Review Masala Craft - New Plymouth

Kat Smith
Got a takeaway but the restaurant actually looks nice 🙂. Food was delicious 😋. The first time that a curry actually had visible herbs and vegetables 😁. We'll be back soon. Garlic naan bread had fresh herbs and garlic. Chana masala (vegan) Chicken tikka masala Good size food portions.

The Kai was absolutely reka, lamb was tender and so flavourful. Everything that was served was perfect to order, and the Naan was literally the best I've had. 10/10

Food was absolutely bloody delicious! We ordered 2 butter chickens and we ordered them mild/medium mix and my lord the spice was spot on! The level hit so perfectly and the flavors where just unbelievably good. Hands down best butter chicken i have ever eaten.

Absolutely delicious food, no other way to put it. I have ordered to takeaway 4 times now, each time a different dish and every time has been exceptional - hands down the best Indian food I have experienced locally and probably ever come to think of it. The combination of fresh ingredients, quality, culinary talent and consistency have made this an easy recommendation and I go out of my way to tell people to try food from Dawat.

Wow, this place might just be my fav for Indian food in new Plymouth! We keep going back to try something new on the menu every time!! What a pleasant change from the old one and the atmosphere was good! Loving the upgrade not just in terms of interior but also the food quality! Would definitely recommend it!!

Everything taste delicious and yum. Really like the butter chicken especially, so creamy. I can see people coming in & out taking their takeaways throughout my dinner time. Keep up the good work, chefs!

Dawat is a great place for dining on the taste of India. There was plenty of meat and nice thick gravy. The restaurant was well appointed with freshly painted walls and new flooring. The pictures added Indians scenes. There were lots of takeaways being collected while we were there. Go and give it a try. Easy parking.

The food is amazing, well worth the 5 stars. The service is ok although the staff no very little English which can be frustrating

I have just had an amazing meal at Dawat. I had lamb seekh kebabs, onion rings, lamb Saagwala and garlic naan. Every dish was delicious, full of flavour and beautifully presented. Our host, Nane Vipan was welcoming, so friendly and lovely to chat to. I love the new decor which is comfortable and tasteful. I've eaten in many Indian restaurants around NZ and I rate Dawat above and beyond. Thank you for a wonderful meal with excellent service.

Please note this review is from when it was Masala Kitchen, it may have changed completely since the review. A fav location of ours for lunch! We rate this as 1st place butter chicken and cheese/garlic naan, and you get the combo with a can of drink for about $17 nzd which is actually awesome value compared to others.

We had a really lovely meal here. The food was tasty, and arrived promptly. The plates we were given were pre-warmed and the food itself was a good temperature. The dishes were nicely presented and the portions were generous.
The service was excellent and we would eat here again if we had the opportunity.

Went here for lunch today. Staff were friendly. Meal however was extremely bland. Essentially tastes like cream and onion with a tiny tiny dab of tomato. Naan was fluffy and thick....? Don't think I will be back again.

Took chicken Lababdar and garlic naan for takeaway. Curry was mild as I ordered but decadent and flavorful. The downside was the bread which was too thick at the edges and chewy.

So I'm new to Plymouth, (as most of you realize from my pune reviews) and I was wandering around Bell block when I stumbled upon Masla Craft. It had been over two week since I had Indian food, so I decided what the heck.
As you walk into the restaurant u are overwhelmed with the welcoming Aroma of Indian spices. The ambience too is pretty Indian, with red walls and a few Indian details.
I ordered for a tandoori chicken. I honestly feel one can judge an entire (Indian) restaurant based on solely their tandoori chicken. (Yesssss... I know that doesn't make sense to most of you.) The first question I asked the restaurant is if the chicken was really cooked in a (tandoor) clay oven with a coal fire. Unfortunately it is cooked in a gas grill, apparently New-Zealand safety laws make it really hard to have a fully functional tandoor in restaurants. I was asked if I would like my tandoori chicken medium or spicy. Unfortunately I opted for spicy (based upon the assumption that Indian food would be more subtle). In all honesty the tandoori chicken lacked a few automats and the chillie paste was over used. I still wouldn't want to be too quick to judge.
P.S: Update to this review coming soon once i try some more stuff.

Good tasty food which students of Pihms or people around bell block can try. Try the Chicken curry it is really nice. If u would like to try to have some Indian snacks they taste good too.
