't order. The food wasn't set out like a usual buffet. Would only ever go back if the price was dropped to 20 n the desserts were improved

A huge range of food. Great for a family with kids for a special treat

Food is not bad most of the time staff are always friendly but the price of this place is a MAJOR let done $37.50 for an adult!!!!!!! come on this is just being a bit greedy I think Marbles is a good fun experience but I don't see why it is soo expensive as if a person really eats nearly $40 worth of food. The place needs to be modernized and price to be more reasonable for everyone to enjoy.

Marbles is okay, some experiences are better at times than other times.
however, we once had a family gathering there and was less than pleased with the old tables that we used.next time your there take a peek underneath the tablecloth and see if your surprised by the tables used, very old and gungy.i know its not food but you would thing that new tables would be a really good idea, these have scratches and everything...now marbles compared to sun world is fantastic...i do think though that the prices are very expensive, i think charging a small child the price they do is over the top,you should be allowed to not have to pay for a child under 5 and let them pick off your plate..considering most kids don't really eat especially at a time where they have gone out. they really just get too excited don't they?
anyway...new tables, lower the prices, more family friendly desserts would be great, we don't go that often but i still do like to have a treat out at marbles, i think the food is decent. they don't still have those singer/dancers do they?

Beautiful venue, lovely cooked breakfast and Dinner was just tops. Waitresses were very helpful and friendly.

Marbles staff all friendly and welcoming, and very efficient at clearing the plates. They sing happy birthday to children and some of them do dance routine every hour or so; bizarre, but you get used to it after you've been a few times! Restaurant usually very busy, even from early on, filled with raucous children, who are the only people to appreciate the food there. Kids get balloons and colouring pencils. Food is mediocre at best, bulk cooked, frozen, reheated, you name it. Salads are tolerable and sweets OK. But no-one goes there for the food, they go 'cos the kids love the concept of an all you can eat chippies and ice cream buffet, and no-one minds if they run around screaming. Happy kids = happy parents generally, even if the food is terrible. Never pay full price, there's always a promo running in local newspapers. Avoid if possible, and don't even think of going there without children.

I have eaten hear and found the food OK, you do have to remember it is a buffet restaurant. And the some of the staff are uni students.

I am surprised at the bad reviews on here. I love going to marbles and find the staff very friendly. I even had my wedding here. The food was delicious fresh and yummy and everyone has said that it was the best meal they have had...it certainly has improved alot since a few years back..

wot a joke, its a old "has been" restaurant owned by our local "do gooder" mayor. Its old tired and shabby. The food is about the same. Uninteresting and cheap. And a bloody rip off. If we are ever invited to Marbles for an event, we always decline! The same old shabby staff work there that worked there 10 years ago. Ambitious ah?
Disappointed
When we first visited Marbles, we really enjoyed the food & went regularly. However we just recently ate there again & were very disappointed in the definite decline in quality. The oil they use smells awefull & was rather off-putting(I suspect that they have switched to animal or recycled fat).Other food was ok

One of the worst, most over-priced meals I've ever had! All just reheated bulk food, even the salads looked like they came out of a bag. I stayed at the hotel and thought it would be easy to just eat there, what a mistake! I couldn't get out of there fast enough. The manager of this restaurant should be ashamed of themselves for expecting people to pay for this!

They advertise asian stirfry, it comes out of a bag and is microwaved! Lamb chops as hard as a brick and the fat tasted rancid. Roast beef that was WAY beyond well done. Salads in a bag from the grocery store would have been a step up from what was served here.

Avoid this place at all costs!
