Review Gengy's Mongolian Bbq Buffet - New Plymouth

Update, just finished up from there, made a booking within 5 minutes and arrived at gengys. They had us sorted and closed just before we finished up but stayed open till we were done. Staff were friendly and kind to our kids. You guys are awesome.

Fun way to have dinner. choose your raw ingredients then have the chefs cook it in front of you at the hot plate. Salad bar was well stocked. Soup and bread rolls. Eat as much as you like. Also will make pancakes for dessert and have a help yourself to icecream and sauces. Yum!

Was truly an awesome experience. First time we went there and we will definitely go again. Great food options and the kids loved creating their own.

This was my first time there at the beginning we had a little misunderstanding by one of the ladies at the front was a young Korean, however the Men that were cooking and I'm assuming there was a Korean Boss,they redeemed them selves with the great service, respect and well presented we will definitely go back and thank you from me and my family,my No.1 eating place and the prices well worth it.

Awesum, specially watching the men doing the veges & meat( beef, lamb, chicken), pancakes were on a separate cooker. Thank you to the staff, definitely coming back🥰😍🤩👍

Probably the best place in New plymouth to eat caters for everyone and cooked in front of you.. one of my favourite restaurants

First time here at this one in New Plymouth and have to say it was delicious, clean and very well set out.. The staff were amazing how they work together and the food was yummy, especially chicken nibbles! Definitely book in advance though to get a table..

My favourite restaurant in New Plymouth. I love a good buffet. I really like being able to choose my own meet, vegetables etc and see it get cooked in front of me. Good selection of meats and precooked food. Desert area is below par though, only ice cream, toppings and pancakes. Overall 9/10

I've always loved this place,every time we go it's always yum and good service and I like the dine on ya birthday deal for $1.00 with 2 paying adults if it still applies

What an experience, a whole new way to eat your food with so many options for such a good price! We went on a Friday night, started off pretty quiet but quickly got busier after we had got our main meals! I would try to avoid this place if there are lots of children present as I was banged into at least 10 times whilst grabbing my food. <br/>Food 10/10 <br/>Service and atmosphere 4/10

was quite disappointed with my experience. I had dinner here with my partner and was seated very far from the food (next to the main door), although there were a lot of seats left. I told the waitress if we could be seated closer, but she rudely told me that they were all booked (clearly they weren't as the tables had no reservation signs). Food was not too great. Ive been to better ones in Epsom (auckland) and Rotorua.

Ok experience.lines were a bit long.the staff did not look happy or excited to cook your food.the novelty of making your own dishes wears off after the 2nd dish and I wish they would change up the condiments,it gets a bit boring.

good taste and warm service. you can make your own dishes with many choices. it s the best food I had during my two days trip in New Plymouth.

was rather dissapointed with the service tonight! we went early to avoid the crowds. firstly i asked the waiter if they have a house wine. she didnt know and just stood there and askedme what i would like to drink. how do you do that without a wine list? secondly asked lamb to be coocked medium rare..... it was well done and very tough. we also had to go to the counter to order drinks, why do they ask once and then just leave you. dont think ill go back. the service 3 months ago was great, today was very dissapointing.

When we arrived at Gengys, the restaurant was thriving. Two waitresses who greeted myself and my partner were lovely. Because we'd never dined there before one of them gave us the low down of how you make a meal. The service was great however not once did they come to our table to offer us any drinks, not even water. Other than that, great food!

Been to several in the group in Auckland for large work dos and have to say I wasn't expecting much (they are very tired locations up there).  NP was utterly different.<br/>The location is new and it looked great. Hope they keep it that way.  Great for large groups and the only one you can complain to if you don't like the taste is yourself lol.<br/>Lovely fresh veges and raw meat to mix and match with oils and sauces to then have it cooked in front of you in moments.  Great experience for kids to watch as well as adults.<br/>Basic tables/chairs, basic decor, but nicely done and comfortable.  Like that they have suggestions of combinations of food for certain tastes on the wall too.<br/>Great service by friendly people and handled the split bill extremely easily.<br/>One thing though - the top of the servery needs a daily wipedown - even if that means you need to re-write the names of the ingredients on it daily also, it was a little greasy which detracted from the fab fresh food.

Gengys is very reasonably priced for the delicious food on offer. Staff were exceptionally friendly. A great idea to have pancakes, syrups and ice-creams for dessert! Will be back - soon!

Yes! This place was amazing..!! <br/>The food was fresh and the freshly cooked pancakes and ice cream were a real treat.Best buffet place ive been so far, friendly staff, good environment, great experience, mean dinner.

We've eaten here once my husband loved it I thought it was good, quick &amp; value for money food. There wasn't much of an atmosphere going on and I wouldnt go here on a date but for a quick dine out meal when needed. A tip given to us towards the end of our dinner was to get the chefs to hold some sauce back and throw it on your food right before they serve it because the sauces/flavour often get cooked away from the grilling process.

We thought we'd try it...WOW! <br/>The best meal we've had after 11 years in NZ.<br/>A fantastic meal, it couldn't have been fresher and more delicious, cooked to your own taste, you create your own cooking sauce (helpful tips on the back board), and it's cooked immediately right in front of you.<br/>Freshly cooked pancakes to finish, with selection of ice creams and sauces.<br/>Staff were friendly and efficient, without being intrusive.<br/>Great price, very highly recommended.

I completely agree with the previous reviews, Delicious food at a reasonable price and a large selection to choose from.The staff were smiley and helpful and the place has an excellent ambiance. Could go there every night of the week!

I dined here with my husband and I'd just like to say that the service received was nothing short of stellar. Friendly, welcoming and helpful, the staff ensured that the experience was a great one.<br/>The food was good (of course I'd say that, I picked out all the flavours) and the pancakes and ice-cream were delicious! <br/>Pricewise, it was much cheaper than expected, so all in all, I believe it warrants a return visit :)

Our first time out to a restaurant with the kids (1y &amp; 3y). The staff were awesome and the food was divine. So many options to choose from and at an insanely reasonable price. I look forward to dining there again.
